The following essay was written by a successful applicant who got accepted to top fashion design and textile programs at some of the top fashion schools. The schools she got admitted to included Parsons, the London school of fashion, and the Royal college of arts. Sample Personal Statement Design and Textile

Shivers run down my spine as I am transported back to the darkest day of my life. As a toddler, I witnessed something so disquieting that I froze at that moment. I witnessed something so raw that, ever since, my impressionable mind has been in a frenzy – unable to recover from it. Then, I saw my mother trying to set herself on fire.

Standing helplessly in one corner, I was caught in a daze. Seeing your mother trying to give up on life like that is beyond disturbing. No one can ever understand where I come from as they have not walked my path.

However, the same past has transformed me into the strong individual I am today. Since that day, I decided I could not be at the mercy of a ruthless man, for my mother was my father. This epiphany gave me a goal. To become an independent woman and survive without being dependent on anyone.

That night something magical happened. Our guardian angel helped my mother reconsider her weak choice. We escaped the moment and moved back to my maternal grandparent’s house, leaving behind my father. I have never met him since.

Being a single parent, my mother struggled to make a living for her three infant children. She fought with all her might to provide us with every possible comfort. She taught us that, as do winters, springs find their way. Her aspiration has always been to make a better life for us.

Despite all the dark empty holes in her life, she taught me to make drawings and fill them with beautiful colors. And in art, I have found my escape. I draw my mind. The sun comes up every morning. Every day is a new beginning to a life full of different shades of hue. It’s charismatic. If you focus on the bright things, the dark emptiness disappears, the roots start to grow, and little buds of happiness form.

That’s why even in conversations, my mind wanders to what I want to draw next and how to fill it with colors. I am just optimistic that life will lead me to great heights. These are the things I have learned from being raised by a strong mother. A strong mother gives you the confidence to be who you want. You do what you want and aren’t afraid of expressing yourself.

In my case, I draw and construct designs. My mother has moved mountains, and so will I. Being a hardworking lady, my mother wasn’t always by my side. She worked tirelessly, so I used to spend most of my time with my grandfather. He, too, was a man of great wisdom. Unfortunately, by the age of 9, I lost him. I was broken and shattered. That was the moment I froze again. I had spent most of my childhood with him. He always encouraged me to grow and pursue my dreams to every possible limit. My life experiences represent my turmoil, resilience, and strength to conquer. I aspire to change my vision into reality now.

My philosophy behind Fashion and Textile design is more than designing clothes. The design never remains the same; it changes with the environment, just like life changes every minute. Some like to call it a fad. For me, every single design is a story to be found, heard, and felt. I speak through lines, designs, and colors. I channel my art into designs and fashion silhouettes. Fashion is beauty, enthrallment, and secrecy. Fashion is my passion. Hence, my work is a depiction of myself.

I have done my undergrad in Textile and Clothing. The degree comprised fashion illustrations inspired by drapery and designs that evoke emotions. The way it induces diverse sentiments is beautiful. I want to communicate different emotions to people and untangle the anonymity of how clothing can modify the environment.

My true passion for fashion flourished while doing my thesis in the final year of my undergrad. I developed color-therapeutic Adaptive Clothing for children suffering from cerebral palsy because I feel that color, design, and lines have the power to heal.

Currently, I’m working as an assistant fashion designer at Zara. At work, one of my responsibilities is to visualize ideas and transform them into tangible women’s fashion apparel. In addition, I develop fashion silhouettes for different fabrications and technical specifications of fashion cutlines using photoshop. Teamwork has helped me elicit sources of inspiration for seasonal range collections. This experience has made me confident and helped me contribute to a world where colors and designs speak of people’s minds. It’s an inspiring experience to know that a part of me lives in their stories.

This might be a chance for me to identify my local culture on an international platform. This will bring uniqueness and diversity to the entrepreneurial world of my country, where chauvinists oppress women. Being a strong woman, my mother has been an asset to me; it’s time for me to become an asset to other women.

I seek a long-term career where I can articulate my artistic talent and passion for fashion and open my mind by exploring the skills I could never do in any other field. My experience was unforgettable, and that surely made me what I’m today. I have armored myself in it. If I get this chance, I can gain a career that I’ll love for the rest of my life without regret.

Fashion Personal Statement Example

Sample statement.

For me, fashion enables you to define yourself without even having to open your mouth. Your own unique style can tell a complete stranger everything they need to know about you and your personality, and the even bigger benefit is that you can change your style to suit your mood or the occasion.

I feel that clothing allows you to change the way you are perceived by society more easily than anything else you could change about yourself. By being a true style chameleon you can be anything you want to be. Designers that really encompass this feeling for me are Vivienne Westwood, Stella McCartney, and in recent years, Victoria Beckham.

At school I excelled in Textiles and completed a complicated formal dress, involving an inner corset, for my final year project. This course allowed me to develop the practical skills needed to truly understand the fashion industry and my independent research gave me an insight in to textile manufacturing and development.

To help develop my own personal sense of style I worked part-time in High Street fashion store River Island during my time at college. Whilst there I learnt a lot about how to combine individual items to create whole outfits, as well as the business side of fashion such as staff management, deliveries, and visual merchandising.

Outside of my education I enjoy travelling as I feel this helps to inspire my future fashion choices and shows me how different cultures and climates have affected the way people dress. For me, part of the fun of travelling is bringing back clothing or accessories to remind you of your holiday at home.

I also enjoy being involved in social media, and run several of my own ‘blogs’. I hope that in the future my writing experience will enable me to gain work experience in a fashion journalism or editorial role.

I hope that my time at university will allow me to learn more about the manufacturing and designing side of the fashion industry so that I can begin to develop my own range of home ware textiles.

• Your academic experience to date, including the subject areas and modules that you most enjoy.
• The most significant research project or dissertation you have undertaken, discussing the title, research methods and overall outcomes.
• Any previous experience of engaging in quantitative research alongside the research methods and statistical packages used.
• Your career plans and how the course might help you achieve them.

