Choosing Presentation Software for Church (MediaShout vs ProPresenter vs EasyWorship vs whatever else)

I'm building a PC to replace our old streaming PC that was running MediaShout 3.5. Not really sure what's out there in terms of new features and what not, especially since we're 4 versions behind so regardless of what we choose there will be a learning curve. One of the things that I know we have issues with is playing videos through MediaShout 3.5. The pricing seems pretty similar. We would rather buy it outright vs a monthly/yearly subscription.

All we really do is slides for music and bible verses, and PowerPoint. CCLI integration seems to be already included. One thing that we do get complaints about sometimes are the lack of different backgrounds. Other than that, we will be streaming via OBS on the same computer. We're running Windows if that changes anything. Let me know if you need more clarification.

MediaShout 6 Worship Software [Review]

Kevin Purcell

MediaShout recently released a major update to their worship presentation software giving MediaShout 6 a cleaner and more tightly integrated user-interface. They’ve streamlined the process of editing the slides users create speeding up the process of importing lyrics and working with other slide show elements like Bible passages. They also Liturgies, a new kind of Cue that creates what many churches call a responsive reading, where the leader and congregation read scripture together out loud.

Long time users of MediaShout will want to spend some time getting used to the new look and layout of the program. My first reaction was quite negative, until I watched the training videos on their support page. After using the new version for a few weeks, I’m impressed and pleased with the new way of doing things. We'll talk about what's new, the strengths of MediaShout 6 and some of the problems in this new version. I also had a tech support issue, so I can share what it's like contacting their support people too.

The changes in MediaShout 6 mostly feel like big improvements. Once a user gets used to the new ways of adding elements to a presentation, they should appreciate the simplicity.

MediaShout Leads the Way in Worship Software

The world of church multimedia grew up over the last decade or more and with it MediaShout leads the way as one of the most feature-complete and mature tools for presenting worship lyrics, Bible verses, and media. In the early days, churches and houses of worship mostly used PowerPoint and typed all of their song lyrics and scripture passages along with sermon outlines. They had to search for multimedia to use as backgrounds or work with the ugly PowerPoint templates provided by Microsoft. Who wants to look at tired PowerPoint templates at work all week and see them in church on Sunday too? Worship presentation software like MediaShout makes things look better and speeds up the creation process.

The MediaShout 6 Control Screen

MediaShout 6 takes its design cue from Microsoft Office using a Ribbon bar at the top and the rest of the workspace below it. Notice in the screen shot below that the program includes six areas. The numbers below correspond with the labels in the image below.

mediashout 6 control screen

  • Ribbon – At the top there’s the Ribbon with tabs for File, Home, Templates, Settings and Advanced.
  • Script – The Script area shows up along the left hand side of the MediaShout 6 window and shows the slides in a presentation. Think of a Script as a list of slides or Cues as MediaShout calls them. You can open more than on Script and shows the Cues in either Full View mode or Notes View mode. Full View mode shows thumbnails of each Cue or slide and Notes View mode will only show the name of each Cue or slide. Notice that you can toggle these two modes with the buttons at the bottom of Script window.
  • Inline Editor – Click on a Cue in the Script list and you will see the contents of the slide in the Inline Editor in the center part of the screen. Here you can click to edit text of any slide or change slide elements like background images or video. You can also add other elements. The Ribbon changes depending on what you've selected in the editor window.
  • Pages Area – Many slides include multiple Pages, like songs with more than one verse or chorus, Bible passages with a few verse, or multiple Pages of text. The Pages area lets you see and order the slides in a single Cue. Drag and drop to reorder the Pages in a Cue or double-click a Page to immediately display it on the display or stage screens.
  • Firebox – The box in the upper right corner lets the user fire Quick Cues. MediaShout 6 includes a logo slide Quick Cue. I put my church’s welcome slide here so that our volunteer, who runs the presentation, can throw that up on the display screen when they get into trouble or when there’s nothing to display during a worship service. If there’s a video or song file playing, hit the pause or stop button to stop the media file playback. Other Quick Cues include a blank screen button, a stop all button which stops all media that’s currently playing, and one called “inherit background”. This cue removes the main elements of the current slide but keeps the background. Let's say you've got a Bible verse showing on the screen with a background picture of the cross. If you want to remove the Bible verse, hit this button and it removes the verse but leaves the background showing.
  • Viewers – The boxes on the right, below the Firebox, show views of slides. MediaShout 6 lets the user customize what shows up in these Viewers and how many Viewers to display at once. I set MediaShout 6 up to show the current and next slides. Change these under the Settings tab in the Ribbon.

MediaShout 6 Inline Editor

change appearance and transition effects

The Inline Editor makes the upgrade worth your time and money. Use the Inline Editor to change and tweak slides in MediaShout 6. Select an element in a chosen Cue and the Ribbon will change. For example, if I select text the text formatting options show up on the ribbon. Select an image and image editing tools show up. I can also add new elements and change their transition effects. To do this click on the item in the Inline Editor and then click on the FX button in the ribbon as shown above.

