My Dream Business Essay

The Inspiration

The inspiration for my business comes from my love of fashion and my concern for the environment. I have been a fashion enthusiast from a young age, but as I grew older, I became aware of the negative impacts of the industry on the environment. This realization sparked the idea of combining my passion for fashion with my desire to contribute to environmental sustainability.

Business Concept

My dream business would focus on creating high-quality, durable, and fashionable items using environmentally friendly materials and production methods. The goal is to create a line of clothing that not only looks good, but also feels good to wear, knowing that it’s made ethically and sustainably.

Production & Sourcing

Sourcing materials and production processes are critical components of my dream business. The aim is to source materials that are organic, recycled, or sustainably grown, and to work with manufacturers who adhere to ethical labor standards. Transparency about where and how the products are made would be a key selling point for my brand.

Marketing Strategy

The marketing strategy would focus on educating customers about the value of sustainable fashion and the impact of their purchasing decisions on the environment. Through various marketing channels, we would aim to create a community of conscious consumers who appreciate the ethos of the brand.

Challenges & Solutions

One of the main challenges of starting a sustainable fashion brand is the high costs associated with ethical and sustainable production. To overcome this, my business plan includes a strategy to start small, perhaps with a limited range of products, and gradually scale as the brand gains traction.

In conclusion, my dream business is a sustainable fashion brand that combines style with ethics and sustainability. It’s not just about selling clothes, but about creating a movement towards mindful consumption and contributing to a more sustainable fashion industry. I am ready to face the challenges and work tirelessly to turn this dream into reality.

My dream Business Restaurant Essay

My dream business is to open a unique restaurant that serves healthy, locally-sourced cuisine, housed in a space that promotes community and creativity. In a world where fast food chains are prevalent, I am motivated to create a dining experience that values nutritional quality, sustainable farming practices, and fosters social connections.

My passion for gastronomy and sustainable living inspires this dream business. Growing up in a family that values both good food and the environment, I have always been encouraged to consider the impact of my food choices. Seeing the need for more sustainable dining options, I envision a restaurant that serves delicious, nutritious meals that also contribute positively to the environment and the local community.

The concept of my restaurant revolves around serving dishes made from locally-sourced, organic ingredients. The menu will be seasonal, taking advantage of the freshest produce available and reducing the carbon footprint associated with long-distance transportation of food items. The restaurant will also feature an open kitchen design, promoting transparency and interaction between chefs and diners.

Location & Aesthetics

The choice of location and aesthetics is essential to my dream restaurant. I envision it located in a vibrant neighborhood, easily accessible to residents and visitors alike. The restaurant’s aesthetics will embody a blend of modern and rustic elements, creating an atmosphere that is comfortable, inviting, and encourages communication and connection among diners.

My marketing strategy will revolve around promoting the restaurant’s commitment to health, taste, and sustainability. This will be communicated through various channels such as social media, local events, and partnerships with other businesses that share similar values. The ultimate aim is to attract a loyal customer base who value the quality and ethical standards of the food they eat.

Starting a restaurant requires a significant investment, careful planning, and management. A key challenge is sourcing high-quality, local ingredients at competitive prices. To address this, I plan to establish strong relationships with local farmers and suppliers, ensuring a steady supply of fresh produce while supporting local businesses.

In conclusion, my dream business is a restaurant that promotes healthy eating, sustainability, and community connection. It’s not just about providing a dining experience, but also about educating people about the benefits of sustainable eating and offering a platform for local farmers. Although starting such a business presents numerous challenges, I believe that with careful planning and unwavering commitment, it is possible to turn this dream into a reality.

Here is an example of My Dream Restaurant Essay, titled as “ My Dream Restaurant: The Greatest Franchise.”

My Dream Restaurant Essay

My dream restaurant: introduction.

In general, start-up businesses are not easy to accomplish. A company’s founder may have great investors, but one certainly needs to pay back to them by increasing the business’ value. Hook: This sentence is used to draw the attention of the reader, you can use a fact or an example. It is crucial to have a well-thought road map before starting the business. If I had an $1 million funding, I would start a restaurant business as I believe there is a significant service gap in the industry. I do not believe the restaurants around my town deliver what people need. Therefore, I have some ideas to improve this industry. Context: Explain what you will be talking about and give context to the issue on hand. This paper will give a detailed explanation of my dream business and the roadmap of my restaurant. In my opinion, it is evident that there is an excellent opportunity to become successful in the restaurant business, and I believe my dream franchise would cover all the needs. Thesis Statement: State your central argument and position.

Body Paragraphs

Firstly, I want to open a restaurant with the $1 million funding because I am disappointed wherever I eat outside. The most important concern of mine is that there are no restaurants suitable for everybody. Topic Sentence: This sentence explains the central argument of this paragraph by giving some information about the specific subject. Each has its own branch; for example, one is for fast food, others are fine dining places. I do not see a place around me that fits everyone. Example: Set examples or give proofs after the topic sentence so your audience can realize the issue in their minds. I think it can be done in a single franchise by separating these sections. It would create a comfort zone and a decent living place where people would feel cozy. Concluding sentence: Offer solutions or present your thoughts about the issue on the last sentence of the body paragraphs.

I worked at a coffee shop for about a year in the past, it is not directly a restaurant business, but I believe the practices are significantly similar as both of them serve people food and drinks. There were a lot of problems regarding customer happiness because of the owner of the place. Topic sentence: This sentence once again explains the central argument of this paragraph by giving some information about the specific subject. It was strictly profit-oriented business instead of making people happy. I understand the very aim of opening a restaurant is driving revenue, but I also think the profit comes from your customers, and it is crucial to make them happy, steady, and loyal customers. I believe my dream restaurant would solve this problem by making the customers our priority.

Also, as I mentioned above, my restaurant would be different from others in its versatility. Topic sentence: This sentence once again explains the central argument of this paragraph by giving some information about the specific subject. It would have separate sections for all people, whether they want a romantic dinner or get something to eat in their one-hour break. I believe this would also increase our income by expanding our customer profile.

Our mission is to put our customers always first. Also, we would cover the needs of a broad selection of people. There would be different floors of my restaurant to create an overall experience for our customers collectively. Topic sentence: This sentence once again explains the central argument of this paragraph by giving some information about the specific subject. The first floor would be our fine dining place to provide people with high-end meals in an extraordinary setting. The cost of the meals in the delicate dining area would be our driving force in finance. I believe charging for a great experience is not necessarily a negative practice. In addition, it would create a profit gap for us to provide low-priced food in our other sections.

The second floor would be our bar section, where people can get something to drink without a giant restaurant setting. Topic sentence: This sentence once again explains the central argument of this paragraph by giving some information about the specific subject. They can relax and chat with their friends in a place which is decorated as a standard bar, instead of feeling inside a restaurant. I see that many restaurants offer alcoholic drinks already, but it is not practically a bar. Often people feel like dining instead of hanging out with their friends. Therefore, I believe this setup would provide the desired experience.

