Miral Movie Review (2022)
Bharath and vani bhojan's miral tamil movie review by galatta - directed by m. sakthivel.
Miral Movie Cast & Crew
Director M. Sakthivel's Miral produced under the Axess Film Factory stars Bharath and Vani Bhojan in the lead roles and has been released in theatres today. Miral is a slasher thriller and had an intense, dark, and gritty trailer released sometime back, which was well-received by fans. Has the film lived up to the expectations? Well, here we go.
When Rama (Vani Bhojan) starts having a mental breakdown after having some dreams, her husband Hari (Bharath) decides to take her to their family temple hoping to make things better. But, can they survive the series of mysterious encounters on their own?
SCREENPLAY, DIALOGUES, AND DIRECTION
The screenplay of Miral written by M. Sakthivel is a riveting thriller that will keep the audience hooked to their seats with its elements. It has been a long time since such a film has been written and when finally made, it hits the mark. It is carefully thought out and framed in order to bring the maximum amount of potential out of it. It definitely is not perfect (which movie is?) but that isn't something that will make the audience want to rip the hair right off of their heads.
Since dialogues come under screenplay, it contributes to what was written. The dialogue in Miral helps move the story forward as there is not much that is unnecessary that will make the audience scratch their heads. Almost everything that is being conveyed is for the audience to understand what is going on and to keep up with all the mystery that takes place on the screen. With M. Sakthivel making his debut as a director with Miral, he knew exactly what he needed to do given the fact that he wrote the film. He knew what the end result had to look like and it definitely appears as if he gave it his all to achieve that. He executed the screenplay in a direction as well as he could and it shows. Miral certainly does not look like a movie made by a debutant director and kudos to him for that.
Bharath has done a great job in this thriller and it is something one cannot look past. It is promising, intense, and very convincing which adds to his ability as an actor. He does not disappoint and completely sells his performance with the script that he has got and the material he has at his disposal to work with.
Vani Bhojan, just like Bharath, gives it her all. She is not just another character in a film that is just there as a necessity of a female element. She plays a crucial role and is definitely a character that helps the story move forward - so when it comes to that, she nailed it. Her performance seems natural and one may even be able to connect with it. That is how well she has done.
The cinematography is on point. Suresh Bala was able to capture the essence required and was able to project that on the screen wonderfully. Being a thriller, it is usually easy to create suspense in a closed space. But, Bala showed off his capabilities as a cinematographer by creating room for eerie uneasiness even in vast open spaces with his framing and use of lighting. This is something that can surely not be ignored as almost every frame is carefully orchestrated.
Music composer Prasad S N did a magnificent job with the background score. It keeps the audience hooked and on their feet, and his captivating BGMs only add to the mystery and thrilling ride of the film. It is used carefully in order to heighten the suspense, intensify the emotions that are being felt, and capture the weight of the moment.
Miral is an edge-of-the-seat thriller that embarks on a wonderful journey to give the audience an experience that is fresh and respective of the genre with no unnecessary detours.
Verdict: A racy, heart-pounding thriller that is bound to have the audience hooked right from the very beginning.

Miral is a Tamil thriller film written and directed by M Sakthivel. The film stars Bharath, Vani Bhojan, KS Ravi Kumar in the lead roles and produced by G Dilli Babu for the banner Axess Film Factory.
The story unfolds on the events surrounding the life of Hari and Rama who return to the hometown of Rama after a longtime since their elopement. A night journey back to their locality becomes a nightmare for the family. Will they break all the barricades putforth by the exisiting and the departed?
Bharath gives a qualitative performance with rage seeping through his eyes. Vani Bhojan on the other hand supports the core of the plot who turns timid to daring within the given scope. KS Ravi Kumar's role is meaty, elusive and progressive which is played with ease by the veteran. Rest of the cast perform single dimensionally for the plot to move forward.
Technical facets of the film does full justice to the script and the choice of evading songs is a biggest positive for the film's pacing. Background score stretches its hands to pull the tension buried in the script. The dialogues become redundant after a point of time.
Narrative tropes of a thriller film is exploited to the maximum as the plot is filled with the usual tyre punctures, take diversion boards, and timely jumpscares. The inclusion of supernatural element is good, but doesnt add the much needed impact to the story as the gimmicks of horror genre doesnt blend with the world constructed by the plot.
The second half of the film in which the events and its motives are explained engages the audience, but comes after a long setback. Final shot of the film lands the punch which should have been the case with the entire script.
A film under the banner Axess film factory will always create buzz among cinephiles due to their interesting filmography. In this particular venture, the film stalls to capitalize on the expectations bestowed on it yet delivering a decent output. As a whole, the generic narrative of revenge saves the film.

Extremely slow and repeated scenes. U shd have a lot of patience to see this movie. Very weak story. But if the director is really brilliant then he could definitely do this better in screenplay at least. Actually he can shrink it in 15 mins as a shortfilm.

