Our  institution is a recognized Research Centre under  Kerala University of Health Sciences Thrissur, offering PhD program in Nursing as per university Guidelines. 

(OrderNo.4563/2013/Research/KUHS/Dt.11/07/2014 (GC Implemented U.O 4536 /Dean R/KUHS/2013 Dt.01/02/2016)

Ph.D in Nursing is a research-focused doctoral degree that focuses on high quality, scientific research that advances the entire nursing profession and education. The duration of the course ranges from 3 to 5 years. 

The syllabus and curriculum comprises  extensive evidence-based research by the nursing experts who have had  obtained their PhD in Nursing.The PhD in Nursing is the highest level of education that a student of nursing can achieve. It is a remarkable academic achievement which when put to use has the influence to change the health care system for the remarkable betterment of people.

Finally, these experts can be researchers, educators, administrators, consultants and help in shaping the health care policies. 

Eligibility 

Selection of candidates to the Ph.D. program will be based on previous academic record of the candidate, and also on one’s performance in the entrance test conducted by the university. Final selection to the program will be based on an interview conducted by university at a later stage.

The eligibility criteria for PhD in Nursing are:

Firstly, the candidates should have completed Post graduation in Nursing or any other equivalent discipline from a recognized university with an aggregate of at least 55% marks. 

Secondly, the candidate should clear the entrance examination of the KUHS they apply for.

Thirdly, UGC-NET Qualified.Candidates who has already passed the UGC/CISR tests conducted within two years prior to the notification for the present admission made by the University. Those who have been selected for the award of fellowship for research by UGC/CSIR/ICMR/DBT/KSCSTE or other similar fellowships. Those who have been selected by the UGC under the Faculty Improvement Program (FIP)   

After completing the PhD Nursing program, candidates can pursue leadership positions in a wide range of fields including hospitals, healthcare facilities, social service agencies, health policy and planning departments etc.

 If teaching is your passion, you can also opt for a teaching job as a professor in a global university.

 With their immense knowledge, PhD degree holders usually get positions that need a large amount of intellect.  

Since, this is one of the highest honorary degrees awarded to an individual who has contributed in the field of research. National Consortium For PhD Nursing

The College of Nursing is one of the seven study centres in the country for the National Consortium for PhD in Nursing under Indian Nursing Council affiliated to the Rajiv Gandhi University, Bangalore. The idea of adopting CNE department as one of the nodal centres was conceived as back as 2003, under the leadership of Dr. Punitha Ezhilarasu, and deliberation and facility up-gradation, the first batch of PhD scholars was taken in 2006. Eight batches have been enrolled so far.

The department conducts the following activities of Consortium through video conferencing:

• A week long contact classes (3 – 4 per year) for the PhD scholars
• Finalization of research topics (30 per year)
• Pre PhD examination (End of first year)
• Proposal defense (End of first year)
• Synopsis presentation prior to Viva Voce
• Viva Voce examination (Public viva)
• Core committee meetings

Presently, the department has the expertise of 5 PhD guides and 4 PhD teaching faculty. PhD guides : Dr. Premila Lee, Dr. Vatsala Sadan, Dr. Vinitha Ravindran and Dr. Manornjitham Sathyaseelan. A total of 21 PhD scholars are being guided by the faculty.
