Canva is an incredible online design software that allows you to create many things including stunning presentations.

But if you’re a PowerPoint user you might be wondering how to export your Canva slides as a PowerPoint presentation?

In this article, we’ll take you through the process step by step, including how to keep your animated elements from Canva.

Let’s dive right in.

Jump to a specific section:

Step 1: Download your Canva slides

Step 2: open the .pptx doc in powerpoint, step 3: copy or add animation.

If you haven’t created your presentation in Canva yet – check out these incredible Canva presentation slide templates to get started.

If you have, open up your Canva slides document, and once you’ve made all your updates and you’re happy with it you can now download it.

You can download as a PDF file, or publish it online, or if you want to export it as a PowerPoint presentation (.pptx) you can do that too. Here’s how:

Go to the ‘Share’ button at the top right and click ‘More’:

Scroll down to the ‘Save’ options and choose ‘Microsoft PowerPoint’:

Choose the slides you want to download, and hit the download button:

You will now have a PowerPoint presentation (.pptx) file in your downloads folder that you can open up.

The next step is to check if everything in your presentation was exported from the Canva slides to a PowerPoint presentation correctly.

In the past, elements such as the text fonts, graphs, videos, and some graphics didn’t export correctly but Canva has mostly fixed these issues so your export will likely be completely fine.

It’s worth checking though!

As an example, our .pptx export contained a couple of videos in one of the slides. One of the videos remained in that format:

Whilst the other one was converted into an image element:

Most of the elements will be converted properly but as you can some elements such as animations and videos might not convert correctly.

There is a workaround for this, which we’ll cover in the next step.

To convert Canva slides with animation into PowerPoint presentation slides here’s what you have to do:

First, go back to your Canva presentation, and download the pages with animation as GIFs. Simply, go to ‘Share’ then ‘Download’ and select the page or pages that you want to download:

Then, select GIF as your file type, and hit the download button:

The last step is to add a blank slide in your PowerPoint presentation, upload the downloaded GIF image into that new blank slide and adjust it to cover the PowerPoint page and that’s it!

You’ll now have an animated slide in your PowerPoint presentation.

Adding animations in PowerPoint

You can also simply download the full Canva presentation and convert it to a PowerPoint presentation and then add animations within PowerPoint instead.

Canva’s presentation tool makes it easy to put together a professional and visually engaging slide deck, regardless of your level of expertise. However, at some point, you may need to convert your Canva slides to PowerPoint to accommodate certain requirements, take advantage of more advanced features, or collaborate with others who prefer to work with PowerPoint.

Whatever the case, this article has got you covered. In this comprehensive guide, we'll walk you through the step-by-step process of seamlessly transitioning your Canva presentations to PowerPoint, ensuring that your hard work and creativity are preserved.

After you’ve created the perfect professional presentation in Canva , here is how you can export it as a PowerPoint file. Click the Share button in the top-right corner and select More from the drop-down menu.

Click share and more in Canva

Scroll down the list and click on Microsoft PowerPoint .

You can type PowerPoint in the search bar at the top to quickly find it.

Click PowerPoint in Canva

By default, all the slides in your presentation will be selected to be exported. However, if you only want to export specific slides, click on the drop-down arrow under Select Pages . Disable the check marks beside the slides you don’t want to include, and click Done . Now click Download to export your selected slides.

Select Pages and Download in Canva

In the file explorer window that pops up, choose a location for your file, give it a suitable name, and click Save . Your Canva slide deck will now be downloaded to your computer as a PowerPoint (PPT) file.

This method of exporting your Canva presentation into a PPT file has a few limitations. The fonts you used may change if you don’t already have them on your computer.

In addition, if you’ve applied standard animations or used Canva’s animation tool to create custom animations for certain elements, these elements will be removed in the PPT document. In the next few sections, we’ll walk through how to work around these limitations.

How to Convert Canva Slides to PowerPoint (Without Changing Fonts)

Depending on the fonts you use, your Canva slide deck won’t look the same in PowerPoint if you don’t have those exact fonts saved on your computer. PowerPoint will automatically replace those custom fonts with default fonts.

If you want to still stick with the custom fonts, one way to go about it is to explore the font library in PowerPoint to see if you would find similar-looking fonts.

Another way to go about this is to first find out the name of the font in Canva or use any of the five best sites for identifying fonts online . From here, you can download the fonts to your computer from any of the best free font websites . The process of adding your new fonts to PowerPoint is similar to that of adding new fonts to Microsoft Word .

How to Convert Canva Slides to PowerPoint (With Animations)

If you don’t want to lose all the cool animation you’ve added to your Canva presentation, you’ll have to export them as a GIF. Here’s how.

Click the Share button and select Download from the drop-down menu.

Click share and download in Canva

Ensure GIF is selected under File type. With this method, you’ll have to select one page at a time (under Select pages) to export as a GIF. When you’re done, click Download .

Select GIF, pages, and Download in Canva

In the file explorer window that appears, choose a file location, give it a suitable name, and click Save . Your Canva slide will now be downloaded to your computer as a GIF file.

You have to repeat the same process for each page in your Canva slide deck. If your slides aren’t many, this shouldn't be much of a problem. However, if you’re working with a bunch of slides, this can be a bit tedious.

If you want to maintain the animated elements without the animations, you can go through a similar process but this time around, save your entire slide deck as a PNG file.

Select PNG, all pages, and Download in Canva

This will export each slide as a PNG file and place it in a zipped folder. From here you can extract the files, then drag and drop them into PowerPoint. Compared to exporting each slide as a GIF, this method will save you lots of time.

While the method of exporting your Canva slide deck into a .PPTX file removes animated elements, this method doesn’t let you modify slide elements in PowerPoint since they’re in GIF or PNG format. Keep these limitations in mind as you decide which method you want to use.

Converting Canva Slides to PowerPoint Is Easy

By following the steps outlined in this article, you can seamlessly transition your Canva presentations to PowerPoint, and get the best of both worlds! Whether you're working in Canva or PowerPoint, you can also choose to convert your presentations into videos.

Look for an option that says “Microsoft PowerPoint.” This is your golden ticket to converting your canva slides into a PowerPoint file. Clicking this will prompt you with choices for your download.

