ICFAI University, Dehradun offers doctoral program in the following disciplines:

The Ph.D. Program in Management is designed for candidates interested in teaching and research. The program fosters their academic and research interest in their respective areas. This helps the students, experienced executives and faculty members to develop quality skills teaching, research and consultancy.

• Ph.D. programme shall be for a minimum duration of three years including course work, and a maximum of six years.

Eligibility:

A 1-year/2-semester master’s degree programme after a 4-year/8-semester bachelor’s degree programme or a 2-year/4-semester master’s degree programme after a 3-year bachelor’s degree programme or qualifications declared equivalent to the master’s degree by the corresponding statutory regulatory body, with at least 55% marks in aggregate or its equivalent grade in a point scale wherever grading system is followed. OR A M.Phil. degree from any recognized university with at least 55% marks in aggregate or an equivalent grade in a point scale wherever grading system is followed. OR A 4-year/8-semester bachelor’s degree programme with at least 75% marks in aggregate or its equivalent grade on a point scale wherever the grading system is followed.

Award of Degree:

Students who successfully complete the program are awarded Doctor of Philosophy Degree by The ICFAI University, Dehradun subject to fulfillment of University regulations.

Publication Requirement:

Every student should publish at least two research papers in peer reviewed journals his/her area of doctoral research in a refereed journal before submission of the Thesis and produce evidence of the same in the form of acceptance letter or the reprint which is to be appended.

Submission of the Ph.D. Thesis and Evaluation:

After submission of the Ph.D. Thesis in the prescribed format, it will be evaluated by a panel of examiners. If all the panel is satisfied with the thesis work, Viva-Voce examination will be conducted and the student’s performance is graded accordingly.

Program Structure for Ph.D. Program:

Program structure for the Ph.D. program is divided into the following three phases:

Phase-I: Course Work

The objective of the coursework is to equip the student with the latest developments in the relevant disciplines, including the tools of research and the latest software. In the first semester, students will take the following four (4) courses:

Phase II - Preparation and Defense of Thesis Proposal

Phase III - Thesis Preparation, Pre-Ph.D. Seminar and Thesis Submission

Uttaranchal University is committed for creating excellence through research in various field of Law, Engineering, Applied Sciences, Life Science, Health sciences, Agricultural sciences, Management and Humanities. Full time (regular) and part-time Ph.D. programs are offered as per guidelines of UGC. Minimum duration is 3 years for full time doctoral program and 3 years and 6 months for part-time. We are promoting multidisciplinary in our Doctoral research & studies.

Candidates for perusing Ph.D. are selected through research entrance test (UURET), which is conducted twice in a year. Generally, test is conducted in the month of January (winter batch) and June (summer batch) every year. UURET consists of written exam followed by interview. Entrance exam consist of 50 MCQs of research methodology/research aptitude and 50 questions from discipline /subject. 50% overall marks are required in entrance exam to appear in interview. Net/GATE qualified candidates are exempted from entrance exam. Passing of Pre-PhD course work is compulsory in their research. Every candidate has to publish minimum 2 papers in scopus indexed journals and 2 paper presentation in seminar/conferences for thesis submission. External thesis viva is conducted within 3 months of submission.

Eligibility

An applicant possessing any one of the following qualifications shall be eligible to apply for admission to a Ph.D. program of the University.

• A 2-year/4-semester master’s degree or equivalent in the concerned or allied subject with at least 55% marks in aggregate or its equivalent grade in a point scale wherever grading system is followed. Or
• A 1-year/2-semester master’s degree or equivalent in the concerned or allied subject with at least 55% marks in aggregate or its equivalent grade in a point scale wherever grading system is followed after a 4-year/8-semester bachelor’s degree Program. Or
• 4-year/8-semester bachelor’s degree or equivalent in the concerned or allied subject with a minimum of 75% marks in aggregate or its equivalent grade on a point scale. or
• M.Phil. degree with at least 55% marks in aggregate or its equivalent grade in a point scale wherever grading system is followed.
• A relaxation of 5% marks or its equivalent grade may be allowed for those belonging to SC/ST/OBC (non-creamy layer)/Differently-Abled.
• Exemption from appearing at Entrance Examination: Candidates who have qualified UGC-NET, CSIR-NET or GATE with fellowship only are exempted from entrance exam UUEE. Such candidates will have to appear in an interview only.

