'30 Rojullo Preminchadam Ela' hit the screens today (January 29). Here is our review of the latest Telugu cinema outing.

A kusthi fighter gets defeated in a fistfight and dies a tragic death believing that his girlfriend has ditched him for someone else. Decades later, the duo is reborn as Engineering students in Vizag. Arjun (Pradeep Machiraju) and Akshara (Amritha Aiyer) are bitter enemies from Day 1 of their college. They don't know why they hate each other. But God has a supposedly wise plan for them. They will be made to lose themselves in each other in a surreal way and suffer from an identity crisis.

So many films, including the mass masala classic 'Magadheera', have used the reincarnation trope for decades in Indian cinema. This film borrows the concept of rebirth and gives it a banal spin in the name of divinity playing a clever game. Far from being intelligent or ennobling, '30 Rojullo Preminchadam Ela' gives a pounding headache that can make you forget your yesterday while the lead pair remembers their previous births at the audience's expense.

Besides being a mockery of love, comedy and Past Life Regression, this film also suffers from a lack of commonsense. Nowhere in Kiran Bheenu's story, up till the pre-climax phase, do the lead characters ask themselves if they can seek somebody's help to get rid of the uniquely-unique quandary they are in. When your future is under a cloud and you may never regain yourself, you literally go mad. Arjun and Akshara, too, go mad. At each other. As they have been doing since their first scene together.

Hema playing the hero's mother is the biggest warning that the film's casting process happened with mighty budget constraints in mind. You expect to have some poetic takeaways from a reincarnation film. But, more often than not, you see characters boozing, cheating, lusting and insulting in this film.

In the sea of childish absurdities that this film is, Posani Krishna Murali's character comes with a dose of seriousnes. But the maudlin acts around him are too old-school in nature. Are our filmmakers not tired of abusing our dark-skinned comedians as 'Nalla pandi' and all? If they don't know it's racist and racism is reprehensible, they should stop these 'jokes' at least because they are stale.

The film makes use of popular cinematic moments from blockbusters such as 'Athadu', 'Baahubali' and 'Bharat Ane Nenu'. When the hero is not busy harassing others, he bonds with Posani's character over whiskey. The labour pains of a woman are used manipulatively and there is no depth here.

Pradeep Machiraju, self-aware that he is doing a comedy film, cribs that a superb Boxing-powered introduction scene was spoiled by his mother. Boxing makes a serious entry only in the climax even though the hero is so very mad about the sport. Amritha Aiyer's acting chops are actually better than the hero's, especially in the second half.

Subhalekha Sudhakar and Jabardasth Mahesh are seen as spiritual seekers whose only job is to talk about the lead pair's romantic destiny. Had Anup Rubens not conceived 'Neeli Neeli Aakasam' for the movie, this one wouldn't have got whatever little buzz that is there.

'30 Rojullo Preminchadam Ela' is a ruined story from the word go. The reincarnation saga is spoilt by silly comedy and immature situations.

“30 Rojullo Preminchadam”, Pradeep Machiraju’s debut film as the main hero, has been creating waves on social media thanks to its viral song “Neeli Neeli Aakasam”. The makers have claimed that the film is as good as the song. 

Let’s check to know the truth in their claims.

Story: In 1947, Abbayi Gaaru (Pradeep Machiraju) and Ammayi Gaaru (Amritha Aiyer) want to get married but Abbayi gets killed in fist fight, and Ammayi commits suicide. They are born again as Arjun and Akshara.

Both get admission to the same Engineering college in Vizag. For some strange reason, they despise each other from the first sight itself. But the fate brings them to the same location where Abbai Garu and Ammayi Garu died.

Here’s the twist, they find themselves in each other's bodies. Arjun enters into Akshara’s body, Akshara in Arjun. What happens next is the rest of the drama?

Artistes’ Performances: Pradeep Machiraju in his maiden attempt as a hero has tried hard to score points but he looked clueless at many places. Pradeep suited well in the role of Abbayi Garu.

However, he has repeated the same antics and expressions that he does in his TV shows.

Amrutha Aiyer looks okay initially, but when she starts trying to act as a man in a woman’s body, her acting brings irritation.

Comedians Bhadram and Harsha are wasted. Hema as a mother indulges in over-the-top acting. 

