Home of the 2023 u13 County Cup Winners

Every Cricket club which attains Club Mark Status must have in place a development  plan which is agreed annually at the AGM by the club. The goal is to make this known to the local community, players & our freeholder so that we can get everyone's buy in to achieve it. Hitting the targets enshrined in this Club Development Plan requires everyone's input and as a club we shape this plan in order to deliver the cricket that our local community and players are keen to play.

Each year the club's membership will be surveyed and these results can be found HERE  under the heading 'Annual Survey Results'. These anonymous surveys are then used to revise the Club's Development Plan. This page will be kept updated with the statuses of each year's goals as the club committee works towards achieving them. 

Goal: Increase Operational Income to £16k (Excluding Nets financing) from £10k in 2020 and 14k in 2019 

Status: ACHIEVED 01-Oct-21

The Club surpassed the target, managing the highest level of earnings since 2015 through effective collection of match fees and membership subscriptions as well as incredibly successful cricket camps run by Liam Smith with Gaby Reeves and a team of support coaches. Charlie Tuke-Hastings also played a massive role with brilliantly run Allstars/Dynamos programmes. Within both, the highest levels of coach to child ratios were maintained. 

Goal: Identify replacement for Steve Willard as Treasurer

Status: ACHIEVED 01-Dec-21

Steve Willard has served as Club Treasurer since Simon Gordan-Walker stopped doing it. He has not played for the club for many years and the time has come for some one else to step up. Will Bathurst volunteered and will try to step in Steve's shoes following his election at the AGM.        

Goal: Replace Storm Damaged (late 2020) Nets for the 2021 Season

Status: ACHIEVED - 06-Jun-21

The project was delivered on time and with a small loss to the club balance sheet. A two net fully enclosed £30k facility installed by Durant Sports replaced our aged facility and could only be achieved through a grant made to us by Enovert and large anonymous donation. 

Goal: Complete First Full Season of 3rd XI League Fixtures in CDCA League

Status: ACHIEVED

Under the leadership of Mark Leadbeater, supported by Fred Bayliss and the incredible efforts of our club skipper, Jody Lawrence, the 3rd XI put out a side every weekend in a heavily COVID affected summer, including one weekend when 12 members of the club were isolating. Results were secondary to fulfilling fixtures and getting used to the Ampney base for a full season. 

Goal: Maintain 1st XI and 2nd XI in their Current Leagues

Status: PARTIALLY ACHIEVED

The First XI survived a late relegation scare to remain in Division 1 of the County League but after a poor season with the bat, the Second XI were relegated out of the County League and back to Division 1 of the District. 

Goal: Regain Clubmark Status

Status: FAILED

The Club passed all steps of the Clubmark assessment process except renewal of Club Safeguarding Officer qualifications due to COVID related issues preventing attendance of one of the few available courses. Renewals have been booked and two club members will be joining to course in 2022 to rectify this requirement ahead of the season. 

ORGANISATION , GOVERNANCE & FINANCE

Goal: Regain CLUBMARK Status

Status: COMPLETE

This was finally achieved in the 2022 season with accreditation lasting until 2025. The sole point of Safeguarding Officers renewing qualifications was dealt with and the club now has two – Claire Kilby & Will Bathurst. With all eight in-house coaches and relevant club officials holding up to date DBS checks, we were in compliance with the Safe Hands Management system on all 52 separate roles registered. This is a huge task initially and reflects the number of volunteer roles required to run a club of this size and then do so in compliance with ECB expectations.  

Goal: Adjust 2022 Season Membership Tiers 

The goal was to reduce the financial burden on large club families with parents and children who both play and we agreed this at the last AGM along with reducing costs for volunteers. This was achieved without a financial impact on the club even though large family fees were capped. We also introduced Social Memberships for the first season.  

Goal: Increase Focus on Batting Coaching across all sections of the Club

The 2021 player and parent surveys revealed a desire in the club to increase our batting coaching offering. Several coaches qualified as Level 2s in the off season with particular batting attention given in the Under 11s, 13s & 15s. There is always more to do here. 