MediaShout 6 lets users connect their computer to multiple external displays. At our church we put two projectors up on either side of our baptismal area both connected to the same video output on the computer. We also have a projector pointed at the back wall. MediaShout calls these the Main display (the ones on the front of the sanctuary) and the Stage display (ones that those on stage can see). You can show two different things on the displays with each Cue. For example, show the song lyrics with the beautiful background looping video for the audience to see, but only show the lyrics for the band or worship leaders with guitar chords. Put a picture or video on the main display for the audience to see while putting sermon notes for only the speaker to see on the stage display. To always show the same on both, check the setting in the Settings tab labelled “Stage Mirrors Main by default”.

Edit Stage Display Content

Change the Stage Display content by clicking on the Edit Stage button in the Inline Editor. Then add the text you want to show on the Stage Display.

Tabs on the Ribbon

Home-Tab-Settings-for-Each-Kind-of-element

The Home tab on the Ribbon handles most of the tasks a user needs while creating a Worship script. That’s where you insert elements and change those already in the Cue. As we saw above, the Home tab changes depending on what you’ve selected. Take a look at the screen shots above of the Ribbon. It shows the settings that appear when you select, text, images, liturgies or video.

Templates Ribbon Tab

Select the Templates tab on the Ribbon to change templates for the cues in a script. Templates control things like the font in a Lyrics Cue or the background for that Lyric template. You can create a template that shows all white text at 50 point size, bold using Times New Roman font. Give it a drop shadow and set it on a background of your choosing and then save it as a new template. You can even make it the default template for all lyrics. Do this for Bible text, regular text and liturgy items.

Advanced Ribbon Tab

Other tabs include the Advanced Tab (above) and the Settings Tab (2nd image below). On the Advanced Tab you can handle some of the more powerful features in MediaShout. For example, MediaShout 6 lets users display Tweets from Twitter. Change the Twitter settings on the Advanced Tab. Setup Cloud Sync features. This lets a user connect the program to their Dropbox account so they can create a presentation on one computer and then package up all of the Cues and media from a script and sync them. This tab also handles a loop of announcements and plays some audio files. That way I can setup a playlist of music to play while I loop some slides showing announcements before the worship service. On a Mac it will get music from iTunes if it's downloaded to your iTunes library.

MediaShout VJ Mode

Other Advanced features include Volunteer mode, which shows a simple interface to let beginning users work with. There's also a VJ mode for use when someone wants to play a bunch of videos. This opens a new window where you can point the program to a folder of multiple videos. Double click the videos to start playing them. It's a great way to have a music video night with your student ministry.

Settings Ribbon Tab

The Settings Tab lets users change how MediaShout works and looks. We won't give a detailed look at this tab. It handles display settings and what shows up in the Viewer section of MediaShout. You can also setup the Remote app which users can download from the iOS App Store . The button on the far left opens the full Settings dialog box where the user can control even more features and settings.

Awesome New MediaShout 6 Features

Some of the awesome new features in MediaShout 6 set it apart. We already covered Liturgies. Some churches call these Responsive Readings. When a leader reads some text and the congregation then reads a line of text in unison, that’s a Liturgy. You can use the included Liturgies or create your own.

The Inline Editor lets users edit Cues without opening a new box. It feels more like editing a page in a desktop publisher and saves time compared to previous versions.

MediaShout 6 Dark Theme

People who work in very dark areas can turn on a new dark theme in the Settings. Click on the General Settings button and choose the General tab. Then select the drop down box next to Color Scheme in the upper part of the screen. Choose either Light or Dark and then restart MediaShout. You can see this new Dark Theme above.

Windows vs Mac

Windows version MediaShout 6

MediaShout 6 now runs on both Windows and Mac. The two programs look similar and work generally the same way. Above you'll see a screen shot of the Windows version.

It’s clear that the Windows design scheme dominates. For example, a Mac user might expect integration with the built-in Mac features like adding images from Photos instead of just adding them from files on the computer’s hard drive. Mac users can add music from iTunes. Finally, the familiar Mac-style menu at the top of the screen only shows two very limited menus – a MediaShout 6 menu and a File menu. Most Mac programs put all of their tools and features in a complete menu system in addition to toolbar buttons.

MediaShout users can insert PowerPoint slideshows, but it doesn’t work with Keynote, the Mac presentation program that most Mac users prefer.

MediaShout Customer Service

I've used MediaShout for more than a decade. In the early days the customer support wasn't as good as it is now. MediaShout does a better job today. You can contact them seven days a week including Sunday morning from 9:00 a.m. Eastern Time till 1:00 p.m. Eastern Time.

I experienced  a severe stability issue on the Mac version of MediaShout 6. The company connected me with a customer support professional who showed me how to let them share my screen and he did some extensive troubleshooting for about 45 minutes before we found out that the problem was an incompatibility with Parallels Access, a utility that allows users to remotely control their computer. I also had an issue with SongSelect integration and he found out what the problem was and fixed that. They also plan to work on fixing these obscure bugs and I'm betting they'll figure out a fix.

Value and Recommendation

MediaShout 6 costs $399 for either the Windows or the Mac version. People upgrading from version 5 can get it for $169. These prices cover up to three installations on either Windows or on Mac. They offer options to install on both for people like me who work in both, but it will cost quite a bit more. I wish the $399 or $169 upgrade covered three installations on either platform. Users can pay extra and get unlimited installs on either platform for $899. There's also a free trial version  you can use for a limited time.

