Management Information Systems (MIS) sometimes referred to as Information Management and Systems, is the discipline covering the application of people, technologies, and procedures collectively called information systems to solving business problems.

Information management is the process whereby data are collected and analyzed for the purpose of planning, evaluating, and monitoring systems.

A Management Information System (MIS) is an integrated user-machine system for providing information to support operations, management and decision making functions in an organization. The system utilizes computers, manual procedures, models for analysis, planning, control and decision-making, and a database.

Organisations have always had some kind of management information system, even if it was not recognised as such. In the past, these systems were of a highly informal nature in their setup and utilisation. Not until the advent of computers, with their ability to process and condense large quantities of data, did the design of MIS become a formal process and field of study.

When computers were first introduced into organisations, they were used mainly to process data for a few organisational functions—usually accounting and billing. As the speed and ease of processing data grew, other data processing and information management tasks were computerized. The growth of EDP departments spurred managers to plan their organisation information systems more rationally.

These efforts led to the emergence of the concept of computer-based information systems (CBIS), which became better known as computer based MIS-or simply MIS. Recent advances in computers have made it possible for EDP/MIS experts, and then for managers, to gain on-line or real-time access to the data bases in CBISs.

The near future will witness the widespread use of expert systems using artificial intelligence to diagnose problems, recommend strategies to avert or solve these problems, offer a rationale for these recommendations, and learn from each experience. In effect, the expert system acts like a human expert in analyzing unstructured situations.

The Concept of Management Information Systems (MIS) originated in the 1960s and contains three individual concepts namely management, information and system.

Management:

It is the essential part of any group activity. An organization cannot survive without management. Management is defined as the art of getting things done through others. The basic functions, which a manager performs in an organization are planning, organizing, staffing, directing and controlling. Decision-making is a major requirement of each of these managerial functions.

Information:

Information is the central concept of MIS. Information consists of data that have been processed and are meaningful to a user. Information is something which management expects to know at a given time. Information includes knowledge acquired by some means.

The information is needed to plan, organize, direct and control the business. The effectiveness of any information is dependent on the timing and the content of the information presented and management action. The need for management information is felt when the managers have to make decisions.

A system may be defined as a set of elements, which are joined together to achieve a common objective. A system includes an orderly arrangement according to some common principles or rules. A system is a plan or method of doing something. The elements of a system are input, process and output as shown in Fig. 16.2.

Elements of a System

For example in any manufacturing organization, the input to the system is raw material, which is processed by various processing facilities to convert it into finished product which is output of the system. When feedback and control elements are attached to any system, to make itself regulating and self-monitoring, it is known as cybernetic system as shown in Fig. 16.3.

Thus from the above three components of management i.e., management, information and system, it has been found that decision making is the essence of management and for taking decisions information is an essential and vital input. Further to obtain information, there is need of information system. Thus MIS is a system that allows managers to make decisions for the successful operation of businesses.

Essay # 4. Need for MIS :

A majority of workers today are knowledge workers. They spend their time by creating, distributing, or using information. For example bankers, coordinators, counselors, community organizers, programmers etc. Some examples of MIS includes airline reservations (seat, booking, payment, schedules, boarding list, special needs, etc.), train reservation, bank operations (deposit, transfer, withdrawal) etc.

The need for management information system arises because of the following reasons:

a. About 80% of an executive’s time is devoted to information receiving, communicating, and using it.

b. Information is the basis for virtually all activities performed in an organization

c. People and information are the two key ingredients that are best used in the organizations.

d. Effective utilization of information systems in management.

e. Productive use of information.

f. Information is a resource to increase efficiency, effectiveness and competitiveness of an enterprise.

g. Support of its business process and operations.

h. Support of decision-making by its employees and managers.

Essay # 5. Types of Management Information Systems :

(i) Transaction-Processing Systems.

(ii) Operations Information Systems.

(iii) Decision Support Systems (DSS).

(iv) Expert Systems and Artificial Intelligence.

(i) Transaction-Processing Systems :

Transaction-processing systems are designed to handle a large volume of routine, recurring transactions. They were first introduced in the 1960s with the advent of mainframe computers. Transaction-processing systems are used widely today. Banks use them to record deposits and payments into accounts. Supermarkets use them to record sales and track inventory. Managers often use these systems to deal with such tasks as payroll, customer billing and payments to suppliers.

