Symbol Logo Design
If you are looking for a stunning symbol logo for your business or project look no further. GraphicSprings’ logo creator provides access to a set of beautiful symbol logo templates. Any of our designs can be fully customized with just a few clicks. Invest five minutes of your time right now and create the perfect symbol logo design and download your files instantly.
Why use a symbol logo?
A symbol logo is a great way to represent your brand without using any words. A simple icon can be easier to remember than a long or complicated name, and it can be used across different mediums (web, print, etc.) with ease. Plus, a symbol logo can help you create a strong visual identity for your business.
Meaning of a symbol logo?
Your symbol logo should be representative of what your business does or what it stands for. For example, if you’re a travel company, you might want to use an image of a globe in your logo. Or if you’re an environmental company, you might want to use a green leaf as your icon.
Which colors should I use?
When choosing colors for your symbol logo, you’ll want to consider both the meaning of the colors and how they’ll work together. For example, red is a color that represents energy and excitement, while blue is often used to represent trust and stability. You’ll also want to make sure the colors you choose work well together and don’t clash.
Which fonts should I use?
For your symbol logo, you’ll want to choose a font that is simple and easy to read. A sans serif font like Helvetica or Arial will work well. You’ll also want to make sure the size of the font is large enough to be easily seen, even when it’s used at small sizes.
Which is the best layout for a logo?
When it comes to the layout of your symbol logo, you’ll want to keep it simple. An icon on its own can be enough to represent your brand. However, you can also add some simple text beneath the icon to make it more clear what your business does.
What makes a logo memorable?
A great symbol logo is one that is both visually appealing and easy to remember. When designing your logo, you’ll want to consider both of these factors. A simple, yet unique, icon can be easy for people to remember. And adding some color or using a unique font can help make your logo more visually interesting.
Where can I use my logo?
Your symbol logo can be used anywhere you want to represent your brand. This includes on your website, on business cards and other marketing materials, and even on clothing or promotional items.
Which files will I receive?
When you download your symbol logo from GraphicSprings, you’ll receive a ZIP file that includes high-quality JPG and PNG files for both web and print use. You’ll also receive a vector EPS file that can be resized without losing any quality.
Can I use the logo in print and on the web?
Yes! The files you receive from GraphicSprings can be used both in print and on the web. The high-quality JPG and PNG files are perfect for use on websites or in digital marketing materials. And the vector EPS file can be used for print projects like business cards or flyers.

Of course, you can seek input at any point in the process, but it is precious to get people’s reactions to your realized vision and reiterate from there.
Whew — still with us? We know this might seem a little overwhelming, but take it slow and don’t rush yourself.

- Abstract Logo Marks
Mascot Logos
Combination marks.
With millions of logos worldwide, you may be surprised that they all fit into one of seven main categories.
Each logo type has its characteristics, strengths, and weaknesses, so choose the variety that best aligns with your brand values and goals when designing your logo.
An emblem is a logo incorporating text within a symbol for a cohesive image, often conveying formality and tradition. It is strong and impactful, yet challenging to separate for integration and may not reproduce well in small sizes.
Pictorial marks, also known as logo symbols, are logo types that rely on a single image to represent a brand. These logos can be iconic and memorable and are effective at conveying a brand without text, yet may pose challenges in establishing brand recognition and connecting to the brand's purpose without words.
Wordmarks are text-based logos that use typography to turn the brand name into a logo, ideal for companies with unique names. They offer simplicity and integration ease, but may struggle to stand out or suit longer, less distinctive names.
Monogram logos, also called lettermarks, use initials to create a concise logo suitable for companies with longer names. They are easy to remember and scale, but may require displaying the full brand name initially for recognition and could be confused with other brands if the initials are similar.
Abstract Logomarks
Abstract logos, such as the Pepsi logo, are unique representations of brands using geometric forms and colors instead of real-life images. They are inherently unique and capable of communicating complex ideas through simple shapes and colors but may be open to misinterpretation due to their abstract nature and unclear meaning for unestablished brands.
Mascot logos feature illustrated characters to personify a brand with a fun and friendly image, ideal for brands seeking a light-hearted and family-friendly appeal. They offer an inviting and controllable brand storytelling approach but may not suit serious or corporate brands, and their complex design can pose challenges for reproduction at smaller sizes.
