Fedoskino Lacquer Boxes come from a small town 25 km. north of Moscow and the oldest existing school of lacquer painting, Fedoskino. During the 18th century, Fedoskino painters had made their mark on the world of icon painting. Because of the religious themes of their work and government restrictions, they turned to painting lacquer boxes. Depicting scenes of everyday life and work, beautiful landscapes, and portraits is what defines Fedoskino Lacquer Boxes, unlike the other schools of lacquer box painting of folk art and fairytales. The best choice generally depends on the size and type of your collection, as well as the level of organization and display you're looking for. Closed storage options like boxes, cases and roll-ups are typically better suited for fine jewelry, especially if they're lined with velvet or felt to protect from scratches. Meanwhile, open storage options like stands, trees and hangers can be better suited to everyday jewelry and costume pieces. They also help prevent tangling.

✔️ Size: When choosing a size, think about where you'll be keeping your jewelry box or organizer and how much space you have. "The location needs to be in a place that makes the most sense for your bedroom and where you get dressed," said Phillip. Make sure to double-check the measurements before purchasing any jewelry box or organizer.

"For example, a smaller box for the 'good stuff,' a box for the everyday, a box for the party items," he said. "You can buy a solution that appropriately fits each of these needs and store them in a proper place. Not all of your jewelry needs to be front and center everyday."

You can improve your organizational method further by organizing by type. "You want to try to keep similar items together, [like] two different sets of pearl earrings," said Phillip. "[Or] if you only wear a certain pair of earrings with a certain necklace, then maybe they should be grouped together." It may also help to organize items based on how frequently you wear them (i.e. statement earrings in the back for special occasions and your go-to gold hoops on the top for easy access).

We can all identify with seeing screens too dim to make out in sunlight, especially through sunglasses.

There have already been several reports of updates to the iPhone 16 range, such as a new strategy for its new-generation processors , more advanced camera lenses , a new thermal design to prevent overheating , improved battery life , a new microphone to improve Siri, an extra button , designed for shooting video and an improved main camera sensor . So, the suggestion that the display is about to become much brighter is another exciting promise. Let’s see if it’s fulfilled.

May 12 update. The new design of the next iPhone won’t be limited to a much brighter display, though that’s certainly a key improvement. It’s thought that the design of the cameras is about to change, as well. That makes sense, as it’s a key upgrade element.

But while the new iPad Pro has dropped the ultra wide camera entirely, it looks like the iPhone 16 Pro will see the ultra wide will see a pixel increase from 12 megapixels to 48 megapixels.

A new report from 9to5Mac comments that multiple rumors all point in this direction, to deliver an ultra wide camera that perform better, especially in low-light environments and possible improvements shooting Spatial Video.

The report also claims that the 5x optical zoom telephoto lens on the iPhone 15 Pro Max could come to both the iPhone 16 Pro Max and also the smaller iPhone 16 Pro.

Other design improvements camera-wise could include a new coating for the lenses which would minimize internal reflections to improve images. Finally, there could be an all-new main camera sensor, likely at the same 48-megapixel resolution as now, but using stacked sensor tech which, as the report says, “allows the photo diodes themselves–the bit which actually captures the light–to be significantly larger for the same overall pixel size.

May 13 update. And another leak hints at something all-new for the iPhone. It could be part of iOS 18, so it’s just possible it may be available to current iPhones as well, but for sure it will perform best on this fall’s new handsets.

A new report by 9to5Mac highlights the fact that OpenAI has just held a spring event, with new work on show. There was an app for the Mac, but also, “a new flagship model of ChatGPT. This new model, GPT-4o, arrives just in time for a rumored deep integration into iOS 18 at WWDC.”

The new model is reported to offer much faster responses, especially when the user has chosen Voice Mode. As the report says, “It carries deeper knowledge and understanding of any images you share; it also will expand access of some previously paid-only features to the broadest group of users: free ones.”

If this is right, then there’s a powerful AI experience on its way for Apple users, and many expect a full-on Apple and Open AI partnership to be central to WWDC in June.

The whole thing is fascinating because Apple, we know, is obsessive about privacy. It will undoubtedly focus as much AI magic on what can be performed on-device, as this is the most secure way to do things, but to avoid being left behind in the generative AI race, it may need to employ some AI features which require internet access. That may be less secure, but it’ll certainly be more powerful. And that is what rival companies are doing.

Still, it’ll be fascinating to see how Apple positions this, especially if it needs to turn to third parties like OpenAI instead of controlling everything inhouse.
