Microsoft Teams Premium aims to make it easier to miss meetings

The new version of Microsoft's collaboration platform brings a plethora of new features as well as upgrades to its base version too

Screenshot of Teams Premium in action with the intelligent recap feature

Microsoft has unveiled Teams Premium today as well as boosting the base version of Microsoft Teams with a catalogue of new features.

Microsoft Teams Premium is built on Microsoft Teams and aims to make every meeting, from one-on-ones to large meetings, to virtual appointments to webinars more personalised, intelligent, and secure, the company said.

One of the new features is something the company calls intelligent recap, which uses AI to make meetings that users attend, or miss, more productive. It suggests action items and owners, so follow-ups aren’t missed, with Microsoft likening it to having a virtual assistant attending every meeting.

Intelligent recap creates smarter recordings after the meeting which will automatically generate chapters and insights, including when a user’s name was mentioned, when a screen was shared, or when a user left a meeting early to help them discover important moments to catch up on. It’s expected to begin rolling out in the first half of 2023.

The tech giant has also beefed up its search, with suggested speakers that are personalised to users based on who they closely work with, helping them to quickly search through transcripts by the people they might be most interested in.

New meeting guides in Teams Premium help users customise their meetings and automate their setup. Managed by the IT department, it allows users to select a meeting type, like a client call, help desk call, or a meeting, to come up with ideas and the options will automatically be set.

In Teams Premium, organisations will also be able to customise their meeting branding into the meeting lobby and create custom backgrounds and 'together modes' for employees to enjoy.

Premium meetings will now include live translation for captions, delivering AI-powered, real-time translations from 40 spoken languages so meeting participants can read captions in their own language. If an organiser has Teams Premium, all meeting attendees will be able to use this feature.

The security of meetings is also now improved in Teams Premium with advanced meeting protection, to safeguard confidential meetings. It allows organisations to implement options like watermarking to deter leaks and limit who can record, aiming to help keep a discussion private.

Teams Premium will also allow users to easily schedule appointments through Virtual Appointments, a feature already available in Microsoft 365 and Office 365 . Customers will be able to receive text reminders to join custom-branded virtual appointments through their mobile devices without having to download Teams.

Microsoft Teams now uses 50% less power than when it first launched Microsoft reveals price decreases for Teams Rooms, new free tier Slack will now let you schedule messages up to 120 days in advance

Moreover, appointment schedules can be set up to manage scheduled and on-demand virtual appointments in one location, sporting capabilities like appointment queueing. Users will also get access to usage trends and the history of virtual appointments, complete with effectiveness metrics such as the rate of no-shows.

The introduction of advanced webinars in Teams Premium will bring new host and event management controls to make it easier to manage webinars.

There will be a registration wait list, keeping the webinar registration open even after the event has reached capacity to allow additional people to register and, if new spots open up, admit them if approved by an organiser. Organisers will also be able to send automated reminder emails ahead of their event.

The tech giant has also introduced a virtual green room, where hosts and presenters have a dedicated space separate from attendees where they can socialise, monitor, chat, manage attendee settings, and review content before the event starts.

Lastly, organisers will be able to curate the attendee view so attendees only see shared content and participants an organiser brings up on-screen. This can include multiple presenters with a presentation or even an attendee raising their hand to ask a question live in the webinar.

Features will begin to roll out in December 2022, as part of Teams Premium preview, with general availability expected in February 2023. Microsoft also said the expected price is set to be $10 per user per month.

What are the new features in Microsoft Teams?

Despite the tech giant unveiling its new premium tier, it’s also bolstering Microsoft Teams with new features.

The platform now supports video clips, allowing users to record, send, view, and reply from their desktop or phone. Videos can be played in a recipient’s chat, where they can reply with a message or video clip of their own.

Microsoft is expanding the reactions, where users can express feedback with more than 800 Teams emojis . This will be generally available in November.

The tech giant is also expanding suggested replies from one-on-one chats to group chats. It uses machine learning to generate responses most relevant in group conversations, where users can simply click on one of three responses displayed. This will be available in October.

Moreover, Teams will now have schedule send, which helps users manually select the future date and time that they would like a chat message to be delivered. Users will also be able to use delete chat from November, where they can easily remove themselves from one-on-one or group chat conversations they no longer wish to participate in, without impacting other participants in the same chat conversation.