Miral movie review: Bharath, Vani Bhojan's thriller boasts of compelling ideas, but lacks solid punch
The chemistry between lead actors is one of the convincing aspects of the movie, but the director's repeated attempts to deceive the audience with twists fizzle out
A still from Miral

Story: A couple, who is worried about the spate of unfortunate incidents in their lives, decides to please a powerful deity in one of their ancestral villages. They travel to the small town along with their child pinning high hopes on their future. But the village which was supposed to solve their endless miseries poses a huge threat to their lives, thanks to various mysteries surrounding the place. The couple gets attacked by unknown people and evil spirits at an isolated place, leaving them horrified. Can they escape the terrifying clutches of unsolved puzzles in the village?
Review: M Sakthivel's Miral deals with an intriguing plot which resorts to a narration which relies on multiple genres. The director has attempted to cleverly shift its genres at crucial junctures and focuses completely on deceiving the audience with twists.
The film begins with an arresting sequence that involves a three-member family. The manner in which the scene has been staged gives you chills. But when we get hooked to the proceedings, we are deceived by showcasing that it was a dream one of the characters in the film had. The movie offers more of such misleading moments to keep viewers entertained.
Hari (Bharathi) and Rema (Vani Bhojan), a Chennai-based couple who are distressed over frequent inauspicious events in their life, are clueless over their future. Upon an advice from the latter's mother (Meera Krishnan), the two of them visit their village deity along with their child at the latter's ancestral home.
Rema's father (KS Ravikumar), who still holds grudge over the couple for getting hitched without his approval, forgets his differences with them and helps them with all auspicious ceremonies. Hari and Rema, who are hopeful of a new beginning, go back to Chennai with a fulfilled heart. However, little did they know that an unexpected attack from an unknown person and a couple of evil spirits would turn their life topsy-turvy.
Miral, which is touted as a slasher film, begins as a horror flick. The plot is organically developed with the help of a few interesting moments. The emotional scenes involving the couple and Rema's family members do not dilute the movie's pace and curious factor.
The pre-interval sequence stands out with terrific visuals from Suresh Bala which is complemented by Prasad's background music. The performances from Bharath and Vani lend adequate support to the staging in the scene. In fact, their chemistry is one of the convincing aspects of the movie.
However, the screenplay turns tepid after a point and the proceedings start testing patience because of the repetitive moments. The character of the unknown attacker has been presented in a riveting manner; his unpredictable actions lift the film at certain junctures. But the inclusion of a couple of more characters spoil the mood, thus turning the whole set up into superficial ambience.
Danger Mani's stunt choreography is neat, though the plot offers more scope for action. The crucial twist that appears in the pre-climax portion and a backstory related to it turns out to be underwhelming. The director's repeated attempts to deceive the audience with smart twists fizzle out after a point.
Verdict: With a promising plot and convincing chemistry between a few characters, Miral offers a few intriguing moments. But the flimsy twists and turns in the latter half end up disappointing viewers.

An average thriller that builds tension in the first half only to be brought down by mediocre writing in the latter half.

A slasher thriller that largely revolves around a family being terrorised by unknown identities.
Sticks to its genre and engages with the scares n atmospherics which is well done. The twist was surprisingly an unexpected one mainly coz of the casting that ties up quite a few open knots from before.
Watchable one.

Miral - Deceptive supernatural thriller that banks on jump scares
Scarecrow thrillers are a dime a dozen in Hollywood and director M. Shakthivel has attempted to bring to Tamil audiences one with a local flavor. Has he succeeded in scaring the scarecrow out of his audiences as the title suggests remains to be seen.
Hari (Bharath) and Rama (Vani Bhojan) are a young couple with a five year old son who live in Chennai. Rama is undergoing mental trauma often having a nightmare of a hideous masked man killing her husband and coming for her and her son in an isolated place. Hari also has a lucky escape from a freak accident at his construction site that completely destroys his car. Hari decides to take Rama and his son to her parents village to conduct rituals to try and ward off the supernatural from their lives. At the village Rama's father played by K.S. Ravikumar who is not on good terms with them due to their eloped marriage makes peace with them. Hari, Rama and their son experience supernatural occurrences and it is decided to conduct the family deity appeasing rituals immediately. Hari's friend (Rajkumar) and his wife and son are also invited to take part. After the function Hari and his family have to leave to Chennai for an urgent work and start in the night in spite of warnings. On the way they experience a car breakdown and are attacked by a scarecrow come alive with the intent to kill them. What is really happening and whether the trapped family escape is what 'Miral' is all about.
Bharath and Vani Bhojan have delivered neat performances in spite of the one dimensional roles that they are saddled with. Rajkumar in a deceptive role as Bharath's friend is impressive especially in the climax. K.S. Ravikumar, Arjai, Meera Krishnan and Kaavya Arivumani form the rest of the cast.
'Miral' starts of as psychological thriller before turning to the supernatural and ends as a deceptive revenge drama. These elements are what keeps the interest going for most parts. The end twist hits hard that would not have been guessed by most.
On the downside 'Miral' with a running time of less than two hours test the patience by dwelling too long on the buildups. The chase scenes are also not logical and few will digest the abrupt point of view change at the end. There is also too much dependence on jump scares while the situations had scope to provide a better thrill. The heroes putting an innocent woman and child in grave danger and trauma is not justifiable even though the villain absolutely deserves it.
Suresh Bala's cinematography is a major plus with the wide aerial shots of the isolated place and the rotating turbines adding to the intrigue while the closeups of Vani Bhojan and the others experiencing the horror have the desired effect. The rest of the technical aspects are on par. Axess Film Factory has built a strong reputation of producing thrillers of various genres and this is no doubt a novel attempt as well. Director M. Shakthivel has got the concepts right but has slipped in writing a gripping screenplay. His execution however is good and one should say better luck next time to him.
Verdict : Go for it if you fancy deceptive thrillers
Rating: 2.75 / 5.0