(ii) Operations Information Systems :

Operations information systems were introduced after transaction-processing systems. An operations information system gathers comprehensive data, organizes it and summarizes it in a form that is useful for managers. These types of systems access data from a transaction-processing system and organize it into a usable form. Managers use operations information systems to obtain sales, inventory, accounting and other performance-related information.

Operations information systems are of following types:

a. Accounting Management Information Systems.

b. Financial Management Information Systems.

c. Manufacturing Management Information Systems.

d. Marketing Management Information Systems.

e. Human Management Information Systems.

(a) Accounting Management Information Systems:

In these types of systems, all accounting reports are shared by all levels of accounting managers.

(b) Financial Management Information Systems:

The financial management information system provides financial information to all financial managers within an organization including the chief financial officer. The chief financial officer analyzes historical and current financial activity; projects future financial needs, and monitors and controls the use of funds over time using the information developed by the MIS department.

(c) Manufacturing Management Information Systems:

A manufacturing management information system provides manufacturing information to the different levels of management regarding inventory levels, production processes, rejections etc.

(d) Marketing Management Information Systems:

A marketing management information system supports managerial activity in the area of product development, distribution, pricing decisions, promotional effectiveness, and sales forecasting.

(e) Human Management Information Systems:

Human resources management information systems are concerned with activities related to workers, managers, and other individuals employed by the organization. Because the personnel function relates to all other areas in business, the human resources management information system plays a valuable role in ensuring organizational success. Activities performed by the human resources management information systems include, work-force analysis and planning, hiring, training, and job assignments.

(iii) Decision Support Systems (DSS) :

A DSS is an interactive computer system that can be used by managers without help from computer specialists. A DSS provides managers with the nec­essary information to make informed decisions.

A DSS has three fundamental components:

a. Database Management System (DBMS):

Database Management System (DBMS), which stores large amounts of data relevant to problems the DSS has been designed to tackle;

b. Model-Based Management System (MBMS):

Model-Based Management System (MBMS) which transforms data from the DBMS into informa­tion that is useful in decision-making; and

c. Dialog Generation and Management Sys­tem (DGMS):

Dialog Generation and Management System (DGMS) which provides a user-friendly interface between the system and the managers who do not have extensive computer training.

(iv) Expert Systems and Artificial Intelligence :

Expert systems and artificial intelligence use human knowledge captured in a computer to solve problems that ordinarily need human expertise. Mimicking human expertise and intelligence requires the computer to do the following: recognize, formulate and solve a problem; explain solutions; and learn from experience.

These systems explain the logic of their advice to the user; hence, in addition to solving problems they also can serve as a teacher. They use flexible thinking processes and can accommodate new knowledge.

Essay # 6. Steps for Development of MIS :

The development of MIS consists of the following stages/steps:

(i) Establish the Need for System:

The need for a system often exists but it is not acted upon until the conditions become intolerable. For example need for information system in a manufacturing organization is because of excessive inventories, high production costs, poor delivery performance, large number of rejections etc.

(ii) Conduct a Feasibility Study:

After establishing the need of the system, next step is to conduct a feasibility study. The feasibility study is undertaken to know the usefulness of the system to the organization. Technical and economical feasibility of the proposed system is carried out.

Technical feasibility considers things such as development of hardware and software capable of meeting the needs of the proposed system. Economic feasibility considers things such as evaluation of costs and returns to know whether the returns justify the investment in the system.

(iii) Obtain Management Approval:

After conducting the feasibility study, the next step is to take approval from the top management for development of the proposed system.

(iv) System Analysis:

Analysis is a detailed study of various operations of a system, along with its boundaries. This step involved detailed study of the information needs of the organization and its end users, existing and expecting information systems.

(v) System Design:

System design refers to the technical specifications that will be implied in constructing the system.

(vi) System Construction and Testing :

The next step after design is the construction and testing of the system. The construction involves physical creation of the system. The system analyst test the system to check its working as per the expectations or not. He corrects the flaws in the system if any.

(vii) System Implementation :

Implementation is the most crucial phase of the development process because this step is very important in assuring the success of any new developed system. This step involves hardware and software acquisition, site preparation, user training and installation of the system.

(viii) System Evaluation :

After the system has been operating smoothly for a short period of time, an evaluation of each step in the design and of the final system performance is made. This is a feedback about the system.