A combination mark integrates text with an icon, offering versatility by combining a brand name with a memorable symbol. This type of logo provides clarity in brand messaging but may become overly busy if not carefully designed and could face challenges in scaling down for smaller applications.
1. Keep it simple.
Simplicity is key in logo design. Aim for a clean, uncluttered design that communicates your brand identity as straightforwardly as possible. The goal is for viewers to recognize and understand your logo instantly.

Character Coat of Arms
Students create a coat of arms to represent their personal identity and values or design one to represent the character traits of the protagonist in a book they are reading.
Apps: Wixie ®
A coat of arms is a symbolic representation of an individual’s identity and values. As a student of character, your task is to create a new coat of arms that represents your identity! You can also create a coat of arms for a character in a book you are reading or a historic figure you are studying.
Talk to your class about symbols they find in the world around them. The American flag and eagle on our national seal are symbols most students study in first grade. Ask students if they can remember what the stars (states) and stripes on the flag (colonies) represent.
Ask your class to brainstorm other symbols in your classroom and community and talk about what they mean. Be sure students understand that we use visual symbols to represent ideas and communicate these ideas quickly.
You could also show students the Mitsubishi car symbol. Most of them will know it comes from a car, and many may even be able to tell you it is from a Mitsubishi. They probably don‘t know that Japanese families use a Kamon to represent themselves and that this is the Kamon for the Mitsubishi family.
Show students an example of a coat of arms. Medieval knights used a coat of arms to distinguish themselves from their opponents.
While there are many pieces to a coat of arms, and rules for the creation and approval of an official coat of arms, this lesson plan focuses on the colors and symbols used in the shield, the supporters, and the motto.
Have students look again at a coat of arms and discuss what they think the symbols on it might mean. Then, explore additional information about the meaning of common colors, symbols, and supporters used on a coat of arms. Revisit your earlier thoughts on the meaning of the symbols in the example.
Whether students are creating a coat of arms for a character from a book or for themselves, they should start by identifying key character traits the coat of arms should display. Use a graphic organizer, like a cluster to help students identify and record the traits they want to symbolize on their coat of arms.
Try creating graphic organizers with your students in Wixie.
As they identify words that describe traits and values, have students consider the meaning of different colors and symbols, and choose which ones they will use to symbolize the identity they want to convey.
Give students a general outline or suggestion for what their coat of arms should include. You can show students simple shapes or share a template like the Coat of Arms or Family Shield activities in the Wixie Activities library.
If students are creating a coat of arms as an all about me project, you might want to specify what elements they put in each area. For example, ask them to include a symbol to represent their favorite food, hobby or special talent, their family, etc. Having consistent symbols across a class will help students get to know one another.
Telling students what to include removes student agency and thinking in the project. If you do want to boost thinking and student voice, have a class discussion before creating to determine as a class what types of symbols or representations students think should be included or defined for each location on the shield.
If students are creating a coat of arms to represent a character in a book, leave the process more open-ended so the students have to think more deeply about which traits they are sharing the symbolism that goes into them. The motto area is another great way to get students to think about a character’s motivations and values.
You could also have them add Supporters to their coat of arms. These are the animals that stand to each side of the shield to support it. These are also chosen for symbolic value.
Have students write a paragraph explaining the reasoning behind their use of colors and symbols, as well as why they chose a particular motto for their character. Their writing should describe their thinking during the process, not just be a description of what the image looks like. If student designs are digital, have them record information about the design into their file.
Print each student’s coat of arms and have them present their design to the class. During their presentation, students should explain how their choice of colors, symbols, and motto.
If students have designed a coat of arms for a literary character, print the coat of arms and display in your library or media center to advertise books containing these characters. Include URLs to the project, or create QR codes, so that interested students can hear an explanation.
Use the cluster organizers as a formative assessment tool. Have students share their descriptive words and images with you before they begin designing the actual coat of arms so that you can identify comprehension misconceptions and determine if you need provide additional instruction or discussion.
Use the printed shield and/or digital version with the audio recording as a summative assessment. You can use a rubric to help them better understand how you will evaluate the appropriateness and effectiveness of the images, their explanation of their use of color and images, and if appropriate their choice of motto and supporters.

