This handbook is primarily a guide for inspectors on how to carry out inspections of maintained schools and academies under section 5 and section 8 of the Education Act 2005.
We also publish this for schools and other interested parties so that they are aware of Ofsted’s inspection processes and procedures under the education inspection framework ( EIF ) .

The Education Act 2005 (c 18) is an Act of the Parliament of the United Kingdom.It was enacted in order to simplify the process of school improvement, strengthening the accountability framework for schools, in particular by amending the approach used by Ofsted when inspecting schools in England.This Act repealed the provisions of the School Inspections Act 1996.
School inspection handbook. This handbook provides instructions and guidance for inspectors conducting inspections under section 5 of the Education Act 2005 (as amended).