MediaShout 6 is a powerful worship presentation tool with some great features. I've covered most of them, but not all. Churches that don't own worship presentation software should seriously give MediaShout 6 a look. Download the free trial and watch the excellent video training to learn how to use the program. I included one below. You can then make a more informed decision.

Users of the old version should certainly upgrade. It's worth the sale price and you'll want to get it soon at this lower upgrade price.

confusing viewers setttings

This version of MediaShout isn't perfect. Here's a few minor things I'd like to see them change. First, when a user turns on the quad Viewers where they see four Viewer boxes on the right side of the screen, the four boxes don't match the placement of the four drop down boxes in the Settings. They should match. The top left drop down box on the Settings Tab controls the top left Viewer in the Viewer section. However, the top right drop down box controls the  bottom left Viewer. The bottom left drop down box controls the top right Viewer. That's confusing for the user.

Also, configuring the content on your Stage display that only those on the stage see is confusing. We talked about the feature above. I want to sometimes see exactly what's on the Main display and other times see something different on the Stage display. For example, if I'm showing a video clip in my sermon, I want that showing on the Main and Stage displays. But if I'm showing a picture, I'd love to show my sermon notes about that image on the Stage display while the audience only sees the picture on the Main display. It seems you can either mirror the Main display on every slide or on none of them. If it's possible, I couldn't figure it out.

MediaShout lets me add Text cues easily. Use the Insert Text button and then either type it in or paste it from elsewhere. Then add it to the list and Insert. However, I wish I could take Text Cues that I've added all at once and split them up. That would make creating a sermon presentation quicker. I could add all my main points and quotes. Then I could drag a Text Cue from the Pages area below the editor to the Script area on the left. You can't do this now, but I wish I could.

In earlier versions of MediaShout I could add pictures and videos the same way I could add Bible verses, Lyrics and Text. Now I can't do this as easily from inside the program. I can now drag from either Windows File Explorer or Mac Finder. Open the folder where your files are on the Mac or Window hard drive and drag them to the Script section. However, I'd like to have buttons for adding Graphics or Videos where the Insert buttons show up on the Home Ribbon tab.

Finally, the script thumbnails are too big compared to the older versions. I could see more of my presentation in version 5 and earlier. One way to make it better is to drag the divider between the Script section and the Inline Editor towards the left. This shrinks the Script thumbnails so you can see more on screen at once and gives you more room for the Inline Editor and Pages Area. In the Settings Ribbon there’s a check box labelled Script Compact View that turns the thumbnails into a list with a settings button it. That lets you see a lot more of your cues, but you lose the thumbnails.

Thanks for the review and info. I’m considering upgrading from 5 to 6 but I’m kind of annoyed at MediaShout to be honest. Whenever I try to use their forum my comments never show up, as others have also mentioned, and for years I’ve been dealing with a bug in MS 5 that displayes full scale images at the wrong aspect ratio (when height of image is greater than width), which is a simple thing to fix. MS 6 looks nice, but I don’t like that there is no built in file browser to easily drag videos or images over existing cues to change them. We have many hundreds of songs that we’ve used in worship over the years, so many times all I need to do is change the background. If I’m going to have to click on the cue or an insert button and search for the file every time,l or drag something in from an external program like explorer or finder, that would be substantially more time consuming that using the built in browser. I also liked the fast folders in MS 5 because we have so much content it really saves time to make the quick directory switches. The other thing is that I often decide to add or change an image or video on the fly during the service. Having to use an external application introduces greater probability of discontinuity on the main display…if Inaccidentally minimize the application or do something else by accident. All that being said it really does seem to have some nice aspects as well, love the idea of direct inline editing. Thanks again and great job on the review.

but I’m kind of annoyed at MediaShout to be honest Ya Think!? I am searching for another software package that will do everything MediaShout 5 will do but will not crash while I am editing cues. MS 6 will not work for me. It is OK but it seems like a downgrade. I have seven years invested in MS and I think that I am fairly proficient in working with the software. I do not have any musicians in our small rural church and therefore I use all of Lifeway accompaniment tracks with time triggers for each lyric verse, chorus, refrains, etc. Recording time triggers (correctly) for all lyrics is very time consuming and should be reliable. The lyric library of MS 5 will often not have the audio in the lyric that I have spent hours of editing the time triggers to perfectly match the song text. However; to its credit, the time triggers will still be in the lyric cues and I have a way (in Win 10) to search for the audio file and then drag it back to and save to the lyric cue providing that MS does not crash. MediaShout and Windows! If I knew then what I know now! OH WELL

Im done with media shout. Suddenly in the last month two seperate live performances that tested fine crashed. One was a simple mp3 accompaniment. 20 seconds in the sound disappears. Then We had a kids easter program. Easter! And the previously tested videos showed playing in the media scrubber but zero sound output. Had to jump to the media destination folder and play in windows. Been with them for years and have always had to hold my breath when we insert audi or video. Accessing discs for live play was a feature I abandoned years ago. Cant afford this unreliable performance.

I’m so sorry to hear about your Easter Day tech struggles. That’s not good. Thanks for your feedback and best of luck with your search for the next worship software. We do have reviews on ChurchTechToday of Proclaim, ProPresenter, and EasyWorship – review of EasyWorship 7 will publish shortly – stay tuned!