The third and last part of our mission is to serve people with low income. This would be the place on the backside of our restaurant, and it would serve fast food. Also, it would be a great drunk food aisle for our bar customers. Topic sentence: This sentence once again explains the central argument of this paragraph by giving some information about the specific subject. I believe this three-floor building would provide people with everything they need to socialize. Therefore, the mission of serving the public would be possible. I would be covering cities around the world with the same design when it comes to our vision. The ultimate goal of this business idea is to be an international restaurant. If we can achieve this in most parts of the world, I believe we would be the most significant stakeholder in the restaurant business, especially in small cities. Of course, this cannot be done in the first year of business, even with a $1 million investment. The one year I worked in the coffee shop taught me that you should keep some money aside for unexpected things. COVID-19 is an excellent example as all businesses lost profit, some are even closed. Therefore, the first-year goals would be: Creating the fine dining area to drive revenue with low-cost, high-profit sales, hiring three waiters and one sous-chef to save budget, earning %5 of the investment back.

I believe that in the first year of the business we should not expect significant profit, we should be more concerned with taking our time to perfect the first stage of the restaurant and create a brand awareness. Topic sentence: This sentence once again explains the central argument of this paragraph by giving some information about the specific subject. Five years after, we would aim to keep a steady revenue. I believe in the fifth year, we would already start the three-floor formation and be ready to start brand image advertisements. Therefore, our goals would be much different and future-oriented. These would be; Having a monthly recurring revenue of at least $50.000, hiring the best marketing managers for spotting opportunities around the world, setting up a franchising system for entrepreneurs worldwide.

After the first ten years, I believe we would be one of the most successful national restaurants and create a brand equity and recognition. Topic sentence: This sentence once again explains the central argument of this paragraph by giving some information about the specific subject. For this reason, the next step would become an international business. This is not an easy task, and I would happily leave that goal to professionals. Thus, tenth-year goals would be; Having ten franchises outside of the country, improving brand popularity and creating brand image by giving advertisements on the most known channels, hiring general managers around the world to properly manage our local branches, developing our relations with different states for tax benefits.

When it comes to our organizational culture, the hierarchy would be strict. As the only founder, I would have access and supervision over every decision made on every restaurant franchise. Topic sentence: This sentence once again explains the central argument of this paragraph by giving some information about the specific subject. After myself, general managers of each country would be responsible for the maintenance of local restaurants. In addition, the sous-chefs of different branches would be granted complete control of their restaurants. I would provide internal mobile app for each branch for improved communication. In my opinion, spreading updates and current information to the employees about our business is crucial.

In terms of formality, it would be best to create a friendly working environment. Topic sentence: This sentence once again explains the central argument of this paragraph by giving some information about the specific subject. Thus, a semi-formal workflair would be great for this business. I would also let my employees know that I am here for them by creating work benefits such as free access to certain facilities provided by the company.

Lastly, we would have a precise employee handbook about our priorities. This handbook aims to give a clear understanding of the company to the workers. Topic sentence: This sentence once again explains the central argument of this paragraph by giving some information about the specific subject. The first priority is customer service; it is essential to deliver our customers a great experience. Secondly, aside from being a semi-formal working environment, the workers should be careful of the existing hierarchy. Finally, for protecting the personal data, we believe what we get from our customers is incredibly important as they are sensitive information. It would be strictly forbidden for employees to use any information about the customers, such as their names or phone numbers.

After all, I believe this dream business would become an independent company. Its goals are precise and achievable. Key point: Start your conclusion with a striking sentence that will stay with the audience. It is vital to have a realistic roadmap, and this outline is possible if we do it properly. In my opinion, our mission and vision are innovative. Therefore, it would not take too long to succeed in this business. As I mentioned above, there is an excellent gap in the restaurant industry, and this idea would cover much of its requirements. Summary: Restate some of the points you made in the essay, but keep it short with only the most important information. In my view, there is a significant potential to succeed in the restaurant industry, and I am confident that my ideal business would be innovative. Concluding sentence: Present your thesis statement again as a concluding sentence, make sure not to use the exact wording with the introduction.

Dream Job in Business and Retirement Scenario Essay

Importance of a dream job, my best retirement scenario, personal experience to help comprehend “what’s the matter with david”, works cited.

Young people should think about their futures before they choose their majors. I believe that I am fortunate to have chosen business as my main field of study. It helps to unite various ethical issues, leadership skills, and financial items. A successful leader has to think about many things at the same time. Self-regulation, empathy, and social skills are the competencies for a leader’s consideration (Goleman 78). It is not enough to know what job should be chosen. It is important to understand the worth of a dream job, develop a detailed plan to obtain it, find enough motivators, and be sure that the choices made promote personal happiness and satisfaction. (Colby et al. 51).

After graduation, I hope to succeed in the finance and gain the required portion of experience in the U.S. to come back home and join the family business started by my grandfather. I think that an investment bank or some private equity could be chosen to gain a better understanding of cultural principles, the peculiarities of the work in teams, and the concerns that could be developed between employees. Still, to be a part of a team and to work as a part of the already established business should not be defined as my final goal. These are simply the means to achieve the dream job. I want to be educated and experienced enough to establish a company. To be a leader of my own company connected with the family business is my dream job.

My motivation is based on my ability to weigh different people’s experiences and consider my personal dreams. The experience of Black Irving, CEO of GoDaddy Company, shows that people may have no ideas about their future careers (Bryant). Sometimes it is enough to work with good people and find it interesting to organize people in regards to a personal tone. Besides, I am motivated by such concepts as curiosity, love of learning, and using new ideas in routine affairs (Crossan et al. 287). In the UAE, many business people develop their projects on foreign experiences and knowledge. I want to be ready for the challenges and stay competitive. Therefore, I believe that my practice in the USA and my devotion to our traditions and recognition of family values should help me create a strong company with clearly identified ideas and goals.

The success of my future career is hard to predict. Still, it is always possible and even helpful to dream of effective leadership. Leadership is the process of guiding people and promoting the importance of changes in the workplace. Being a transformational leader is my goal. I would like to underline the importance of change and innovation in the UAE family business because I believe that this field could be improved considerably regarding the current experiences of different nations. In 40 or 50 years, I would like to listen to one of my followers giving a speech about my retirement and my personal contributions to the business’s development.

“This person has proved that it is necessary to have a dream. It is not enough to identify it and make people aware of this dream’s existence. It is more important to understand how to obtain the dream and make other people believe in it. From an early age, this person demonstrated a number of qualities that were inherent to true leaders. He decided to go to an American university and obtain a high level of knowledge. It was unnecessary to motivate him because he had enough strength and dreams to take all steps independently.

“His devotion to his family and intentions to make something useful for his country made him strong and goal-oriented. Though some people thought that the existing difference between American and Arab cultures could not result in something successful, this person showed that friendship between nations was possible. Relying on the experience of his grandfather as the main role model in business, this leader combined American persistence and Arab innovations and created a spirit that could inspire people and solve ethical dilemmas that remain common in the workplace. Ethical problems could mislead and intimidate. They could gain different forms and lead to unpredictable outcomes. The development of trustful relations and communication are the best solutions, and our leader showed how those steps should be taken.

“A family business is not an easy task. This leader came to the country to break some rules and help people not to divide friendship and business but use it to succeed. There are many stories of certain problems that may occur when a leader has to punish or fire a worker he/she has no tight relations with. However, when it is time to solve a problem with a friend or family member, a number of questions and concerns occur. The example demonstrated by this person inspires millions of people because he made something impossible: He combined friendship, finance, and business success over many years. He proved that people had the right to make friends in the workplace and promote trustful cooperation, sincere explanations, and fair corrections. At the same time, this leader taught us how to control emotions and how to use them for good only. Emotions and business could co-exist. This has been proven by our retiring leader, who will never be forgotten.”