Step 5: Select the Pages You Want to Download

If your presentation has multiple pages, Canva gives you the flexibility to choose which ones you want to convert into PowerPoint slides. Don’t need all the pages? After selecting your pages, click on the purple “Done” button. Next, hit the purple “Download” button. This will start the process of converting your canva to PowerPoint.

Be aware that while Canva’s design elements and templates are top-notch, certain dynamic elements like videos, gif files, and animations may not carry over.

You will get a PPT File saved on your desktop, which convert canva designs to powerpoint slides and you can open the same into Microsoft office.

Step 7: Save Your Downloaded Presentation

How to download Canva as PowerPoint (PPT) file in 2 Clicks 14

Once the download initiates, you’ll be asked to give your presentation a name. Choose something descriptive, and click “Save.” Remember, this downloaded file is a pptx file, ready to be opened with Microsoft PowerPoint or any compatible software like WPS Office.

Navigate to where your presentation was downloaded, typically this will be your Downloads folder unless you’ve specified otherwise. Double-click on the file to open it in Microsoft PowerPoint. Here, you’ll see your Canva designs transformed into PowerPoint slides, ready for any final tweaks or necessary edits.

Remember, this seamless experience of converting canva presentations to pptx files is invaluable, but it’s also important to note that while design elements and fonts carry over, animations, videos, and audio will not play in Microsoft PowerPoint. You’ll need to reintegrate these elements in PowerPoint if they’re crucial to your presentation.

Common issues when converting Canva to PowerPoint

There are some common issues that you may encounter when exporting Canva Presentations to PowerPoint.

1. Formatting issues

One of the most common issues when you save Canva to PPI is that the formatting of the slides may change slightly during the conversion process.

This can include changes to the font size, spacing, and alignment.

You might have to make some manual adjustments to ensure the PowerPoint layout looks exactly like it did in Canva.

This can occur when the fonts or images used in the Canva design are unavailable on the computer to open the PowerPoint presentation.

2. Missing fonts

If the fonts you used for your Canva presentation are not in PowerPoint, your presentation may look very off and strange.

So, you need to ensure you use the same fonts in both tools.

If you don’t have the fonts in PowerPoint, you used in Canva, first download the font from Google and upload it to Windows.

Now, remember, Canva has a huge font library with 3000 fonts. It could be possible that to use these fonts in PowerPoint, you might have to buy them at a premium price online.

Unfortunately, if you can’t even buy them online, you won’t be able to use these fonts in your PowerPoint presentation. You might have to stick to using your presentation in Canva.

One workaround could be to use your Canva presentation in Google Slides instead.

3. Loss of image quality

Sometimes, Images that look crisp in Canva may lose their quality when exported to PowerPoint.

To avoid this, make sure to use high-quality images in your Canva design.

Also, ensure that the images are correctly sized and formatted for use in PowerPoint.

4. Loss of effects and animation

Both tools offer animations, but the effects are not always the same. Canva has some very nice animated presentations  which are not there in PowerPoint, for example. So, these may not carry over smoothly during the conversion.

Besides, you could use some GIFs in Canva, which may get flattered during the conversion.

You may plan on doing a presentation for others through PowerPoint, but want to design it nicely in Canva. Then, I would recommend to only creating the design in Canva, but not adding the animations.

Add them in Canva after you download the PPT from Canva.

5. Broken links

If you have any hyperlinks embedded in the Canva design, it may not always carry over into the PowerPoint format.

You might have to reinsert them manually.

Quick tips for converting Canva to PowerPoint

When converting Canva presentations to PowerPoint, there are some best practices you should follow so that your files remain intact and nothing falls apart.

1. Check fonts and images

As mentioned above, ensure all fonts and images used in your Canva design are available on your computer.

If not, download and install them before importing the design to PowerPoint.

2. Edit and resize the presentation

After importing the Canva design to PowerPoint, review the slides and make any necessary edits or resizing to ensure they fit the screen properly.

If the size does not adapt by default, open PowerPoint first and create a document to match the format of Canva exactly.

Then, import the Canva slides into PPT.

3. Keep your presentations simple

While Canva provides a wide range of design elements and templates , it’s important to keep your design simple when converting to PowerPoint.

Simple Canva presentations are easier to save in a PowerPoint format with minimal loss in formatting.

It might be safest to add slide animations and transitions in PowerPoint, for example.

Canva also lets you create talking presentations .

Create some sample presentations first and download them as PowerPoint to check how the formatting works.

4. Test your presentation

Before you present your PowerPoint presentation, test it on different devices and platforms to ensure that it looks the way you want it to.

This will help you to identify any issues that need to be fixed before your presentation.

How to save Canva as ppt without changing fonts

To save a Canva design as a PowerPoint presentation without altering the fonts, use fonts common to both Canva and PowerPoint. If you have used uncommon fonts, you may need to install them on your computer and embed them into your PowerPoint file, provided you have the appropriate licensing rights.

Download your Canva design as a PPT file, then open it in PowerPoint to ensure the fonts have not changed.

Here are some detailed tips on how to save Canva as PPT without changing fonts:

1. Use common fonts

Stick to fonts that are commonly available in both Canva and PowerPoint. Fonts like Arial, Times New Roman, Calibri, and Verdana are usually safe bets.

If you have very aesthetic fonts , especially any premium Canva fonts, those may not display well when you download your Canva design into PowerPoint.

2. Check font licensing

Even before you begin your design in Canva, it is a good idea to verify that the fonts you plan to use are licensed for use in other applications. Some Canva fonts may not be licensed for use outside of Canva and, therefore, could automatically change when you open the design in PowerPoint.

3. Create your design

Design your presentation in Canva , keeping in mind the font considerations.

4. Download as PowerPoint

Once your design is complete, click on the ‘Share’ button in the top right corner of Canva. From the file type options, select ‘Microsoft PowerPoint (.pptx)’.

5. Open and review in PowerPoint

Open your downloaded file in PowerPoint. Check to see if the fonts have remained consistent. If any fonts have changed, it could be because they are not available in PowerPoint or the specific version of PowerPoint you are using does not support those fonts.

6. Embed fonts (if necessary)

If you are using fonts in Canva that are not available in PowerPoint, you may need to download and install those fonts on your computer (if you have the right to do so). Then, you can embed them into your PowerPoint presentation.

