The main role of the Indian Army is to protect our country from external and internal threats, it has proved its subtly many times.

It has fought five major wars since independence and has successfully handled many smaller conflicts and won wars even when enemies had better weapons.

For example, in 1965 there were Patton tanks (gifted to them by the US) in Pakistan, it was considered invincible at the time.

India had nothing that could compete with those Patton tanks, but the Indian Army was able to defeat the Pakistani tanks in the Battle of Asal North.

Hawaldar Abdul Hameed mounted his jeep and destroyed six Pakistani tanks with a rifle in the back and was killed in an attempt to destroy the seventh.

For this he was awarded India’s highest military honor – Paramveer Chakra. It is believed that the Americans came to India to learn the methods and equipment by which their invincible Patton tanks were destroyed.

It is believed that India rejected his request.

The Indian Army also successfully handled many riots, for example the Godhra riots, 1992 Mumbai riots, 1984 riots etc.

It is also currently dealing with terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir and some North Eastern state currently has around 1.23 million people on active rolls, while others have 9.6 lakh rupees.

It has also produced many notable sports persons, who have brought it to our country. Some of them are Milkha Singh, Rajyavardhan Rathore, Vijay Kumar, and Major Dhyanchand etc.

Nehru realized His mistake and asked the person if he would like to become the army chief first?

On this, he made Lieutenant General K.M. Suggested the name of. Kariyappa who was also present there and thus became the first army chief.

It is high time we should improve our ways and start paying genuine respect to the soldiers otherwise a time may come when there will be no one to protect our motherland.

I used to think as a child what a soldier’s life is like.

I took it for granted that it should be my bed of opposing roses, which was like hell because I had to go to school, complete homework, learn answers, attend exams and exams and not have time to play.

On the other hand, I felt that a soldier has to move around in a smart green uniform with his gun.

The problem is, many adults feel the same way, not realizing how wrong they are. Most people think it is like a regular 9 to 5 job but it is far from reality.

I used to tell my father that I too wanted to be an army officer like him (he served in the Territorial Army as a junior commissioned officer).

When he was asked, “Why did I want to become an army officer?”

My answer was, “I will get a gun and a strong stick and with this I will kill the bad guys.” My father used to laugh out loud at this.

Now I realize how wrong I was. The reality is, this is one of the most difficult work environments and certainly not a bed of roses.

I came to know from the media about the working environment of the army but I soon came to know that it was half-true.

The only way by which I could get real information was by talking to the real “military”. Fortunately my father and some of his friends (who also served in the military) were willing to share their stories.

They told me that their training days were tough because the new environment was quite different from the civilian environment they used to use.

The 6 o’clock reporting time in civilian life may mean 6.15 or even 6.30, but in the military, 6.00 o’clock means exactly 6.00 o’clock.

My father and his colleagues were punished many times for being late. Punishment was usually quite difficult. Usually it was running with full gear for miles or something like that.

After PT in the morning, physical endurance training began and it continued for a few hours. The trainers were usually considered villains by the trainees.

Once my father and his colleagues were denied water after a ten mile run. His response was expected. He then joked about the instructor.

After that there were theory classes. It was evening time to play. Cadets played all types of sports including football, volleyball, basketball etc.

Time passed by and my father’s training ended.

He was posted in many places but had a posting which according to him was the most difficult. He also received a gallantry medal for that.

My father says that if you want a regular life then the army is not for you, but if you want to cross your limits and want your life to be a bit adventurous then you should join the army.

This day is especially celebrated in the respect of the Lieutenant General of India, Kodendara Madappa Carriappa. He was the first Army’s Commander-in-Chief of the independent India. Army Day is celebrated every year at the National Capital (New Delhi) where various parades and military shows are organized. On this day, all ministers and different officials gather at the Amar Javan Jyoti in New Delhi to pay special tribute to the soldiers who sacrificed their lives for saving ours. There is the biggest contribution of the Indian Army in maintaining peace and harmony in the country and as well as between other nations also.