How long should a fashion marketing personal statement be?

Although there is typically no given word count, at a Masters degree level, your personal statement should be no less than one page in length. The course leader will be checking your writing capabilities, so it needs to be professionally written and thoroughly proofread for spelling and grammar before it is submitted.

I have always been driven by a passion for creativity and a love for the finer details. How to write a personal statement for fashion

Fashion courses at university are incredibly competitive, so how do you make your personal statement stand out? Be original, think business, and don’t quote Chanel

"F ashion is not simply a matter of clothes; fashion is in the air, born upon the wind; one intuits it." That's a quote from Coco Chanel – and it's how not to start a personal statement for a fashion degree.

When applying for a university fashion course, your personal statement won't even be read though if your portfolio is not good enough.

Willie Walters, programme director for fashion at Central St Martins, said the personal statement is "secondary" to portfolio work.

"I don't even read the statements unless the work looks interesting," she says.

Walters advises applicants to make their portfolio work as clear as possible, and to include research and sketchbook work, as well as photographs of design pieces. "We look for originality and something fresh."

When it comes to the written statement, saying you have a "passion for fashion" is an immediate no-no, says Josephine Collins, course leader for fashion journalism at the London College of Fashion.

"It's easy to do and sounds great but we've seen it so many times before," she warns. Similarly, admissions tutors cringe when confronted with yet another tired quote from a fashion icon.

Fashion related courses are notoriously competitive, so avoiding clichés is an important way to make your application stand out, says Andrew Groves, course director for fashion design at the University of Westminster.

"Put yourself in my shoes," says Groves, who reads over 1,000 personal statements each year. "How would you make yours different from all those other applications?"

Although mentioning your favourite designer is a good idea, you should think carefully about who you cite, says Mal Burkinshaw, programme director of fashion at Edinburgh University.

"We always have the same designers quoted. Every now and then someone says they are interested in a more conceptual designer and it makes them stand out. You can tell they are engaging more deeply."

Evidence of engagement with fashion is essential, agree tutors, but make sure you are thinking about it as a serious industry.

"Fashion is the third largest industry in the UK," says Jane Gottelier, programme leader of the fashion department at Falmouth University.

"I steer clear of students who talk mainly about celebrity fashion and TV programmes in their personal statements because it makes me think that they see fashion as something rather fluffy," she says.

As well as explaining why you want to study fashion and listing any relevant work experience, it's also important to show interests outside of fashion, say tutors.

"Some of our fashion courses are really business-orientated," says Liz Barnes, senior lecturer in fashion at Manchester University, "so demonstrating a commercial mind is key."

Outside interests show an engagement with general society that is important for a fashion student, and key to fashion admissions tutors.

It's important to be up to date on current news, to prove an academic interest and to show curiosity about the world and an inquisitive mind. If you have an unusual hobby don't be afraid to mention it as it might help yourself get noticed.

"I've had ice skaters, an Olympic-standard gymnast and stick insect collectors," says Anne Chaisty, principal lecturer in fashion studies at the Arts University Bournemouth.

Fashion may be portrayed as a cut-throat industry, but people who are interested in giving something back interest Chaisty.

"We look for students who want to make a positive difference through what they do as a designer," she says.

Accuracy and a good flow are things all tutors agree on when it comes to a good personal statement, but Barnes says you should also be in tune with the specifics of your course.

"There are lots of courses that are called fashion marketing, for example, but the content of those courses will vary enormously," Barnes explained.

"Understand the course you are applying for and tailor the personal statement to match."

For courses where a portfolio carries a heavier weighting than the personal statement, it is still important to express personality in your written statement.

Tutors say individuality and character are perhaps the most important things to convey.

"Don't contrive something for the sake of it," advises Chaisty, "just be honest, be natural and be yourself."

Just don't quote Coco Chanel.

A personal statement is a narrative essay that connects your background, experiences, and goals to the mission, requirements, and desired outcomes of the specific opportunity you are seeking. It is a critical component in the selection process, whether the essay is for a competitive internship, a graduate fellowship, or admittance to a graduate school program. It gives the selection committee the best opportunity to get to know you, how you think and make decisions, ways in which past experiences have been significant or formative, and how you envision your future. Personal statements can be varied in form; some are given a specific prompt, while others are less structured. However, in general a personal statement should answer the following questions:

• Who are you?
• What are your goals?
• How does this specific program/opportunity help you achieve your goals?
• What is in the future?

A personal statement is not:

• A variation of your college admissions essay
• An academic/research paper
• A narrative version of your resume
• A creative writing piece (it can be creative, though)
• An essay about somebody else

Keep in mind that your statement is only a portion of the application and should be written with this in mind. Your entire application package will include some, possibly all, of the materials listed below. You will want to consider what these pieces of the application communicate about you. Your personal statement should aim to tie everything together and fill in or address any gaps. There will likely be some overlap but be sure not to be too repetitive.

If you are writing your first personal statement or working to improve upon an existing personal statement, the video below is a helpful, in-depth resource.

A large portion of your work towards completing a personal statement begins well before your first draft or even an outline. It is incredibly important to be sure you understand all of the rules and regulations around the statement. Things to consider before you begin writing:

• How many prompts? And what are they? It is important to know the basics so you can get your ideas in order. Some programs will require a general statement of interest and a focused supplementary or secondary statement closely aligned with the institution's goals.
• Are there formatting guidelines? Single or double spaced, margins, fonts, text sizes, etc. Our general guideline is to keep it simple.
• How do I submit my statement(s)? If uploading a document we highly suggest using a PDF as it will minimize the chances of accidental changes to formatting. Some programs may event ask you to copy and paste into a text box.
• When do I have to submit my statement(s)? Most are due at the time of application but some programs, especially medical schools, will ask for secondary statements a few months after you apply. In these instances be sure to complete them within two weeks, any longer is an indication that you aren't that interested in the institution.

