Cookie Display Ideas for Parties
Cookie Charcuterie: Charcuterie boards aren’t just for savory food. They can be filled with a delightful variety of sweets like cookies. For the most impact focus on a variety of tastes and textures. To get started just grab a beautiful wooden platter or even a slate cheese board. Then, artfully arrange a selection of cookies, like buttery shortbreads, crunchy biscotti, and chewy macarons.
Cookie Grazing Board: I love creating cookie grazing boards for a fun and tasty treat! To make one, start with a rustic wooden serving platter or a classic wooden cutting board, then arrange an assortment of your favorite cookies, like chocolate chip, oatmeal raisin, and snickerdoodles. Try adding a few savory snacks like pistachios or fruit-studded cheese for a striking contrast.
Cookie Toppings Corner: An interactive party idea I love is a cookie toppings bar. Begin by choosing a variety of cookies. Gather different toppings like frostings, sprinkles, nuts, and even fresh fruit. Then, set up a designated area. Lay down parchment paper and arrange the cookies and toppings for everyone to enjoy!
Cookie Exchange Party: A fun way to fill your cookie boxes for the holidays is to invite a group of cookie bakers to share their creations. Each Baker brings a designated amount of cookies that you can display using assorted platters and plates. Be sure to provide decorative boxes or bags for guests to pack their chosen treats.
Cookie Display Ideas that Focus on Packaging

How to create a festive cookie plate
The most delicious kind of gift-giving.
This time of year is all about giving. And while I can’t tell you which present to buy for a picky parent or finicky sibling, I do know one gift that always fits …
Cookies!
Sharing a beautiful cookie plate that you’ve crafted with love and care can be one of the most heartwarming (and delicious) activities to partake in this month.
Especially this year, when holiday parties are on hold, we can remind our loved ones how much we care by dropping off a plate of their favorite cookies to enjoy all week long.
Any homemade treat will be received with joy by a friend or neighbor, whether it’s a simple batch of Easy Peanut Butter Cookies or elaborately decorated sugar cookies. But if you want to take your cookie plate to the next level this season, we’ve got some advice on crafting your best one yet.
1) Understand what makes a great cookie plate
When building a cookie plate, your primary goal is to create something that:
- Looks visually stunning
- Appeals to different palates
- Most importantly, tastes amazing!
So keep these objectives in mind as you plan out your plate and select the recipes you're going to bake. Ask yourself questions like which cookies will look good together? Do I have something that appeals to both chocolate-lovers and gingerbread-devotees?
And the biggest question of all: are each of these recipes absolutely delicious? (If the answer to this last question is yes, you can be guaranteed a successful cookie plate.)
2) Include cookies that are seasonal and nostalgic
This time of year is shaped by memories and traditions that stretch back years. So it’s the perfect opportunity to bake up classic cookies that represent the season.
If you’re baking cookies for your family, incorporate any recipes full of your own traditions, like the Shortbread Grandma used to make or Dad’s favorite Snickerdoodles .
Including cookies full of seasonal flavors is another great way to capture the spirit of the holidays. Spiced Chocolate Molasses Buttons are full of rich, cozy molasses flavor, while the Gingersnaps above have plenty of warming spices like cloves and ginger.
3) Focus on variety
The beauty of a cookie plate is that you get to share a bunch of different recipes instead of sticking to just one batch of the same cookie. So use that to your advantage and showcase as much variety as possible.
Think about all the different elements to play around with, such as:
By incorporating each of these factors, you’ll create a cookie plate that’s exciting and unexpected. Not to mention, it will look gorgeous with so many different cookies cozied up next to each other.
For instance, Classic Pizzelle offer a unique pattern that will stand out against log-shaped Pumpkin Biscotti , while Jam Blossoms provide a nice visual contrast with their vibrant bursts of color.
Or you can include the sunny, bright taste of Lemon Snowball Cookies alongside richly flavored Chocolate Gingerbread Cookies . (Just be careful about cookies with extra strong flavor, like peppermint , as these can sometimes perfume the cookies around them. Consider waiting to add strongly flavored cookies to your plate until just before serving or gifting.)
When it comes to assembling everything together, try pairing gooey cookies next to crunchy ones, and stamped ones next to rolled ones. With so much variety, your plate will look amazing. And think of how much fun a loved one will have discovering all the different delights laid out for them!
Baker’s tip: Baking so many different recipes can be a lot of work, so start early and stock up your freezer with cookie dough or even fully baked cookies. That way you can break down the work across days and simply bake or defrost cookies when you’re ready to assemble your plate. And if you don't want a ton of leftover cookies, we have tips on reducing a recipe .
4) Add allergen-friendly options
Make sure everyone can partake in the cookie fun by ensuring you serve some allergen-friendly options on your plate.
If you know the person you’re gifting your cookies to has a specific dietary restriction, you can customize your entire plate accordingly. Meanwhile, if your plate is being gifted through a cookie exchange, served in another home, or shared with a friend’s family, it’s good to bake a few recipes that are vegan, nut-free, and/or gluten-free to ensure everyone will be able to enjoy.
For example, these nut-free Vegan Salted Chocolate Chip Cookies can easily be made gluten-free by substituting Gluten-Free Measure for Measure Flour , making them an excellent allergen-friendly option.