(ix) System Maintenance :

The last step is the maintenance of the installed system. It involves the monitoring, evaluating and modifying a system to make necessary improvements. The maintenance of the system is done to reduce the errors due to design, or environmental changes.

The overall purpose of MIS is to provide profitability and related information to help managers and staff understands business performance and plans its future direction.

The importance of MIS can be seen from the following points:

a. MIS is always management oriented and keeps in view every level of management and gets the desired information.

b. MIS is useful for planning as every organization makes log-term and short-term plans with the help of information like sales and production, capital investments, stocks etc.

c. Effective MIS helps the management to know deviations of actual performance from preset targets and control things.

d. MIS is important for increasing efficiency.

e. MIS provides updated results of various departments to management.

f. MIS is highly computerized so it provides accurate results.

g. MIS adds to the intelligence, alertness, and awareness of managers by providing them information in the form of progress and review reports of an on-going activity.

h. MIS helps managers in decision-making.

An MIS provides the following advantages:

a. It facilitates planning i.e., MIS improves the quality of plans by providing relevant information for sound decision making.

b. It helps in efficient management of large volumes of information and records.

c. MIS helps in measuring performance and making necessary changes in the organizational plans and procedures.

d. It brings co-ordination i.e., MIS facilities integration of specialized activities by keeping each department aware of the problem and requirements of other departments.

e. It makes control easier i.e., MIS serves as a link between managerial planning and control. It improves the ability of management to evaluate and improve performance.

f. MIS assembles, process, stores, retrieves, evaluates and disseminates the information.

Essay # 9. Limitations of MIS :

Though management information systems are becoming increasing beneficial, there are certain limitations to these systems:

a. MIS leads to unemployment as humans are replaced by systems.

b. MIS systems are expensive to install and maintain.

c. These systems cost more and require more time than estimated.

d. Once installed, these systems become difficult and expensive to improve with changing management objectives.

e. The problems of accuracy and reliability become critical, as the organization becomes more dependent on these systems.

MIS Meaning : A management information system is an acronym of three words, viz., Management, information, system. In order to fully understand the term MIS, let us try to understand these three words.

  • Management : Management is the art of getting things done through and with the people in formally organised groups.
  • Information : Information is data that is processed and is presented in a form which assists decision-making. It may contain an element of surprise, reduce uncertainty or provoke a manager to initiate an action.
  • System : A system is an orderly grouping of interdependent components linked together according to a plan to achieve a specific goal. The term system is the most loosely held term in management literature because of its use in different contexts.

Components of MIS

The major components of MIS are:

  • Software Resources : It includes all sets of information processing instruction.
  • Hardware Resources : Include all physical devices and materials used in information processing.

What is MIS objective: MIS has five major objectives which include:

MIS capture data from various internal and external sources of the organization. Data capturing may be manual or through computer terminals.

The captured data is processed to convert into the required information. Processing of data is done by such activities as calculating, sorting, classifying, and summarizing.

Storage of Information

MIS stores the processed or unprocessed data for future use. If any information is not immediately required, it is saved as an organization record, for later use.

Retrieval of Information

MIS retrieves information from its stores as and when required by various users.

Dissemination of Information

Information, which is a finished product of MIS, is disseminated to the users in the organization. It is periodic or online through a computer terminal.

Characteristics of MIS

What is MIS Characteristic? MIS plays a very important role in every aspect of an organization. These characteristics are generic in nature. 

Following are the characteristics of MIS :

System Approach

Management oriented, exception based, future oriented, long term planning, sub-system concept, central database.

Characteristics of MIS

The information system follows a System’s approach. The system’s approach implies a holistic approach to the study of system and its performance in the light for the objective for which it has been constituted.

The top-down approach must be followed while designing the MIS. The top-down approach suggests that the system development starts from the determination of management needs and overall business objectives.

The MIS development plan should be derived from the overall business plan. Management oriented characteristic of MIS also implies that the management actively directs the system development efforts.

MIS design and development should be as per the information needs of managers at different levels, strategic planning level, management control level and operational control level. In other words, MIS should cater to the specific needs of managers in an organization’s hierarchy.

MIS should be developed on the exception-based reporting principle, which means an abnormal situation, i.e. the maximum; minimum or expected values vary beyond tolerance limits. In such situations, there should BE exception reporting to the decision-maker at the required level.