Symbols are visual emblems that stand for something else, such as a brand, message, or person. [1] X Research source A successful symbol is visually striking and easy to recognize, like the skull and crossbones symbol, which represents something poisonous. You do not need a high level of artistic skill to produce an effective symbol. Symbols can be produced in various ways and may even include text, which is also known as a logo. After you create your symbol or logo, you may even want to trademark it to use it for your business.
Developing an Image for Your Symbol
- Keep in mind that your symbol does not need to be a literal representation of your product, but it should have a strong connection with your brand. For example, having a shoe as your symbol might be too literal if your product is shoes. Instead, you might represent what the shoes allow wearers to do with your symbol, such as run faster or enjoy the outdoors more.
- If you are designing a personal symbol, then focus on images or objects that might represent important aspects of your personality, heritage, or the message that you want to send. For example, if you are Irish you might incorporate the shamrock or some elements of Celtic design into your symbol. [2] X Research source
- As you sketch, try to keep your goals for the symbol in mind. What message do you want to send?
- Try showing your sketches to different people and see which one they prefer. Make sure to ask them why they prefer this image as well. You can use the input to adjust your symbol if needed.
- Some examples of simple yet effective symbols include the Nike swoosh, the Olympic rings, and the Microsoft windows.
- If you are using multiple colors in your symbol design, then make sure that they complement one another. For example, you might chose two polar opposites such as black and white, or two shades of one color, such as light blue and dark blue. Other colors can be jarring if placed beside each other, such as orange and pink.
- Experts in the psychology of color argue that we have emotional responses to certain colors. [4] X Research source Consider this when choosing colors for your symbol. For example, red can signify energy, power, passion, anger, and blood. [5] X Research source
- Is it simple and appealing?
- Does it communicate your message well?
- Do the colors work?
- Is there anything (big or small) that you’d like to change about it?
Creating a Logo with Letters
- Before you get started, think about why you are creating a logo. For example, do you want to include a logo on your job application materials or personal website to help you stand out? [6] X Research source Or will this logo appear on your products?
- You should also consider who will be viewing your logo and for what purpose. What might appeal to this audience? For example, will the intended audience respond better to some modern-looking or something more traditional?
- If you decide to use an abbreviation, then you may need to add a symbol or a design element to make sure that your audience knows that the symbol represents you or your business.
- Try checking the fonts that are available in your word processing software or check out online databases of fonts for ideas and inspiration. [7] X Research source
- If you decide to use more than one font, try to keep the number of different fonts to a minimum. Experts recommend using just one or two.
- Adobe Illustrator is one of the most popular graphic design software programs.
- You are usually required to pay for these programs, but it might be a worthwhile investment if you need a high-quality logo or if you are planning to produce multiple logos.
- As with symbols, color is important. For example, if you are designing a logo for an all-natural face cream, then you might choose earth-tones to communicate to your audience that the product is natural and free of artificial ingredients. [8] X Research source
- In contrast, bright neon colors might send your audience the message that the product is more artificial or high-tech.
- Try joining the letters together in an aesthetically pleasing way. For example, you can use shared strokes to link the letters together.
- Make sure that the image is still recognizable if it is inverted as well.
- If you are using the logo for printed materials then print out the logo and look at it as it would appear on paper. This might help you to identify flaws easier than when you look at it on your computer screen.
- Try to find a designer who specializes in creating logos for your particular purpose. He or she may have some great ideas about what will work best for your needs. [9] X Research source
Registering Your Symbol or Logo
- Keep in mind that trademarks, copyrights, and patents protect different types of intellectual property. Trademarks are used to protect symbols, logos, and designs that distinguish your company’s products from your competitors. [11] X Trustworthy Source United States Patent and Trademark Office U.S. government agency responsible for registering and protecting patents and trademarks Go to source
- You can search for similar trademarks at: http://www.uspto.gov/trademarks-application-process/search-trademark-database
- Sound . Even if your logo is spelled differently than your competitor’s logo, the way the words in the logo sound can be grounds for rejecting a trademark application. For example, if your competitor’s product is called “J. Time,” you could not call your product “Jay Thyme.” These both sound the same when you say them.
- Appearance . Trademarks also cannot look the same. Therefore, you could not use “J. Time” as your logo with a different font. For a symbol, you could not use an image that looks similar to one of your competitors.