To embed fonts in PowerPoint:

  • Click on ‘File’.
  • Select ‘Options’.
  • In the PowerPoint Options dialog box, select ‘Save’.
  • Under Preserve fidelity when sharing this presentation, check the ‘Embed fonts in the file’ option.
  • Choose ‘Embed all characters’ (best for editing by others) or ‘Embed only the characters used in the presentation’ (reduces file size).

Please note that font embedding will increase the file size of your presentation. Additionally, embedding fonts is subject to the font’s licensing permissions. Not all fonts are licensed to be embedded in files.

If you don’t have the rights to a particular font or if it is not available for PowerPoint, consider using a similar PowerPoint-compatible font to maintain the visual aesthetics of your presentation.

Introduction

Welcome to this step-by-step guide on how to download Canva presentations as PowerPoint (PPT) files. Canva is a popular online graphic design tool that allows you to create stunning presentations with its user-friendly interface and extensive library of templates and design elements.

One of the great features of Canva is the ability to download your presentations in various formats, including PDF, image files, and PowerPoint (PPT). This flexibility ensures that you can easily share your presentation with others or use it in different contexts.

In this guide, we will focus specifically on downloading Canva presentations as PowerPoint files. You may need to do this if you want to make further edits to your presentation using Microsoft PowerPoint, or if you need to present your slides in a more traditional format.

Whether you are a student, professional, or someone who loves creating visually appealing presentations, Canva offers a wide range of tools and options to bring your ideas to life. By following the steps outlined in this guide, you’ll be able to download your Canva presentation as a PowerPoint file and explore further possibilities with your work.

Now, let’s dive into the step-by-step process of downloading Canva presentations as PowerPoint (PPT) files.

Step 1: Open Canva

The first step in downloading your Canva presentation as a PowerPoint file is to open Canva. If you don’t already have an account, you can easily create one for free by visiting Canva’s website.

Once you’ve logged into your Canva account, you will be greeted by the Canva dashboard. This is where you can access all your previous designs and create new ones.

To begin, click on the “Create a design” button located at the top right corner of the dashboard. This will open a drop-down menu with various design options.

Since we are focusing on presentations, select the “Presentation” option from the drop-down menu. Canva offers a wide range of presentation templates to choose from, or you can start with a blank canvas and design your presentation from scratch.

Once you’ve made your selection, Canva will open the presentation editor. Here, you can customize your slides, add text, images, shapes, and other design elements to make your presentation visually appealing.

With Canva’s intuitive drag-and-drop interface, you can easily rearrange elements on your slides, change fonts and colors, and apply various effects to create a polished and professional-looking presentation.

Now that you have successfully opened Canva and accessed the presentation editor, you are ready to move on to the next step: selecting the presentation you want to download as a PowerPoint file.

Step 2: Select the Presentation

After opening Canva and accessing the presentation editor, it’s time to select the specific presentation that you want to download as a PowerPoint (PPT) file.

If you have previously created presentations in Canva, you will see a list of your existing presentations on the dashboard. Scroll through the list to find the presentation you want to download, or use the search bar to quickly locate it.

If you are starting a new presentation from scratch, you can skip this step and move on to customizing your presentation in the editor.

Once you have identified the presentation you want to download, click on it to open it in the presentation editor. This will load your selected presentation with all its slides and design elements.

In the presentation editor, you can review your slides and make any necessary edits or adjustments before downloading it as a PowerPoint file. Take this opportunity to double-check for any typos, formatting issues, or missing content.

If you want to make changes to the overall design of your presentation, such as applying a different template or theme, you can also do so at this stage. Canva provides a variety of pre-designed templates and design elements that you can easily swap out to customize your presentation according to your preferences.

Remember, the way your presentation looks in Canva may differ slightly when exported as a PowerPoint file. It’s a good idea to have a clear idea of how you want the final PowerPoint presentation to look, taking into account any limitations or adjustments that may occur during the conversion process.

Once you are satisfied with how your presentation looks and any edits you made, it’s time to move on to the next step: customizing the presentation.

Step 3: Customize the Presentation

Now that you have selected the presentation you want to download as a PowerPoint file, it’s time to customize it according to your specific needs and preferences.

The Canva presentation editor offers a wide range of customization options to help you create a visually appealing and engaging presentation. Here are some key elements you can customize:

  • Slides: Canva allows you to add, delete, and rearrange slides as needed. You can easily duplicate slides to maintain a consistent design throughout your presentation.
  • Text: Customize the text on each slide by changing the font, size, color, and alignment. You can also apply formatting options such as bold, italic, and underline to emphasize important information.
  • Images: Add images to your presentation by uploading your own photos or choosing from Canva’s extensive library of free and premium stock images. You can resize, crop, and apply filters to the images to enhance their visual impact.
  • Shapes and Icons: Canva offers a wide variety of shapes and icons that you can use to enhance your presentation. These elements can be customized in terms of size, color, and position.
  • Background: Customize the background of your slides by choosing from a selection of colors, patterns, or images. This helps to create a cohesive and visually appealing theme throughout your presentation.
  • Animations and Transitions: Canva also allows you to add animations and transitions to your slides to create dynamic and engaging presentations. Experiment with different effects to bring your content to life.

Take your time to customize each slide according to your desired layout and design. Use Canva’s editing tools to align elements, maintain consistency in font choices and colors, and ensure that your presentation looks polished and professional.

Remember, the more attention you pay to the customization of your presentation, the better it will resonate with your audience and convey your message effectively.

Once you have customized your presentation to your satisfaction, it’s time to move on to the next step: downloading your presentation as a PowerPoint (PPT) file.

Step 4: Click on “Download”

Once you have customized your Canva presentation to suit your needs, it’s time to proceed with downloading it as a PowerPoint (PPT) file.

To download your presentation, locate the toolbar at the top of the Canva editor. On the right side of the toolbar, you will find a button labeled “Download.” Click on this button to open the download options.

When you click on the “Download” button, a dropdown menu will appear with several download options. Choose the “PowerPoint” option from the list. This will initiate the process of converting your Canva presentation into a PowerPoint file.

Depending on the complexity and size of your presentation, the conversion process may take a few moments. Be patient and wait for Canva to generate your PowerPoint file.

It’s important to note that Canva may prompt you to confirm your download by asking you to verify your email address. This additional step is to ensure the security and privacy of your downloaded file. Follow the instructions provided by Canva to proceed with the download confirmation process.