Note: If someone has a strong sensitivity to gluten, consider putting together a cookie plate that's entirely gluten-free. See our recipe site for plenty of options, or consider substituting Measure for Measure Flour into your all favorite recipes.
And make sure to include a label or note with information on which cookies are which! If you’re artistically inclined, you can even have fun drawing up a little index with illustrations of the different cookies and their corresponding descriptions.
5) Dress things up
To make your plate even more festive, add decorative flourishes like ribbons, bows, and tags full of holiday spirit.
When it comes to the plate itself, you can choose one that’s holiday-themed for maximum cheer, or a minimalist, neutrally colored platter that allows your cookies to shine. To arrange your cookies on the plate, try nestling them into festive cupcake liners so they stay neatly arranged.
If you’re going to be transporting your plate, you can slide it into a Baker’s Bread Bag , which is easier to use than fussing with plastic wrap, then tie it with some ribbon or Red and White Baker’s Twine for a decorative finishing touch.
Finally, use a holiday tag like our Christmas Village Gift Tags to write a festive note and wish season’s greetings to the lucky person who'll be enjoying your cookies.
6) Gift with an extra treat
'Tis the season of giving, so serve an extra little gift alongside your cookies plate for an added dose of holiday cheer.
A batch of hot chocolate mix makes the perfect addition to your gift — imagine your loved one enjoying a homemade cookie alongside a steaming cup of hot chocolate by the fire. There might not be a better gift you can bestow all season!
Baking up season's greetings
Cookie plates are a wonderful way to flex your creative muscles while also making a homemade gift that's sure to bring a smile to someone's face. Use it as an opportunity to try out new recipes and recreate classic favorites, experiencing all the different possibilities that cookie baking can offer. And at the end of the day, put it all together into a stunning gift that looks delightful and tastes even better.

Today, 12/5, I had occasion to shop on line with King Arthur and was SO pleased with the way the shopping went. There were no interruptions in my hold spots, my place didn't lose itself to something else as some do, the checkout could not have been smoother, and of course, all of the wonderful items King Arthur has always makes me want to overspend. It was a satisfying, honestly relaxing shopping trip - which doesn't happen on too many other on line companies. You all are to be commended for having a system that works this smoothly and cleanly. Actually, I don't think there's anyone else who does it as well as you. Thank you is quite inadequate.

12 Clever Ways to Gift-Wrap Your Christmas Cookies
Make your homemade cookies look even more impressive with these creative cookie wrapping ideas.
Zee is a former associate digital editor for MarthaStewart.com.
Your favorite holiday cookie recipe calls for extra love, so why not put lots of care into the batch's gift wrapping , too? After all, holiday cookies are a fantastic present for people you interact with on a daily basis—think friends, co-workers, teachers, and neighbors.
From snickerdoodles and shortbread to biscotti and thumbprints, baking is only half the fun when gifting cookies. Presentation is key; using simple crafting skills, you can make your edible gift feel that much more special when you dress it up in packaging that makes use of seasonal motifs.
Using cellophane wrappers, decorated gift boxes, and more, our holiday cookie packaging ideas will give you all the inspiration you're looking for this season.
Icicle Treat Bags
The icy color palette of these cone-shaped treat bags show chocolate, powdered, or brightly decorated cookies at their best—and the cellophane bag inside keeps your treats fresh. Adorn each with a name tag to further personalize the gift.
Pine Ribbon Gift Box
Give a plain box a seasonal makeover with fresh pine sourced from your own backyard. Arrange the leaves in a small ring and glue together the stems before securing the delicate wreath with ribbon.
Satin Bow Cookie Gift Box
These charming packages of holiday cookies are like a woodland fantasy in each box. To keep the cookies from sticking, we sandwiched each between layers of waxed kraft paper. Fine wood shavings protect the cookies from any breakage. Embellish the outside of the boxes with your choice of wrapping paper and your own adornments. Here, we use a graphic tree cutout to accompany the satin ribbon.
Christmas Cookie Crackers Set
Stack this year's holiday cookies and sweets inside store-bought clear tubes. At under $1 each, they're more affordable than tins or plastic containers; they're also sturdier in transit than cellophane wrapping. Finish them with our custom clip art to secure the boxes by covering the tube's end caps.
Statement Crepe Wrap
Make a statement with your wrapping by placing your cookies in a simple box and covering it with gold crepe paper. For an extra festive touch, cinch the paper on both ends with a fabric Christmas lights garland.
This clever wrapping technique is like two presents in one. Keep the cookies secure by placing them in a box then wrapping it with a beautiful printed linen. Your giftee won't just be getting a delicious treat—they'll also receive a stunning kitchen towel.
Town House Gift Boxes
Quaint town house boxes are a creative way to package " lebkuchen ," a type of cookie that the German town of Nuremberg has been famous for since the late 1300s. Create a custom sleeve that slips over a box filled with cookies.
Mix-and-Match Cookie Tins
A mixed cookie tin is a guaranteed crowd-pleaser. Line the bottom and sides of a square or rectangular airtight tin with corrugated paper. Fold short lengths in half for dividers. Then, envelop your cookies in tissue paper, buffer them with corrugated paper tubes, and protect them using accordion folds of red paper. You can also tie a short stack of cookies with baker's twine.
