assignment on youtube

YouTube can be a powerful educational tool when used efficiently, but integrating YouTube with Google Classroom opens up a whole new world of possibilities for teaching and learning.

YouTube is a video hosting site which can be utilized to achieve a number of goals including sharing educational videos from other creators, sharing student-created work, or sharing teacher-created video lessons. Anyone who creates a free account has access to a vast array of videos and is able to upload user-created videos. Teachers can create their own YouTube Channel for sharing student work or teacher-created videos.

How to Upload a YouTube Video to an Assignment

Uploading a YouTube video to a Google Classroom assignment is quick and easy. Begin by creating a new assignment from the Classwork tab. Complete the fields necessary for the assignment, and then click the YouTube icon at the bottom of the Assignment dialogue box.

assignment on youtube

The Insert Video dialogue box will appear which allows users to search for and upload YouTube videos as well as upload videos from a url. Enter keywords into the YouTube search bar and click the magnifying glass (or hit Enter). The name of notable YouTube Channels can also be entered into the search bar to increase the reliability of search results (History Channel, Discovery Networks, National Geographic, Khan Academy, etc).

Once the search results load, choose the video to be uploaded and click the red Add button on the bottom left of the dialogue box. The video will then upload to the assignment for students.

How to Use YouTube Videos in Google Classroom

There are a multitude of strategies that can be used in Google Classroom with YouTube videos. Here are a few which encourage communication and allow for differentiation as well as increase engagement for students.

Conversation Starters

  • Share a video with the entire class through the Classroom Stream to start an in-class whole group or small group discussion.
  • Start an online discussion by uploading a video to a Question on the Classwork tab in Classroom.

Share Student Videos

  • Showcase student creativity by having students create their own YouTube videos on content-based assignments to share in Classroom. These videos will need to be uploaded to a YouTube Channel which belongs to the student or the teacher. Keep in mind that parent and administrator permission will need to be obtained beforehand.
  • Have students become a “sage-on-the-stage” by teaching a lesson to peers which can be videoed and uploaded to YouTube and Google Classroom. Once again, permission should be obtained.

Video Lessons for Absent Students

  • Record your lessons and upload as a Material from the Classwork tab. Absent students can then access your lessons from home.

Group Work or Stations for Collaboration and Differentiated Instruction

  • More than one video can be added to an assignment which allows group projects or station work to be included in one Assignment window. This can also assist teachers in differentiating instruction.

Homework Helper

  • Post videos from reliable sources which explain the homework topic(s).

Just Say Hi

  • Post a teacher-created video to introduce yourself, tell a funny joke as a brain break, or just say “hi” to students.

What are your concerns about assigning students to create YouTube videos

Edit: In a very short time, I have (thankfully) heard more than enough to convince me using YouTube is a really bad idea, mainly because it requires an account and potential privacy problems. I am totally abandoning the idea unless/until I can identify options that work within my institutions horrible LMS.

Thanks everyone! So glad I asked.

I am trying to decide whether assigning YouTube videos would, generally, be a good idea for my first-year writing course or create headaches and/or be unfair to students. I especially want to hear from professors who have experience (good or bad) assigning students to make YouTube videos.

Some students lack the technology. (But all they really need is a phone, and lacking that, there are probably resources on campus).

Some students lack the know-how. Or they would claim they do.

Options I am considering:

Short intro videos at the beginning of the course (when teaching online--I can take this one or leave it).

A last ditch alternative to in-class presentations when they have a documented excuse.

Part of each project - I teach composition, but I want to see them discuss their research or argument in a different modality. This would be an alternative to in-class presentations for ALL students.

What I want to know:

I'm particularly interested in any problems this kind of assignment might create, whether it be some kind of legal/policy implications I hadn't thought of, extra hassle, or something in between.

If you already use this, what did you like or dislike about it?

Best practices:

Were I to begin assigning these, I would pay attention to the following. If you have similar suggestions based on experience, please share.

Tell them to post it as unlisted.

Don't make production value part of the grade.

Suggest they set it to comments-off.

Make "be able to post YouTube videos" a course requirement in the syllabus.

The Case of the YouTube Assignment - Do You See an Ethical Dilemma?

Help are students exhibiting moral decay or media savvy.

