Build On, Gear Up, and Test for Mastery of Common Core Subjects
With Turtle Diary, we’ve done the hard work for you. Common Core Standards used in their classrooms will be reinforced with our games, lessons, and quizzes.
All of the fun we offer on our site is aligned with the newer vision of mathematics and other subjects. By sticking with Turtle Diary, you can let us handle the hard work of explaining Common Core. Sometimes this method may seem foreign to you if you’ve learned with “old math.” In fact, you might just learn along with your student!
Students have the necessary skills to be able to compete in a competitive world with an increased focus on STEM. Cognitive demand reigns higher than rote learning, and students are able to quickly visualize and manipulate numbers. They can “see” the inner workings of the problems, especially in math, and learn to mentally work the numbers.
Turtle Diary helps students to learn and practice these concepts, especially if they aren’t quite grasping it in the classroom. You’ll be amazed at how quickly your student picks up the new concepts. Just remember that they’ve never learned it the “old” way. The Common Core way is THE way for their learning journey.

The more they learn, the better their classroom experience will be because the information will click with repeated exposure.
Even though there may seem to be an overwhelming amount of games, the idea is to give students the choice. All of the games in a grade level reinforce the same necessary concepts, but just in a different way. In 2009, Justice Sandra Day O’Connor founded iCivics to reimagine civic education. Since its inception, her vision has been “to cultivate a new generation of students for thoughtful and active citizenship. Civic knowledge is a prerequisite for civic participation. Yet for decades, civic education had largely disappeared from school curricula and the repercussions are undeniable.”
Taking a game-based approach, iCivics transforms abstract concepts into problems that every child will face in real life.
If it’s used in your child’s class, they’ll have a class code to sign in. If it isn’t, they can still make their own account to play engaging and educational games that will help make them better citizens!

27 Classroom Games Students Will Want To Play Again and Again
Practice important skills … and have fun!
The classroom games you choose to play with students may become their favorite memories. (I still remember playing Heads Up, Seven Up in Mrs. Merar’s first grade class!) Classroom games are a great way to build collaboration and community and practice important skills. Plus, they’re fun!
Benefits of Classroom Games
Classroom games capture what kids are naturally good at—playing—to improve other skills. Games support kids’ executive functioning skills , things like planning, organization, turn-taking, and problem-solving are all skills that students need to be successful. Playing games, from Memory to Monopoly, gives kids experience in focus and concentration, working memory, and flexibility in safe spaces where they can grow and stretch these skills. Plus, they’re a fun way to learn more about how your students think and work together.
In addition to all the classroom games listed below, check out our lists of most loved educational board games and best board games for 6-to-12-year-olds .
Here are our favorite classroom games that you can use to teach, reteach, and engage students.
Games for Practicing Academic Skills
Classroom games can help students practice things that they need to know—like multiplication tables, vocabulary words, and science facts. They’re great ways to do a quick review or practice for a quiz.
Math (or Fact) Baseball
Divide the class into two teams. One team is “at bat” and scores runs by answering questions that are worth one, two, or three bases. You “pitch” the questions using flash cards. If the at-bat team answers correctly, they move around the baseball field and rack up runs. If the at-bat team does not answer correctly, the defending team can respond correctly to earn an out. Once the at-bat team has three outs, they switch.
You can also put students into pairs and have them play a partner version.
Why we love it: This game is great for upper elementary students who are able to follow the game and will love the strategy of earning runs.
Beach Ball Toss
Write questions on the sides of a plastic beach ball. You can write questions about a story (plot, theme, setting, characters, structure), about math (write numbers 1 through 6 on the beach ball and students have to select a math problem based on the number they choose), or simply silly questions that students can answer. As students catch the ball, they answer the question. When they’ve answered, they throw the ball to the next player. If you’re working with material that may be new for some kids, you can give each kid one “pass” and they can share the problem-solving with another student.
Why we love it: It’s flexible and works with students’ eye-hand coordination.

