- Question & Answer
Sooraj Barjatya's Hum Saath Saath Hain is his follow-up to the immensely successful Hum Aapke Hain Kaun.
It reminds of Ramayana with modern values.
It gives clear message about how to deal with family problems and how to control ego and how to develop let-go feelings within family members.
We have preserved video just in case any dispute arise between family members, we will see the movie and get back normal unity.
Barjatya has pretty much all the same ingredients here as well.
The ensemble cast are all perfectly selected for their roles and have done a good job.
Most outstanding of all in the film would be Mohnish Behl.
Barjatya has once again written a very meticulous script with great timing by all the artists in bringing out Barjatya's vision from the paper to the screen.
The one area where HSSH lacks in is the music. Though not a bad score by any means, it needed a bit more melody and pleasantness to enhance the moods of the film better. Also, the energy that HAHK had somehow seems to be missing.
But to be fair to the film, Barjatya has once again presented a very sincere and heartfelt effort.
I like this film because it was a true family drama, and a dying genre, even in Hindi movies.
The family relationships are well portrayed and often very touching even though they can run to the ''too sugar sweet'' area sometimes.
But this is a very miner concern, because the bulk of the film has a great vibe and a great flow.
The story advances with all the songs, instead of detracting from it.
I think what a lot of people have forgotten to focus on is the social message conveyed in this movie.
This movie explores the dangers of letting people poison your mind, and how family relationships can be badly effected by one person's wrong decision.
The Mother in the story is made to feel insecure after the incident where the daughter's brother in law steals the family business from under them.
This incident propels her to look at her own family in a different light, and to heed the machinations of 3 very frivolous women, and a man who wants to see his daughter lead the good life at all costs.
The fact that they show us how well the family gets on before this incident shows us that regardless of how well you get on, such things can still happen to tear you apart.
But the touching thing about this story is how the brother's and sister's rally together to protect each other, and how the firm love and respect between them swings things back into place.
I loved this film.
All the actor's contributed to the film.
The characters they play are different, thus adding to the story in their own ways.
I also disagree with another comments on mouthshut that if you like this film you would not like films like ''Astitva'' and ''Chandani Bar''.
I beg to differ.
I liked those films very much.
You don't have to be stuck in one genre, and it's better to be able to appreciate many genre's instead of just one.
Rajshri Productions deliver another good family movie.
I am glad the public rewarded them by making this movie a hit atlthough not as big a hit as Hum Aapke Hain Kaun.
Sooraj Barjatya shows how to make an entertaining movie that is void of sex and violence seen in most of today's Bollywood movies.
The music by Raam Laaxman is pretty good, specially 'Maare hibda.
The lyrics of 'Yeh to sach hai.' show how much thought has went behind making this movie.
I just got the DVD which includes a bonus 'Making of Hum Saath Saath Hai disc.
If only other directors went to such pains to make a good family entertainer.
Rajshri Production have always focused on making good clean movies that remark on a social issue.
This movie does the same, by showing the importance of a joint family.
In today's Bollywood, no one is willing to take a moral stand on a social issue.
We hear the same excuse, 'We are here to entertain, not preach.'
However, don't they realize that media has a big hand in moulding a society.
With so many movies bombarding the Indian public with Western culture I wont' be surprised if a Rajshri Production movie will be considered 'old fashioned' in the next decade.
Hats off for such a daring movie.

9 Reasons Why Super-Hit Movie ‘Hum Saath Saath Hain’ Is The Most Regressive Movie Ever
Bollywood has always undermined its power to bring social change through its movies. Its obsession with the regressive thought process is one of the reasons why our society still takes pride in following regressive beliefs. It’s sad how our movies promote regressive beliefs in the name of sanskaars and family values. And, a very apt example of such a horrific representation of sanskaar is the movie – Hum Saath Saath Hain.
Hum Saath Saath Hain, Sooraj Barjatya’s family drama ruled the roost for more than two decades now. The movie starred Salman Khan, Saif Ali Khan, Mohnish Bahl, Karisma Kapoor, Tabu, and Sonali Bendre in pivotal roles. And, how can we forget Alok Nath and Reema Lagoo for playing the universal parents in most Rajshri films?
While many thought Hum Saath Saath Hain was a quick lesson in family values and sanskaar, here are the reasons that show how this movie was the not-at-all needed lesson in patriarchy, stupidity and regressive thoughts!
1. The ultimate goal for the ghar ki bahus was just to cook and serve the entire family with their own hands.
4. This movie forgot that women have demands other than feeding families. Do you remember Priti! Despite being a doctor and having a degree, she was always seen serving the family. Not a single day was she shown doing what her profession demands. Because who cares?
5. One thing that Priti was expected to do was to shy and blush every time Prem’s name is mentioned. Because that’s what good girls are expected to do! Isn’t it?
7. It’s weird how the whole family refuse to give the newlyweds any space, making our nosy Indian families feel its okay to not give space to the married couples.