Technical Excellence: One element that brought a buzz to the film is the viral song – Neeli Neeli Aakasam. Obviously, Anup Rubens music is a plus point.

Though all songs are not catchy, the viral song and another track are an asset to this otherwise mediocre movie.

Besides the music, Shivendra Dasaradhi’s cinematography is another attraction. Dialogues, editing, and production design are substandard.

Analysis The Telugu film industry has witnessed scores of love stories with a reincarnation theme. It has become clichéd now. To add something novel to this clichéd theme, debutant writer and director Munna has borrowed Hollywood’s favorite trope: Body-switch.

“30 Rojullo Preminchadam Ela” begins with a question - What is love? A disciple asks this question to his guru. The guru narrates a doomed love story that took place in that forest in 1947. We are told that the couple is reincarnated and are college students in 2020. The answer will be found in the story of this couple. How? The director doesn’t know the answer either.

All he does is throwing some outdated jokes in a college compound. Jokes about getting low marks in subjects, singing songs, teasing girls, etc, are the idea of entertainment in this film. The long and boring college episode at the interval bang tests the patience.

The second half entirely focuses on the silly comedy involving a boy in a girl’s body touching girls, smoking cigarettes and drinking alcohol, and the girl in a boy’s body wearing short dresses. Nearly an hour’s runtime focuses on these episodes.

The climax portions are better than the preceding two hours but by then we lose patience totally.

“30 Rojullo Preminchadam Ela” is loaded with immature ideas and amateur handling.

Bottom-line: Can't even bear for 30 minutes

30 Rojullo Preminchadam Ela Movie Review: A jarring romcom

Tollywood directors have given us all sorts of characters, from politicians to industrialists to dons. But in  30 Rojullo Preminchadam Ela , we have a famous spiritual guru who is compared to Rajamouli by his disciple. This disciple thinks of himself as an assistant director. That's just a sample of the weird ideas writer-director Phani Pradeep has tried to execute in this film.

Days before India attains Independence, Abbayi Gaaru (Pradeep Machiraju) and Ammayi Gaaru (Amritha Aiyer), who are in love, breathe their last. Since the guy was a Kusthi fighter then, he is reborn as Arjun, a wannabe kickboxer, decades later. The girl is reborn as Akshara. And it is hate at first sight for them. 

For a long time, the lead pair doesn't remember their past lives and do silly things. After a divine intervention, things turn even more juvenile. 

Since the story is a formulaic reincarnation saga, the ideas should at least not have been so generic for the film to work. Just because the male lead happened to die an embittered lover in his previous birth, he takes rebirth as a women-hating guy. In a low-brow college campus song showing girls as parasites, he blames women for exploiting boyfriends to satisfy their financial needs. But the same person exploits Maha Lakshmi, who pines for him sincerely, and uses her as his ATM. 

The lead pair is supposed to behave like soulmates preordained by destiny. But they just behave oddly.

The film is jarring on so many levels. A friendship song plays between the lead pair just a few minutes after they stopped quarrelling like incorrigible muppets. Viva Harsha, who is deliberately named Nagarjuna, keeps receiving racist 'jokes'.

This film doesn't work even as a college campus story. The jokes are all very unfunny. TV show host-turned-actor Pradeep makes a damp squib of a debut, with his comic timing testing your patience. Amritha Aiyer has the potential to deliver a good performance, provided the script is good, which this one isn't.

All told, the song  Neeli Neeli Aakasam , which comes just a few minutes into the movie, is the film's only bright spot.

30 Rojullo Preminchadam Ela is the debut vehicle of Television host Pradeep. Neeli Neeli Akasam song rendered by Sid Sriram clocked over 300 Million views on YouTube is the reason for the buzz around 30RPE.

What is it about?

Arjun (Pradeep) and Akshara (Amritha) are neighbors and also classmates but hate each other. They switch bodies in a strange situation and should figure a way out of it. There is also a reincarnation angle to this love story.

Performances:

Pradeep exhibited confidence playing a character with different shades. However, he repeated the antics from his television shows. Amrita Aiyer is okay in the first half but appeared clueless in the second half where she needs to smoke, drink and wear short dresses. Harsha and Bhadram only get to mouth outdated jokes. Subhalekha Sudhakar appeared comical in a serious role. Posani, Hema and Sivannarayana’s performances are over the top.

