The word "teacher" in India refers to more than just a profession. With a teacher, there is an intense emotion. If we look at ancient India, we can see how essential gurus (teachers) were in influencing the views of their followers.
Role Of Teacher In Life
Make learning enjoyable: Along with educating, their primary responsibility is to get kids ready for a better future. Instead of presenting concepts in in-depth, technical lectures, they make their classes engaging and enjoyable.
Connecting to actual events: The children's closest friends are good teachers. By relating various subjects to actual events, they facilitate learning. Using real-world examples, they show how even the most complex subjects can be understood and how doing so would benefit the future.
Motivate Learners: Teachers help pupils develop since they frequently look to them for approval. Compliments like "Come on," "Good job," "Well done," and "Keep it up" go a long way in motivating children. These appropriate remarks have great value in their lives. They always inspire us to attain our greatest accomplishments in addition to teaching us. They support us, cheer us on, and boost our confidence whenever we fail so that we may keep trying until we achieve. They constantly show us the ideal course for our lives. They consistently go above and beyond to assist pupils.
Alter the course of your life: It is true what is claimed that "excellent instructors hold the future growth of a nation in their hands". The quality of the education we receive from our teachers determines who we become in life. Children's minds are given data and information to examine the scenario. The most critical skill we acquire from teachers is the ability to analyse what is essential. They fashion an exquisite statue out of an unformed stone. They increase our understanding and promote the proper transfer of knowledge from one generation to the next.
Monitor Progress & Set Performance Objectives: The best teachers always succeed in pointing out to their students how far they have come since the beginning. Establishing short-term goals, encouraging improvement, and maintaining self-evaluation keeps track of the kids' every move and is a confidence builder. Teachers support students by providing them with clear objectives that are doable. For pupils, they design challenging assignments that aid them in resolving problematic situations in life.
My Teachers’ Day Celebration
Every year, on the 5th of September, we celebrate Teacher's Day to commemorate the birth of Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, a renowned educator. This year, our school conducted an event for our teachers. The teacher's day activity began early morning from 7 am in the school assembly. The school captain gave a brief statement to introduce the event and discuss the significance of teachers and their role in building nations. To represent wisdom and peace, the ceremony was opened by lighting a candle in front of Maa Saraswati's statue . The first performance by the sixth-grade children began at precisely 9:00 a.m.
At the event of students dressing up as their favourite teachers for the day, I played the role of Pooja ma'am. She is very knowledgeable and kind. I hold all teachers in the highest regard. But Pooja ma'am is my favourite among all the teachers. I like her teaching style. She is very fun but strict at the same time.

The Teacher-Student Relationship: Learning from Eklavya’s Example
The teacher-student relationship is a dynamic and influential connection that plays a pivotal role in the educational journey of individuals. One of the most iconic examples from ancient Indian mythology that exemplifies the depth and complexity of this relationship is the tale of Eklavya and Dronacharya.
In the Mahabharata, Eklavya, a young and talented archer from a tribal community, aspired to learn archery from Dronacharya, a revered teacher and the royal guru of the Kauravas and Pandavas. However, Dronacharya, bound by his commitment to teach only royal princes, refused to accept Eklavya as his disciple.
Undeterred by this rejection, Eklavya, driven by his unwavering determination, decided to learn archery independently. He created a clay idol of Dronacharya in the forest and practiced relentlessly in front of it, considering the idol as his Guru. Eklavya’s dedication and perseverance transformed him into an extraordinary archer, mastering the art through self-discipline and sheer hard work.
This story illustrates several facets of the teacher-student relationship:
- Admiration and Aspiration: Eklavya admired Dronacharya as his role model and ideal teacher. His admiration for the guru was so profound that he sought to emulate Dronacharya’s teachings through self-directed learning despite being denied formal instruction.
- Self-Motivation and Dedication: Eklavya’s commitment to mastering archery showcases the power of self-motivation and dedication in the learning process. His unwavering focus and disciplined practice underscore the importance of personal drive in the pursuit of knowledge and skill.
- Teacher’s Impact Beyond Formal Instruction: Although Dronacharya did not directly mentor Eklavya, his influence extended beyond the classroom. Eklavya considered Dronacharya his guru, even from a distance, emphasizing a teacher’s profound impact on a student’s life beyond formal instruction.
- Unconventional Learning Paths: Eklavya’s story challenges the conventional notion of formal education and apprenticeship. It highlights that true learning can happen through unconventional paths driven by passion, commitment, and a genuine thirst for knowledge.
While the Eklavya-Dronacharya narrative may be a myth, its enduring appeal lies in its reflection of timeless truths about the teacher-student relationship. It reminds us that the essence of learning goes beyond the physical presence of a teacher; it resides in the student’s dedication, the teacher’s influence, and the shared pursuit of knowledge.
The Challenges Faced by Teachers
1. Workload and Time Constraints:
Teachers often find themselves grappling with extensive workloads and time constraints. The responsibilities of planning lessons, creating assessments, and grading assignments can be overwhelming. In addition, teachers often participate in professional development activities to stay current on educational trends and methodologies. Balancing these tasks while ensuring quality instruction and individualized student attention is challenging.
2. Limited Resources and Funding:
Many educators face the obstacle of working in environments with limited resources and inadequate funding. Insufficient classroom materials, outdated textbooks, and a lack of technology can impede the delivery of effective lessons. Teachers often invest their personal time and money to supplement these deficiencies, showcasing their dedication to providing a quality education despite the challenges posed by resource constraints.
3. Diverse Learning Needs:
A diverse range of student abilities, learning styles, and cultural backgrounds characterizes the modern classroom. Meeting the individual needs of each student requires considerable effort and adaptability. Teachers must employ varied instructional strategies and differentiate their approach to cater to the diverse learning profiles within their classrooms. Striking this balance is no small feat and demands a keen understanding of each student’s strengths and challenges.
4. Evolving Educational Policies:
Teachers must navigate the ever-changing landscape of educational policies and standards. Frequent revisions to curricula, standardized testing, and evaluation criteria necessitate continuous adaptation. Staying compliant with these policies while fostering an engaging and enriching learning environment poses an ongoing challenge for educators. The ability to seamlessly integrate new requirements without compromising the quality of education is a testament to a teacher’s resilience.
5. Student Behavioral Issues:
Managing classroom dynamics and addressing behavioral issues among students is another challenge faced by teachers. Educators tackle diverse behavioral challenges in an era where societal changes often manifest within the classroom. Teachers play an important role in fostering a positive learning environment. This requires both pedagogical expertise and strong interpersonal skills, including addressing bullying, promoting inclusivity, and managing conflicts.
6. Technological Integration:
While technology has become an integral part of the modern world, integrating it into the classroom effectively is challenging for many teachers. Navigating digital platforms, ensuring equitable access to technology, and leveraging educational apps require a level of technological proficiency that some educators may find daunting. Teachers face an ongoing challenge to balance traditional teaching methods with technology to enhance learning experiences in the digital age.
