Syncing Assignments and Grades from Google Classroom

Once you have a valid sync configuration prepared for a class, you'll be able to see the "sync" button on the GradeSheet tab. Clicking on the "sync" button will initiate a sync with Google Classroom.
After a few moments, the grade sheet will automatically refresh and all synced assignments will appear. You'll also see the small "check mark" icon next to the "sync" button briefly turn green; this indicates that the sync is complete.
It's important to note that not all assignments will be synced to Gradelink, and not all assignment data will be carried over from Google Classroom. This is a result of several important differences between Gradelink and Google Classroom that affect which assignments will or won't be synced and how they'll appear in Gradelink, so let's go over some of them one at a time in order to better understand how the sync process works.
The most important difference between Gradelink and Google Classroom is that Google Classroom doesn't have Terms. For more information on Terms in Gradelink, please click here .
Many schools divide their school year into several smaller terms such as Quarters or Trimesters. As a result, when they set up classes in Gradelink, there are often multiple instances of the same class, one for each term in each school year. For example, a typical school might have "Math Quarter 1", "Math Quarter 2", and so on. Google Classroom, however, does not have terms and classes don't even need to have a specific start and end date.
This is relevant to Gradelink's integration with Google Classroom for two reasons:
- First, because in Gradelink "Due Date" is a mandatory field; this means that if an assignment does not have a due date in Google Classroom, it will not be included in the sync .
- Second, because when you initiate a sync in Gradelink, only assignments that have a due date that falls between the Start Date and End Date of the active term will be synced. Teachers can quickly and easily see what the Start and End Date for the active term is by hovering over the icon that appears next to the "From Google Class" column header on the Sync Settings page:
Even if an assignment has a due date and that due date falls within the corresponding term, not all assignment data will be synced into Gradelink .
While most fields in Gradelink have a corresponding field in Google Classroom, this isn't always the case; additionally, not every field in Google Classroom has a corresponding field in Gradelink. The table below describes different assignment attributes in Gradelink and in Google Classroom as well as whether or not they are included in the sync process. It also indicates instances where there is an attribute that only appears in Gradelink or only appears in Google Classroom.
Note 1: While you can leave the grade for a particular student blank, in Gradelink there is not currently a way to only assign an assignment to specific students.
Note 2: While Google Classroom does not have a "Date Assigned" field, Google does store the date the assignment was created.
Note 3: While "Grade Categories" are similar to Gradelink's "Assignment Types", they are not included in the current version of the Google Classroom integration.
Assignments that are synced into Gradelink from Google Classroom behave slightly differently from assignments that were created in Gradelink.
For example, assignments synced from Google Classroom appear with a light green background on the GradeSheet, making it easier for you to identify which assignments were and were not part of the sync.
Additionally, the Google Classroom logo will appear on the Assignment Information page as another visual reminder.
Additionally, on the Assignment Types page, you'll see an indicator for any assignment types that are currently in-use as part of a Google Classroom sync configuration.
Note: Support for syncing to multiple assignment types within a class is planned for release Fall 2020.

Copied content in Classroom
Teachers have the ability to copy assignments in Classroom. Doing so also copies the add-on attachments that are contained within the assignments. This saves teachers a lot of time when creating assignments for multiple sections or for new sections each school year.
When teachers copy an assignment in Classroom, the copied assignment has different courseId , itemId , and attachmentId query parameters compared to the original assignment.
How to copy content
The following sections describe how teachers can copy assignments in Classroom.
Copy a course
When copying a course, all of the assignments in the course are copied to the new course as drafts. The teacher may then publish the assignments to students enrolled in the new course. A student may be enrolled in the original course and the copied course. This can happen if a student is held back or retaking a class.

Publish an assignment to multiple courses
A teacher can publish an assignment to more than one course through the assignment creation page. it's possible that a student is enrolled in both courses.

Reuse a post
A teacher can reuse a post by navigating to the Classwork tab and clicking Create . From the drop-down, they can click Reuse post to select a class and then select the assignment to reuse.