Goal: Negotiate a lease at Ampney Crucis & Modified lease at Englands

Status:  95% COMPLETE

To qualify for funding, a slightly altered lease is required at Englands given the current termination clause. We are tenants are Englands with very little security for any financial investment. Our landlords the Playing Field & Allotment Charity who manage Englands on behalf of the Charity Commission are aware of this issue and we hope to have it resolved soon. Ampney Crucis Cricket Club has affiliated itself directly with the ECB so a lease is less relevant there now save as to the sharing of costs of machinery and maintenance. 

Goal: Remove Pitchero from the Club organisation (both New website and availability) 

Status:  COMPLETE

In 2021, Several members fell foul of clever phishing advertisements on the Pitchero website & App which that company took no responsibility for. We therefore took the decision to move all of the club’s administration to an entirely new website, availability and payment system which was a Herculean job to get done in the off season. This was however achieved over the Christmas period and the new combination of Website and Spond has also saved the club five hundred pounds while being welcomed by members. 

Goal: Improve Club Presence with Neighbours & Village

Status:  ON TRACK

We have done a lot towards this in 2022 holding the Beer Festival for the Jubilee with £750  contributed to village bodies. We also wrote monthly articles in the new Village magazine, the Poulton Eye and posted in the village Facebook group. There is always more to do and we have plans for the 2023 season to build on this.  

Goal: Youth Section Management Structure Changes

Liam Smith left at the end of 2022 while Neil Cheesewright indicated a desire to step down from youth section management & Gaby Reeves’ county commitments meant that she was unable to coach the Under 11s. As a result, Max Arnold, James Newman & Will Bathurst all trained as Level 2 coaches with Fred Bayliss completing the Level 1. Mark Robbins, another Level 2 came in to coach the under 15s and Will handled the youth section admin as far as he could, to get us through the season. We ended the season stronger than we started it but are looking forward to Lucy Ireland taking over this incredibly important role for the 2023 season.

Goal: Club President & Chairman Succession Planning

Rosemarie Chapman & David Dunn are both stepping down from their respective roles at the AGM after 10 & 23 years in these respectively. David will move to President and the club will have a new Chair for the 2023 season

SENIOR CRICKET

Goal: Recruit First XI Squad Members & Overseas Player for 2022 Season

Three new players joined the 1st XI squad, helping week to week availability for the team and replacing regular players who had either moved away or could not commit. Each of them has had a brilliant impact on the club settling in right away and helping the 2nd XI maintain consistent selection of a core group without these having to play 1st XI cricket. They were in addition to regular new players coming in for the 2nd and 3rd XI teams as well. In addition, despite multiple challenges, we secured an overseas player for the club in the season. The committee cannot thank the families who offered Kieran Yould somewhere to stay for the summer enough. The Burrs in particular were incredibly generous in their housing of Kieran and the club must look at this for 2023, should we have another overseas player. It is a major logistical challenge taking in an overseas but there is no doubt of the benefit, particularly if he/she can coach as well.

Goal: First XI Top four finish in GCCL Div 1, Second & Third XIs to consolidate and aim for Top 50% of tables. 

Status:  FAILED

The First XI finished 6th after a strong start, strong finish and weak middle for the season, 29 players turned out for the side in 2022 versus 23 in 2021 and 2019. The Second XI had a stellar season losing just three games and winning the CDCA league to bounce straight back up to the GCCL with over 30 players playing for the team for the third season in a row showing the importance of a big squad with eight players playing ten or more games forming the core of the squad. 49 players turned out for the 3rd XI in its first full league season and they finished 9th out of 13 in Division 2 of the district. It was a great season however and on two weekends this season, the club could have fielded a 4th XI.  

WOMEN & GIRLS CRICKET 

Goal: Target Ladies Tour for the 2022 Season. 

The 2021 Club Survey revealed a desire to hold a Ladies Tour in 2022 and  this was done to Kent following  a Pre-Season ladies planning meeting in January which also addressed Ladies and Girls leagues selection for 2022.  The ladies team also went to several cricket games together. 