Such a speech as this would show that my achievements and contributions were recognized by others, my ideas helped people, and my attitudes supported the development of the business in the UAE.

The scenario introduces David, a smart and funny person, who was a good student at Stern and then became a good worker in the company after graduation. Because of the close relationship that developed between David and me during his education, I was not able to define several slights, although still evident, shortages in his work. I remembered the words of one of the greatest philosophers that “it is unlawful either to weigh true morality against conflicting expedience, or common morality, which is cultivated by those who wish to be considered good men, against what is profitable” (Cicero 273). Therefore, I came to the conclusion that a certain change should be offered in order to avoid any unpleasant results, to improve the work of my team, and to avoid judgments. The last annual review process that took place showed that some members of the team were not good workers. My manager offered me the idea of pruning a tree so it could grow better. The hint was clear enough, and I had to make a decision about David. I understood that my friend might need to be let go. Still, it was necessary to avoid judgments and wrong considerations in the matter.

After the meeting, David offered me a quick drink that night. In order to not appear suspicious, I could not refuse his suggestion. At the same time, I also wanted to notify my friend about possible changes. Therefore, I accepted his offer of a drink. However, I did not spend much time at the bar and explained that my hurry was because of personal issues. The next day I informed all my team about the possibility of additional checks and the possible professional evaluation. I offered to unite as a team, to remove all personal and professional shortages, and to try to demonstrate the best qualities. Lateness, work evasion, and gossip were not allowed. Those rules should be followed by all members, including me. As a leader, I had to pass this check as well. When David asked about the conditions of the assessment after work, I underlined that I was not aware of the details but that assessment was directed to check all members of a team. The only thing that I could do as a leader and as his friend was to become a good example to follow. I focused on the work, tried to support all members in the same way, and organized special meetings to discuss the things that mattered to the team. I explained the importance of labor division and the worth of such issues as dexterity and justice (Smith 8). I did not want to underline the differences in the relations, but I had to explain to my friend David that all employees had to work hard to demonstrate their abilities and continue working in the company.

As soon as I made a conscious effort to become a good example for all members of my team, David included, I observed a number of changes. It turned out that some other members of the team were also good friends and tried to support each other. In addition, all employees found my leadership style to be rather attractive and effective. It turned out to be my mistake that I did not notice the full potential of my team earlier but rather focused on my friendship with David. The result of this discovery was unpredictable indeed. My team became a team of friends and experts. We got to know the weak and strong sides of each person and helped to identify the best means to achieve good results. My friendship with one person on the team was no longer enough. It was necessary to befriend all members of the team to achieve success. Therefore, the one thing I would do differently with the benefit of experience would be to pay more attention to all members of my team. Finally, when the time to meet with the manager came, I introduced the results of the performance of all my team members and proved that each person had both strong and weak aspects. If some mistakes occurred in the team, a leader should take responsibility for them. I was ready to take that responsibility, and I was justified because my team was one of the best in the company.

My Dream Essay - 100, 200, 500 Words

Everyone has a life ambition they want to achieve when they are adults. Some aspire to become doctors, lawyers, or engineers and work with someone, and some wish to work independently. However, only you know that to accomplish your goals, one must work hard and remain focused. We'll talk about the fundamental elements that enables us to achieve our dream in this essay about ‘my dream’ .

100 Words Essay On My Dream

Every night I dream of becoming famous. My goal is to work in the film business and achieve success. But I'll have to put in a lot of effort for it. My mother always reminds me to prioritise my education and along with that pursue my ambition of being a model.

My father believes in me and supports me as well. Only having a dream won’t help, I also need to work towards the achievement of my dream. To be inspired to work hard, it is crucial to have dreams and goals. An aim is a source of inspiration which gives the willpower to overcome obstacles and work tirelessly to make it a reality.

200 Words Essay On My Dream

Every day, I like to set aside some time from my responsibilities to reflect on my aspirations. My dream is to succeed in business. My interest in business has always been strong and my inspiration was my father. My father owns a business, and I have always had a strong desire to run a company.

How I Will Achieve My Dream

To achieve my dream, I must first understand the fundamentals of business since operating a firm is not as simple as it may seem. This will be the first step towards achieving my goal. I've thus enrolled in a reputable college to pursue my Bachelor of Business Administration after finishing my intermediate (BBA). I'll pursue a master's degree in business administration after finishing my BBA. By that time, I will have acquired all the information I need to succeed in business and understand the basics of how to run a company.

In addition to the academic component, I know I can always rely on my father to share with me the real-world lessons and experiences that will help me achieve my dream of turning into a prosperous businessman.I've also begun reading periodicals about successful business people and their achievements to pick up some ideas that will be useful to me in the long run. I'll work tirelessly and with all of my might to achieve my dream.

500 Words Essay On My Dream

The first requirement for making a dream come true is Determination. It will assist you in making career decisions and stick with it.

Don't allow your worries to stop you

Actively follow your passions and take action

Make a support system out of people who share your passions

Turn your mistakes and failures into teaching moments instead of reasons to give up.

It will also be beneficial to move slowly and steadily in the direction of the dream. And no matter how great your dream is, preparing and establishing short-term objectives will always be beneficial. This is crucial since chasing your ambition too quickly won't benefit you in any manner.

Motivation And Dreams

One of the biggest reasons why someone is forced to give up their dream is a lack of motivation. You may not be able to achieve your ambition if you can't maintain your optimism. Many people nowadays give up on their dream because they lack motivation. You must constantly remind yourself why you want to achieve this dream in the first place. When things become tough and you want to give up, keep your focus on the goal. This will keep you motivated. And if you think you made a serious mistake, start over with a fresh slate.

It's important to keep motivated and discontinue until your goal has been accomplished; hanging out with a close friend is an excellent motivation since it helps your brain recharge. Additionally, this is a powerful kind of self-motivation. Working for the objective does not mean to work constantly. On top of that, people quickly start to lose motivation as a result of constant work. Hence, relaxing will benefit both body and mind. Take a little break from the schedule and participate in other activities.

Remember Your Goal

Humans are afraid of making errors, but this fear causes us to overlook the fact that mistakes help us grow and learn new things. Every time you make a mistake, you go through a difficult moment, but this helps you become stronger.

Dreams require sacrifices, whether staying apart from your family for higher studies or working in another country. Whatever desire you have, no matter what field it relates to, will require all your determination, hard work, patience, integrity, and effort.

The Story Of My Dream

Since childhood, I have dreamed of becoming a doctor so I can reach the people in the most need. I belong to a small town and have no medical facilities in it. People need to be more educated and care about their health.

To achieve my aim, I started to gain as much knowledge as possible through teachers, internet sources, professional people and mentors, as they have experience in life. Furthermore, I plan to get admitted to the government medical college to attain a degree with good grades. However, it's challenging but possible. With my dedication and hard work, I will succeed.

Everyone has aspirations, but only those that can be genuinely valued can be regarded as real. While having a goal is easy, following it until it is fulfilled is difficult. Everyone must work very hard if they want to achieve their goals.

When selecting a location, it is essential to consider the local zoning laws and regulations, which may impact the hours of operation, signage, and outdoor seating.

Menu Planning:

A coffee shop menu should offer a variety of coffee drinks, including espresso, cappuccino, latte, and brewed coffee . The menu should also include other beverages, such as tea, hot chocolate, and smoothies. In addition to beverages, the menu should offer light snacks, such as pastries, sandwiches, and salads. The menu should be designed to appeal to the target customer demographic and reflect the local market trends. It is also essential to consider dietary restrictions, such as gluten-free and vegan options, to accommodate a wide range of customers.

