This meme features the famous playwright alongside a confused student. It perfectly captures the bafflement many students feel when first encountering the world of Shakespearean language.

2.Grading Essays Like a Ninja:

English teachers often feel like ninjas when grading countless essays with their red pens, slicing through each comma splice and misused semi-colon.

3.The Grammar Police:

4.Save the Oxford Comma:

5.”You’re” vs. “Your”:

The ongoing struggle to teach students when to use “you’re” or “your” correctly is portrayed brilliantly in this meme featuring a well-known cartoon character.

6.Teaching Irony:

An image of Alanis Morissette asking, “Isn’t it ironic?” reminds English teachers of their duty to explain what irony actually is (even if it’s not raining on your wedding day).

7.The Homophone Conundrum:

A humorous meme depicting two characters arguing over the difference between “there,” “their,” and “they’re” speaks to the challenge of teaching homophones consistently.

8.Waiting for Inspiration for Lesson Plans

An image of a skeleton waiting on a bench is both darkly hilarious and relatable as you search for creative ideas during a long night before class.

9.When Students Ask About the Point of Poetry:

The timeless question from students has been given meme-status, with the teacher responding on the importance of critical thinking skills.

10.The Perils of Slang:

English teachers understand the struggle of keeping up with ever-changing slang, as showcased in a meme featuring an out-of-touch teacher trying to engage students through hip lingo.

11.”I’m Done Grading!”

A jubilant teacher dancing victoriously after grading countless essays rings true for anyone trying to get through stacks upon stacks of papers.

12.Being a Literary Detective:

Loving literature and noticing every literary reference, symbolism, and foreshadowing sometimes make English teachers feel like Sherlock Holmes.

13.The Power of Proofreading:

An adorable dog wearing glasses reminds students and teachers alike that a careful read-through can make all the difference in their writing.

14.Crying Over Classic Novels:

Every English teacher has had that emotional moment when they reach the end of their favorite classic novel with their class (again).

15.Endless Vocabulary:

When it comes to “Word of The Day,” the fun never stops – just like this meme with an enthusiastic feline sporting a wide grin.

16.No One Left Behind on Reading Assignments:

This meme cleverly emphasizes the importance of keeping up with assigned readings with a character desperately trying to finish a book before class begins.

17.Text Speak Must Perish:

Text shorthand can be the bane of any English teacher’s existence; thus, this meme features one stern teacher demanding, “LOL NEVER AGAIN!”

Conclusion:

These 17 memes perfectly capture the joys and challenges an English teacher experiences daily while shaping young minds and helping them navigate complex language rules and literature. So take a moment to have a laugh with your fellow educators – you’ve earned it!

English Teacher Uses Memes to Grade Papers

grading essays meme

By Suzannah Weiss

Ainee Fatima

It doesn't feel good to get a bad grade on a paper — unless, that is, it's delivered in the form of a funny meme. That's what one teacher in Chicago decided to do when she was less than pleased with her high school English students' work.

"I was just grading and I was really frustrated, and in my head I was just like, I wish my kids could see my face my right now, because the answers they were writing were just incredibly wrong," Ainee Fatima, who teaches a media studies class to high school seniors , told BuzzFeed . "So I was like, let’s print out some memes." She printed out the memes on sticker paper and stuck the stickers on her students' papers.

"I was a student who was a victim to the 'red marker' grading while in school, and it gave me immense anxiety about receiving my paper back in class," she told Teen Vogue . "I do not use a red marker, and I think the memes offer a lighthearted look at getting a bad grade."

For the papers that elicited frustration, she used the "confused Nick Young" meme — a photo of the baffled-looking NBA athlete surrounded by question marks.

This content can also be viewed on the site it originates from.

Fatima says the sticker was not only fun but also useful for improving her students' work. "It actually pushed students to look at what they got wrong and offer to correct it for a better grade instead of shoving the exam in their bag from embarrassment, which is something I used to do because i didn't want anyone to see the red marks I got," she told Teen Vogue .

For the papers that didn't leave a perplexed look on her face, she created stickers from a Gordon Ramsay meme reading, "Good job. You get a gold star for today."

When Fatima came into class today, her students clapped for her. "They've been emailing me and shouting me out on their social media," she told Teen Vogue . Anyone else think every teacher should adopt this policy? Fortunately, Fatima shared the confused Nick Young stickers in a Google Drive folder for others to print out and surprise their students with.

This Teacher Made Meme Stickers To Grade Papers With And They’re Perfect

Fact: Teens love memes.

Okay, okay, I know what you’re thinking, right?

But no. This is good and pure, and let’s get into this with open hearts.

Ainee Fatima, a high school English teacher in Chicago, was recently grading papers when brilliance struck.

“I was just grading and I was really frustrated, and in my head I was just like, I wish my kids could see my face right now, because the answers they were writing were just incredibly wrong,” Fatima told BuzzFeed News.

“So I was like, let’s print out some memes.”

She did just that, using a regular printer and some sticker sheets.

Fatima tweeted about her new stickers, and it’s since gone viral, with more than 40,000 retweets.