Technicalities:

Munna penned a script by mixing the famous ‘body-switch’ concept of the Hollywood and the reincarnation concept of Indian cinema and made an unbearable rom-com out of it. All the college jokes and family scenes seemed dated and the screenplay is pretty bad. Only Anup’s Neeli Neeli Akasam is the best thing about this film and there’s nothing much to talk about other technical aspects.

The story is a mix of Hollywood film ‘The Boy Girl Thing’ and the reincarnation theme. Hero and heroine switches their bodies and should live like that for thirty days. Strangely, the timeline is extended for another thirty days, which makes no sense as the film itself is titled 30 Rojullo Preminchadam Ela.

Director Munna presented the college scenes and the parents of the lead actors in an out fashioned style. He has not only lifted the main idea of the film from a Hollywood movie but also shamelessly copied scenes from popular Telugu movies also. A lengthy scene where the mothers of female students come to the college hostel and beat them black and blue is lifted from Pataas film.

The director simply wasted time in the first half with so many parody scenes and needless songs. Subhalekha Sudhakar’s character of the Sadhu also is presented in a comical way although unintentional. Second half is a slog with the film dragging on and on for no reason. The protagonists overcoming the hate towards each other and fall in love in thirty, err sixty days. However, it seems like an eternity for the helpless audience.

There’s nothing more in the movie besides the super hit song and its full video is available on YouTube. So, be wise and watch the song if you feel like watching the movie. Buying a ticket to watch the whole film will make you regret in the first thirty minutes itself.

Bottom Line: 30 Yugaalu!

For the unversed, 30 Rojullo Preminchadam Ela has Pradeep Machiraju and Amritha Aiyer in the lead roles. ‘Neeli Neeli Aakasam’ song from this film’s audio album turned out to be a sensational chartbuster and built good buzz to the film. Billed to be a romantic entertainer, this flick hit the silver screens today and here is our review of it.

Story: Back in 1947, Abbayi gaaru(Pradeep) and Ammayi gaaru(Amritha) are neck deep in love. Just as they plan to get married, the former is killed in a physical brawl and subsequently, Amritha commits suicide. The pair is later reincarnated as Arjun and Akshara. However, Arjun and Akshara get off on the wrong note and quarrel for literally everything. Fate plays its part and both Arjun and Akshara visit the place where they ended their lives in the previous birth. This is when Arjun’s soul enter Amritha and vice versa. The rest of the story deals with their journeys henceforth.

What about on-screen performances?

Pradeep Machiraju is energetic as usual and delivers a fine performance. He is in his element when it comes to comical scenes. But his acting and screen presence are a bit too similar to the way he presents himself in small screen shows. Amritha Aiyer looks cute and she fits the role well. Her skin show in the second half will attract the youth. She does an impressive job in traditional look as well. Posani Krishnamurali excelled in emotional scenes.

What about off-screen talents?

Anup Rubens is the main hero of the film. His background score sets the tempo for most parts. Neeli Neeli Aakasam song is one of the main reasons why the film garnered so much attention and Anup Rubens deserves the credit for the same. Sivendra’s cinematography is very good and so is the artwork. Majority of the dialogues in the college scenes are similar to Jabardasth punch dialogues. Many scenes in the film conceived without any imagination. They look like a medley of scenes from super hit films.

The director Munna picks the concept of reincarnation for his debut film. Sadly for him, the film lacks novelty. The flashback episode which forms the soul of the film was cut short for some strange reason. This love story was simply portrayed through a song and that just isn’t enough when the rest of the story is almost entirely based on this particular episode. Poor establishment of the core plot takes a toll on the narrative. College scenes are filled with spoof comedy. A story like this needs compelling screenplay and 30 Rojullo Preminchadam Ela fails miserably in this aspect. Loading the film with Jabardasth comedy is not the right approach and the director Munna will have to learn it the hard way.

30 Rojullo Preminchadam Ela unit said this romantic drama will be as good as Neeli Neeli Aakasam song, but sadly, this song is the only good thing about the film. First half is comparatively decent but things go haywire in the latter half. The film keeps going on and on without any real conviction. Most of the scenes are boring and lack novelty. Pradeep should have opted for a better storyline for his debut film as male lead.

