Essay on Importance of Good Manners

How a person behaves towards the other can be termed ‘manner’. Manners play an important part in everyone’s life. Someone’s manners can tell us so many things about that person, like their background, their education etc. But ‘Manner’ is a general term, that is to say, it does not necessarily mean that manners are always good, though they always should be good, if not cultivated properly they can be bad, which is generally termed as ‘bad – Manners’. And therefore, manners, that is to say, ‘Good Manners’ are cultivated in every child from childhood.

The learning of manners starts from the home since parents are the first teacher of the child, the parents also become the first to teach manners to the child. But one thing to understand here is that the mind of a human is receptive, and hence we, the human, receive or rather learn and grasp so many things that happen in our surroundings. And this surrounding also up to an extent plays a role in the cultivation of manners in the child.

Hence, good surroundings cultivate good manners and vice-versa.

Afterwards, the parents and the surrounding school and teachers play an important part in teaching good manners to the students. For instance, the students must greet the teacher good morning, or good afternoon (according to the time) whenever the teacher enters the classroom, also the use of phrases such as “may I come in” and “may I go” are taught to be used in the school. And these phrases remain with the students for the rest of their life.

Understanding Good Manners

The one thing to understand here is that good manners are not formalities, neither are they social protocol or the rules, which one has to follow to avoid the fine. But it is something that comes from the inside most naturally and by itself, it is something that should not be forced or faked. The way in which we want others to behave with us is also how they want us to behave to them, it can be the simplest way to understand good manners.

People with good manners are liked by everyone, while on the other hand, those who do not possess good manners are more often than not despised by others. It does not matter how wealthy one is, how well educated one is, or how great marks one managed to score, if the person does not possess good manners people are not going to admire him. But if the person knows how to act and behave with others, then everyone likes that person. Also, good manners turn into good nature, and a person who has a good nature is liked by everyone.

Writing an Essay on the Importance of Good Manners

As discussed, good manners are important in life, writing about the same helps it in a better manner. And hence students are required to write an essay on the importance of good manners. At School: School manners consist of some different patterns of ethics that need to be followed by the child. These are some major qualities that help children in enhancing good manners in all aspects.

Good Manners vs Discipline

There is a thin line between these two words which makes a big difference, generally, we cannot identify these differences. Good manners is completely associated with a  person's act or behavior such as politeness, patience, good listener, courtesy, helping nature and so on are some of the traits that signify good manners. Whereas Discipline describes a person's own set of rules and standards which he/ she follows throughout their life for example if a person is a smoker but here his discipline says not to smoke in front of parents or any elders this follows as same by any means.

In the tapestry of human interaction, good manners are the threads that weave together a harmonious society. They are the silent language of respect, kindness, and consideration that transcends cultural and geographical boundaries. This essay delves into the essence of good manners, exploring their significance, components, and the impact they have on both personal and communal life. It aims to illuminate why good manners are not just old-fashioned etiquettes but essential virtues that pave the way for a civilized and respectful coexistence.

Good Manners

Good manners represent the external expression of one’s inner ethical values. They are the embodiment of respect for others’ feelings, comfort, and well-being. In a world brimming with diversity, good manners act as a universal language that fosters mutual respect and understanding. They smooth the pathways of communication, making interactions more pleasant and productive. In essence, good manners are not just about following societal norms but about recognizing and valuing the dignity of every individual we encounter.

Components of Good Manners

Good manners encompass a wide array of behaviors, from simple acts of politeness to more profound expressions of empathy and respect. They include basic courtesies such as saying “please” and “thank you,” which acknowledge the efforts and contributions of others. Good manners also involve being punctual, which shows respect for others’ time, and practicing good personal hygiene, which demonstrates self-respect and consideration for the comfort of those around us.

Listening attentively when others speak is another crucial aspect of good manners, as it validates the speaker’s thoughts and feelings. Moreover, good manners extend to digital communication, where respect and courtesy must navigate the nuances of tone and content in texts and emails.

Good Manners in Different Settings

Good manners begin at home, where the foundations of respect and consideration are laid. Sharing, helping with household chores, and showing gratitude towards family members instill a sense of responsibility and empathy from a young age. Such manners not only strengthen familial bonds but also prepare individuals to interact positively with the broader world.

The school environment is a microcosm of society, where good manners are pivotal in creating a respectful and conducive learning atmosphere. Respecting teachers, cooperating with classmates, and adhering to school rules are all expressions of good manners that enhance the educational experience for everyone involved.

In the Workplace

In the professional realm, good manners facilitate smooth interactions and collaborations. They are reflected in respecting hierarchies, acknowledging the contributions of colleagues, and navigating conflicts with diplomacy. Good manners in the workplace contribute to a positive organizational culture, boosting morale and productivity.

In Public Places

Public spaces require an acute awareness of communal manners. This includes maintaining order in queues, respecting public property, and being mindful of noise levels. Such manners ensure that public spaces remain accessible and enjoyable for all.

The Impact of Good Manners on Society

Good manners have a ripple effect on society. They contribute to a culture of respect, where individuals feel valued and heard. This, in turn, nurtures a sense of social responsibility and civic duty. Communities characterized by good manners are more likely to engage in cooperative efforts towards common goals, such as neighborhood clean-ups or community support initiatives.

Furthermore, societies that prioritize good manners are better equipped to handle diversity and differences. By fostering an environment of mutual respect, good manners become a bridge across cultural, social, and economic divides, promoting social harmony.

