Save Girl Child Essay in English in 500 Words

Dive into a comprehensive exploration of the imperative to ‘Save Girl Child’ in this 500-word essay, addressing societal challenges, advocating for gender equality, and proposing impactful solutions.

The “Save Girl Child” campaign is a poignant call to action against gender-based discrimination. In a world where girls often face the threat of female foeticide and societal neglect, this initiative strives to reshape perspectives and secure the well-being of the girl child.

The root of the issue lies in deep-seated patriarchal norms that perpetuate gender bias. Female foeticide, the deliberate abortion of female fetuses, reflects a disturbing preference for male children. This practice not only denies girls the right to life but perpetuates a cycle of gender imbalance. Consequently, societies face numerous challenges, including a skewed sex ratio and a lack of diversity.

To address this critical issue, it is essential to understand the multifaceted aspects of the “Save Girl Child” initiative. One pivotal element is education. Providing girls with access to quality education is not only a fundamental right but also a catalyst for societal transformation. Education empowers girls, equipping them with knowledge and skills to break free from the shackles of traditional gender roles. When girls are educated, they contribute significantly to their communities, fostering economic growth and social progress.

Moreover, challenging gender stereotypes is integral to changing societal attitudes towards the girl child. Discriminatory beliefs that perceive girls as liabilities need to be dismantled. Families and communities must recognize the inherent value and potential within every girl, encouraging them to dream big and aspire to any role in society.

The government plays a crucial role in shaping policies that protect and uplift the girl child. Enforcing stringent laws against female foeticide and infanticide is imperative. Simultaneously, promoting initiatives that provide financial aid and incentives for families to educate and support their girl children can be instrumental in breaking the cycle of gender-based discrimination.

Cultural celebrations of the birth of a girl child are equally significant. By changing the narrative and celebrating the arrival of a girl with the same enthusiasm as that of a boy, communities can challenge existing norms and foster an environment where girls feel valued and cherished.

Economic support is another linchpin in the “Save Girl Child” movement. Poverty often exacerbates gender discrimination, as families may view girls as economic burdens. Implementing measures that alleviate financial strains, such as scholarships or employment opportunities, can dismantle this perception and create an environment where families perceive the value of educating and nurturing their girl children.

Breaking down deep-rooted biases requires community-wide awareness campaigns. Education programs that highlight the importance of gender equality, the potential of girls, and the negative consequences of discrimination can challenge societal norms and pave the way for lasting change.

In conclusion, the “Save Girl Child” initiative is a holistic approach to rectifying gender imbalances and discrimination. Through education, legal enforcement, economic support, and cultural shifts, societies can create an environment where every girl child is not only saved but also celebrated, empowered, and given equal opportunities to contribute to the progress of humanity. The journey to save the girl child is a collective responsibility, requiring concerted efforts from individuals, communities, and governments alike.

If you’ve been asked to write an essay on ‘save girl child’ , we’ll help you with the points you’d need to cover in it. Scroll down to read more on this.

Girl child should be saved in India

One can’t deny the universally acknowledged fact that girls are a necessary part of the human society. But due to the constant declining sex ratio of women that are a result of the atrocities done against women, the female gender is already going through an existential crisis, especially in developing countries like India.

In order to maintain a proper ratio of boys against girls, the country has to save girl child. In the Indian society, this has become one of the most sensitive issues of recent times. However, there are lots of NGOs and other organizations that now fight for the rights of women and initiate the ‘save girl child’ campaigns.

India has been home to this extremely sad practice of aborting girl child before its birth. Girls should be saved and they should be blessed with equal opportunity and respect to move forward in life.

The biggest reason for saving girls is that the entire destiny of the civilization lies in the hands of women as without them; there is no creation of new life.

Saving girl child

Since time immemorial, girls have been subject to different types of atrocious and heinous crimes and discrimination in countries like India. Among them, the most horrific one is female feticide.

Here, girls are killed when they are inside the womb of their mother so that the mother doesn’t give birth to a girl child. An ultrasound is done where the doctor used to tell the gender of the baby and it was then that mean-minded people committed this crime.

Among the various vices of the society, one of the biggest one is the constant desire among households to have a boy. In India, women strive to become an ideal daughter, wife, sister and mother. But as long as relatives are concerned, they will never want that girl to be called his blood relation.

Apart from these reasons, there are several other social evils that have been stemmed within the Indian society due to which parents try their best to avoid giving birth to a girl child. Besides female feticide, dowry deaths have also led to the death of thousands of women.

Girls and their capabilities

The present India that we live in doesn’t like to create gender discriminations by assigning gender roles. There’s nothing that a man can do and that a woman can’t.

In fact girls are way ahead of boys in several fields. Despite that there is the illiterate community that prefer a boy so that he could carry forward their family’s legacy and play a role in earning the bread for the family.

Girls have been striving hard to prove the fact that they can be even better than boys in certain fields. Thanks to their dedication and hard work that they have also been to space and contributed a lot to the NASA.

Girls tend to be more obedient, talented, responsible and hardworking and hence they are great family makers too. Girls are more caring and they tend to love their parents much more than the boys. Whatever they do, they give in their 100%.

