Description

For this assignment, we will focus on the case “Improving Performance at the Hotel Paris” ( p. 380) in the textbook.

A case study is a short description of a real business situation. Analyzing case studies gives you the opportunity to apply those concepts to real business problems. Cases are generally written for several types of analysis. Usually, there is not a “ right or wrong"” answer. Rather, cases provide a vehicle for you to demonstrate your understanding and ability to apply course concepts. You must use appropriate sources (properly cited) to support your position. Check your analysis by assessing how well it demonstrates your HR knowledge. If your answer relies on your impressions of HR prior to taking this course, it is likely that the analysis is not your best effort.

Simply answering the questions which are part of the case is not enough; consider the questions to be clues to the important concepts and facts. You are strongly encouraged to use the following outline so that your analysis is organized appropriately:

  • Identify both the key issues and the underlying issues. In identifying the issues, you should be able to connect them to the HR principles which apply to this situation.
  • Discuss the facts which affect these issues. The case may have too much information. In your discussion, you should filter the information and discuss those facts which are pertinent to the issues identified above.
  • Discuss your tentative solution to the problem and how you would implement your solution. What actions would you propose to correct the situation, based on the knowledge you have gained in this course? Be sure to support your recommendation by citing references in the text and in the supplementary readings. You should also draw on other references such as business periodicals and HR journals. Remember that an ANALYSIS is more than simply a SUMMARY of the Case Study.
  • Discuss follow-up and contingency plans. How will the organization know that your proposed solution is working? What should they do if it does not work?

It may be helpful for you to “role-play” this assignment. Consider yourself to be the HR Manager, charged with developing a presentation for the CEO . Your presentation should cover the points listed above. By "role-playing" the situation, using the questions at the end of the case as hints, and by using this guide, you should be able to develop an action-oriented analysis with a recommended course of action. Your analysis of the case study should be a minimum of 4 pages written in APA style and is due at the end of this module.

Use your Originality Report as a learning tool to identify areas of your assignment that you may not have cited appropriately. You may resubmit your assignment through this dropbox as many times as you need to check to see if you have made improvements, until the due date of the assignment. However, once you have made your first submission, you will need to wait 24 hours after each subsequent submission to receive a new Originality Report. Plan accordingly as you draft your assignment. Once the due date has passed, your assignment submission will be considered final.

This assignment will be graded using the SBT Case Analysis Rubric. Please review this rubric prior to beginning your work. You can also access the rubric on the Course Rubrics page within the Start Here module. This assignment is worth 20% of your final course grade.

Explanation & Answer

hotel paris case study hrm

Hello, I have completed this assignment and attached two documents. The first one is a completed assignment and the other is an outline. Please review the competed assignment and feel free to reach me in case of anything. Thank you so much and be blessed. Running head: CASE ANALYSIS 1 Case analysis: Improving Performance at the Hotel Paris Name Institutional affiliation Date CASES ANALYSIS 2 Key issues and underlying issues Hotel Paris faces the issue of matching pay and incentives to the company’s strategic goals. After surveying other companies, Hotel Paris's best pay offers are at par less than other companies, which demotivates employees (Gari, 2011). At the Hotel Paris, the salaries offered are far below the hotel industry's average amount. The organization faces a gap in harnessing its employees' potential and the compensation strategy, which will be vital in motivating the employees. The company has bigger goals, which is to provide superior services to visiting guests. However, the company's general approach to compensating the employees is less motivating. The employees at the Hotel Paris pay average wages and sometimes less than the average salaries in the industry. The company does not have a clear compensation plan for its employees. Some employees have adopted the culture of "don't care" with the concept that even if they perform better, the salary will be the same as those who contributed less. As a result, the performance has declined, and the guest’s satisfaction has deteriorated. The company is in limbo on aligning the pay standards with the strategic plan to realize superior hotel services compared to other companies in the services line. The change in the strategic plan aims to improve the company's profit level and long-term viability. However, the company's meager compensation plan will be a barrier to achieving the company's goal. The company has unplanned and sophisticated compensation programs. The company has a limited compensation plan which must be scrapped and recrafted to achieve the organizational goals. The newly developed compensation program should suit the company’s ambition while also balancing the existing budget. Employee satisfaction has declined due to unplanned compensation programs, which see some employees paid far less than their efforts. The unproportionate compensation programs contribute to declining employees' performance. The company had lower CASES ANALYSIS 3 achievement on the set goals. The primary goal of Hotel Paris was to provide superior guest services that will attract customer returns and increase profitability levels. Also,...