Challenges to Good Manners in the Modern World

Despite their undeniable value, good manners face challenges in today’s fast-paced, technology-driven world. The anonymity of digital communication can sometimes lead to a disregard for the principles of respect and consideration. Moreover, the hustle and stress of modern life can make it easy to overlook the importance of interpersonal courtesies.

However, these challenges only underscore the importance of consciously cultivating good manners. They remind us that manners are not automatic but require intention and practice.

Cultivating Good Manners

Cultivating good manners begins with self-awareness and a genuine respect for others. It involves recognizing the impact of our actions and words on those around us and choosing to navigate the world with empathy and consideration. Parents, educators, and community leaders play a crucial role in modeling and teaching good manners, highlighting their value through consistent practice and reinforcement.

Moreover, reflecting on the benefits of good manners can motivate individuals to prioritize them. Recognizing that good manners enhance personal relationships, professional opportunities, and societal well-being can inspire a commitment to this essential virtue.

In conclusion, Good manners are the cornerstone of a civilized society. They are not mere formalities but expressions of respect, empathy, and consideration that enrich our interactions and contribute to the fabric of communal life. In a world marked by diversity and rapid change, good manners remain a constant beacon of civility and respect. Cultivating and prioritizing these timeless virtues is not only a personal responsibility but a collective necessity for building a more respectful and harmonious world. As we navigate the complexities of modern life, let us remember that good manners are the key to unlocking a future marked by understanding, respect, and cooperation.

100 Words Essay On Good Manners

Our society recognises us for our ethical conduct, which tells us that if we want to adjust, we should possess good manners. Good manners also include your selflessness, where you put others' needs and wants beyond yours and try to fulfil them, which also makes you generous from other’s point of view.

Good Manners Essay

Since childhood, we have been taught about sharing. We should share our food with our friends, family, and whosoever is in need of it. Sharing portrays our love for the other person, our caring nature, and, most importantly, our good manners. Serving our family at home or the guests arriving at our place is also a sharing and comes under good manners.

200 Words Essay On Good Manners

Good manners are society's norms and the principles we have to accept and follow religiously. Talking humbly and politely to others gives a good impression on the opposite person, which also comes under good manners. If an individual respects everyone, including their elders and younger ones, then that person is considered respectable and wise. One who is considered a respectable person is wanted by society and can be involved in good discussions, as they would be able to maintain a good rapport with the group of people. They will also know the basic manners of apologising or being thankful for others.

Our personality conduct creates a memorable image in the mind of our friends or whomsoever we meet. If we are well-behaved and talk politely with others, we will get respect from everyone. Listening to others patiently and favourably greeting them shows a well-behaved person with good manners. On the other hand, being rude to others can hurt others very badly, which can also affect them psychologically. This manner is far from good manners and does not qualify one to come under the list of good human beings. Thus, we should always talk politely to everyone and never hurt anyone.

500 Words Essay On Good Manners

If we maintain a good rapport with others, we leave a good impression on society. However, maintaining good manners is extended to society and people from all spheres of life. These motives and qualities are derived in us since our childhood, by the upbringing that we receive. A proper upbringing is very important for everyone as it shapes the behaviour of each individual. Our ethics and integrity are reflected by how we conduct ourselves. You will only be able to earn respect when you are polite and soft towards others. There is no perfect definition of good manners. It differs from one culture to another and from person to person. But the basic manners, where we are being thankful, apologetic, or polite, is accepted universally.

Good and bad manners , flaws, and human values comprise our behaviour. The manners and the human values we represent in public tell a lot about our personalities. We should dedicate ourselves diligently to building a good and healthy equation among the people. People with good manners will know how to respect others’ feelings and be grateful to them. Achieving all the greatest heights does not mean you will forget your ethics, morals and good manners, you will still be accepted and respected based on your morals and good manners. The ethics which we are being taught since our childhood, we should pass on to our future generation as well.

Importance Of Good Manners

Although different cultures have varied definitions of manners, it is always polite to express gratitude for others' favours. A simple "thank you" can go a long way toward fostering new relationships and having a favourable effect on the other person. It can foster effective communication and sustain peace amongst them.

Inculcates confidence | When we understand the basic social good manners, we act accordingly, alleviating self-consciousness and doubt.

Creates the first impression | First impressions are important for the future as they are retained in the opposite person's mind. People you meet for the first time would not know anything about you and would judge you based on your first impression. If you have good manners and know how to speak politely, you will set a good first impression on people.

Stimulates better relationships | No one would want to be friends with a rude, arrogant, and annoying person. So if you have good manners, you will ultimately attract good friends to your company.

Respect | Our friendly demeanour leaves people with a lasting positive impression about us. A well-mannered individual behaves appropriately around others because they want to be respected. It is true that if we wish to have a reputable personality, we need to reciprocate the respect we receive. A sign of someone with good manners is when they listen to others attentively and extend a friendly greeting. These are the efforts being made to build community solidarity.

Thus, having good manners in oneself will help one be a better person for society and their loved ones, preventing them from hurting someone.

His parents, grandparents, school teachers as well as the society in which he grows up play an important role in his behavioural development. A child should always be taught good manners like respecting his elders, being honest, being kind, gentle and compassionate as well as being giving and helping. A child with good manners grows up into a good adult who is well-liked and respected amongst his friends and colleagues.