Program Duration:

• Full Time: 3 Years (Minimum)
• Part Time: 3 Years 6 Months (Minimum)
• Candidates working in any organization can apply for a part-time Ph.D. The candidate will have to submit NOC from the employer. Duration for Ph.D. for part-time will be 3 and half years including course work. Generally, course work duration for part time Ph.D. is for one year.
• In case the Scholar in unable to submit his/her thesis within the prescribed time frame and his/her research is extended then, he/she will pay for each extended semester as per his/her mode.

Admission Procedure:

• All the applicants shall have to appear for Uttaranchal University Entrance Examination (UUEE). The validity of the UUEE shall be for one year. Candidates may be provisionally enrolled if they are selected through the UUEE entrance test followed by an interview by a sub-committee comprising at least 5 members of the RDC as constituted by the Vice-Chancellor. The registration shall only be confirmed after satisfactory completion of the course work and approval of the research plan/synopsis on the basis of the presentation given by the candidate before the RDC.
• Students who have qualified UGC-NET (including JRF)/UGC-CSIR NET (including JRF)/SLET/GATE/teacher fellowship holder will be exempted from Entrance Examination only. Program through valid entrance examination will be exempted from UUEE. Such students have to appear in the interview before a sub-committee comprising at least 5 members of the RDC as constituted by the Vice-Chancellor.
• Candidates shall be provisionally enrolled if they are selected through the UUEE entrance test followed by an interview by a sub-committee comprising at least 5 members of the RDC as constituted by the Vice-Chancellor. The registration of such provisionally enrolled candidates shall only be confirmed after satisfactory completion of the course work and approval of the research plan/synopsis on the basis of its presentation before the RDC.
• University shall decide on year-to-year basis the number of Ph.D. scholars to be admitted program/faculty-wise depending on the number of available Research Supervisors and other academic and physical facilities available, the norms regarding the scholar- teacher ratio, laboratory, library and such other facilities. University will notify the number of seats for admission, subject/discipline-wise distribution of available seats, criteria for admission, procedure for admission, examination centre(s) where entrance test(s) shall be conducted and all other relevant information well in advance for the benefit information of the candidates/other stakeholders/public at large.
• University will follow the reservation policy of the Central Government/Uttarakhand State Government for admission in Ph.D. program in place and formulated from time to time.

University shall admit candidates by a two-stage process, through:

• An Entrance Test with qualifying marks as 50%. The syllabus of the Entrance Test shall consist of 50% of research methodology and 50% of research aptitude (subject specific). The Entrance Test shall be conducted at the Centre(s) notified in advance (changes of Centres, if any, shall also be notified well in advance).
• An interview/viva-voce to be organized by the University where the candidates are required to discuss their research interest/area through a presentation before a duly constituted RDC.

The interview/viva-voce shall also consider the following aspects, viz. whether:

• His/her qualification is at par with the qualification stipulated by MHRD or any nodal/statutory body of the country for Ph.D. program.
• The candidate possesses the competence for the proposed research.
• The research work can be suitably undertaken at the University.
• The proposed area of research can contribute to new/additional knowledge.
• The Research Scholars shall be registered under the category of Full-Time/Part-Time/Sponsored Research Scholars.
• The University shall maintain the list of all the Ph.D. registered students on its website on year-wise. The list shall include the name of the registered candidate, topic of his/her research, name of his/her supervisor/co-supervisor, date of enrolment/registration.
• All the supporting documents are subject to verification by the competent authority before confirming admission in the Ph.D. program. In the absence of any requisite documents, a candidate will be granted provisional admission in the Ph.D. Program, which is subjected to cancellation, if not found fit at a later stage. Under this type of case, the fee submitted by the candidate shall stand forfeited.