Government participation of the ‘Save Girl Child’ campaign

In order to save girl child, the Indian government has already taken several initiatives like launching campaigns to save girls. Among the latest initiatives taken by the government of India, Beti Bachao and Beti Padhao are the most recent ones.

The government actively began this campaign in order to involve many people who could save the girl child. Besides, there are several companies, NGOs, corporate firms and human rights commission that also run different campaigns to save girl child.

The crime that is done against women is said to be the biggest obstacle to the growth and development of India, as a nation. Nevertheless, the government gives utmost importance to these problems.

Like for example, for abolishing crimes like female feticide, they have banned the entire process of determining sex before the birth of the child, scan tests in labs and hospitals and amniocentesis. Such steps are taken keeping in mind the fact that girls are never a burden on Earth but they are a gift of God.

Impact of Female Feticide

The total number of girls against boys is reducing drastically due to female feticide. To fuel the strong desire to have a son, people often sacrifice the lives of their unborn daughters.

Moreover, female feticide is considered a huge legal crime since 1961 and there was legal provision to punish the couple that committed this crime. Not only that, there is also a provision of punishing the chambers and doctors that conducted the sex determination exam.

Girls have always been able to handle duties perfectly well in their households. Whether the woman is working or is a homemaker, she has been able to juggle different tasks and excel in multi-tasking. After knowing all these, it is really a mystery about why couples always look forward to having a son.

A girl child deserves equal life as a boy and she should be respected and loved by all. They’ve already proven their worth and hence they should be considered as equal to boys in any field.

Save girl child & importance of girl child in indian society.

India is rising. Our country is zooming ahead in all fields that count at break neck speed. The boom in economy, innovative technologies and improved infrastructure are testament to that. Women have provided considerable contribution to this progress, with them taking up every possible job. From preparing the morning breakfast to sending the Orbiter to Mars, they have made their presence felt in every sphere of life. Yet in every strata of the Indian society, there still remains a cloud of apprehension and insecurity when a girl child is born. Discrimination against a girl begins at her conception and shapes up to be the monster she has to fight every moment of her waking existence. Her second rate citizenship is reflected in the denial of fundamental needs and rights and in such harmful attitudes and practices as a preference for sons, female genital mutilation, incest, sexual exploitation, domestic abuse, discrimination, early marriage, less food and less access to education. Deep-rooted patriarchal perceptions project women as liabilities. There lurks in the Indian conscience, a foul monster of hypocrisy, when the Kali-Durga-Lakshmi worshippers take no time in putting women down or dismissing them as a mere afterthought.

Reasons for The Flawed Sex Ratio

Traditions and rituals outline the existence of the Indian girl child. Amidst uproars of gender equality and enforcement of laws protecting their wellbeing, female infants are still found dumped in trash, by the dozens. Unborn fetuses continue to be sniffed in the womb and terminated without second consideration if their existence is even hinted at. As more and more female fetuses are still being selectively aborted after illegal pre-natal sex determination, the number of female infants per 1000 male infant is rapidly declining. Skewed sex ratio is a silent emergency. But the crisis is real, and its persistence has profound and frightening implications for society and the future of mankind. Continuing preference for boys in society, for the girl child the apathy continues, the child sex ratio in India has dropped to 914 females against 1,000 males, one of the lowest since Independence according to Census 2011. According to global statistics, the normal child sex ratio should be above 950:1000. While southern states like Kerala can boast of a ratio of 1084 females per 1000 males, the most alarming scenario prevails in the northern states like Haryana, Rajasthan and even Delhi, with number of girl child as low as 830 per 1000 male children.

The basic reason for this sorry state of child sex ratio (0-6 years) is the preference for a male child from social and economic perspectives. Female feticide as well as killing of female infants is the biggest contributor. The four primary reasons behind this, according to experts, are,

(1) Pre-existing low social position of women – Women are still considered second rate citizens who do not have the right to basic freedom and privileges that men enjoy. Their roles are primarily fixed as domestic help, tools for pleasure of their men and instruments for procreation.

(2) Economic burden – Outlook that a girl child is an economic burden is basically due to the prevalence of dowry system still abundant in the society. The evil practice of having to give money to the groom’s side in order to get their daughter married is a huge imposition in a country as poverty ridden as India. As a consequence, many families view every girl being born as a potential source of drainage for their hard earned money.

(3) Illiteracy – absence of education is also a contributing factor where women are continuously being blamed for giving birth to girls. Also lack of education and exposure to world keeps them from realizing the potential of their girl child.

(4) Advancement of Diagnostic Techniques – Through modern diagnostic techniques like Ultrasound and Amniocentesis, it is now possible to know the sex of the fetus as early as 12 weeks into the pregnancy. The government has placed strict regulations prohibiting pre-natal sex determination of fetuses in diagnostic centers and hospitals, but it is still prevalent under wraps, in exchange for bribes.

(5) Post-birth Discriminations Against Girls – In scenarios where pre-natal sex determination is not possible, people use brutal customs to get rid of the girl child if the need arises. Headlines like girl babies found abandoned in dumpsters, public gatherings and even trains are commonplace. In states of Rajasthan and Haryana, at many places new born girl child is drowned in boiling milk and even fed pesticides.