Cellophane-Wrapped Cookie Sleeve
Treats as pretty as home-baked cookies shouldn't be hidden in paper or cardboard. Here, neat rows of chocolate-espresso wafers and orange-ginger rounds are rolled in cellophane, and the ends are finished with ribbons.
Cookie Jars
Show off your beautiful Christmas cookies in clear jars with festive lids. After all, who would want to hide these palmiers (a classic French treat that's sometimes called palm leaves) in a closed box? For cookies that are shapely and beautiful all on their own, up-cycle a mason jar instead.
Holiday Cookie Mailing Tubes
Just the right shape for mailing (or hand-delivering) cookies, bright-colored cardboard tubes look even more festive when outfitted in red and white to mimic the season's best candy canes. Nail the look by cutting strips of adhesive paper in different widths with a utility knife on a straightedge; then, wrap the strips of adhesive paper around your mailing tubes. Wrap and pack your cookies in decorative tissue paper before slipping them into the tube.
Kitchen Molds
Kitchen molds make attractive gift containers, and they serve the recipient well long after the cookies are eaten. Here, pudding molds lined with parchment make excellent vessels for soft cookies.

The Ultimate Christmas Cookie Box + 30 Recipes
Nothing says the holidays more than Christmas cookies, and cookie boxes are a fun, beautiful way to showcase them! This Christmas cookie box is filled with tried and true cookie recipes that capture the season perfectly in a show stopping presentation that’s perfect for parties, potlucks and gifts!
Baking was something that my mom and I did together a lot when I was growing up. It was always from scratch, so I never knew any other way.
At Christmas time my mom pulled out all the stops, baking an endless variety of quick breads, cookies and no-bake treats alike to give to family and friends.
People looked forward to receiving my mom’s homemade gifts every year….I could tell by the way their faces would light up when she presented them to people.
There truly isn’t anything more special than a homemade gift is there?
My mom’s tradition left a lasting impression on me, and I started my own several years ago. It’s simply not Christmas if I don’t bake endless amounts of cookies, candies, etc. and assemble them in pretty cookie boxes for loved ones.
This Christmas cookie box is an ode to my mom, and I’m so glad that she passed the baking torch to me. Baking brings me so much joy, and it truly takes me back to my childhood. 🙂
Tips for the perfect cookie gift box
There’s nothing more perfect for the holidays than show stopping Christmas cookie boxes filled with an array cookies, candy and festive decorations.
The good news is that they’re extremely easy to put together with just a bit of planning, and it’s even quite fun with these easy tips!
Step 1: Choose your recipes .
Whether it’s 3 recipes or 10 recipes, this will help you determine what size box(es) to purchase. They can be as big or small as you choose!
Choose a variety of recipes that will provide an assortment of colors, flavors and textures. If time is scarce, be sure to keep time consuming recipes like sugar cookies and gingerbread cookies to a minimum. I love incorporating some easy no-bake recipes like rocky road candy and peanut butter fudge , bar desserts like seven layer magic cookie bars and peppermint brownies , and even a few store bought items like candy canes or Hershey’s kisses in pretty foil wrappers.
Step 2: Choose your boxes.
The wood supply organizer that I used for this box is perfect for holiday gatherings or potlucks as there is plenty of room for a wide variety of treats. These smaller Christmas cookie boxes are perfect to package cookies to give as gifts, and they even include baking twine. Use parchment paper to line your boxes or layer between cookies as needed, or baking cups or cardboard ornament dividers may be used to separate candy, etc. If you plan to ship cookies, decorative tins are your best bet to keep cookies fresh and intact!
Step 3: Select decorations and materials.
Pretty decorations and materials will make your box of cookies next level. I used mini pine cones , mini glass ornaments and baking twine , and don’t forget the pretty bows and tags for packaging!
Step 4: Determine what equipment you need .
Baking sheets , mixing bowls , a rolling pin , hand mixer , and cookie cutters are just a few examples of what you’ll need to prepare a variety of cookies, etc.
Be sure to read each recipe over carefully to make sure that you have all of the necessary equipment.
Step 5: Write a shopping list .
Make a list and check it twice! Bringing a list to the store with you will ensure that you don’t forget any of the ingredients that you need to prepare each recipe that you plan to make.
Step 6: Plan your schedule .
Determine when you will prepare your recipes, keeping in mind when you will package them into boxes for delivery or shipping. Remember that cookie dough may be made up to a few days in advance, then you can bake them when you’re ready. I often decorate cookies the day after I bake them if I’m pressed for time.
You can also get started earlier in the month and freeze cookies (prior to decorating of course). Simply thaw a day before you plan to assemble your boxes!

Instructions
Choose your recipes..
- Whether it's 3 recipes or 10 recipes, this will help you determine what size box(es) to purchase. They can be as big or small as you choose! Choose a variety of recipes that will provide an assortment of colors, flavors and textures. If time is scarce, be sure to keep time consuming recipes like sugar cookies and gingerbread cookies to a minimum. I love incorporating some easy no-bake recipes like rocky road candy and peanut butter fudge , bar desserts like seven layer magic cookie bars and peppermint brownies , and even a few store bought items like candy canes or Hershey's kisses in pretty foil wrappers.
