  • Friends On An Adventure Trip To Manali: A Journey Full Of Joy And Thrill

27 Mar 2023

Travel enthusiasts from a young age, Pankaj and his friends decided to take a well-earned break from their college and go on a 2 nights/3 days Manali adventure trip . Over there, they enjoyed the thrill of river rafting, paragliding, and many more exciting adventure sports.

My friends and I were planning a vacation after our college exams. We thought of it as the perfect way to de-stress after an energy-sapping college schedule.

We had narrowed down our options to Manali and Goa. After considering the weather and the season, we thought of going to the much colder destination- Manali. I found the TravelTriangle website while searching for Manali holiday packages on Google. The packages listed on their website were 100% customizable with very competitive prices. On top of that, I could choose from multiple agents depending on what suited us best.

The booking process went by pretty quickly and was a relatively hassle-free process for our Manali adventure trip . It was time to keep the books aside, dust off our leather boots, and shine our aviators as my friends and I were about to embark on an adventure in the Himalayan mountains. The trip to Manali cost was a nominal sum. The trip to Manali cost was well-adjusted between us three and we embarked on our trip.

Day 1: Overnight cab journey from New Delhi to Manali

journey to manali

After taking a train from Bhubaneshwar , we arrived in New Delhi at 11 pm . The cab driver received us at the railway station, and we began our overnight journey for our Manali trip with friends . En route Manali, we stopped in the Kullu Valley to do river-rafting in the Beas river .

We paid for the full 16 km rafting course possible in Kullu valley. As none of us knew swimming, there was an added level of anxiety before we jumped onto the raft. However, everything went smoothly, and we had a thrilling ride through the intense rapids of the Beas river on our adventure trip to Manali with friends .

Later, we continued on our journey to Manali and reached our hotel at 3 pm . After checking in, all of us were in big need of an afternoon nap. An overnight cab journey and a two-hour river rafting session were enough to slow us down this evening. We woke up at 6 pm and wandered out to explore the mall road on our Manali trip with friends . Our evening ended with us filling ourselves up to the fullest, with a delicious dinner buffet at the hotel.

Day 2: Freezing adventures at Rohtang Pass

The next morning, we woke up fully recharged for a day of sightseeing and adventure. Post breakfast, we proceeded towards Rohtang Pass by taxi. However, due to the heavy snowfall, it wasn’t certain if we would be able to cross Gulaba, and reach Rohtang Pass .

On our Manali trip with friends , Luck was on our side, as we were given a clearance to visit Rohtang Pass. We had a great time in Rohtang Pass , which was covered beautifully with a blanket of snow . The first-hand experience of visiting a hill station with sub-zero temperatures was truly blissful. After playing around in the snow for a few hours, the cab took us back towards Manali.

Next up, we visited Solang Valley on our Manali trip with friends to take part in adventure sports. Over there, all of us tried zorbing and paragliding. At first, going downhill trapped inside a rubber ball looked like a bad idea, but in the end, zorbing was a great adventure. On the other hand, during paragliding, I felt like a majestic eagle, once I jumped off the cliff and soared above the Solang Valley along with my paragliding guide.

Afterward, we headed back for Manali and asked the driver to drop us off at Mall Road for some shopping on our Manali trip with friends . We bought some shawls and jackets at reasonable prices. A few hours later, we returned to the hotel, had dinner, and called it a night.

On the final day of our trip to Manali, we scheduled a half-day sightseeing tour around Manali. First up, we began by taking divine blessing from the Hadimba Temple . After that, we moved to the Vashisht village to visit its temple and hot springs. It was incredible seeing the 4000-year-old hot springs , which is believed to contain healing powers. The tour ended with a visit to the inspiring Buddhist monastery in Manali.

We returned to the hotel at noon to check out and head back towards New Delhi in our cab. On our way out, we thanked the hotel staff in Manali for their excellent service and great food. Our trip to Manali came to an end as we arrived back in Delhi at 11 pm, a few hours before our train to Bhubaneshwar.

My Experience in visiting Manali

In April 2010, I visited Manali along with my family. It was a wonderful experience there. I had first ever seen some of things that I never seen ever before. Catch my memorable experiences through this article. Hereby sharing my experience about visiting that famous hill station.

Picture 100

Why only Manali ?

About manali, my first day of journey, my second day of journey, my third day of journey, my fourth day of journey, my overall experience.

Manali is my dream destination. In fact I am an ardent lover of travel. I have been to other hill stations like Munnar and Ooty but never been to Manali. This article is inviting me to Manali mainly to experience the snow fall.

We had been to Kullu and Manali with family a few years back and it was an exhilarating experience. We found very small size Chinese onions and saffron being sold there. We visited the Buddhist Temple also in the city and enjoyed local cuisine in restaurants in the market. The journey from Chandigarh by taxi enabled us to halt en route to enjoy the scenic beauty at few spots.

Your article on Manali got indelibly etched in my mind. I have not been to such one place of extreme natural beauty so far because of the procrastinating mind I possess. After reading this article, I have decided, what may come, asap I have to be there and that my next journey should be one that is a real treat to my eyes.

14 Awesome Things To See In Manali With Friends & Family

If you follow me on Instagram, you must have seen my instant updates of my Manali trip which I took in December 2019. Though this was my 4th trip to Manali but that’s the beauty of Manali, you never get bored of it. Manali, I feel is a place where you can go with your friends as well as family, and obviously suitable for solo travellers too. Once, Manali was a backpacking capital of India but now, it’s a place for every kind of traveller. In this post, I will share top things to see in Manali with friends and family. I am sure if you are planning a trip to Manali, you are going to find this post really useful. I strongly recommend you to bookmark this Manali blog for your ease.

So here are top things to see in Manali with friends and family:

Top Things To See In Manali

Solang valley:.

Solang Valley is a beautiful place situated just about 30 minutes of drive from main Manali. The snow-covered peaks makes the sight really beautiful. Also, if you love adventure sports then you are surely going to love Solang Valley. Here, you can do zorbing, skiing, para-gliding, rifting, ice-scooter riding and lots more. Of all the places in Manali, I personally loved Solang Valley and I must say, Solang Valley should be on top of your list of things to see in Manali.