Create a list of topics that students can visualize (think: science concepts, vocabulary words). Students work either in two teams for the entire class or in small groups that are divided into two. One student selects a card and has to draw an image that the other team uses to guess the word. The rest of the group guesses the term that’s being drawn. Add a timer for an added challenge. Provide additional differentiation by allowing students to provide one, two, or more letters in the word as well.
Why we love it: Kids who have strengths in drawing and thinking outside the box can really shine.
Learn more: Differentiation Daily
There’s the Simon Says you know from the playground and the Simon Says classroom game. In this Simon Says, tell students to do something that lets them show off what they’ve learned or practices a skill. So you might say, Simon Says spell “conundrum.” Or Simon Says solve this equation. Play either as a whole class with you as Simon or in small groups with cards of prompts that students can use when they take turns being Simon.
Why we love it: In addition to practicing skills, students also practice listening and impulse control.
20 Questions
Prepare cards with related words or topics. Group students into teams of two to four students. One at a time, students choose a card and the others have to try to guess what the card is by asking questions that can only be answered with a yes or no. Keep track of how many questions are asked, because you’re only allowed 20 questions to get to the answer. Have students put aside the cards they didn’t get for review.
Why we love it: Students practice working memory as they add new information to what they already know.
Also, Guess in 10 is a great 20 Questions–style game played around various topics, including animals, countries, and cities.
Buy it: Guess in 10 at Amazon
Memory is a game that students can do with any content—vocabulary words paired with their definitions, chemistry terms paired with images that depict them, or text structures paired with graphic organizers. First, have students create card pairs. Shuffle the cards and put them on the table. Take turns flipping cards over and finding the matching pairs.
Why we love it: Memory is so versatile you can use this game with anything from procedures to vocabulary to history facts.
Buy it: Blank Memory Cards at Amazon
In charades, students choose a card and act out the information on the card. For a unit on weather, you may have the words cloud , tornado , or hurricane for example. Scaffold this game with three rounds. In the first round, students can explain the topics using a few words. Then, in the second round, they can only use one word to describe what they are acting out. And in the third round, they have to be completely silent, using only their bodies to act out each word.
Why we love it: This game gets students up and moving around and thinking creatively about how to show what they know.

Put students in the hot seat to review the plot points of a story, practice answering questions, or review for a science test. First, choose vocabulary to review. Then, select a student to sit in the hot seat. The other students ask questions about the topic or information. The student in the hot seat must answer as quickly as possible. If their answer is correct, they stay in the hot seat. If they get a wrong answer, they can pass the seat to someone else. (You can take the pressure out of this game, which can make some students nervous, by removing the timed aspect.)
Why we love it: Hot Seat is a great way to get students to practice information they need to have right at the tip of their tongue.
Scattergories
Scattergories can be played for academics or for fun. It also helps students improve their creative thinking. You’ll need a list of at least 10 categories—mix serious topics with silly ones. Then, select a letter of the alphabet. Have students brainstorm words to go with each category that starts with that letter. So, if the categories you have are Weather, Bees, and Favorite Places, and the letter is H, students might write: hurricane, hive, Hawaii. Give a set amount of time for students to complete their own brainstorm, then share out. Students can rack up points for the number of categories that they complete. And sharing out helps them connect their brainstorming with everyone else’s.
Why we love it: The boundaries that kids have to work in when playing Scattergories is ideal for inspiring creativity.
Get printable Scattergories sheets on Pinterest.
Fix It Relay Race
Divide the class into teams of four to six students, and prepare sentences that each have an error—it could be a factual error for content classes or grammar or spelling mistakes for language classes. Arrange students in a line, with students standing a few feet apart. The first student in each team must correct one mistake in the sentence they are given. Then, they pass the card to the next teammate. The next student corrects another mistake. This continues until each team member has seen the card and they think all the errors are corrected. Then they run the card to the front to complete the relay.
Why we love it: Teams work together to complete each task.