Choose your boxes .
- The wood supply organizer that I used for this box is perfect for holiday gatherings or potlucks as there is plenty of room for a wide variety of treats (see the link in the equipment section above!). Smaller Christmas cookie boxes, tins or large plates with cellophane are perfect to package cookies to give as gifts. Use parchment paper to line your boxes or layer between cookies as needed, or baking cups may be used to separate candy, etc. If you plan to ship cookies, decorative tins are your best bet to keep cookies fresh and intact!
Select decorations and materials .
- Pretty decorations and materials will make your box of cookies next level. I used mini pine cones, mini glass ornaments and baking twine, and don't forget the pretty bows and tags for packaging!
Determine what equipment you need .
- Baking sheets , mixing bowls, a rolling pin , hand mixer and cookie cutters are examples of what you'll need to prepare a variety of cookies, etc. Be sure to read each recipe over carefully to make sure that you have all of the necessary equipment.
Write a shopping list .
- Make a list and check it twice! Bringing a list to the store with you will ensure that you don't forget any of the ingredients that you need to prepare each recipe that you plan to make.
Plan your schedule .
- Determine when you will prepare your recipes, keeping in mind when you will package them into boxes for delivery or shipping. Remember that cookie dough may be made up to a few days in advance, then you can bake them when you're ready. I often decorate cookies the day after I bake them if I'm pressed for time. You can also get started earlier in the month and freeze cookies (prior to decorating of course). Simply thaw a day before you plan to assemble your boxes!
- Once the cookies have been baked, store in an air tight container or zip top bag at room temperature with parchment or waxed paper between cookies as needed until you’re ready to assemble your packages.
- The freezer is your friend! You can get started baking earlier in the month and freeze cookies in zip top freezer bags and thaw when you’re ready to assemble your cookie gift boxes. For sugar and gingerbread cookies, freeze after baking, then thaw and decorate.

20+ Pretty Cookie Packaging Ideas
Part of the fun of handmade gifts are the unique touches that make them special. Packaging is a very important part of the presentation. I’ve put together twenty fun cookie packaging ideas from a variety of resources. I love each and every one of them and there is something for every style and budget. I hope you’ll try a few with your own cookie creations.
I found this beautiful cookie assortment assortment on at The Black Apple . They are packaged in pre-made boxes from the craft store. You can find similar boxes HERE .
$1 Jars from Dollar Tree . I’ve found three different varieties, the flip top version being my favorite for cookie gifts. Dollar Tree seems to only carry these around the holiday season, so keep your eyes open after Thanksgiving and be sure to pick a few up. They are very handy to have around.
I love this cookie favor bunting I found on 100 Layer Cake Blog . I made up the name, but in any case, what a wonderful idea! You can find kraft paper treat bags like the ones above, HERE .
I thought these sewn paper candy pouches from Peppermint Plum would work just as well to package cookies. Just wrap a single cookie in waxed paper before sewing it inside. It would be especially fun to sew around the shape of the cookie inside. I can imagine so many versions of this idea…stamped, hand decorated by my kids…the possibilities are endless!
I also fell in love with these simple cookie envelopes from Martha Stewart . You can find templates for the second version HERE . Of course, it’s Martha, are you surprised? Turns out she has more cookie packaging ideas than I do cookie cutters!
If you want to stay on a budget, try these paper plate baskets from Sarah Hearts . Use pretty washi tape to make them extra special!
If you’re looking for tips on pretty Christmas cookie packaging, head on over to Glorious Treats for tips on perfectly presented cookies like these!
I saw this dressed up jar on Anna and Blue Paperie and I knew it would be perfect filled with Christmas cookies. All you need are cupcake liners, ribbon, and her beautiful printables to create a beautiful jar just like this one.
This idea from The Essential Packaging Store Blog is one of my personal favorites. Use a scrapbooking edger to dress up simple glassine bags .
Here’s another idea from Country Living that uses cupcake liners and ribbon to dress up a simple cookie treat. Attach a card with your favorite recipe {or mine} to make it an EXTRA special treat!
Tea and cookies, one of life’s simplest pleasures was the thought behind this packaging idea from Shopgirl. I am already looking forward to a year of collecting cast off tea cups so I can use this idea myself next year.
I also love the idea of re-using disposable household items. This birch branch is actually a Pringle’s can that Gracie, from Sense and Simplicity , covered with scrapbook paper. For those of you worried about chip residue, wipe the container clean with a damp rag and soapy water, then air dry. Better yet, fill them with compost cookies as my friend Laura suggested and it’s perfectly appropriate for them to end up in a potato chip can.
This idea from Country Living is another that will have me scouring thrift stores and garage sales throughout the year. The only thing better than getting cookies is a fun vintage baking pan to go along with them. Besides that, they make GREAT photo props!
This sweet bag from my friend Mique at 30 Handmade Days comes complete with color palette and thoughtful saying. Just print onto simple kraft bags and tie with twine from The Twinery .
This idea from Martha Stewart may very well be my favorite of all, but I am pretty partial to glassware. Use decorative dishes {old or new} covered with cellophane as packaging for pretty cookie gifts.