Posted December 18, 2011

This entry is co-authored by Aaron S. Richmond, Ph.D. , who is a faculty member at Metropolitan State College of Denver and a nationally known educator. A few weeks ago he told me about an exercise he did in one of his classes that had a somewhat unexpected outcome. Aaron and I invite you to consider the ethical, social, and pedagogical implications:

A few weeks back, after watching some particularly bad student videos on YouTube, I (Aaron) decided to have my own intro psychology students try some! I created an optional classroom assignment in which I asked students to film a 1-2 minute video illustrating Bandura's Observational Learning Theory . To my amazement, over 90% of my students submitted videos! They approached the assignment earnestly, creatively, and sincerely. Honestly, it was one of the most enjoyable assignments to grade I've ever given. I spent more time than I usually do grading a set of papers--watching their YouTube posts, sometimes laughing to the point of crying (e.g., http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DfV654wy5O0 ; http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pE1moIJAXmo )

As I reflected on the assignment, it struck me that about 20% of my students made their videos in public where they "tricked" innocent bystanders into mimicking modeled behavior. For example, one group conducted the "invisible rope experiment." The three students were located on a major campus thoroughfare. One student was located on each side of the walkway. They pretended to be pulling a rope while the third student pretended to high-step over the rope. Subsequently, people mimicked the third student's behavior by high-stepping over the invisible rope.

It made me feel uneasy that my students were tricking unsuspecting people. I shared my story with Mitch, and we started to explore.

Our first question: Where did students get this tendency toward trickery? One possibility: Psychology itself has a long history of using deception in research. The most famous example is the Milgram "obedience" studies , in which unsuspecting participants gave what they thought were painful shocks to another person. These experiments were very controversial, and some psychologists (e.g., Baumrind, 1964) argued that the deception involved was not worth the new knowledge that Milgram provided about our willingness to inflict pain just because we're told to by an authority.

In some quarters psychologists have the reputation of saying anything to anybody just to see the reaction. But psychologists argue that they do not deceive people willy-nilly (did we really use that word?). The APA Ethics Code says that deception should only be used as a last resort, when there's no other way to test an important hypothesis. The Code also says that psychologists should undo the deception after the experiment is over-this is called "debriefing," during which each participant is told the true purposes of the study and given a chance to have their questions answered. When done with respect and with sensitivity to participants' reactions, the ends of deception-new knowledge-can justify the means.

The long tradition of psychological research may have been one factor in students' use of trickery. The trends and influences might be broader. As we discussed the videos more, we were reminded of the ABC News "What Would You Do?" segments in which John Quiñones intentionally and with premeditation put unsuspecting citizens into morally compromising dilemmas.

Deception and lying on TV has its own long traditions. Some of us are old enough to remember the original " Candid Camera ," Joe Isuzu , and that show where potential brides were told that some bachelor was a millionaire.

Our next question: Did the students do unethical things by lying to passers-by just to prove a point, get a grade, or pass the time? And was it unethical to make the assignment without explicitly prohibiting the deceptive videos? If we don't think there were ethical violations (and we don't), we could still take a " positive ethics " approach and ask whether the instructor's or the students' behavior was ethically competent or ethically excellent . Consider these factors:

1. How bad was the deception? How potentially embarrassing (or in other ways harmful) is the situation in which we put research participants, or innocent bystanders? Research participants and people on the street might feel exploited when they are deceived.

Another form of harm comes from potential violations of confidentiality. People's privacy may be violated by being tricked into revealing parts of themselves they would not have done if told the truth.

2. Should we undue the deception? Do we owe participants in our studies, or videos, as explanation of what happened to them? And how do we determine the explanation itself might make people feel worse? A general issue: Can we lie to people to spare them suffering that we caused ourselves? At what point are we just trying to hide our own behavior under the guise of preventing bad feelings?

assignment on youtube

3. How important is the outcome? What are the goals or motivations involved? It could be argued that the primary motivation of ABC News is not the application of scientific methods to create reliable new knowledge about human behavior. Rather, the primary motivation may be simple pandering to the voyeurism of the American Public in an attempt to garner higher ratings and advertising revenue. Is the purpose of Quiñones' show important enough to justify the lying?

