Singapore International Graduate Award (SINGA) covers tuition fees, monthly stipend of $2,000, one-time settling-in allowance of $1,000 and one-time airfare grant of up to S$1,500.

(2) Prepare the following documents in advance before applying:

  • Identification card or Passport.
  • A recent passport-sized photo (in .jpeg or .png format).
  • Bachelor’s and/or Master’s academic transcripts.
  • Bachelor’s Degree certificate(s) / scroll(s) or a letter of certification from the university on your candidature if your degree certificate / scroll has not yet been conferred.
  • Two recommendation reports minimum (to be completed and submitted online by the referees).

(5) Fill the application form.

  • Do not mail any hard copy documents to SINGA Office. All necessary documents are to be submitted online.

2024 LKY Scholarship

The Lee Kuan Yew (LKY) Scholarship is the premier postgraduate scholarship in Singapore. Set up in 1991 by the Tanjong Pagar Citizens’ Consultative Committee with funding from the public to commemorate the contributions made by Mr Lee Kuan Yew to Singapore, it marks Singapore's continuous effort to recognise outstanding individuals with the aptitude and inclination to contribute to Singapore and our society.

Since its inception, many Lee Kuan Yew Scholarship holders have gone on to make significant contributions across varied fields including the Public Service, business, law, medicine, the arts and academia.

Applicants, who must be Singapore citizens, will be assessed holistically. This includes their track record of leadership and achievement in their fields of pursuit/professions. Applicants should also have the potential to excel in their fields/professions, which will contribute to and benefit Singapore and our society.

Lee Kuan Yew Scholarship recipients can pursue postgraduate studies overseas or locally to develop their potential as leaders in their respective fields. There are no restrictions on the course of study. Applicants should have at least two academic terms of study remaining at the point of application.

While there is no bond associated with the Scholarship, Lee Kuan Yew Scholarship recipients are expected to actively contribute towards the betterment of Singapore and Singaporeans.

Scholarship recipients will receive full tuition fees coverage and an annual allowance of S$50,000 for up to 2 years if they are pursuing a Master’s degree or up to 5 years for PhD studies. 

Public sector awardees who are already sponsored by their agencies for their postgraduate studies will receive a one-off sum of S$10,000. They will not receive sponsorship of tuition fees and the annual allowance from the Lee Kuan Yew Scholarship. 

Application for the 2024 LKY Scholarship is now open. Applications should be supported by at least 2 referee reports and are to be submitted via the Gateway application portal by 10 March 2024.

Shortlisted applicants will be notified by early April 2024. The interviews will be held in April 2024.

  • You are a local or international student seeking admission as a full-time candidate for Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) programme at NIE
  • You have a Bachelor's degree with honours at least at Second Class Upper level, Master's degree in the relevant areas and the ability to pursue research in your proposed field of advanced study
  • You must not be on paid employment or accept paid employment or concurrently hold any other scholarship, fellowship, bursary or top-up allowance during the prescribed period of the award
  • There shall be no bond of service in Singapore attached to the scholarship.
  • The scholarship shall be tenable for one (1) year in the first instance and renewed annually subject to the scholar's satisfactory progress. The maximum period of award is four (4) years from the date of admission into the PhD programme.
  • The monthly stipend is shown in the table below.

  • For Singapore Citizens, Central Provident Fund (CPF) contributions shall be provided at a rate pegged to the prevailing employer's contribution rate set by CPF, on top of the monthly stipend received.
  • For scholars who pass the Ph.D. Qualifying Examination/Confirmation, he/she may be eligible for an additional stipend of up to $500 per month. The increase in stipend is subject to good performance in research and the attainment of required standards for courses taken. The University reserves the right to vary the amount of the stipend at any time by written notice.
  • The scholarship award will also cover the annual tuition fee.
  • Students must perform teaching/ laboratory supervision duties to fulfil the requirements of the Graduate Assistantship Programme (GAP).