Good manners take a person far in life. Some examples of good manners are saying “please”, “thank you” and “sorry”, holding doors open for others, helping elders cross the road, being disciplined and punctual as well as treating everyone with respect irrespective of their social status. When we are respectful and kind towards others, other people also respect us and treat us kindly. Manners tell a lot about a person and his upbringing. Hence, we must always focus on cultivating good manners.

Short Essay on Good Manners in 400 words

A person’s outward bearing and his behaviour towards another person is described as his manner. A person who is kind, gentle, polite, respectful and who cares about how others feel has good manners. On the other hand, a person who is rude to others is irresponsible, inconsiderate and disrespectful, and has bad manners.

The manners of a person can tell us a lot about them as well as their upbringing. A person learns his manners when he is still a child. His parents, grandparents, school teachers as well as the society in which he grows up play an important role in his behavioural development.

Having good manners is important. A child learns how to be and behave by copying his parents and other elders. So, parents and family members of a child need to be mindful of their own behaviour. When parents treat other people with kindness and respect, the child learns to do the same. When parents are abusive and disrespectful, the child copies their negative behaviour.

A child should always be taught good manners like respecting his elders, being honest, being kind, gentle and compassionate as well as being giving and helping. Not using bad words, not abusing others, being tolerant of others and being warm and welcoming are good manners. A child with good manners grows up into a good adult who is well-liked and respected amongst his friends and colleagues. After all, no one likes to hang out or work with people who are rigid and rude or who say offensive things without caring about other people’s feelings.

Good manners are not the things one does in a forced manner. It is not about social protocols or rules that need to be followed. Instead, it is about the kindness and respectful attitude that comes naturally to a person, that the person displays in his day-to-day life while dealing with other people.

Some examples of good manners are saying “please”, “thank you”, “excuse me” and “sorry”, holding doors open for others, helping elders carry their luggage or cross the road, being disciplined and punctual as well as treating everyone with respect irrespective of their social status. When we are respectful and kind towards others, other people also respect us and treat us kindly. This creates a joyful atmosphere and makes everyone happy.

Good manners take a person far in life. We must always try to cultivate good manners and let go of our bad habits and manners.

In order for parents to be the best role models for their children, they should behave appropriately in front of them, instruct them in proper manners, and encourage them to brush their teeth twice, greet people, maintain proper hygiene, and speak respectfully to elders. What Are the Benefits of Good Manners? Essay

1. introduction.

Good manners are a prevailing attribute in one's character. Good manners include gentleness, modesty, decency, and being polite. This should be the basic criterion of developing an attractive personality. You cannot separate good manners from good character. Human nature is the best example of the importance of good manners. Man is the most intelligent creature on this earth and possesses a lot of good qualities. The best feature of a human being is the effective and meaningful use of intelligence. This is what is lacking in animals. Good manners are the developed attitude and professionalism in an individual to live in society and, at the optimum level, be good to the other person. A person who is carrying good manners is graced with the best behavior. He doesn't hurt the feelings of another person and, in turn, tries to fulfill the requirements of the situation. A man with good manners is a gentleman who knows what is right and what is not. He has learned how to be courteous and well-behaved. With proficiency in good manners, he can put others at ease and make them feel comfortable and cheerful. The dictionary meaning of the term "good manners" would be - manner, behavior, deportment, mode - all meaning the same, i.e. well behavior. In the context of behaving properly with ease and per excellence, it's a correct behavior and actions that have a good and reasonable excuse and explainable logic behind all this. On the contrary, it's more than what is described. It's the way of acting, style of presentation, an individual way to do things, a specific method and style of action which is quite known and definite. This is particularly the nature of a person, how he understands and, in the end, the way he responds to it.

1.1 Importance of Good Manners

Good manners may seem old-fashioned and out-of-date, but there is still a place for them in today's society. Good manners are never out of style. They make the simple things special and the hard things easier. Common courtesies such as holding a door open for someone, saying "please" and "thank you," and allowing an elderly or disabled person to go to the head of the line are small acts that make a big difference in daily life. Without them, the world would be a more unruly place. Good manners are in decline, observes psychologist and physician Willard Gaylin. He cites a growing narcissism and "in your face" behaviors that range from road rage to cell phone rudeness. Basic civility seems less important to people who are wrapped up in themselves and their desires. The results can be seen in public and private schools, where children with few guidelines of behavior and a lack of discipline exhibit various levels of lack of respect for one another, teachers, and school property. If left unchecked, this incivility can grow into full-fledged violence. Computerized weapons in schools have been paralleled by a survey of American Association of School Administrators members, in which 86% labeled school violence as an increasing problem. Eight in ten polled by the National PTA and the National Education Association said having good manners and being well behaved are more difficult for kids today than 20 years ago.