Goal: Adjust Ladies Coaching in line with 2021 Survey Feedback

The Wide range of abilities in the Ladies’ section is a challenge for any coach and this season as we looked to both cut the cost of paying Rob Watson to coach the squad and also improve the offering, our two Ladies coaches – Philippa Dunn and Gaby Reeves coached when they could backed up by the clubs other Level 2 coaches. There’s still work to do here, particularly to take a load off Philippa’s shoulders as we move ahead, the squad likely loses Emilia Powell and Gaby Reeves for the 2023 season.  

Goal: Start Creating Pathway to retain more girls in the club to turn into Ladies players/members

For the 2023 season the club offered via Will Bathurst girls coaching on a Monday and Wednesday afternoon. This attracted decent numbers but not enough for a squad however the purpose in year 1 was to offer a flexible training offering for girls to develop their games with other Girls. As this initiative grows, we hope to attract more numbers and develop a girl’s squad. The club will then offer dedicated girls cricket but also mixed cricket at age group level for those who want to play it. Plenty of options are available to girls from Softball tournaments on so the goal will be to match desire to this. 

Goal: Appraise and where Possible Improve Ladies' Changing/Washroom Facilities for 2022

This is going to be a problem for several years. The pavilion was built in a era when open showers were mandated by child protection regulations which have since been completely revised & it was also done when very few girls/women were actually playing cricket. We have put sanitary bins in the Ladies loos at Ampney Crucis and will in the 2023 season offer complementary sanitary products at both club locations. The reality is that to properly cater for women & girls, we need to dramatically change the layout of the Englands Pavilion. The desire is there however the project is incredibly expensive and will require planning permission and freeholder support. Making this change would address the changing issues for mixed cricket and ensure that facility provision is equal. We are undergoing a Female accreditation currently which is suggesting other improvements and will keep studying the best way to achieve this.  . 

JUNIOR/YOUTH CRICKET

Goal: Increase Focus on Parents/Guardians

The committee recognised that it is daunting joining the club as a parent, especially as at times, it has felt that there is a large youth section and then a senior section and the two have not mixed very much. Meanwhile the administrative burden on parents is vast these days quite aside from the hours spent on a boundary or waiting at training. This year was year 1 of trying to build accessible information reserves on our new website and making parents aware of club social events & information for them to join. Surveys indicate good awareness of this but low attendance. We have a lot more work to do here but 2022 was a good start and our joint club awards day was well received and will be built on in 2023. 

Goal: Foster greater squad cohesion with wider club

For 2022 we need to bring the youth & senior sections of the club together. The committee has agreed that the end of the 2022 season should see a sole awards day but we are also planning if COVID permits, pre-season get togethers, socials and matches. This planning now includes squad organised and delivered social events through the season as well as the Queen's Jubilee centred around a beer festival. It's shaping up to be a good balance of social events and what is practical to deliver. 

Goal: Reduce Costs for Larger Families

Status:   COMPLETE

Having a greater number of playing members in the family should always be encouraged and our old structure of memberships meant a heavy cost structure for families who have both senior and junior players. This has now been addressed in our new membership fee structure. Additional Child costs have been capped at two and family memberships put in place. 

Goal: In response to Parents Surveys, improve batting coaching offering. 

Status:   ON TRACK

The 2021 Club surveys revealed that across the youth section we needed to focus on Batting coaching across the age groups. This has been a core focus in under 11s, 13s and 15s and this year’s surveys reveal that we have done this to the detriment of Bowling and Fielding development which will be 2023 targets.

SOCIAL /FUNDRAISING

Goal: Squad organised club social events through the 2022 Season. 

Status:  PARTIALLY ACHIEVED

The Ladies and the First XI managed to lay on excellent club social events at the club this season but the second and third XI events did not materialise. As well as bringing the club together for a good evening, these events were seriously important for the pavilion finances with a thousand pounds put across the bar within usual trading hours on both evenings. We’ll target squad events again next season focussing less on a theme and just volunteers being at the club to serve drinks and food. The Beer Festival was a huge success thanks to Philippa Dunn and her team and it was incredibly well attended with elements of it, such as a regular village quiz held at the cricket club requested by our neighbours for 2023. This was despite some pretty horrific weather at certain times of it!  

Goal: Secure new Shirt Sponsor and Kit for 2022 Season 

The club has put in place a new club shop with Gray-Nicolls for the 2022 Season and our new shirt "sponsor" will is a Goucestershire charity called Frank Water who we are partnering up with for the 2022 Season.