The platform is also hoping to introduce mention @everyone by the end of the year, to allow users to notify an entire group without having to enter everyone’s name. Teams chat is also aiming to introduce zero-state people recommendations, which suggest specific people to initiate chat conversations based on previous collaborations.

Microsoft is also introducing Cameo, a PowerPoint experience that integrates the Teams camera feed into the PowerPoint Live presentation, allowing users to customise how they appear on slides, with layout recommendations for optimal viewing.

Excel Live was announced, too, it will allow teams to collaboratively edit Excel workbooks in real-time, within the meeting window, on any device, including Android and iOS phones and tablets .

Sheet Views allows everyone co-editing the workbook to sort or filter however they need, without disrupting anyone else’s view, it said. Microsoft expects this feature to roll out starting in October and will be generally available by the end of the year.

There’s also a Together mode, to make participants feel more like they’re together in the same room during a virtual meeting. Organisers can assign seats to meeting participants in this mode or select Together mode for everyone, so all meeting participants will have the same view.

Microsoft has also made Microsoft Teams Phone Mobile generally available. It’s integrated with a user's mobile device native dialler, so users can use their mobiles the way they’re used to while the organisation can enable business calling features and policies on the devices.

The aim is for calls to seamlessly move across networks and devices without any interruptions and can be converted from mobile networks to internet-based video calls in Teams.

It’s currently available with Rogers in Canada, and Telia in Sweden. Verizon, Deutsche Telekom, BT, and Swisscom are set to launch soon, although no specific data was provided, with more operators expected to join the programme.

Pepperdine transfer Jane Nwaba commits to Vanderbilt

Vanderbilt lands its first transfer this offseason.

Pepperdine's Jane Nwaba commits to Vanderbilt as a graduate student with one year left of eligibility remaining.

Jane Nwaba in a game versus Gonzaga. (Pepperdine athletics)

Nwaba averaged 10.7 points, 7.6 rebounds, 2.8 assists in 31.1 minutes per game. The forward started in all 30 games this past season.

The 5-foot-10 transfer spent four seasons at Pepperdine, showing an increase of production in all four seasons. This past season was the first where she averaged double-digit scoring.

The forward earned a West Coast Conference Honorable Mention after the 2023-24 season.

Nwaba recorded a career-high 22 points against San Fransisco and recorded eight double-doubles in her senior year.

Breaking down Nwaba's game:

If Nwaba was to be compared to a current Vanderbilt player, she has very similar traits to Jordyn Oliver.

The forward does a good job of getting inside, positioning herself well and rebounding the ball. She can also handle the basketball when needed to.

As far as scoring goes, Nwaba's strength is finishing inside. She is very efficient at scoring around the rim and can get downhill quickly. The forward also has the ability to finish through contact.

Nwaba does not have a great outside shot, shooting it at just 22.2% from behind the arc this past season. Although the percentage is not great, she does not shoot many 3-pointers, averaging just under two attempts per game.

Listed as a forward, Nwaba will likely fit in that small forward spot, since she does not have an outside shot developed. She possesses the rebounding skills needed to see the floor and help Vanderbilt in an area where it struggled last year.

Defensively, the transfer averaged 1.3 steals per contest, which will fit in well with Vanderbilt's aggressiveness on defense.

Where Nwaba fits:

While Nwaba will probably not come in and start, she will be a solid piece and provide depth off the bench.

She gives Shea Ralph the ability to interchange her and Jordyn Oliver, who was an important piece in Vanderbilt's success.

Nwaba was the glue at Pepperdine, averaging the most minutes, points and rebounds for the Waves.

While the numbers don’t jump out on paper, Pepperdine was a team that struggled so it’s hard to tell just how good Nwaba could be in a successful system.

Ralph and company have had success with transfers so far and Nwaba could be another example of that.

Wisconsin transfer Connor Essegian commits to Nebraska

Connor Essegian.

Nebraska landed its fourth transfer of the offseason today in former Wisconsin guard Connor Essegian .

Essegian, a 6-foot-4, 195-pounder with two years of eligibility remaining, spent the past two seasons with the Badgers. He announced his decision on social media.

A three-star recruit in the 2022 class out of Fort Wayne, Ind., Essegian played in 68 games with 13 starts during his career at Wisconsin.

After entering the portal on March 24, it was reported Essegian also visited Maryland and Indiana. Essegian reportedly visited Nebraska on Thursday, April 18.