Once the conversion process is complete, Canva will either automatically start downloading the PowerPoint file to your device or provide a link to download it. Keep in mind that the download process may vary depending on your internet connection speed and device.

It’s advisable to save the downloaded PowerPoint file in a location on your device where you can easily locate it later. Choose a file name that accurately reflects the content of your presentation and makes it easy for you to identify it in the future.

Congratulations! You have successfully downloaded your Canva presentation as a PowerPoint (PPT) file. Now, it’s time to move on to the next step: choosing the PPT format.

Step 5: Choose PPT Format

After downloading your Canva presentation as a PowerPoint (PPT) file, it’s important to ensure that you have selected the correct PPT format that is compatible with your requirements.

Canva offers different PPT formats to choose from, depending on your intended use for the presentation. Here are a few commonly used PPT formats:

  • PPT: The standard PowerPoint format that is widely supported by various versions of Microsoft PowerPoint.
  • PPTX: An updated version of the PPT format that offers enhanced features and functionality. This format is compatible with newer versions of Microsoft PowerPoint.
  • PPTM: A macro-enabled PPT format that allows the inclusion of macros and interactive elements in the presentation.
  • POT: A PowerPoint template format that can be used as a starting point for creating new presentations with a consistent design.

When choosing the PPT format, consider the compatibility of your file with the devices and software you plan to use for presenting or editing your presentation. If you are unsure which format to select, the standard PPT format is generally a safe choice.

During the download process from Canva, you will likely be prompted to select the PPT format. Make sure to review the options provided and choose the format that best suits your needs.

It’s worth noting that some advanced features or design elements in your Canva presentation may not be fully supported in certain PPT formats. It’s a good idea to test your downloaded presentation in the chosen PPT format to ensure that everything is as expected and functioning correctly.

Once you have selected the appropriate PPT format, proceed with saving the downloaded Canva presentation in that format. Choose a location on your device where you can easily access the file.

With the PPT format selected and the presentation saved, you are now ready to move on to the final step: concluding the process and saving your presentation.

Step 6: Save the Presentation

After successfully downloading your Canva presentation as a PowerPoint (PPT) file and selecting the desired PPT format, it’s crucial to save the presentation to a location where you can easily access it whenever needed.

When saving the downloaded presentation, consider the following steps:

  • Choose a File Name: Give your presentation a descriptive and meaningful file name that accurately represents its content. This will make it easier for you to identify and locate the presentation in the future.
  • Select a Storage Location: Determine where you want to store the presentation on your device. It’s advisable to choose a dedicated folder or directory for your presentations to keep them organized.
  • Backup and Cloud Storage: Consider backing up your presentation to an external storage device or uploading it to a cloud storage platform for extra security and accessibility.
  • Revision Control: If you plan to make further edits or updates to the presentation, consider using version control or document management tools to keep track of changes and maintain a history of revisions.
  • Sharing and Collaboration: If you intend to share or collaborate on the presentation with others, make sure to enable appropriate sharing settings or grant access permissions to the relevant individuals.

By saving your Canva presentation in a secure and organized manner, you can easily access and work on it whenever necessary. It also allows you to maintain control over your presentation and ensure its availability for future use.

Remember to periodically update and save new versions of your presentation as you make changes or improvements. This will help you maintain a well-maintained and up-to-date collection of presentations.

With these final steps completed, congratulations! You have successfully downloaded your Canva presentation as a PowerPoint (PPT) file, selected the appropriate PPT format, and saved the presentation to a location of your choice. You can now confidently use your presentation for various purposes, whether it’s for professional presentations, academic projects, or any other related activities.

Congratulations! You have now reached the end of this guide on how to download Canva presentations as PowerPoint (PPT) files. By following the step-by-step process outlined in this guide, you have learned how to open Canva, select a presentation, customize it to your liking, and download it in the desired PPT format.

Canva provides an intuitive and user-friendly platform for creating visually stunning presentations. With its extensive library of templates, design elements, and customization options, you have the tools to create professional and engaging presentations that captivate your audience.

Remember, as you customize your Canva presentation, pay attention to the overall design, fonts, colors, and other elements that contribute to the visual appeal of your slides. Ensure that your presentation effectively communicates your message and aligns with your intended purpose.

By downloading your Canva presentation as a PowerPoint file, you can easily share it with others, present it in a more traditional format, or further edit it using Microsoft PowerPoint or other compatible software.

HOW TO DOWNLOAD CANVA SLIDES AS POWERPOINT

Quick video tutorial.

Sometimes when a client asks a question, it’s a great opportunity for me to create a short video tutorial to help them and others. So recently when I was asked about downloading a Canva Presentation and converting it to PowerPoint, I created this quick tutorial. I hope you find this step by step guide for how to turn Canva slides into PPT helpful!

Canva can pretty much do it all!

Canva has come a long way since its inception and you can now create some pretty amazing things on their platform. From graphics to social media posts, slide presentations and videos, I have come to rely on it for so many things.

Canva Presentations

The Presentations option in Canva is a great way to create a slide presentation as you have access to so many different layouts, images, etc. It’s a quick and easy program to follow and the results can be stunning!

However, if you created animations (moving text) etc. in your presentation slides in Canva, those will not download, when you save as a PowerPoint. You may need to edit your slide deck for those options after you download. You can still download an individual slide with a video as an MP4 file and insert that into your slide deck afterwards.

How to download your Presentation

Now it’s time to download your beautiful creation. You will see the Share button in the top right corner. This is where you can copy a link to share your file or download it. When you click the Share button, you will see a variety of options.  The one that may save you time, is to download your slides as a PowerPoint slide deck in one download.

Click MORE…

Click on the Share button and scroll down until you see …More. When you click on More, you will scroll down until you see the PowerPoint icon and click on that. Now you can easily download your presentation as a PowerPoint file and save it to your computer.

Hot Bonus Tip:

You can also present your slides right from Canva! Just click the Present button beside the Share button at the top right corner. We have blogs and tutorials about how to use Canva too.

File Not Opening

If you’re unable to open the exported PowerPoint file, it may be due to compatibility issues. Ensure that you have the latest version of PowerPoint installed on your computer. If the problem persists, try exporting the file again and save it to a different location.