A coffee shop’s brand is a critical component of its success. The brand should convey the shop’s values, personality, and unique offerings. This can be achieved through the shop’s name, logo, interior design, and overall ambiance. The branding should be consistent across all aspects of the business, including the menu, social media, and advertising. The brand should be designed to resonate with the target customer demographic and differentiate the coffee shop from its competitors.

Marketing is essential to attract new customers and retain existing ones. A marketing plan should include both traditional and digital marketing strategies. Traditional marketing strategies may include flyers, local newspaper ads, and sponsorships of community events. Digital marketing strategies may include social media marketing, email marketing , and search engine optimization. The marketing plan should be designed to increase the coffee shop’s visibility, engage with customers, and encourage loyalty.

Financial Management:

A successful coffee shop requires effective financial management to ensure profitability and sustainability. The financial plan should include a startup budget, which covers the costs of equipment, inventory, and marketing. Additionally, the financial plan should include a sales forecast and break-even analysis to determine the minimum sales required to cover the business’s expenses. It is also essential to monitor the coffee shop’s financial performance regularly and make adjustments as needed to optimize profitability.

Conclusion:

Starting and operating a coffee shop requires careful planning, research, and execution. Key aspects of a successful coffee shop include market analysis, location selection, menu planning, branding, marketing, and financial management. By taking the time to carefully consider these factors, aspiring coffee shop owners can establish a profitable and sustainable business.

“Everyone has the ability to dream, but not everyone has the willingness to truly chase their dreams. When people aren’t living their dreams they often have limited belief systems. They believe that their current circumstances and/or surroundings are keeping them from achieving the things they want to do in life.”

In her essay, author Michelle Colon-Johnson encourages her readers to develop a mindset that will let them chase their dreams. So, you have to visualize your dream, manifest it, and start your journey towards it! Check out these essays about dreams and sleep .

“At the time when I have my job and something to make them feel so proud of me, I would like to give them the best life. I would like to make them feel comfortable and see sweet smiles on their faces. This is really the one I like to achieve in my life; mountains of words can’t explain how much I love and appreciate them.”

Author Deborah Massey’s essay talks about her dreams and everything she wanted to achieve and accomplish in her life. She also tells us that we must live our values, pursue our dreams, and follow our passions for the best future.

“Fast-forward 5+ years, and my first published book is coming out this May with Scholastic. And now, let me tell you the truth: I don’t feel any different. I’m extremely grateful for the opportunity, proud of the work I’ve done, and excited for the book’s release. But on a fundamental level, I feel the same.”

In her essay, author Christine Nishiyama shares what she felt when she first achieved one of her goals in life. She says that with this mindset, you will never feel the satisfaction of achieving your goal or the fulfillment of reaching your dream. Instead, she believes that what fulfills people is the pursuit of their dreams in life.

“My dream is to become a good plastic surgeon and day after day it has transformed into an ambition which I want to move towards. I do not want to be famous, but just good enough to have my own clinic and work for a very successful hospital. Many people think that becoming a doctor is difficult, and I know that takes many years of preparation, but anyone can achieve it if they have determination.”

Author Kathy Benson’s essay narrates her life – all the things and struggles she has been through in pursuing her dreams in life. Yet, no matter how hard the situation gets, she always convinces herself not to give up, hoping her dreams will come true one day. She believes that with determination and commitment, anyone can achieve their dreams and goals in life.

“I have always been a big dreamer and involved in acting upon it. Though, many times I failed, I continued to dream big and act. As long as I recollect, I always had such wild visions and fantasies of thinking, planning, and acting to achieve great things in life. But, as anyone can observe, there are many people, who think and work in that aspect.”

In his essay, author Shyam Gokarn explains why having a big dream is very important in a person’s life. However, he believes that the problem with some people is that they never hold tight to their dreams, even if they can turn them into reality. As a result, they tend to easily give up on their dreams and even stop trying instead of persevering through the pain and anguish of another failure.

“When I was younger, I’ve always had a fairytale-like dream about my future. To marry my prince, have a Fairy Godmother, be a princess… But now, all of that has changed. I’ve realized how hard life is now; that life cannot be like a fairy tale. What you want can’t happen just like that.”

Celia Robinson’s essay talks about her dream since she was a child. Unfortunately, as we grow old, there’s no “Fairy Godmother” that would help us when things get tough. Everyone wants to succeed in the future, but we have to work hard to achieve our dreams and goals.

“Take writing for example. I’ve wanted to be a professional writer since I was a little boy, but I was too scared that I wouldn’t be any good at it. But several years ago I started pursuing this dream despite knowing how difficult it might be. I fully realize I may not make it, but I’m completely fine with that. At least I tried which is more than most people can say.”

In his essay, author Steve Bloom encourages his readers always to pursue their dreams no matter what happens. He asks, “Would you rather pursue them and fail or never try?”. He believes that it’s always better to try and fail than look back and wonder what might have been. Stop thinking that failure or success is the only end goal for pursuing your dreams. Instead, think of it as a long journey where all the experiences you get along the way are just as important as reaching the end goal.

“Dreams are hallucinations that occur during certain stages of sleep. They’re strongest during REM sleep, or the rapid eye movement stage, when you may be less likely to recall your dream. Much is known about the role of sleep in regulating our metabolism, blood pressure, brain function, and other aspects of health. But it’s been harder for researchers to explain the role of dreams. When you’re awake, your thoughts have a certain logic to them. When you sleep, your brain is still active, but your thoughts or dreams often make little or no sense.”

Author James Roland’s essay explains the purpose of having dreams and the factors that can influence our dreams. He also mentioned some of the reasons that cause nightmares. Debra Sullivan, a nurse educator, medically reviews his essay. Sullivan’s expertise includes cardiology, psoriasis/dermatology, pediatrics, and alternative medicine. For more, you can also see these articles about sleep .

“The first time I experienced sleep paralysis and recognised it for what it was I was a student. I had been taking MDMA and listening to Django Reinhardt. My memories of that time are mainly of taking drugs and listening to Django Reinhardt. When I woke up I was in my paralysed body. I was there, inside it. I was inside my leaden wrists, my ribcage, the thick dead roots of my hair, the bandages of skin. This time the hallucinations were auditory. I could hear someone being beaten outside my door. They were screaming for help. And I could do nothing but lie there, locked inside my body . . . whatever bit of me is not my body. That is the bit that exists, by itself, at night.”

In her essay, Author Eli Goldstone talks about her suffering from bad dreams ever since childhood. She also talks about what she feels every time she has sleep paralysis – a feeling of being conscious but unable to move.

“We often hear stories of people who’ve learned from their dreams or been inspired by them. Think of Paul McCartney’s story of how his hit song “Yesterday” came to him in a dream or of Mendeleev’s dream-inspired construction of the periodic table of elements. But, while many of us may feel that our dreams have special meaning or a useful purpose, science has been more skeptical of that claim. Instead of being harbingers of creativity or some kind of message from our unconscious, some scientists have considered dreaming to being an unintended consequence of sleep—a byproduct of evolution without benefit.”

Author Matthew Walker, a professor of psychology and neuroscience, shares some interesting facts about dreams in his essay. According to research, dreaming is more than just a byproduct of sleep; it also serves essential functions in our well-being.