Bonus tip: If you are going in Nov, Dec, & Jan then make sure you reach the place by 9 AM as it’s the peak season for all the snow lovers and place becomes really crowded. If you reach late then 1) you will not get car/cab parking and you’ll have to walk a lot to reach to the main point, 2) you’ll have to wait really long for your turn, if you try any adventure sport there.

Naggar Castle:

Built by Raja Sidh Singh of Kullu in around 1460 A.D, Naggar Castle is really a beautiful preserved castle turned hotel. Though, if you do not wish to stay there, you can simply visit the castle, walk around the museum and click photos there. The castle have been used to shot many Bollywood songs including ‘ O Re Piya ‘ from Tere Naal Love Ho Gaya and ‘Y eh Ishq Haaye ‘ from Jab We Met.

Hidimba Temple:

Hidimba temple is an ancient cave temple of Devi Hidimba who is the wife of Bhima, the Mahabharata’s epic hero. The temple has a view point and a beautiful park which is totally worth spending a quality time with nature. Although, during the peak hours around 4PM, it becomes very crowded therefore it is better to visit the temple at early hours around 10-11 AM.

Manali Monastery:

Gadhan Thekchhokling Gompa Monastery or popularly known as the Tibetan Monastery of Manali is situated just about 10 minutes walk from the Mall Road of Manali. The place is very peaceful and if you are into meditation or simply love visiting monasteries (just like me) then this is a one of the not-to-miss things to see in Manali.

Vashisht Temple:

Here’s another famous temple to visit in Manali. Vashisht Temple is a known for natural hot water spring. If you wish to witness the magic of nature, then do visit this temple as here you’ll get to how the natural hot water coming out from the source of the mountains.

Manikaran Gurudwara:

Visiting Manikaran requires an entire day as it is about 3 hours drive from Manali. It is an old and famous Gurudwara which is known for the natural hot water which is believed to be medicated. It is said that this water was used to heal wounds and diseases many years ago. There is also an old Shiva temple just about 5 minutes walk from the Gurudwara.

Mall road is a shopaholics heaven and foodie’s paradise. Here, from Handicrafts to handlooms, to toys and accessories, you get it all. There are many amazing cafes and restaurants on the Mall Road that one should not miss. My personal favourites are Amigos German Bakery and Noodles restaurant. You may also try eating 5 flavours softy on the mall road, it’s really good.

Bonus tip: Shopping on the Mall Road in Manali is similar to shopping in the local markets of Delhi and Mumbai (or maybe your own city), so make sure you bargain before you pay.

Rohtang Pass:

Just about 50kms from Manali, Rohtang Pass is a beautiful highway top which gives you an amazing view of mountains. Though, from Nov to March, Rohtang is closed due to road blockage from heavy snow, but here’s a pic from my previous visit to Rohtang Pass. Also, you need to take special permission to visit Rohtang. So, make sure you get the permission because before you enter the area there is a check post.

More Options For Local Sight Seeing in Manali:

Apart from the above mentioned things to see in Manali, you can also-

  • Visit the Van Vihar forest, which is just opposite to the Mall Road of Manali
  • Visit Vaishno Devi Cave temple in Kullu
  • Visit Club House of Manali; here you can shop for handlooms, or play games. Don’t go to the haunted house, it’s waste for money.
  • Visit apple orchards; it’s seasonal and you might see it only in the month of June, July etc
  • Visit Kasol; you need 2 days for it

This time I stayed in Bodh International Hotel . This is a 3 star property, walking distance from the Mall Road. Apart from the good location and cozy rooms, this hotel is not that good. If you’re expecting for good food or fast room service, this ain’t a good option.

Before this, I stayed in La Ri Sa Resort, which is an amazing resort with a beautiful library and big apple orchards within the premises. Read my review of La Ri Sa Resort here .

100 Words Essay on A Visit to a Hill Station

My family and I took a holiday to Mussoorie for my summer holidays. We took a train to Dehradun and then took a bus to Mussoorie from there. We arrived in the late afternoon and checked into a beautiful hotel. Mussoorie is one of India's many hill stations. It is also known as the "Queen of Hill Stations." It has lots of lovely places. The following morning, after breakfast, we visited the town. We went to the Landour, Library, and Kulri markets. They were all crowded with tourists. We took a stroll along the Mall and Camelback Road after lunch. We also visited Kempty Fall the next day—the weather was amazing. The tall, green trees that cover the mountain slopes make for a lovely spectacle at dusk making Mussorie a wholesome place to visit.

200 Words Essay on A Visit to a Hill Station

Last December, I travelled with my family to Manali. It is a great place with lovely hills, lovely surroundings, and active streets. We were treated to a beautiful wonderland. Snow enveloped the picturesque town of Manali. We drove to the hotel, rested for a little, and then headed to the Manu temple. Its location is renowned for providing beautiful views of the valley. We then visited another well-known Hadimba temple. There were many sights to view in Manali, and some of them and some events had a greater emotional impact on us than others, such as paragliding and parachuting was an eye-opening experience for me and made me see the beauty in the world.

I also had my first ever ice-skating experience where I kept falling but it was still a lot of fun. On the way back to our hotel, it started snowing and I was in complete awe of it. We stayed in Manali for another two days and stopped by in Shimla on our way back. We visited the temples there and also took a leisure walk on the mall road and enjoyed the street food. This was one of the best and most treasured trips of my life.

500 Words Essay on A Visit to a Hill Station

Every summer, a quick vacation to a hill station is exciting and highly alluring. Everyone seeks to escape the harsh heat to relax and revitalise. During my summer holiday, my entire family and I travelled to Shimla. Shimla is the capital of Himachal Pradesh, which during the British era also served as the summer capital of India for six of the country's hottest months.

My mother, brother, and sister were all looking forward to the journey to this lovely hill station. We decided to take the train because we love taking rail trips. Early in the morning, we boarded the train headed for Shimla, passing through these beautiful green spaces, tunnels, and picturesque mountains. We were completely captivated by the scenery of numerous other hill towns, like Solan, Jakej, and Kumarhatti.