Design Errors After Import

Sometimes, after importing your Canva presentation to PowerPoint, you may notice design errors such as missing fonts, misplaced images, or misaligned text. 3 Smart Ways To Convert Canva To Powerpoint You’ve Got To Learn Now

This post may contain affiliate links. This means I get a commission if you purchase through my links at no cost to you. Read the full  disclosure here .

You have created a beautiful presentation in Canva, but you have no idea how to convert Canva to PowerPoint?

I get it. Some of you may prefer using Canva rather than PowerPoint. Nevertheless, one day you might want to share it with a non-Canva user and need to convert the Canva presentation into a PowerPoint file. As it turns out, you can do this quite easily.

convert Canva to PowerPoint

Canva is a great tool to make professional presentations, and the cool thing is that they have plenty of beautiful templates to work with. And in this post, I’ll show you how you can create a presentation in Canva and download it straight into PowerPoint.

Is Canva better than Powerpoint?

Canva allows users to create more professional-looking designs with little effort. Presentations can be quickly put together with Canva because of the ready templates, fonts, and easy drag-and-drop interface.

So which one should you choose? It will depend on how you plan to use it. Canva is a good choice if you use it daily to create custom graphics for your blog and social media and sometimes for presentations.

However, if you are primarily interested in creating presentations, we recommend PowerPoint since it specializes in one feature and offers more customization options. You can make visually stunning presentations that grab your audiences’ attention if you have advanced PowerPoint skills.

If you don’t have Microsoft Office 365 on your computer, no worries, you can still use PowerPoint online for free. Search for Free Microsoft Office Online . Basically, it’s a web-based version of Microsoft’s presentation app accessible through any browser. You only need to have a Microsoft account to access it.

Is Canva good for presentations?

Canva design software is perfect for creating presentations, social media graphics, etc. There are plenty of presentation templates available in the free plan. Alternatively, Canva Pro has more templates and is also an affordable option. Canva may not be able to compete with Powerpoint anytime soon, but on the other hand, the platform caters to an entirely different audience.

Stuck for inspiration? Have a look at these amazing Canva presentation examples.

Can you transfer Canva to PowerPoint?

Here I’ll show you the three ways to import your presentation from Canva to Powerpoint .

First method

Click, share this design, and choose the three dots at the bottom of the dropdown menu to convert your Canva presentation to PowerPoint.

save or download presentation as PowerPoint file

  • From the selection, choose to save as ‘ Microsoft PowerPoint. ‘ Select the pages and press Done. This will automatically generate your presentation in the .pptx format.
  • Save the PowerPoint file on your computer.
  • Find the file you just downloaded, double-click it, and, voila, it will open in Powerpoint.

save as PowerPoint pptx file

second method

The presentation is still created in PowerPoint when you use this method, not in Canva. The second way to convert Canva to PowerPoint:

  • Use Canva to create your presentation.
  • Then download all the images as PNGs.
  • Create blank slides for your presentation in PowerPoint
  • Finish by inserting the Canva images into the empty slides.

save slides as png

third method

Method number three, which some people prefer, is downloading the presentation in pdf form and then converting it into a PowerPoint presentation. You can do this with a free tool called SmallPDF . This file retains its original format, so you can revise it and edit it as needed.

In my opinion, this is the most complicated solution to convert Canva to PowerPoint. Downloading the PNG files and inserting them into blank slides is much easier.

How to save Canva as ppt with animation?

Once you confirm to download your Canva presentation as a PPT (Powerpoint) file, you’ll see a warning that any animated elements in the presentation will be lost when you download it. But there’s a workaround. A simple method makes it possible to convert Canva to ppt with animation, as you can see in the video below.

How to save Canva as ppt without changing fonts?

You may notice that your Canva presentation looks different once you open it in PowerPoint. This can happen if you use a font in Canva that isn’t on your computer, which will make the fonts appear differently.

On the other hand, if you insist on using that font, you can easily find it online. Simply download the font and  install it in Windows . You can also substitute it with a similar font that you already have in PowerPoint if you wish.

Can I transfer a Canva presentation to Google Slides?

You can accomplish this in three ways. It’s similar to when you convert Canva to PowerPoint.

A) The simplest way to import the content from Canva into Google Slides is to save your slides as PNG files. Drag the images into your Google Slide presentation and stretch them to fill the entire slide.

B) Another option is to download the template as a PowerPoint file, as I previously explained, and import it from your Google Slides dashboard.

C) And finally, you can directly import your Canva presentation into your Google Drive account.

Here is how to transfer Canva design into Google Slides step by step.

  • Within the Canva editor, locate the three dots at the top on the right.
  • From the sharing/downloading options, select the  Google Drive  icon.
  • You’ll have to link your Google account to Canva before proceeding.
  • Follow the instructions and choose the drive folder where you want to save your presentation.
  • You will first have to save your presentation in .pptx format to your Google Drive.
  • The presentation file will automatically open on Google Slides when you double-click it.
  • To edit and save a Canva presentation, click on File and tap Save as Google Slides.
  • There you go! You have a new Google Slide with your Canva presentations.

Besides Canva and Google Slides, many PowerPoint alternatives are free to use. Several tools also offer paid plans. You might wish to consider this if you run a larger or small business.

Are you looking for PowerPoint alternatives?

Here is some excellent presentation software to consider.

How to Download a Canva Presentation as a PowerPoint

Avatar photo

To download a Canva presentation as a Microsoft PowerPoint presentation, all you have to do is go to the Share button and scroll to find the PowerPoint button and click download. Note that some Canva elements may not transfer seamlessly to other platforms.

As more and more platforms and software become available, it can be challenging to figure out which ones to use. If you find yourself comfortable with software that you have been using for years but also want to add a bit more graphic design to your projects, look no further!

My name is Kerry, and I am here to share tips on how to integrate the two together using accessible methods!

In this post, I’ll explain the steps to download any presentation that is designed on Canva to be used as a PowerPoint presentation. This is a feature that is useful if you are more comfortable presenting using PowerPoint or want to be able to further edit it in that software.

Are you ready to get started and learn how to download your presentations to be used in Microsoft Power? Wonderful – let’s go!

Table of Contents

Key Takeaways

Why use powerpoint and canva together, final thoughts.