Mike I am feeling Mark’s pain. I am having some of the same issues and they are yet to be resolved. It is not looking like they will be after talking with 4 different techs at MediaShout. Even when you leave a review it is taken off there site, I guess they don’t want others to know the problems.

MediaShout is about to make me pull out whatever hair I have left. I have one of the most tricked out laptops you can get with dedicated video cards, 16 gigs ram, solid state drives and the whole nine yards. MS 6 is a crash fest. It eats developer apps for breakfast. Windows 10 upgrades create a new set of headaches every. single. time. This last go around I had to reinstall MS6. All it did was create memory management issues. It does the same thing on other laptops. I like the features of the program. When it works.

Hey Mark, Thanks for chiming in here. I’m sorry you’re encountering issues with MediaShout. I’ll ‘shout’ out to them on your behalf and see if they can help you get squared away and back up and running. God Bless, Lauren

[…] same kind of computers, they needed something that was both mac and pc compatible. As they scoured online reviews and compared the presentation software options, MediaShout 6 became the clear […]

I just downloaded the free trial and it keeps crashing on me. Can I get some help so I can try this? I assume if I uninstall it won’t let me try it for free with same email and phone number.

Jason, You can reach out to MediaShout via Twitter: http://twitter.com/mediashouthelp

They should respond pretty quickly. Let us know how your trial goes after you get the crashes fixed! Thanks for reading.

THere is no help if you do not have a really, really robust video card. I do not think this product is intended to be run on laptops. I’ve been working w/one of their tech guys on the same problem. I have two well-equipped laptops, neither of which can run MS 6 or better simply because their video cards won’t do all MS 6 requires of it.

We had upgraded fm Win 7 on a very slow netbook to a Win 10 laptop, fm MS 3.5 to MS 6.

Sorry — wish I could help.

Which is Better: ProPresenter vs MediaShout?

Want to get your hands on the best church presentation software out there? Showing their key features side-by-side, this church presentation software comparison will help you to decide which one is right for you.

Want to get your hands on the best church presentation software out there? Look no further, as we compare two of the most popular software options – ProPresenter vs MediaShout. Showing their key features side-by-side, this church presentation software comparison will help you to decide which one is right for you.

If you have already read our guide of The Best Church Presentation Software for 2021, it won’t come as a surprise to you that ProPresenter takes the crown in this comparison. With a soaring satisfaction score and unbeatable user-friendly features, we know that ProPresenter is the premium church presentation software you have been searching for.

ProPresenter

With a one-time payment cost of just $399 per house of worship, ProPresenter doesn’t bog you down with monthly costs. Also offering a rental scheme, where you can pay a small cost of $99 for a 30-day rental, you can get access just for specific events. Try for free for two weeks to see if it’s right for you, or you can simply opt for the free version. Although it doesn’t include presentation features, it does enable you to create and edit, meaning you can work from multiple sites!

Get the 30-day free trial, or gain full access to the MediaShout 7 software for an unlimited number of computers for $499. This offer is only available for Windows users, however, and you will have to purchase a MediaShout 6 option if you work with Apple products. Costing $299 for unlimited on Macs, you will have to sacrifice access to the new features that come with the latest version. If you’re looking to save on your software, opt for the single option, costing between $199 and $399 for one Mac or PC.

Organization

The new modernized interface that ProPresenter 7 offers makes organization a breeze. Streamlining your operations by displaying your library, media, and audio bins, preview, and the upcoming slides, this software provides you with ultimate control. Allowing you to create personalized libraries for your presentations means you can arrange playlists to fit your workflow, organizing in a way that works for you.

Some of the new features offered by the latest version, number 7, include new Key Controls, a new Presenter View, and the new Sermon Builder Wizard. Displaying everything you need with a clear and concise interface, this software offers simplicity at its core. Unfortunately, unlike ProPresenter, this software is not compatible for use with multiple screens, so it is better for smaller-sized churches.

Scrolling Text

No matter what you’re presenting, whether it's lyrics to a hymn or captions for an interview, scrolling text will draw your audience right in. With ProPresenter 7, you can even add the weather or a news channel to act as your live stream ticker, bringing a dynamic and captivating edge into your church environment. Up-down, left-right, this brilliant feature provides endless creative possibilities.

Also offering a timer or a clock feature as a plug-in, MediaShout can display similar things as ProPresenter on the big screen. While they do have a news ribbon feature that scrolls from right to left, it is on a much smaller scale than that offered by ProPresenter. You can adapt the speed of scrolling, but it is only really useful for simple text snippets, and not much else.

Two additional languages have been added with the release of ProPresenter 7. Bringing the total number of languages that the software is compatible with to 10, you can easily translate ProPresenter to Spanish, Portuguese, French, German, Korean, Norwegian, Czech, Simplified Chinese, and Russian! Plus, they have an easy-to-complete request form if your desired language is not currently listed.

Although they have plans in place to eventually add more languages to their program, MediaShout shockingly only offers access in English. You can request a specific language, but details on which languages are being prioritized, or when they will be released, are unavailable. Providing access to everyone is crucial, and MediaShout’s reach is unfortunately very limited at present.

