The movie's main issues stem from the overstuffed plot. Some characters end up horribly underdeveloped as a result, and so do multiple plot threads. reveal was effective at first, but then baffling. It's never hinted at, it's never explained as in the motivations of the main antagonist. The antagonists kinda suck, truth be told.

The film "Amsterdam" is nicely written and directed by David O. Russell. It's the story about friendship, the relationship between an idealistic doctor, an idealistic black lawyer and a nice looking idealistic artist. Bale, Washington and Robbie is an awesome trio. Bales acting is remarkable.

The Undeserved Hate on Amsterdam : r/movies
The problem with r/movies is that most members view films from the PoV of a film critic rather than a simple lover of cinema. Went in with low expectations like so many, but thoroughly enjoyed so many aspects - the performances, Margot's chemistry with John, the whole whimsical nature of the film (someone called it an inferior Wes Anderson movie).

Why did the 2022 movie Amsterdam seem to get such bad film reviews?
So to me the movie is highly fitting and a good commentary on power and greed. I therefore find it very difficult to understand why exactly the movie got so much hate and bad reviews. Because it wanted a lot? To me it showed perfectly well how the „little" people experience life versus how the „powerful" people make sure they stay powerful.
