If you wanted Daft Punk, but something original, lets go back to the beginning. In ‘97, Britpop (a fusion of British music and pop music) dominated the world. Basically, one year later, OK Go and Coldplay would form. Homework was a startler to some, and ravers were not ready for it. But this album has a few more surprises than it’s tongue-in-cheek manner.

“Alive” steps away from sampled music, while “Da Funk” , with its fusion of samples and house, made it one of the best-selling singles Daft Punk ever released, “Teachers” , with its fusion of rap and pop, stands classic, and was featured in many YouTube videos, while “Daftenedirekt” along with “Wdpk 83.7 FM” opened us up to the world of Daft Punk.

Most recognizable was the successful “Around the World” , which charted highly in many countries and had wide-reaching impacts on increasing Daft Punk’s popularity. The music video , which received heavy airplay on MTV, was helmed by the French director Michel Gondry and choreographed by Blanca Li.

In retrospect, this album is a bit raw and sounds way distinct than its successors, but it’s an instant classic to love and listen to for its more-than-1-hour duration.

While "Homework" isn't the most unique album, there is still plenty of fun to be had on this album! There are some groovy dance tracks on here like "Da Funk" and "Around The World" that are just incredible and some of my favorite dance tracks from the 90s. What feels like a fun and funky night on the town, the French House duo capture an insane amount of charm and vitality in what is on the surface an extremely simple and minimal listening experience.

Oooooh spicy time. This is easily one of my hottest takes. I wanted to go through Daft Punk’s stuff because I haven’t given some of their albums full listens yet, including their debut, Homework. this wasnt a bad album, i just wasnt using this as it is meant to be used: for dancing. its a good LP with some catchy tracks and really great production, i just cant find myself ever going back to this, unless i need dance music for whatever reason. for the time it was released, it's a big step for electronic music. but when i have many more options at my disposal now, this isnt what i would go to.

Daft Punk's "Homework" is easily one of the better records of the 90's, and even with a few disappointing tracks in the second half, it still has some amazing tracks that show just how much Daft Punk could do for a new band coming from some 22 and 23 year old boys who like to experiment with drum machines. Anyways, this is a great French house record. A very raw one too.

For example: Da Funk isn't really well-quantized and I think it makes the song go way harder than if it were quantized.

An EDM classic, Daft Punk’s debut, “Homework” is groovy as all hell with plenty of playful, funky sounds while also experimenting with different genres. It can feel a bit filler-y and bloated at times, though.

"Homework" is an extremely experimental house album, it's loud and brutal thumps either make a track on here really danceable and enjoyable, or just go for something really loud and abrasive, but most of the time even that creates great songs.

Really good listen, but far far from a short one. After the phenomenal Around The World, Rollin' and Scratchin', and Rock 'n' Roll, I felt full, but then the French robots piled on 2 extra courses + desert! I was bouncing my leg throughout most of the first half, and slowly rocking back and forth in the second. Tiresome experience, but a fun one.

1997’s Homework was Daft Punk’s full-length breakthrough in the French house scene. It’s the home to two of the duo’s first big hits - “Da Funk”, by far the best song on here and an example of a dance track which is perfect in its construction and execution, and “Around The World”, an iconic track known for its infectious bassline and extremely repetitive hook. This is my favorite studio album by Daft Punk. Holy crap, this sounded like nothing ever heard before this, it's so different than any other record they've done, it's such an amazingly crafted, innovating, and fresh house record. Homework is the debut studio album by the French electronic music duo Daft Punk, released on 20 January 1997 by Virgin Records and Soma Quality Recordings. The duo produced the tracks without plans to release an album. After working on projects that were intended to be separate singles over five months, they considered the material good enough for an album.

Pedrada boa! Não perde o fôlego!

It's fallen a little bit for me since the last time I listened to it, but it's fun. The exact kind of music that you turn your brain off to, which sounds like a backhanded compliment, but it's true. You just let this course through you and have fun with the grooves.

Although not as strong as what might follow there is no harm in a band growing into itself and not burning out on their first album never to repeat the quality or standard again. This is a very good album - perhaps a little too long, but has some great tunes including Teachers - that is just amazing

Love how raw, chaotic and in your face this album is! Truly their best work and they never topped it. It's their most iconic sound. Phenomenal debut.

Daft Punk’s debut may be a little repetitive and derivative at times, but it’s still really creative and a lot of fun.

I haven't felt more frustrated waiting for an album to be over in my entire life. Up until "Around the World" I was enjoying it a little bit, but even then, I thought it was somewhat repetitive, but not in a good way. After that, I was pretty much done, and I don't think the album was half over by then. Don't get me wrong, I really like Daft Punk, but I just feel like this is just a collection of songs rather than an 'album' if that makes any sense. It's over an hour long, when it should've been around 50 minutes. "Da Funk" is great, "Around the World" is great, and maybe 'Alive' is alright, but by then, I was genuenly too tired to care. Discovery and Random Access Memories are much, much better albums.

It's a fine debut, but I pretty much agree with the consensus here: It sounds funky but is a bit monotonous, nonetheless they go onto much greater things.