“Dreams are basically stories and images that our mind creates while we sleep. They can be vivid. They can make you feel happy, sad, or scared. And they may seem confusing or perfectly rational. Dreams can happen at any time during sleep. But you have your most vivid dreams during a phase called REM (rapid eye movement) sleep, when your brain is most active. Some experts say we dream at least four to six times a night.”

In his essay, Author Hedy Marks discusses everything we need to know about dreams in detail – from defining a dream to tips that may help us remember our dreams. Hedy Marks is an Assistant Managing Editor at WebMD , and Carol DerSarkissian, a board-certified emergency physician, medically reviews his essay.

“Regardless of whether dreams foretell the future, allow us to commune with the divine, or simply provide a better understanding of ourselves, the process of analyzing them has always been highly symbolic. To understand the meaning of dreams, we must interpret them as if they were written in a secret code. A quick search of an online dream dictionary will tell you that haunted houses symbolize “unfinished emotional business,” dimly lit lamps mean you’re “feeling overwhelmed by emotional issues,” a feast indicates “a lack of balance in your life,” and garages symbolize a feeling of “lacking direction or guidance in achieving your goals.”

Author David B. Feldman, an author, speaker, and professor of counseling psychology, believes that dreams may not mean anything, but they tell us something about our emotions. In other words, if you’ve been suffering from a series of bad dreams, it could be worth checking in with yourself to see how you’ve been feeling and perhaps consider whether there’s anything you can do to improve your mood.

“Ever wish you could ice skate across a winter sky, catching crumbs of gingerbread, like flakes of snow, on your tongue? How about conquering a monster in a nightmare, bouncing between mountain peaks, walking through walls, or reading minds? Have you ever longed to hold the hand of someone you loved and lost? If you want to fulfill your fantasies, or even face your fears, you might want to try taking some control of your dreams (try being the operative). People practiced in lucid dreaming—the phenomenon of being aware that you are dreaming while you are asleep—claim that the experience allows adventure, self-discovery, and euphoric joy.”

In her essay, Author Serena Alagappan talks about lucid dreams – a type of dream where a person becomes conscious during a dream. She also talked about ways to control our dreams, such as keeping a journal, reciting mantras before bed, and believing we can. However, not everyone will be able to control their dreams because the levels of lucidity and control differ significantly between individuals.

“There was a period of six months when I tried to go off my medication – a slowly unfolding disaster – and I’d thought my dreams might settle down. Instead, they grew more deranged. Even now I think of the dream in which I was using a cigarette lighter to melt my own father, who had assumed the form of a large candle. I’ve since learned that, apart from more research being needed, this was probably a case of “REM rebound”. When you stop taking the medication, you’ll likely get a lot more REM sleep than you were getting before. In simple terms, your brain goes on a dreaming frenzy, amping up the detail.”

Author Ashleigh Young’s essay informs us how some medications, such as antidepressants, affect our dreams based on her own life experience. She said, “I’ve tried not to dwell too much on my dreams. Yes, they are vivid and sometimes truly gruesome, full of chaotic, unfathomable violence, but weird nights seemed a reasonable price to pay for the bearable days that SSRIs have helped me to have.”

In simple terms, a dream is a cherished aspiration, ambition, or ideal; is it the same as your goal in life? In your essay, explore this topic and state your opinion about what the word “dream” means to you.

This is an excellent topic for your statement or “about me” essay. Where do you see yourself in the next ten years? Do you have a career plan? If you still haven’t thought about it, maybe it’s time to start thinking about your future.

Having dreams is very important in a person’s life; it motivates, inspires, and helps you achieve any goal that you have in mind. Without dreams, we would feel lost – having no purpose in life. Therefore, in your essay, you should be able to explain to your readers how important it is to have a dream or ambition in life.

What are the reasons for a person to dream big?

Dreaming big sounds great; however, it’s easier said than done. First, you’ve got to have reasons to dream big, which will motivate you to achieve your goals in life. If you’re writing an essay about dreams in life, mention why most people dare to dream big and achieve more in life. Is it about freedom, money, praise from other people, satisfaction, or something else entirely?

For example, you could watch movies, play video games, relax every night, or give up all of them to learn a complex skill – what would you choose, and why? In your essay about dreams in life, answer the question and include other examples about this topic so your readers can relate.

There are many answers to this question – one is that dreams may have an evolutionary function, testing us in scenarios crucial to our survival. Dreams may also reduce the severity of emotional trauma. On the other hand, some researchers say dreams have no purpose or meaning, while some say we need dreams for physical and mental health. Take a closer look at this topic, and include what you find in your essay.

Weird dreams could result from anxiety, stress, or sleep deprivation. So, manage your stress levels, and stick to a sleep routine to stop having weird dreams. If you wake up from a weird dream, you can fall back asleep using deep breaths or any relaxing activity. You can research other causes of weird dreams and ways to stop yourself from having them for your essay about dreams and sleep.

The same areas of the brain that are active when we learn and process information in the actual world are active when we dream, and they replay the information as we sleep. Many things we see, hear, and feel in our everyday lives appear in our dreams. If you want to write an informative essay about dreams and sleep, look into more details about this topic.

Tip: When editing for grammar, we also recommend taking the time to improve the readability score of a piece of writing before publishing or submitting it.

People may not remember what happened in their dreams. Studies show that people tend to forget their dreams due to the changing levels of acetylcholine and norepinephrine during sleep. This will be quite an exciting topic for your readers because many people can relate. That being said, research more information about this topic, and discuss it in detail in your essay.

Although some people believe that dreams don’t mean anything, many psychologists and other experts have theorized about the deeper meaning of dreams. Therefore, your essay about dreams and sleep should delve deeper into this topic. If you’re stuck picking your next essay topic, check out our round-up of essay topics about education .

Introduction:

My dream to become a Soldier started on an Army Day (January 15th), when I was still in High School. I witnessed the tribute paid to martyred soldiers at the Amar Jawan Jyoti in India Gate. It was followed by parades displaying Tanks, Missiles, and War Helicopters etc. The impression I received that day motivates me to realise my dream to become a Soldier.

Love of a Soldier:

The history of Indian independence and the life of freedom fighters has always fascinated me. Those who were responsible for the air of freedom we breathe today, loved our motherland and dedicated their lives to its well-being. These seeds in me have developed a sense of love for the country. It has also nurtured my dream to become a soldier and safeguard it.

Spirit of a Soldier:

Apart from academics, I started to collect all details about how to realise my dream to become a Soldier. I began to understand the values that inspire a Soldier to willingly face challenges and responsibly safeguard the nation even at the cost of his own life. This inspired me to study well and keep myself fit to achieve my dream to become a Soldier.

Training of a Soldier:

I also understood about the training before service. The feeling of pride and mutual loyalty is imbibed among the trainees. They are also trained to willing sacrifice for the country’s honour, with a do or die spirit. A sense of fearlessness, fairness and honesty are inculcated during the disciplined training. These components further kindled my dream to become a Soldier.

Lifestyle of a Soldier:

On the one hand, the soldier’s life is a life of self-sacrifice. On the other hand, the lifestyle it offers far exceeds my expectation, and fuels my dream to become a Soldier. Opportunities to advance in ranks, paid study holidays, subsidized housing, free medical coverage and recreational facilities are provided, apart from regular salary and perks. Lifelong pension is awarded after retirement.