Present Status

While the overall sex ratio of the country has gone up since the last census in 2001, from 933 to 940 in 2011, the child sex ratio in the age group 0-6 years has plummeted from 927 to 914.

Mizoram has the highest child sex ratio at 971, very similar to Meghalaya at 970. Haryana remains the state with lowest ratio of 830 per 1000 boys. Numbers are slightly better in Punjab with 840.

At the district level, Lahul and Spiti district in Himachal Pradesh has the highest recorded ratio in that age group at 1013. Jhajjar district of Haryana had the scariest of the numbers, a mere 774 girls against each 1000 boys.

Among the union territories, Daman and Diu has a child sex ratio of 618, while Mahe district in Pondicherry has the highest numbers of 1,176.

Overall, data from the 2011 Census reveals that all 29 states and Union Territories have shown an increase in child sex ratio as compared to the 2001 Census. But the states of Jammu and Kashmir, Bihar and Gujarat have shown a decline in the sex ratio compared with the figures of Census 2001.

This decline in child sex ration figures is cause for alarm. At the same time it demands a serious re-thinking of policies to improve it. It is a matter of consolation that the decline rate has slowed down considerably in the last few years, probably due to the side-effect of growing urbanization and its spread to rural areas.

India has been termed as one of the most dangerous place in the world for a girl child to be born. In the most current data released by the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs (UN-DESA), for 150 countries, for over a span of 40 years, has revealed that India and China are the only two countries in the world where female infant mortality is higher than male infant mortality in the 2000s. The data also depicts that a girl child between the age of 1 to 5 years is 75% more likely to die than a boy child.

Female feticides and infanticides, coupled with deaths of girl child due to neglect and abuse, have skewed the sex ratio and that may have long term socio-psychological effects. The surplus of males in a society leads to many of them remaining unmarried, and consequent marginalization in society and that may lead to anti-social behavior and violence, threatening societal stability and security. We cannot ignore the implications this man-induced alteration of demographic has on the social violence, human development and overall progress of the country.

Although sounding promising, the current scenario is far from being satisfactory. Despite legal provisions, incentive-based schemes, and media messages, many Indians across all societal strata are shunning the girl child from thriving.

Provisions for Safeguarding the Girl Child

Current policies have been directed towards the symptom rather than targeting the direct root cause. Instead of addressing the basic son preference/daughter aversion and low status of women in India, efforts are being made primarily towards the eradication of sex-selection practices.

The Regulation and Prevention of Misuse of Pre Natal Diagnostic Techniques (PNDT) Act came into force in 1994. It was subsequently amended in 2003 to include prevention of use of pre conception diagnostic techniques as well. It is now called the Pre-Conception and Pre-Natal Diagnostics Techniques (Prohibition of Sex Selection) Act.

The government has introduced plans targeted at countering the common psyche of people regarding girls as burdens. The Balika Samriddhi Yojana and Sukanya Samridhi Yojana have been started by the Government in order to help the girl child prosper and not be perceived as an economic burden. Campaigns like the Save the Girl Child and the more recent Beti Bachao, Beti Padao, have been started to create awareness against atrocities faced by the girl child.

Importance of the Girl Child in Indian Society

Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru had opined that “Women empowered means mother India empowered” and to have empowered women in future we need to empower our girl child of today. In ancient Indian societies, women enjoyed ample freedom and respect. Present day champions of women excellence in India are numerous – from a woman Prime Minister, Indira Gandhi, to the heroic deeds of Kiran Bedi, the first woman IPS officer of India, there should be no doubt that our women. Girls are proficient in balancing multiple roles and they are naturally made for multitasking. Today, girls are applying for jobs that were once considered solely for men and tackling them with élan. Not just in their traditional roles of wife, daughter and mothers, girls are even the sole bread-winner of the family. The question remains of changing our perception about girls being fragile, weak and dependent. In today’s India, they are capable of anything. With projects like the Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya aimed at providing young girls an increased chance at education, an educated daughter is surely to make their family proud. Investing in the education of a young girl will contribute significantly towards eradication evil practices like child marriage, premature pregnancy, child abuse etc. which, in turn, creates the vision of a healthier nation.

Introduction to the topic- Save Girl Child

Female foeticide/infanticide, prejudice against the girl in society, women empowerment, conclusion of the essay.

Save Girl Child

Our country India is stained by the rates of killing girls. The Indian soap ‘ Na Aana is Desh meri Laado ‘ clearly depicted the social evils of the society. Indian society has always misinterpreted the birth of a girl child as a burden, as a curse. Even in our society, when someone elder generally blesses a mother or a woman, he or she is most likely to say that may God bless you with a son. The society completely has been blinded by orthodoxy and has lost rationality.

The killing of a baby girl in the womb itself, when it’s just a foetus is called female foeticide.

Similarly, the killing of the baby girl is called female infanticide.

It’s generally the society, the family, the patriarch who does this crime. Hence nowadays, doing gender identification tests through medical assistance is also banned.

But in the lands where people see girls as curses, such practices continues to exist.

Kerala has the highest sex ratio out of all states, while Haryana had the least as per the last census. Haryana government though claims to have become better with initiatives. Still these statistical countings are just a number, there’s more trauma than this to the real picture.