This is another classic game that can be adapted to any academic content. Each student gets a card that is taped to their back or their forehead. The card has a name of a person you’re studying or a topic on it. Then, the students circulate and ask questions of other people to try to figure out who or what is taped to them.
Why we love it: This game is easily differentiated by providing students with personalities that you know they are familiar with, and by providing them with questions to ask or a checklist of personalities that they can be thinking about as they figure out who everyone is.
Word Scramble
Each student or group has a word. The goal is to pull as many words out of the original word as possible within the time limit.
Why we love it: Word Scramble encourages flexibility, and students may be surprised at what they see in each game.
Stickyball Bingo
Create a bingo board on your whiteboard with the words that you want students to work with or the math problems you want them to do. Then, have students throw a sticky ball at the board to select their game.
Why we love it: When their aim is poor, students may have to answer questions that push them out of their comfort zone.
Musical Chairs
Prepare a list of discussion questions or prompts. Students choose a card, then walk around the room while music plays. When the music stops, they find a partner and work on the questions they see on the card. You can prepare cards with math or science problems, questions from social studies, getting-to-know-you questions, or silly questions. Changing the type of questions that students are working with keeps this game fresh.
Why we love it: Musical chairs really gets students up and moving, and if you remove the loss of a chair each time, all students can stay in the game.
Check out these school-appropriate songs kids love .
Flashcard Duel
Students each have a set of flash cards and use them to “duel.” In pairs, students show each other a flash card one at a time. If they answer the card right, they get to keep the card. If they don’t, their partner keeps the card.
Why we love it: It’s fast-paced and easy for students to pick up and play during a few minutes of downtime.
Classroom Games for Communication
Games that require students to talk and listen to each other are great ways to encourage communication.
Yes, No, Stand Up
Have a list of sentences prepared. When you read a sentence, students stand if their response is yes and stay seated if it’s no.
Why we love it: Students practice listening skills and inhibition by standing or not in response to your questions.
Blind Square
Use a long rope and blindfolds. Have students stand in groups of four, then put the blindfolds on and hold the rope between them so it creates a square. They have to work together to put the rope down on the floor in front of them.
Why we love it: This game is great for middle schoolers to learn to work together.
Odd One Out
Prepare this game with a set of words or phrases written on slips of paper. Have students work in pairs or small groups to categorize the words or phrases as they relate to each other. Students have completed the game when they find the odd one out. So, students may have a group of four people from the Revolutionary War but only three who were presidents, so the one who is not a president is the odd one out.
Why we love it: Odd One Out requires students to use critical thinking and working memory as they come to each answer.
Can You Hear Me Now?
This is a fun warm-up or cool-down for the day. It’s also a great classroom game to play if you’re teaching virtually. Play as a class or in groups. Each student takes a turn describing an item for the others to draw one step at a time. For example, if the object were “cat,” the description might be: Draw a circle. Draw two triangles on top of the circle. And so on until a cat is drawn. It’ll surprise students how their directions are interpreted, and how hard it is to get people to follow their directions.
Why we love it: This is a humorous way to reinforce that students need to be clear in their directions and listen to yours.
Classroom Games for Collaboration and Team Building
Games that require teamwork are ideal for helping kids practice collaboration in short bursts and around a common, if silly, goal.
Minute To Win It
Challenge your class to compete in tasks that can take under a minute. You could:
- Speed-stack paper cups.
- Roll a coin between fork tongs.
- Transfer pom-poms with chopsticks.
- Build a tower out of marshmallows and toothpicks.
- Pass a balloon from one person to another without using your hands.
- Put together a puzzle.
Why we love it: It’s a quick way to engage students and shift students into a positive frame of mind.

Over the Electric Fence
Put two chairs in a row, and tell students that they are connected by a wire that is 3 feet high. Even better, string a rope 3 feet high. Students have to imagine that this is an electric fence and if they touch it they are dead. They’ll help everyone get over the fence and work together to do so. Make it even more challenging by telling students that they have to hold hands while moving everyone from one side of the fence to the other.
Why we love it: Students will have to slow down and figure out exactly how to solve the problem.
