great read 🙂

i loved them, especially the predictions were hillarious.

i think the best by far was stephan hawking’s one about viruses… really gets you thinking…

Finally a collection of good quotes. I’ve stumbled upon a few bad ones.

These and other prediction quotes have helped me to never try and predict the future of computing. It’ll come back to haunt you. =P

A great list. Perhaps even a little better than the one published previously.

Some of the stuff mentioned really hits the nail quite well in just a few words/sentences.

Wasn’t #53 Alan Kay, and not DHH?

Hi Rob, Yes, when I was translating the article, I thought #53 was Alan Kay too. But apparently David Hannson is credited with saying it on many of the quote sites, so I’m not sure who was first.

Thanks for a great list! I collect quotes related to tech, design and writing — and it’s hard to find a lot in one place. Thank you again!

This is one of my favorite computer quotes. I can’t figure out why it never got a lot of circulation, especially among Mac users.

“I’m rather an authority on gods, so I identified the god [in the IBM PC], and it seems to be an Old Testament God with a lot of rules and no mercy!”

Good compilation of quotes, I can’t believe I read them all. I can’t believe Bill was so wrong so many times.

59 “The difference between theory and practice is that in theory, there is no difference between theory and practice.” – Richard Moore

Stolen from Yogi Berra: “In theory there is no difference between theory and practice. In practice there is.”

These are some great gems among the list of quotes you have collected here. A lot of them will transcend time as we progress further in the computer and internet age.

Was excited to come across a lot of computer quotes, but i discovered the one on virus quoted by Bill Gates and John McAfee has not come to pass . We need urgent solution, maybe you guys are been too slow to find a lasting solution. “Two years from now, spam will be solved.” – Bill Gates, 2004

“The problem of viruses is temporary and will be solved in two years.” – John McAfee, 1988

What about my favorite: “oh ****! How do I fix this??” lol

By far the best quote is “There is only one problem with common sense; it’s not very common.” This is so true.

Love the list

Are you kidding me? Alan Kay first said that quote (#53, though with “invent” instead of “implement”) 8 years before DHH was even born. I request, no, I demand, you correct it: http://en.wikiquote.org/wiki/Alan_Kay

Luv this one

“Software is a gas; it expands to fill its container.” – Nathan Myhrvold

“The best way to predict the future is to implement it.” That is the spirit that has made computers and the internet what it is today.

Love all the quotes. This one of the best compilations I’ve ever read.

21.“Computers are good at following instructions, but not at reading your mind.”

My customers need to read this! ha…

I love this:

Hoaxes use weaknesses in human behavior to ensure they are replicated and distributed. In other words, hoaxes prey on the Human Operating System.”

I think I’ll get it printed on a t-shirt 🙂

Yeah, i got one, tho i dont know under which category. Anyhow:

“in a room where people think similar – not much thinking is done…” =))

I think it’s about time this page got an update. Surely there have been more crazy quotes over the last 2 years 🙂

Joke: McAfee-Question: Is Windows a virus?

No, Windows is not a virus. Here’s what viruses do:

1. They replicate quickly – okay, Windows does that. 2. Viruses use up valuable system resources, slowing down the system as they do so – okay, Windows does that. 3. Viruses will, from time to time, trash your hard disk – okay, Windows does that too. 4. Viruses are usually carried, unknown to the user, along with valuable programs and systems. Sigh… Windows does that, too. 5. Viruses will occasionally make the user suspect their system is too slow (see 2.) and the user will buy new hardware. Yup, that’s with Windows, too.

Until now it seems Windows is a virus but there are fundamental differences: Viruses are well supported by their authors, are running on most systems, their program code is fast, compact and efficient and they tend to become more sophisticated as they mature. So Windows is not a virus. It’s a bug.

Windows Operating System – Does this class as an oxymoron?

Im with you John, How about some quotes around the ipad, surely steve would have some more

I wish the medical profession was as creative. All I can find are t-shirts that ask if you have pooped today 🙂

I laughed at this!:

“It’s hardware that makes a machine fast. It’s software that makes a fast machine slow.” – Craig Bruce

That’s true. haha.. ^^

I like #63 and I wonder how many “accidents” people have turned to gold?

