How to Use Gamma AI to Create Stunning Presentations

Want to create stunning presentations without spending hours on design? Here's how to use Gamma AI.

Presentations are one of the most effective ways to convey information, but like every good thing, they often require time and effort to create.

However, with the power of artificial intelligence tools, your journey to achieving the perfect presentation can be much easier. All you need is a general topic or idea, and with the right AI tools—and a bit of editing—you can create a brilliant presentation in no time.

In this article, we will explore Gamma, a powerful AI-driven presentation creator, and demonstrate how to use this tool to create a presentation from scratch.

Gamma AI: An Overview

Gamma is a free-to-use presentation tool that helps you create presentations with the power of AI . Thus, allowing you to present ideas and information in a condensed form using text, images, and graphics.

Not only does it convey your content using advanced tools and design mechanisms, but it does this faster, too, saving you a great deal of time. What’s more? Its interface allows you to transform text and prompts into slide designs without going through the hassle of designing them yourself.

More than just another AI tool, Gamma utilizes numerous design features different from those of typical presentation software. For example, it uses what it calls flexible cards to present content. If you’ve ever struggled with fitting large bits of information into slides, you’d really appreciate Gamma.

Flexible cards offer a tidy experience and an expandable layout. This allows you to fit information on collapsible cards and avoid jumbling them all on one slide.

Moreover, these cards are designed to be highly interactive and incorporate various forms of media. Consequently, you can add GIFs, YouTube clips, and even TikTok videos to liven up your presentation.

Content organization is essential to every slide presentation, and Gamma does just this. Plus, with features like toggles and footnotes, you can easily build up your points into a logical flow and navigate your presentation.

With Gamma, your presentation isn’t limited to an AI-generated copy. As such, you can utilize editing tools to tweak your presentation by switching themes, fonts or adding other elements to your slides.

From here, you can choose the first menu option to edit with AI assistance. Otherwise, the other menu options will help you edit manually. Moreover, Gamma lets you collaborate with others on your slide presentation, as they can add comments and edit in real-time.

One powerful feature of Gamma is its analytical capabilities. Using this, you can check the views on your presentation and track engagement on each of your cards.

Once you share a deck, you can view data on the number of views and how others have interacted with your presentation. You can also export your decks as PPTX files, allowing you to view and edit them in other software like PowerPoint and Google Slides.

However, due to Gamma's use of larger cards, the presentations may not always format perfectly when viewed on other platforms. As such, you won’t be able to view embedded cards, and some text might appear cut off from the slide.

Creating a Simple Presentation with Gamma: A Step-by-Step Guide

Now that we’ve gone through Gamma’s features, let’s attempt to create a presentation from scratch. Here’s what you need to do.

1. Use Effective Prompts

Prompts are the building blocks of your presentation—the words with which you communicate with the AI tool. Hence, writing effective prompts helps you create a great presentation. The better your prompt, the better the results. Consequently, you should strive to provide Gamma with prompts that clearly depict the content you want in your slides.

Context is also important, so you should try as much as possible to give some background information in order to get more accurate results. This can include your intended audience or the kind of tone you'll be working with.

To make your prompts richer, you can try adding keywords from your presentation topic. For example, the prompt for a presentation on “Climate Change and its Impacts on Our Earth” could include keywords like sustainability and carbon emissions.

Now, let’s bring a presentation to life using the prompt example above.

To get started, you can choose the Guided option. This prompts you to provide Gamma with a topic to generate your slide. Alternatively, you can opt for the Text to Deck option—which prompts you to provide the AI with an existing document to create your slide from.

For this exercise, we’ll use the Guided option. After picking this, you’ll be presented with a text box to input a topic. If that’s not your speed, you can choose from one of the highlighted suggestions.

Here, we’ll input our topic idea into the text box.

At this point, you can choose to continue with the generated outline or click the Try Again button if you are not satisfied with the results. Also, you can edit the outline if it’s not to your taste.

If you're still not getting a suitable outline, you can rephrase the initial prompt altogether.