As psychologists we can argue that the "purer" motivation to do science justifies deception more than the profit motive. Might some students have been motivated more by the fun of deception rather than (or in addition to) trying to illustrate a theory? What if students felt that deceptive or tricky videos might get higher grades? If indeed we did (unintentionally, of course) give higher grades to deceptive videos because they struck us as more "creative," is that a value we want to teach our students?

4. How disrespectful is the deception? This is a bit fuzzier than the other concepts. Some folks simply don't like to be lied to or deceived even if no harm is done.

The bottom line: When does deception cross the line from a useful tool intended primarily to create knowledge to an inappropriate, disrespectful exploitation of fellow human beings for the primary purposes of making money, entertaining, earning higher course grades, getting tenure, or achieving other goals? Maybe there's no ethical dilemma, but we believe that incorporating these ethical factors into our decisions will help us become better teachers.

Red Sox slugger has been crushing it during rehab assignment in Triple-A

Author Photo

Boston Red Sox first baseman Triston Casas has been away from the team for nearly four months since experiencing torn cartilage in his rib against the Pittsburgh Pirates.

After months of recovery, Casas is on a rehab assignment with Triple-A Worcester, and he's been impressive in his at-bats despite admittedly battling through pain when swinging.

In 40 plate appearances over nine games, Casas has hit .294 with a .959 OPS, one home run, six doubles, six RBIs and five walks.

The 24-year-old should be activated sometime soon, perhaps even as early as Thursday against the Baltimore Orioles at Camden Yards. And, while Dom Smith has been above average at the position recently, the Red Sox could surely use Casas back in the lineup every day.

Why Yankees dumped reliever they traded for 2 weeks ago

  • Published: Aug. 14, 2024, 8:00 p.m.

Enyel De Los Santos

Enyel De Los Santos was designated for assignment by the Yankees on Wednesday. AP

  • Max Goodman | NJ Advance Media for NJ.com

CHICAGO —  The Yankees needed to subtract one pitcher from their bullpen in order to make room for spot starter Will Warren on Wednesday in Chicago and righty Enyel De Los Santos — with his 14.21 ERA in pinstripes — was the odd man out.

De Los Santos was designated for assignment Wednesday afternoon. He was acquired from the Padres in one of the Yankees’ two trade deadline deals designed to upgrade their bullpen, but lasted only two weeks with the big-league club.

The Yankees needed to call up Warren because of the rainouts this past week at Yankee Stadium. The subsequent doubleheaders threw a wrench in their starting pitching plans, creating a hole in their five-man schedule during the White Sox series. Either they needed to roll with a bullpen game or a minor-league arm needed to be called up.

RESTORING THE GLORY

Warren was optioned back down to Triple-A less than 15 days ago, so normally, he’d be ineligible to be recalled again. Since the Yankees had an injury — Jazz Chisholm Jr. went on the IL with a left elbow strain on Wednesday — the 15-day timeline was no longer applicable. Former top prospect Oswald Peraza was also called up to take Chisholm’s spot, rounding out the sudden flurry of roster moves .

The only pitcher in the Yankees’ bullpen that has minor-league options available is Jake Cousins. He wasn’t going to be demoted, though. Cousins has carved out a role for himself in the back of the bullpen, earning the first save of his MLB career in a win over the White Sox on Tuesday night. He has a 2.14 ERA since June 27.

Had De Los Santos pitched better, the Yankees could’ve cut ties with another arm. The right-hander didn’t do himself any favors over his first five outings with his new team. De Los Santos didn’t have one clean outing. He gave up a hit in each of his first two scoreless appearances before allowing 10 runs over his next four innings, including a seven-run meltdown against the White Sox in Monday’s embarrassing loss at Guaranteed Rate Field.

“It was a tough call,” Yankees manager Aaron Boone said. “Feel like he’s better than certainly the last couple results he’s had, but those things come up over the course of the year. In this case, the rainouts put us up against it. We didn’t feel like we could get through with just a full bullpen day, so had to make the tough call.”

Asked if he can pinpoint what went wrong with De Los Santos, Yankees pitching coach Matt Blake singled out the right-hander’s fastball. Blake gave De Los Santos some grace with the challenges of adjusting to a new team as well.