Places We Visited

Since the Shimla railway station is practically at the bottom of the town, it turned out to be quite a hike to the hotel. But it was absolutely worth it because our view from the hotel was breathtaking. We rested for a while and chatted with the hotel manager about our options for sightseeing.

Mall Road | We then went to Mall Road in the evening and enjoyed street food, coffee shops and vintage bookstores. We also saw upscale stores, elegant hotels, restaurants, a few bars, coffee shops and a Post & Telegraph office along the Mall Road route.

Hanuman Temple | We went to visit Hanuman Temple the next morning— it is a well-known temple for devotion and sightseeing and is frequently visited by both locals and tourists. It's a good spot for a picnic as well. There were a lot of monkeys who were being fed bananas and peanuts by the visitors to keep them from acting hostile. My little sister became rather frightened of them but they were harmless.

Lakkar Bazaar | In the late evening we saw a winding road leading to a beautiful small Lakkar Bazaar beyond the ridge. Numerous stores offered and showed wooden crafts. For my grandfather, my mother purchased a stylish walking cane. She bought my grandmother a woollen shawl from a bazaar shop. We ended our night with a light meal and walked back to the hotel.

Mashobra Village | Towards the end of our trip, we decided to go to Mashobra—a small village north of Shimla. It is popular for its apple orchards and a horticulture research facility. The village’s population was only around 900 people. They were friendly to tourists and held small businesses and shops to earn a living. We also visited Shimla airport and the Anadale grounds which have a helipad.

Our week-long trip to Shimla came to an end sooner than I expected. We took a car back to Delhi. I met new people and got to know about their experiences of living in small cities and hill stations. This trip was not just fun but also educational in many ways. I'll always cherish the memories I had of my trip to Shimla.

Manali Travelogue and Travel Stories – A lovely tour to Manali

Pradeep Dharmapalan

Why India is generally called ‘ Incredible India ’ because there are many places here which are miraculous and one of which is Manali. The place is famous for such extravagant picturesque charms and a place which we can acquire serenity is Himachal Pradesh. Manali is an absolutely astounding hill station located at a height of 2050m 6398ft on the Beas River in Himachal Pradesh. The destination offers spectacular views and it also serves as the getaway to the incredible land of Ladakh over Manali-Leh highway crossing Keylong, Sarchu and Darcha. This wonderful hill station is the initial point of numerous treks and journey to the higher mountain ranger. Manali is a popular tourism in India and no matter at what time you visit Manali because it’s cold throughout the year but yes I would suggest you to visit Manali in summer season as the climate is just perfect. If you love traveling and adventure so you should visit this place for a best experience of your life. Well, I started my journey to Manali from Delhi Railway Station. I boarded a Kalka Shatabdi to Chandigarh because there is no direct train from Delhi to Manali. On reaching Chandigarh, I hired a taxi to Manali which cost was around Rs 2000 and it took 7 hours to reach. On the way to Manali, I enjoyed a spectacular views of majestic mountains and later I stopped at a dhaba where I had delicious food. On reaching Manali, I checked in to my hotel and rested for a while. After some rest, I went out for a walk and I experienced the nature of walking on beautiful mountain roads. I had dinner and then spent the night in the hotel. I woke up in the morning with the rays of the sun, which was so beautiful. I had breakfast in my hotel and then I proceeded to see nearby attractions. On this day I decided to explore Mall road since Dussehra celebrations were on, and there were so much crowd in the market. Mall road is famous for shopping like clothes, handicrafts, wooden items, as well as for restaurant and cafes. Later, I head towards Naggar and this was really impressive place where I witness the stunning views of mountains. Naggar highlight was the stroll up to the olden Krishna mandir at Thava. The track passes over some dense pine aromatic forests with sights of far off heights. It takes 40 to 50 minutes approx. and it was the best part of my trip. Next, Tripura sundari temple too was remarkable. Next, I proceeded towards Jana and it’s a beautiful waterfall which is 11 km from Naggar. Here, I had a food and food is the main draw here. They served excellent Himachali stuff such as lingad subzi, rajma, kadhi, makka roti, and red rice. The place is worthy only because of the food. After that, I came back to the hotel for an overnight stay. Next day, I woke up and started my journey towards Solang Valley which was the excellent part of my trip. The solang Valley is located about 14 km from Manali and the place is generally famous for adventure activities like paragliding, skiing, zorbing, horse riding, and ice skating are very common here. I did paragliding which was cost around 3000 rupees for 15-20 minutes but it was off season rates. If you do in any festival season then it may cost around 5000 rupees. Apart from Paragliding there is one thing that you shouldn’t miss is the ropeway. You can purchase the tickets from the sky-Resort located here and I’m sure if you do this you would thank me later if you have no fear from heights: p. Okay, one thing you must carry a good camera or good phone with camera because to capture some amazing moments. Take selfies with the Himalayas. After the enjoyment in the evening I returned back to my Solan Valley hotel for comfortable night stay. Next day, I decided to explore Solang Village and waterfall so I proceed and witness the entire area around the village is crossed by the lovely waterfalls, rivers. The waterfall was alluring and the walk takes 1-1.5 hours one way. Another exciting walk was to the Lord Shiva temple and I visited this temple where I felt the complete positivity in my surroundings. Post dinner I came back to the hotel. On another day, I decided to go Dhundi and the stroll for Dhundi was a slightly hectic one. It was quite enjoyable but it was difficult for me to walk along the river and walking along the road also was not so good. So, I hired a mountain bike and it was good as I explored Dhundi throughout the day. This place offers marvelous views, plenty of streams and flowers of countless kinds. When I visited the road construction project was turned off and it was the best idea to take a mountain bike since I had lost my energy to explore the place. Before sunset I came back to my Solang Valley hotel.