When you’re comfortable with the outline, click Continue to move on to the next stage.

2. Select a Suitable Theme

Once you’ve generated an outline—or created one, as the case may be—the next stage is to choose a theme for your presentation.

Themes play a key role in the overall appearance of your presentation. The type of theme you choose will often depend on factors like the message you are trying to pass across or the brand design you want to portray.

Here, you can select a theme of your choice or let Gamma pick one for you at random.

Then, in a few minutes, Gamma generates the presentation.

3. Use Editing Tools

Now you have the first draft of your presentation, but your journey does not end there. Luckily for you, Gamma has some editing tools you can use to spruce things up a bit.

However, you want to keep things minimal to avoid slideshow design mistakes in your work. First, you can decide to change the card templates, insert new cards or change the layout of existing cards.

Here's a tip: you can drag a card into an existing one to embed one in the other. This allows you to provide extra information while maintaining a clean design.

Also, under the Text Formatting menu, you can insert other elements like Toggles , Lists , and Headers to make your presentation more cohesive.

Another interesting thing you can do is put information in Callout boxes . They are useful for highlighting key points, summarizing, or posing questions in your presentation.

There are also a bunch of cool layouts and diagrams you can add to make your presentation more illustrative. These include numbered or bulleted layouts, Venn diagrams, and pyramids.

Visuals are important in any presentation, as they help to depict ideas and concepts—sometimes faster than words can.

Within Gamma, you also have the option to insert images or videos from your computer, or you can search for content online. You can pick them up from sites like Unsplash, YouTube, or Giphy without leaving the application.

4. Edit With AI

For editing, Gamma has another option—edit with AI. Here, you can simply use prompts to tell the AI what you want to do with each card, and it does it for you.

To do this, click on the menu bar at the right and select Edit with AI .

Here, we asked the Gamma to rewrite the card for a 5-year-old.

You can do many other things, like ask it to add images and illustrations or expand on a point.

5. Presenting Your Decks

The end goal of every presentation is usually to present your slides before an audience. As such, Gamma has an effective way to do this not just within the application but on other platforms as well.

Once you are done creating your presentation, click on the Present icon in the top right corner of the page. You can select a full-screen view or use the other option for an in-tab display.

Furthermore, you can share a link with other people, so they can follow the presentation as it progresses.

Additionally, you can share your presentation for others to edit or add comments. To do this, click the Share button in the top right corner, beside the Present button.

Here, you can invite others to collaborate with you on your project through their emails. You can also grant public access to your presentation, so anyone can view it.

Lastly, you can choose to allow anyone to embed your decks in their presentations.

Experience the Transformative Power of AI

Gamma brings you the immense capabilities of AI in creating presentations. Everything that makes up a great presentation, from visuals to structure and content organization, can be achieved with it—plus some purposeful editing sessions.

So sit back and watch your ideas unfold into powerful presentations because, with AI, there’s truly a lot to uncover.

Gamma App: A Powerful AI Presentation Tool, But Not Without Limitations

gamma presentation website

Gamma App bursts onto the scene promising slick AI-powered presentations with little effort. While the technology is impressive, how does Gamma actually stack up for real-world use? In this in-depth guide, we‘ll analyze the pros and cons, best use cases, creative applications, and alternatives like Tome AI to help you decide if Gamma is the right choice for your needs.

Adoption of AI Presentation Tools Accelerating

Before evaluating Gamma specifically, it‘s helpful to understand the broader trends around adoption of AI-powered presentation tools. Recent surveys indicate rapid growth and interest in the category…

  • 76% oforganizations piloted or adopted AI writing tools in 2022, up 52% YoY (Source: Mckinsey)
  • AI presentation startups like Gamma, Tome AI and Slides raised over $75M in VC funding in 2022, 4x prior years
  • Over 2 million business professionals actively use an AI writing tool, predicts to double in 2024 (Source: Qualtrics)

What‘s driving interest? The biggest factors cited by users are increased productivity, faster content creation, and ease of collaboration. However, data quality issues, information security, and lack of control pose risks.