There have been many cases in the history of the Indian Army where they have helped other nations to protect their independence. If we are able to enjoy freedom in this country and are safe here then it is all because of the Great Indian Army. When it comes to the protection of the country, nothing can refrain the soldier from performing his duty on the border. It does not matter if the there is a hottest dessert or the coldest glaciers but a soldier will perform his duty regardless unfavorable situations to protect his motherland. The history of this country is the biggest witness of the greatness of the Indian Army. The Indian Army has displayed great courage and valour the battlefields since its formation whether it’s in the Indo-China or Indo-Pak wars and many more. Our Great Indian Army has always displayed its great level of bravery and fierceness in front of the entire world. Our army had never backed down when it comes to fight for the friendship among countries and maintaining peace in the world. They have always fought for the fair in the past and will always be at the side of righteous.

There are many cases of the Great Indian Army where it had helped other countries to fight for their freedom and maintain peace in their country like France, Bangladesh etc. they have also fought in Europe, Africa and the Middle East in order to maintain peace and stability amongst all countries. But most importantly, our country had never attacked any country in the entire world in its whole history. Indian Army is the world’s best army when it comes to the righteousness and never giving up spirit. Our army has never ever waved the white flag in the battlefield and the only thing they believe in is the spirit of “Do or Die”.

They are always ready to sacrifice their lives for the country without even thinking twice about themselves and their family. They leave all of their comforts and family behind to serve the country and not everyone has the equal courage as displayed by a soldier. It takes a whole lot of guts to have that kind of courage but also when you have a feeling of a true patriot and love for the country in heart then it automatically becomes easy to sacrifice anything and everything.

As a citizen of this country, it is a duty of all of us to pay respect and be beholden of the real life superheroes by the efforts of whom we all are safe from terrors. Every day and night irrespective of the weather conditions, different climates or unavailability of facilities, they stand tall on the borders of India in order to save crore of its citizens. The record of our great Indian Army is still reigning high in the world. It is our moral duty to support our hardworking soldiers for what they are doing and help them in making a strong and safe country who cannot be defeated by anyone around the globe.

Today, this very special event has been organized in our college on the beautiful occasion of the Indian Army Day and I am feeling very privileged and proud at the same time for hosting this event. We can feel a very strong vibe in this auditorium as everybody is super excited and looking forward to this event but before starting with the performances, I would like to deliver a speech expressing my love and respect for this country.

Since my childhood, I always have a dream of joining the Indian Army to serve for my mother country and I am still aiming only for it. Today we are looking at our female soldiers and it is very inspirational for me as it gives me the feeling of patriotism and women power. It is very fortunate for all of us that we live in a country which have one of the strongest, toughest and undefeated army in the world. We all should understand the value of such a great army and should join it if we are capable.

Our government should understand the value of such a great army and try to further improve their facilities for uniforms, arms/weapons, food etc; so that they will have a kind of support from the country that will help them in winning for future and more youngsters of the country can join the Indian Army to serve for their country.

Duties of Soldiers

Soldiers are posted in extreme weather conditions like freezing cold, scorching heat and heavy rains. They fight between dense forests and snow-covered mountains. Furthermore, they are always on the field protecting their country.

Good Evening Ladies and gentlemen.  I am here before you today to present a speech on Indian Army.

Indian army is one of the outstanding armies in the world. Ensuring national security and national unity is the main focus of the Indian army. Our army is fighting against external aggression and internal threats, and maintain peace and security within Indian borders.

Except for war and battle against terror, it also conducts humanitarian rescue operations during natural calamities and other disturbances, like Operation Surya Hope. It is a major part of national power alongside the Indian Navy and the Indian Air Force. Indian army has also fought four big wars with neighboring Pakistan and one with China. Other important operations undertaken by the army include Operation Vijay, Operation Meghdoot and Operation Cactus.

The Indian army came into existence with independence. India army has also fought in both world war 1 and world war 2. The Indian Army is operationally and geographically divided into seven commands.comprises more than 80% of the country’s active defense personnel.

