ESSAY ON "IMPORTANCE OF MUSLIM UNITY"

The word "unity" is derived from the word "unit" which means "one". Simply, we can call a nation united when all the people of that particular nation have the same beliefs, ideas, and thoughts and they work together in peace and harmony.

We all know that unity is strength ; it is one of the essential components of a strong nation. Great things can be achieved if there is unity among the people.

Similarly, the Muslims need unity . It is very important for Muslims to have unity among them. This can lift them higher. It can make them progress.

Muslims need to work together with loyalty , patriotism , and spirit of hard work so that they can make their economy strong. If Muslims trade among each other and work for welfare, this can help in building strong economy.

Apart from this, unity can save the Muslims from enemy attacks. A single person can be easily distracted or attacked. But a large group of people are hard to overcome. In the same way, Muslims must stay together with love and sympathy, they should avoid minor disputes and quarrels so that they’ll be strong and no other nation would be able to attack or overcome them.

In past, Muslims were superior and prosperous due to unity and understanding . But now they have split apart due to which other nations are overtaking them.

Unity has much significance and if Muslims unite again, work together, and ignore minor disagreements, they can regain their position.

NOTE : This essay is especially written for  class 9,  class  10,  class  11 and  class  12 . This  ESSAY ON "IMPORTANCE OF MUSLIM UNITY"  contains only  200 words .

Essay, Paragraph, Speech on “Muslim” Essay for Class 9, Class 10, Class 12 Class and Graduate Exams.

The question is: Who is a Muslim? The answer is: Any person who professes the religion of Islam is a Muslim. The requirements to profess Islam are: (1) Belief in unity of God (Allah) and (2) the acceptance of prophetic character of Muhammad. To say it in Arabic

LA-ELAHA ILLA-ALLAH, MUHAMMAD UR RASOOL ALLAH

(La = No, Ela-ha = a God/any God, Ilia = Except, Allah = The God, Mohammad = Name, Rasool = Messenger)

(There is no any God except the God and Muhammad is His (God’s) messenger)

This is an indispensable minimum belief. A belief in excess of this is redundancy for the purposes of law. Although, strictly according to Islam, there may be many other requirements for calling one to be a true Muslim but the Courts have not accepted them as the requirements of Muslim. Because, the courts are not concerned with the peculiarities in beliefs like offering of number of prayers, manner and method of offering prayers, believing or not believing the first three Caliphs etc. Therefore, so long as the minimum belief exists, it must be held that person is a Muslim.

Testing on this measure rod, we find that despite peculiarities in beliefs, certain communities like Bohras, Khojas, Shiites (Shias) are treated as Muslims. In one landmark case it was contended that Shias (Shia) who use abusive language against the first three Caliphs, are not true Muslims and should not be allowed to pray in a Sunni Mosque. It was held: first of all, a mosque belongs neither to Sunnis nor to Shias. Secondly, as Shias accept the belief in one God and prophetic character of Muhammad, they come within the pair of Islam and hence they are very much Muslims. In another landmark case a Moplah husband became an Ahmedia. Moplahs are strict Muslims whereas Ahmedias are not. Hence, when the husband became Ahmedia, it was taken as if he had renounced Islam. According to Islam, change in religion would severe marital tie. The woman, under these circumstances, married another man.

Thereupon, it became a matter of public importance to the Muslim community; some holding that there was no bigamy whereas the Ahmedias always claiming to be Muslims asserted that this was a clear case of bigamy. On prosecuting wife for bigamy, the lower court held that conversion (to the Ahmedia faith being considered by generality of Muslims as an act of Apotasy) has the effect of severing the martial tie and hence the second marriage by wife was not bigamy.

The High Court then held that conversion to Ahmed ism is not an act of apostasy on the part of a Muslim and therefore the second marriage by the woman was bigamy on her part. For our purposes, the paramount question is: Would peculiarities in belief in any sect, take away that sect from the fold of Islam? The answer provided by the High Court is that it does not. The ruling of the Court in that case shows that in order to find out whether one is a Muslim or not, the only test that is to be applied is: Belief in Unity of God and Acceptance of the Prophetic Character of Muhammad.