1.2 Definition of Good Manners

As a subject of speculation, good manners is the salt of life. It is a fashion which never goes out of style as it is important everywhere. It plays a key role in the behavior of individuals and in maintaining peace at all levels, in societies and among nations. Everyone has the basic knowledge of what it is and its significance. Consideration for others is being polite. It is an ornament for the young and an elder both. It is a sign of civilization. A man or woman without good manners would be considered undesirable. At some stage or another one must have been in all the situations mentioned below: i) To speak too loudly in public places or the theater. ii) To ask an embarrassing question. iii) To make fun of someone who is physically disabled. iv) When to fail to thanks for small kindness or said something to indirectly hurt someone. All of these acts have a common factor, i.e. they ignore the feelings of other people. The essence of good manners is to show respect. Respecting another as an equal or acknowledging someone else's self-respect is as important as self-respect for oneself. One should always keep in mind 'do unto others, as you would have them do unto you.' This is the basic principle of good manners. Turning the spotlight inwards may reveal that there are complaints from other people that they have been deprived of their respect. This might not be true, but the fact remains that the person making these allegations had felt so and it is very dangerous to allow such misunderstandings to develop. The topic of consideration for others is a moral issue and one can say good manners are a code of moral conduct. But it is not necessary to accept this stoically. Consideration for others should be a pleasant business. It involves fostering a genial temperament, sowing seeds of good humor, putting a brake on hot-headed actions, and developing self-control and most commonly of all making use of tact. Tact is the faculty to say 'the right thing at the right time.' It brings up the image of a person who weighs his every action. This is the type of person who never has enemies and is liked by people of every race and creed wherever he goes.

2. Social Benefits

Social skills are defined as the skills we use to communicate and interact with each other, both verbally and non-verbally, through gestures, body language, and our personal appearance. However, the ability to process and use these skills effectively can determine our ability to form and maintain close relationships with others. Good manners play a very important role in forming social skills, and this fact may be agreed upon after scrutinizing the three social skills explained in the following paragraphs. Interactions with people take place every day, whether it be for a discussion or a simple conversation. A friendly conversation with a person can be a great source of happiness and highly satisfying. Conversely, a rude, obnoxious, and unfriendly conversation will irk the person and may disturb him. At times, it is worse; the person may be so hurt by the conversation that he may decide to end the relationship with the other person. So we can clearly see that the manner and nature of the conversation can greatly affect the relationship between people. Similarly, the good manner of the speaker can make the other person more attentive and interested in what the speaker is saying. A good example to illustrate this would be a teacher explaining a concept to a student. A teacher who is polite and considerate will be more liked and respected by the student, who in turn will pay more attention and show more interest in learning compared to a teacher who is rude and irritable. This can be applied to all relationships between people, and it is a fact that people will avoid those who ill-treat them or are rude towards them. So if everyone can have good manners when interacting with people, it will definitely lead to more positive and satisfying relationships with others.

2.1 Positive Interactions

Positive interactions are a natural outcome of consistently using good manners. When people are polite, courteous, and respectful to others, they create a positive atmosphere. Instead of focusing on the offensive or negative behavior of a friend, family member, or co-worker, one can look for good in the person and build on that. People who practice good manners tend to be polite and considerate, which leads others to think they are nice people. We feel at ease around them, we can relax, let our guard down, be ourselves, and say what we feel without fear of judgment. This is the essence of positive interaction with others. When you are at ease and comfortable with someone, it is far easier to show them patience, tolerance, and understanding. When we are considerate, it allows the other person to feel comfortable and this lowers his or her defenses. Timothy E. Floodman, in the Sites Footer Information Systems Division Information Services Department at Texas A&M University, has written, "We attack people when we feel threatened and in a defensive mode. Most conflicts are the result of people feeling that their self-esteem, their self-worth, their very identity is being attacked or threatened. If you lower the other person's defenses, there is a greater chance of resolving conflicts and important issues. The surest way to lower defenses is by being nice. Think of a time when someone treated you with unprovoked kindness. Acting in a contrary fashion, you probably felt guilt or shame. It is because deep down we all want to be better than we are. Kindness actually encourages people to move in that direction." Good manners are the foundation in understanding that kindness towards others encourages positive interaction and enhances our relationships with others.

2.2 Respectful Relationships

Having good manners can help to improve communication in relationships. And people who practice good manners are usually better at communicating and understanding friends. People who practice good manners are better at communication and usually it results in understanding those friends. Since 'please' and 'thank you' have such a huge effect on young children, it is a good idea for parents to keep reminding their children to use those words because it could affect the way they communicate throughout the rest of their lives. Studies have shown that children who use the words 'please' and 'thank you' in their daily lives are generally more liked by their teachers and are usually academically and socially successful. Manners can have an effect on the way someone is judging our personality, be it on a date or a job interview. The way we present ourselves to other people is influenced largely by our manners, such as speaking properly, making appropriate conversation, and making eye contact. These are all the basic elements for a good first impression and will eventually lead to a respectable relationship through communication. We also tend to feel more comfortable around people who have good manners. For example, it would probably be very awkward to be served in a shop by a sales assistant who does not use any manners or speaks to you as if you are a child. On the other hand, if that sales assistant possesses good manners and speaks politely, it's likely that the customer would feel more comfortable and would be able to talk to the sales assistant more openly and comfortably. Decent manners are definitely an important key for a successful and respectful relationship with others.

2.3 Improved Communication

Improving communication or being able to communicate properly is the most important of good manners. One must be able to express himself; only then people can understand each other. Whether it is a business or casual conversation, manners are important in showing that you respect the other person and that you value their opinion. In today's world where the amount of media communication is ever increasing, poor manners are often exhibited through email and writing skills. Grammar is a huge improving communication factor and improper grammar can change the meaning of a sentence. Therefore, someone who takes the time to write a well-written letter has shown that they care about the person they are writing to. Email is similar, but often email is taken as too casual of a form of communication. People often send email with little thought and this can lead to misinterpretation of the message. Email is often seen as an easy way out of contacting people, so it's the manner of choosing to communicate with someone via telephone instead of taking the easy route of email, which can show good manners. Telephone communication also can show manners, for example, it is common courtesy to ask if the person can talk at the present time. If the person says no, then one would reschedule a more appropriate time to talk. This is much more respectful than forcing a conversation at a bad time.