On sixth day, I decided to go Rohtang pass and it took around 1 hours 30 minutes to reach. Snow covered, Rohtang Pass is a prominent sightseeing near Manali and that what I couldn’t skip. Stroll on the snow and eating hot maggi or sipping warm coffee was the best ever feeling for me. Here, I induldged in activities like skiing and it was the first time for me. If you are planning to go Rohtang Pass then you should start your journey by 4-4.30 am to avoid jams and also get the best views in the early morning light. After completion of the sightseeing I decided to go back Manali for a night stay.

On seventh day, I explored Hidimba Devi Temple which is surrounded by a cedar covered forest. It is a spiritual place where tourists come to gain religious solace. This temple is one of the most popular attraction of Manali. Next was the Tibetan Monastery and is well-known tourist attraction in Manali. It’s also a religious place which is the tibetan monastery and a very elegant place to visit in Manali. So, here my trip is completed and I covered all the best places. Next day, I packed my bags and moved towards the bus stand to go back home with lots of lovely memories.

Highlight of the trip – best experience was paragliding, skiing, Rohtang pass and Solang valley. I was served the best Himachali food at Jana. There was a man and he explained me the differences between Punjabi and Himachali cuisines.

Some recommendations from my side to you such as: Stay at the Hotel Iceland in Solang village area. To experience the best views you should stroll in between 6-9 am without wasting a time in breakfast and dressing up. Must visit Hidimba Devi temple and Tibetan Monastery. Shouldn’t skip adventure activities like skiing, ropeway, paragliding, zorbing, etc. Enjoy local cuisines of Manali. Must have hot maggi in Hill stations. Must explore Mall road and Old Manali to make your trip best. If you go Rohtang Pass then must leave for rohtang by 4-4.30 am. If you are in Manali then you should visit Nagar and stay here for a day at Naggar and explore Krishna temple. That’s all major recommendations from my side.

Manali Travel Blog 2023: Taste of the Spirited Peaks

Manali travel blog . Staying in Southern India, I was looking out to visit the northern peaks for quite sometime. And Manali was something of a dreamland for someone witnessing a part of the world’s highest mountain range.

The curvy roads that get slimmer as you move up to more deserted addresses. Quietness deafening (and frosty) at night but immediately lifts off when travelers from faraway places speak their warm stories before bed.

This place wasn’t my first thought considering the touristy hype. Yet for a first timer, it was quite an experience. Here’s all about my Manali travel blog.

Manali Travel Blog: The itinerary plan

Keeping budget in mind while balancing experiences like river rafting and the drive over Rohtang Pass, we came down priorities – Manali and Bir Billings for our almost 6 days itinerary.

We gave Manali 3 days which I felt was fairly sufficient to have a touch of the place. Picking aside the big-time adventures and treks, it leaves out the real town with its Old Manali market, cheap thrift stores in Vashisht, bridges over tiny streams, and steaming Siddu.

markets of manali

In the 3 days, neither did we miss on rafting in River Beas and trekking Jogini waterfalls, or spending a little more on a riverside cafe for an evening (it was expensive).

Factually speaking, we couldn’t let budget out of our sight mostly because we were visiting from Bangalore. Most visitors, who tend to be frequent, come from Chandigarh, Delhi, Punjab and Haryana.

“Hey, we’ve got vacation, let’s hit the road”… “where are we going?”… “How’s Manali? It’s a one-night drive anyhow”

If there’s a positive about Delhi, one can start to any northern part of India from Delhi. Visiting from the south, the budget is nothing short of a foreign trip. Flight expenses make a huge part of it. For first-timers with finite time, traveling gets expensive with sky-high touristy rates if we aren’t careful.

Manali Travel Blog: Our 3 days journey

Manali being the popular kid it is, a good move we took was prebooking our dormitory stay. I wished on trying cheaper remote hostels but we finally decided on sticking to the trusted comfort, Zostel.

Selling like hot cakes, we could only reserve one day at Zostel, Vashisht so we shifted to Zostel Old Manali for the other 2 days. Semi-sleeper buses to Manali are usually plentiful with more or less the same rate, yet we prebooked that as well.

We hadn’t planned on transport but a rough sketch was to rent out bikes. However, things turned out different. They always do, don’t they?

Flight to Delhi from Bangalore: A 6-hour delay

Manali budget trip: The trip started off perfectly – bags packed and squeezed into the taxi, dropped off right next to the trolley array. Air tickets to Delhi, check! The small hitch was when we entered the domestic departure, the 11:30 a.m. flight was cancelled. Not delayed, cancelled – due to a cyclone.

The officers at the baggage check-in couldn’t assure seats at the next flight to Delhi. One dude who later became a good pal along the trip thought out a strategy. He politely approached the head (or someone who looked it) and agreed to the next early evening (5:00 pm) flight.

premium lounge access bangalore airport

For compensation, he also requested the premium lounge access for the time period. Tagging in along, we were in for a treat for the following 5 hours. The buffet, comfortable seats, and even a mini library saved us a little on lunch.

We weren’t so worried as we had our Manali sleeper bus late at night. But inevitably, it was a rat race from the airport to the bus stop. Delhi’s heat was a cherry on top. We did somehow make it :)

Day 1: Vashisht, Jogini Falls, and Thrift Shops

Most overnight semi-sleepers from Delhi take an average of 14 hours to Manali. Taking the late night bus, we reached Manali around noon. With the local taxis hurdled as we alighted the bus, the idea of renting bikes went poof. Not to mention, the travel fatigue.

So we bargained our best with a taxi straight to our hostel in Vashisht Manali. It wasn’t a bad idea for 4 people.

We were only a group of 3 at first. But remember that smart dude with an idea at the Bangalore airport? All stars aligned and he came to Manali with us on the same bus and even had booked the same zostel booked for the evening! So he tagged along for the ride. We freshened up and went down the street for lunch.

Manali budget trip – Compared to Old Manali, Vashisht is way less touristy – something I loved about the place. The best part was the remote scenery.

Small houses on the banks of the river that flowed through the valley amidst peaks. From the Zostel, one could see the whole picture.

vashisht zostel manali

Added to it, the places to check out were in a walkable distance here.