Essegian played in all 35 games as a true freshman during the 2022-23 campaign and started 13 games. That year he averaged 11.7 points and 3.7 rebounds per game while shooting 40.4% from the field, 35.9% from 3-point range (69-of-192) and 88.4% from the free-throw line (76-of-86). He earned an Big Ten All-Freshman Team honor.

This past season Essegian dealt with a back injury suffered in the season-opener against Arkansas State and wasn't the same since. He ultimately fell out of the core rotation, playing in 33 games on the season with no starts while averaging 7.3 minutes per game.

Essegian averaged 3.2 points on the season while then transfer addition AJ Storr started and freshman guard John Blackwell was the top option off the bench, averaging 18.5 minutes. In limited action as a sophomore, Essegian shot 38.5% from the field, 30.3% from 3 and 90.9% from the free-throw line.

The Badgers' Jan. 6 win at home against Nebraska was one of Essegian's best outings of his sophomore season. He came off the bench to score 12 points in 12 minutes and connected on four of his seven attempts from 3.

Later in the season, in a win over Rutgers in February, Essegian scored a season-high 15 points and went 3-of-8 from 3.

Essegian joins North Dakota State forward Andrew Morgan , Utah/Utah State guard Rollie Worster and Rutgers guard/forward Gavin Griffiths as transfer additions to Fred Hoiberg 's program.

Nebraska returns two core pieces to its roster next season in guard Brice Williams and forward Juwan Gary , who will both be in their sixth years. Forward Rienk Mast could be a third, but hasn't yet announced if he'll return to the program for his sixth and final season or play professionally overseas.

The Huskers also return veteran point guard Ahron Ulis , who joined the team from Iowa last offseason but wasn't eligible to play due to his involvement in the Iowa gambling scandal.

Nebraska currently has three scholarships remaining to fill out the rest of the 2024-25 roster.

How Bears plan to fund Chicago stadium project, and how much it will cost taxpayers

Getting down to the bottom line for a potential bears stadium project in chicago, by alex shapiro • published april 24, 2024.

The Bears announced how they plan to fund a potential new stadium project in Chicago, and how much they believe it will cost.

Bears COO and executive vice president of stadium development Karen Murphy said in a presentation on Wednesday that the team expects the entire stadium project to cost $4.7 billion: $3.2 for the stadium itself and just over $300 million for the infrastructure required to open it, then $1.2 billion for two other phases of development.

Watch NBC Chicago local news and weather for free 24/7

Last month, the team confirmed it would contribute $2 billion dollars to fund the majority of the project. On Wednesday, a slide in the presentation clarified that number would be closer to $2.025 billion dollars. After that, the team would look to an NFL stadium program for a $300 million loan. That leaves a $900 million gap for the stadium financing itself. The Bears plan has them looking to a bond mechanism in the Illinois Sports Facilities Authority program to make up the difference.

The Bears said a 2% hotel tax that is already in place for the ISFA should be able to make up the $900 million they need from public funds.

There wasn’t a clear answer as to where the team would get the $300 million for the infrastructure, however. Murphy said the team is still working with the state and looking into different funding sources.

7 big takeaways from the Chicago Bears new stadium proposal

If the team gets the public funding needed to open the stadium, they said there will be two more phases of development requiring public money: one to maximize infrastructure for the stadium and surrounding campus totaling $510 million, and another phase for “optional infrastructure to enhance the campus, improve circulation, and maximize public economic benefits,” totaling $665 million. Add up all three phases plus the IFSA funding, and it's nearly $2.4 billion in public money.

Chicago mayor Brandon Johnson said on Wednesday that the Bears’ new plan to build a stadium in Chicago will not raise taxes on city residents.

“I’m going to repeat that one more time to make sure that everybody gets it,” Johnson said after the announcement. “This project will result in no new taxes on the residents of Chicago.”

It's still not clear where some of the funding will come from. Additionally, the Bears indicated they could potentially look for city money as well as state and federal dollars.

The Bears bought 326 acres of land in Arlington Heights last year, and previously announced plans to build a new stadium there. But contentious negotiations about property taxes in the suburbs have become an obstacle for that plan. Earlier this year the team said it was switching its focus away from Arlington Heights back to the city.