Conclusion:

Many young people in the country offer the time of their life to work for big Corporates. But, I am here to pursue my dream to become a Soldier and dedicate my life to the welfare of the nation. I often encourage my friends to follow my dream to become a Soldier, at least for a short service tenure ranging from 10 to 14 years.

At a very early age, my dream was to do something big in life. But along with that I still had some fears also. I want to have a successful career, and for this, I had set an aim. It is quite essential for everybody to get them to establish professionally and successfully. Besides this, few other dreams are also necessary for me like health, relationships, and many different aspects of life. However, I also fear to get fail in achieving all these targets.

Career Dream and Fear:

When I was a kid, my dream was to become a doctor. But during my growing age, the Bollywood industry fascinated me and then my dream of becoming doctor changed to an actor. When I passed my class 12 th , the only goal that hit my mind was becoming an engineer. I always fear of dreaming about big things, but if you have potential then, you can achieve anything in life.

Dream and Fear of Health and Fitness:

When I was young, I was not so much concerned about my health. But now I realized the importance of having good health. My dream of becoming fit and healthy was only achieved due to strong willpower and eagerness of doing regular exercise. With this thought, I managed to lose around 15 kg easily. Now, I don’t fear about eating any food as I compensate that with my daily workout.

Dreams and fear about the relationship:

There is a special place of relationships in my life, and sometimes I fear about losing the important people in my life. But, now I realize that instead of thinking negative, we should try to spend more time with the people. It is as essential as my dream of good career.

Thinking only about the career and success with the little amount of fear might not offer you complete happiness later. It is good to become serious about your career, but you should also try to overcome any fear for a more successful life ahead.

Life is a dynamic process that has its ups and downs. Juggling the disparities of life can be very stressful at times and that is why you get your mind wondering in thoughts. Most thoughts are usually based on what people desire, which we call the dream life. The desires in life may not always be achieved but it is good to have a picture or at least an idea of the kind of life on desires to have. In America, people have the American dream but you as an individual should ask yourself; what is your dream life?

How my dream life looks like:

Socially, I have always imagined myself being a very influential person in my society. Currently in school, I always have the urge to influence someone but I still lack the confidence and resources to do so. I have always wanted to travel the world and explore different cultures of the world through interactions with people. I also imagine of having a great family with whom I can travel the world with.

Career-wise, I want to work at the comfort of my own home and be flexible so that I can always have time for my family. Spiritually, I have a desire to always be in good terms with God and follow the doctrines of my religion.

Economically, I want to be self-actualized at an early age so that I can focus on my influential personality, having all the resources I need. I want to be satisfied with what I will have achieved and work on living a happy life.

How I plan on living my dream life?

Living the dream life can begin any time that you chose to be as an individual. For my dream life, the things that I can achieve while still at school is the ability to have a spiritual wellness and flowing the doctrines of my religion. I can also start learning to appreciate whatever I have and living a happy life.

For the desires that I cannot achieve at the moment, I will work towards achieving them by shaping and redirecting the pathway. For example, my career, I will pursue something in the university that will allow me to work from home without necessarily going to work.

A dream life is basically the desired of one’s heart inform of an imagination. A dream life does not affect the reality in any way.

A dream is something that helps you to mold your future and aim your life to an appropriate goal. Dreaming big will help us to work for it harder and finally achieve it. Without desire and aim in life, we cannot focus and work hard to fulfill our dream.

My Dream to become a Doctor:

The biggest dream of my life is to become a doctor. I have seen many doctors, who save other people’s lives and they feel happy in the satisfaction they get through this activity. I want to be a doctor, who will serve good for this society and help poor to get good medical care without expecting big money in return.

Doctors are respected in all places and among all types of society. In spite of being different in many things like wealth, religion, etc., everyone will be in need of the best doctor to treat them honestly. I dream of being one such doctor to whom anyone can come without any doubt and fear of being tricked.

I don’t want to be a doctor who just works for money. I want to help others who can’t afford big budget treatments and choose their fate due to their lack of money. When a person is cured of their illness, the smile that appears on their face will be the greatest reward I will ever get. My dream is to become a doctor, who is praised for the kindness and get rewards through others blessings.

How to become a Doctor?

To get the admissions in a medical seat is not that easy. But I will work hard and crack the competitive exam to get a merit seat in the college. I will work hard from the beginning to end to improve my knowledge and keep updated about every upcoming and ongoing development.

I would like to choose the specialization when I can actually decide which one will suit my desire. I have an aim to serve the people in their needs and once I grow big enough to decide the correct career to fulfill my dream, I will work harder to achieve that as well.

After achieving My Dream:

Once I complete my whole medical courses I would be looking to practice in a well-reputed hospital to perfect my job. With this perfection I will start my own clinic and serve people for the rest of my life along with this I will help other students also to get trained to become a good doctor. I will make sure that my dream will come true at the best time.

We all have some sort of ambition or dream. My dream is to become a world class chef. Dreams play a very important role in moulding our future. There is a saying that “if you can imagine it, you can achieve it; if you can dream it, you can become it”. This saying implies that if you can work hard and put in your best to achieving your dream, it is very possible to live your dream. Working hard to achieve ones dream is easier said than done but if you put in your best effort and never give up, dreams are achievable.

In the path of achieving my dream, it is important that I take one step at a time. Even if I have a very big dream of becoming a word class chef, it is best for me to take steady and small steps by setting both long term and short term goals, by doing this, I am always working towards achieving my dream. When I take one step at a time, it helps not to rush into decisions and take things easy.

I know becoming a world class chef is not very easy and can only happen if complete and proper training from a very reputable institute and there isn’t much I can do at the moment to speed up the realisation of my dream since I am still in school. However, I still do my best to set my dream rolling, I follow a lot of cooking websites and blogs, watch cooking shows, read culinary books and I practice my cooking to sharpen my skills every time. These are all little steps I am taking towards achieving my dream. Though my goal is to become a world class chef, I have small goals in place for each month and year to come so that I can reach my dream.

A major hindrance to achieving my set goals and my dream is the lack of inadequacy of motivation. A lot of people have given up their goals and dreams just because they got tired on the way. It is extremely important to remain motivated and only stop is when the dream has been achieved. Highlighted below are some useful tips that I have used to keep myself motivated on the journey to reaching my dream:

i. Anytime I see that I am running out of drive and energy and I am becoming too tired to stick to my set goals, I try to remind myself of what my dream is and the feeling of pride and joy I will experience when I achieve it and become a world class chef. It feels like pressing a reset button and starting with a refreshed mind again and working harder towards achieving my dream.

ii. Long term goals and short term goals are set towards the ultimate goal of achieving my dream and as I reach these short term goals, I try to reward myself for my achievement. The reward can vary from eating dinner at my favourite restaurant or buying myself a new phone I wanted or going out with my friends. Rewarding myself is a very good way to remain motivated towards the achievements of my goals and ultimately my dream.

iii. When I work too much and have no time to relax and play, my productivity drops and I become dull. Therefore, it is a good idea to have some time for myself away from work to focus on something fun that I love. I find time in my schedule every day to engage in some form of leisure activity or sport.

iv. Having people who believes in my dream and support my goals around me makes all the difference. Having positive people helps me find the strength and courage to push on and not give up on my dream. They motivate me to work hard and do the best to achieve my goals and my dream.

v. A mistake is nothing more than an experience and an opportunity to try again and do things much better. So, instead of getting heartbroken and disheartened to the point of wanting to give up on my goals and dream when I face a tough time or make mistakes, I learn from the mistakes and move on as the tough times and mistakes make me a lot stronger.