  • You can design professional presentations on the Canva platform by either creating a project from scratch or by using a premade presentation template that is found in the library.
  • While you can present your work on Canva itself, if you want to download the presentation to use in Microsoft PowerPoint, you can do that by clicking on the Share button and choosing that option with download.
  • Some elements in Canva may not transfer seamlessly to Microsoft PowerPoint if it is not supported by the software.

While Canva has an amazing number of options to customize designs and presentations, some people are just more comfortable using Microsoft PowerPoint when presenting to a group. (This is totally fine and allows for additional modes and features that help when presenting!)

Luckily, there is an option on Canva to download your project specifically to Microsoft PowerPoint from the platform. Better yet, it’s very simple to do!

How to Create and Download a Presentation to PowerPoint

If you are looking to learn how to download your presentation to Microsoft PowerPoint, look no further!

Follow these steps to learn how to create and download your Canva presentation to PowerPoint:

Step 1: Open up a preexisting or new canvas project to work on and choose the Presentation template. You can either start from a blank canvas or use one of the premade templates and edit the information that you need.

Step 2: Add the information, graphics, and elements that you want to include in your presentation by using the toolbar that is located on the left side of the screen. This is a hub that will serve as the main place to search for elements, add text boxes, and include uploads, plus more!

You also have the ability to add in all of the pages from the template through the templates tab or choose specific designs within that template to include.

Step 4: Then, navigate to the top right corner of the platform and click on the Share button.

At the bottom of the menu, you will see an option for more choices that is represented by three dots. Click on it and scroll down to where you see options for downloading your file.

Step 5: Click on the option that is labeled Microsoft PowerPoint and you’ll be given the option to select which pages of your presentation you would like to download. You can choose individual slides or the whole presentation (all pages).

Step 6: Next, an additional message will pop up to ensure that this is the action that you want to take. Hit the download button and your Canva design will be saved as a .pptx file and open straight in the PowerPoint program!

Note that when you open up your presentation in PowerPoint, the work may look a bit different as the Microsoft software may not support certain elements or fonts.

If you used a font from Canva that you don’t already have downloaded on your device, this may be an issue that you encounter. No worries though! You can either replace it with a font that you already have in PowerPoint or download that font from the internet.

It is easy to convert a presentation that you make on Canva to a PowerPoint presentation, so you might as well take advantage of those extra design elements from the Canva library!

Part 2: How to export Canva to Powerpoint?

If you've created a design in Canva and would like to use it in a PowerPoint presentation, you can easily export your Canva design as an image and then insert that image into your PowerPoint slides. Here's a step-by-step guide on how to do it:

Step 1: Open Your Presentation in Canva

Start by opening the presentation you've created in Canva.

Step 2: Access the Share section

Look for the "Share" in the top-right corner of your screen.

Step 3: Select Microsoft PowerPoint

Within the "More" menu, navigate to the "Share" section and choose "Microsoft PowerPoint."

Step 4: Choose Pages for Export

Decide if you want to download all the pages in your presentation or only specific ones. Uncheck the box for any page you don't wish to download.

Click the purple "Done" button to confirm your settings.

Step 6: Initiate Download

Proceed to click the purple "Download" button. Note that some media types like videos, audio, and animations might not function in the exported file.

Your presentation will start to download onto your device.

Part 3: Can I export the Canva to PPT with Animations?

Canva doesn't natively support exporting animations directly to PowerPoint. However, you can follow alternative methods below to incorporate animations effectively into your PowerPoint presentation.

Change File Format

To convert Canva slides with animations into PowerPoint presentation slides, follow these steps:

Step 1: Return to your Canva presentation and download the pages containing animations as GIFs.

Go to 'Share' and then click on 'Download.' Select the specific page or pages you want to download:

Step 2 Choose GIF as the file format and click the download button:

Step 3: Add the GIFs to PowerPoint:

Insert a blank slide in your PowerPoint presentation. Upload the downloaded GIF image to the blank slide.

Adjust the GIF to cover the PowerPoint slide.

Add the Animations in PPT

Step 1 Open Presentation: Launch PowerPoint and open your presentation.

Step 2 Select Element: Click on the element to animate.

Step 3 Go to "Animations" tab. Pick an animation from the menu.

Step 4 Click to apply the animation to the element. Adjust animation settings in the Animation Pane.

Step 5 Use "Preview" to see the animation.

Can I import PPT to Canva?

Easily upload files in Canva by either dragging and dropping your presentation onto the homepage or clicking the "Upload" button on the top corner of the homepage banner. Alternatively, access the "Projects" section from the side menu and go to the "Uploads" folder. Here, you can drag your file onto the page or use the "Upload" button. In the editor, drag and drop your presentation into the workspace or select "File" > "Upload a file" on the top corner. Within the editor's side panel, navigate to the "Uploads" tab, either dragging files or using the "Upload files" option.

Can I record the presentation in Canva?

In the editor menu bar, find "Present" and click it. If not visible, click "Share" first. Opt for "Present and record" and proceed with "Next." Access the recording studio by clicking "Go to recording studio," permitting mic and camera access. Select desired camera and mic if multiple devices are available. Initiate recording by clicking "Start recording" and present your content. Finish by clicking "End recording" on the top corner, allowing time for upload.

How to make sure the same fonts export to PPT?

Mismatched fonts can distort your presentation's appearance. Ensure uniform font usage in both tools. If PowerPoint lacks Canva fonts, download from Google and upload to Windows. Canva's extensive font library boasts 3000 options, which could require purchasing for PowerPoint, potentially at a premium cost. If budget constraints apply, continuing with Canva's presentation might be necessary, while another workaround is exploring Google Slides as an alternative.

In this guide, we explore the seamless integration of Canva's creative prowess into PowerPoint presentations. We uncover how to convert Canva designs into PowerPoint slides, focusing on image export and animation incorporation through alternate means like GIFs. While Canva doesn't directly support animation export to PowerPoint, this guide outlines a workaround to achieve dynamic visual effects.

Notably, we highlight the significance of WPS Office, a free and versatile alternative office suite that ensures an efficient working experience across documents, spreadsheets, presentations, and PDFs. Compatible with Microsoft Office formats and boasting diverse features, WPS Office emerges as a powerful tool for enhancing productivity and creativity, offering users an all-inclusive and cost-effective solution.