Watch or Not:  Guess you know the answer already. DON’T.

First Half Report: Movie starts with feel-good flashback episode and in the college story some spoof comedy scenes are good. But, there are some boring moments in the middle. Interval twist is decent. Let’s see what’s in the store for the second half.

30 Rojullo Preminchadam Ela is a film that was being awaited for a long time because it marks the debut of Pradeep Machiraju as the hero for the first time in his career. The film is finally out in the theatres after a delay and let’s see how it is

The film starts in the pre-independence era and showcases a couple (Pradeep and Amrutha Iyer) who love each other. But sadly, they die in dire circumstances. Things change and the couple is reborn as Arjun and Akshara in 2020. They join the same college and hate each other. But through a big twist, their bodies get interchanged. What is that twist? Why did they get interchanged? What’s the whole reincarnation theme? That forms the rest of the story.

Plus Points

As the film marks the debut of Pradeep as a full-fledged hero, let’s talk about him first. The anchor turned actor is quite impressive in his debut film. He dances well, has good screen presence, and emotes nicely. Pradeep is good as the village guy and also does well as the young college-going youth.

Heroine Amrutha Iyer is quite good and is supremely talented. She shows glimpses of her brilliance in the emotional scenes and if handles her career well, she can go a long way ahead. For a change, Hema gets a good role and is neat as hero’s mother.

Viva Harsha, Bhadram are good with their comedy. Some college teasing scenes featuring the comedians and lead pair work well in the first half. Posani does well in his role and some visuals in the first ten minutes are good.

Minus Points

One of the biggest drawbacks is the main twist that is revealed during the break time. It is weird and silly. But at least the twist that is showcased should have been narrated well going forward. Things become so lousy after the first half that the story, narration, and logic go for a toss.

The super hit song, Neeli Neeli Aakasam comes in the first five minutes itself but the love story is not given time to blossom. The director should have narrated the love story in detail to give the needed effect. But he loses the golden opportunity and wastes time in the current time zone with silly comedy and unengaging scenes that derail the film.

The film has family emotions in plenty but they do not click one bit. An entire song is dedicated to the hero and his mother but this does not gel well and looks way too forced. The film fails big time in the emotional department as major family emotions do not click. More depth in writing should have made things better but things get spoilt in the second half.

Technical Aspects

Production values of the film are pretty good and especially the camera work is very good. The lyrics are good and the music is superb. Anup Ruben has done an amazing job with his score and is a major attraction. Editing is pathetic as close to 15 minutes in the film should have been chopped off. Dances are impressive and so was the production design.

Coming to the director Munna, he has done a disappointing job. His story idea is good but the major twist he chooses looks weird. But at least, he should have chosen proper logic, emotion, and pain in the love story to elevate that twist. He should have at least spent time on the period love story to make things better for what will be showcased in the second half. But that does not happen at all.

On the whole, 30 Rojullo Preminchadam Ela is a film that fails to live up to its hype. It starts off well but the unengaging scenes, dragged narration, and forced emotions take a toll on the viewer. Pradeep passes with full colors as a solo hero and reaches the expectations. But the film does not hold your attention and ends as a below-par watch this weekend.

The film is based on a couple, who learns that they are reincarnated and shared an exceptional bond in the past life. Helmed by Munna Dhulipudi, the romantic drama is backed by Babu SV under his banner SV productions. The film also features Hyper Aadhi, Posani Krishna Murali, and Viva Harsha, among others. The music of the film is composed by Anup Rubens and one of the songs of the film titled ‘Neeli Neeli Aakasam’ received much appreciation.

Pradeep Machiraju to make his Tollywood debut with 30 Rojullo Preminchadam Ela

“Neeli Neeli Aakasam” is the latest viral song in the Telugu film industry that has garnered more than 200 million views on YouTube. The song set expectations on the film titled ’30 Rojullo Preminchadam Ela’, which marks the debut of popular TV anchor Pradeep Machiraju as the lead hero.

The trailer is quite a contrast to the song that is melodious and has a classic touch. The trailer, which is out now, is loud and filled with clichéd sequences. The trailer suggests the movie deals with romance through rebirth.

Directed by newcomer Munna, it has Amritha Aiyer. She recently appeared in Ram starrer ‘Red’.