Places to check out in Vashisht are:

  • Jogini Falls
  • Hot water spring
  • Vashisht temple
  • Thrift shops and cafes

Trekking Jogini Falls

Jogini Falls was nothing short of a small trek for a couple of hours. You can stay at the bottom and witness the amazing view of the cold waterfall far above in the cracks of the peak.

But the trek up is worth every step. The close-up of the painfully freezing water and to walk through it barefoot is something else. Most people naturally followed the others before them. It’s a sense of security I suppose.

As we walked a local lady covered in wrinkles, however, pointed at a remote route through trees where no one seemed to be going. We exchanged glances. I was in for an adventure.

Though with stops of hesitation as we found no one following behind or ahead, we made it to the same falls. And what a beauty it was! A large dog (or a wolf) tagged along and began drinking the freezing water from the large puddle of the falls.

So much for a natural landscape. Walking through the same puddle to the other side of the falls with shoes in hands, we made it to the other side. Alighting, we realized that the path down was the same one everyone were trying to go up from.

We were glad on listening to the sweet local lady :)

Thrift Stores for the evening

Manali budget trip – Hot water springs and Vashisht temple made up other parts of Vashisht. Our last stop for the day was the thrift stores down the narrow alleys of the locality. Himalayan handiworks, Kashmiri coats, and woollen accessories.

After some bargaining, we couldn’t help but get ourselves a warm jacket each. As for prices, we thought it expensive until we hit Mall Road. Vashisht, compared to Old Manali and Mall road, is way cheaper and definitely worth the visit for shopping.

rohtang pass, thrift stores manali

Not many people stay here thus keeping a local touch to the place. However, the local stores close in early evenings here.

Day 2: Rohtang Pass, Old Manali, and Mall Road

We’d called the same taxi dude from the previous day for Rohtang Pass, he was cute. Rohtang pass is part of the Pir Panjal range situated 51 km from Manali. Anyone driving over the pass needs to hold a permit.

Visiting in June, Rohtang was open to visitors with a moderate climate. The narrow roadways, snowcaps, and rocks slipping away makes the trip all the more exciting. A single breakdown ultimately results in a vehicle jam all the way down the foothills of the peak.

So we began around 5:30 in the morning and were quite lucky to not come across any breakdown. A large tank truck did get stuck in soft part of a road ahead but thank god it was resolved quick!

A large vehicle blocking the way means getting stuck on the road, explained the taxi driver. “Getting stuck” can mean anywhere from 4 hours or more than a day on Rohtang Pass. There’s no telling about it.

But was it worth it?

We stopped away from the crowds of skis and mountain bikes at an isolated spot. The valley before us, snow beneath our boots and sliding down the peaks as we climbed it was worth it all at 13,000 ft!

manali travel guide, rohtang pass snow

Atal Tunnel and Parottas

Alighting the peak, we stopped for brunch at a series of dhabas. Without breakfast before, we hogged on the hot parottas coming to the table. For a touristy place, the prices were quite affordable like any dhaba I’ve been to. Not to mention, quite delicious too!

The white snowcap perked on the brown-green peak, cold streams running down, in the backdrop added to the brunch view.

Exploring the road as we headed down the other side of the peak, I learned that this was the start point for getting to Spiti Valley upon making it down the curves from Rohtang Pass. The opposite road led to Sissu (Sisu Manali) and Atal tunnel where we headed. Atal tunnel was next.

Atal Tunnel didn’t offer much to see – it’s a tunnel afterall. But we did pass through it, the world’s longest highway tunnel named after our former Prime Minister, Atal Bihari Vajpayee.

At one end we struggled through curvy paths and congestion up a peak. The other was a smooth 9 km back to the start point. The build structure is something to ponder over.

Our next stop was Zostel in Old Manali, shifting our backpacks here from Vashisht zostel. Zostel in Old Manali is more on an edge through a farmland alley.

There isn’t a road connectivity – at least not for a car. But we couldn’t care less. Entering our dorm rooms, we sank into our beds for a good hour or two.

old manali streets, manali travel blog

For the evening, the walk to Old Manali’s markets as a long one across the Manalsu river (part of Beas later), Clubhouse road, and Manali Nature Park and then the Hadimba Devi Temple. Though the walk’s long, it’s best for the evenings.

Old Manali is where all the popular budget hostels exist. GoStops Manali, Madpackers Hostel , and all other inventive cozy names you can think of for traveler hostels lay here. It reminded a little of Arambol in Goa , a hippie culture.

For booking backpacker hostels in Manali, HostelWorld has a range of options for quite affordable rates. I’ve been using HostelWorld for sometime now and its reliable. Check out HostelWorld Manali accommodations here.

Manali Travel Blog: Mall Road

Our last stop at the end of our walk was the infamous Mall Road down from Old Manali’s accomodations. It’s best to visit this street at night for the best experience.

Being a tourist hotspot, the street is crowded every single night with tourists flocking in for shopping, dining, or simply taking a stroll. There are all sorts of stores here ranging from local handicraft stores, clothing, to electronics.

While the street looked lively and reminded me of Bangalore’s nightlife, it was purely touristy and nothing authentic of the place. Everything was expensive. Even the overpriced momo stalls tasted different than the local ones around Manali – all tuned to the tastes of tourists.

Neither are stall owners friendly here – I guess overtourism had its take on behaviour. A stroll through Mall Road is sweet for a change, watching people and kids with ice creams.

When staying in Old Manali, it’s best to walk here in the evening. Neither cars, nor bikes have enough spaces for parking which got frustrating for us the following day.

mall road, mall road blog

Day 3: River Rafting and Maggi

Manali budget trip. Final day was for river rafting. More than rafting in Kullu itself, we spent more time getting there and waiting. I had high hopes for rafting but was disappointed when we weren’t allowed to paddle.

All raft boats here were equipped with large paddles for the main paddler at the back while we only held tight in the front. Rafting in Dandeli months earlier with full control in our hands, this wasn’t all fun.

But touching water as we furthered, I realized how painful a fall could be – it was freezing . Every splash spew cold water piercing our skin while the boat slipped through rocks and gushes.

Under the sun yet shivering was one thing. Later the person at the back let us jump into the waters. I glanced at the others for one second, the next I plunged in. Boy, was it cold!