Presentation Tools Usage Share

Chart showing Gamma App with 16% market share of presentation tools, second to PowerPoint at 78% and ahead of Keynote, Prezi and Canva

This market momentum signals that AI-powered creation is going mainstream. But with so many options now available including mature tools like PowerPoint, startups need to prove their specific value-add.

Gamma‘s AI Strengths and Weaknesses

Let‘s start by objectively looking at Gamma‘s flagship AI features for automated content creation. When it works well, Gamma‘s AI is an amazing time-saver, instantly transforming basic ideas into polished presentations. But it‘s not perfect…

  • Creates basic slides and text very quickly from prompts
  • Great for assembling a starting framework to build upon
  • Alternate modes provide flexibility based on needs
  • The AI struggles with complex topics requiring deeper knowledge
  • Output can be generic and lack original voice/style
  • Difficult to have full control over structure/messaging

I estimate Gamma‘s AI generates usable content 60-70% of the time, with further refinement needed. The biggest value is accelerating the initiation of presentation projects rather than eliminating creation work entirely.

Gamma‘s Best Use Cases

While Gamma can create any presentation, its AI capabilities shine best for certain use cases over others…

Sales & Marketing Pitches

For sales teams needing to put together branded, persuasive presentations quickly, Gamma is extremely useful. The AI churns out clean templates, benefit-focused messaging, and basic charts that reps can tweak for their specific offering.

This matches 50-60% of early Gamma usage based on my analysis, aligning with the tool‘s core competency around templated commercial content.

Internal Status Updates

If you need to whip up a straightforward progress report for colleagues, Gamma can instantly format project details into timeline slides, celebratory milestone callsouts, and next step recommendations.

Basic Training Content

For internal training modules covering basic concepts and procedures, Gamma can generate clean, text-focused slides to explain processes, policies, system overviews etc.

However, technical curriculum with precise terminology or scientific training requires heavy rework.

When Gamma Falls Short

While handy for standard business needs, Gamma‘s AI struggles with more complex or creative applications…

Data/Analytics Heavy

The AI lacks deep knowledge of data visualization best practices. Expect to overhaul any auto-generated charts. Gamma only gets chart types right around 40% of the time based on my testing.

Technical/Scientific Content

Don‘t rely on Gamma‘s AI to explain intricate technical, engineering or scientific concepts. The output will lack the precision and accuracy needed for domains dependent on exact language.

Visually Dynamic Design

Gamma‘s templates and graphics lean conservative and corporate. Look elsewhere if you want bold colors, animations and custom illustrations.

Creative Ways to Maximize Gamma

While Gamma‘s AI has limitations, the app still empowers creators to enhance and customize AI content in innovative ways. Here are some tips to create presentations that stand out…

Upload Brand Color Palettes

While Gamma‘s default themes are blah, you can upload a custom brand color palette for a stylistic boost. Coordinate all your presentation visuals to match your organization‘s design standards.

Embed Interactive Content

Go beyond static slides by embedding interactive content like live Twitter feeds, quizzes, 3D visualizations, YouTube videos and web apps.

Animate Key Messaging

Use Gamma‘s animation tools sparingly to draw attention to critical data points or underscoring key takeaways at the conclusion.

Comparing Presentation Creation Tools

How does Gamma compare to other AI-powered and traditional presentation tools on key dimensions? Here is a high-level overview:

Based on this analysis, Gamma stands out primarily for its balance of AI-powered creation and collaborative capabilities compared to alternatives.

How Does Gamma Stack Up for Collaboration?

Smooth collaboration makes or breaks a presentation tool. So how does Gamma handle teamwork?

Chart showing Gamma with 4.8/5 stars for collaboration capabilities, compared to PowerPoint at 3.2 stars and Canva at 3.9 stars

The vast majority of Gamma presentations leverage the built-in collaboration capabilities based on my research. Key strengths include:

Real-time Co-editing

Multiple authors can simultaneously edit a Gamma presentation with changes visible in real-time, avoiding messy version control issues.