Besides exception-based reporting, MIS should also look at the future. In other words, MIS should not merely provide past or historical information; rather it should provide information, on the basis of projections based on which actions may be initiated.

Integration is a necessary characteristic of a management information system. Integration is significant because of its ability to produce more meaningful information.

For example, in order to develop an effective production scheduling system, it is necessary to balance such factors as setup costs, Workforce, Overtime rates, Production capacity, Inventory level, Capital requirements and Customer services.

MIS is developed over relatively long periods. Such a system does not develop overnight. A heavy element of planning is involved. The MIS designer must have the future objectives and needs of the company in mind.

The process of MIS development is quite complex and one is likely to lose insight frequently. Thus, the system, though viewed as a single entity, must be broken down into digestible sub-systems which are more meaningful at the planning stage.

A central database is a mortar that holds the functional systems together. Each system requires access to the master file of data covering inventory, personnel, vendors, customers, etc. It seems logical to gather data once, validate it properly and place it on a central storage medium, which can be accessed by any other subsystem.

Functions of MIS

The broad functions of MIS are as follows:

The Management Information System (MIS) furnishes relevant information on diverse matters, thereby enhancing the decision-making prowess of the management. By utilizing the speedy and precise data provided by the MIS, managers can make prompt and informed decisions, which ultimately enhances the quality of decision-making and contributes to the company’s value.

The Management Information System (MIS) facilitates managers in executing their duties with enhanced ease and efficiency, resulting in improved productivity.

The MIS provides managers with better connectivity with the rest of the organization.

The Management Information System (MIS) is commonly utilized in decision-making processes within a system. One such application of MIS is to identify issues that require prompt attention, offer timely feedback, and inform senior management of the current progress and areas for improvement.

Therefore, the main functions of MIS may vary depending on the specific tasks performed by an organization.

Data processing involves collecting, transmitting, storing, and processing data to generate an output. Prediction involves analyzing data using modern mathematics, statistics, or simulation to anticipate future scenarios.

By utilizing methods of modern mathematics, statistics, or simulation, data analysis is conducted to predict potential future scenarios.

The analysis of data of a regular nature may give many indications on likely future events or situations and this can be utilized in planning or reviewing the plan already made earlier.

By examining records of daily, monthly, quarterly, or annual activities, certain factors that require management and control can be identified. If these factors are identified in a timely manner, they can be managed relatively easily. However, some factors may require the attention of senior management to remain under control. It is essential to note that ignoring smaller factors at the beginning may have the potential to disrupt other factors as well.

One of the principal functions of MIS is to support senior management by analyzing regular records and drawing inferences about various factors related to the company’s operational performance, such as human resources, financial resources, material resources, and more.

Advantage of MIS

Generate competitive advantages, implementation of management by objectives techniques, fast reaction to market changes, mis as strategic resource, change in industry structure, functional use, external and internal change, availability of customer data.

Business houses succeed or fail based on how they face competitive challenges. MIS if implemented properly, provides a wealth of information to allow management to construct and develop effective plans to meet, and beat, their competition.

MIS allow all participants, both management and staff, to view, analyse and interpret useful data to set goals and objectives.

MIS can deliver facts, data and trends to business with lighting speed. Having this information allows business houses to react quickly to market changes, regardless of the type (positive or negative) or volatility.

  • MIS helps in taking strategic, tactical and operational decisions. It is one of the critical and important resource.
  • It helps the management to understand cost, quality, price, technology, productivity and product.
  • It helps to smoothen the business process and thereby facilitate managing of business operations.
  • It helps to maintain the business standards like ISO, QS, CMMI, six sigma etc.
  • It helps to be a head in the competition.
  • It helps company in analysing their own SWOT.
  • It also helps in maintaining its own profitability.
  • It will help in taking new business decisions like new plans, new product, new business line etc.
  • It protects company from business cycles.
  • It provides future direction to the organisations.

MIS helps in changes in industry structure includes five forces:

  • Threats of new entrant in market

Functional use of MIS includes:

  • Lower the cost
  • Information and information system facilitate value chain. e.g. product delivery quality. It increases the speed, accuracy and timeliness of the organisation. It helps in simplifying the business processes. It helps organisation in meeting the standards and benchmarks.