I will keep working hard towards achieving my dream and I believe that I will become a world class chef one day.

Who in this world does not have a dream? A dream to buy a car, a dream to be a scientist, a dream to do something for the society, or just a dream to live a life with contentment. Something or the other, but surely every person has a dream. It is this dream that drives you to work hard, achieve your milestones and ride towards success in your life. Success need not be becoming the wealthiest person on the earth. Achieving even your smallest dream can be a huge success for you. Since childhood, you come across various fields which often you think of as your ultimate targets. However, most of them are just fantasies and fade away with time. Still, there are some things which just stick on to your minds and these very things eventually go on to be your dreams.

My Dream – My Passion:

Like others, even I have a dream. My dream is to join the intelligence unit of the country and serve my country with pride. Usually, in order to serve the country, people think of joining the armed forces. However, I have a different point of view. I dream to join the intelligence unit and provide inputs to these armed forces so that they can protect the country in a good way and not many lives are lost fight battles with our neighbours.

Where did it all start?

Since my childhood, I have been fascinated by the role of intelligence and the methods of work they are used to. I had got a chance to be with a couple of people early in my life who were in the same field and it is from here that I got so much stuck up with this profession that I have dreamt day and night to be a part of this elite team. Moreover, I feel that I have it in me to research about things as well as people and am known in my circles to extract information from nowhere. I feel that this talent of mine can prove helpful for the country as well. Intelligence plays a crucial role in the security establishment of the country. The inputs gathered from intelligence units help the government and the forces to plan their steps both at diplomatic and at the level of securing the borders.

Another thing which excites me about this dream is that it is not a conventional field such as common occupations which are sought after by most of the youth of our country. Another very important thing to mention here that you need not formally join the intelligence to realise this dream. By keeping a check on your surroundings and providing proper information to the police in case you notice an unfavourable incident is also a form of your contribution to the security agencies of the country. If everyone remains active, a lot many incidents such as terrorist attacks can be averted.

Why having a dream is so important?

Dreams are very important for everyone. Without dreams, there will be no desire to pursue. There will be no objective to reach. We will all be nothing without dreams. Not having dreams resembles pursuing a traceless homicide. It resembles following an undetectable shadow. It is a loathsome goose pursue. We should comprehend what we need to do and pursue that desire.

A great many people have dreams. Successful ones or little ones. Indeed, even the best individuals had dreams and that is the thing that has made them what they are today. Envisioning is basic for a person. Without dreams, you will lose enthusiasm forever lastly prefer not to live. You will be exhausted and tired of the equivalent dull schedules of your everyday life and won’t discover an enthusiasm for the most energizing things. Just with dreams, will you discover a reason to carry on with your life? You will begin buckling down towards the fantasy and will never lose enthusiasm forever. You will never tire and dependably be spurred. This is the most ideal approach to end up effective. So, dream and dream big. It is the only way to achieve contentment in life.

Be that as it may, with dreams, comes extraordinary duty. It is not just sufficient to dream and disregard that fantasy. Numerous individuals dream, however just some wake up and work for it.

It is basic to buckle down for your fantasies. Without this diligent work, a fantasy will just remain a craving in the subliminal personality and will never be accomplished.

On the off chance that you don’t have a fantasy, you can never appreciate the extravagances of life or all that life brings to the table. You will never feel that delighted sentiment of accomplishment. You will never get pride in what you do and what you have accomplished. Every one of these things is vital for people and without these emotions, there is no inspiration.

In the event that you don’t have inspiration, you will be a disappointment throughout everyday life. You won’t have the capacity to accomplish those objectives and will have a hopeless existence. You will never appreciate the extravagances of life and you will never feel glad. You will be a disappointment and you will be nothing throughout everyday life. We should go that additional mile to achieve our objectives. Disappointments may come, however a state of mind to continue proceeding onward and attempting to enhance is completely accomplished by dreams. Dreams are the fuel that continues invigorating you to go further. Regardless of whether there are numerous snags throughout everyday life, you will, in general, continue moving further and attempting to be superior to anything your identity. Consistent and endless enhancement is extremely imperative in advancing throughout everyday life. It improves your identity and furthermore whatever you need to advance in. It causes you to gain from your missteps

Only having career objectives and succeeding professionally can disregard you after one point throughout everyday life. Work as constantly to accomplish these as you do to understand your ultimate dreams. Having a dream is not important. What is important is striving continuously to achieving it. The sense of satisfaction you acquire once you have attained your goals cannot be explained in words and has no alternative in life. So, strive hard and live your dreams. Who knows, what is there in store for you?

my dream businessman essay

I reviewed my Yale admissions file to see what the Ivy League school really thought about my application. What I learned surprised me.

  • I reviewed my Yale admissions file to see what the Ivy League school thought about my application.
  • Most of my scores weren't that impressive, but they really liked my genuine attitude and excitement.
  • Reviewing my application reminded me how far I have come as a student.

Insider Today

"Brian spoke so fast it was electrifying."

This was the first quote from my Yale interviewer. She wrote those words in my admissions file, a document I finally got my hands on three years after being accepted into Yale University .

I remember that interview like it was yesterday. It was a Zoom call — my application cycle happened at the crux of pandemic remote learning — and I was wearing my father's old, oversize dress shirt. The interviewer was lovely. Some of my answers to her questions probably didn't make sense, and she was right. I definitely forgot to breathe in between my sentences.

But viewing my admissions file years later gave me a peek into what my interviewer was actually thinking that day, and I learned what really got me into Yale.

I reviewed my application as a junior with the registrar

Every student in the US can review their college admissions file under the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act. I emailed my university registrar, and within 45 days, a member of their support staff reached back out to schedule a virtual meeting. Picture-taking and recording were not allowed, so I jotted notes by hand.

There was very little verbal interaction between me and the staff member. She screen-shared my admissions file and let me read in silence. Something told me she understood the emotional weight of this moment for students, and I appreciated that. It is intimidating for any teenager to package their identity into a 650-word common application essay and a questionnaire — but it is arguably even more so to witness retrospectively how everything was judged.

I got a behind-the-scenes look into Yale admissions when they read my application

Each aspect of my application was rated out of nine points. My readers gave me a six for my extracurriculars and for my first teacher recommendation. They gave me a seven for my second teacher recommendation and my counselor's recommendation. I received an "outstanding" for my interview and a 2++ for my overall rating. The overall rating is given on a scale from 1 to 4, with 1 being the highest, and pluses were a good sign.

Related stories

In all, my ratings weren't exactly bad, but they weren't extraordinary either. The numbers on the pages stared back at me — cold, formulaic, and transactional. It felt strange to be reduced to a system of numbers, knowing that something as qualitative as extracurricular activities could still be broken down and scored.

Beyond the ratings, however, what truly stood out were the comments left by the admissions officers . Many of the comments were on my character, my essays, and the possible contributions I would make as a student.

"I teared up reading Essay 1," one reader wrote of my common application essay. Another said of the same essay: "His Chinese New Years are untraditional in that they remind him of his family's financial struggles."

I got emotional. All the memories of writing that essay came flooding back. I remembered how difficult it was to start it. I knew there was no easy way for someone to understand me without first knowing my background. I wanted to prove that I deserved a seat at the table where legacy students and the wealthy continue to outnumber their first-generation, low-income peers like myself.