Create a square in your classroom using tape. Then, place plastic cups or cones around the inside of the square. This area is the minefield. Break students into pairs. One student is blindfolded and the other leads them. The students have to cross the minefield without touching or knocking down the plastic cups. The non-blindfolded student gives directions and the blindfolded student must follow them to cross the minefield without blowing up a “mine” or knocking over a cone.
Why we love it: Students will get out of their comfort level while playing this game.
Start with general everyday scenes (eating dinner, brushing teeth). Have two people act out a scene while everyone else watches. After a time, stop the scene and have someone swap out for a new player. Then, they have to change how the scene is being done. They could, for example, turn eating dinner into taking care of a pet. Once students are familiar with the game, make it more challenging with prompts from the book you’re reading or history scenarios (e.g., Washington crossing the Delaware turns into the French Revolution).
Why we love it: This game gives older students the opportunity to work with a variety of people and get creative connecting scene to scene.

Classroom Games for Fun
Sometimes you need classroom games that simply let students have fun and blow off steam!
Freeze Dance
This is a great brain break. Put on music and dance (challenge kids to a Floss-off or the Macarena to get everyone moving). Then, pause the music and any student who unfreezes before the music starts again is out.
Why we love it: You’ll see some students come out of their shells once the music starts.
Heads Up, Seven Up
Why we love it: This is a classroom game we remember from our elementary school years, and now we’re passing it along!
Tic-Tac-Toe
Use a version of tic-tac-toe during the dreaded indoor recess or as a brain break.
Tic-tac-toe with Hula-Hoops:
Human Tic-Tac-Toe:
Why we love it: Whichever version you choose, tic-tac-toe is a quick game that’s always a winner.
Place a number of objects (up to 20) on a table (or post on a slide with 20 words or pictures) and have students take one minute to try to memorize as many as they can. Then, cover the objects or hide the slide and have students write down as many as they can remember. Play this game once a week or so and see how students improve their memory strategies.
Why we love it: Students will sharpen their focus and memory skills trying to remember as many objects as possible.

Print the images and laminate them for students to circle Whaledo with dry-erase markers or simply project the images on the board. After students find Whaledo, ask them what other interesting details they discovered. Download Whaledo and the corresponding instructional guide today!

2. Trivia Challenge
There is a reason games like Jeopardy and Around the World are still popular decades later. Everyone loves the opportunity to show what they know. All you need is a slide deck with questions from your curriculum. Additionally, try the Art Trivia Take-Away Lesson and Game Guide in FLEX Curriculum for an activity where students reflect on art concepts and art history.
Here are three tips to keep your students on their A-game:
- Allow students to work in teams to keep it low-pressure.
- Include bonus questions of silly personal trivia to make it more fun!
- Add in challenges to get students moving. For example, Race to assemble a color wheel from found objects in the classroom!
3. Picture Puzzle
Puzzles are a relaxing way to review prior learning. Print pictures of the artworks your students learned about this year. Cut them into pieces considering appropriate sizes and shapes for your students’ levels. Make it a race to not only assemble the picture puzzle but also identify the artist, artwork title, and big ideas students recall from the lesson.
4. Mystery Drawing
Students are often mentally exhausted when they complete testing, portfolio submissions, and final exams. Many students will find comfort in directed drawings or other guided practice activities. Keep things simple but introduce a little bit of intrigue!
Here are three ways to keep students guessing the entire time:
- Guide students through an activity step-by-step without telling them what the end result will be.
- Facilitate a drawing upside-down and don’t tell students to flip their papers right-side up until the end.
- Try an exquisite corpse drawing and watch the delight when students unfold their papers.
5. Art Room Scavenger Hunt
A scavenger hunt is fun at any age. To make a scavenger hunt more educational, give students clues that pose a problem and challenge them to find the correct tool. For example, instead of telling students to find a brayer, a clue might read, “ I want to make a print. I have a printing plate, a piece of paper, a tube of ink, and an ink plate. What else do I need? ” This approach requires students to think through the process. You can also challenge your students to find examples of artworks that show a particular mood or have a specific subject matter, or search their portfolio for a project that demonstrates a certain technique.