Goal: Introduce Social Memberships

These were approved at the first year rate of £10 at the AGM so that non-playing members can still feel part of the club and welcome to use the facilities. We hope these appeal to local villagers, parents, former players and relatives. 

MARKETING/PROMOTION

Goal: Increase use of Social Media as tool for marketing the club

The clubs Twitter & Instrgram accounts are embedded in the new Club Website and logins will be shared with more officials to post content in line with the club's social media policy. 

Goal: Simplify Communication with Club Members & Stakeholders

We now have a lot of dedicated email club addresses that club officials will assume control of when they take up position so that these stay consistent and people know how to contact them, this has proved especially important for leagues and the County Foundation. Membership communication is primarily through Spond and WhatsApp still but we have moved more of this onto Social Media channels and the club Website and will continue to build on this through 2023. We need to do more during the season as it is quite clear that once the season finishes, club members move onto other things/sports! 

Goal: Maintain Clubmark Standards

Status:  COMPLETED

Clubmark was re-attained in the 2023 season.  

GOAL: Announce all key dates for the Season by January 1, 2023

All key dates for 2023 were announced  by the start of the calendar year so that everyone has them. 

GOAL: Increase Club Communication from Committee

Leveraged new website & Spond to inform club membership & parents of process towards targets both CDP and Fundraising. Regular letters from Chairman sent.

GOAL: Renegotiate Lease & Governance Structure at Englands. 

Status: BUMPED TO 2024

Was not completed in the 2023 season but with the help of the Playing Field & Allotment Trustees it will be in 2024, We as the cricket club will be assuming a full repairing lease for Englands and the Pavilion reporting directly to the Trustees. This structure will mean at end to the Englands Management Committee and give the cricket club the ability to capitalise on bar profits when needed, while also building sinking funds for repairs of key equipment. This will enable us to unify bank accounts and the football club will become our tenants in the Winter. 

GOAL: Secure Credit Terms from main vendors in order to improve Cash Flow.

Changed bar  supplier from LWC to Inn Express, securing 14 DD terms in the process, Jesse Smith meat supply on 30 Days. Both enabling us to sell prodoct before we need to pay for it. 

GOAL: Complete integration of bank accounts and Accounting into FreeAgent software

Freeagent now handing all accounting across all three club bank accounts handles all bill payments and invoicing enabling cash flow projections and automatically chasing past due invoices. 

Goal: Invest in the Englands Pitch and raise our ground marks year-on-year

From the 2023 season, we will employ Willow Turf Care to look after the square enabling existing volunteers to focus on other aspect of Ground Maintenance. This requires circa 15k of annual funding which must be met by the club. Need to look at plugging gaps in the playing base for the 2024 season.  

GOAL: Secure County Grant Funding to upgrade social areas in Englands Pavilion. 

Status:  BUMPED TO 2024

Three main aims of this 1) renovating the kitchen. 2) Improving the bar serving area & cupboard and 3) Improving the internal seating. Doing this will help make the bar a year round destination particularly for winter organised events for fundraising. 

GOAL: Buy additional roller for Ampney Crucis Ground

In order to continue the gradual redevelopment of Amney Crucis as a location for club cricket we have procured a roller for the ground in a 50:50 purchase plan with the trustees of that ground. We have first option on purchasing the balance at market value at a time in the future. 

GOAL: Replace Aging Bar Equipment in the Pavilion 

Identified replacement brewer and install during the 2023 Season. Hawkstone was identified, approved by membership and is now in place.  Installation done at zero cost to club. 

GOAL: Purchase Water Tractor for Square

Identifed with Willow Turfcare a suitable irrigation tool for the square which would work with our pressure and help keep the ground wet when needed for wicket prep. Purchased.

GOAL: Purchase New BBQ

Selected and purchase a new BBQ with wider cooking area to offer more food for Youth Training nights and Saturday post game food at the pavilion. This increased income and encouraged better social atmosphere at the club. Doubling food revenue was a major financial target for the year in terms of sustainable income and we achieved this.  