“I think he’s better than how he pitched here,” Blake said. “Career wise, he’s been better than that. Just got to a spot where he wasn’t quite commanding the fastball the way he wanted to, wasn’t quite getting slider where he wanted to and got thrown into some tough spots where he had to pick up some length, which is never ideal. You’d like to get him against the righties as much as possible. And then he just got into a roster jam.”

The Yankees traded speedy outfield prospect Brandon Lockridge to the Padres in the De Los Santos deal. They also acquired minor-league pitcher Thomas Balboni Jr. from San Diego in the trade.

Yankees Designate Enyel De Los Santos For Assignment

By Darragh McDonald | August 14, 2024 at 4:00pm CDT

The Yankees announced today that infielder Oswald Peraza and right-hander Will Warren have been recalled to the active roster. One spot was opened by infielder/outfielder Jazz Chisholm Jr. landing on the 10-day injured list, retroactive to August 13, with a left elbow sprain. That injury and Chisholm’s expected IL placement were both previously reported . The other roster spot was opened by right-hander Enyel De Los Santos being designated for assignment. Additionally, the Yanks added that righty Lou Trivino will begin a rehab assignment with Double-A Somerset.

It’s a very quick turnaround for De Los Santos, 28, who was just acquired prior to the deadline a couple of weeks ago. The Yankees sent outfielder Brandon Lockridge to the Padres in order to acquire De Los Santos and minor league pitcher Thomas Balboni .

It seems that the buyer’s remorse set in very quickly, as things didn’t go well for De Los Santos after swapping his Padre pinstripes for the Yankee variety. After the trade, he tossed 6 1/3 innings over five appearances, allowing 10 earned runs in that time. He struck out five opponents while walking three of them.

The Yankees were rained out on Friday and played a double-header on Saturday, meaning their five starters have each pitched in the past four days. They needed Warren to come up and make a spot start today, which required a corresponding move. The only member of their bullpen that can be optioned is Jake Cousins , who has a 2.25 ERA on the season. Rather than send Cousins down, they have decided to bump De Los Santos off the 40-man roster not too long after trading for him.

Since the deadline has now passed, the Yankees will have no choice but to put De Los Santos on waivers in the coming days. Although his results have clearly been poor since coming to the Bronx, it seems likely that some other club will look beyond that and put in a claim based on his previous work.

From the start of 2022 and up until the trade, the righty actually posted some strong numbers between the Guardians and Padres. He tossed 159 1/3 innings in that time with a 3.50 ERA, 26.4% strikeout rate and 8.5% walk rate.

Meaningful roster upgrades are difficult to come by at this post-deadline part of the calendar, so a club looking for bullpen reinforcements will probably put in a claim. That might not even need to be a contending club, as De Los Santos is making just $1.16MM this year and can be retained via arbitration for two additional seasons.

Waiver priority goes in reverse order of the standings, so the teams with the worst records will have first dibs. Even a team out of contention might take a shot on De Los Santos given those two extra years of control. But if they all pass, some club in a playoff race could benefit with a fresh arm that has had some success in recent seasons, Yankee tenure notwithstanding.

Cutting bait on De Los Santos will cut into the club’s bullpen depth, but they are about to backfill some of that with Trivino. The righty underwent Tommy John surgery in May of last year and missed all of the 2023 season. He hit free agency and the Yanks re-signed him on a one-year deal with a $1.5MM guarantee and a $5MM club option for 2025, plus bonuses and escalators that kick in at 15 appearances this year.

Prior to this lengthy injury layoff, he put up some strong numbers. Most of that came with the Athletics, though he also came over to the Yankees at the 2022 deadline as part of the Frankie Montas trade. Overall, he has 284 2/3 innings under his belt with a 3.86 ERA. His 10.6% walk rate is a bit high but his 24.5% strikeout rate and 47.4% ground ball rate are both strong.

That trade didn’t work out so well for the Yankees…

Hopefully all the injured relievers start making their way back, to help make that last push to get to the playoffs!

Nope but he was only used in low leverage situations and with Yankees behind in the games.

White Sox need to claim this guy. Very nice turnaround candidate who can be flipped next year if successful.

Decent chance the White Sox do since he was good enough to warrant two trades the last year or so. Good shot he can get back to that kind of level.

' src=

Great, now we can thankfully have one Yankee wearing the #62 jersey again, hitting coach James Rowson.