Presently our army is 2nd largest standing army in the world, with active troops and 960,000 reserve troops. The army has its infantry modernization program F-INSAS. The Indian army is also upgrading and acquiring new assets for its armored, artillery and aviation branches.

Basic Divisions

There are 9 basic field divisions of the Indian army. Let me brief it one by one.

1) Command: The Indian Army has six operational commands and one training command. Every command has a general officer commanding-in-chief (GOC-in-C), known as the army commander.

2) Corps: A command generally consists of two or more corps. There is a total of 14 Corps. Each corp is commanded by a general officer commanding (GOC), known as the corps commander, who holds the rank of lieutenant general. Also, each corps is formed of three or four divisions.

3) Division: Each division is headed by GOC (division commander) in the rank of major general. It usually consists of three to four Brigades. Currently, the Indian Army has 40 Divisions.

4) Brigade: A brigade generally consists of around 3,000 combat troops with supporting elements. An Infantry Brigade is composed of three infantry battalions.

5) Battalion: Composed of four rifle companies. A battalion commander who is a Colonel heads it.

6) Company: Composed of three platoons. Commanded by a company commander.

7) Battery: Comprising either 3 or 4 sections, in artillery and air defense units.

8) Platoon: Composed of three sections.[119] Commanded by a platoon commander.

9) Section: Smallest military outfit, with a strength of 10 personnel.

The DRDO has developed a range of weapons for the Indian Army ranging from small arms, artillery, radars and the Arjun tank. Under the umbrella administration of the Ordnance Factories, all Indian Military small-arms are manufactured.

The principal Firearm manufacturing facilities are in Ichhapore, Cossipore, Kanpur, Jabalpur, and Tiruchirapalli. Tanks and Armoured vehicles are Arjun MK-III, Futuristic Battle Tank (FMBT), Abhay IFV, TATA Kestrel. Missiles include Intercontinental Ballistic Missiles, Cruise Missiles, Tactical Ballistic Missiles, Anti-Tank Guided Missiles, and many other categories.

Love for our mother India creates the firm base of the Indian army. He sacrifices his life for the protection of the nation’s pride. Every soldier is a true patriot and is always ready to lay down his life in the service of motherland. Our nation’s protection and safety are totally dependent on our soldiers.

Indian Army not only fights in the war but also take care of the rescue operations when natural calamities occur like cyclones, earth-quakes. We must feel the pain of the great sacrifice which our Indian Army is doing every day to keeping our country, our people together and safe. Thus, we all salute our Indian heroes and pay homage to the supreme sacrifice which our army brothers are doing every day.

• Indo China War 1962: Also known as the Sino-Indian War, this war was fought between India and China on the pretext of a disputed Himalayan border. However, this was not the only reason why China attacked India. There were many other issues too. During this war, the soldiers fought in harsh climatic conditions on the mountains. The war continued for almost a month and China emerged winner.
• Indo Pak War of 1965: India and Pakistan have always been at loggerheads. While India tries to maintain peace and use peaceful means to settle any kind of issue between the two countries, Pakistan is known for using force and attacking our country. It called for a war with India for the first time in 1965. The war continued for seventeen days and resulted in thousands of causalities. It was called off only after the intervention of USA and Soviet Union.
• Indo Pak War of 1971: Pakistan attacked the Indian border but the Indian army was quick to respond to it. Our soldiers fought bravely and won the battle after fighting for almost two weeks. However, numerous people were killed and several of them were injured on both the sides during this war. Pakistan especially suffered huge losses during this war. It lost a major chunk of its army, navy and air force personnel.
• Kargil War: The war was fought between India and Pakistan in the year 1999. It started when the Pakistani troops crossed the Line of Control and crept into India’s Kargil district. Indian soldiers acted bravely and wisely during this war. Their mental and physical strength helped India get back the region encroached by the Pakistani military troops. Pakistani military was shaken badly after this war as it suffered a major defeat.

We are proud of our soldiers and are grateful to them for ensuring a peaceful environment. We respect them with all our heart and salute them for their heroic acts. They are the true heroes.