The raft lasted 30 minutes and we waited a while at the end point along shallow waters and small pebbles, talking with our paddler and a photographer who insisted on taking pictures.

Riding back, we were quite hungry while being hesitant with the budget for Manali trip. We’d spent a great deal rafting and even more on the GoPro pictures on the paddler’s head (they’re always unreasonably overpriced).

river beas rafting, kullu manali

So we stopped at the closest Maggi road stall we found for ‘lunch’. With a few stalls close by – we got pani puri, momos, and Siddu as well. The steaming siddus here again tasted very different from Mall road – and 3 times cheaper!

From Kullu, we thought of visiting the Kullu Naggar castle but I regret we decided not to at the end, it would have been amazing. The other thing to do in Kullu was paragliding, but we had Bir for it anyhow.

Manali travel Blog: Places we missed on

Manali travel blog. Like Kullu Naggar Castle, there were some other places I regret missing on. Museum of Himchal Culture and Folk art, numerous monasteries like the Himalayan Nyinmapa Buddhist monastery. I wish we’d time for Manali local sightseeing away from streets tailormade for tourists.

However, our trip to Manali was satisfactory. Manali changes through the year. Trip to Manali in April gets very different from Manali in December. For example, Solang Valley is ideal to visit in winter (December to February) for skiing.

Nevertheless, I didn’t regret not visiting Solang Valley as no skiing was available in June. Nor was snow in sight here when we passed by after Atal tunnel. For the next visit, considering a nearby village like Sethan, Sissu, or Jibhi rather than Manali is worth looking forward to.

Manali Budget Trip: Overall expense

Including our flight tickets and bus to Manali and Bir Billings was 30k. But to consider only Manali, we could’ve spent lesser on our stay. For safety’s sake, it was however worth the first time.

The semi-sleeper bus from Delhi was a flat Rs. 1400 per seat. With the classy riverside restaurants for dinner, a lot on cab, bike rental and additional expenses on snacks – it wasn’t superbudget friendly.

Including the accommodation (Rs. 800/night approx.), we each spent around Rs. 2500 per day on an average. Note that Rohtang Pass and rafting were expensive trips. For Rohtang Pass, enquire about the jacket rentals before booking because that’s where we got scammed by our driver (the nice guy).

We paid almost Rs. 700 per head at a stall he affiliated for the full-body jacket rental. Most sites I checked later on mention Rs. 250 per set. In overall, be aware of expenses in attraction spots beforehand – they’ll cost a big chunk.

That sums up my Manali travel blog. Hope you have a safe trip :)

Manali: A Complete Guide For The First Timers

manali-himachal-pradesh (2)

What is the first thing that comes to your mind when someone says Manali? Snow-capped mountains, swaying Oak and Deodar trees, gushing rivers and streets flooded with tourists. Yes, this is precisely how it is for any first-timer. But for a returning visitor, the city might act as a gateway to many new adventures.

Disclaimer – By the end of this article, you might want to pack your bags and leave. Therefore, I’ve tried to add all the essential details possible in this post so keep reading.

Manali has always been one of the popular towns in Himachal. However, its popularity soared sky-high after the 2013 release of Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani (YJHD), which was set in this picturesque town. I visited the city back in 2010. It was a five-day trip where I explored Manali along with Kullu. Manali is a town that you would want to visit again and again. Therefore, I hope to go back someday and stay for a longer time as there is so much more to explore. However, if you’re planning to visit Manali for the first time, here’s a list of things that you can do.

Table of Contents

Visit the Hidimba Devi Temple

hidimba-temple-manali

Located amidst the Cedar forest resides one of the oldest shrines in Manali, Dhungari Temple commonly known as Hidimba Devi Temple. Hidimba Devi is a mythological character from Mahabharata whom the locals worship as a deity. She is the wife of Bhim (one of the five Pandavas) and the mother of Ghatotkacha. The temple is built on a cave where Hidimba Devi performed her meditation. You will love the serenity of this place and its unique architecture.

Tip: Carry a binocular or your telephoto lens as you might spot a few Himalayan birds in the woods.

Location: Old Manali Road

Explore the Mall Road

Mall Road is one of the main attractions in Manali, flooded with tourists throughout the year. Located in the heart of Manali, Mall Road is a hub of quaint cafes, dhabas and shops selling souvenirs & woollen garments.

Tip: You can buy Kullu shawls and caps at a low price from Mall Road. All you need is good bargaining skills.

Pump up your adrenaline at Solang Valley

Solang Valley is a pristine valley residing 14 km northwest of Manali. You can stop by this place on the way to Rohtang Pass. This place is known for adrenaline gushing activities. However, it might vary depending on the season. Paragliding and Parachuting are a few best activities that you might want to do during the summer while Skiing during the winters. You can also roll yourself down the hill in a ball or drive an open jeep in the lush valley.

Cover yourself in the snow at Rohtang Pass

rohtang-pass-manali

Rohtang Pass is another favourite tourist spot that got featured in many famous Bollywood films like Jab We Met and YJHD. Located 51 km away from Manali and at an elevation of 3978 metres, this place remains covered in snow throughout the year. Make snow fairies and snowman, have a quick snowball fight or slide down the snowy hill on a sledge. Moreover, don’t forget to eat the mountain style Maggie and tea, without which your trip will be incomplete.

Manikaran Sahib Gurudwara

manikaran-sahib-gurudwara-kullu

Manikaran Sahib, located in Parvati Valley of Kullu district is a vital Hindu and Sikh pilgrimage spot that welcomes thousands of travellers every year. You can take a detour on your way back to Delhi and visit the Gurudwara. The Gurudwara also consists of hot springs that are said to have healing properties. While you’re here, don’t forget to explore the market next to the Gurudwara famous for woollen products and souvenirs.

Location: Hari Har Ghat, Manikaran Rd, Manikaran

Other interesting places and activities that you can do in Manali

river-rafting-manali

A quaint palace located 22 km from Manali is a beautiful blend of history and culture. You can take a detour and spend some time here exploring the temples and art galleries.