' src=

Uhhh, thanks for taking Enyel, Cash! Bizarre trade gets bizarrerer…

Gwynny, the D-backs don’t seem to be letting up. Do you want me to go pop the tires on the team bus or something?? Sprinkle banned PEDS on the after-game buffet spread?

How many rattlesnakes do you own and how soon can you… *ahem*… “release” them “into the wild”??? Wink, wink

On the real though Iggy, you can’t worry about what everybody else is doin’, just handle your biz! Cheers mate

i remember everyone thought it was odd Cleveland dealt him for Barlow…

They couldn’t fire Boonie, so some poor soul had to take the fall. Cruel world.

Burn ‘em up, toss ‘em out. Next!

the Yankees have just been absolutely abysmal at the trade deadline the last several years. all those bad contracts and trades have given them little financial room to work with and Cashman always seems intent to just pick at the edges mostly.. they also never seem to add enough depth for what they need.

Yanks had me thinking this year was different with the Leiter and Jazz trades, BUT Jazz has always been very injury prone and they should have known they’d need more options when/if he got hurt–and Leiter clearly wasn’t enough to lean on for bullpen help. I’m actually a big fan of Holmes but there were less flashy high-K guys for sale this year that they just didn’t seem to want to pull the trigger on.

i do like a lot of their options down in AAA on both sides of the ball, even the lesser known guys, but for a playoff run you’d ideally be leaning on known commodities and not unproven rookies. like Warren has a good shot to go out there and pitch a good game tonight, but he’s not someone you’re gonna end up having in your playoff rotation

' src=

Do tell us more.

Well tell them because as far as I’m concerned, you’re

I don’t know who this MickeyTheMod guy is, but googling him shows all he types here is about muting other people. What a boring life one must lead…

Toasty: In defense of the Yankees, Effross and Burdi are ready in AAA and fully stretched out, Trevino is on his way back shortly, and Hamilton is throwing to hitters. The pen will be changing very shortly.

' src=

Trouty is a northeast guy and grew up as a major Yankees fan and he is the ingredient and spark needed for the Yankees to end their World Series Drought. They could probably acquire him just in exchange for 2 or 3 top prospects plus covering the rest of Trouty’s contract. Bonus points if they also acquire Votto and give him a new contract.

Please do it now, Mr. Cashman sir.

' src=

I’d rather give Soto $50 mill/year than that garbage deal.

' src=

Trout grew up a Phils fan. He is an Angel for life for better or (more likely) worse,

' src=

The last thing the Yankees need is another player who is always hurt. Pass on Trout.

' src=

This generation’s Ernie Banks. Except with Trout it was both the annual irrelevance of the club and his injuries. He’s another guy with amazing talent who insisted on playing about 20 lbs. overweight. And he’s paying the price.

' src=

Hopefully the jays are able to get him. I also want them to suck for the rest of the year and aim for a top 10 pick so I’m torn lol. Last I checked they were 9th in the majors

Queue the overly emotional and logically deficient Yankee fans.

' src=

And their odor of weed and Budweiser.

' src=

I think he has potential so someone will take a shot.

' src=

ELS season went to Hades in a handbasket rather quickly. At the end of April he was looking like the guy the Padres needed in the low and medium leverage situations. Then the bottom fell out when they needed to use him in high leverage situations. He hit NY and it got even worse.

' src=

Balboni. That’s a blast from the past name. Yankees need Hamilton and Burdi back ASAP.

' src=

Peraza, Dominguez, Vivas, and Durbin are some interesting pieces moving forward. I would like to see them all get a chance at the end of the season.

The team is in contention you’re not going to see 4 young guys getting regular playing time. Would be nice to see Peraza get some run at 3rd but we’ll probably park him on the bench and let the ghost of DJ and Oswaldo play 3rd. The Martian seems like the guy with the best shot to get some AB’s if they ever tire of Verdugo…

' src=

white sox fans are dismayed by the DFA…

' src=

De los Santos looked AWFUL in Monday night’s blowout loss to the worst team since the ‘62 Mets.

I watched the game with a buddy, and we both agreed it was possible the Yanks might cut Enyel.

Someone will inevitably use the phrase depth move and that someone will be instantly muted.

@Slider. I agree with you 100% The time v is now.

Yankees designate reliever enyel de los santos for assignment.