6. Quick Draw
Use individual dry-erase boards, take turns in front of the class at the main board, or use scrap paper. Give students a drawing prompt with a list of criteria and watch them race to sketch it all. Ensure students demonstrate craftsmanship by including Elements and Principles as criteria. For example, a prompt could be, “ Draw a person using geometric shapes and hatched lines. “
This can be a quick five-minute game or you can extend it by adding multiple rounds. Additionally, turn it into a tournament or a team relay to keep the fun going. Another alternative is to put drawing prompts at different stations around the room to get students moving.
7. Virtual Escape Room
Identify key concepts by looking at objectives, assessments, and vocabulary lists from the year. Use this information to generate questions you want students to answer. Add the questions to a Google Form and use the response validation tool to let students advance only once they’ve completed a question or task correctly. Include riddles and hidden codes to keep students on their toes!
8. Custom Board Games
Let your students take the lead by designing their own board games , either in pairs or small groups. Creating a game requires students to ideate, problem-solve, draw, sculpt, write, and present ideas. Depending on your schedule and requirements, creating a game can take students anywhere from a week to a month. As a culminating activity, host a Game Day and allow students to play one another’s games to give constructive feedback. Hopefully, they’ll remember their favorite art teacher when their games become a hit outside of the classroom!
9. Art on Trial
This game will motivate your students to examine and think critically about art. It will push students to get beyond the default responses like, “ It looks cool ” or “ I like the colors. ” Put a famous work of art up on the board and announce the work stands accused of being awful. Divide the class into three groups. One group will serve as the prosecution. One group will be the defense team, and the third group has jury duty. Allow a period of discovery for the prosecution and defense teams to discuss the evidence for their sides. Then, allow each side to present their case and give one minute for a closing statement. Finally, the jury will deliberate. Each juror will share the point they found most persuasive as they vote for either the prosecution or the defense.
10. Art Heist Challenge
You may recall hearing about this game on Art Ed Radio . The premise of the game is simple: Your nemesis, Dr. Meaniebadguy, stole some of the greatest artworks from museums around the world! Students must figure out which works he stole and recover them. Print pictures of a variety of artworks along with clues describing the pieces. Set up an obstacle course between the students and the artworks and hide the clues along the way. For instance, you can use yarn to make a maze of “lasers.” Students must avoid touching the “lasers” to prevent the alarm system from sounding. Try neon yarn and black lights to create a special effect! Students love this game which engages them both mentally and physically.
11. Fact or Fake
Share odd and interesting bits of trivia about an artist or artwork. In teams, challenge students to spot which is fact and which is fake. Once the team decides, they write fact or fake on a dry-erase board and hold it up. Provide points to the teams who write the correct response and keep score.
Transform the end of the school year from a time of restlessness and boredom to joyful artistic engagement. Turn looking at and reviewing art into a magical experience by searching for Whaledo. Bring in trivia to challenge your students through collaboration and friendly competition. Incorporate the element of mystery with an escape room, quick draw activity, or art heist challenge. All of these games are great ways to keep students invested in your class, reviewing content from the year, and making art right up until the last bell.

Scholarly Activities
Med-peds student interest group (mpsig).
We collaborate on everything from teaching to community outreach to local advocacy efforts. In the first half of the year, the students are introduced to the Med-Peds program. It is a great opportunity for students to meet the residents and learn more about what makes Med-Peds so special! Students are able to get involved in advocacy projects in the community through different events such as the Back-to-School Expo and the Shen Science night. At those events, both students and residents educate kids and their parents on different health topics such as healthy eating habits and first aid skills. As a resident, this is also an opportunity to work on your skills with communicating with the public on topics and activities you come up with.