Goal: By the 2023 Season we want to target having a full time Ladies Development Officer

Status:  PUSHED TO 2025

To really Capitalise on the potential in girls and ladies growth in the game, we need a volunteer on the committee who understands their needs and focusses on this full time, shaping the club development plan and allocating funding as required. We are going to move this to a 2025 Development Goal. For the moment female cricket development resting with Ladies Captain and Chair. 

Goal: Settle New Committee in to Roles & Procedures

For the 2023 Season the committee has a new Chair, Secretary & Youth Section Manager. This is all working well along with the other officers in the club such as fundraising & sponsorship. The new Grounds committee is in place as well and work is under way on the square. 

Goal: 1st XI Consolidate in GCCL Div 1, 2nd XI to retain position in GCCL Div 7 & 3rd XI to finish in top half of Table.  

Sadly both 1st and 2nd XIs were relegated from their respective Legues in 2023. 

Goal: Investment in Englands & Ampney Crucis Pavilions to offer proper changing facilities for female players

Status : MODIFIED

As the club goes from strength to strength in terms of welcoming female players into the league sides, we recognise that we do need to dramatically improve our changing facilities to maximise the welcome for and make playing on Saturdays as enjoyable an welcoming as possible.  We have drawn up plans to add a dedicated third changing room for female players at Englands and this cost is material at just under 300k even before seeking planning permission and the support of our freeholders. With our two best female players moving on from the club, the reality is that Ampney Crucis is the primary location where we will face an issue and there is very little we can do here given the lack of lease we currently have there. We will adapt this goal to instead focus on female changing rooms and provisions for female players. 

Goal: Achieve Silver 'Female Friendly Accreditation' from the Girls Sports Club

Status : BUMPED TO 2024

A new accreditation scheme has launched via an excellent initiative at the Girls Sports Club, we are already a long way down this path via our clubmark accreditation and coaching standards however there are others elements we can certainly improve such as ensuring that our female members have access to free sanitary products and properly equipped faciltiies. We do now however offer free sanitary products and are now on the path to improvement for our female members. 

Goal:  Continue to Develop Girls Cricket Offering with Girls cricket sides feeding into Women's team

Status:  UNDERWAY

This started in 2022 but we want to aim to bring in more opportunities for girls to play cricket and build the identity of the female offering within the club. We need to work on retaining our girls coming to the club at u9 level and keeping them on a development pathway as valued members. Girls cricket has taken a big knock in 2023 and with the CDCA women's league folding we face an uncertain future. There was good initial demand for Girls cricket from teenagers but this actually never materialised and we closed the section down in 2023. Several of the girls who would have joined the girls section instead went to the Cotswold hub. 

Goal: Restart Under 7s & Relaunch Under 9s Cricket

Following lack of sustained take up in the ECB Allstars & Dynamos programmes as well as local competition with other clubs offering the same programme with few differentiating factors. We voted at the AGM to  cease the programme and offer instead proper membership based cricket cricket for young players which formed the bedrock of the club in the days before Allstars & Dynamos. Of those doing the ECB Programmes only 15 children from well over 100 have stayed with the club  and of these only three have been with the club every year since they were on the National Programmes. Our strength as a club is cost effective cricket and coaching for families and we focussed on this to grow numbers and retain talent. This has proved seriously successful in 2023 with 12 new under 7s and 20 Under 9s. 

Goal: Restructure Junior Training & Management

We moved u7s, 9s, 11s & 13s training to Friday nights with lead coaches and support coaches in sections around the ground offering differing coaching. This focusSED the club training evenings to Thursdays and Fridays, enabling games and spare evenings on the Square. On the nights we ran these, we have had upwards of 80 Children at training with wonderful club atmospheres and buy in. 

Goal: Add two more Level 2 coaches & at least two Level 1s to the coaching team

We added two level 2s to take our number to 9 backed up by three level 1s and several coaching assistants. 

Goal: Adjust the cricket camp offering to banded age group levels & minimum ages to help both coaches and attendees. 

Lower age range put in place on the Camps for this year, early interest levels are very good. 

Goal: Introduce Squad Capacity & Numerical Targets for Age Groups

Hard Ball Capacity reached at 35 for for both U11s and u13s. Still have capacity in all other age groups. 