Applications of Foreign Nationals can also be considered for registration as Research Scholar(s) provided:

• The candidate shall be required to apply for admission to the Ph.D. Program of the University on a prescribed proforma along with the prescribed application fee as given in the regulations.
• They shall also attach to the application attested copies of required certificates and Synopsis in English along with a copy of Passport.
• Entrance Examination will be normally conducted twice a year and two admission cycles consecutively.
• The application of Foreign Nationals shall be accepted on the basis of their synopsis submitted with the application form. If the synopsis is not found suitable by the RDC, the application shall be liable to be rejected.
• Candidate shall be interviewed by the concerned Sub-Committee, comprising of at least 5 members to be chosen from the RDC, constituted by the Vice-Chancellor and their registration shall be confirmed after satisfactory completion of the prescribed course work and approval of research plan/synopsis on the basis of his/her presentation before the respective RDC.
• All Foreign Nationals admitted to the Ph.D. Program shall also have to complete the coursework offered by the University.

Note: All the supporting documents are subject to verification by the competent authority before confirming admission in the Ph.D. program. In the absence of any requisite documents, a candidate will be granted provisional admission in the Ph.D. Program, which is subjected to cancellation, if not found fit at a later stage. Under this type of case, the fee submitted by the candidate shall stand forfeited.

Forest Research Institute (FRI), Dehra Dun made a humble beginning as Forest School established in 1878. Initially named as Imperial Forest Research Institute, FRI came into being in 1906. Carefully review your application and your credentials and then submit the application form

Complete Application Fee Payment

Once your form is successfully submitted, complete the application fee payment (₹ 1500 for all courses)

Finalize Admission by Paying the Course Fee

The final course fee can be paid once Step 5 is completed by choosing the appropriate payment mode. The final/provisional allotment letter will be provided digitally along with other course commencement information.

Applicants can apply online by filling up the Application Form and make payment towards online Registration charges by using Credit/Debit Card (Visa/Master Card/Citibank Card) or Internet banking option using secure internet payment gateway. Applicants applying online should attach their scanned color photograph along with the Online Application. The Prospectus will be sent to such applicants.

FRI Dehradun PhD Admission 2024 (Jan) Important Dates

Eligibility criteria for fri dehradun phd admission 2024 (jan).

Application invited from only UGC-NET/UGC- CSIR NET/GATE/CEED and similar National level tests qualified candidates having fellowship.

• A 1-year/2-semester master’s degree programme after a 4-year/8 semester bachelor’s degree programme or a 2- year/4- semester master’s degree programme after a 3-year bachelor’s degree programme or qualifications declared equivalent to the master’s degree by the corresponding statutory regulatory body, with at least 55% marks in aggregate or its equivalent grade in a point scale wherever grading system is followed or equivalent qualification from a foreign educational institution accredited by an assessment and accreditation agency which is approved, recognized or authorized by an authority, established or incorporated under a law in its home country or any other statutory authority in that country to assess, accredit or assure quality and standards of the educational institution.
• A relaxation of 5% marks or its equivalent grade may be allowed for those belonging to SC/ST/OBC (non-creamy layer)/Differently-Abled, Economically Weaker Section (EWS)and other categories of candidates as per the decision of the Commission from time to time.
• Provided that a candidate seeking admission after a 4-year/8-semester bachelor’s degree programme should have a minimum of 75% marks in aggregate or its equivalent grade on a point scale wherever the grading system is followed. A relaxation of 5% marks or its equivalent grade may be allowed for those belonging to SC/ST/OBC (noncreamy layer)/Differently-Abled, Economically Weaker Section (EWS) and other categories of candidates as per the decision ofthe Commission from time to time.
• Candidates who have completed the M.Phil. programme with at least 55% marks in aggregate or its equivalent grade in a point scale wherever grading system is followed or equivalent qualification from a foreign educational institution accredited by an assessment and accreditation agency which is approved, recognized or authorized by an authority, established or incorporated under a law in its home country or any other statutory authority in that country to assess, accredit or assure quality and standards of educational institutions, shall be eligible for admission to the Ph.D. programme. A relaxation of 5% marks or its equivalent grade may be allowed for those belonging to SC/ST/OBC (non-creamy layer)/Differently-Abled, Economically Weaker Section (EWS) and other categories of candidates as per the decision of the Commission from time to time.