Before you start writing, take some time to reflect on your experiences and motivations as they relate to the programs to which you are applying. This will offer you a chance to organize your thoughts which will make the writing process much easier. Below are a list of questions to help you get started:

• What individuals, experiences or events have shaped your interest in this particular field?
• What has influenced your decision to apply to graduate school?
• How does this field align with your interests, strengths, and values?
• What distinguishes you from other applicants?
• What would you bring to this program/profession?
• What has prepared you for graduate study in this field? Consider your classes at Wellesley, research and work experience, including internships, summer jobs and volunteer work.
• Why are you interested in this particular institution or degree program?
• How is this program distinct from others?
• What do you hope to gain?
• What is motivating you to seek an advanced degree now?
• Where do you see yourself headed and how will this degree program help you get there?

For those applying to Medical School, if you need a committee letter for your application and are using the Medical Professions Advisory Committee you have already done a lot of heavy lifting through the 2017-2018 Applicant Information Form . Even if you aren't using MPAC the applicant information form is a great place to start.

Another great place to start is through talking out your ideas. You have a number of options both on and off campus, such as: Career Education advisors and mentors ( you can set up an appointment here ), major advisor, family, friends. If you are applying to a graduate program it is especially important to talk with a faculty member in the field. Remember to take good notes so you can refer to them later.

When you begin writing keep in mind that your essay is one of many in the application pool. This is not to say you should exaggerate your experiences to “stand out” but that you should focus on clear, concise writing. Also keep in mind that the readers are considering you not just as a potential student but a future colleague. Be sure to show them examples and experiences which demonstrate you are ready to begin their program.

It is important to remember that your personal statement will take time and energy to complete, so plan accordingly. Every application and statement should be seen as different from one another, even if they are all the same type of program. Each institution may teach you the same material but their delivery or focus will be slightly different.

In addition, remember:

• Be yourself: You aren’t good at being someone else
• Tragedy is not a requirement, reflection and depth are
• Research the institution or organization
• Proofread, proofread, proofread
• How to have your personal statement reviewed

The prompts below are from actual applications to a several types of programs. As you will notice many of them are VERY general in nature. This is why it is so important to do your research and reflect on your motivations. Although the prompts are similar in nature the resulting statements would be very different depending on the discipline and type of program, as well as your particular background and reasons for wanting to pursue this graduate degree.

• This statement should illustrate your academic background and experiences and explain why you would excel in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering (UMass Amherst - M.S. in Civil Engineering).
• Describe your academic and career objectives and how the Yale School of Forestry and Environmental Studies can help you achieve them. Include other considerations that explain why you seek admissions to the Yale School of Forestry and Environmental Studies and your interests in the environmental field (Yale - Master of Environmental Management).  
• Please discuss your academic interests and goals. Include your current professional and research interests, as well as your long-range professional objectives. Please be as specific as possible about how your objectives can be met at Clark and do not exceed 800 words (Clark University - M.A. in International Development and Social Change).
• Write a 500- to 700-word statement that describes your work or research. Discuss how you came to focus on the medium, body of work, or academic area you wish to pursue at the graduate level. Also discuss future directions or goals for your work, and describe how the Master of Fine Arts in Studio (Printmedia) is particularly suited to your professional goals (School of the Art Institute of Chicago - MFA in Studio, Printmaking).
• Your statement should explain why you want to study economics at the graduate level. The statement is particularly important if there is something unusual about your background and preparation that you would like us to know about you (University of Texas at Austin - Ph.D in Economics).
• Your personal goal statement is an important part of the review process for our faculty members as they consider your application. They want to know about your background, work experience, plans for graduate study and professional career, qualifications that make you a strong candidate for the program, and any other relevant information (Indiana University Bloomington - M.S.Ed. in Secondary Education).
• Your autobiographical essay/personal statement is a narrative that outlines significant experiences in your life, including childhood experiences, study and work, your strengths and aspirations in the field of architecture, and why you want to come to the University of Oregon (University of Oregon - Master of Architecture).
• Personal history and diversity statement, in which you describe how your personal background informs your decision to pursue a graduate degree. You may refer to any educational, familial, cultural, economic or social experiences, challenges, community service, outreach activities, residency and citizenship, first-generation college status, or opportunities relevant to your academic journey; how your life experiences contribute to the social, intellectual or cultural diversity within a campus community and your chosen field; or how you might serve educationally underrepresented and underserved segments of society with your graduate education (U.C. Davis - M.A. in Linguistics).
• A Personal Statement specifying your past experiences, reasons for applying, and your areas of interest. It should explain your intellectual and personal goals, why you are interested in pursuing an interdisciplinary degree rather than a more traditional disciplinary one, and how this degree fits into your intellectual and personal future (Rutgers University - Ph.D in Women’s and Gender Studies).
• Your application requires a written statement to uploaded into your application and is a critical component of your application for admission. This is your opportunity to tell us what excites you about the field of library and information science, and what problems you want to help solve in this field. Please also tell us how your prior experiences have prepared you for this next step toward your career goals and how this program will help you achieve them (University of North Carolina Chapel Hill - Master of Science in Library Science).
• After watching the video, please describe what strengths and preferences as a learner you have that will facilitate your success in this innovative curriculum. What challenges in our curriculum do you anticipate and what strategies might you use to address these challenges? (MGH Institute of Health Professions PT - They recently redesigned their curriculum)
• Your personal goal statement should briefly describe how you view the future of the field, what your goals are to be part of that future, and what brought you to pursue an advanced education degree in your chosen field. You may include any other information that you feel might be useful. (Northeastern PT)
• Personal Statement: In 500 words or less, describe a meaningful educational experience that affected your professional goals and growth and explain how it impacted you. The educational experience does not need to be related to this degree. Focus on the educational experience and not why you think you would be a good professional in this field. (Simmons PT)
• Personal Statement (500 word minimum): State your reasons for seeking admission to this program at this institution. Include your professional goals, why you want to pursue a career in this field and how admission to this program will assist you in accomplishing those goals. (Regis College Nursing)
• “Use the space provided to explain why you want to go to this type of program.” (AMCAS)
• Address the following three questions(Though there is no set limit, most statements are 1–2 pages, single-spaced.): What are your reasons for pursuing this degree? Why do you wish to pursue your degree at this institution? How do you intend to leverage your degree in a career of this field? (Boston University MPH)
• Please submit a personal statement/statement of purpose of no more than 500 words for the department/degree of choice. Professional degree essays require a clear understanding of the _______ field and how you hope to work within the field. Be sure to proofread your personal statement carefully for spelling and grammar. In your statement, be sure to address the following: what interests you in the field of _____ what interests you in a specific degree program and department at this institution and what interests you in a particular certificate (if applicable). Spinning Success: Kent State's Lizzy Trout Weaves Creativity into 2024 Supima Cotton Design Competition

The Kent State University School of Fashion has a strong legacy of participation in the prestigious Supima Design Competition, which highlights some of the most promising emerging designers in the U.S. 