3. Personal Benefits

Personal benefits of good manners are reflected in a stronger sense of self-confidence. It has been seen that those with good manners have a higher self-esteem and are more mentally competent than those without. When a person is sure of their own abilities and believes in themselves, it is easier to take on new opportunities and to recognize those that are worth taking. These are two more ways to further one's self in the world and in their career. It has been seen that those with good manners have an initiative to take on new opportunities. This is probably because they have been taught to do everything the best that they can and are unafraid of new challenges. They have also been taught that they will be recognized and well thought of for doing the superior work they are capable of. Good-mannered people are also able to recognize good opportunities when they see them. This is a great advantage in itself; being able to distinguish between a good opportunity and a bad one can often mean success or failure.

3.1 Enhanced Self-Confidence

When someone is respectful, they receive the same treatment in return. Acting polite and well-mannered makes a person worth trusting and being with, which is a great confidence booster. The manner in which others communicate and behave around a person has a heavy impact on that person's self-confidence. If people are polite and direct with that person, it will give them self-assurance and confidence in what they do. This person will then also feel comfortable communicating and presenting themselves in any situation. High self-esteem and confidence are important keys to success. If a person has self-belief and faith in their ability, only then can they be successful. Because good manners are the best way to show respect for others, it helps a person gain the respect and esteem of others, which makes it easier to have more confidence in themselves. Behavior in any situation is based on interpersonal communication. The way one communicates with others and how they present themselves reflects their image. Good manners have a deep impact on the image a person creates for themselves. A person with good manners will have a much more likable and impressive image than a person with a bad attitude. This, in turn, increases the confidence of that person as they feel more at ease discussing ideas and taking initiative in any situation. Consider two people taking an interview for a job. The person with poor manners will feel very nervous and uneasy, and the interviewers will also feel unease and hesitate employing the person. On the other hand, the person with good manners will feel confident, and the interviewers will also feel comfortable offering the job. Then it is quite obvious who has the superior chance of obtaining the job. This comparison shows that good manners are a crucial element in enhancing self-confidence. By showing due respect to others and acting in a way that is considerate of others' feelings, a person is respected by others, which in turn makes that person feel more at ease and secure in any situation. This ease and comfort are what self-confidence really is, and it is clear that the best way to improve confidence is by developing good manners.

3.2 Increased Professional Opportunities

Companies prefer to hire people who have good manners. Many employers pay attention to the behavior of the people they interview. People who use good manners are more likely to receive more job offers and higher salaries. Those with a history of using good manners tend to have more professional success over their lifetime. Those who conduct themselves in a professional way by knowing how to use good manners tend to end up in professional jobs. With the fast growing economy we are having it is getting harder to get professional jobs, the more knowledge a person has of the proper way to behave the better chance they will have of getting a professional job. People who know how to use good manners are more likely to receive promotions and move up the professional ladder. They are able to use good manners in getting along with co-workers and clients, they are then able to advance to higher positions within their career. For those looking to work for themselves, it has been shown that people who use good manners have more success. Usually these people need to interact with the public in some way or another. By using good manners they are able to create loyal customers and have a good reputation, therefore having more business and making a good living. With professional success comes financial success. Studies between people who use good manners and those with poor manners have shown that people with good manners have higher salaries. This is especially in employment that deals directly with the public or customers. The reason for increased pay is that people who use good manners are more effective workers. They are able to spend more time working and less time dealing with problems. Problems caused by poor manners can range from small product mistakes to an all-out loss of a job. A person with poor manners is more likely to offend a colleague or client and can sometimes be unaware or unable to redeem themselves. This can lead to problems that can affect a person’s job. Those using good manners are able to more easily get along with people and avoid these problems. They are more reliable, and employers view them in a better light. A person with good manners is more likely to get job security as they are seen to be irreplaceable. This leads to a longer-lasting career and more financial stability.

3.3 Better Reputation

A person with good manners will be respected and held in high esteem by others. Such a person will have a good reputation. A man is often judged by his manners. This makes the possession of good manners an important step in the ladder of success. One who is polite and gentle is respected by all. Even his enemies respect him. Politeness is the result of good manners. It adds colour to one's personality. A man with no manners is an uncivilized man. He does not have any polish in his behaviour. This type of man repels people and they keep away from him. Such a man has a bad name. He is a laughing stock for others. His offensive behaviour makes him unpopular. In contrast to this, a man with good manners is liked by all. He has many friends. His company is pleasant. He is always cheerful because people respect him. His polite behaviour wins him favour of others. He makes a good name everywhere. This is because good manners are the outcome of a cultured and refined behaviour. People judge a man by the way he behaves. If his conduct is good or his way of talking is impressive, then it is the result of his good manners. In the long run, good manners will give a person the friendliest reception. Another important factor in judging a man is his hospitality. A man with good manners is a good host. He is always eager to help his guest in every possible way. His warm reception makes the guest feel at home. He is tactful and knows what his guest likes. He does not do anything to displease him. His motive is to send the guest back with happy thoughts. He is always remembered by his guest. Such a person has no difficulty in finding others who will do him favours, because he himself has done favours with his pleasant and cheerful manner. Good manners make a full man. They are very essential for a happy and successful life. If a man's character is good, he will have good manners. They are a great asset. Without them, a man is like a gem with a flaw, only partial value is realized.