These handmade petal boxes from Homespun Threads would be perfect for packaging cookies. Click HERE for a free template. If you need a smaller version you can find one HERE .
I used this tutorial from Adelyn Stone to dress up plain old throwaway jars for my gingerbread playdough. It would also work great for cookies. The things you can do with Mod Podge, right? Perfectly pretty and *almost* free.
I like this idea because the little scrap of yarn reminded me of Mom. I think she would like these. See the how-to and a recipe for “Grammy’s BEAUTIFUL Swedish pastries” at The Purl Bee .
I love the idea of using simple paper bags, like THESE from The Layer Cake Shop to wrap cookies. Simple but beautiful without a lot of fuss.
And another fave…use old tins to package your holiday cookie gifts as suggested by Country Living .
Or better yet…if you can’t find vintage tins, spray paint thrift store finds in fun colors or even with chalkboard paint as suggested by Cynthia Shaffer . You can also use Martha’s doily templates to dress up tired old tins.
That ought to be enough to keep you busy for days, but just in case I have a few more fun links to share…
- Here is a fun DIY cookie box tutorial from Inking Out of the Box
- If you need quality boxes for a GREAT price, check out BRP Box Shop . I buy all my boxes here. They have a great selection, service, free shipping, and will also send samples, so you can try before you buy.
- I’m really loving Paperjack’s Paper Ribbon store on ETSY. It is a simple touch that goes a long way in dressing up cookie packaging.
- If you’re planning on shipping cookies, learn all my best tips HERE .
- If you are still not sure what to wrap up, never fear. Here are 100 of the hottest holiday cookie recipes from myrecipes.com . They had me at chai tea eggnog cookies …
If you have seen any other unforgettable packaging ideas OR recipes, feel free to share. Christmas is right around the corner. Only ten short days to do all of the last minute shopping, baking, and the most important thing, spending time with the ones you love. No pressure or anything!
As for me, I’ll be spending the weekend “in town” {if you aren’t from the boonies that means the closest city will Target, Starbucks and a mall} picking up the last few items that I couldn’t find on Amazon. Wish me luck!
Happy Holidays everyone!
Such cute ideas! I love the sewn pouch but it looks really hard!
Can’t wait to try your recipes – they look and sound absolutely mouthwatering!
I am really looking forward to exploring the great sites where you found these cute ideas! Perfect post for this week – thank you!
These are fantastic ideas! I love using paper doilies to make the packaging pretty, oh my chai tea eggnog cookies…well I shall make those..if I can get passed not drinking the eggnog first. Merry Christmas!
I love them all, I would never have thought of most of them. And I love how inexspensive they are.

Christmas Cookie Packaging Ideas
Alright my friends, with the holiday season just around the corner (and you know it is), it’s time to talk about Christmas cookies and some fantastic cookie packaging ideas.
As we all know, the best way to spread joy and love during the holidays is by baking a batch (or 12) of your favorite Christmas cookies and sharing them with friends and family near and far.
But there’s more to it than just baking all those mouthwatering cookies; you’ve got to package them up beautifully annnnd ensure they reach their destination in one piece, right?
Now, Let’s Go Over Some Cookie Packaging Ideas
1. selecting the right containers.
The first step in the cookie packaging process is choosing the perfect container. Your options are as diverse as your cookie recipes, so let’s explore a few good ones:
a. Decorative Tins: These classic containers exude a vintage charm and are perfect for gifting. You can find tins in various shapes and sizes, which means you can match the tin to the occasion. Plus, they’re reusable!
b. Clear Cellophane Bags: For a simple yet elegant presentation, clear cellophane bags are a popular choice. Place your cookies inside, tie the top with a festive ribbon, and let your cookies peek through – it’s an instant visual delight!
c. Mason Jars: Mason jars are not just for jams and pickles. They make adorable cookie containers too. Layer your cookies neatly for a visually appealing display.
d. Cookie Boxes: If you’re sending cookies as a gift, consider sturdy cookie boxes. They come in various sizes, and some even have festive designs.
e. Decorative Plates or Platters: For an eco-friendly and elegant option, consider arranging your cookies on decorative plates or platters. Wrap them in plastic wrap or cellophane and secure with a bow or ribbon.
2. Making Them Look Pretty
Once you’ve chosen your container, it’s time to make your cookies look like they belong on the pages of a gourmet magazine:
a. Colorful Ribbons: A colorful ribbon can instantly jazz up any cookie packaging. Choose ribbons that complement your cookies or reflect the festive theme.
b. Personalized Tags: Add a special touch by attaching personalized tags with a heartwarming message. These tags can include the recipient’s name or a holiday greeting.
c. Window Boxes: If you’re using cookie boxes, go for those with a clear window. The peekaboo effect will make your cookies look enticing.
d. Themed Decorations: Tailor your packaging to the season. Use holly, mistletoe, or miniature ornaments to decorate your containers.
e. Themed Wrapping Paper: Wrap your cookie containers in festive holiday-themed wrapping paper to set the tone.