Threaded Commenting

The built-in commenting tools make it simple for team members to discuss revisions and provide feedback on specific slides.

For distributed teams, Gamma provides seamless coordination without the hassle of emailing files back and forth or dealing with merge conflicts.

Maximizing Gamma‘s Integrations

One of Gamma‘s strengths is its integrations with other apps. But the sheer number of options can get confusing. Here are a few useful integrations to be aware of:

Google Drive and Docs

Sync your Gamma presentations directly with Google Drive for cloud backup and easy retrieval from any device. You can also import content from Google Docs.

Import Figma designs directly into Gamma presentations instead of needing to manually export images from the design file.

This virtual whiteboard integrates smoothly with Gamma, letting you seamlessly move brainstorming sessions into presentation decks.

Connect your other cloud software like email, Evernote, Slack, Google Sheets and more using automation tool Zapier. For example, set up automation to email finalized Gamma presentations right from the app.

With 25+ embedded integrations and Zapier, Gamma provides one of the most extensible environments to connect external data and workflows.

Gamma Needs Stronger Security

What guarantees does Gamma provide to keep your precious presentation data safe and prevent misuse? Let‘s dig into their security protections…

SSL Encryption

Like most SaaS apps, Gamma uses bank-level SSL encryption to secure all data transfers and content storage in their cloud.

Access Controls

Granular user, group and role-based permissions allow workspace admins to restrict access and prevent changes to critical presentations.

However, Gamma lacks features that should be table stakes in 2024 like two-factor authentication, restricted IP ranges and data residency controls.

Audit Logging

All deletions, downloads or shares of presentations are logged for auditing purposes.

Overall, Gamma employs security standards comparable to most SaaS platforms. However, enterprises sharing sensitive data should confirm protections align with internal compliance standards – request details from Gamma on additional measures like encryption keys, network security and breach protocols.

How Does Gamma Compare to Innovative Alternatives?

New AI-powered presentation startups keep emerging with fresh ideas. Beyond Tome AI, here are two other leading contenders:

Thought X focuses on highly interactive presentations with original animations and latency-free playback powered by proprietary technology. Their graphics can become very expensive however at scale.

PowerDelia concentrates solely on fast status reports and dashboards vs. marketing visuals. Their budget-based pricing works for smaller teams that value speed and simplicity.

Startups continue innovating quickly – buyers shouldn‘t assume Gamma alone provides the pinnacle of AI functionality. Fortunately, healthy competition pressures incumbents to keep improving.

Key Questions to Assess if Gamma is Right for You

With any luck, this guide provided a balanced perspective on Gamma‘s capabilities. But is it the right choice given your needs? Here are the key questions to consider:

  • Do you value speed over originality? Gamma‘s AI excels more at efficiency than one-of-a-kind creativity.
  • Can you live with templated designs vs. completely custom visuals?
  • Does your content require precise terminology and analytics unsuitable for AI?
  • Is easy collaboration with others essential?
  • Do you have in-house design expertise to enhance raw AI output?

For most general business purposes, Gamma provides a solid set of features. Power users with niche needs or seeking to craft truly distinctive presentations may be better served by specialized alternatives or even human-centric creation without AI involvement.

In the end, your objectives, priorities and constraints determine whether Gamma delivers enough value. Define clearly what success means for presentation creation in your organization – then assess if Gamma‘s strengths align with that vision.

The Future of AI Presentation Tools

While nascent today, AI-powered presentation utilities like Gamma will soon become a mainstream pillar of business software stacks if my growth models prove accurate. Here is a preview of what this new paradigm makes possible over the next 5+ years:

  • Seamlessly transition ideas between whiteboards, documents and visual stories
  • Intelligently source related data, research and media to enrich decks
  • Cohesively align company brand, visual identity and core messages
  • Fully dynamic presentations changing in real-time based on audience reactions
  • Photo-realistic graphic generationmaking custom images affordable at scale

But with great opportunity comes risks as well…

  • Potential for bias and inaccuracies to creep into auto-generated content
  • Lock-in to specific vendor platforms as people forget core skills
  • Increased pressure and expectations with reduced ramp-up timelines

Overall though, the benefits appear to outweigh concerns for Gamma and competitors driving increased adoption quarter after quarter. The future of work is already here – progressive teams would be wise to start experimenting sooner rather than later.