Multiple Bible Translations

Show multiple bible translations side-by-side with the impressive new feature that comes with the latest version of ProPresenter. Simply select the number of text boxes needed for the number of translations, and show them all with ease. Not only is this a great way to highlight the differences between Bible translations, but it can also be translated into entirely different languages. If you’re a multi-lingual church, this is the solution you have been waiting for.

mediashout presentation software

Offering a Dual Bible function to present two different translations side-by-side, MediaShout has definitely got the right idea. It falls short of the ProPresenter feature, however, as it is limited to just two, and does not include multiple languages. While it is a great feature, it just doesn’t come close to that offered by ProPresenter 7.

Why We Choose ProPresenter

After careful consideration of the features offered by each church worship presentation software, we select ProPresenter as our winner. With  features that are versatile for use in your main sanctuary.

What about options for your Kids Ministry and other areas of the church? ProPresenter can be a bit of an overkill. Want to see how Playlister stacks up against these two options in other areas of your church? Read more about ProPresenter alternatives .

EasyWorship vs MediaShout: Software Comparison Guide

Renewed Vision Team

Churches and ministries looking for a more tailored approach to presentation software usually come across EasyWorship or MediaShout (or both) during their search. Both of these church presentation apps contain features and capabilities that make running visuals during a worship service much easier.

But the feature lists are long and you might not want to sit through 27 tutorial videos just to choose the right software for your church. To help you jump straight to the most important differentiators, we’ve put together this EasyWorship vs MediaShout comparison guide.

What Is EasyWorship?

mediashout presentation software

Just about everything you need to know about EasyWorship is right there in the name: it’s worship software designed to be easy, straightforward, and simple to use.

Just don’t mistake “easy” for “basic”: EasyWorship can do a lot more than free software or office-oriented solutions. The slide designer and presentation view are both well-built and customizable. In presentation mode, you can see live slides, preview what’s coming up, schedule events, and even pull in resources on the fly.

With a recent update, EasyWorship now supports up to three outputs, which is a big step up — especially now that so many churches are live-streaming.

Streaming integration and access to a wide range of content resources (though at a premium subscription price) add additional value here.

What Is MediaShout?

MediaShout logo

MediaShout is a longstanding and well-known church presentation software option. It’s been around for decades, and at one point is was the most popular presentation software purpose-built for houses of worship. MediaShout users gain access to numerous church-oriented capabilities that general presentation apps don’t offer, like integrated Scripture and song lyric imports.

Compared to apps like PowerPoint and Canva, MediaShout can do more on a technical level.

However, the program looks quite dated by 2020s standards. The user interface was great in 2002 or so, but it hasn’t made much progress since. MediaShout has lost market share over the last decade or so, at least in part because of the clunky, outdated interface and missing quality-of-life features. That said, MediaShout recently released MediaShout 7, a good start to righting the ship.

Language and OS Compatibility

mediashout presentation software

Both EasyWorship and MediaShout are pretty limited here: both apps are Windows-only, which can be a pretty big obstacle for some ministries that use (or want to be able to use when needed) Macs in their AV setup. They also both support only one language natively: English. While that might not be an issue for many reading this review, it’s still a notable limitation.

Compare that to a worship presentation solution like ProPresenter 7, and the difference is pretty stark. ProPresenter 7 is a cross-platform (Windows and macOS) application, with support for 10 languages natively, including English, Spanish, Korean, Russian, and Chinese (simplified).

On the remote app front, MediaShout has an iOS remote app (…that doesn’t work with version 7, somehow) but no Android app. EasyWorship has a remote app for both iOS and Android with no significant compatibility issues.

Churches put a lot of effort into building slides every week, and both apps are built to support this well. The interfaces can both accomplish most of the same things, so you’ll be able to create visually rich slides that incorporate audio and video. While both apps deliver better slide capabilities than standard presentation apps, you’ll encounter a few limitations or missing features, like data-driven or linked text boxes or rulers and guides in the slide designer.

The best way to see the differences in interface and capabilities here is to check out each brand’s sample imagery. What they put forward as their best work says plenty about what you’ll achieve with their products.

Alternate Views

Multiple or alternate views are vitally important for many ministries. A single presentation feed (and maybe a static presenter view a la PowerPoint) can display song lyrics, Bible passages, and sermon points in the sanctuary, but it can’t do anything further. You might want to do more, such as:

  • A customizable stage display (or multiple stage displays, like one for the musicians and one geared for the person at the pulpit)
  • A customized view for your livestream or internal video feed
  • A rotating announcement kiosk that’s still connected to your main presentation

The latest version of EasyWorship adds better support here, giving you three schedule layout options and three output options to match. Three is it, though: the system isn’t as flexible or robust as ProPresenter’s, but it’s a step in the right direction.

MediaShout 7 has a customizable Stage Display, giving you a maximum of two outputs in a single file. Better than Google Slides, but weaker than EasyWorship (and hardly comparable to ProPresenter).

Live Video and Streaming

mediashout presentation software

EasyWorship can integrate well with a live stream or broadcast configuration. It includes wireless NDI support and multicamera support, but it can also work in simpler setups (you can even use your smartphone camera). Support for sending alpha channel out to a video mixer is helpful in some setups, too.

MediaShout kind of punts here, partnering with a third-party vendor called Boxcast for streaming.