Women are always referred to as the weaker sex. They are often deprived of the equal opportunities that men get. They are often locked in the domestic space and that leads to their illiteracy, inefficiency, financial dependency etc.

Dowry is another social problem which is a result of all and eventually leads to all of them.

Girls are expected to be meek, quiet and humble, though doesn’t matter how the world treats them, how the world ridicules their existence and even justifies that by saying that women are curses anyway, and social burdens.

Women don’t need the tag “that we are mothers, sisters, daughters’ to get themselves empowerment. Women are individuals first, these are the social roles that they play, but is it all about them?

Aren’t they worthy of living without being called daughters, sisters or mothers? These ideas are more disempowering, I believe.

What could redeem women of their lives is education, exposure and fearlessness. Well, fearlessness comes from power, and power comes from knowledge, education, financial independence. Women need to work harder, to fight for their voices, etc. It’s easy to kill them, it takes nothing but a monstrosity. But it’s empowering them that takes it, guts, energy, humanity everything.

India is one of the worst countries for women, women have always been sexually threatened, beaten down in rooms, shut, locked in domesticity etc. Also, that’s why killing them when they are babies doesn’t hurt them. There’s a need for society to change, for people to get out of their cages, live and let them live. And hence, the soil weeps o re chiraiya angna me fir aaja re.

Speech on Save Girl Child In English For Students

A girl child is considered to be a blessing. She can be a mother, a daughter, a friend, and so on, and yet she is not respected and abused both mentally and physically. There are a lot of crimes that are committed against the girl child.

Below two speeches are given which helps in understanding the crimes committed against the girl child, so an initiative that could be taken to save a girl child and why it is important to save a girl child. The long save girl child speech is of 600 words and short speech on save girl child is of 400 words.

Long Speech on Save Girl Child

Good morning everyone! Today I am going to talk about the important topic of saving a girl child in India. What does ‘saving’ imply here? Does that mean they are in danger? The answer is yes. India is a country where on one hand everybody with devotion in their hearts workshop goddesses and on another hand, various crimes are committed against a girl child like female foeticide, no equal right, eve-teasing, child marriage, rape, and the list goes on.

As we know, a girl child is a blessing. She plays many roles in her life. She could be a daughter, a wife, a sister, a friend, and so on. She is considered to be the pillar that runs the home and yet she is not given the respect she deserves.

There are many societies in India where gender discrimination still exists to this date. People in these societies are uneducated and they do not consider girls to be equal to boys. In these societies naturally, women’s rights are a mere joke and gender discrimination and oppression are at their peak.

In India, female foeticide is a worrying practice where a girl child is killed even before she is born that is the reason why finding the sex of a child before birth is banned in India. Even if the girl child is lucky enough and allowed to born in such societies, she has to fight for her survival where a lot of discrimination is done against her. She is oppressed and not provided with proper nutrition compared to her male siblings. She is not given any opportunity to attend school instead she is forced to do household work. This cycle of oppression will continue as long as these uneducated people are not removed from society.

Female foeticide, child marriage, no women’s rights, and rapes are the crimes committed against girls and women. According to a report by the National crime record bureau(NCRB), India recorded 88 rape cases every day in 2019. The security of women and girl children is a series of questions which doesn’t seem to have a definite answer but only excuses.

So, the next question that eventually comes to everyone’s mind is how a girl child is saved?. The government of India is also concerned with girls’ safety and the declining child sex ratio and has launched various schemes like Beti Bachao Beti padhao, Sukanya Samriddhi Yojana, Balika Samriddha Yojana, and national schemes of incentives to girls for secondary education.

The Primary Aim of All These Schemes is-

Ensuring a girl child is provided with an opportunity to get an education.

Preventions of selective gender-based abortions as it is vastly committed in remote villages.

The schemes ensure the survival of a girl child and provide security to her life when she is an infant.

To provide a girl child a healthy and secure environment to live and grow.

I want to conclude my speech by saying that Dr BR Ambedkar, the architect of the Indian constitution once said: “I measure the progress of the community by the degree of progress which women have achieved”. We have to take small steps and protect the girl child when she is born. After her birth, it should be ensured that she is provided with proper nutrition and education so that she realizes her dreams. By celebrating, protecting, and educating the girl child we empower her. Last but not least we should remember that a country that empowers women empowers every individual. Thank you!

Short Speech on Save Girl Child

Good morning everyone! Today I am going to give a short speech on saving girl children. India is a country where on one hand everybody with devotion in their hearts workshop goddesses and on another hand, various crimes are committed against a girl child like female foeticide, no equal right, eve-teasing, child marriage, rape, and the list goes on.

As we all know how important a girl child is to society. She plays many important roles like a mother, a daughter, a wife, and so on. She is considered to be the pillar that maintains the peace of the house and yet she is disrespected and abused mentally and physically.

There are many societies in India that are governed by uneducated people where gender discrimination and oppression of girl children is still practice. People in such societies consider a girl child not equal to a male child and basic women rights are rejected for women. Female foeticide is the major crime that is committed even before the girl child is born and if she is lucky enough she is allowed to be born yet she has to fight for her survival.