Goal: Survey u13s who will progress to u15s Age Group in 2024 as to preferred playing options for that season

Status:  COMPLETE

Completed and we lose several to new schools until the middle of thge summer, We do retain enough though to field an u15s team in the CDCA league. 

Goal: Supercharge Fundraising efforts

We dramatically changed income, continued  cost management and supercharged fundraising. We hit fundraising targets thanks entirely to the success of the youth section and had we not had to hire a roller we would have made a profit on the year. Given that we didn't hold a beer festival in 2023, a huge result. 

Goal: Replace Christmas Dinner with end of Season Event at Club

Held successful family and club awards presentation evening in marquee at the club. Big Fundraising evening and success, great way to combine the vary teams but poorly attended by senior members. Need to reconsider format for 2024.

Goal: Maintain Clubmark Status

Clubmark was re-attained in the 2022 season so the goal is therefore to maintain this in 2024 with maintenance of the Safe Hands Management Status and update of club policies the main things to keep on top of. 

Goal: Agree New Lease with Landlords

This has been 20 years in the making ever since the club installed a new pavilion at Englands we have wanted greated control and security in our tenancy while our landlords want fewer financial and legal liabilities. Basic terms of the lease have been agreed with our landlords and were approved at the AGM and a new lease is now in the drafting stage. We will assume a year round repairing tenancy at Englands in return for higher lease costs with these funds going towards the upkeep of the wider land and infrastructure at Englands. 

Goal: Should Lease Be Executed, Unify Three Bank Accounts Consider VAT registration

If the new lease is agreed, we will unify the three seperate bank accounts and look into VAT registration to reduce financial inefficiency. Investigate other financing options

Goal: Buy new roller for Englands to replace defunct HAMM roller. Remove old Mower. 

A Poweroll 12 has been ordered and should be with us at the start of the season. This is at a cost of £14,831. the club will contribute £4k, further donations of £4k have been received and will be swollen by Gift Aid, we are applying for an interest free loan to cover the remainder. 

Goal: Buy New Englands Mowing Option

Status:  ON TRACK   

We faced material challenges with our outfield in 2023. The Tractor routinely broke down and is not easy to operate and with maintenance costs spiralling, the gang mowers are at end of life given cost of repair versus value. A fairway mower purchase at circa 12-15k would be an option but it requires expensive annual servicing, operation and we do not have a spare shed for storage. Therefore at the AGM the decision was taken to join the number of clubs moving to a robot mowing option and we are raising funds currently. A cha nge in the available grants for a robot mower from the ECB means that we are funding the difference and this is underway. It is a huge challenge and will rely on external engagement. The mower will free up volunteer time and keep noise down for our neighbours. It will also improve the quality of the grass. 

Goal: Purchase additional cover plastic for main covers and new complete roll-on covers for Youth wickets

Frames for the covers at Englands are fine but we will need to start replacing the blue cover material as funds allow. Cost of these will be £700-800 per cover. If we have funds this year, buying additional covers to cover the youth wickets for their important fixtures is an additional goal so we can continue to look after our youth section. Depending on how 2024 progresses as a fundraising year, 

Goal: Train 3 new Coaches for 2024 Season get coaching pool to 20

In order to release pessure on the Chairman, he needs to pass on his current Under 11s coaching duties to  new coaches so that he can focus on running the club. Equally Club President David Dunn has signalled that 2024 may be his last coaching season. We   have identified three new lead coaches  (Level 1s and 2s) for the 2024 season in order to provide the internal staff to enable this. Qualified Coaching support will take our coaching team to in excess of 20 this season enabling our coaches to have time off from the weekly commitment. 

Goal: Increase Female Coaching Staff to 7 for 2024 Season

As things stand in February we have seven female coaches from Level 2 through to support coach committed to helping in the 2024 season as part of our coaching pool. 

Goal: Draft New Code of Conduct for Senior Players

Ahead of the 2024 Senior Season, enshrine in the code of conduct for senior players the requirement to do shifts on the bar and also set up the ground and pack it away for league matches. Spreading this load out will  sustain volunteers and increase participation/awareness in what is required to run a cricket club amongst those who play here. 