CHICAGO — The Yankees have sent Enyel De Los Santos packing just over two weeks after acquiring him at the trade deadline .

The club designated De Los Santos for assignment Wednesday, which came as somewhat of a surprise if only because of how soon it happened after the trade, though he had a rough introduction to the Yankees.

In five games, De Los Santos got tagged for 10 runs in 6 ¹/₃ innings, including seven runs in 1 ²/₃ innings against the White Sox on Monday night.

New Yankee reliever Enyel De Los Santos, wiping his face during a recent outing against the White Sox on Aug. 12, 2024, was designated for assignment on Wednesday.

“Tough call,” manager Aaron Boone said before the series finale at Guaranteed Rate Field. “Feel like he’s better than the last couple results he’s had where he’s had a couple tough outings.”

But the Yankees had to send out a pitcher in order to make room for Will Warren’s spot start (and satisfy the maximum of 13 pitchers on the 26-man roster).

It’s possible Warren could head right back to Triple-A after the start and a reliever like Scott Effross join the Yankees on Friday in Detroit.

The Yankees had just two pitchers on their staff with minor league options remaining — Luis Gil, who has been an important part of the rotation, and Jake Cousins, who has been throwing the ball well and recorded his first career save Tuesday night.

The club discussed potentially optioning Gil, with two off days coming up that would have allowed them to reconfigure their rotation and not need a fifth starter until Aug. 24, but Boone said he didn’t think it was “the right thing to do.”

Enyel De Los Santos, delivering a pitch during an Aug. 8, 2024. game against the Angels, got tagged for 10 runs in 6 ¹/₃ innings during his brief time with the Yankees, including seven runs in 1 ²/₃ innings against the White Sox on Monday night.

Acquiring De Los Santos from the Padres (along with a minor league reliever) cost the Yankees Brandon Lockridge, a depth outfielder at Triple-A who is eligible for the Rule 5 draft this offseason if he is not added to a 40-man roster.

Lou Trivino took a step closer to potentially impacting the Yankees this season by beginning a rehab assignment Wednesday with Double-A Somerset.

The veteran reliever has been out all year after undergoing UCL reconstruction surgery in May 2023, then had a setback this May when he experienced elbow inflammation .

He has not pitched in a game since the 2022 ALCS.

The Yankees have a $5 million team option on Trivino for next season, but it’s possible he could become an option for the Yankees bullpen by September.

Clarke Schmidt (lat strain) had another live batting practice session Wednesday in which he threw 32 pitches and simulated two innings.

The plan is for him to throw another Sunday while continuing to build his pitch count before going on a rehab assignment.

Jose Trevino (quad strain) played in his third rehab assignment game Wednesday night with Double-A Somerset, after which the Yankees were expected to reassess his status.

Gerrit Cole will start Friday’s series opener against the Tigers, followed by Carlos Rodon on Saturday and Marcus Stroman on Sunday at the Little League Classic.

Braves Get Big Boost With Outfielder Set to Return to the MLB Lineup

Atlanta Braves center fielder Michael Harris II

  • Atlanta Braves

One of the injured stars for the Atlanta Braves will be back in the lineup Wednesday.

The Braves announced on X (formerly Twitter) that they have reinstated outfielder Michael Harris II from the injured list and optioned fellow outfielder Eli White to Triple-A Gwinnett.

In order to bring Harris off the IL, the Braves also had to make room on their 40-man roster. To create space, the organization designated right-handed pitcher Parker Dunshee for assignment.

To make room on the 40-man roster, Atlanta designated RHP Parker Dunshee for assignment. — Atlanta Braves (@Braves) August 14, 2024

The Athletic's David O'Brien reported that the Braves will waste no time and place Harris in the starting lineup for Wednesday's matchup, which is the third contest of a four-game set with the San Francisco Giants. The Braves won the first two matchups in extra innings.

O'Brien implied on X that White was Atlanta's choice to option to Triple-A because the team didn't have the option to send "long-slumping" Adam Duvall to the minors.

White made a crucial catch in the outfield during Tuesday's victory for the Braves. Meanwhile, Duvall is 1-for-28 (0.36) with a walk and a hit batsman in his last 10 games. That slump has dropped Duvall's slash line to .178/.240/.315 for the 2024 season.