Vashisht Temple

Located in the sacred Vashisht village, the temple is dedicated to sage Vashisht who is the chief author of Mandala 7 of the Rigveda. Moreover, this place has many hot water springs that attract tourists.

River rafting

White water rafting in the Beas River is a must-do when in Manali. Unlike Rishikesh, you will not be rowing the raft a professional rafter will as the water current is high. All you have to do is sit back and enjoy the bumpy ride while you get splashed with chilled water.

River crossing

The river crossing is a fun yet challenging activity that will test your strength. All you have to do is traverse across the river on a rope using the monkey crawl technique. However, worry not, you will be under the supervision of a professional. Bhang and Aleo are two of the best spots in Manali to try out this activity.

#SwipeRightToTravel

Last year i travelled to two places -Manali and Kasol with my friends and it was a wonderful experience that i cant forget for the rest of my life. It was my first time with my friends as my i usually prefer to travel with my family. Talking about my kasol trip ,first of all kasol as all of us know is famous for its charas i.e MALANA cream and trust me its worth it..???? We reached kasol on christmas and the atmosphere there was very cheerful, we partied all night ???? and next day we headed towards manikaran , we found a gurudwara there and it is really a wonderful place ❤ they won't charge you for living , eating, all of them for free. So we stayed there for 2 days . after that we started headed towards barsheni gao and from there we treck about for hour and half to reach TOSH. Tosh has such an Awesome View ???? that can make you forget about all of your tensions in life , it is Surrounded by mountains and one can easily see and feel the beauty of mountains there. So we stayed there for one day and on next day we treckked for half an hour to reach Waterfalls there. We enjoyed the view, holding a cup of tea in hands ????., and there we met some of the israeli's who offer's Us Charas???? So we smoke with them and after that we decided to go back and came to kasol at the night, and on our last day of our trip we spend the whole day in Israeli's Cafe we drink, eat alot and after that we captured some of the beautiful scenes there ❤

So overall it was a wonderful experience that i will not forgot for the rest of my life , and this trip has inspired me alot to travel around the whole world and explore new places and which i surely will :)

The Ultimate 7 Day Manali Travel Itinerary

The Ultimate 7 Day Manali Travel Itinerary

Best of Manali in One Week

While MANALI was always famous for being the base point for some of the Best Treks in the Himalayas , such as the Hampta Pass Trek , Beas Kund Trek , Bhrigu Lake Trek among others and the starting point for the famous Manali – Leh Road Trip ; with the inauguration of Atal Tunnel , which has reduced the travel time by over 3-4 hours, and has now become the gateway to the Lahul Valley , Manali in general has once again become an attractive destinations for travellers, backpackers and road trippers from all over India. Not only that, Manali has also become a hub for Digital Nomads and is one of the best places to Work from Mountains.

This 7 Day Manali Travel Itinerary is NOT the conventional Manali Circuit that the tour companies offer, but rather a mix of all the best experiences that Manali has to offer, including –  Cafe Hopping in Old Manali | Trekking and Camping in the Himalayas | Road Tripping in the Himalayas and exploring quaint offbeat hamlets around Manali.

Also included in this Manali Travel Itinerary are accommodation recommendations, if you are wondering Where to Stay in Manali !

Day 1 – Reach Manali | Stay in Old Manali

Day 2 – Experience the charm of Old Manali

Day 3 – Road Trip to Atal Tunnel and beyond

Day 4 and 5 – Go on a Trek – Bhrigu Lake

Day 6 – head to hallan village | disconnect with the world.

Day 7 – Departure from Manali

Tips and Recommendations

7 day trip to manali – brief itinerary, share this:, the 7 day manali travel itinerary .

Reach Old Manali, check in to your Hotel or a Hostel or a Homestay, and If you are wondering where to stay in Old Manali , here are some of our recommendations :

Hostel : Alt Life Manali | Zostel Manali | The Hosteller Manali | YOLO Backpackers – Manali

Homestay : Orchard’s House – The Hidden Tribe | The Professor’s Hut | Drifter’s Inn

Hotel : Apple Country Resorts | The Orchard Greens Resort and Spa | Keekoo Manali

Once you have settled in, just take a walk around the area, and acquaint yourselves with the surroundings.

You might as well, take an auto or walk till the Mall road, and indulge in some shopping.

Also, if you are wondering how to Reach Manali? – The best and the most cost effective way to reach Manali is by getting on an overnight AC Volvo from Delhi or Chandigarh. Alternatively, you can just drive on your own, or if you are coming in a group, a private cab can also be an economical option.

Old Manali has a charm of its own, and that is something that can be experienced only by staying there, and wandering on the streets.

The best way is to start the day with a relaxed breakfast at Rocky’s Cafe . For this you’ll have to go all the way till Manu Temple.

After having a nice hearty breakfast, you can either choose to make Rocky’s Cafe your Workstation With a View, or can slowly start descending, taking your time, and checking out anything that catches your eye.

View from Rocky's Cafe Old Manali

Dining With a View

Your next step can be Renaissance for some delicious Pizzas or the Drifter’s Cafe for some Pizzas, Burgers or Pasta.

If getting a tattoo fancies you, you can get in touch with Veronica via her Instagram account where she goes by the name of Veronicas_Ink

If you are looking to buy some funky jewellery, or some Pahaadi style clothes, keep an eye out on the multiple shops selling such stuff in Old Manali.

As you further descend down, you will reach Evergreen Bakery . Stop here, and do try out some of the yummy sweets they sell. You might like to try out the Chocolate Macaroons or the Carrot Cake or anything else.

Next depending on what time it is, you can go to the river side, and soak in the quintessential Old Manali vibes.

Old Manali Manalsu River

River Manalsu flowing through Old Manali – The Quintessential Manali setting

You can even cross the river, and enjoy a stroll to Hadimba Temple.

While you are near Hadimba Temple, you might also want to check out Southern Souls , if you are craving some delicious South Indian food.

You can call it a day, whenever you feel tired, or when it starts to get dark.