No food with good nutrition value is provided to her and she grows she is ignored of her right to education and instead she is made to do household chores and before she knows a child marriage is done to her. It surprises me to see the people’s mindset where they consider a girl child to be a servant and when she is old enough she should only produce children. This cycle will repeat as long as there are these uneducated people in society who have such a mindset.

The government of India is also concerned with girls’ safety and the declining child sex ratio and has launched various schemes like Beti Bachao Beti padhao, Sukanya Samriddhi Yojana, Balika Samriddha Yojana, and national schemes of incentives to girls for secondary education. All these schemes ensure that a girl child is provided with a good environment where she is loved, cared and motivated to achieve her dreams by providing her quality education.

I want to conclude my speech by saying that Dr. BR Ambedkar, the architect of the Indian constitution once said: “I measure the progress of the community by the degree of progress which women have achieved”. We have to take a small step towards a new India where a girl child is protected from the moment she is born. She should be loved and cared for by the people around her.

Only by celebrating, protecting, and educating a girl child, we could empower her. This could be done by spreading awareness and changing the mindset of people so that they should welcome a girl child with happiness when she is born. Providing education to all girls and encouraging them to study further so that they could contribute to the growth of the country. Last but not least is to support the women who oppose the violence against them and to create a safe environment for all the women where they feel at home. Thank you!

Essay on Save Girl Child 5 (300 words)

In India, girls have long been victims of various crimes, with female foeticide standing out as a particularly dreadful act. The termination of female fetuses through sex-selective abortions, often determined by ultrasound, has prompted the government to launch the "Save the Girl Child" campaign. This initiative aims not only to curb gender-selective abortions but also to address other crimes against girl children.

Effects of Female Foeticide on Girl-Child Ratio Reduction:

Female foeticide, primarily carried out through sex-selective abortions facilitated by ultrasound technology, has significantly reduced the girl-child sex ratio in India. This harmful practice emerged from societal preferences for male children. The use of ultrasound technology exacerbated the problem, turning it into a formidable issue of gender discrimination and inequality against girls.

A stark decline in the female sex ratio was observed after the national census of 1991, and the problem persisted, becoming more pronounced in the 2001 census. The government took strict measures to ban this practice, yet the reduction in the female population continued until 2011. In Madhya Pradesh, for instance, the ratio dropped from 932 girls per 1000 boys in 2001 to 912/1000 in 2011, indicating that the issue persists, possibly further reducing to 900/1000 by 2021.

Role of Beti Bachao Beti Padhao Awareness Campaign:

The Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao scheme, launched on January 22, 2015, by the Government of India, advocates for saving and educating the girl child. This initiative includes various awareness-building activities such as rallies, wall paintings, television commercials, billboards, animations, videos, essay writing, and debates. Celebrities have also lent their support, contributing to widespread awareness. The campaign has garnered support from both government and non-governmental organizations, playing a pivotal role in enhancing awareness and improving the status of the girl child in Indian society.

Every Indian citizen must adhere to the rules and regulations designed to save the girl child and uplift their societal status. Girls should be treated equally to boys by their parents, providing them with the same opportunities in all areas of life. The "Save the Girl Child" campaign, coupled with initiatives like Beti Bachao, and Beti Padhao, holds the promise of fostering a society where every girl child is valued, protected, and given the opportunities she deserves.

Essay on Save Girl Child 5 (400 words)

The harmony and existence of the human race rely on the equal participation of both men and women. Their joint efforts are crucial for the survival, growth, and development of any nation. While both genders contribute significantly, it is undeniable that women hold a special importance as they play a pivotal role in giving birth to human beings, ensuring the continuity of the human race. Thus, the need to save, respect, and provide equal opportunities for girl children becomes imperative.

Challenges Faced by Women:

Despite their vital role, women have often been victims of heinous crimes like female foeticide, rape, sexual harassment, and dowry deaths in societies shaped by their presence. Such atrocities are shameful reflections of the challenges women face in their civilizations.

Reasons to Save Girl Child:

Saving girl children is not just a moral duty; it is essential for various reasons. Girls exhibit equal capabilities as boys in all fields and have proven to be obedient, less violent, and more responsible. They contribute significantly to their families, jobs, societies, and countries. Recognizing the importance of viewing women with respect, and understanding that every woman is someone's daughter, and every man's wife will be another man's daughter in the future underscores the need for saving, loving, and respecting girls.

Government Initiatives to Save Girl Child:

The Indian government has taken notable steps to save and educate the girl child. The Beti Bachao Beti Padhao initiative, actively supported by the government, NGOs, corporate groups, and human rights activists, stands as a recent and impactful effort. Social organizations have contributed by constructing toilets in girls' schools. These initiatives aim to combat crimes against girl children, recognizing that their safety and well-being are essential for India's growth and development.

A girl child should not be subjected to harm, hatred, or disrespect. Instead, she deserves to be saved, loved, and respected for the betterment of society and the country at large. Girls are equal participants in the development of a nation, and their contributions are invaluable. Recognizing their worth and providing equal opportunities is not just a responsibility but a necessity for fostering a society that thrives on equality, respect, and progress. It is crucial to collectively work towards a future where every girl child is cherished, empowered, and given the chance to fulfill her potential.