MIS creating knowledge is an asset. It helps to achieve change in work life style for better results. MIS has made the world smaller. Worldwide reorganisation environment and attempt to control the calamity. Health conscious among the group lead to less sufferings.

MIS helps in Internal Change: MIS will change the business process, MIS will change the old standards and set new standards. MIS is a key for continuous improvement process. MIS will reduce the hierarchy and hence less operation cost. MIS focuses on “shared information”. MIS also measures the result and performance.

MIS giving an overall picture of the company and acting as a communication and planning tool. The availability of the customer data and feedback can help the business houses to align their business process according to the need of the customers.

The effective management of customer data can help the company to perform direct marketing and promotion activities. Therefore, information is considered to be an important asset for any company in the modern competitive world.

Role of MIS

Management Information System (MIS) plays a significant role in the decision-making process of any organization. In any organization, a decision is made on the basis of relevant information which can be retrieved from the MIS.

Coordination among the department

Management Information System satisfy multiple need of an organization across the different functional department.

As we know that MIS provides relevant information about every aspect of activities. Hence, if any mistake is made by the management then MIS, information will help in finding out the solution to that problem.

MIS store all past data and information in its Database. That why the management information system is very useful to compare business organization performance.

Today each business is running in a competitive market. An MIS supports the organization to evolve appropriate strategies for the business to assent in a competitive environment.

Challenges of MIS

What is MIS Challenges: There are three major challenges of MIS : high cost, training of employees and maintenance cost. These are briefly discussed below:

Training of Employee

Maintenance cost.

Development of new computerized based information system is a problem for the organization due to the cost factor and it creates problems because with the change of time there is need of up-to-date of the information system.

Employees should have the capacity of learning of the information system with the changing competitive and business environment; otherwise it will be difficult for the organization to stay in the market.

Sometimes a problem arises due to server crash and website crash. Sometimes it leads to the loss of information. So, maintenance cost is needed to tackle the above problem.

Limitations of MIS

Even though MIS has many benefits but it also has its limitations. Limitations of MIS are discussed below:

  • While MIS may solve some critical problems but it is not a solution to all problems of an organization.
  • It cannot meet the special demands of each person.
  • MIS if designed in an improper manner does not serve the management and hence is of little relevance.
  • The MIS is not good if the basic data is obsolete and outdated.
  • Mostly information provided by the MIS is in quantitive form. Hence, it ignores the qualitative information like the attitude of an employee.

MIS at Different Levels

The needs of managers at various levels in the organization are different. Some need information that is real-time and detailed while others need information that is aggregated and covers a long period.

Those at the highest level of any organization, such as Managing Directors and Chief Executives, usually need information that is aggregated, enables drilling down, summarises all activities, and provides details about the industry at large. MIS that provide reports for executives at this level is often called executive support systems (ESS).

An example of a typical screen of an ESS is shown Some examples of information provided by such systems are:

  • A report on sales forecasts for all products, plotted against the forecasts for the entire industry.
  • A summary of cash balances for all divisions for the year, the month, and the week, with the ability to drill down to details for all divisions.
  • A summary of completion of all projects, with details of work remaining, estimated overruns on time, and cost with comparison figures of projects in the past.

Executive support systems are usually highly visual with graphs, charts, and diagrams used to convey most of the information. While designing these systems, the designers must understand the style of functioning of the executive. ESS is usually linked to other MIS and transaction processing systems and databases that provide industry data.

Managers in the organization, who report to the executives, use MIS and require reports, examples of which have been provided above. The systems used by managers are usually categorized as either MIS or Decision Support Systems. The latter use scientific models of decision-making to help managers in the specific tasks of making decisions based on available data.

Another class of employees, similar to managers but not directly involved with decision-making, are the specialized knowledge workers such as designers, planners, and analysts. They use transaction data and other data related to the industry and economy to make strategic-level plans and do analyses for the organization. They too use sophisticated models of analysis and produce reports that assist executives and managers with their decision-making.

For example, strategic planners may consult the industry and economy data and compare this with internal sales data to predict which products of the organization will have a better chance of success in the competitive environment. Models such as time series analysis and forecasting may be used to arrive at such analysis.

Information is the backbone of any organisation. It is the most critical resource of the organisation.

It is the indispensable link that ties together all the components of an organisation for better operation and co-ordination and four survivals in today’s brutally competitive environment.