4. Emotional Benefits

Manners have many emotional benefits and can make a person feel very relaxed. When a person is mannerly, it's usually because they feel good about themselves and have a desire to make others feel at ease too. When these good intentions are acted upon, the feeling of content is often achieved. Good manners require thought and consideration, and it is this way of behaving that can make a person feel happier and better about themselves. The knowledge that you've acted in a positive way is a reward in itself, and using manners is proven to be linked with an increase in self-esteem. Less well known is the fact that using good manners can help to reduce stress and rid the body of excess anxiety. A lot of stress and anxiety, especially in today's fast-paced world, is caused because of the guilt that comes from thinking that you've said or done something that you shouldn't have. The sort of social blunders that can play over and over in your head and prevent you from being able to relax can be eradicated by using manners. When you feel like you've effectively communicated or shown respect through your use of manners, you are less likely to regret what you've said or done and more likely to feel at peace with yourself, and this reduces stress. A relaxed and stress-free manner is infectious, and if more people use manners in an attempt to relax and be relaxed, then there is less stress and aggression in the world, which can only be a good thing.

4.1 Reduced Stress and Anxiety

Society. This correlation to life expectancy may be more important in today's world, as stress is prevalent and increasing. Thus, how one experiences stress can influence whether or not it will affect his health. It is known that the human stress response system is not well equipped to differentiate between modern threats and threats that our ancestors faced. This is the reason that some stress seems to be a constant in our lives. Therefore, the more we are able to live in a low-stress state, the less stress will have an opportunity to work in a way that is detrimental to our health. It is widely believed that activities related to manners such as meditation, relaxation, and taking the time to do things right have great value in reducing stress. This gives credence to the idea that good manners can lead to less stress and improved health.

4.2 Increased Empathy and Compassion

Good manners inculcate two important qualities in an individual - empathy and compassion. Empathy is the ability to understand the feelings, emotions, and perspective of another person. It is putting oneself in the shoes of the other. Compassion is the feeling of kindness and understanding towards someone who is undergoing some pain and misfortune. When a person is polite, courteous, and respectful, it becomes easy for him to put himself in the other person's shoes to understand his feelings and emotions. Good manners teach a person to respect the feelings and sentiments of others. This leads to behavior in which a person is more considerate and understanding of the emotions of others. Today, people are so engrossed in their lives and careers that most of the time, friendships, relationships, and emotions are taken for granted. This has led to a breakdown in many relationships, and today there are so few people who actually care for others. A polite and mannered person is able to understand and value relationships. He is more considerate of the feelings of others and thus is able to develop and maintain healthy and meaningful relationships. Empathy and compassion are emotions that are becoming sparser today. There is so much distrust, hatred, and violence across the world, and there are few who actually care for others. It is these emotions that lead to happy and successful lives and meaningful and fulfilling relationships. People who are compassionate are generally more peaceful and happy with themselves as they have less guilt and a feeling of having done wrong to others. Imagine a world where everyone is understanding and considerate of others. There would be no feelings of ill-will and hostility. Global problems can be easily solved if people understand the pain of others. There will be more helping each other and a feeling of brotherhood and unity. These are the emotions that lead to a more united and better world. Good manners are the only way to bring back these emotions in our lives. Today we need to teach these values to our children in the hope that future generations can build a better world. Imagine how wonderful the world would be with kind, considerate, and understanding people.

Good manners Essay – 1

Introduction.

Good manners are essential in our life, good habits only carry us forward in life, and bad habits put us far behind in life.

Habits determine the height of our development. If we have good habits, then we can earn a big name in our society and our country.  I can reach the posts.  A great person starts with good habits. Many people wake up early in the morning, but most of the youngsters wake up too late in the morning, which is a bad habit.  Can keep it because that time of morning is such that in which you study or do some good work, you get outstanding results in it.  In the morning, we should make a habit of taking a walk, make a habit of reciting poojas, but if we do not do this, then you do injustice to your self, not with the other because it messes up our health on the other hand.  Good habits, that is, the practice of waking up in the morning takes us far ahead. Good habits need to be put on every person who wants to do something big in life.

 1. Wake up in the morning touch your parents’ feet

A person who wakes up in the morning and touches his parents’ feet, his age, knowledge, fame, and power are always four things.

 2. Honor your parents

The parent is our first God.  Always respect your parents.  You have to be a good person before and to become a good student.  Be a good son/daughter.

 3. Read daily

To be a good student, you must have good knowledge.  If you want to bring good marks, then you have to do SmartSteady.  You have to study every day to get good numbers.

 4. Put your books in the right place

Keep your books here and there.  Always keep your books in the right place, which you find appropriate.  Whenever you need a book, you will easily find it, and if you throw it here and there, you will take a lot of time to find them.

 5. Keep Your Study Room Clean

Keep your study room very clean.  You must have noticed, studying in a clean and quiet place makes more sense.  If you have extra items lying on your table, then your mood will not read.

 6. Always be inspired

Be demotivated under any circumstances.  Even if there is such a thing that demotions you, then remember the sources from which you can become motive.  In such a situation, use self-motivation.  Always remember, a good student is one who can keep himself motivated in any case.