I like this one: “Passwords are like underwear: you don’t let people see it, you should change it very often, and you shouldn’t share it with strangers.” Funny and true:)

I like: “Imagination is more important than knowledge. For knowledge is limited, whereas imagination embraces the entire world, stimulating progress, giving birth to evolution.” Very inspiring!

I like : “UNIX is simple. It just takes a genius to understand its simplicity.” – Dennis Ritchie

My favorite is “Getting information off the Internet is like taking a drink from a fire hydrant.” – Mitchell Kapor

alot of great quotes there, my favorite ones are ““The greatest enemy of knowledge is not ignorance, it is the illusion of knowledge.” and the one that Dzeny mentioned ““in a room where people think similar – not much thinking is done”

the similarities between humans and computers are more numerous than differences

Information Technology Quotes

Standart top banner.

computer essay quotations

Information technology has brought people much closer together than ever before, providing a democratizing and mostly stabilizing influence.

Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic.

Technology is just a tool. In terms of getting the kids working together and motivating them, the teacher is the most important.

It has become appallingly obvious that our technology has exceeded our humanity.

The real danger is not that computers will begin to think like men, but that men will begin to think like computers.

Information technology has been one of the leading drivers of globalization, and it may also become one of its major victims.

Information technology and business are becoming inextricably interwoven. I don't think anybody can talk meaningfully about one without the talking about the other.

To me technology used wisely is a catalyst to magically transforming the way we live.

Technology transforms people's lives. From mitigating poverty to simplifying processes, ending corruption to providing better services, Technology is omnipresent. It has become the single-most important instrument of human progress.

Technology is central to Development. It touches one and all, and is an important instrument of our national progress.

Technology is so much fun but we can drown in our technology. The fog of information can drive out knowledge.

Technology is nothing. What's important is that you have a faith in people, that they're basically good and smart, and if you give them tools, they'll do wonderful things with them.

What you earn depends on what you learn.

What lies at the heart of every living thing is not a fire, not warm breath, not a 'spark of life.' It is information, words, instructions... If you want to understand life, don't think about vibrant, throbbing gels and oozes, think about information technology.

Information technology has politicized the world's population.

The new information technology... Internet and e-mail... have practically eliminated the physical costs of communications.

The two areas that are changing... are information technology and medical technology. Those are the things that the world will be very different 20 years from now than it is today.

As information technology restructures the work situation, it abstracts thought from action.

One of the biggest challenges to medicine is the incorporation of information technology in our practices.

The first rule of any technology used in a business is that automation applied to an efficient operation will magnify the efficiency. The second is that automation applied to an inefficient operation will magnify the inefficiency.

Getting information off the Internet is like taking a drink from a fire hydrant.

Once a new technology rolls over you, if you're not part of the steamroller, you're part of the road.

Technology empowers the less empowered. If there is a strong force that bring a change in the lives of those on the margins it is technology. It serves as a leveler and a springboard.

Today, no one would dispute that information technology has become the backbone of commerce. It underpins the operations of individual companies, ties together far-flung supply chains, and, increasingly, links businesses to the customers they serve. Hardly a dollar or a euro changes hands anymore without the aid of computer systems.

Secrets of Effective Digital Marketing for Small Firms

' data-src=

There is much to be said about the range of advertising activities directly linked to digitalization, digital transformation, automation, and so on.

However, knowing the secrets of online marketing can provide a chance to achieve high success in the online space by utilizing relevant channels, tools, and technologies.

This is not about the conventional promotion methods that have become obsolete. Today, marketing plans and schemes that are effective in practice are very popular. It’s definitely time to forget about old approaches such as television, SMS mailing, newspapers, and magazines.

To finally ensure the promotion of a small enterprise, firm, or organization on the web at a decent level, it is time to take advantage of services from a  Buffalo SEO company , which will be indispensable. The essence is that every brand dreams of achieving high positions and rankings in search engines.

This is a completely normal and acceptable phenomenon that opens up a multitude of prospects (increasing conversion rates, reach, audience, traffic, and other digital growth indicators).

But to achieve them, it is important to engage in a competent advertising and SEO campaign and to use some “tricks” and secrets.

What are the key nuances of using digital marketing that are important to know?

Today’s reality demonstrates that it is impossible to succeed without the implementation of various up-to-date and modern online channels, the use of different strategic plans, and other technologies.