3. Ensuring Safe Shipping
If you’re planning to send your cookies to loved ones who are miles away, you want them to arrive intact. Here’s how to ensure a safe journey:
a. Sturdy Packaging: Invest in sturdy shipping boxes or corrugated boxes to protect your cookie containers. If you’re shipping several containers, consider using a larger box with sufficient padding.
b. Bubble Wrap and Packing Peanuts: Line your shipping box with bubble wrap and packing peanuts to create a protective cushion for your cookies. Make sure there’s enough padding between each container.
c. Individual Packaging: If you’re sending an assortment of cookies with varying textures and flavors, consider individually wrapping or sealing each type of cookie in its own packaging. This prevents flavors from mixing and maintains the quality.
d. “Fragile” Label: Label your package as “Fragile” to alert the carriers to handle it with care.
e. Expedited Shipping: Choose expedited shipping methods, especially if you’re sending perishable cookies. The sooner they reach their destination, the fresher they’ll be.
4. Recipe Ideas
Now for my favorite part, let’s talk cookie ideas! Here are a few of my favorite Christmas cookies that are perfect for packaging and gifting:
a. Cut-out Sugar Cookies: These can be cut into festive shapes and decorated with buttercream or royal icing. Place them in a clear cellophane bag, tie with a colorful ribbon, and you have a classic Christmas gift.
b. Gingersnap Cookies: Nothing says Christmas like gingerbread flavored cookies. Arrange them on a holiday-themed plate or in a decorative tin.
c. Chocolate Crinkle Cookies: These cracked chocolatey cookies can be layered in a mason jar, creating a beautiful and tasty gift.
d. Peanut Butter Kiss Cookies: Pack these cookies in a tin or cellophane bag, adding a few extra “kisses” for a festive touch.
e. Snowball Cookies: These round, powdered sugar-covered cookies look stunning in a clear container or mason jar.
Remember, the joy of Christmas cookies goes way beyond their delicious taste. The care and love you put into baking, packaging, and gifting them makes the holiday season even more special.
So, whether you’re sharing them with friends and family or sending them as thoughtful gifts, embrace the art of cookie packaging and let your cookies spread the holiday cheer. Happy baking my friends!

Christmas Cookie Display Ideas
If you know me, then you know I love to bake. And Christmas cookies are my absolutely favorite thing to make! I am all about a good Christmas sugar cookie. So I thought today it would be fun to share all my Christmas cookie display ideas too.
Not only do I love baking homemade cookies, but I also love putting them on a display too. That way, if you’re hosting this holiday season, you have plenty of ideas on how to display all kinds of different cookies this year.
Or, if you want to specifically host a Christmas cookie exchange, I think these ideas would be just perfect for that! Who wouldn’t want to go home with a variety of holiday cookies along with cookie recipes to go with them too?!
And, even if you want to use store bought cookies to make it a little easier on you this year, you could still use all these display ideas for those as well! So keep on reading for some great Christmas cookie inspiration!
This post also contains affiliate links, which means I make a small commission off anything you purchase through here, at no additional cost to you. Please read my full disclosure policy for more details.
Displaying Cut-Out Cookies
As I mentioned above, sugar cutout cookies are my absolute favorite kind of Christmas cookie! I mean does it get any better than sugar cookies topped off with royal icing?! I think not.
And I think these cookies are so easy to display because they are just so beautiful on their own. Each one is a little work of art, and they all look perfect displayed on a cookie platter or serving tray!
I also love how you can make these cookies to your own color scheme too. Whether you want iced red and green traditional cookies, or something a little more modern, the choice is yours! Depending on the size of your cookie shapes, you can decide just how to line them up on a display table or stand.
My trick is to save the really pretty iced cookies and place them on the very top of your cookie board. That way, everyone will see those first and it makes for a killer display. You can also display these cookies at varying heights, placing some on a tray and some elevated up on some cake stands too!
And cut-out cookies aren’t just for Christmas! I make these for Easter and even Halloween too! You can really make them anytime of the year!
Displaying Gingerbread Cookies
Another one of my favorite Christmas cookies to make are homemade gingerbread cookies! Again, you can ice and decorate these to whatever your heart desires! I also love displaying these cookies next to a gingerbread house! How fun is that?!
If I have gingerbread houses made, I usually display them on my bar in the kitchen. So then, it is easy to add in a tray full of yummy gingerbread cookies next to them too. That way, you can easily snag one (or two) when you’re walking by.
And here’s a tip, if you already have your cookies displayed on a tray and don’t want to move them into an airtight container just yet, then simply place a sheet of plastic wrap on top. It’s a great way to have everything displayed and ready to go (especially if you’re hosting). And you can easily peel the plastic wrap off right before your guest arrive too.
I have a great recipe for gingerbread cookies and even more cookies that I shared a few years ago on my blog. Be sure to check out My Top 5 Christmas Cookies That I Bake Every Year too!
Christmas Cookie Display Accessories
There are a number of different things I like to display along with the variety of cookies I make. For example, I like to display some faux candy canes when featuring my chocolate fudge cookies with candy cane buttercream! It goes hand in hand!
But also, I love to display non food related items too. Like for example, I will have just a tray full of vintage goodies styled next to a plate full of cookies. Or I will display a vintage rolling pin with some finished cookies too.
Another thing I do is if I use white chocolate chips, fun sprinkles, or dark chocolate chips, I’ll have little bowls full of them displayed next to the cookies too. And I like to use seasonal bowls, mugs, plates, etc. to keep up with the holiday theme. If you’re hosting for a cookie exchange party, make sure to have serving utensils displayed next to the cookies too. It’s both practical and functional!