#Braves optioned OF Eli White to Triple A to open a roster spot for CF Michael Harris II, who’s activated from 60-day IL and will be in lineup tonight. White made a potential game-saving 9th-inning catch Tuesday. He has minor league options and long-slumping Adam Duvall doesn’t. — David O'Brien (@DOBrienATL) August 14, 2024

In Harris, the Braves getting back the 2022 National League Rookie of the Year winner. Harris has speed, some power and a strong glove. O'Brien didn't specify where Harris will play, but he's likely to resume his role in center field. He will also give manager Brian Snitker another leadoff option in the batting order with right fielder Ronald Acuña sidelined for the rest of the season.

Harris is batting .250 with 16 extra-base hits, 20 RBI and 8 stolen bases in 260 at-bats this season. Last year, he hit .293 with 18 home runs, 57 RBI and 20 steals.

White will return to Triple-A after going 6-for-23 (.261) in 15 games with the Braves . He had 3 extra-base hits, including a home run, 4 RBI and 4 runs in 23 plate appearances.

He is slashing .290/.390/.444 in 66 games at Triple-A this season.

Dunshee made one appearance for the Braves on August 8. He allowed 5 earned runs on 4 hits in 2.1 innings.

Detroit Tigers' Riley Greene scheduled to begin rehab assignment with Triple-A Toledo

assignment on youtube

The Detroit Tigers are preparing for the return of Riley Greene .

Greene, an All-Star outfielder who has been sidelined with a right hamstring strain , is scheduled to begin a rehab assignment Thursday with Triple-A Toledo. He was cleared to join the Mud Hens after completing running tests before Tuesday's game at Comerica Park.

The exact date for Greene's return to the Tigers will depend on how he feels and how he performs with the Mud Hens. He hasn't played for the Tigers since July 25.

"It was tough because we don't have much of the season left," Greene said, "and my goal is to finish it strong. Just really working hard and being smart about it. I passed every test. I'm feeling good."

CARP IS BACK: Tigers' Kerry Carpenter returns from back injury after missing more than 2 months

Greene, who turns 24 in late September, is hitting .264 with 17 home runs, 51 walks and 109 strikeouts across 101 games in the 2024 season, posting an .842 OPS. He made the All-Star team for the first time in his third MLB season.

His .842 OPS ranks 23rd and his 11.9% walk rate ranks 13th among 140 qualified hitters this season. When healthy, Greene is one of the best players in baseball.

"I want to do well on the field," Greene said, "but staying on the field is my goal."

[ MUST LISTEN: Make "Days of Roar" your go-to Detroit Tigers podcast, available anywhere you listen to podcasts ( Apple , Spotify ) ]

Greene landed on the injured list in late July after playing five games coming out of the All-Star break. He felt discomfort in his legs and tried to play through the issue, but eventually, he underwent tests that revealed a hamstring strain.

It marked Greene's second leg injury in as many years, as well as his fourth injury in three years. He spent one month on the injured list last season with a left fibula stress reaction .

"I think it was just as important for him mentally as it was for us to put a game plan forward," manger A.J. Hinch said about Greene passing his running tests. "Doing everything at full speed, and even some of his times down to first (base), which probably don't seem like a big deal, they're a big deal for him, mentally, in him knowing that he can go full speed and he's strong enough and he's healed."

AWARD WINNER: Riley Greene named Tigers' winner of Heart and Hustle Award from MLB alumni

As a result of injuries over the years, Greene has been limited to 93 games in 2022, 99 games in 2023 and 101 games so far in 2024. He is likely to get extra reps as the designated hitter down the stretch to ensure he stays healthy through the Sept. 29 finale.

The Mud Hens kickstarted a six-game road series Tuesday against the Charlotte Knights, the Triple-A affiliate of the Chicago White Sox. The series ends Sunday.

Greene will join Toledo for Thursday's game.

He looks forward to playing alongside first baseman Spencer Torkelson — one of his close friends — for the first time since the Tigers demoted Torkelson in early June to the Triple-A level.

"It's going to be good to see him," Greene said of Torkelson, hitting .248 with 10 home runs, 41 walks and 80 strikeouts in 55 games with the Mud Hens. "I'm sure we're going to chop it up and talk about things. Hopefully, we see him up here pretty soon."