Discipline Wise Qualification

Fri dehradun phd admission 2024 (jan) application process.

• The candidates, who are interested for registration as research scholar for the Ph.D. Degree in Forestry in Forest Research Institute Deemed to be University Dehradun for the term of March 2024 are advised to apply in prescribed form latest by 10.12.2023 with a fee of Rs.1500/- through Bank Draft in favour of Registrar, FRI Deemed to be University payable at Dehradun. No application form will be entertained after the prescribed date.
• Application Fee : Rs.1500/-

Selection Procedure

• Final Merit List of selected candidates will be prepared as per merit on the basis of marks obtained in UGC-NET/UGC-CSIR NET/GATE/CEED and similar National level tests and in interview applying reservation policy, provided that for selection of candidates, a weightage of 70% to the UGC-NET/UGC-CSIR NET/GATE/CEED and similar National level tests score (The shall have to provide score-card of the marks obtained in the exam, percentile score shall not be considered) and 30% to the performance in the interview/viva-voce shall be given.

FRI Dehradun PhD Entrance Details

• The syllabus of the Entrance Test shall consist of 50% of research methodology and 50% shall be subject specific.
• The Entrance Test shall be conducted at the Centre(s) notified in advance (changes of Test Centres, if any, also to be notified well in advance) at the level of the University.
• Students who have secured 50 % marks in the entrance test are eligible to be called for the interview. A relaxation of 5% marks will be allowed in the entrance examination for the candidates belonging to SC/ST/OBC/differently-abled category, Economically Weaker Section (EWS), and other categories of candidates as per the decision of the Commission from time to time.
• The candidate must apply through the Research Centre where he/she want to carry out his/her research work. The applicant will be considered only for the centre concerned through which the application has been forwarded. In exceptional cases, the Director FRI may consider the change of research centre subject to availability of the vacancy.
• The candidates securing minimum 30% and above marks in Section-B will only be considered for qualifying Entrance Test.

Exam Pattern

The duration of Ph.D. Entrance Test shall be of 2.30 hours.

• Each multiple choice question contains 1 number and there shall be no negative marking

The question paper will have following sections and their proportional weightage shall be as follows:

• Research Methodology – 100 questions
• General Forestry: 40 questions
• Subject/discipline specific (as per the discipline applied for) : 60 questions

• The admission to the PhD Programme shall be on the basis of Entrance Test followed by an Interview of the qualified candidates in the entrance test.
• The candidates who have qualified UGC-NET (including JRF)/UGC-CSIR NET (including JRF)/teacher fellowship holder will be allowed to appear for the interview directly without appearing in the written entrance test.
• However, the candidates who have qualified GATE will also be allowed to appear for the interview directly without appearing in the written entrance test subject to securing of 50 normalized marks (out of 100) in case of General candidates and 45 normalized marks (out of 100) in case of SC/ST/OBC (non-creamy layer)/differently abled and other categories of candidates as per the decision of the Commission from time to time, failing which they shall have to appear in the Entrance Test. However, such candidates will have to apply as per the procedure along with other candidates. They will have to provide marks-sheet of above exams along with their application form.
• The UGC/CSIR/GATE/NET exam should have been cleared by the applicant during previous two years from the last date of submission of the form in the University.
• Provided that for selection of candidates, a weightage of 70% to the NET/GATE score and 30% to the performance in the interview/viva-voce shall be given.
• However, the NET/GATE qualified candidates may also appear in Entrance Test conducted by FRIDU if desire. In that case, the highest score shall be considered.