Goal: 1st XI to target Promotion back to GCCL Division 1

Status:   NOT YET STARTED

Following relegation last year the 1st XI Squad will target getting back into Division 1 of the GCCL.  

Goal: 2nd XI to consolidate in CDCA Division 1

The 2nd XI needs to rebuild for at least a season as older players play less and our junior players come in to take over. Goal for the season will be consolidating in CDCA div 1. 

Goal: 3rd XI to target full season of matches and four wins

2023 was a weak season for the 3rd XI in terms of avaiaibility due primarily to problems in 1st a 2nd XI squads. We need to consilidate our squad, get more players and target winning four games. 

Goal: Begin Women's Soft Ball Team to complement the hard ball offering and offer development curve for Women

Softball cricket is underway, The women have trained all Winter and are now considering options for cricket in the summer. Training will be on a Friday evening to maximise attendance and increase the club feel. Enables Mums to have children coached but then also have their own squad. Full field mowing will be core to this.

Goal: Focus on Under 13s and above girls cricket. 

Status:   ABANDONED

We are not in a place to offer a dedicated u13s girls team but this is something we can work towards. The  members we thought we would have to provide the backbone of the team have instead moved to the Cotswold Hub. This development point will sadly need to be shelved for the moment. We are discussing the possibility of an initial soft ball girls offering. 

Goal: Find solution to the folding of the CDCA Women's League 

CDCA women's league has folded and there are no viable alternatives open to our senior women. We just have to make our own way here. We will arrange Sunday hardball friendlies in the season and move ladies training to Friday nights to be alongside the softball squad. Senior women will also be encouraged to join Saturday side training on Thursday evenings. 

Goal: Begin Under 5s Coaching

We have had considerable interest this year from parents enquiring as to whether we could start under 5s training in the 2024 Season and we are certainly going to explore this given the success of Under 7s coaching in 2023. Recruitment to the squad has begun and we have a coaching team for it as well. 

Goal: Develop u15s

With many of our talented u13s moving into the u15s age group we need to develop the section and ensure they have fixtures for the 2024 season. 

Goal: Club Shirt for each Junior Player

We tried this in 2023 but need to get it across the line in 2023, supplying each youth member with a club shirt so that they feel part of the club, We are gathering prices and figuring out a cost strategy, Potentially securing a new youth shirt sponsor to aid in this even if this merely reduces the cost price to parents. This could be done by squad. Currently on track but work to do. 

Goal: Launch Fundraising Committee, engage more club members and parents

Status:  ON TRACK

The Fundraising committee is launched and will meet for the first time at end February, goal is to share the load of fundraising for individual projects/events but coordinate this. 

Goal: Hold a 2024 Beer Festival

We will need to hold another beer festival in 2024 to balance the books. We have assembled a committee to run this and picked a weekend at the end of June to hold it. 

Goal: Hold a 2024 Golf Day

2023 event was a big success and successful fundraising, we need to try and repeat this in 2024. Team assembled to run it, trying to fix a date.

Goal: Regain Clubmark Status

Clubmark was re-attained in the 2022 season until the 2025. With recent annual goals being to maintain the core qualifiers for this of Safe Hands Management System compliance & up do date policies & club management procedures.

Ideally, you and/or your team members have direct experience in managing indoor sports complex businesses. If so, highlight this experience and expertise. But also highlight any experience that you think will help your business succeed.

If your team is lacking, consider assembling an advisory board. An advisory board would include 2 to 8 individuals who would act as mentors to your business. They would help answer questions and provide strategic guidance. If needed, look for advisory board members with experience in owning or managing an indoor sports complex business or successfully running a gymnastics center or public sports park.

Financial Plan

Your financial plan should include your 5-year financial statement broken out both monthly or quarterly for the first year and then annually. Your financial statements include your income statement, balance s heet, and cash flow statements.

Income Statement

An income statement is more commonly called a Profit and Loss statement or P&L. It shows your revenue and then subtracts your costs to show whether you turned a profit or not.

In developing your income statement, you need to devise assumptions. For example, will you see 50 sports players per day? Or, will you have more than 20 teams on contract for league play each season? And will sales grow by 2% or 10% per year? As you can imagine, your choice of assumptions will greatly impact the financial forecasts for your business. As much as possible, conduct research to try to root your assumptions in reality.