The 2024 Supima Design Competition, a prominent event during New York Fashion Week, will take place on September 7, 2024. Hosted by acclaimed designer Phillip Lim, the competition will feature collections from seven finalists, each representing a leading U.S. fashion school. These top fashion schools select one exceptional graduate to represent their institution. The finalists are tasked with creating capsule collections entirely made from luxurious Supima cotton, known for its superior softness and sustainability.

Lizzy Trout, a Kent State University School of Fashion graduate, will be competing against students from institutions like the Fashion Institute of Technology and the Savannah College of Art and Design. Trout will present her collection to a distinguished panel of judges, vying for the $10,000 prize, which has the potential to launch her career in the fashion industry.

"We are incredibly proud of Lizzy Truit for being selected as a finalist in the prestigious Supima Design Competition," said School of Fashion Director, Mourad Krifa . "This achievement is a testament to Lizzy's exceptional talent, creativity and dedication to their craft. Writing Your Personal Statement

While we often think of the importance that health professions schools put on numbers (GPA, test scores, hours of experience), the personal statement is also crucial. This is where you are able to show the schools who you are, how you have gained skills and developed in the competencies needed to be a healthcare provider, and share your ability to communicate. This essay should demonstrate your values, your best qualities, what you are passionate about, and how all of that has led you down the path to this career. To really make your point, use experiences, activities and stories that highlight the qualities in you that are important when considering this healthcare career. You want to show that you are ready and committed, not just say it.

The Essay Itself

The personal statement will be a significant part of the decision for a school to choose whom they will interview, so crafting a will written and interesting essay which highlights who you are as an individual is important. The personal statement should not just be a narrative version of your resume, and not necessarily organized chronologically – it is the story of you as a person and your path toward a healthcare career.

Before you begin your personal statement, you need to familiarize yourself with the parameters specified by your application. Depending on the application service or school, there are different requirements and expectations for the personal statement.

Character Limitations

• AMCAS and AACOMAS - 5,300 characters – including spaces
• MD/PhD through AMCAS – 3000 characters for why MD/PhD and 10000 characters for the research experience essay
• AADSAS, OptomCAS, OTCAS, CASPA, and PTCAS - 4,500 characters

Typically the personal statement text fields of most applications do not offer formatting options, so you won’t be able to bold, underline, or italicize text.

Your application may have a specific prompt around which you should orient your personal statement. Make sure that your statement adequately addresses the prompt. For some applications the prompt can change from year-to-year, so be sure to verify the prompt for your application cycle.

What Should be Included: Content

So, what should be in a personal statement?

• What motivates you to move down the path towards a healthcare career?
• What do you want schools to know about you that hasn't been disclosed in other sections of the application?
• You cannot address all of them – 4500-5300 characters is just not long enough – so based on your experiences think about highlighting those that most convey who you are.
• What makes you who you are and different from everyone else?
• How do you hope to contribute to the field once you are practicing?

Once you have considered some or all of the above questions is there a thread or theme that runs throughout (besides wanting to be a healthcare provider)? How do you hope the readers of this statement would describe you after reading it?

What Should be Included: Writing Mechanics

In writing the actual essay, know that proper grammar and punctuation is key. Clarity in your writing and logical organization is also important. You do not want the reader to stop reading because they are struggling to understand what you are trying to say. If you have difficulty organizing, you can consider using the PEEL structure:

• Point – topic sentence, what is the point of this paragraph?
• Evidence – what evidence supports the point I am trying to make?
• Explanation – why is what I am saying relevant?
• Link – link to the next paragraph – this is what will help your narrative flow.

Also – look for the thread or theme if you observed one in your brainstorming. Make sure that the story of your WHY is the story that comes through.

Final Points

• Be ready to write multiple drafts!
• Avoid Clichés
• Be genuine and authentic
• Proofread carefully – and get others to read it and give feedback

Fact-checking warnings from Democrats about Project 2025 and Donald Trump

Project 2025 has a starring role in this week’s Democratic National Convention.

And it was front and center on Night 1.

“This is Project 2025,” Michigan state Sen. Mallory McMorrow, D-Royal Oak, said as she laid a hardbound copy of the 900-page document on the lectern. “Over the next four nights, you are going to hear a lot about what is in this 900-page document. Why? Because this is the Republican blueprint for a second Trump term.”

Vice President Kamala Harris, the Democratic presidential nominee, has warned Americans about “Trump’s Project 2025” agenda — even though former President Donald Trump doesn’t claim the conservative presidential transition document.

“Donald Trump wants to take our country backward,” Harris said July 23 in Milwaukee. “He and his extreme Project 2025 agenda will weaken the middle class. Like, we know we got to take this seriously, and can you believe they put that thing in writing?”

Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz, Harris’ running mate, has joined in on the talking point.

“Don’t believe (Trump) when he’s playing dumb about this Project 2025. He knows exactly what it’ll do,” Walz said Aug. 9 in Glendale, Arizona.

Trump’s campaign has worked to build distance from the project, which the Heritage Foundation, a conservative think tank, led with contributions from dozens of conservative groups.

Much of the plan calls for extensive executive-branch overhauls and draws on both long-standing conservative principles, such as tax cuts, and more recent culture war issues. It lays out recommendations for disbanding the Commerce and Education departments, eliminating certain climate protections and consolidating more power to the president.