Preparing Medical Students
During the second half of the year, the Med-Peds residents are able to refine their teaching skills by preparing a lecture series for the second-year med students that prepares them for their clinical years. Students are introduced to the art of the history and physical exam on adults vs. children, how to develop and explore different differential diagnoses, and the skills to use on the wards. Their learning is enhanced with hands-on experience through real world cases and valuable tools as students prepare to become practicing clinicians. It is a fun experience for both the residents and the students involved!

Powderpuff games give girls a chance to play football, but some wrestle with sexist undertones

While signing up for the annual spring powderpuff football game at Wilsonville High School, sophomore Zoey Carlson thought back to her experience playing as a freshman.
She said she felt some of the male football players tapped to teach the girls how to play were demeaning, but she still enjoyed playing with friends and didn’t want to miss out on this year’s game.
“It’s a fun activity for girls where they get to play a sport they don’t normally get to play,” she said of the powderpuff game, a flag football competition for girls who don’t participate in the sport. Members of the football team serve as coaches for the girls.
Powderpuff games played annually at many high schools across the U.S., can introduce young women to football, which is a sport becoming increasingly open to female participation. But while many say powderpuff games are enjoyable, some have taken note of their sexist undertones, which can make powderpuff football uninviting and discouraging.
One controversial part of the tradition, which first gained popularity in the 1970s, is the name itself. “Powderpuff” is a direct reference to the makeup powder that girls apply to their faces.
Ingrid Mosey, an educator at Wilsonville High School, advocated changing the name powderpuff when she attended Canby’s Ackerman Middle School.
“I was getting to that age where I was very aware of women’s issues,” Mosey remembers. “I immediately reacted to the name because it just delegitimized the experience of football for girls.”
To her, the name almost felt like a mockery of the idea that women could even play football.
“I brought it up, that I thought it was a sexist name, and there were a lot of debates and I remember feeling super unpopular because I was the only person that felt that way,” she said.
Carlson and her friends enjoyed playing in Wilsonville’s powderpuff game last year, but she said that the treatment from the male football players coaching them took a lot of the fun out of it.
“They were mansplaining everything,” she said.
“I wouldn’t necessarily put the term ‘sexist’ on powderpuff,” Carlson said. “I will say I think that the boy coaches who are teaching the girls how to play take the authority that they are given and use it to demean girls.”
Powderpuff participants like Carlson enjoy playing the game and the games are popular. But the game can be uninviting to girls who have heard negative things about the coaching.
Wilsonville head football coach Adam Guenther referees the powderpuff games at Wilsonville. He thinks powderpuff is exciting.
“People look forward to the games,” he said.
Guenther is not present at powderpuff practices and said he had not previously been aware of any issues with the way the football players coach. Any poor treatment of the female players should not be tolerated or accepted, he said.
“It doesn’t matter if it is a student teaching it or a coach teaching it, it should not be that way,” Guenther said.
Guenther has also coached girls on his football teams and said there is potential for more girls to get involved in the sport, whether through a flag football league or more girls playing on tackle football teams. Some schools have started female rugby clubs, he said.
“If there are enough people that want to get involved in a women’s league, I think that’s great,” he said.
Carlson said she isn’t sure she would like to play football regularly, but she supports the creation of female teams.
“I do know there are women’s leagues out there and I am totally on board for that if there was a league at the high school level created,” Carlson said.
There are active women’s football teams in Oregon, like the Oregon Ravens, which is an adult women’s football team. However, there are none at the high school level. Some girls instead play on the boys’ teams.
At Ida B. Wells, eight girls played on the junior varsity team this past fall, the most girls on any high school team in Oregon. Girls participation in tackle football has increased 10.4% since 2019, according to data made available by the Oregon School Activities Association.
Zorina Johnson was the first girl in the current cohort at Ida B. Wells to join the team. Johnson was inspired to play football because of her brother. In eighth grade, he took her to a summer football practice, which was open to all students.
“I thought I might as well try it because when else in my life am I going to play football?” she said.
She later held girls’ practices to get more female players to try out.