Vibe of 25: HT City turns 25 with Hum Saath Saath Hain: How is the film still relevant? Actors share
As the classic film hum saath saath hain turns 25 with ht city, we talk to the star cast about how the film is still relevant after so many years..
As the timeless classic Hum Saath Saath Hain celebrates its silver jubilee, actors reflect on the enduring relevance of this cinematic masterpiece. A quarter-century since its release, the film continues to captivate audiences with its themes of family bonds, love, and traditions. Coinciding with the 25th anniversary of HT City, the star cast delve into the significance of this milestone, highlighting the enduring impact of the film.
1. Satish Shah
Whenever a film completes a 25 year old milestone, it makes me aware of how old I have got. Rajshri production films in those times were always like a family get together. There was always a keen effort to listen to Sooraj Barjatya and be disciplined. When I heard the script, I had a feeling that this film is going to be another Mother India. The main ingredient in Hum Saath Saath Hain was that we could sit with the family and watch it. And even for today’s generation, this stays the same and people hope that it will inculcate some culture in the youngsters, which they feel is lacking now. Congratulations to HT City for completing 25 years and many many more anniversaries to come.
2. Mahesh Thakur
The ring scene when we put on each other’s palm wasn’t there in the script earlier. It was added while shooting and it was a good moment as all of us really got together to make the scene the best we could. I think it’s still relevant because it’s about the unity of a family and how family comes first. Our culture is based on family and this movie signifies the same, that’s what people like to see. I feel wonderful that it has been 25 years, feels like yesterday. 25 years is a huge milestone. I would love HT City to grow in character and the way they do things. I’ve been reading it since the time it started and you make reading pleasurable. Congratulations!
3. Mohnish Bahl
Coming back together as a family after two successful films - Maine Pyaar Kiya and Hum Aapke Hain Kaun was emotional. If you look at the subject and the story, it is all about human emotions. How you live in a joint family when there are misunderstandings, nothing is perfect. Even today, every family functions like that so it is very identifiable, which makes it relevant even 25 years later. Everybody knows somebody in the family is one of the characters that you saw on screen. 25 years is making me feel old! It’s an acknowledgement of the effort put in by a group of people and feels wonderful to be appreciated for it. HT City turning 25 along with Hum Saath Saath Hain is like a wonderful double celebration, congratulations to you too!
4. Himani Shivpuri
The film is very relevant and talked about even after 25 years. You watch them so many times and each time it is so fresh. Each scene is so nuanced and you can relate to it because it has Indian values. It propagates the aim of families coming together. Family is very important to us and it holds so much importance. It was wonderful working in that film. I would like to congratulate HT City and wish them all the best. They are a young 25. I have had very beautiful memories of HT City, used to wake up and read the paper while sipping tea, like a morning ritual. I am so happy that HT City has turned 25, I wish them best of luck!
5. Neelam Kothari
Our parents have had the this mindset of a perfect joint family scenario where everyone is mostly happy, with some people who try to spoil it, so Hum Saath Saath Hain was very relatable. Touching upon our Indian sentiment and culture made it so relevant for everyone, even after 25 years it is remembered so much. It has got everything - family values, tradition, and also romance. Its amazing that it has been 25 years, tells you how time flies. I feel like we shot for it couple of years back, it is a big milestone! Even youngsters recognise me because of this film. Congratulations to HT City, 25 years is a very long time even though time flies. You are one of the leading publications and you guys have done a splendid job. Big congratulations!

20 Reasons Why I Think ‘Hum Saath Saath Hain’ Was An Absolute Disaster
Specialty: Entertainment
Full-time writer, part-time cribber. Sucker for good pictures. My motto in life is to finish eating all the seafood in the world.
No matter how much you dislike it, you can’t escape it on a weekend afternoon, when you decide to stay home.
You switch on your TV, swipe channels and all you see is Sooraj Barjatya ruling the roost with his two-decade old Hum Saath Saath Hain family drama starring Salman Khan, Saif Ali Khan, Mohnish Bahl, Karisma Kapoor, Tabu, and Sonali Bendre in pivotal roles. Oh! Alok Nath and Reema Lagoo need a special mention for playing the universal parents in most Rajshri films. I watched it too, some two weeks back, only to realise that families as such don’t really exist in the real world.
1. A foreign return bahu opts for a honeymoon in Rampur, with the entire family. All this to please her devar and make him meet his love interest. Really?
2. A family that’s ALWAYS over-excited for ANY and EVERY occasion.
3. The movie seemed to be a never-ending saga of weddings. Not one, but three.
4. Remember the song, ‘Pehle dulhan tum inn se milo ji’? Who introduces the newly wed bride to the entire family through a skit? *Eye rolls* What an amazing family introduction song! Slow claps!
5. Where the ultimate goal for the ghar ki bahus is to cook and feed the entire family with their own hands.
6. The ultimate song anthem for the perfect parivarik film, ‘A B C D E F G H I J K L M….. I LOVE YOU! Tum bhi kaho…’ Kill me now!
7. Despite being a doctor and having a degree, Priti was always seen serving the family. Not a single day was she spotted doing what her profession demands, because who cares?
8. Oh! Of course, the ultimate goal for a woman in a Barjatya movie is to find her sapno ka rajkumar and get married only to play an adarsh bahu .
9. Reema Lagoo didn’t really fit in to be the vamp who is given the charge to fuck everyone’s happiness by telling her step son to leave the house. Reema is at her best when she plays the ideal and loving mother.
10. With all due respect to every parent out there, ‘Yeh Toh Sach Hai Ki Bhagwan Hai’ is perhaps the most cringey song I have ever heard. No offence but it’s a fact!
11. Oh! The three powerpuff girls need a special mention to keep the spice going .
12. You aren’t sanskari enough if you don’t start your day praying with your mom and dad. Just saying!
13. How conveniently the eldest and the youngest brother are stereotyped to be the introvert and extrovert respectively.
14. Overacting ki dukaan sab ke sab! Argh!
15. Just like Rahul is SRK’s patent name, Prem is for Salman.
16. Every time Prem is mentioned amazingly the camera shifts to Priti, where all she has to do is feel shy and blush!
17. And then imagine Salman Khan blushing. Seriously?
18. I wonder how Sadhna beti (Tabu) got pregnant, because they never had any privacy and were always surrounded with hyperactive minions.
19. Does a family so perfect really exist in real life? Clearly, NOT!
20. Lastly, if you don’t share the same rapport and bond with your family this movie is sure to make you feel guilty.