Essay on Save Girl Child 6 (500 words)

The sustenance of human life on Earth hinges upon the collective efforts of both women and men. Their equal participation is vital for the survival, growth, and development of any nation. While both genders contribute significantly, the existence of women holds even greater importance as they are the bearers of life. The need to save the girl child becomes imperative not only for the progression of societies but also to ensure the very continuation of the human race.

In India, a disheartening commonality prevails where the birth of a girl child often leads to abortion or even worse, infanticide. This unjust practice deprives these young lives of equal opportunities, respect, and the chance to progress in life. However, the destiny of our civilization lies in their hands, as they are the roots of our creation.

The Plight of the Girl Child:

In Indian society, a prevailing desire for a male child perpetuates social evils like dowry deaths and female feticide. The societal ideal seems to encompass wanting an exemplary mother, sister, wife, and daughter, but often not as a blood relative. These biases contribute to the neglect and mistreatment of girl children, hindering their growth and development.

The Capabilities of Girls:

Despite societal biases, girls have consistently proven their mettle in various fields. Their achievements surpass those of boys, demonstrating talent, obedience, hard work, and a strong sense of responsibility. Girls, with their caring and loving nature, contribute wholeheartedly to their families. Their dedication is evident as they give their best in every endeavor, showcasing their potential and worth in every aspect of life.

Recognizing the urgency to address this issue, the Indian government has implemented various initiatives and campaigns to save the girl child. "Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao" stands as a recent and active initiative encouraging people to value and protect girls. Numerous NGOs, companies, corporate groups, and human rights commissions run campaigns in tandem with government efforts to raise awareness about the significance of saving the girl child.

To combat crimes against women and save the girl child, the government has taken stringent measures. The ban on sex determination ultrasounds, amniocentesis, and scan tests in hospitals and labs serves as a significant step to eliminate practices that devalue the importance of girls. These actions aim to dispel the notion that girls are a burden and instead highlight their status as a precious gift of God.

Our Role in Saving Girl Child:

The responsibility of saving the girl child begins within our own homes. It is crucial to encourage family members, neighbors, friends, and relatives to value and protect girls. Creating awareness about the importance of saving the girl child is essential, and we must actively participate in spreading this message. Additionally, we should celebrate and encourage families to welcome the birth of a girl child with as much enthusiasm as that of a boy.

A girl child deserves a life where she is treated equally to a boy, loved, and respected. Their equal participation in the development and growth of the nation is essential. Girls, through their hard work and dedication, have proven their worth in every field, standing shoulder to shoulder with boys. Ensuring the survival and well-being of the girl child is not just a moral obligation; it is crucial for the existence and prosperity of the human race. Each girl is a beacon of potential, ready to contribute significantly to society and the country at large. Saving the girl child is not just a duty; it is an investment in a future where every girl can thrive, contribute, and be celebrated for her unique abilities.

All the save girl child speech are written using very simple and easy words especially for the students to fulfill their needs and requirements. Dear parents you can motivate your children to take part in the speech recitation at any special occasion celebration in their schools using such simple and easily understandable speeches.

Speech on Save Girl Child

Save girl child speech 1.

First of all I would like to say my humble good morning to the excellencies, respected teachers and my dear colleagues. On this special occasion, I would like to speech over save the girl child. In the Indian society, girl children are considered as the curse from the ancient time. If we think from our own mind the question arise that how the girl child can be a curse. The answer is very clear and full of fact that without a girl child, boy child can never take birth in this world. Then why people do lots of violence again women and girl child. Why they want to kill the girl child before taking birth in her mother’s womb. Why people rape or sexually harass the girls at home, public place, schools or work place. Why a girl is attacked by the acid and why a girl child become victim of various men cruelty.

Save Girl Child

It is very clear that a girl child always become blessing for the society and reason for the continuation of life in this world. We worship many female Goddesses at various festivals however never feel a little bit of kind to the women living in our home. Truly, the girls are pillars of the society. A small girl child can be a good daughter, a sister, a wife, a mother and other good relations in the future. If we kill them before taking birth or do not care after taking birth then how we will get a daughter, sister, wife or mother in future. Is anyone of us has ever thought that what will happen if women deny to be pregnant, give birth to a baby or give all responsibility of their motherhood to men. Are men able to do all such responsibilities. If not; then why girls are killed, why they supposed as curse, why they are burden to their parents or society. Why the eyes are not being open of the people even after many surprised truth and facts about girls.

Now-a-days, women are working outside in the field with the men by meeting shoulder to shoulder together with their all the responsibilities at home. This is a big shame to us that still girls are victims of many violence even they have changed themselves to survive in this modern world. We should actively participate in the campaign of save the girl child by removing the male dominating nature of the society. In India male considered themselves dominating and superior than women which gives rise all the violence against girls. Saving the girl child first needs parents to change their mind. They need to stop neglecting their daughter’s nutrition, education, living style, etc. They need to consider their kids same whether they are girls or boys. It is the parent’s positive thinking towards girls which can change the whole society in India. They should raise the voice against criminal doctors killing innocent girls in the womb before their birth just for getting some money. All the rules and regulations should be tough and active against those who are involved in the crime against girls (whether they are parents, doctors, relatives, neighbors, etc). Only then, we can think and expect a good future in India. Women should also need to be strong and raise their voice. They should learn from the great women leaders in India like Sarojini Naidu, Indira Gandhi, Kalpana chawla, Sunita Williams, etc. Without women everything is incomplete in this world like man, home, and a world itself. So, its my humble request to all of you that please involve yourself in saving the girl child.

Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi has said in his speech on girl child that “Am Standing Before you as Beggar”. He has launched a nationwide campaign named “Beti Bachao-Beti Padhao” (means Save the Girl Child and Educate Her). This campaign was launched by him to spread awareness in the society against female foeticide as well as women empowerment through education. Here are what our Prime Minister has said in his speech:

  • “The prime minister of the country is begging you to save the lives of girls”.
  • “In nearby Kurukshetra (in Haryana), a boy called Prince fell into a well, and the whole nation watched the rescue operation on TV. For one Prince, people united to pray, but with so many girls killed we don’t react”.
  • “We are not worthy of being called citizens of 21st century. It is as if we are from the 18th century – at that time, and just after a girl’s birth, she was killed . We are worse now, we don’t even allow the girl to be born”.
  • “Girls are better performers than boys. If you need proof, just look at exam results”.
  • “People want educated daughters-in-law but think several times before educating their daughters. How can this go on?”

Save Girl Child Speech 2

A very good morning to the respected teachers, my dear friends and other gathered people. I would like to speech on the topic of save girl child at this special occasion. I am very grateful to my class teacher to give such a great opportunity to speech here on this important topic. Saving girl child is a big social awareness programme launched by the government of India to attract human mind on save girl child. The status of women and girl child in India is very clear to all of us. It is no hidden more that how the girls are missing from our society and country day by day. Their percentage in comparison to male are decreasing which is very serious issue. Decreasing number of girls is dangerous to the society and it makes the continuation of life on the earth suspicious. In order to promote the campaign of save girl child, Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi has launched another campaign called “Beti Bachao-Beti Padhao” (means Save the Girl Child and Educate Her).

India is a fast growing country in every fields. It is booming in the field of economy, research, technologies and infrastructure. Even after such a witnessed advancements in the country, violence again girl child is still practiced. It has made its root so deep which is creating problem in getting out completely from the society. Violence again girl child is the very dangerous social evil. The reason of female foeticide is technological improvement in the country such as ultrasound, sex determination tests, scan tests and amniocentesis, detect genetic abnormalities, etc. All such technologies have given way to various rich, poor and middle class families to detect sex of fetus and abort in case of girl baby.

Earlier amniocentesis was used (started in India in 1974) to detect only fetal abnormalities however later it was started detecting gender of the child (started in 1979 Amritsar, Punjab). However it was forbidden by the Indian Council of Medical Research but it has already destroyed many girl child before their birth. As soon as the test leaked its benefits, people started using it to fulfill their wish to get only boy baby by destroying all the unborn girl child through abortion.

Female foeticide, infanticide, lack of proper nutrition, etc are the issues of decreasing number of girl child in India. By default if a girl child take birth she face other types of discrimination and negligence by their parents and society such as basic nutrition, education, living standard, dowry death, bride burning, rape, sexual harassment, child abuse, and so many. It is very sad to express all the violence against a girl child in our society. India is a country where women are worshiped and called as mother, are still suffering male domination in various ways. According to the UN report, around 750,000 girls are being aborted annually in India especially in the Punjab and Haryana. If the practice of abortion continues for next few years, we surely will see a day without mothers and thus no life.

Generally we all feel proud to be an Indian but for what, to see girl child abortion and other violence against them. I think, we have rights to say ‘proud to be an Indian’ only when we respect and save girl child. We should realize our responsibilities of being an Indian citizen and give a better stop to this evil crime.

Save Girl Child Speech 3

Good morning to the respected teachers and my dear colleagues. As we all have gathered here to celebrate this occasion, I would like to speech on the topic of save girl child. I would like to speech on this topic to spread awareness about the importance of girl child in our lives. In order to remove the practice of cruelty against girl child in the Indian society, the Indian Prime Minister, Narendra Modi has launched a campaign called “Beti Bachao – Beti Padhao”. It is a campaign to spread awareness towards saving and educating the girl child in our home and society. Decreasing sex ratio of the girl child in our country is putting a big challenge in front of us for the future. Life possibility on the earth is because of both male and female however what will happen if the number of one sex is continuously decreasing.

It is very clear that without daughters we have no future. Indian Union Minister Smt. Maneka Gandhi has well said that “Any society with a fewer no. of girls ended up limited and aggressive because love decreased in such a society” at the work-shop organized at Panipat. The main objectives of the campaign of “Beti Bachao – Beti Padhao” is to save girl child and educate them in order to finish the root of violence against them in the society. Girls are generally being deprived of their normal and basic facilities (such as proper nutrition, education, living style, etc) in their family because of the superiority of boy baby. In the Indian society boys are given higher importance than that of girls in terms of nutrition and education. They are generally assigned to do household chores and satisfy other family members whole day against their wish. There is a famous slogan that “If you educate your daughter, you educate two families”. It is very true because educating a man is only educate a person whereas educating a women is educating whole family.