 7. well dressed

Personality is most important in the life of a student.  Build a good character.  The first thing for him wears clothes properly.  Our behavior and external appearance make our personality in the mind of others. If you want to look like a good student, then be well dressed.

 8. Be Happy

Always be happy. Keep a smile on your face.  Also, be the reason for someone’s smile.  Nowadays, everyone likes a happy person.  If you keep hanging your mouth, no one will want to talk to you.

 9. Never be afraid of making mistakes

A good student is never afraid to make a mistake.  He knows that he is still a Sikh and has every right to make a mistake.  The matter is also real if we already know how to do something correctly, then why should we go to learn it.  Only when they do wrong, they go.

 10. Find a chance to use your knowledge

A good student is always looking for opportunities to use his knowledge.  For example, if you have learned a little English, then he finds a person who can speak in English.

This does not mean that you start talking to everyone in English, find a person whose English is better than you.  Only then can your English improve. It’ll also increase your knowledge.

 11. Keep trying

Do not give up.  Do not move away from your target.  Keep trying until you reach your goal.  If a student is engaged in his studies without giving up, then no one can stop him from being successful.

 12. Study carefully

Do your studies with full attention, dedication, and ability.  While studying, focus your attention on the book.  While studying, do not let your mind wander around, meaning do not concentrate on anything else.  Learn to keep your senses under control.

 13. Keep Your Own Business

If you want to be a good student, then work with your business.  If you are engaged in the environment or neighboring conflicts around you, then you will not be able to study correctly, will not be able to become a good stud and will never be able to succeed.

Why do you focus on those things in the world which have nothing to do with you?  If you understand this, then you will not be distracted, and you will be successful in your studies and career.

 14. Study at the right time

Choose the right time to study: It is essential to choose the right time to study.  The time of reading from 4 am to 6 am is best because 100% of our brain works in the morning.

 15. Take care of food

Do not eat too much or too little food.  If you eat more food than you need, you will feel lethargic, you will not wake up on time, and you will not be able to study.  So eat healthily and eat less.

Healthy food keeps our mind healthy, and if your brain is healthy, then you will be able to do all your work correctly.

 16. Honor the Elderly

Nowadays, children have forgotten to respect their families, teachers, and elders.  Remember, you will never be happy in life by disobeying the parents and disrespecting the elderly.  Respect the hems of the elderly.

A blessing of the elderly will make your life.  If your parents, your elders, are happy with you, then understand that God agrees with you.

 17. Speak sweetly

The house where kind words are spoken becomes a paradise.  This does not mean that you cheat with someone just by speaking kind words.  Use soft expression with a genuine, clean heart, and without any greed, Rab will also like you.

These habits will give you success in every area of life, apart from studying.  Apart from these, there are many good habits which we should include in our life apart from one student.  like:-

The importance of good manners

By Your Headspace Mindfulness & Meditation Experts

Good manners cost nothing. These are wise words that we probably remember being taught as children, and those who are now parents probably repeat to their own kids.

But while these gifts are free to give, the simple offerings of being polite and kind — like saying please and thank you, listening carefully, and making eye contact with people — can bring huge benefits to ourselves and those around us.

In this article

Mindfulness your manners, how to teach kids good manners.

They can help us appear more confident, maintain more fulfilling personal relationships, lead to us prospering at work and generally enjoying happier and healthier lives.

But what we probably didn’t realize when we were being taught to be well-mannered as children — and perhaps those teaching it didn’t recognize either — is that when we were learning about good manners, we were often learning about mindfulness .

By living more mindfully, it can lead to us naturally having better manners and help us to live a more prosperous life — without spending a cent.

What are good manners?

By practicing basic good manners, we are showing those around us that we respect them and are considerate to their feelings. This makes them feel better, and us too.

Most of us have heard the old adage: “Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.” This wisdom is so ingrained in our life lessons, it has become known as “the golden rule.”

Examples of good manners can manifest themselves in seemingly small actions and rewards — like holding the door open for someone and receiving a silent smile of recognition in return. But it can also make or break crucial relationships and be the difference between harmony and conflict at home, at work, or even between countries and cultures on the world stage.

Like any rule, there are some exceptions , and we must appreciate that others’ experiences, needs, and boundaries can be different from our own.

But it is a concept with solid and natural roots. And Kristen Monroe, director of the University of California Irvine Interdisciplinary Center for the Scientific Study of Ethics and Morality, says : "There is a lot of good, if emerging, scientific work suggesting people have an innate sense of fairness built into them and that the golden rule captures much of that innate moral sense. A lot of people instinctively follow it.”

So if that moral sense of respect and fairness is already built into us, let’s look at how to unlock it naturally to benefit ourselves and others around us.

Meditation can be a great training ground for mindfulness . We meditate to practice being more present in the moment and then develop the ability to use these skills in our day-to-day lives, and that is living mindfully.

Being more present is crucial when it comes to looking at how to get good manners. That could mean being focused on one thing — or person — without being lost in the thoughts in your head. If we are present when we meet someone, for example, we are more likely to remember their name, which is an admirable skill associated with well-mannered people.

Empathy is another of the most important building blocks of a healthy relationship and treating others with kindness. And being able to understand how someone else is feeling — and having a spirit of generosity — is an important component of how to improve manners.