Balance Sheets

Balance sheets show your assets and liabilities. While balance sheets can include much information, try to simplify them to the key items you need to know about. For instance, if you spend $50,000 on building out your indoor sports complex business, this will not give you immediate profits. Rather it is an asset that will hopefully help you generate profits for years to come. Likewise, if a lender writes you a check for $50,000, you don’t need to pay it back immediately. Rather, that is a liability you will pay back over time.

Cash Flow Statement

Your cash flow statement will help determine how much money you need to start or grow your business, and ensure you never run out of money. What most entrepreneurs and business owners don’t realize is that you can turn a profit but run out of money and go bankrupt. 

When creating your Income Statement and Balance Sheets be sure to include several of the key costs needed in starting or growing an indoor sports complex business:

  • Cost of sport court lighting, set up, build-out and equipment
  • Payroll or salaries paid to staff
  • Business insurance
  • Other start-up expenses (if you’re a new business) like legal expenses, permits, computer software, and furnishings

Attach your full financial projections in the appendix of your plan along with any supporting documents that make your plan more compelling. For example, you might include your 10-year building lease agreement or a list of early-adopter customers who’ve paid in advance for a 5-year membership.

Over a quarter of a century after launching the first men's Club World Cup, the world governing body FIFA has announced its plan to launch a women's version in 2026.

Despite fears from many leading female players about the excessive demands placed upon them to play in international tournaments, FIFA had pressed on with its proposal, first approved by the FIFA Council as a strategic principle in December 2022.

In a press release , the world governing body said its decision was made following "subsequent extensive consultation with the confederations and other stakeholders." It further proposed that the tournament be held every four years and first played in either January or February 2026.

While in Europe, the women's Champions League is well established, now heading towards the conclusion of its 23rd edition, in other confederations, the concept of a continental women's club championship is less developed.

To facilitate this development, and supposedly "based on requests from the confederations to provide ample playing opportunities", "it was further proposed that an additional FIFA women’s club competition be organised in non-FIFA Women’s Club World Cup years as from 2027."

The men's FIFA Club World Cup was first played in Brazil in 2000. Although Brazilian clubs won the first three editions, it has since been dominated by European clubs who have won the last eleven competitions in succession.

Previously contested by the continental champions of the six FIFA confederations plus a team from the host nation, it will be significantly expanded for the next edition to be played in the United States next year to become a 32-team competition. 12 of those teams will come from Europe, 6 from South America, 4 each from Africa, Asia and North America, 1 from Oceania and a host-nation club.

Based on that allocation, it is safe assumption that in a 16-team women's Club World Cup, each of the largest confederations will provide at least two club sides each. However, the Asian Women's Champions League will not officially launch until later this year.

Played as an invitational tournament since 2019, Urawa Red Diamonds of Japan are the current champions but the first official edition to begin in August will feature 12 teams from only 12 of the member nations in the Asian Football Confederation.

Similarly in North America, the CONCACAF W Champions League is yet to launch. It was announced in March that the first edition will be played from August 2024 but only seven of the confederation's 47 member nations will be involved. In Oceania, the Women's Champions League just concluded its second competition with Auckland United of New Zealand claiming their first title in March.

The African Women's Champions League is more established having been launched in September 2020. A total of 37 of the continents 54 member nations entered the 2023 tournament with Mamelodi Sundowns of South Africa claiming their second title in three editions last November.

Brazilian clubs have dominated the women's version of the Copa Libertadores, the South American Champions League, which was first played in 2009. Only three of the 15 editions have been won by a club outside Brazil and three of the last five titles have been claimed by Corinthians, the most successful side in the competition's history.

In January, Danish captain Pernille Harder spoke out against the proposals to stage a FIFA Women's Club World Cup. When asked if she would be in favor, she replied "Nah, I don't think so to be honest. I think it's good that we want women's football to develop and we want more games and all this. I think then we need also squads that have a lot of players so we can rotate all the time."

"Also, the facilities around the teams, there are some teams that have it, some teams don't. I think it's important that everything goes together. The amount of games and the amount of everything around the team - the economics and all this has to go together."