Project 2025 offers a sweeping vision for a Republican-led executive branch, and some of its policies mirror Trump’s 2024 agenda, But Harris and her presidential campaign have at times gone too far in describing what the project calls for and how closely the plans overlap with Trump’s campaign.

PolitiFact researched Harris’ warnings about how the plan would affect reproductive rights, federal entitlement programs and education, just as we did for President Joe Biden’s Project 2025 rhetoric. Here’s what the project does and doesn’t call for, and how it squares with Trump’s positions.

Are Trump and Project 2025 connected?

To distance himself from Project 2025 amid the Democratic attacks, Trump wrote on Truth Social that he “knows nothing” about it and has “no idea” who is in charge of it. (CNN identified at least 140 former advisers from the Trump administration who have been involved.)

The Heritage Foundation sought contributions from more than 100 conservative organizations for its policy vision for the next Republican presidency, which was published in 2023.

Project 2025 is now winding down some of its policy operations, and director Paul Dans, a former Trump administration official, is stepping down, The Washington Post reported July 30. Trump campaign managers Susie Wiles and Chris LaCivita denounced the document.

However, Project 2025 contributors include a number of high-ranking officials from Trump’s first administration, including former White House adviser Peter Navarro and former Housing and Urban Development Secretary Ben Carson.

A recently released recording of Russell Vought, a Project 2025 author and the former director of Trump’s Office of Management and Budget, showed Vought saying Trump’s “very supportive of what we do.” He said Trump was only distancing himself because Democrats were making a bogeyman out of the document.

Project 2025 wouldn’t ban abortion outright, but would curtail access

The Harris campaign shared a graphic on X that claimed “Trump’s Project 2025 plan for workers” would “go after birth control and ban abortion nationwide.”

The plan doesn’t call to ban abortion nationwide, though its recommendations could curtail some contraceptives and limit abortion access.

What’s known about Trump’s abortion agenda neither lines up with Harris’ description nor Project 2025’s wish list.

Project 2025 says the Department of Health and Human Services Department should “return to being known as the Department of Life by explicitly rejecting the notion that abortion is health care.”

It recommends that the Food and Drug Administration reverse its 2000 approval of mifepristone, the first pill taken in a two-drug regimen for a medication abortion. Medication is the most common form of abortion in the U.S. — accounting for around 63 percent in 2023.

If mifepristone were to remain approved, Project 2025 recommends new rules, such as cutting its use from 10 weeks into pregnancy to seven. It would have to be provided to patients in person — part of the group’s efforts to limit access to the drug by mail. In June, the U.S. Supreme Court rejected a legal challenge to mifepristone’s FDA approval over procedural grounds.

WATCH: Trump’s plans for health care and reproductive rights if he returns to White House The manual also calls for the Justice Department to enforce the 1873 Comstock Act on mifepristone, which bans the mailing of “obscene” materials. Abortion access supporters fear that a strict interpretation of the law could go further to ban mailing the materials used in procedural abortions, such as surgical instruments and equipment.

The plan proposes withholding federal money from states that don’t report to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention how many abortions take place within their borders. The plan also would prohibit abortion providers, such as Planned Parenthood, from receiving Medicaid funds. It also calls for the Department of Health and Human Services to ensure that the training of medical professionals, including doctors and nurses, omits abortion training.

The document says some forms of emergency contraception — particularly Ella, a pill that can be taken within five days of unprotected sex to prevent pregnancy — should be excluded from no-cost coverage. The Affordable Care Act requires most private health insurers to cover recommended preventive services, which involves a range of birth control methods, including emergency contraception.

Trump has recently said states should decide abortion regulations and that he wouldn’t block access to contraceptives. Trump said during his June 27 debate with Biden that he wouldn’t ban mifepristone after the Supreme Court “approved” it. But the court rejected the lawsuit based on standing, not the case’s merits. He has not weighed in on the Comstock Act or said whether he supports it being used to block abortion medication, or other kinds of abortions.

Project 2025 doesn’t call for cutting Social Security, but proposes some changes to Medicare

“When you read (Project 2025),” Harris told a crowd July 23 in Wisconsin, “you will see, Donald Trump intends to cut Social Security and Medicare.”

The Project 2025 document does not call for Social Security cuts. None of its 10 references to Social Security addresses plans for cutting the program.

Harris also misleads about Trump’s Social Security views.

In his earlier campaigns and before he was a politician, Trump said about a half-dozen times that he’s open to major overhauls of Social Security, including cuts and privatization. More recently, in a March 2024 CNBC interview, Trump said of entitlement programs such as Social Security, “There’s a lot you can do in terms of entitlements, in terms of cutting.” However, he quickly walked that statement back, and his CNBC comment stands at odds with essentially everything else Trump has said during the 2024 presidential campaign.

Trump’s campaign website says that not “a single penny” should be cut from Social Security. We rated Harris’ claim that Trump intends to cut Social Security Mostly False.

Project 2025 does propose changes to Medicare, including making Medicare Advantage, the private insurance offering in Medicare, the “default” enrollment option. Unlike Original Medicare, Medicare Advantage plans have provider networks and can also require prior authorization, meaning that the plan can approve or deny certain services. Original Medicare plans don’t have prior authorization requirements.

The manual also calls for repealing health policies enacted under Biden, such as the Inflation Reduction Act. The law enabled Medicare to negotiate with drugmakers for the first time in history, and recently resulted in an agreement with drug companies to lower the prices of 10 expensive prescriptions for Medicare enrollees.

Trump, however, has said repeatedly during the 2024 presidential campaign that he will not cut Medicare.

Project 2025 would eliminate the Education Department, which Trump supports

The Harris campaign said Project 2025 would “eliminate the U.S. Department of Education” — and that’s accurate. Project 2025 says federal education policy “should be limited and, ultimately, the federal Department of Education should be eliminated.” The plan scales back the federal government’s role in education policy and devolves the functions that remain to other agencies.