Day 3 of this One Week Trip to Manali is reserved for a Road Trip to Lahul Valley via Atal Tunnel . Atal Tunnel aka Rohtang Tunnel, built under the Rohtang Pass, that took around 10 years to be fully operational, has become the most famous attraction for everyone who is visiting Manali.

View before entering Atal Tunnel from Manali

At a length of 9.02 kms, Atal Tunnel is the longest tunnel above 10,000 feet , and cuts the travel time between Manali and Leh by around 3-4 hours. You enter the tunnel in Manali and end up in the Lahul Valley . And the very fact that you can travel from Manali to Sissu in 15-20 minutes via the Atal Tunnel is what has turned Atal Tunnel into the most talked about attraction in and around Manali.

Under ideal conditions, one can go all the way till Baralacha La Pass and come back to Manali on the same day, however if you take your time, there are plenty of nooks and corners enroute Darcha, where you can spend time just enjoying the moment and the scenery.

Darcha

One can always take a cab, however to truly experience the thrill of riding through the Atal Tunnel and immersing yourself in the surroundings, go on a bike / scooty.

PS – There are plenty of places from where you can rent a 2 wheeler in Manali.

Deemed to be the prettiest grassland trek in Himachal, the Bhrigu Lake Trek is something that should definitely be on your radar, which is why I have added the Bhrigu Lake Trek in this 7 Day Manali Travel Itinerary.

Bhrigu lake trek manali

While the best time to do the trek is definitely between May and September , when it’s all green and the clouds are at your level, one can trek up to Bhrigu Lake practically any time of the year, subject to the weather conditions.

Please note that the temperature during summers hovers around 20-25 C in the daytime and falls to 5-7 C at night. In winter the temperature gets lower with 10-15 C around daytime and nearly 0 to -7 C at night. Almost half a year the lake remains frozen, and one can enjoy the sight of snow even during the early summer time.

Bhrigu Lake Trek is a Easy – Moderate level trek, and can be easily done in 2 days, provided it hasn’t snowed yet , as snow makes the trail more tricky and you need to be cautious and you ultimately end up taking more time

On Day 1 you trek for roughly 4-5 hours covering a distance of 6 kms from the starting point at Gulaba at an altitude of 9000 feet until the campsite at Rola Kholi, which is at an altitude of 12,500 feet.

Rola Kholi Campsite | Bhrigu Lake Trek | Manali 7 Day Travel Itinerary

On Day 2 you start early in the morning and start the 4-5 kms trek uphill to reach Bhrigu Lake from Rola Kholi. Ideally it should take you around 3-4 hours to reach Bhrigu Lake, which is at an altitude of 14,000 feet , while taking intermediate breaks enroute to snack on and to enjoy the mesmerising views of the mighty Himalayan Peaks including Deo Tibba and Hanuman Tibba.

A 30 – 45 minute stoppage at Bhrigu Lake should be more than enough for you to take it all in !

The Views enroute

On the way down, it shouldn’t take you more than 2 hours to reach back to the campsite Rola Kholi, where you have your brunch / lunch.

If you happen to go with any trek company, chances are that you’ll stay back at the campsite for the night, but we recommend you to start heading back to Gulaba by 2 – 3 PM max.

As it’s all downhill, you should be back to Gulaba by 6 PM, and you can go back to your hotel/hostel – take a relaxing hot shower, have a hearty meal, and have a good night’s sleep.

Yes, you will be stretching it out on Day 2 and will be walking for almost 16 kms, but trust me, it’s better than staying an extra night in the tents, and walking down on the 3rd day.

Alternatively, you can also check out the Lama Dugh Trek, if Bhrigu Lake Trek is not feasible.

A 45 minute – 1 hour  drive from Old Manali is Hallan Village – A quaint hamlet in the lap of Himalayas, away from the chaos of Manali. And in this quaint hamlet, you will find a couple of rustic home-stays and hostels,  with unparalleled views of the majestic Himalayas, that can be your new Workstation with a view .

If you are lucky and there are clouds in the sky, you will fall in love with the setting, as the skies in front of you will be a canvas dotted with clouds, and numerous colours during sunrise and sunset.

manali trip with friends essay

The best thing about spending the day in Hallan – 1 , is that there are no distractions, and you don’t have to go anywhere looking for food, meaning you can be at peace, and have your creative juices flowing.

Being away from the hustle bustle of city life and the crowd that Manali attracts , Hallan – 1 is without a doubt, one of the best places to be based out of during your Workation in Manali   as you can easily Disconnect wIth the World and Re-Connect with yourself.

As it’s the last day of this 7 Day Manali Travel Itinerary , you can either wake up early and catch one last sunrise in paradise or can take it slow and wake up whenever you do without having to worry about the alarm.

Take in the last few moments of the bliss, soak it all in, and post lunch head back to the bus stop and take the bus to Chandigarh / Delhi.

View this post on Instagram A post shared by Arnav Mathur (@theetlrblog)

#1 If you don’t want to do a long trek such as Bhrigu Lake Trek or Lama Dugh, you can opt for shorter hikes around Manali. And the ones that I’ll recommend are a hike up to Jogni Waterfalls , and a hike to Manali Wildlife Sanctuary , which is one of Manali’s Hidden Wonders.

#2 If you are a solo traveller, I highly recommend you to check into one of the hostels in Old Manali such as The Hosteller Manali | YOLO Backpackers – Manali | Alt Life Manali | Zostel Manali   , so that you can interact and meet fellow travellers and plan for the activities listed in this 7 Day Manali Travel Itinerary, together. It’ll end up being more economical.

#3 If time permits, and you can extend your stay, you might also want to check out some of these Boutique Home-stays in and around Manali such Zostel Homes Shuru | Mid Orchard Cottage | Zostel Homes Rumsu from where you can Work from Mountains as well.

Day 4 and 5 – Go on a Trek – Bhrigu Lake / Lama Dugh

Day 6 – Head to Hallan – 1 Village | Disconnect with the World

I hope you enjoyed going through this 7 Day Manali Travel Itinerary , and found it as a useful Travel Resource for your One Week Trip to Manali. Don’t forget to Pin this Manali Travel Guide, for your future trip.