Expected behavior
When a course or assignment is copied, the same student may be assigned the same add-on attachment across different courses. The recommended behavior for add-ons in the copied assignment should be to:
- Ensure that teachers can still preview the attachment in the teacherViewUri . If your add-on requires licensing and the teacher has not appropriately set up a copied course, display a user-friendly message informing the teacher what the appropriate course of action is. At the very least, teachers must not see an error page in the iframe.
- Ensure that students see a new add-on attachment in the studentViewUri . For activity-type attachments , this means that the attachment is incomplete and the student shouldn't be able to see any of their responses from another course. If your add-on doesn't allow the same student to complete an attachment twice, display a user-friendly message describing the scenario or a path to resolve the issue. For content-type attachments , this means displaying the content for the student to see in the studentViewUri . At the very least, students must not see an error page in the iframe.
- Ensure that teachers see the student submission from the copied assignment in the studentWorkReviewUri . The teacher shouldn't be able to see a student's submission for the attachment from another course. At the very least, teachers must not see an error page in the iframe.
Teacher View iframe
When a teacher launches the teacherViewUri , the attachmentId is sent as a query parameter in addition to courseId , itemId , itemType , and either login_hint or hd . The attachmentId can be used to display the correct attachment in the iframe.
If you don't have a record of the query parameters on the teacherViewUri , you can use the CopyHistory object in the AddOnAttachment resource to identify the original assignment. Then, you can display the correct attachment in the teacherViewUri .
Student View iframe
When a student launches the studentViewUri , the attachmentId is sent as a query parameter in addition to courseId , itemId , itemType , and either login_hint or hd . In order to render the studentViewUri when an assignment or course is copied, use two parameters:
- attachmentId , which can be retrieved from the request URL.
- submissionId , which can be retrieved by calling the appropriate courseWork.getAddOnContext , courseWorkMaterials.getAddOnContext or announcements.getAddOnContext method based on the itemType and reading the StudentContext object.
The attachmentId is a unique identifier for the attachment. The submissionId , however, is not guaranteed to be unique. Therefore, a copied or reused assignment has a different attachmentId , but the submissionId may remain the same. When the student launches the studentViewUri , you can display the attachment by identifying the student work based on a composite key of the attachmentId and submissionId .
If the studentViewUri is rendered based on the submissionId alone, you risk showing the student their submission from another course because the submissionId is not guaranteed to be unique.
As mentioned earlier, if you can't identify the attachmentId , you can use the CopyHistory object in the AddOnAttachment resource to identify the original assignment and its query parameters.
Student Work Review iframe
When the teacher launches the studentWorkReviewUri , the attachmentId and the submissionId are sent as query parameters in addition to the courseId and itemId and itemType . You can use these query parameters to retrieve the AddOnAttachment resource or CopyHistory resource if you can't identify the attachmentId provided. This lets you to search for the student work using a composite key of the attachmentId and submissionId .

Attaching an Assignment on a Computer
- If you see an image with your name on it, that means your instructor has assigned a specific document for you to complete. Click the link and complete the assignment as indicated, and then skip to Step 9.
- If the file is on your computer, select File , choose the file, and then click Add . For example, if you wrote a paper in Microsoft Word or scanned your homework as a PDF , you'd use this option.
- If the file is in your Google Drive , select that option, choose your file, and then click Add .
- If you need to attach a link because your file is on the web, select Link , enter the location, and then click Add .
- Click X if you want to remove an attached assignment.
Submitting a Quiz Assignment on a Computer
- If this quiz was the only work for the assignment, you'll see "Turned In" as the status.
Attaching an Assignment on a Phone or Tablet
- If you're uploading a photo of an assignment, tap Pick photo , select the image (or tap Use camera to take a new one), and then tap Add . Repeat this if you need to upload multiple photos.
- If the assignment is another type of file saved to your phone or tablet, such as a document, tap File , select the file, and tap Add .
- If the file is saved to your Google Drive, tap Drive , select the file, and then tap Add .
- If you need to provide a link to your file, tap Link , enter the link, and then tap Add .
- If you created a new document, presentation, or spreadsheet, enter your assignment information and tap the checkmark when you're finished to save your work.
- If you selected PDF , you'll have a blank file to work with. Write or paste your assignment, draw notes with your finger, or use any other feature requested by your instructor. Tap Save when you are finished.

5 Ways to Transfer Google Drive to Another Account

Transferring Google Drive becomes necessary for various reasons. One common reason is the change of ownership or job transition, change of email address, consolidating your accounts into a single account, etc. Whatever the reason, this guide will help you smoothly transition and share data with another account.
1. Use the Share Feature to Migrate Google Drive to Another Account
Sharing files and folders between Google Drive accounts is straightforward. However, it doesn’t physically move the data; it merely allows access. Here’s how to do it:
Step 1 : Go to Google Drive and log in with your credentials.

Step 2 : Now, select the files and folders you want to migrate to another Google Drive account and right-click it.
Step 3 : From the drop-down menu, select the Share button and choose the Share option.
Step 4 : In the pop-up, enter your new account email address as a collaborator.
Note : Alternatively, share the link directly with the concerned user by clicking the Copy links button at the bottom.
Step 5 : On the next screen, click the arrow icon next to permissions and select Editor from the drop-down menu.
Step 6 : Finally, click Send.
Once the sharing setup is complete, all you need to do is open a new tab or browser, log in from your second account, and you will find these files placed under ‘Shared with me’ of your account.

2. Download and Re-Upload
This method might be the most commonly used method to transfer Google Drive files to another account, especially among the unaware. Follow the below-mentioned steps.
Step 1 : Go to Google Drive and login to the account from which you want to transfer all the files.
Step 2 : You can create a new folder by right-clicking the blank space and selecting New folder. Let’s call it Migration and click Create.
Note : To download files one at a time, skip step 2 and go straight to step 5, where the files will be downloaded one at a time.
Step 3 : Move all the files and folders in the drive into the newly created (Migration) folder.
Step 4 : Once moved, right-click on the Migration folder and select Download.
Now, Google will take some time to zip the Migration folder and automatically download the file to your computer. Once downloaded, continue with the below steps.
Step 5 : Now, navigate to the downloaded Migration zip file and unzip it.
Step 6 : Now, open Google Drive in another browser, and log in to a new account where you want to share the files.
Step 7 : Once logged in, click the + New button on the sidebar.
Note : Alternatively, you can right-click the blank space and choose the Upload folder from the menu.
Step 8 : From the drop-down menu, choose the Folder upload option.
Step 9 : Choose the file from the destination folder and click Upload.