However, note one big limitation: neither app can actually intake or display live video. The best they can do is feed their presentation content out to a separate video mixer like an ATEM Mini Pro, meaning you’ll be stitching together your livestream content elsewhere.

If you’re thinking “it sure would be nice if I could do all of that in one place,” then we should talk— ProPresenter does exactly that.

Scripture, Media, Song Lyrics

mediashout presentation software

Both apps can quickly import scripture passages from popular Bible translations (though, oddly, MediaShout’s single seat license is limited to public domain translations like the KJV). They can integrate with CCLI SongSelect for easy and accurate song lyric importing. And they can pull in content from various media libraries, including premium media sources if you choose the premium package (or are subscribed to those separately).

Other than the single-seat version of MediaShout 7, the two applications are roughly equal here.

MediaShout offers several products, pricing tiers, and packages. The core MediaShout 7 presentation software can be purchased outright for $399 for a single PC, and a site license (unlimited computers) is just $100 more. There’s also a subscription version, MediaShout LE, which starts at $29 per month per computer ($179/year).

EasyWorship offers campus licenses rather than single seats: $15/month or $180/year gets the core EasyWorship experience, while $280/year adds in premium media and a few other premium features, like a color palette and an online media designer.

The Best Church Presentation Software on the Market: ProPresenter 7

ProPresenter in use at North Point

The truth is, EasyWorship vs MediaShout isn’t the right debate.

The two apps are similar and fairly competitive, but they fall short in several key ways.

The real question is ProPresenter vs MediaShout vs EasyWorship.

On virtually every point discussed today, ProPresenter stands head and shoulders above both MediaShout and EasyWorship when it comes to church presentation software . With ProPresenter 7, you get:

  • Better compatibility
  • More native language support
  • A far more advanced pro-grade slide editor
  • A more powerful seven-layer approach to building presentations
  • Unlimited output views (your hardware is the limiting factor, not your choice of software)
  • Robust live video support (run your entire live stream within ProPresenter and simplify your workflows)
  • More included Bible translations (and dual translation support)
  • And much more

Far more capability and better performance, at a single-seat license price that matches MediaShout!

Top rated mediashout alternatives, mediashout reviews & product details, mediashout overview.

MediaShout’s roots go back to the 1990s. While working for Josh McDowell and Acquire The Fire, the company’s four founders saw the need for a tool that would help run live worship presentations. The technology was changing and the ability to incorporate media into worship was becoming easier, while churches and other ministries were looking to move away from hymnals and overhead transparencies. Rather than buy an existing program from the entertainment industry, they decided to write their own worship software, which came to market in March of 2000. The concept was so new, the term Church Presentation Software hadn’t even been coined; these four literally invented the category. MediaShout quickly found a home among youth pastors. This was the kind of technology and media conduit they needed to make worship more relevant, as well as a way to engage and enlist members of their youth groups. As a result, the program became so successful that we couldn’t produce it fast enough. 20 years later, we are selling our seventh major release and tens of thousands of churches are using MediaShout to add another dimension to their worship. Our offices are located in Nashville, Tennessee, a thriving city that’s home to many faith-based businesses.

MediaShout is a versatile church presentation software, you can customize your workspace with just the tools you need.

Overall Review Sentiment for MediaShout Question

  • Report a Concern
  • Respond as MediaShout

This is a church presentation software first, not a presentation software that can be used for churches. This means they are dialed in on their persona and features are tailored to fit it. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Some of the features you are going to want require a fair amount of additional effort, and documentation is not crystal clear. I was able to get through it, but I think less tech savvy people (I work in software) might struggle. Point - make the ability to cast to OBS and the ability to show slides or lyrics easier! Also, give us two outputs in OBS so we can do a 2nd monitor for on-stage cues as well as lyrics in lower third on OBS. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Allowing us to get out of Google Slides and into a full presentation software. Also, to help solve the following requirements:

- Browse all slides while presenting (you can't do this in Google Slides; Powerpoint you can, but that has other limitations)

- Integration to CCLI

- Ability to share slides & lyrics on OBS streaming (though see dislikes for details)

- Ability to share different content to different screens (though see dislikes for details)

- Ability to build up a bank of worship songs to re-use each week

- Ability to share bible verses on the fly Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

We needed a platform to would let us integrate lyrics from our song collection and hymnal while allowing us to to have a very fluid unfolding of our programs. Media shout let's all do all these things and more. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

To run at full capacity you need a fairly descent computer. We are currently using it remotely due to the current situation and not all our operators are able to have it run smoothly on their systems even though they have the minimum requirements.