Moreover, it is crucial to integrate all these elements into a unified concept for global effectiveness. The secrets that can help a brand become a top leader in the modern market include the following:

  • digital channels, targeting, and “tricks” from e-commerce can significantly personalize customer acquisition and advertising strategies;
  • time-saving – a resource that is almost impossible to recover, and saving money, which is important to spend rationally on advertising campaigns;
  • configuring only those tools that allow a quick and seamless entry into the online sphere and help respond swiftly to market changes;
  • utilizing various functions, options, trends, methods, and tactics that contribute to the primary goal of every small business – increasing profit, and so on.

Regardless of how work in the field of Internet marketing begins, brands should ensure they create a platform where they can describe products or services, offer them for purchase, and provide various payment options.

Additionally, they should ensure the navigation on the web resource is as convenient and intuitive as possible, and that the website is accessible not only from laptops or computers but also from other devices, including portable ones (tablets, mobile phones, smartphones, etc.).

What additional secrets should small businesses keep in mind for reaching the top?

The digital world is constantly changing and updating. This means that brands need to optimize their web content for popular search engines. Both contextual advertising and texts, articles, descriptions, and posts should be rational, adequate, informative, and useful.

Service descriptions with calls to action may be the best option to encourage customers to purchase a product or order a service and pay for it immediately using the selected method on the site.

When a website has everything users might need at hand, both literally and figuratively, they are less likely to turn to competitors. Additional secrets that should be considered include:

  • developing a strategic marketing plan that outlines all steps and specific stages of optimization and promotion;
  • implementing SEO solutions that are relevant today and help with the perception of online robots’ algorithms during promotion;
  • allocating a budget for launching, setting up, and publishing advertising campaigns, which include not only targeting but also contextual advertising;
  • creating and developing your own community on web platforms and social networks where your potential audience is predominant;
  • interacting with well-known personalities who can become role models for the target audience;
  • utilizing advertising campaigns in mobile web applications, where competition is currently very low;
  • implementing online services that automate various processes, including providing online answers to frequently asked voice message questions;
  • using additional “features” by adding various relevant functions and options to the site, as well as services, including free ones, to make purchasing products and ordering services as convenient as possible, and so on.

Setting primary goals for the future will help small firms, organizations, and enterprises stay afloat for as long as possible. The decision to use digital marketing in their strategies is fully justified because it really works.

The Many Uses for Binoculars

computer essay quotations

Binoculars are an incredibly practical and versatile tool that can be used in a variety of settings. From birdwatching to stargazing, binoculars offer the user a unique perspective on their environment. They also have many practical uses such as hunting, surveillance, sports events, and emergency response teams. With binoculars you can see far distances with clarity and detail – all you need is two lenses.

Whether for recreational or professional purposes, the uses for binoculars are many, as they provide their users with a clear view of surroundings from potentially great distances. In this article, we will discuss some of the many uses for binoculars so that you can get the most out of your investment.

For Birdwatchers

Binoculars can be used to observe animals in their natural habitats. The advantage of using binoculars in this kind of environment is that they provide an unobtrusive way to watch birds and other wildlife without disturbing them. This allows those who bird watch to observe behaviors and identify species from a safe distance.

For Stargazers

A pair of binoculars allows viewers to observe stars and planets in the night sky with a clear view. Stargazers can use binoculars to spot constellations, galaxies, and even asteroids. You do not necessarily need to have a top-of-the-range telescope to enjoy this hobby in an amateur way. There is much to see and admire about the night sky.

If there is a galaxy far away we will, of course, not see it with a pair of binoculars but there are lots of other astrological things to be identified to start your hobby affordably.

For Hunting and Outdoor Activities

Hunters will commonly use binoculars to help them locate prey. They also come in handy while exploring new outdoor terrain as they provide users with a clear view of potential obstacles or dangers.

If you need to see ahead, then binoculars are the tool that allows you to proceed with caution or with assurance because you know what is coming.

The idea with hunting is to see your prey before it sees you, and with the right equipment and the cover of a bush or undergrowth, you can make this possible.

For Surveillance and Security

Binoculars provide an effective way to monitor spaces from afar. Law enforcement officers, security guards, and military personnel all use binoculars to keep an eye on the area they are protecting.