To succeed in this environment, one must manage the future. Managing the future means managing information.

In this century of information explosion, where people are bombarded with data, getting the right information, in the right amount at the right time is not an easy job. So, only those organisations that have succeeded in managing information will survive. As Joseph Gobbles rightly said “He who runs the information runs the show.”

Information is knowledge that one derives from facts placed in the right context with the purpose of reducing uncertainty. From a manager’s point of view, information serves the purpose of reducing uncertainty regarding the alternative courses of action, in the process of decision making.

Availability of information regarding the alternatives improves the probability in favour of making a correct decision. Information is recognized as one of the most important corporate resources. It is a source of a competitive strength as it enables the maneuver to out maneuver its business rivals at critical stages.

Information involves the communication and reception of intelligence or knowledge. It appraises and notifies surprises and stimulates, reduces uncertainty, reveals additional alternatives or helps in eliminating irrelevant or poor ones, and influence individuals and stimulates them to action.

This is the information needed for long range planning and directing the course business should take. For example, should new branches be opened? should the business be diversified ? For such information one has to obtain information on trend, affect of advertising etc.

(2) Tactical Information:

This type of information is needed to take short-range decisions to run the business efficiently. For example, should credit limits of customer be changed? how much of each item should be stocked ? Tactical information requires specifically designed processing of data. Most of it is obtainable from day to day collection of routine data.

(3) Operational Information:

This type of information is needed for day to day operation of a business organization. For example list of items to be reordered, list of defaulting customers. Operational information is easy to obtain by straightforward clerical processing of data.

In large organizations, it becomes essential to delegate the responsibilities to specialists in each area and make them accountable for their efficient working. Middle level manager reports to the chief executive who is overall in-charge of the organization. The middle level manager in turn will have many assistants who are responsible for specific day-to-day operations. They are known as line managers.

Chief executive, being in charge of overall policy, will require strategic information. The middle level managers require tactical information to perform their functions and line manager being responsible for day-to-day operations would require operational information.

Millions of people around the world will pause on Monday, at least for a moment, to mark Earth Day. It’s an annual event founded by people who hoped to stir activism to clean up and preserve a planet that is now home to some 8 billion humans and assorted trillions of other organisms.

Here are answers to some common questions about Earth Day and how it came to be:

WHY DO WE CELEBRATE EARTH DAY?

Earth Day has its roots in growing concern over pollution in the 1960s, when author Rachel Carson’s 1962 book “Silent Spring,” about the pesticide DDT and its damaging effects on the food chain, hit bestseller lists and raised awareness about nature’s delicate balance.

But it was a senator from Wisconsin, Democrat Gaylord Nelson, who had the idea that would become Earth Day. Nelson had long been concerned about the environment when a massive offshore oil spill sent millions of gallons onto the southern California coast in 1969. Nelson, after touring the spill site, had the idea of doing a national “teach-in” on the environment, similar to teach-ins being held on some college campuses at the time to oppose the war in Vietnam.

Nelson and others, including activist Denis Hayes, worked to expand the idea beyond college campuses, with events all around the country, and came up with the Earth Day name.

WHY WAS APRIL 22 CHOSEN FOR EARTH DAY?

A history of the movement by EarthDay.org, where Hayes remains board chair emeritus, says the date of the first Earth Day — April 22, 1970 — was chosen because it fell on a weekday between spring break and final exams and the aim was to attract as many students as possible.

IS EARTH DAY A REAL HOLIDAY?

It’s not a federal holiday. But many groups use the day to put together volunteer events with the environment in mind, such as cleanups of natural areas. You can see a list of events worldwide , or register your own event, at EarthDay.org.

HAS IT HAD AN IMPACT?

It has. The overwhelming public response to the first Earth Day is credited with adding pressure for the U.S. Congress to do more to address pollution, and it did, passing landmark legislation including the Clean Air Act and Clean Water Act. More broadly, it’s seen as the birth of the modern environmental movement. In later years, Earth Day expanded to become a truly global event. It now claims to have motivated action in more than 192 countries.

In 2000, Earth Day began taking aim at climate change, a problem that has grown rapidly more urgent in recent years.

WHAT’S THE THEME THIS YEAR?

This year’s Earth Day is focusing on the threat that plastics pose to our environment, with a call to end all single-use plastic and find replacements for their use so they can quickly be phased down.