Wait, is Powerpoint cool now?

Users say that what makes PowerPoint a fun format for social activities is how easily the tool can be subverted, inspiring them to rewrite the rules of presentation etiquette.

Washington consultant Seamus O’Neill stood before an attentive audience and cleared his throat. “Some of you may be wondering how rats got to D.C.,” he began. “Like most residents, rats came to D.C. for work.”

The crowd laughed, as O’Neill, 24, continued in earnest. “You may think I am joking,” he said. “But indeed rats are very resourceful creatures, and they have followed humans wherever we have gone for millennia.”

As O’Neill spoke, slides of a PowerPoint presentation flashed across the screens of mounted TVs around the room, visualizing his arguments with graphs and short bullet points: How rats became more interconnected through the Silk Road and trade routes. How they carried the bubonic plague, wiping out between 30 and 60% of the population of almost every country between China and Portugal. How some of these rodents found fame (including Remy from “Ratatouille” and Stuart Little). How he calculated the rat-to-human ratio in Washington (allegedly 3:2) and it was worse than New York City’s (allegedly 1:2). And how he imagined the media (including this publication) would craft their headlines “if they covered the rat issue with the level of attention and analytical analysis that it truly deserves.”

Friends laugh during the “Oh, Rats” presentation given by Washington consultant Seamus O’Neill, 24, at the Tight Five Pub in Adams Morgan. “It’s nice to take a load off after work,” O’Neill said of PowerPoint parties.  “It’s basically a free comedy show, and maybe you’ll learn something too.”

O’Neill wasn’t addressing a neighborhood town hall. Or city council members. Or a Tomcat boardroom. He was speaking to a group of about 20 or so bargoers huddled over beers and half-priced burgers at a pub in Adams Morgan.

In recent months, O’Neill and other locals have convened at Tight Five Pub to deliver presentations about their niche interests, hidden pastimes and hot takes. That July night, his “Oh, Rats” slideshow was accompanied by another presenter’s pitch deck on how he ghosted his girlfriend and started a new dating app; a guide to impressions in French; a math lecture on infinite sets; and a thorough breakdown of what might have happened if Richard M. Nixon had defeated John F. Kennedy in 1960.

“It’s nice to take a load off after work,” O’Neill said. “It’s basically a free comedy show, and maybe you’ll learn something too.”

PowerPoints have long dredged up flashbacks of dull meetings and interminable briefings, with some even calling for the presentation software to be banned. But it’s gotten a makeover in recent years, with millennials and Generation Zers repurposing the software for social entertainment: A workplace and educational tool by day has become a zany social game by night. Even PowerPoint’s developer, Microsoft, has cosigned the trend — offering a party template that participants can download (though some users are turning to its rival tools like Canva and Google Slides) and imparting advice for creating a presentation. “Make it more visually appealing — this isn’t your Father’s PowerPoint,” notes Microsoft’s site.

Indeed, a scroll through #powerpointnight TikTok uncovers thousands of unconventional, unhinged and unserious slideshows presented at different parties. There’s “Men I Talked About in Therapy.” And “How My Friends Would Undoubtedly Die in The Hunger Games.” Others are thematic, such as a PowerPoint night to “finally figure out what all your friends do for work.” “Pitch a Friend” lets presenters create slide decks to help their single pals find potential matches in the crowd.

Brand accounts, of course, hardly ever miss an opportunity to weigh in. “Topics are a solid 💯,” Canva commented on one viral post. On another, Microsoft wrote: “We love a Pedro [Pascal] PowerPoint (even though y’all used Google [crying smile emoji])”

In more intentional moments, users have turned to the software for planning friend group trips, celebrating bachelorette parties, persuading their parents to let a friend sleep over or buy them Taylor Swift tour tickets, coming out to their family members or revealing their job as a stripper. PowerPoint even played a role in Sydney Sweeney’s booming career: The actress revealed she once made a slideshow to persuade her parents to move from Spokane, Wash., to Los Angeles.

The concept was first documented in 2012 when three engineering students at Ontario’s University of Waterloo started a party called “Drink Talk Learn (DTL).” It quickly spread to other cities including Toronto, Seattle, San Francisco, Edmonton and New York, one participant told BuzzFeed.

The pandemic, which compelled friends to leverage workplace software tools for social engagement, gave it another boost. As Zoom happy hours persisted, PowerPoint presentations emerged, allowing hosts to rant, inform, explain, reveal or geek out about a topic or event of their choosing.

“In the ‘Zoom times,’ I felt like I was presenting a lot,” said Jaibin Mathew, 23.

During the event in Adams Morgan, Mathew gave a vibrant ’70s-themed Canva presentation, explaining why everyone should be wearing Silly Bandz — rubber bracelets in various shapes and colors that were especially popular among kids in the early 2010s. At one point, he playfully suggested that everyone embrace microplastics in their lives.

“I have many plastics — I wear them on my arms,” he said. “I hope they reach into my bloodstream.”

Jaibin Mathew, 23, gives Silly Bandz to April Thompson after his vibrant ’70s-themed Canva presentation on the bracelets. “I think [the PowerPoints] are a really fun social lubricant because then they know something about you that they can ask you about,” Mathew said later in a phone interview. “And then it’s like a really great conversation starter.”

“And then it’s like a really great conversation starter.” (Craig Hudson/For The Washington Post)

Growing up, Mathew always found PowerPoint to be stressful, recounting a particularly difficult seventh grade slideshow he made about J. Robert Oppenheimer. But in the context of social settings, he appreciates how they allow him to connect with other people.

On the night he gave his Silly Bandz presentation, he didn’t know a single person at the bar. But after presenting, he met a handful of locals and even gave away a few bracelets he had brought with him.

“I think [the PowerPoints] are a really fun social lubricant because then they know something about you that they can ask you about,” Mathew said later in a phone interview. “And then it’s like a really great conversation starter.”

Users say that what makes PowerPoint a fun format for social activities is how easily the tool can be subverted, inspiring them to rewrite the rules of presentation etiquette and dream up NSFW topics that satirize the stuffy settings from which they originated.

“I think the fun part of a PowerPoint presentation is that it’s a topic you probably wouldn’t or shouldn’t present about in a lot of contexts,” Mathew said. “It’s the way a lot of fun performances are — it’s just turning something normal on its head.”