3. Transfer Ownership to Transfer Entire Google Drive
Transferring ownership of files and folders allows you to move data from one account to another without downloading and re-uploading. Moreover, it gives complete control of files and folders to another account without dealing with permissions. Follow the below steps.
Note : The steps can’t be illustrated with a reference image since we don’t have access to the Admin Console. However, if you have access, follow the instructions.
Step 1 : Open Google Admin Console from your preferred browser on your Windows or Mac computer and log in with the credentials.
Go to Google Admin Console
Step 2 : Go to Apps > navigate to Google Workspace > Drive and Docs.
Step 3 : Under ‘Drive and Docs,’ navigate to Transfer ownership.
Step 4 : The drop-down menu will allow you to enter the email address for the account you want to transfer from and the email address for the account you want to transfer to, and finally, click Transfer files.
That’s it. Upon completion of the transfer, you will receive an email notification. Depending on the size of your drive, this may take some time. Once completed, you can delete the user from Google Workspace.

4. Use Google Takeout
If you don’t already know, Google Takeout lets you download an archive of your Google data, including Google Drive files, which can then be imported into another account. Follow the instructions below.
Step 1: Go to the Google Takeout page and log in with the account from which you wish to transfer data.

Step 2 : First, click the deselect all option and select Drive. Scroll to the bottom and select the Next step button.
Step 3 : In the ‘Choose file type, frequency & destination’ section, choose how you would like to receive the file under the Delivery method.
Step 4 : Now, select the File type and File size and click Create export.
Depending on the size of the files and folders, Google will take some time to extract and download the archive onto your local storage and unzip the files. Finally, upload the files and folders to the desired Google Drive account.
5. Using Third-Party Tools
Third-party freemium tools like Multcloud are a simple and efficient way to transfer data between Google Drive accounts. However, the free version has limitations on the size of the data you can transfer.
These third-party tools provide a user-friendly interface, support various cloud storage providers, and offer the ability to manage complex transfers, including maintaining folder structures and permissions, making them a powerful tool for this task.
FAQs on Transferring Google Drive to Another Account
No, personal account users do not get a native feature to transfer Google Drive from one account to another.
Neither the current owner nor the new owner’s storage allocation is directly affected when they transfer ownership of files and folders in Google Drive. A Google Drive storage quota is primarily related to the Google Account, not the ownership of files and folders.

How to make a Google classroom
Despite its power, creating a Google classroom is surprisingly straightforward. It can be completed in just 3 steps.
- Go to classroom.google.com
- Click on the add button, which looks like a plus (+) sign, and click Create class .
- Fill in a name for the class and click Create .
Quick tip: The same screen where you can fill in a class name is also where you can include a section, room number, and class subject.
How to use Google Classroom
Once your Google Classroom is created, you now need to add content to it and invite students.
Adding content to your Classroom
Under the Classwork tab, click Create . In this menu, you have the ability to create an assignment, quiz, question, or add material or topics, which are like section headings.
Google Classroom will then provide two blank fields and prompt you to enter a title and assignment instructions for students. You can create assignments from Google's suite of programs, including Google Docs, Google Slides , and Google Sheets , or you can attach links, documents, or YouTube videos to the assignment.
You can also share photos with students using Google Photos .
After you create the assignment, you can set a due date, assign it to specific students or all students, and even post a rubric.
Inviting students or teachers to your Classroom
Navigate to the People tab and click on the Invite teachers or Invite students tab as applicable. Then enter their email address(es) and click Invite .
Alternatively, you can have students join your class by using the Class code .
- Navigate to classroom.google.com
- Click on the add button, which looks like a plus (+) sign, and click Join class .
- Input the class code you received from your teacher and click on the blue Join button in the top right corner of the window.
Quick tip : Students can also join a Classroom through an invite link. Click on the three vertical dots to the right of the Class code field and click Copy class invite link .
How to unenroll from a Google Classroom
If you wish to leave or otherwise unenroll from a Google Classroom, that is accomplished in a quick two-step process.
- Click on the three vertical dots beside your class's name.
- Click Unenroll and then Unenroll in the confirmation window that appears.
How to archive a Google Classroom
As a teacher, you have the ability to archive a Google Classroom when you no longer need it, for example, when the semester is over.
- Click on the three vertical dots beside your classroom's name.
- Click Archive and then Archive again in the confirmation window that appears.
Quick tip : Classrooms must be archived first prior to deletion. If you want to permanently delete a classroom, archive it and then go to Archived classes , click the three dots, and click Delete and then Delete again in the confirmation window that appears.