I kept reading and found more comments from admissions officers that moved me: "He treats his mom well;" "He seems to have a truly good heart;" "One of the most intelligent, sincere, jovial students ever met;" "I have no doubt that Brian would push his peers at Yale to stand up for what's right;" and "I come away with compelling impressions that the student would contribute significantly to the undergrad community."

I searched for a negative comment. There were none.

I didn't deserve this, I muttered under my breath. Here I was, a junior in college, no longer a 4.0 student , my post-grad plans murky, balancing two part-time jobs and hoping to make it out of midterms alive. It felt good knowing that someone had rooted for me to be here.

The process reminded me how far I have come

Coming from an underserved household where no one had gone to college, I had always looked at the Ivy League application process skeptically.

Without the resources to enroll in SAT test prep and the financial safety net to pursue unpaid leadership positions and resume-boosting activities at school, I had doubted the "holistic" admissions process many colleges boast. My critiques about Yale remain numerous.

But at least in their comments, the admissions committee gave me grace in that they reviewed my application in light of my circumstances. I might never know exactly what happened in that reading room. Still, a couple of lessons ring true, based on my own viewing experience and my conversations with others who had done the same: Good character and potential are the key; I didn't need to be perfect.

And finally, I — not anyone else — needed to give me the fighting chance of applying in the first place.

"GPA is outstanding, especially in context," an admissions officer said. "This is a home run."

F.A.A. Investigates Claims by Boeing Whistle-Blower About Flaws in 787 Dreamliner

The whistle-blower, an engineer, says that sections of the plane’s body are being assembled in a way that could weaken the aircraft over time. Boeing says there is no safety issue.

A wide frame of inside a Boeing 787 Dreamliner. An employee is seen in the background wheeling a metal cart and is wearing a reflective construction vest.

By Mark Walker and James Glanz

Mark Walker reported from Washington, and James Glanz from New York.

The Federal Aviation Administration is investigating claims made by a Boeing engineer who says that sections of the fuselage of the 787 Dreamliner are improperly fastened together and could break apart mid-flight after thousands of trips.

The engineer, Sam Salehpour, who worked on the plane, detailed his allegations in interviews with The New York Times and in documents sent to the F.A.A. A spokesman for the agency confirmed that it was investigating the allegations but declined to comment on them.

Mr. Salehpour, who has worked at Boeing for more than a decade, said the problems stemmed from changes in how the enormous sections were fitted and fastened together in the assembly line. The plane’s fuselage comes in several pieces, all from different manufacturers, and they are not exactly the same shape where they fit together, he said.

Boeing conceded those manufacturing changes were made, but a spokesman for the company, Paul Lewis, said there was “no impact on durability or safe longevity of the airframe.”

Mr. Lewis said Boeing had done extensive testing on the Dreamliner and “determined that this is not an immediate safety of flight issue.”

“Our engineers are completing complex analysis to determine if there may be a long-term fatigue concern for the fleet in any area of the airplane,” Mr. Lewis said. “This would not become an issue for the in-service fleet for many years to come, if ever, and we are not rushing the team so that we can ensure that analysis is comprehensive.”

In a subsequent statement, Boeing said it was “fully confident in the 787 Dreamliner,” adding that “these claims about the structural integrity of the 787 are inaccurate and do not represent the comprehensive work Boeing has done to ensure the quality and long-term safety of the aircraft.”

Mr. Salehpour’s allegations add another element to the intense scrutiny that Boeing has been facing since a door panel blew off a 737 Max jet during an Alaska Airlines flight in early January, raising questions about the company’s manufacturing practices . Since then, the plane maker has announced a leadership overhaul , and the Justice Department has begun a criminal investigation .

Mr. Salehpour’s concerns are set to receive an airing on Capitol Hill. Senator Richard Blumenthal, Democrat of Connecticut and the chairman of the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee’s investigations subcommittee, is planning to hold a hearing with Mr. Salehpour on April 17. Mr. Blumenthal said he wanted the public to hear from the engineer firsthand.

“Repeated, shocking allegations about Boeing’s manufacturing failings point to an appalling absence of safety culture and practices — where profit is prioritized over everything else,” Mr. Blumenthal said in a statement.

The Dreamliner is a wide-body jet that is more fuel efficient than many other aircraft used for long trips, in part because of its lightweight composite construction. First delivered in 2011, the twin-aisle plane has both racked up orders for Boeing and created headaches for the company .

For years, the plane maker has dealt with a succession of issues involving the jet, including battery problems that led to the temporary grounding of 787s around the world and quality concerns that more recently caused an extended halt in deliveries .

Boeing has also confronted a slew of problems at its plant in South Carolina where the Dreamliner is built. A prominent Boeing whistle-blower who raised concerns about manufacturing practices at the plant, John Barnett, was found dead last month with what appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

The Dreamliner was a pioneer in using large amounts of so-called composite materials rather than traditional metal to build the plane, including major sections like the fuselage, as the aircraft’s body is known. Often made by combining materials like carbon and glass fibers, composites are lighter than metals but, as comparatively newer materials, less is known about how they hold up to the long-term stresses of flight. Those stresses create what engineers call fatigue, which can compromise safety if it causes the material to fail.

Mr. Salehpour said he was repeatedly retaliated against for raising concerns about shortcuts he believed that Boeing was taking in joining together the pieces of the Dreamliner’s fuselage.

Debra S. Katz, a lawyer for Mr. Salehpour, said that her client raised his concerns with supervisors and tried to discuss them in safety meetings, but that company officials did not listen. Instead, she said that Mr. Salehpour was silenced and transferred to work on another wide-body aircraft, the 777. Mr. Salehpour said that after his transfer, he found additional problems with how Boeing was assembling the fuselage of the 777.

“This is the culture that Boeing has allowed to exist,” Ms. Katz said. “This is a culture that prioritizes production of planes and pushes them off the line even when there are serious concerns about the structural integrity of those planes and their production process.”

In its statement, Boeing said that it encouraged its workers “to speak up when issues arise” and that retaliation was “strictly prohibited.”

The F.A.A. interviewed Mr. Salehpour on Friday, Ms. Katz said. In response to questions about the Dreamliner, Mike Whitaker, the agency’s administrator, reiterated that the regulator was taking a hard line against the Boeing after the Alaska Airlines episode.

“This won’t be back to business as usual for Boeing,” Mr. Whitaker said in a statement. “They must commit to real and profound improvements. Making foundational change will require a sustained effort from Boeing’s leadership, and we are going to hold them accountable every step of the way.”

Mr. Salehpour said the shortcuts that he believed Boeing was taking resulted in excessive force being applied to narrow unwanted gaps in the assembly connecting pieces of the Dreamliner’s fuselage. He said that force led to deformation in the composite material, which he said could increase the effects of fatigue and lead to premature failure of the composite.

John Cox, a former airline pilot who runs a safety consulting firm, said that while composites were more tolerant of excess force than metals, it was harder to see that composites had been stressed to the point that they would fail. “They just snap,” he said.

“The catastrophic in-flight breakup, yes, that’s a theoretical possibility,” Mr. Cox said. “That’s why you’d want to have the testing done to preclude that.”

Boeing’s tests are an appropriate step, Mr. Cox said, because “if the degradation goes far enough, that could potentially lead to a catastrophic failure.”

Kitty Bennett contributed research.