Lastly, I also love to pair up my finished holiday desserts with a candle. And again, if you know me, then you know it’s gotta be an Antique Candle Co candle ! They have the perfect holiday scents to go along with all the different types of cookies.
For example, their homemade gingerbread candle is perfect to display with gingerbread cookies. And, their peppermint candle is great with the chocolate fudge cookie with candy cane buttercream like I mentioned above too. And, they even have a plain sugar cookie candle as well. So there are a ton of options to pair your favorite candle with your favorite cookie too! And you can use my code “MACEDONIA20” to get 20% off any candle too!
Enjoy Your Cookie Displays!
If you’re ready to take your holiday party to the next level this year, I hope you take some of my ideas into consideration! Or just keep it simple with a plain ol Christmas cookie tray! Really, anything will do and it’s just fun to make things a little more festive this time of year, don’t you think?
I hope your Christmas season is filled with lots of cookies this year! I know mine will be! There’s nothing like baking and decorating some cookies to get you in the holiday spirit! Do you like to display your cookies once they’re baked too?! If so, let me know how you do it below too!

Christmas Cookie Exchange FAQ’s
To host a Christmas cookie exchange, invite friends and family to participate and ask each person to bring a set number of homemade cookies. At the event, everyone swap cookies, allowing each person to leave with a variety of delicious treats. The yummy Christmas cookies listed in this post are perfect for this!
Of course, add an activity related to the cookies, such as sharing the stories or inspiration behind their cookies, adding a fun and personal touch to the event.
I tend to go with at least 3-5 cookies per person, on the side of more for popular or fancy cookie recipes because everyone loves them! You want to have enough for everyone to taste and to take a few home if desired.
For a large group, consider setting up stations with designated categories (e.g., chocolate, fruit-filled, gluten-free). Ask your friends and family to bring enough cookies to share within each category.
To host a Christmas cookie exchange party, send out invitations specifying the date, time, and location, and ask each person to bring a predetermined number of cookies. Additionally, it be kind of you to provide containers for guests to take home their cookie assortment. Consider offering refreshments and festive decorations to create a delightful holiday atmosphere.
To display cookies, arrange them on a festive table with different platters or trays, making sure to label each cookie variety. Use decorative tablecloths, holiday-themed serving dishes, and charming signage to enhance the presentation and create an inviting display.

Ah, the annual Christmas cookie exchange! It’s a great time to catch up with old friends while nibbling on a delectable assortment of sweets. But with all you already have on your to-do list, the thought of planning a Christmas party may totally max out your stress level. Relax—there are lots of simple ways to make your gathering a success.
Inspired? Create and share by tagging @hallmarkstores .
Host your party early before the holiday rush . It will be less stressful for you, and it will give you and your guests plenty of treats for the upcoming office party, school function or unexpected company.
Give your Christmas cookie swap a theme . Ask your guests to bring only chocolate cookies, butter cookies, bar cookies or any other category of cookies you choose.
Label your guests’ creations . Before you begin sampling the assortment of cookies, have each guest label her offering so everyone knows who brought what. You can use plain labels or seasonal gift tags.
Make it simple but add variety. Adding nuts, jam, chocolate or coconut can turn a simple shortbread recipe into a wide variety of cookies. Consider providing a basic shortbread recipe to your guests beforehand and ask them to invent their own variations for your swap.
Take plenty of pictures of the event . Make sure you take at least one of each baker with her offering as well as snapshots that capture the fun.
Have your guests share the stories behind their recipes . Is it an old family Christmas tradition? Do they make it only during the holidays? Exchanging recipes along with their history is bound to be a great conversation starter.
Take and bake . Plastic presentation folders are an easy way for your guests to keep their exchanged recipes organized. Just slip them into the folder, slide on the binding, and everyone will have a booklet to take home.
Present awards for Most Decadent, Most Likely to be Kept for Oneself, Nuttiest or Chocolatiest!
Personalized containers for your guests to bring their cookies home in are a thoughtful touch. Cookie tins, small canvas bags, plastic buckets or plastic takeout containers work well. Line them with tissue paper and add a bow to the handles for a festive touch.
Finally, don’t forget the most important and fun part, sharing and eating!

Christmas Cookie Contest Ideas: Christmas Cookie Hack
With the holiday season approaching, many people are getting into the festive spirit by baking Christmas cookies. Whether you're a seasoned baker or a beginner, hosting a Christmas cookie contest can be a fun and exciting way to bring people together and showcase your baking skills. In this article, we'll explore some creative and unique ideas for hosting a Christmas cookie contest that will have everyone feeling merry and bright. I also have a cute Christmas cookie hack that you can use in your own baking this season.
One idea for a Christmas cookie contest is to have a theme for the cookies. For example, you could have a “traditional” theme where contestants are required to bake classic Christmas cookies like sugar cookies, gingerbread men, and snickerdoodles. Alternatively, you could have a “non-traditional” theme where contestants are encouraged to get creative and bake cookies that are unique or unusual. This could include cookies with unexpected flavors or ingredients, like lavender shortbread or bacon chocolate chip cookies.