Miral Tamil Movie Review

Miral Movie Review
Miral is a thriller genre film starring Bharath and Vani Bhojan in the lead roles. It is directed by a debutant named M. Sakthivel and the project is bankrolled by profound production house Axess Film Factory.
Bharath and Vani Bhojan are married, one night, Vani Bhojan dreams of Bharath getting slashed and killed by a stranger when they are on a road trip. Shockingly, they land in a similar situation in reality. How they escape from it forms the remaining story.
Writing/ Direction:
The overall story arc is acceptable, but it is extremely thin. Less than 2 hours' duration looks calming from outside, however there should be a screenplay that should manage to hold the viewers even if it’s a short film. And, that’s a complete backfire here, each and every scene in the movie lags to a huge extent. Sequences that could be presented in less than a minute are extended for a very long time, sluggish pace is never an issue, but there should be something interesting going on right. Poor script developments as the flow is empty, till the interval block it feels the main picture hasn’t even started yet. There are some thrilling moments and jump scares once in a while, but that’s not sufficient enough to sustain the excitement. The character establishments are very basic, we don’t get to empathize with the hero’s family, I cannot even root for the little kid, so there’s zero impact when they suffer and have a hard time. Probably the director thought that he is saving the best for the last and has told a new story altogether at the very end and tried to justify. In the case of Pizza (2012), everything came together so fluently and thus it was accepted, but here it’s out of the way. It feels, the film started at one point, traveled relentlessly on a different route and ended in a way that no one saw it coming.
Performances:
Bharath delivers a subtle performance, maintaining the mood of a scene carefully. Vani Bhojan has played her part decently. KS Ravikumar has got a role in which he has been the usual himself, but the character didn’t stand tall for him to impress with his skills. Same with the proven good actor Rajkumar of NKPK fame, but his role is very weak and one-dimensionally written. There are no other noteworthy actor’s performances or characters in the film.
Technicalities:
No songs, which is a good thing for a crisp thriller. Background score is convincing, creating quite a number of moments that hold predominantly because of the music. Except for certain shots being excessively bright, the camera work was pretty neat throughout. Editing is the biggest drawback here, lags all-over and repetitive shots like the windmill, scarecrow used as scene transitions. Art direction, make up, sound effects should have been much better to provide a neater output.
Content-wise it is in the length of a short film, to stretch it out to a feature, screenplay requires plenty of interesting elements to engage and that is absolutely missing here.

Miral Movie Review
Bharath and vani bhojan are good in this technically sound film. below goes our miral movie review..
Slasher thrillers are a genre very common in Hollywood, with many jump scares and moments that would shock the audience. When a director from Tamil Nadu came forward attempting this, it is indeed interesting to check out the result.
For starters, Miral is a story that starts off very well. Rama (Vani Bhojan) has been getting nightmares for quite a while, and Hari (Bharath) is a man who is troubled by the same. When he gets advice from surrounding that he should visit the deity and offer prayers, he abides by the same and visits Rama’s hometown. However, he is forced to get back home quickly due to work pressure, and the family of 3 leave the hometown at night, only to encounter horrors on the way.
Miral is quite interesting with respect to its plot, but the film does not manage to pack in thrills one after the other and is more busy paving the way to jump scares. The film successfully keeps our interest pinned in the first half, but the second half is a line of yays and nays. The ending is debatable and may not work for all, as it is quite a downer to see director Sakthivel resorting to the usual social message for the finale. On the whole, the film is saved by its jump scares and the guessing factor that keeps the ball rolling.
Bharath and Vani Bhojan offer good performances to the film and are very good in the scary scenes, but their chemistry together as a pair is a bit off. The film’s best casting may be KS Ravikumar, who makes a mark whenever on screen. Rajkumar is loud and erratic in his performance.
The film has very good technicalities – the music by Prasad SN is definitely a plus point, and the cinematography too is on point.
On the whole, Miral is a decent thriller that proves that it is possible to make a horror film without a haunted house or a possessed being. The film does not achieve its potential but may suit fans of the genre. Miral Movie Review by Only Kollywood
Verdict: A decent, watchable slasher thriller!

Miral movie review: Bharath, Vani Bhojan's thriller boasts of compelling ideas, but lacks solid punch. The chemistry between lead actors is one of the convincing aspects of the movie, but the director's repeated attempts to deceive the audience with twists fizzle out. 2.5/5. A still from Miral.