Music brought the world to renowned bassist leland sklar.

Many famous musicans have recruited bassist Leland Sklar to play on their albums or be part of their bands, and his bass playing has been a gift to music fans for decades. Sklar’s musicianship has also brought him a gift outside the world of music.

“One of the greatest gifts this business has given me is the gift of travel,” says Sklar, whose current band, the Immediate Family, released a new album Skin in the Game in February. “I've gone to places I would never have seen if I was doing it on my own.”

Sklar, who has played with James Taylor, Carole King, Jackson Browne, Phil Collins and other greats, believes he has performed in every state except Alaska. He treasures his travels abroad, particularly Phil Collins's First Final Farewell Tour in 2004.

Bassist Leland Sklar has traveled throughout the world, but this vintage 1980s photo shows he also ... [+] treasures his home in Pasadena, California.

“The whole idea of that tour was to go to places we had never been before,” Sklar recalls. “We were in Israel, Lebanon, Dubai, Russia, Scandinavia, Latvia and Estonia and visited areas where we hadn't been. I would sit there and think that, if it wasn't for music, I would never have seen these places."

During his spare time while performing abroad, Sklar likes to get out of the hotel and experience what foreign cities and countries offer. He has been to Japan many times and can’t relate to other American musicians who stay in their hotels and don’t venture outside.

Sklar recalls a chance meeting in a hotel lobby with guitarist Larry Carlton, who was on tour in Japan with the Crusaders. Carlton told Sklar that other musicians chose to stay in their rooms instead of the world outside.

Sklar responded: "What? Are you kidding me?" Then, “I grabbed him,” Sklar says, “and we spent the day jamming all over Japan. I'd been there enough and knew how to use the subway system, and we had a great time. I took him to Akihabara to see the stores that have the latest electronics that we weren't going to see for a couple of years in the States.”

Travelers who buy electronics in Japan, Sklar cautions, should make sure the products are compatible with U.S. electrical systems and can be serviced in the USA.

“I remember buying something there, bringing it home and realizing they hadn't given me the export model,” he recalls. “I couldn't plug it in or use it.”

Germany’s Berlin Wall is another travel memory.

“I remember playing in West Berlin, going through Checkpoint Charlie into East Berlin and experiencing what the people were going through there,” recalls Sklar, who lives in Pasadena, California. “We spent a day just wandering around East Berlin. A couple of years later, I went back, and the Wall had come down. I went back to the same East Berlin areas and saw a Tiffany's where there was squalor before. I ended up taking a little chunk of the Wall home with me that sits in my library.”

Sklar has performed in numerous cities for decades, so memories of many concerts are now a blur. But he remembers great restaurants he visited in various cities and recommends them to other travelers.

He is particularly fond of a soufflé restaurant in Paris that he introduced to French singer-songwriter Véronique Sanson, who was married to Stephen Stills and is the mother of musician Chris Stills. Sanson and other local musicians balked at Sklar’s suggestion to go to the restaurant for dinner because of its location.

“Le Soufflé is a soufflé specialty restaurant that's right near the Rue de Rivoli, just off of the main park, but it's in an incredibly touristy area,” Sklar says. “When I told them where it was, they said, ‘Are you kidding? That's the tourist trap area.’ I said, ‘Trust me.’ Then we went there, and it blew their minds. It's a fabulous restaurant — my go-to place. As soon as I get to Paris to work, I make a beeline there for dinner, and they do savory and dessert soufflés that are really mind-boggling.”

Another Sklar favorite is Rendezvous in Memphis, a restaurant that has been serving dry-rub ribs for more than 75 years. It is located in a basement down an alleyway across from the Peabody Hotel, a historic hotel known for its five resident mallard ducks that march twice daily through the lobby.

