Here are some points to consider before you sit down to craft your words of appreciation.
- Take a moment to reflect on your gratitude and appreciation so you are in touch with these feelings as you write.
- Think about what the recipient would most like to hear — what would be the most meaningful.
- Put your message into your own words so it sounds sincere and heartfelt .
- Try to mention specifics rather than just offering sweeping words of thanks.
- If you decide to include a quote, find one that supports what you've said in your own words. Don't use the quote alone to communicate your gratitude.
- Acknowledge even the smallest acts of kindness and effort on your behalf. Don't allow small gifts to go unnoticed.
No matter how you write your words of thanks, remember that the one who receives it will have moment of joy in their day because of you. Just knowing that you will put a smile on their face is enough to inspire you to write the perfect message.
I hope you found the quotes and messages in this list that provide just the words you need to express your feelings .

If nothing else, here's hoping these messages of appreciation will inspire you to savor all of the good things and people in your life.
Rather than dwelling on negativity, problems, or lack, allow the blessings in your life to occupy your thoughts more often. And express your gratitude to those around you more often.

January 12, 2024
Recognizing employees’ hard work and contributions is key to fostering a supportive and productive workplace. Studies show that employee recognition, whether big or small, has a significant impact on employee morale, job satisfaction, and more.
Yet, despite these significant benefits, research reveals that a large majority of organizations (83%) are not recognizing their employees frequently. Likewise, Zippia reports that 29% of employees haven’t received recognition for good work in over a year. These stats highlight a clear need for increased and consistent employee appreciation in the workplace.
From holiday greetings to the team, to individual messages celebrating specific achievements, or even a quick note to uplift an employee, a few words of appreciation can be highly impactful on employee engagement and productivity.
Read on for 50 meaningful employee appreciation message examples, 10 motivational quotes to include in your messages, and key insights on how to effectively express gratitude to your staff.
Understanding Employee Appreciation and Recognition
Why is it important to show appreciation to employees? Simply put, employee appreciation and recognition are all about acknowledging the hard work and dedication employees put into their roles and organization daily – and employees need recognition to thrive in the workplace.
In fact, studies show that employee recognition and appreciation have a significant impact on engagement, trust, and retention rates:
- 66% of highly recognized employees agree that they trust their everyday team members ( Gallup ).
- Employees who are recognized are 6x more likely to stay at their jobs than those who aren’t ( Zippia ).
- Employee recognition increases employee engagement, productivity, and performance by 14% ( Deloitte ).
When employees feel that their contributions are valued by their company, they are more likely to be content and fully engaged in their work, reinforcing their sense of purpose within the organization. This leads to a workforce that is both productive and engaged, which sets the organization up for success. Ultimately, a recognized and engaged staff translates to increased productivity, creating a win-win scenario for everyone involved.
How to Write a Good Employee Appreciation Message
Writing a good employee appreciation message seems like a simple task, however it can be quite challenging. Sometimes, it can be difficult to find the right words, and other times, the tone may not feel quite right. Here are some key pointers for creating an impactful employee appreciation message:
- Sincere: Start by clearly stating the purpose of your message – to thank the employee for their hard work and dedication.
- Specific: Be specific about what you are thanking them for, whether it’s completing a challenging project, consistently meeting deadlines, or contributing positively to the team dynamic.
- Personalized: You can personalize your message by mentioning qualities or contributions that are unique to the individual. This level of detail shows that you are paying attention to and value their specific role in the company.
Remember, appreciation messages do not always need to be formal. A casual note or a heartfelt conversation can be just as meaningful. The key is to convey genuine gratitude in a way that aligns with your company culture and your relationship with the employee.

- Don’t make it too long – Remember you are not writing a story. You are writing a speech to simply say thank you to someone.
- Say what you need to say – Just like the guideline above, do not make it too long but say what you need to say. A simple thank you may be enough but you should also add some reasons as to why you are showing gratitude.
- Practice your speech – The one thing to remember is not to bring the copy of your speech. You may use cue cards or be familiarized with what you wrote. Avoid having to bring the whole copy of your speech in front of the stage.
- Avoid saying vulgar words – Avoid saying vulgar or bad words in your speech. Be careful not to say something bad about the person you are speaking and thanking for.
How long is a thank you speech?
A thank you speech is usually a page long. This may depend on the one making the speech but it rarely goes to two pages long. You can write a paragraph or two as long as you don’t go over a page. You are simply saying thank you to the person or people whom you are showing gratitude to.
Do I need to mention the names of the people I wish to thank?
If you know their names, it is better to write them down. But in case you do not know and simply wish to thank all your teachers in general, you may simply put it to the teachers and your message.
Am I allowed to bring the copy of my speech in front?
It is highly advisable that you are familiar with your speech than to bring the whole copy in front. Not only is it not formal, it can distract you from saying what you really want to say. Be familiar with your speech. Use some keywords and key terms that go with it. Glance once in a while at your cue cards but avoid reading from them. You must always keep eye contact with your audience.
Why is a thank you speech so important?
A thank you speech is a way to show your appreciation towards someone who has done a good job. It is a way to show how thankful you are for the deeds they have done. It is also a way to prove how grateful you are for the opportunities they have shared with you. Your message can be a simple thank you or get creative with what you wish to tell them.
Do I need to write a thank you speech for each teacher I want to say thanks to?
No. If you wish to write one thank you speech for all the teachers you want to say thanks too, you may do so. Simply by writing their names, give each one of them a paragraph where you are going to write how much you appreciate their efforts and how you appreciate them in general. But if you wish to write a different set of speeches for your teachers, you may do so as well. Except it may take some time and tend to get longer. The best advice is to write one speech and their names and your messages for them.
There you have it. Simple guidelines on what to write in a thank you speech for your teachers. You need not have to write a whole novel or a short story type of speech. A simple thank you may be enough but to use a speech to thank them is better.
Teachers do not often get the appreciation they deserve but with the simple speech to say thank you for their efforts, their jobs and how you are grateful with what they are doing is enough for them to continue with their jobs. Writing the speech, remember the simple guidelines. Get creative as well. A good thank you speech comes from the heart.