Surveillance is about discretion, and for this new need to right tools of the trade.

For Sports Events

Using binoculars, a better view of a sporting event can be achievable. This includes being able to view close-ups of the immediate action or a star player that you are following.

Binoculars are especially helpful in outdoor stadiums where greater distances can be involved.

For Emergency Response Teams

With a good pair of binoculars, emergency response teams can assess the situation from afar before entering a dangerous environment. It is good to be able to check on  a situation  from a safe distance should you have that kind of occupation. It is not always possible to use a drone, and certainly more expensive.

The beauty of binoculars is that they will provide teams with a panoramic or closer view of the area, which helps them plan a safe response.

Whether for recreational or professional use, binoculars provide users with a good view of their surroundings from distance. Using them, you can observe feathered creatures in the wild, look at the stars at night, hunt wildlife, explore the great outdoors in general, and make surveillance possible. Binoculars are something incredibly versatile to own because they can be used in a range of settings. Buying a pair of binoculars can therefore be seen as money well spent.

Long and Short Computer Essay

The term computer was once used to refer to a person who did computation, unlike today. The development of early prototypes that led to the modern computer is credited to many individuals throughout history. A series of breakthroughs, beginning with transistor computers and then integrated circuit computers, resulted in the development of transistor technology and the integrated circuit chip, causing digital computers to largely replace analogue computers.

In this essay, we will discuss the various components and types of computers and talk about their uses in various fields.

Long Computer Essay in English

A computer is an electronic tool that manipulates data or information. It can store, retrieve, and process information. We can type documents, send emails, play games, and browse the Web using a computer. It can also be used to edit spreadsheets, presentations, and even videos, or create them.

Early computers were conceived only as devices for calculating. Simple manual devices such as the abacus have helped individuals do calculations since ancient times. Some mechanical devices were built early in the Industrial Revolution to automate long, tedious tasks, such as guiding patterns for looms. In the early 20th century, more sophisticated electrical machines performed specialized analogue calculations.

Common Components of Computers

All those parts of a computer that are tangible physical objects are covered under the term hardware. The hardware includes circuits, computer chips, graphics cards, sound cards, memory (RAM), motherboards, displays, power supplies, cables, keyboards, printers and "mice" input devices.

 There are five main hardware components:

Input Devices:

These are devices that are used to enter data/information in the central processing unit. Example- keyboard, mouse, scanner, document reader, barcode reader, optical character reader, magnetic reader etc.

Output Devices:

These are devices that provide the processed data/information into human-readable form. Example- monitor, printer, speaker, projector etc.

Control Unit:

The control unit handles the various components of the computer; it reads and interprets (decodes) the instructions for the program, transforming them into control signals that activate other computer parts.

Arithmetic Logic Unit:

It is capable of performing arithmetical and logical functions. The set of arithmetic operations supported by a specific ALU may be restricted to addition and subtraction or may include functions of multiplication, division, trigonometries such as sine, cosine, etc., and square roots.

Central Processing Unit:

The ALU, control unit and registers and together called the CPU. It is sometimes called the computer's brain, and its job is to perform commands. We send instructions to the CPU whenever we press a key, click the mouse, or start an application.

Software refers to computer parts, such as programs, data, protocols, etc., that do not have a material form. In contrast to the physical hardware from which the system is built, the software is that portion of a computer system consisting of encoded information or computer instructions.

It is sometimes called "firmware" when the software is stored in hardware that can not be easily modified, such as with a BIOS ROM on an IBM PC compatible computer.

Computer hardware and software require each other, and neither of them can be realistically used on their own. There are four main components of a general-purpose computer: the arithmetic logic unit (ALU), the control unit, the memory, and the I/O (collectively called input and output) devices.

Uses of Computer

Computers are used in various fields, such as homes, businesses, government offices, research organizations, educational institutions, medicine, entertainment, etc. because of their features and powerful functions. They have taken sectors and companies to a whole new level.

Science-

Computers are best suited for the collection, analysis, categorization, and storage of data in science, research and engineering. They also help scientists to exchange data both internally and internationally with each other.