Another fun idea for a Christmas cookie contest is to have a blind taste test. To do this, you would have contestants submit their cookies anonymously and then have judges taste each one without knowing who baked it. This can add an element of excitement and suspense to the contest, as contestants and judges alike try to guess whose cookies are whose. Overall, there are many different ways to host a Christmas cookie contest that will be enjoyable for everyone involved.
Planning Your Christmas Cookie Contest
Choosing a theme.
The first step in planning a successful Christmas cookie contest is to choose a theme. The theme should be festive and related to the holiday season. Some popular themes include “Traditional Christmas Cookies,” “Holiday Treats from Around the World,” and “Christmas Cookie Exchange.” When selecting a theme, make sure it is broad enough to allow for a variety of entries, but specific enough to give contestants a clear idea of what to bake.
Setting the Rules
Once the theme is chosen, it's time to set the rules. The rules should be clear and concise, and cover all aspects of the contest, including eligibility, entry requirements, judging criteria, and prizes. It's important to decide whether the contest will be open to amateurs or professionals, and whether there will be separate categories for different types of cookies. You may also want to consider setting a limit on the number of entries per person.
Selecting Judges
The final step in planning a Christmas cookie contest is to select the judges. The judges should be knowledgeable about baking and have a good sense of taste. You may want to consider inviting local chefs, food bloggers, or baking enthusiasts to serve as judges. It's important to have an odd number of judges to avoid ties, and to make sure they are impartial and unbiased.
By following these guidelines, you can plan a fun and festive Christmas cookie contest that will bring joy to all who participate.
Cookie Category Ideas
When it comes to hosting a Christmas cookie contest, it's important to offer a variety of categories to accommodate different baking styles and dietary needs. Here are some ideas for cookie categories that will inspire creativity and encourage participation:
Traditional Christmas Cookies
For those who love classic holiday flavors, a traditional cookie category is a must. This category can include cookies like gingerbread, sugar cookies, and shortbread. To add a fun twist, consider adding a requirement that the cookies must be shaped like a holiday symbol, such as a Christmas tree or a snowflake.
- Christmas Tree Sugar Cookies
- White Chocolate Peppermint Cookies
- Dark Chocolate Gingerbread Cookies
Gluten-Free Options
With more people adopting gluten-free diets, it's important to offer a category that accommodates this dietary restriction. Gluten-free cookies can be just as delicious as their traditional counterparts, and can include ingredients like almond flour, coconut flour, and gluten-free oats. To make the category more challenging, consider requiring that the cookies be dairy-free as well.
Decorative Designs
For those who enjoy getting creative in the kitchen, a decorative cookie category is a great option. This category can include cookies that are decorated with frosting, sprinkles, and other edible decorations. To make the category more challenging, consider requiring that the cookies be designed to tell a story or depict a holiday scene.
By offering a variety of categories, you can ensure that everyone has a chance to participate and showcase their baking skills. Whether they prefer traditional flavors, need gluten-free options, or love to get creative with decorations, there's a category for everyone in a Christmas cookie contest.

Promoting the Event
To ensure a successful Christmas cookie contest, it is important to promote the event effectively. This section will cover two primary methods for promoting the event: social media strategy and local community engagement.
Social Media Strategy
Social media is an essential tool for promoting events in today's world. To promote the Christmas cookie contest, organizers should create social media accounts on platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter. They should post regularly about the event, including details such as the date, time, location, and how to enter.
Organizers can also create a hashtag for the event and encourage participants and attendees to use it when posting about the contest on social media. This will help to increase the event's visibility and reach a wider audience.
Local Community Engagement
Engaging with the local community is another effective way to promote the Christmas cookie contest. Organizers can reach out to local businesses and ask them to display flyers or posters about the event. They can also contact local media outlets such as newspapers and radio stations and ask them to feature the event in their coverage.
Organizers can also consider partnering with local schools or community organizations to promote the event. They could offer to provide a prize for the school or organization that submits the most entries, for example.
By using a combination of social media strategy and local community engagement, organizers can effectively promote the Christmas cookie contest and ensure a successful event.
Prizes and Awards
Creative prize categories.
When planning a Christmas cookie contest, offering creative prize categories can make the event even more exciting for participants. Some ideas for unique prize categories include:
- Best Holiday-Themed Cookie: Awarded to the cookie that best captures the festive spirit of the season.
- Most Creative Cookie: Given to the cookie that showcases the most unique and inventive flavor combinations or decorations.
- Best Presentation: Awarded to the cookie that is presented in the most visually appealing way.
By offering these creative prize categories, participants will be more motivated to put their best foot forward and create cookies that stand out from the rest.
Sponsorship and Partnerships
Another way to enhance the prizes and awards for a Christmas cookie contest is by partnering with local businesses or organizations. This can not only provide additional prizes for the winners but also help promote the event and increase its visibility.
Sponsorship opportunities can include:
- Donating gift cards or merchandise to be awarded as prizes.
- Providing food and beverages for the event.
- Offering discounts or promotions for contestants or attendees.
By partnering with local businesses and organizations, the Christmas cookie contest can become a community-wide event that brings people together and celebrates the holiday season in a fun and festive way.