You have to admit, they’re pretty awesome. And her media studies students love them.

“They love memes — they try to bring them up in class any way they can,” she said.

“I handed them back to the kids and immediately they were just laughing everywhere. It took a good couple of minutes to calm them down.”

Students were upset if they hadn’t gotten a sticker on their work.

And yes, they got regular marks, too. The stickers are just some added fun.

The viral tweet even created an opportunity for Fatima to teach her students about social media and what it means to go viral.

ainee f. @axfxq **just a lil info about my class, i teach a "media studies" english class, we literally study/analyze the media & write! Social media, trends, news, politics, music, film...the meme stickers were deff appropriate for my class. 02:01 PM - 18 Oct 2018 Reply Retweet Favorite

“It was a super teaching moment,” she said.

At 27, Fatima is a young teacher, and she knows it can he hard to walk the line between being relatable and being patronizing. Her students are seniors, and they’re a lot more grown up than she remembers being in high school. For example, many of them work long hours outside of class to help support their families.

“These kids are a lot more adult than we think they might be,” she said. “I think teachers tend to forget to treat them like their age.”

Grading systems at schools vary from country to country and some researchers even argue for a rather simple pass or no-pass concept. Check out the English teacher and active twitter user @axfxq , who came up with her very own creative solution and it’s hitting the zeitgeist too well…

1. Ainee Fatima is a English teacher, poet and public speaker from Chicago and this is her new grading system:

I love grading with my new stickers! pic.twitter.com/4K66qQblSJ — aineef (@axfxq) October 17, 2018

2. Creative memes replace simple letters.

Don’t worry, I did positive memes too! 😂 pic.twitter.com/rTfHCGKQwJ — axneef (@axfxq) October 18, 2018

3. Her students really love the new approach.

Update: these were really well received by my kids. Students who normally wouldn’t care actually asked if they could correct their tests for a better grade & had a good laugh esp bc they always show me memes. — axneef (@axfxq) October 18, 2018

4. She also has a very valid reason for leaving the red markers at home.

I refuse to use a red pen while grading! It gave me anxiety as a student to see all those marks on my paper & felt embarrassed to have it out in class. The color matters, the color red sends a message! — aineef (@axfxq) October 18, 2018

5. The Twitter community is digging the innovative method and teachers worldwide want to follow her example.

I can no longer send this through DM, I hit some weird limit! Here’s the link to it 🙂 Enjoy fellow teachers! Here u go! https://t.co/Ad3ImXaQIV — axneef (@axfxq) October 18, 2018

6. Some people had their concerns, but Ainee explains why she stands by the idea.

Will you help me build a time machine, come back to the 70s/80s with me and be my high school teacher? Yes, I know, that’s loaded with paradox, but wish there were more cool teachers like you when I was in teenage hell 😉 pic.twitter.com/5agH1dVwo2 — Angel Puss 🎃💀👻 (@Angel__Puss) October 21, 2018

7. It’s great to see such innovative and creative thinking in classrooms.

The country needs creative teachers whatever it takes to get and keep their attention. You get an A for creativity! — Sheri Quillen (@shedolfan) October 19, 2018

This English Teacher Grading Papers With Memes Makes Us Wonder Where Was This When We Were Kids

We all had that one cool English teacher in school, who would talk our language and it was just so easy to establish a channel of understanding with that one teacher. But, friends, cool teachers’ brigade is getting an update with this high-school teacher, who grades papers with memes.

Scream : Dream teacher or whaa?

According to Metro.co.uk , a 27-year-old Ainee Fatima , a teacher at East Leyden High School, Illinois, US is grading papers with popular memes. She shared some of the papers on Twitter, and we are her fan already.

Ainee told Metro.co.uk , that some of the answers get so ridiculous and funny, that it’s like so important that students could see her reaction when she reads’em.

Precious, this teacher must be protected at all costs.

I love grading with my new stickers! pic.twitter.com/4K66qQblSJ — axneef (@axfxq) October 17, 2018

According to  Metro.co.uk , people have been sending her more memes to add to her collection.

I bet this one would find it’s way into someone’s paper. pic.twitter.com/4h3nqUVO29 — adnan(╯°□°)╯︵ ┻━┻ (@werzadnan) October 19, 2018

She says that the reason behind this innovative approach is twofold. One, it takes pressure off of the students, when they deal with negative grades (We betcha). And secondly, it makes sense, considering it’s a Media Studies English class, where they study popular culture. Hence meme sharing is a regular part of the classroom culture.

We have one question – WHERE DO WE SIGN UP FOR THIS CLASS?

Don’t worry, I did positive memes too! 😂 pic.twitter.com/rTfHCGKQwJ — axneef (@axfxq) October 18, 2018

Her students are undoubtedly happy. She told  Metro.co.uk , that she was a bit concerned as to how would parents react. But as of now, they’re supportive of this light-hearted approach, so it’s all cool.

English and social studies have always been fun and engaging, but this teacher sure knows how to put a cherry on the top.

We grade this teacher 11/10. Ainee, you harbinger of the new era of teaching. All hail.

Perfect/perfect, we say!