Headspace co-founder and former Buddhist monk Andy Puddicombe says , “Empathy does not require that we have been through the same thing as another person, simply that we meet them where they are now.”

Meditation for compassion — or loving kindness meditation — can help to nurture and release our natural empathy. This meditation encourages us to direct good will first onto ourselves, and then to others. The more we practice this meditation, the more we can let go of judgment and hostility, and apply this kindness to our everyday interactions.

Researchers from Emory University discovered that compassion meditation could improve our ability to empathize with those around us and to activate the areas of the brain associated with compassion.

And an important way to make those around you feel happy, positive, and at ease is to embrace that state of mind yourself. Headspace offers guided meditations to help us change our relationship with the thoughts that can sometimes cloud our happiness and reconnect with our underlying sense of contentment; it includes a 10-day happiness course. A study published in the Journal of Happiness Studies found 10 days of Headspace increased happiness by 16%.

Another example of where we can be more present in our lives — and where a lot of our life lessons on social etiquette are taught from an early age — is having good table manners.

Mindful eating encourages us to remove distractions and sit uninterrupted with our food and fellow diners. This encourages a healthier relationship with our food and with those eating with us.

The dinner table is often one of the key places we discuss manners with our children – but we also know there are many other elements to encouraging good manners for kids.

Headspace offers specific meditation for kids that can help nurture a kind, focused, and calm young mind. Headspace for Kids splits its content into three age groups: 5 and under, 6-8 and 9-12 and features collaborations with Sesame Street to teach kids about mindfulness.

Among the specific themes are helping children to be calm with simple breathing exercises, using their imagination to practice a relaxed, precise kind of focus, and encouraging kindness using visualization exercises to teach children about openness and generosity.

Headspace founder Andy says, “It’s almost as though meditation was designed for kids. They just get it – there is this elasticity and freedom in their minds which allows them to be present in the moment and free from any external thoughts or pressures.”

“By introducing meditation and mindfulness at an early age, not only can we build on this and help nurture their mind development, but we are also making meditation simple and accessible.”

And, of course, a good first step in showing kids the importance of good manners is to be a positive role model with our own behavior. Mindful parenting involves being fully present with our children, free from distractions and judgment, and with a soft and open mind.

Good Manners by J.C. Hill Most Important Objectives & Summary

Summary of “Good Manners”

‘ Good Manners ‘ is written by  J.C. Hill . Here, the writer has highlighted the importance of and the need for good manners in society and human life. He thinks that good manners are helpful in running our social life smoothly.

We should cultivate feelings of compassion for others and know our limitations as human beings. We should be aware of the need of others. If we are well-mannered, we are respected. If not, we are hated by everyone.

Good manners are relevant to both man and society. For progress and prosperity, communal peace and harmony, mutual cooperation and fellow feeling, and law and order are essential. The old and weak must be helped by the young and strong.

The young man who treated everyone cruelly falls ill and needs the help of others. After his recovery, he realizes the importance of cooperation and becomes a changed man. So, we should avoid ego and respect the views of others.

Truth should be always shared. Only then, our life will be easy, sweet, and comfortable.

2. What did the young man notice on trains and buses afterward?

ट्रेनों और बसों में जवान ने बाद में क्या देखा.

He noticed how tired some of the older people were who were standing beside him.

3. What did he always do afterward?

उसने हमेशा बाद में क्या किया.

Ans:- The healthy young man after recovering from Pneumonia realized that no man is independent. People need help and co-operation from each other.

Thus, now when he was on a train or bus he now looked around to see if there was an older person in need of a seat and if there was he gave up his. He said to himself, I have got my strength back but ‘these older people will never have their strength again’.

4. What should you be careful of when speaking to someone?

5. What does the writer say about the truth?[2018, 2016, 2015, 2013, 2011, 2010]

सत्य के बारे में लेखक क्या कहता है.

Ans:- The writer of this extract says that truth is never a one-sided affair. It takes two to speak the truth. One can not speak the truth by saying what one thinks is the truth. We have to express the truth differently to different people.

Because what we say is never absolute truth, it has different meanings for different people under different situations.

6. What should be the rule about a conversation?

बातचीत के बारे में क्या नियम होना चाहिए.

Ans:- When we are in a company we should take only a fair share of the conversation. If there are two of you, take half of it. When you have said a little keep quiet and give your friend a chance to say something. Nobody wants to listen for long to any person.

But, many young man or woman talks away, thinking the company is delighted to hear them. And if you don’t want to be considered a bad-manner person you have to watch constantly for signs.

7. Why should you be careful when talking about other people?

अन्य लोगों के बारे में बात करते समय आपको क्यों सावधान रहना चाहिए.

Ans:- When you are talking about others, you may think that you can say unpleasant things about someone behind his back and not be found out. But it is surprising how the remarks usually find their way to the person with your name attached.

So, whatever you say, always assume that the person may over near you and adjust your remarks accordingly. All experienced people act in this way.

8. What did the picture of the bullfight to prove?

बैल-लड़ाई की तस्वीर से क्या साबित हुआ.

Yet when he was shown the picture again, he saw that the bull’s mouth was closed but that, because its head was turned to the side the ear looked like the tongue.

In this way, good manners can be produced.

10. What is the meaning of ‘I shall not pass this way again?’

‘मैं फिर से इस तरह से नहीं गुजरूंगा’ का क्या मतलब है.