“The boys are super welcoming and we are so lucky to have them. The coaching staff is super welcoming to the girls as well,” Johnson said.
Wells also has a powderpuff game every year at which the girls play flag football and the boys cheer. Johnson thinks it’s a good way for girls to experience the sport for the first time.
“I definitely think we can reframe powderpuff and make it a thing to empower girls,” Johnson said.
Opportunities for women to play football are expanding. The Oregon School Activities Association will be looking at potentially adding girls flag football as an emerging activity, notes from recent meetings show. The OSAA also currently has boys’ volleyball listed as an emerging activity, giving organizers the opportunity to show how many boys in Oregon want to compete in the sport that has been open only to girls since 1974.
In recent years, women soccer players have become kickers on college football teams, including at Division I colleges such as Vanderbilt and Jackson State.
Johnson, the Ida B. Wells football player, thinks more girls would play if they knew it was an option for them.
“It’s incredible the growth I’ve seen from last year to this year,” Johnson said. “But I can’t imagine how many girls I wasn’t able to reach who were never given the chance or never introduced the proper way and welcomed.”

Former Oregon Ducks quarterback Bo Nix joined legendary NFL quarterback Tom Brady and rapper, producer and entrepreneur Jay Z to discuss sports and business.
Michael Rubin, the billionaire founder and CEO of Fanatics, shared photos on Sunday of Brady and Jay Z sharing breakfast with NFL rookies including Nix, No. 1-overall NFL Draft pick Caleb Williams, No. 2-overall selection Jayden Daniels, quarterback Drake Maye, tight end Brock Bowers and wide receiver Malik Nabers.
"Breakfast with Jay and Tom > $500k but seriously awesome morning with Tom Brady and Jay Z and out Fanatics rookies discussing sports and business!" wrote Rubin. "Tommy and Jay thank you so much for the invaluable advice and knowledge you shared – this was such an incredible opportunity for these rooks before they take their first snap."
"Big things ahead for this group – can’t wait to watch you all crush it on and off the field!"
On Friday, the same group of NFL rookies attended an official jersey reveal event sponsored by the NFL Players Association and Fanatics in Los Angeles. It's an annual four-day event designed to introduce rookies to potential business partners.
Rubin is known for his ability to unite the sports, business and music industries. His summer “white party” in the Hamptons has an A-list that includes Brady, Jay Z, Travis Scott, Beyonce, James Harden, Leonardo Di Caprio and others.
Hopes are high for Nix in his rookie season under Broncos coach Sean Payton.
Oregon wide receiver Tez Johnson is confident in his adopted brother Nix and Payton, predicting they can win a Super Bowl as early as this season.
“Whatever team Bo goes to, they're going to have success,” Johnson told Oregon Sports Illustrated’s Bri Amaranthus. “That's no doubt. He's the best guy in the NFL. The guy is unbelievable.”
Johnson spoke with Nix about his transition to the league after wrapping up NFL rookie minicamp . It was the first chance for Nix to get on the field in Denver with his teammates and coaches.
“He’s loving it,” Johnson told Amaranthus . “He's tired, I can see it in his face. It’s normal. I just feel like him being there is a great situation. He's been through it enough, and all he knows is football.”
The Broncos selected Nix with the No. 12 overall pick. It's the first time ever coach Payton drafted a quarterback in the first two rounds of the draft in his career.
The 2023 Heisman Trophy finalist is fresh off his best season yet. The 23-year-old broke the NCAA single-season record for completion percentage in 2023 at 77.45, completing a whopping 364 of 470 passes. The most experienced quarterback from the 2024 draft, Nix's 61 career starts broke the NCAA record for most all-time by a FBS quarterback.
Instruction from Brady and Jay Z , two of the most successful people in their respective fields, certainly helps prepare Nix as his professional journey begins in Denver.

At EA we believe authentic representation opens the games and experiences we create to more people, helping us to fulfill our mission to inspire the world to play. We aim to create games, stories, worlds and characters that authentically represent the communities we serve so that our players can see themselves reflected in the games they love.