Aside from eliminating the department, the project also proposes scrapping the Biden administration’s Title IX revision, which prohibits discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity. It also would let states opt out of federal education programs and calls for passing a federal parents’ bill of rights similar to ones passed in some Republican-led state legislatures.

Republicans, including Trump, have pledged to close the department, which gained its status in 1979 within Democratic President Jimmy Carter’s presidential Cabinet.

In one of his Agenda 47 policy videos, Trump promised to close the department and “to send all education work and needs back to the states.” Eliminating the department would have to go through Congress.

What Project 2025, Trump would do on overtime pay

In the graphic, the Harris campaign says Project 2025 allows “employers to stop paying workers for overtime work.”

The plan doesn’t call for banning overtime wages. It recommends changes to some Occupational Safety and Health Administration, or OSHA, regulations and to overtime rules. Some changes, if enacted, could result in some people losing overtime protections, experts told us.

The document proposes that the Labor Department maintain an overtime threshold “that does not punish businesses in lower-cost regions (e.g., the southeast United States).” This threshold is the amount of money executive, administrative or professional employees need to make for an employer to exempt them from overtime pay under the Fair Labor Standards Act.

In 2019, the Trump’s administration finalized a rule that expanded overtime pay eligibility to most salaried workers earning less than about $35,568, which it said made about 1.3 million more workers eligible for overtime pay. The Trump-era threshold is high enough to cover most line workers in lower-cost regions, Project 2025 said.

The Biden administration raised that threshold to $43,888 beginning July 1, and that will rise to $58,656 on Jan. 1, 2025. That would grant overtime eligibility to about 4 million workers, the Labor Department said.

It’s unclear how many workers Project 2025’s proposal to return to the Trump-era overtime threshold in some parts of the country would affect, but experts said some would presumably lose the right to overtime wages.

Other overtime proposals in Project 2025’s plan include allowing some workers to choose to accumulate paid time off instead of overtime pay, or to work more hours in one week and fewer in the next, rather than receive overtime.

Trump’s past with overtime pay is complicated. In 2016, the Obama administration said it would raise the overtime to salaried workers earning less than $47,476 a year, about double the exemption level set in 2004 of $23,660 a year.

But when a judge blocked the Obama rule, the Trump administration didn’t challenge the court ruling. Instead it set its own overtime threshold, which raised the amount, but by less than Obama.

This week, the former first lady of the United States, who has kept a low-profile amid her husband's third bid for the White House, posted a short and sweet love letter, of sorts, to New York City.

On X, the social media platform formerly known as Twitter, Melania Trump posted a photo of the New York City skyline on Tuesday, Aug. 27, and mentioned how she feels about the iconic destination: "New York City captivated my heart the moment I arrived, 28 years ago today. This electrifying town isn't just my home; it's a colorful canvas where dreams come alive. New York’s iconic skyline and vibrant culture inspire me every day."

As of Thursday, Aug. 29, within one day of being posted, the post has had almost 3 million views and 38,000 likes, according to X.

It's a rare public statement from the former model married to former president Donald Trump, who is busy campaigning for Election Day (Nov. 5, 2024), against his Democratic challenger, Vice President Kamala Harris. As the 2024 Republican presidential candidate travels the country for rallies and speeches,  Melania Trump has been noticeably absent . It's contrary to the 2016 and 2020 elections, when she made several public appearances alongside her husband.

Presumably, Melania Trump is  preparing Barron Trump , her only son with Donald Trump, for college following his graduation from Oxbridge Academy in West Palm Beach, Florida. The 18-year-old  Barron Trump picked a college in New York , his father told the New York Post in an Aug. 20, 2024, story. However, he did not mention  which university Barron Trump would attend , adding his team would announce it “soon.”

The now 6-foot-7 (or in some reports 6-foot-9) youngest son of former president Donald Trump has also been keeping a really low-profile.

Why does Melania Trump consider New York home?

Married to billionaire Donald Trump , Melania Trump began her modeling career at age 16 and moved to New York in 1996. The couple met in 1998 at a New York fashion party, became engaged in 2004 and married in 2005.

All of this was  before Trump became the  45th president of the United States,  before Melania became a mom  to Barron Trump (Trump’s  youngest child of five ) in 2006, and before Mar-a-Lago, site of the billionaire’s wedding reception, became known as the  Southern White House when Trump  was in office.

Though Mar-a-Lago has been "home" to the Trump family for years, New York has been significant, too.

• Over the years, Donald and Melania Trump hosted lavish parties at the private club.
• The Trumps became engaged in 2004 and married Jan. 25, 2005, in Palm Beach, Florida. Their reception was held at the “Donald J. Trump Grand Ballroom” at Mar-a-Lago, which is less than 3 miles from wedding venue Bethesda-By-the-Sea Episcopal Church.
• In 2006, Donald Trump became a father for the fifth time when his third wife, Melania Trump, gave birth to Barron Trump on March 20, 2006, in Manhattan, New York.
• Melania Trump raised Barron Trump for much of his childhood at Trump Tower in Manhattan and at Donald Trump’s private estate, Mar-a-Lago in Palm Beach, Florida.
• When Donald Trump moved to Washington, D.C., to serve as president in 2017, Melania and Barron stayed in New York so Barron could finish up his school year. Barron and Melania Trump remained in New York for the first five months of the Trump administration.
• In August 2024, Donald Trump reports his youngest son Barron Trump picked a college in New York. It is not known whether Melania Trump, now an "empty nester" parent, will follow him to New York. On Aug. 27, 2024, she tweeted a photo of the New York skyline, calling it "home."

Trump family, including Melania and Kai Trump, appear at RNC, except for Barron Trump

Melania Trump's last public appearance for her husband's campaign was on July 18, 2024, the last night of the 2024 Republican National Convention in Milwaukee , Wisconsin. Though  she did not give a speech  as she did at the 2016 and 2020 RNCs, Melania Trump sat in the Trump family box for the 2024 RNC. She also surprised her husband on stage in a  viral awkward moment after Donald Trump  accepted the Republican nomination.