Gamecocks Pick Up 2nd Commitment For 2026 Class Following Spring Game Visit

presentation teams premium

South Carolina picked up its 2nd early commitment for the 2026 class today when 4-star LB/S Rodney Colton Jr. decided to go public with his decision.

Colton is ranked as the #12 Safety in the country and is a Rivals Top200 recruit. His lengthy 6'2" frame fits right in that mold of Gamecock safeties like Nick Emmanwori and DQ Smith , but unlike that pair, Colton has already gotten plenty of national attention, with offers from nearly every major program in the southeast, including Georgia, Auburn, Florida, Tennessee, LSU and more.

It's still possible he could ultimately end up a bit closer to the line of scrimmage at LB, and it'll be interesting to see where he lines up for Newnan High School as a junior, after missing several games as a Sophomore

Colton just picked up an offer from the Gamecocks this past weekend when he visited for the Garnet and Black spring game, and needless to say the trip made a strong impression.

He joins 4-star QB Landon Duckworth to give the Gamecocks some early momentum in the 2026 class which seems to have an uptick of in-state interest, with 3 of the top 5 ranked prospects visiting for last Saturday's spring game in 4-star S J'Zavien Currence (#1 in the state), 3-star WR Donovan Murph (#3 in the state) and 3-star WR Jordan Gidron (#5 in the state).

Auburn adds second transfer DL

presentation teams premium

If at first you don't succeed, try again.

Auburn did just that with Isaiah Raikes .

The former Texas A&M defensive lineman transferred to USC during the winter portal window and entered the portal after USC's spring practices. Auburn, which missed on Raikes the first go around, did not miss again.

He committed to the Tigers Monday, becoming Auburn's second incoming transfer for the spring window.

Isaiah Raikes has announced his commitment to Auburn.

Raikes, who was a four-star defensive lineman in the 2020 class, played his high school football for St. Augustine in Richland, N.J., prior to signing with Texas A&M.

He spent four seasons in College Station, where over his career he recorded 42 tackles, 4.5 tackles for loss and 1.5 sacks. However, he saw plenty of playing time while he was an Aggie.

As a sophomore, junior and senior, Raikes made appearances in 12 games for three consecutive seasons with Texas A&M. He made five starts and was a team captain in 2022.

Vontrell King-Williams now has two newcomers from the spring portal window, both on the defensive front. Auburn landed the commitment of Indiana defensive lineman Phillip Blidi Sunday, who will rotate with the defensive tackles.

Meanwhile, the 6-foot-2, 320-pound Raikes will slide in at noseguard for the Tigers. He provides another big piece on the defensive front for Auburn, which needed to add a couple more lineman through the portal.

With two transfers committed in two days, King-Williams got what he needed.

ASU transfer Jaden Rashada commits to Georgia

Kirby Smart stated his desire to have four scholarship quarterbacks on campus. Well, now he does.

Former Arizona State quarterback Jaden Rashada announced after a visit to Athens that he will become a Bulldog.

Rashada will have four years of eligibility remaining after playing just three games his freshman year with the Sun Devils. He missed most of the season with a knee injury.

The Pittsburgh, California native started the first two games for the Sun Devils, completing 44 of 82 passes for 485 yards and four touchdowns before missing the rest of the season due to injury.

In his first start against Southern Utah (a 24-21 win), Rashada completed 18 of 31 passes for 236 yards and two scores.

Week 2 against Oklahoma State saw the Cowboys come away with a 27-15 win, with Rashada completing 16 of 29 passes for 169 yards with a touchdown and an interception.

He would come back to play in a 59-23 loss to archrival Arizona, completing 10 of 22 passes for 82 yards and a score with two picks.

Rashada also missed spring practice after undergoing surgery on the thumb of his throwing hand. But he'll be ready for the start of fall camp.

At Georgia, Rashada will join a quarterback room that includes starter Carson Beck, along with redshirt sophomore Gunner Stockton and true freshman Ryan Puglisi.

Per Rivals, Rashada was the nation’s 11th-ranked pro-style quarterback out of high school, and 164th-ranked player after all.

He originally committed to Miami before flipping to Florida, ultimately de-committing from the Gators after his $13.8 million NIL deal fell through. He then signed with Arizona State, his father’s alma mater.

Rashada was not offered by the Bulldogs while in high school.

Arizona State quarterback Jaden Rashada announced he is transferring to Georgia.