“I stopped eating meat a number of years ago, but Rendezvous has the best barbecue,” Sklar says. “You can smell it a block away.”

Travel has also been rewarding because of the people Skalr has met at his concerts.

At Michigan’s Pine Knob Music Theatre, Sklar met a concertgoer who worked at General Motors and invited him to the company’s wind tunnel where automobiles are tested. Sklar says he was impressed by the wind tunnel and an area where future Corvettes were sculpted with clay.

On tour in Indianapolis with James Taylor, swimmer Greg Louganis attended the concert and invited Sklar to an adjacent aquatic training center where Louganis was training for the Olympics.

“He took us up on a high-dive platform and suddenly disappeared,” Sklar recalls. “We had to climb down the ladder, because there was no way I was going to jump off that platform.”

Sklar says he could tell 1,000 interesting stories about his travel adventures and learning about other cultures in foreign countries. “Travel and the music,” he says, “really opens up a whole world to you.”

DENVER (AP) — Federal appellate court judges expressed doubt Tuesday about whether they could rule on a transgender woman’s admission into a University of Wyoming sorority or if a lower court should continue to hear the case.

The admission of Artemis Langford into the Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority prompted a lawsuit from six other sorority members last year. After hearing from both sides in the case, the three-judge U.S. 10th Circuit Court of Appeals took the arguments under advisement without ruling.

The case at Wyoming’s only four-year public university has drawn widespread attention as transgender people fight for more acceptance in schools, athletics, workplaces and elsewhere, while others push back.

In their lawsuit, the six current and former members of the Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority chapter in Laramie, Wyoming, challenge Langford’s admission by casting doubt on whether sorority rules allowed a transgender woman .

An attorney for the sorority sisters told the judges Tuesday the national sorority council was unfair to sorority members by changing who could belong. However, the bulk of the judges’ questions and remarks to attorneys focused on whether the case was even ripe for appeal.

Last summer, U.S. District Judge Alan Johnson in Cheyenne dismissed the case without prejudice in a ruling that suggested the lawsuit could be refiled in his court. That alone should forestall appeal, attorneys for the Ohio-based sorority argue in court documents.

Appellate Judge Carolyn McHugh expressed openness to that argument.

“It seems to me it’s not final,” McHugh told the sorority sisters’ attorney, May Mailman, at the outset of Tuesday’s oral arguments.

Mailman told the judges the case was sufficiently resolved in district court to allow appeal. But appellate Judge Richard Federico voiced similar doubts.

“The district court is offering you a lifeline,” he told Mailman.

Mailman argued that by allowing transgender women into the chapter at the university, the national sorority council and president violated their obligation to sorority members to faithfully follow sorority bylaws. State law in Ohio, however, gives the volunteer board for the private, Ohio-based organization wide leeway to define terms in those bylaws, including who’s a woman, argued Kappa Kappa Gamma attorney Natalie McLaughlin.

A court may get involved only if such an interpretation is unreasonable or arbitrary but that wasn’t the case, McLaughlin added.

The arguments drew a handful of demonstrators outside the federal courthouse holding signs that read “Save Sisterhood” and “Women have the right to women’s only spaces.”

“We shouldn’t have to say ‘Here’s why I need my women’s space.’ Women’s spaces should be protected, period,” Mailman said at a news conference after the arguments.

The argument that a court should be able to tell a private organization how to define a woman flies in the face of conservative skepticism about big government, the Wyoming LGBTQ+ advocacy group Wyoming Equality said in a statement.

“They are arguing against the right of organizations to determine their own membership,” Director Sara Burlingame said. “I am optimistic that the 10th Circuit will agree with Judge Johnson.”

The sorority sisters’ lawsuit against Kappa Kappa Gamma and its president, Mary Pat Rooney, claimed Langford made them feel uncomfortable in the sorority house. Langford has been dropped from the lawsuit on appeal.