The structural nature of PowerPoints (distilling research into short bullet notes and key findings) can also weed out some of the clumsy and awkward aspects of regular social conversation — where folks can stumble over words, lose their train of thought and excitedly talk over one another. With PowerPoint parties, it gives everyone the chance to have the floor without distractions or interruptions — save for the outbursts of cheers and laughter.

Philip Mayer, a transportation researcher and former teacher, began hosting the Washington event at Tight Five Pub in May (though the venue has changed to Johnny Pistola’s on the first Wednesday of every month after Tight Five Pub abruptly shuttered its doors).

(Craig Hudson/For The Washington Post)

As a former middle school and high school teacher, Mayer, 40, would make presentations for his students. During the pandemic when schools were migrating to online classrooms, Mayer would kick off his hybrid lessons with a quick “cool thing of the day” slide deck, thrilling students with fun facts about Soviet vending machines or the ravens of the Tower of London.

“Fortunately, it was good at getting people to show up on time,” he said. “Unfortunately, a lot of people would just log in, watch the cool thing of the day and then log out.”

Mayer even showed one to his date when he participated in The Washington Post’s Date Lab series in 2020.

“Some people were like ‘don’t do that — that’s the worst thing you possibly could do’” he said. “But she was into it, and people in the comments liked it a lot.”

In Washington, where Mayer says there’s a huge appetite for trivia and stand-up comedy, PowerPoint Night is the perfect marriage of both of them: “I just need people to understand that we’re not doing, like, quarterly sales reports with the participants.”

How to Convert Canva to Google Slides? A Step-by-Step Guide

How to Convert Canva to Google Slides? A Step-by-Step Guide

Table of Contents

Have you created a stunning presentation in Canva but now need to move it to Google Slides? Don’t worry, converting your masterpiece is easier than you think!

This step-by-step guide will walk you through the process, ensuring a smooth transition from Canva’s intuitive design platform to the collaborative environment of Google Slides.

Whether you’re presenting to colleagues, students, or a wider audience, this guide will equip you with the knowledge to effortlessly transfer your Canva creation and maintain its visual impact within Google Slides.

2 Methods of Converting Canva to Google Slides Presentations

Method 1: downloading individual slides as images.

1. Locate Your Canva Presentation: Start by opening the Canva presentation you want to convert in your Canva account.

2. Save Each Slide as an Image: Click the “Download” button in the top right corner of the editor.  You’ll be presented with various file format options. For this method, choose either PNG or JPEG, which are both high-quality image formats that work well for presentations.

3. Open Google Slides: Head over to your web browser and launch Google Slides. Sign in to your Google account if needed.

4. Create a New Presentation (or Open Existing): If you’re starting fresh, click on “New Presentation” to create a blank canvas. If you have an existing presentation where you want to incorporate the Canva slides, simply open that presentation.

5. Import Downloaded Images: Now it’s time to bring your Canva slides into Google Slides. Click on “Insert” in the top menu bar, then select “Image.”  This will open a window where you can browse your computer and locate the downloaded Canva slides (PNG or JPEG files) you saved earlier. Select each image one by one and click “Open” to import them into your Google Slides presentation.

6. Adjust Layouts and Add Elements: With your Canva slides now in Google Slides, you might need to adjust the layouts a bit to fit your needs. Use the tools in Google Slides to resize and reposition the images as needed.  You can also add text boxes, shapes, and other elements to further customize your presentation.

Method 2: Exporting as PowerPoint (PPTX) and Importing into Google Slides

1. Open Your Canva Presentation: Just like in Method 1, begin by opening the Canva presentation you want to convert.

2. Download as PowerPoint (PPTX): Click the “Download” button in the top right corner of the editor again.  This time, instead of choosing an image format, select “Microsoft PowerPoint (PPTX).”  This will save your entire Canva presentation as a single PPTX file.

3. Open Google Slides: Launch Google Slides in your web browser, sign in if prompted.

4. Import the PPTX File: Click on “File” in the top menu bar, then select “Import Slides.” In the following window, choose “Upload” and browse your computer to locate the downloaded PPTX file (your converted Canva presentation). Click “Open” to import it into Google Slides.

5. Review and Edit: While Google Slides does a good job of converting PPTX files, it’s always a good idea to review the presentation for any formatting or layout issues.  Use the tools in Google Slides to make any necessary adjustments.

Remember: Both methods have their advantages. Downloading individual slides as images offers more control over each slide’s layout while exporting as PPTX is a quicker option for converting your entire presentation at once. Choose the method that best suits your needs.

Why do Professionals Switch from Canva to Google Slides?

There are several reasons why professionals might choose to switch from Canva to Google Slides for creating presentations. Here’s a breakdown of some advantages Google Slides offers:

  • Real-time Collaboration: One of the biggest advantages of Google Slides for professionals is its collaborative features. Unlike the free version of Canva, Google Slides allows multiple people to edit and work on a presentation simultaneously. This can be incredibly helpful for teams working on a project together. It’s like sitting in a virtual meeting room for your presentation, where everyone can contribute and refine the slides in real time.
  • Seamless Integration with Google Workspace: If you’re already using Google products like Docs and Sheets, Google Slides integrates perfectly with them. This means you can easily copy and paste content between documents, presentations, and spreadsheets without any formatting issues. This streamlines your workflow significantly, allowing you to pull data or text from other projects into your slides without any hassle.
  • Accessibility Anywhere, Anytime: One of the biggest advantages of Google Slides is its accessibility. Since your presentations are stored online in Google Drive, you can access them from any device with an internet connection. This eliminates the worry of forgetting a USB drive with your presentation or being unable to work on it due to location limitations. It’s like having your slides readily available in your pocket, prepared for whenever and wherever you need them.
  • Version Control and Peace of Mind: For professionals who frequently work on presentations and revisions, Google Slides’ automatic version control can be a lifesaver. Unlike relying solely on “Ctrl+Z” to undo mistakes, Google Slides automatically saves different versions of your presentation. This allows you to easily revert to a previous version if needed, ensuring you don’t lose valuable work due to accidental edits.
  • Cost-Effectiveness: Let’s face it, budget is a real concern for many professionals. Google Slides is completely free to use, making it a budget-friendly option compared to the limitations of the free version of Canva.