I also wish the UI was more customisable and some feature would but more handy instead of having to open new windows everytime. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Media shout ads more flexibility to our workflow. it is saving us a great deal of time by letting us create different templates for the diverse type of programs we are doing. We re involved in worship service, bible study and many different types of formations and trainings; We are able to plan every point from scratch right within Media shout. It even has a feature where it will build your sermon for you. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

I have been using MediaShout since v2. The improvements in technology over the years are kept up with as MediaShout continues to improve the software. Tech Support is very responsive, even to non-member subscribed users. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

I dislike an inconsistency with playback of some videos, even of the same file type. I can run an *.mp4 file just fine in one cue, but a different *.mp4 file just crashes the system. (As of this review, we are working to find the issue and find a resolution.) Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Highly recommended. Integration with CCLI reporting, SongSelect and the various Bible versions that are included. Top notch!! Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Before MediaShout, I would build slides in a presentation program by hand. MediaShout builds a library that is easily update-able. It is designed with the church's needs in mind. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

That it's not expensive to use while staying a good product. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

It's a little out dated at this point.. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

If you have a pc this is probably the best thing you're going to find. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

We're creating a smoother and more reliable service every week. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Love that I can pull in lyrics and song selections from CCLI. Adding in Powerpoint presentations is a breeze! Quite intuitive for the most part, I am mostly self taught. I did watch a couple of the instructional videos which were great. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Adding extra pages and verses to songs doesn't always work well. There's no option to add a new verse once the song has been inserted. There is no phone support unless you pay an additional fee. This is very frustrating as if there is an issue, it can only be addressed via email or facebook messenger. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

We use Media Shout to create presentations for our weekly church services. It is much easier to use and more streamlined than our prior product. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Not a subscription.

Many beneficial feature which enhance the worship service.

Can develop on one system and play on another. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Occasional difficulty figuring out how to make something work. This is mostly due to lack of knowledge/experience, but partially due to difficulty finding the proper documentation. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

I think it is the best choice. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Our worship service benefits greatly from the use of this product. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

How it integrates with many platforms, such as PowerPoint, media audio and video Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Sometimes its not as intuitive as it could be (myOpinion) Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

why have many programs running when it can be consolidated into one program Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Can you other platforms which integrate into this software Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Once you get familiar with operation of software it is fantastic. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Font sizing is limited. With MediaShout 4.5 you could size your font in increments of 1 size at a time. After switching over to MediaShout 6, I found it impossible to do this. It is set up to go in increments of 2 up to 28. 20, 22,24,. Example font size of 28 . It then goes to 36, 48, 72 Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Has given us a great opportunity to advance our church services. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Not much....it was somewhat affordable.... Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

We were a MediaShout customer for many years but finally have given up on this software. We tried many times to resolve issues and were patient with the support team but could not continue to deal with the problems and difficulties this program caused our church. MediaShout stops working and crashes multiple times during editing of the slides. Customer service was not good, never answered the phone even during the customer service hours and took a long time to call back. The tutorial videos were not helpful at all. The software does not have a user-friendly interface in general but is especially unusable to people who have no experience with the program.

MediaShout updates were sent out and caused the software to completely crash. We had to call customer service and were told we would have to completely reinstall the system with a new access code. The technician had to be involved to make sure we did not use up an extra licensing code when reinstalling. Each time the software crashed the MediaShout support team gave a different reason for the cause of it crashing. We were told the program was cloud-based, but it was so complicated and confusing to set up the cloud-based system we gave up and were not able to utilize that feature. Steep learning curve transitioning from MediaShout 5 to MediaShout 6. Opening the MediaShout program each day took a long time to load. MediaShout crashes when we try to add certain types of media into the presentation such as PowerPoint or images. Overall, MediaShout is not worth the time or money and we ended up switching to one of its competitors. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Our church does not recommend MediaShout to others. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

We were unable to solve any of the problems we had with MediaShout even after working with the support team many times. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

We use this program for our church to present slides and songs and all multimedia every single week and it works like a charm. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

It has a high learning curve that can be difficult for less tech-savy people to understand and takes time to learn. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Be prepared to spend time learning about the program before launching it. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Showing multimedia during presentations Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

I wish it had a better scripting language to automated processes Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Media presentations at Church Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

The Bible and Music databases. The ease of use. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Sometime the software freezes when trying to add a new song. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Make sure you buy a computer that is able to handle MediaShout. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

It creates beautiful media presentations for our congregation. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

I liked that I was able to see what slide was coming up next. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

I was not a fan of MediaShout. I used it a number of years ago at my church Fellowship of Christians. We had a hard time training new people how to use it and it seemed to take a long time to access slides. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

If you are going to use this product then you need to make sure your volunteers and employees get a thorough training. It can be a useful program but is not always user friendly. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Fellowship of Christians uses MediaShout as their way to show slides on Sunday mornings and any worship event. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

I like how it makes our services look. I like how you can find bible verses and song lyrics easily and add them to a production. I like how it plays videos and works with PowerPoint. I like how easy it is to add advertisement slides and make them scroll before a service. I can create slides as jpgs and easily insert them into a presentation. Then my ad looks similar to my bulletin ad. I like their customer service. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Not always easy to use. Settings can be hard especially if they get changed by accident. If you are working on a computer that is not hooked up to the projectors, sometimes what you create and what is seen are different. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Don't expect to purchase the software and start using it immediately. It takes a little time to learn it. Creating slides as jpgs in another program and importing them works much better than creating them in Media Shout. Works best with a server so that you can create your slides or backgrounds elsewhere and use them on the same computer. If you don't have a server you'll have to upload your created slides from one computer and download them to the one that will use media shout. Then point your presentation to those downloaded slides. This can be a little frustrating, but a server makes it all connect and takes this burden off. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Helps with service by showing upcoming events and ads before service that change automatically. Great for lyrics to songs so members can sing along. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Very easy to teach volunteers how to operate program on the fly. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Requires a lot of processing power in the computer that increases exponentially with each successive upgrade. The computer is never strong enough for what comes next. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Compare licensing model to other software programs. Other programs may be more popular, but may require a lot more training than Mediashout. Do your homework. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Graphic and video presentation in a church or production environment. Ease of use allows for professional delivery that is seamless to the viewing audience. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