Our work to build games that are incredibly inclusive continues–and we amplify this work through dedicated partnerships where we are able to mentor, attract and support underrepresented communities.
This past April, in honor of this commitment, we celebrated the second annual EA Berklee Day, providing scholarships, mentorship opportunities, and industry connections to promising women and non-cisgender students at Berklee College of Music who will one day shape the sounds and music of the games we play, watch, create and connect in together.
Supporting the next gen of women music composers
At the EA Berklee Day celebrations, a panel of acclaimed composers, including Stephanie Economou ( Assassin's Creed: Dawn of Ragnarok ), Natalie Holt ( Loki ), Kathryn Bostic ( Women of the Movement ), Emilie Levienaise-Farrouch ( Living ), and Nainita Desai ( Tales of Kenzera: Zau ) shared their insights and expertise on working in the entertainment industry. The event concluded with a Q&A section with the students.
Desai , an Emmy award-winning and internationally-renowned composer, most recently worked on the EA Originals Tales of Kenzera: Zau , now available on PC, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch, and PlayStation 5. This single-player, story-rich Metroidvania game was shaped by Creative Director and Hollywood actor Abubakar Salim’s ( House of the Dragon, Napoleon ) own experience with grief, discovering how love gives us the courage to press on after devastating loss. The complexity of its themes, paired with its imaginative and rich world, were key in helping Desai craft the beautiful compositions players can enjoy throughout the experience.
The panel was moderated by Steve Schnur, worldwide executive and president at EA Music and creator and curator of EA Berklee Day. They were introduced by Sean McMahon, chair of the college’s Screen Scoring Department. At the panel’s conclusion, all composers offered advice to students. Bostic spoke to the importance of authenticity as an artist, saying, “Your voice is always changing—the constant is you.”
EA Berklee Day also offered an opportunity for EA to present two scholarships to students, Carol Gao and Rachel “Ray” McFarlane.
Both students received $15,000 of educational financial support and professional mentorship opportunities with a team of world-class composers at EA. Through a semester-long mentorship, they will learn how to take their compositional and orchestration skills and apply them to their future careers.
“Since I was a kid, all the composers in the classical canon are male, so the thought of representation never even crossed my mind because I never really saw women composers,” says Gao. “Having an event like this, where not only are we bringing in a panel of the most talented, most accomplished women composers to talk about their journey, but also having younger talent like Ray and me, and to be able to show the world that women–we have a place in this industry."
Gao, a native of Toronto, Canada, is double majoring in game and interactive media scoring and electronic production and design at Berklee. She is a pianist and member of the leadership board of Berklee's Video Game Music Club. After graduation, she will move to Los Angeles for an internship with Sparks and Shadows, Inc. While in LA, she hopes to build her career as a media composer and secure an in-house position at a video game company or production house, in addition to freelance work. Gao’s other passions include session playing and teaching piano, composition, and music theory.
McFarlane, also a native of Canada, is double majoring in game and interactive media scoring and film scoring at Berklee. She is currently a member of the Composer Diversity Collective and an intern at Yo-Yo Ma’s Silk Road Project. She currently works with Orchestral Tools, Eastwest Sounds, and Spitfire Audio as a social media influencer to promote positive inclusion within the video game scoring community. After graduation, McFarlane hopes to continue elevating her skills by attending a master’s program at either the University of Southern California or New York University.
"This scholarship means so much to me. It has provided me with the resources and the mentorship to continue following my dream," says McFarlane.
Building a more inclusive and equitable future
This collaboration between EA and Berklee College of Music began in February 2023 and has since provided three scholarships to deserving students and conducted two celebration events connecting recipients with industry leaders.
With an unwavering commitment to inclusivity, EA recognizes the immense talent and potential that exists within every individual. By fostering a culture of empowerment and providing platforms for underrepresented voices to flourish, EA not only enriches its own creative landscape but also paves the way for a more equitable and inclusive industry as a whole.
Join us as we help usher in the next generation of world-class talent in our industry.