Government-

Computers in the government sector are used to perform various functions and improve their services. In most cases, data processing tasks, the maintenance of citizens' databases, and the promotion of a paperless environment are the primary purposes of using computers. In addition to this, computers play a key role in the country's defence system.

Health and Medicine-

They are used to preserve information, records, live patient monitoring, X-rays, and more from patients. Computers assist in setting up laboratory tools, monitoring heart rate and blood pressure, etc. Besides, computers allow physicians to easily exchange patient data with other medical specialists.

Education-

They help people get different educational materials (such as images, videos, e-books, etc.) in one place. Also, computers are best suited for online classes, online tutoring, online exams, and task and project creation. Also, they can be used to maintain and track student performance and other data.

Banking-

Most countries use online banking systems so that customers can access their data directly. People can verify the balance of their account, transfer cash, and pay online bills, including credit cards. Besides, banks use computers to execute transactions and store client information, transaction records, etc.

Short Computer Essay in English

A computer's a programmable device that accepts raw data(input) and processes it as output with a group of instructions (a program) to supply the result. It renders output after performing mathematical and logical operations and can save the output for future use. The word "computer" derives from the word "computare" in Latin, which means calculating.

Types of Computer

Computers are of different types based on different criteria. Based on their size, computers are of five types:

Micro Computers-

It is a single-user computer that has less capacity for speed and storage than the other types. For a CPU, it uses a microprocessor. Laptops, desktop computers, personal digital assistants (PDAs), tablets, and smartphones are common examples of microcomputers. Microcomputers are generally designed and built for general use, such as browsing, information search, the internet, MS Office, social media, etc.

Mini Computers-

Minicomputers are also referred to as "Midrange Computers." They are multi-user computers designed to simultaneously support multiple users. Therefore, they are generally used by small companies and firms.

Mainframe Computers-

It is also a multi-user computer that large companies and government organizations use to run their business operations as large amounts of data can be stored and processed. Banks, universities, and insurance companies, for example, use mainframe computers to store data from their customers, students, and policyholders.

Super Computer-

Among all types of computers, supercomputers are the fastest and most costly computers. They have an enormous capacity for storage and computing speeds and can therefore perform millions of instructions per second.

Workstations-

It is a single-user computer with a comparatively more powerful microprocessor and a high-quality monitor compared to a mini-computer.

Benefits of Computers:

It increases productivity.

It helps in connecting to the internet.

It helps in organizing data and information.

It allows storing large amounts of data.

Fun Facts About Computers

The first electric computer that was invented weighed around 27 tons or even more than that and took up to 1800 square feet.

There are about 5000 new viruses that are released every month.

The original name of Windows was Interface Manager.

It is surely known that the life of humans would not have been so easy if computers were not a part of human life. This is also supported by a lot of pieces of evidence where we can even see in daily life how the computer is not just present in an organization but is also available right in the pockets of everyone. Thus, the computer has surely made it easy while also spoiling a lot of people's lives.

How do I cite quotations from different pages of a work?

When citing quotations from different pages of a work, some writers are tempted to use a page range as a citation. For example:

Don Quixote’s intention to “do battle” with the “thirty or forty hulking giants” in the distance alarms Sancho Panza, who tells Don Quixote that they “are not giants but windmills” and that no one “could have mistaken them unless he had windmills in his brain” (Cervantes 98–99). Work Cited Cervantes, Miguel de.  Don Quixote of La Mancha . Translated by Walter Starkie, Signet Classic, 1964.

But this method is not preferable in MLA style. There are four quotations in this example, and it’s unclear which ones appear on page 98 and which on page 99, or perhaps on both pages. It’s best to tell readers exactly which page each quotation comes from. The following revision shows how to cite the quotations in MLA style:

Don Quixote’s intention to “do battle” with the “thirty or forty hulking giants” in the distance alarms Sancho Panza (Cervantes 98), who tells Don Quixote that they “are not giants but windmills” and that no one “could have mistaken them unless he had windmills in his brain” (98, 99). Work Cited Cervantes, Miguel de.  Don Quixote of La Mancha . Translated by Walter Starkie, Signet Classic, 1964.

In the revised example, the citation before the comma, (Cervantes 98), indicates that the first two quotations appear on page 98. The citation at the end of the sentence, (98, 99), indicates that the third and fourth quotations appear on pages 98 and 99, respectively.