MediaShout is so easy to learn. It is intuitive and versatile. I felt like a pro after just a few days using the program. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

The only dislike I have is the look of the interface. It could be a bit more clean. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Try this out. MediaShout is a great program for projecting during worship and even for teaching and preaching. It has tons of uses, works on multiple computers, and customer support is very helpful. I can't count the amount of times that they just solved the problem for me via remote access. One phone call and a few minutes later I was good to go. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

At our church we need to project the lyrics of our songs, MediaShout is perfect for that. All of our computers can run it, and they allow you put the program on multiple computers. That's awesome for a budget conscience church. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

It works and there was a time when MediaShout was a forerunner in using media backgrounds. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

It thinks differently than most presentation programs and feels a bit "Windows 95" aesthetic. I haven't used it for years, but I just checked the website for version 6 and it's still like that. It's like the difference between mac and windows. Mac: 1, Windows: 0 Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

ProPresenter is the best tool I've ever used for displaying lyrics, videos, pictures, and presentations for worship services. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Displaying lyrics for worship, as well as videos and pictures. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

This program was helpful in making words to contemporary worship songs available to all when singing coroporately. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

The program was not intuitive and many things had to be done manually, slide by slide when updating color etc. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

This program is a great step in the right direction if you are working toward bridging the gap between older and younger generations. This program hosts hymns and contemporary worship options. Additionally you can incorporate your own titles if your music ministry creates their own music. Excellent option, user friendly, just not as intuitive as I would like it to be (this may have changed in newer versions). Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Major song database used so members had access to a variety of worship options Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

While it may shy in comparison to a few alternatives (mostly ProPresenter), MediaShout has been a great resource for all our church’s multimedia use during services. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

The user interface and dashboard is a little less robust than that of ProPresenter and I have found it at times to be a little glitchy when running large scale productions (Intensive video or graphic use during service). Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

MediaShout is a great program for churches to use that have a Windows computer and are not doing tremendous amounts of video in their services. It is easy to learn and you can set up an order of service really quickly. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Simple, somewhat intuitive, easy for simple set-ups (lyrics, images, etc.) Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Clunky interface, unstable, looks just like it did back in version 5, hasn't kept up with its competitors Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

If you just need something simple, this might work for you. However, we have since moved on to ProPresenter and we couldn't be happier! Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Looking for a worship presentation software solution to help with services and events. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

The ease in which we can share our info. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

I haven't found anything yet that I dislike about this product. It's been so easy to use! Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Sharing our information, either the music or sermon notes has been a breeze with MediaShout! Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Having the words to music and scripture already preloaded is very convenient. It's nice to not have to type in every new piece. Linking to CCLI accounts makes projecting lyrics simple. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Software is not quite as updated as it could be. Could be more user friendly and modern, sleek and simple to use. Feels a little outdated even with the more updated versions. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Defini Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Projecting music lyrics, videos, scripture and announcements to our church congregation. Communication within the church is made simpler with a tool like this. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

I have not found anything I like yet about the software. I have REALLY tried to like this software since others have mentioned it being good for their church Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

It is clunky and non-intuitive. there is no help button (online help only). Even the demo presentation crashes while paging through. Does not support powerpoint as stated. Is not a good solution if your church is trying to convert from powerpoint to a more advanced interface. Have to pay extra for backgrounds/media/art. You have to buy a $1000 computer to go with the software (according to their recommendations), and then the program still doesn't work correctly. Online support is slow, and phone support is only available when no one is at church. We sank $1400 into a computer and this software, and now we are forced to go back to powerpoint just to accomplish anything. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

I would seriously consider EasyWorship or Powerpoint. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

There have been no benefits. We wasted $1400 where we could have just kept using powerpoint and our old computer. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

I love how easy it is to use MediaShout to create a service slideshow for the church I work for. There are numerous bible editions available, songs, etc. Moving items around is a breeze. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

It would be nice if you could add clipart while in the MediaShout program rather than having to create the whole slide outside of the program. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

I highly recommend MediaShout to any church who is looking to project their service. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

We use MediaShout to display the words to our church worship service. This helped us to get more people to sing along during congregation songs because the words are easy to see and in a better position. It also helped our senior members to see the entire service. Often time the bulletins we print are too small for them to read while keeping up with the service. We also save a TON of paper by showing the service on the screen rather than printing everything. We only print an outline now. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

I like the ability to create music files with specific song lyrics. The ability to customize slide shows by piecing different songs together that are stored in the larger database. Makes presentations a snap. I love being able to drop Godtube and youtube and bluefish videos directly into the que. I like the ability to create transitions and keep the slide show alive and fun. I like that the updated versions run in sync with each other. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Cursor is positioned wrong when deleting a page break in a Lyric cue.

Stage previewer does not work if no actual stage display is connected. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

We are able to easily create and edit lyrics for worship sets. It is easy to teach new tech people and volunteers how to use our system. This solves a problem with vital and needed manpower. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