Barron Trump was the only immediate  Trump family member who did not attend  the 2024 RNC.

His half-niece, 17-year-old Kai Trump, who's a year younger than him, delivered a speech at the RNC and has (publicly) announced her college choice: the University of Miami , not far from  where she goes to high school now .

Kai Madison Trump's parents are Donald Trump Jr. and former model Vanessa Kay Trump, formerly Vanessa Kay Pergolizzi. The high school senior plays golf with Tiger Woods’ son  Charlie Woods, is the  oldest grandchild of Donald Trump ’s 10 grandchildren and the oldest child of Donald Trump Jr.’s five children.

What college in New York will Barron Trump attend?

As of Thursday, Aug. 29, the 18-year-old Barron Trump, the youngest uncle to Kai Trump, still hasn't announced where he will attend college. But in an Aug. 20, 2024, story from the New York Post, Donald Trump told the publication that Barron Trump picked a college in New York.

Is Barron Trump going to NYU?

In April 2024, rumors about Barron Trump possibly attending New York University started flying around. The NYU campus is not far from Trump Tower in Manhattan, where Barron Trump spent much of his childhood and lived until his father was sworn in as the 45th president in early 2017. Barron Trump lived in the White House with his parents until 2019, when Donald and  Melania Trump  permanently relocated to Trump's private club, Mar-a-Lago in Palm Beach, Florida.

Living on campus at NYU is optional, but "first-year residents of Manhattan-based schools are assigned to Manhattan residence halls only. There are no exceptions," according to the university, which has its own  NYU housing handle on Instagram .

NYU's calendar says fall 2024 classes  begin Tuesday, Sept. 3, the day after Labor Day.

NYU is less than 5 miles from Trump Tower in Manhattan, New York.

Is Barron Trump going to Cornell University in New York?

Donald Trump told the New York Post that his team would soon announce which college in New York his youngest son chose to attend. Cornell University — which has a tuition starting at $66,000 a year, according to U.S. News and World Report — ranked high on the publication's " 2024 Best Colleges in New York " list.

According to the Cornell Daily Sun , Barron Trump, at the time of publication, does not appear in the student directories of Cornell, Columbia and New York University. Registered first-year students at Cornell are typically listed.

Fall classes started Aug. 26 , 2024, for Cornell University students.

Is Barron Trump going to Columbia University in New York?

Like Cornell University, Columbia University, which has a tuition starting at $65,000 a year, ranked high on U.S. News and World Report's list of " 2024 Best Colleges in New York ." Columbia and Cornell tied at No. 12. Cornell's student newspaper, the Cornell Daily Sun, checked the student directory for Cornell, and at the time of publication, Barron Trump's name did not appear.

Fall classes start Tuesday, Sept. 5 , 2024, for Columbia University students. Maps show the university is about 6 miles from Trump Tower in Manhattan, New York.

Fashion management personal statement example 4.

Fashion speaks to me on a personal level. To me fashion is a form of art and self-expression. I love how fashion is inspired by art, music, history and culture.

Accessories can make a simple outfit look different and unique; so many looks can be created alone with accessories. I aspire to travel the world to see fashion in different cultures, as culture has shaped fashion around the world. I would also love to work with young designers and discover new talent.

The designers that I like are Agnes B, Topshop Unique and Marchesa. They’re all different in their own way, but they all have personality in their designs.

I am currently studying Business, French and English literature and language. I have learned how a small business is run and how they operate. I’ve also learned about consumer trends and branding in marketing and learned about balance sheets and budgeting in finance. I think this is essential knowledge for working as a buyer or a merchandiser in fashion.

In French I am currently learning about French arts. I particularly enjoy this as I aspire to work in Paris. Famous works of art have inspired designers to create spectacular pieces loved by millions. English has helped me develop my writing skills that are important for communication in business and I have learned to analyse texts in depth and I have also created my own original pieces of work.

The work experience I have gained at Zoë Boomer gave me the decision to study fashion management. I worked in her studio steaming garments, data entry, packaging garments, attended a photo shoot and sending emails. I really enjoyed this as I was determined to help her business grow.

I spent 10 months working with Zoë Boomer and I intend to work with her in the future. Working with Zoë has inspired me to hopefully run my own fashion business in the future.

I am currently working as a sales assistant in Oxfam Boutique. I have learned a lot about responsibility and organisational skills in retail. I have also developed my social skills and working in a team.

I have had the chance to learn about visual merchandising whilst working in Oxfam. As Oxfam is a business that has to appeal to all ages, I found it challenging yet exciting dressing a form for a young woman and an older woman. Through this I have gained confidence and leadership skills.

I was on the netball team in primary school and high school, I was also a mentor for key stage 3 in primary school. This shows that I have learned to work in team and that I can teach others. In year 11 for textiles I had to create a garment for a young person. I researched designers, fabrics and the latest fashion trends.

My design and my overall garment were very successful because of the positive feedback I received.

I want to pursue a career where I can travel and work in a fashion environment. My hobbies and interest are art, performing arts, psychology, the gym and reading. I also like to visit museums and art galleries. I live by myself so I am very independent.

I think university will give me drive and confidence to learn more about fashion as a whole. I read fashion blogs, magazines and I enjoy shopping. So I am very suitable on a fashion course. I will also develop new skills and I will grow as a person.

Got 5 interviews but i withdrew my applications because i wasn't too sure about studying fashion. My head of year and the school librarian did actually think my personal statement was really good.

Governor Lamont and Commissioner Russell-Tucker Urge Local School Districts To Implement State Board of Education-Adopted Policies on Personal Technology Use in Schools

Guidance includes recommendations on the use of smartphones by students in k-12 public schools.

(HARTFORD, CT) – Governor Ned Lamont and Connecticut Education Commissioner Charlene M. Russell-Tucker are urging local school districts in Connecticut to consider implementing recommendations contained in a position statement and policy guidance document  regarding the use of personal technology, such as smartphones and similar devices, in K-12 public schools that was adopted today by the Connecticut State Board of Education.