In order to make it a successful campaign, government has promised to give various types of incentives to the villagers after showing involvement in the saving and educating girls. It is to ensure the permanent removal of evils in the society like female foeticide, dowry deaths, sexual exploitation, etc. Female foeticide in India took the air because of the occurrence of gender-selective abortions technology which led to the clear and sharp drop in the ratio of girls child. This technique came in forth

as a worsening problem after the release of 2001 national census as it shown a huge reduction in the female population in some Indian states. It was continues in the results of 2011 national census especially in the prosperous regions of India.

Increasing rate of female foeticide in the Madhya Pradesh was very clear in the census results (932 girls/1000 boys in 2001 whereas 912 girls/1000 boys in 2011 and it is expecting to be only 900/1000 by 2021). Save girl child campaign will be successful only when it is supported by each and every Indian citizen.

Save Girl Child Speech 4

Good morning to the excellencies, respected teachers and my dear friends. The reason of gathering here is to celebrate this special occasion. On this occasion I would like to raise the topic of save girl child through my speech. I hope you all support me and let me fulfill the goal of this speech. As we all know that the status of girl child in our country is very low. In this modern and technological world, people have been very clever. They first go for the sex determination test before giving birth to the new member in the family. And they generally choose the option of abortion is case of girl child and continue pregnancy in case of boy baby. Earlier, cruel people were used to of killing girl baby after her birth however now-a-days they are going for ultrasound for sex determination and kill the girl infant in the mother’s womb.

There is wrong culture against women in India that girls are only consumers whereas boys are money givers. Women in India face lots of violence from the ancient time. However, it is very shame to kill girl child before birth in the mother womb. Old people expect from their daughter-in-laws to give birth to a baby boy instead of girl baby. New couples are in pressure from their family members and relatives to give birth to a baby boy. In such cases, they all go for the sex determination test in the early pregnancy to make their family members happy. However, killing a girl baby in the womb is not the only issues against them. They face a lot after coming in the world in the form of dowry deaths, malnutrition, illiteracy, bride burning, sexual harassment, child abuse, low quality lifestyle, and so many. If she takes birth by mistake, she suffers a lot in the form of punishment and will killing because her brother get full attention by the grandparents, parents and relatives. He gets everything new like shoes, dresses, toys, books, etc from time to time whereas a girl kill her all wishes. She only learn to become happy by seeing her brother. She never get chances of eating nutritious foods and quality education in the nice school.

Sex determination and sex selection are still practiced by the people even after being criminal offense in India. It has been a source of huge business all over the country. Girl child has fundamental rights of equality in the society like boys. The ever decreasing number of girl child in the country is alarming us to do something effective to give a break to it. Women need to get higher and quality education and empowered so that they can fight for their rights. They have rights to think first about their baby (whether girl or boy) in their life and nobody else. Educating them may help a lot to remove this issue from the society and make the future with girls.

Essay on Girl Education for Students and Children

500+ words essay on girl education.

If we look at the demographics, India is one of the most populated countries. However, the rate of girl education is quite low in the country. It is quite troubling to see the figures in a country where women are given the status of goddesses. The figures have significantly improved to an extent but there’s still a long way to go.

Essay on Girl Education

Women were not allowed to even step out of their houses in ancient India , but times are changing. Along with changing times, people’s thinking is also changing. They wish to educate their girls and see them succeed in life. However, this is not the case in rural India which makes for more than 60% of the population. We need to identify the factors responsible for such low rates of girl education to find some solutions.

Factors Contributing to Low Rate of Girl Education

There are various factors that make it impossible for girls to get an education in our country. Firstly, the poverty rate is alarming. Even though education is being made free, it still involves a substantial cost to send girls to school. Therefore, families who are struggling to make ends meet fail to pay the educational expenses of their children.

Secondly, in rural areas, there aren’t many schools. This creates a distance problem as they are located far from the villages. In some areas, students have to walk for three to four hours to reach their school. This is where the safety of the girls gets compromised so parents don’t see it fit to send them off so far.

Furthermore, the regressive thinking of the people makes it tougher for girls to get an education. Some people still believe girls are meant to stay in their houses and look after the kitchen. They do not like women to do any other tasks expect for household ones.

Other than that, social issues like child marriage and child labor also stop the girl from getting an education. Parents pull daughters out of school to marry them off at an early age. Also, when girls indulge in child labor, they do not get time to study.

Benefits of Girl Education

If we wish to see India progress and develop, we need to educate our girl child. They are indeed the future of our nation. Moreover, when they become educated, they will not have to be dependent on others for their livelihood.

One of the most important benefits of girl education is that the country’s future will be brighter and better. Similarly, our economy can grow faster if more and more women become financially strong thereby reducing poverty.

Furthermore, women who are educated can take proper care of their children. This will strengthen the future as lesser kids will die due to a lack of vaccination or a similar reason. Even for women, they will be less likely to become a patient of HIV/AIDS as they will be aware of the consequences.

Most importantly, educated women can result in a decrease in social issues like corruption, child marriage , domestic abuse and more.