- Meaning . Logos cannot share meaning either. For example, you could not have a brand logo called “Fortunate” if your competitor’s logo bore the name “Lucky.” These words mean almost the same thing.
- Commercial Impression . You also cannot use a symbol or logo that might lead to confusion for your customers. For example, you could not use the same symbol as a competitor and just leave out the words in the logo. The image would confuse customers about whether or not the product was made by your competitor.
- You can file your application online by visiting: http://www.uspto.gov/trademarks-application-process/filing-online
- For the plus form and the reduced fee form, you will need to authorize email communication.
- You have to complete a full application for the plus form, which offers the lowest filing fee ($225).
- The TEAS regular form is ideal for those who do not want to complete the full application right away and do not want to receive correspondence via email. Expert Q&A
- Don't plagiarize or copy another person's symbol. Remember the best symbols are unique and distinctive! This will also get you into legal trouble if you plan to use the symbol or logo for business purposes. Thanks Helpful 0 Not Helpful 0

A Beginner's Guide to Gradient Logo Design
A gradient logo incorporates a gradient or a transition from one color to another. This logo format can add visual interest and depth to a design and represent a sense of progression or growth.
One reason for the popularity of gradient logos is the widespread use of flat design in modern graphic design. Flat design is a minimalist logo approach that uses simple, solid colors and clean lines to create a sleek and contemporary look. By adding a gradient to a flat design, designers can create a more visually exciting and dynamic logo while maintaining the simplicity and cleanliness of the flat design aesthetic.
This essential guide will cover the basics of gradient logo design , including graphic design concepts, examples, and references.
What is a gradient?
"Gradient" is a term that comes from mathematics and refers to the gradual increase or decrease in the value of any given quantity.
In graphic design, a gradient is a gradual transition from one color to another. And in modern design, gradient applications add visual interest and depth. Gradients can go on par with shapes, text, and other design elements and facilitate various ways to create different effects.
In most design software, you'd find two main types of gradients: linear and radial. A linear gradient transitions from one color to another in a straight line, while a radial gradient transitions from one color to another in a circular or elliptical pattern.
Gradients can be monochromatic also. This means gradients transition from one shade of a single color to another, or they can be polychromatic, which means they transition from one color to another. And the result is an eye-catching visual that adds depth, texture, and interest to your design.
Should you choose a gradient logo for your business?
Whether or not a gradient logo is suitable for your business depends on several factors, including the nature of your business, the intended use of the logo, and your brand's overall aesthetic.
One reason to choose a gradient logo is that it can add visual interest and depth to a design. A gradient color identity creates a sense of movement or progression that represents the growth or evolution of a business. A gradient logo can also be an excellent way to stand out from competitors, as it can be a unique and eye-catching element in a crowded market.
However, there are also some potential drawbacks to choosing a gradient logo. For example, gradients can be difficult to reproduce accurately on certain materials, such as signage or embroidered clothing. In addition, gradients can sometimes make text challenging to read, mainly if the gradient is applied. A more straightforward, solid-color logo may be more effective in these cases.
Ultimately, choosing a gradient logo for your business should be based on your specific needs and goals. And in the modern setting, a gradient logo will help differentiate your business from others.

Some tips for designing a gradient logo
By following these tips, you can create a gradient logo that is visually appealing and effective in communicating your brand message.
Choose the right gradient tool: Most graphic design programs have gradient tools that you can use to create a gradient logo. Make sure you understand how to use the gradient tools in your chosen program, and experiment with different settings and options to find the best gradient for your design. If you need an AI-powered gradient logo maker, try logoai.com.
Select the right colors: The colors you choose for your gradient logo will significantly impact the overall look and feel of the design. Consider the color scheme of your brand, and choose colors that complement each other and reflect the tone and personality of your business.
Adjust the direction and intensity: The gradient's direction and intensity affect the design's overall look and feel. Experiment with different settings to find the proper gradient for your logo.
Please keep it simple: A gradient logo should complement your design's other elements and not overpower your brand's overall aesthetic. Avoid using too many colors or too much gradation in your logo. Complex gradients can make the design difficult to comprehend.
Test the logo in different contexts and backgrounds: Before finalizing your gradient logo, test it in other contexts, such as on your website, social media, or marketing materials. Also, ensure your gradient logo works well in dark and light backgrounds. This will help you ensure that the gradient is legible and effectively communicates your brand message.