Created at the direction of Governor Lamont by the Connecticut State Department of Education, the document – titled Personal Technology Use in Connecticut Schools: Impact of Social Media and the Use of Cell Phones on Student Learning and Mental Health – provides school districts with guidance when drafting and implementing policies to promote a focused learning environment that restricts access to smartphones, other similar personal technology devices, and social media during the school day.

Commissioner Russell-Tucker presented a draft of the guidance to the Connecticut State Board of Education, and its members approved it today by a unanimous vote.

Governor Lamont said that the enactment of stronger policies on this issue are necessary because the increasing use of smartphones in schools has been causing serious distractions among students and having negative impacts on their education and mental health. He stressed that this guidance is intended to provide local school districts with a model framework, and it is up to each district to enact their own policies on this issue.

“All too often, our young people find themselves too distracted by their smartphones and disconnected from the reality of what is happening around them, including while in their classrooms, and it’s having negative impacts on their learning and mental well-being.” Governor Lamont said . “It is crucial that we adopt stronger policies to address this issue head-on. The state’s guidance provides a clear framework, but it is up to each school district to shape their own policies that meet the needs of their students and communities. I appreciate Commissioner Russell-Tucker and her staff, as well as the members of the Connecticut State Board of Education, for their work to research and develop this important guidance.”

“The State Board of Education’s action underscores our department’s dedication to ensuring classroom environments that are conducive to learning,” Commissioner Russell-Tucker said . “By removing the distraction caused by smartphone use during the school day and fostering a healthy balance with the positive use of technology, we create schools and classrooms that maximize peer-to-peer and student-to-educator interaction, develop social skills in interpersonal communication, and positively impact academic growth and success, all while supporting student mental health.”

The guidance includes an emphasis on creating engaging spaces for learning to mitigate the negative impact that smartphones have on student learning, and considerations for specific policies and practices in elementary, middle, and high school based on developmental readiness and maturity.

Specific recommendations include appropriate roles and responsibilities for:

• Local and regional boards of education and administrators in policy development;
• School leaders and educators in ensuring consistent policy implementation and support for strengthening students’ interpersonal skills;
• Families and students in supporting and complying with the district policy and supporting students’ maintaining a healthy balance with technology; and
• Higher education institutions and the Connecticut State Department of Education in preparing and supporting educators, school leaders, administrators, and local and regional boards of education.

“The guidance adopted by the Connecticut State Board of Education takes a critical step toward creating learning environments that foster both academic excellence and well-being,” Erin Benham, acting chair of the Connecticut State Board of Education, said . “Technology, when used purposefully, can enhance learning and connection, but we must also protect our students from the potential negative impacts of excessive and unrestricted use. This policy can help schools strike that balance, supporting students in a way that prepares them for success in learning and in life.”

Patrice McCarthy, executive director and general counsel of the Connecticut Association of Boards of Education (CABE), said , “CABE has appreciated the opportunity to collaborate with the Connecticut State Department of Education in developing this policy guidance. We look forward to supporting school boards as they address this important issue through local policy development.”

“Teachers are increasingly competing with cell phones for attention from their students and are seeing more students experiencing mental health crises triggered by their interaction with social media.” Kate Dias, president of the Connecticut Education Association said. “We welcome the Connecticut State Department of Education’s initial guidance and look forward to working with our local districts to create strong, clear, and enforceable policies that minimize the use of cell phones and meet the needs of educators, students, and parents.”

“The Connecticut Association of Schools’ member principals strive to foster an engaging learning environment for all students,” Glenn Lungarini, executive director of the Connecticut Association of Schools and the Connecticut Interscholastic Athletic Conference, said . “Adopting the Connecticut State Department of Education guidance on personal technology use supports school-based efforts to enhance learning experiences through appropriate technology use while countering technology's potential distractions and negative impacts on students.”

Personal Statement - Fashion

Fashion personal statement.

So I might not be writing this how I am supposed to but it might be a change. I've noticed that they spell glue differently depending on what brand you purchase, what's that about? I think this could be some brilliant discovery in which my name should go down in history.

I feel as though fashion is in my blood, my Grandmother worked as a tailoress for 55 years (yeah I know it's a cliché), I was always fascinated watching her transfer a 'bit' of paper, into a beautifully made garment. She'd sit for hours hand sewing wedding dresses. This led to my huge interest in fashion and the way it works; University I feel would allow me to meet new people, spread my wings and learn more about what I love as well as experiencing something totally new.

Throughout my current course I've developed the skills I already have and learnt various new skills, the one that I took almost an immediate shine to was pattern cutting; turns out I'm pretty good at it. I have found garment construction more challenging but I continue to enjoy pushing myself in this area. I also enjoy the development from concept to catwalk, showing how everyday things can have such a heavy influence on fashion. Contextual studies helped me expand my knowledge with the discovery of several historical designers whose work is often too easily forgotten, even though it is constantly reflected in fashion today.

For some of my summer holidays I volunteered at Abundant Life Centre, helping them set up for events, working on the doors registering people and being on stage management as well as working developing the media used such videos and images. One of the main things I did was to help prepare for a huge youth event: 'Rocknations', in which around 2000 young people attended. I also helped with a variety of events working backstage dressing models and even became a model myself at charity fashion shows for 'Mercy Ministries'.

As well as fashion I take a great interest in computers; having developed several of my own websites with different features and software I have learnt to use an array of programs especially Photoshop and Illustrator on both PC's and Macs.

There are many cultural influence I use within my work, having visited many amazing cities such as Rome, Milan, Prague, Barcelona, Berlin, Florence, New York, Washington, Venice, to the spectacular festivals such as Las Fallas (Festival of Fire) in Valencia and amazing views from Mont Blanc to seeing places in which horrific tragedy's happened at Auschwitz and Birkenau in Poland.

Well that is me in a nutshell, a very small nutshell and my passion for the whole thing, I'm sure there is a word to describe it all, maybe I'll learn what it is in HE.