It is not necessary that a person should be born Muslim, it is sufficient if he is a Muslim by profession. Thus we have Muslims by birth and by conversion.

If a person is born Muslim, presumption is that he is a Muslim until he renounces Islam. Indeed, mere adoption of some Hindu forms of worship would not tantamount to renunciation of Islam. Therefore, if a person is Muslim by birth, what is most important is unequivocal renunciation of Islam. According to strict Islamic law, if one of the parents either mother (female) or father (male) is Muslim; the child is treated as Muslim.

However, in India, child is presumed to belong to the religion of his father. Therefore, in India, even if mother is Muslim child is not treated as Muslim. When a person is not Muslim, he can still be a Muslim by embracing the religion of Islam. He will be a convert Muslim in contradistinction to Muslim by birth. Because, according to theory of religion depends upon belief; a believer may renounce Islam, just as an unbeliever may accept Islam. The question therefore, would be: when we can say that a man has either accepted Islam or rejected it? No hard and fast rule is laid down. However, it is essential that there must be a declaration of formal conversion to Islam and (2) conversion must not be colourable.

The Importance of Unity in Islam

  • November 12, 2024

Panoramic paper cut-style illustration showing diverse children standing together in unity, symbolizing the importance of community in Islam. Designed with a scrapbook look, torn edges, and Noor Academy’s colors of turquoise, pink, yellow, and light blue, this image highlights Islamic values of togetherness, compassion, and support among Muslims

Unity in Islam is a core principle that brings Muslims together as one Ummah or community. This sense of togetherness is like a strong thread connecting all the believers, creating harmony and compassion among Muslims across the world. Islam encourages us to be united, support one another, and be respectful to everyone, including non-Muslims. When we hold firmly to the rope of Allah, we strengthen ourselves and our communities.

In this article, we’ll explore what unity in Islam truly means, why it is important, and practical ways children can practice unity at school and at home. By learning about unity, children will build strong relationships, appreciate diversity, and grow up with values that promote peace and togetherness.

Understanding the Concept of Islamic Unity in Islam

In Islam, unity is much more than just working together. It is a reflection of our faith in Allah and a commitment to living as one united body. The Quran beautifully emphasizes unity, as seen in the verse:

“And hold firmly to the rope of Allah all together and do not become divided.” (Quran 3:103)

This verse underscores the importance of Muslim unity, urging believers to stand together and avoid division. This verse reminds us that Allah wants believers to be united, respecting, and caring for each other. When Muslims stand together as one Ummah and obey Allah, they support each other, help one another in difficult times, and work toward common goals. This unity does not erase our differences; instead, it celebrates diversity within a shared purpose, as all believers worship one God, Allah.

Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) often taught about unity. He said, “The believers in their mutual kindness, compassion, and sympathy are just like one body. When one limb aches, the whole body reacts with sleeplessness and fever.”

This hadith highlights how every Muslim is connected, just as parts of a body are connected. This hadith also reminds us that Islam is one religion meant to unite all believers under the worship of one God, Allah. When one person is hurt, it affects the entire community, so we should always be there for each other.

Why Teaching Unity to Children is Essential

Teaching children the value of unity is crucial for their personal growth and social development. Unity helps them understand empathy, respect, and kindness. Children who practice unity develop strong friendships and learn to resolve conflicts peacefully. It also teaches them not to lose courage when they face challenges, as they know they are part of a bigger community that supports them.

By embracing unity, children grow up to appreciate all people, whether they are fellow Muslims or non-Muslims. They learn that all human beings are worthy of respect. Practicing unity allows children to make friends from different backgrounds and see themselves as part of a larger community, connected by shared values and principles.

Unity in Islam also teaches children to value cooperation over competition, promoting a peaceful life where they aim to bring harmony wherever they go. By learning to worship Allah together, children understand the communal aspects of their faith and the importance of unity in their religious practices. When children understand unity, they see how working together helps solve problems and make the world a better place for everyone. In a world with many differences, unity brings a sense of belonging and strength.

The Role of Muslim Organizations in Promoting Unity

Fostering Unity Across Diverse Backgrounds and Cultures

Muslim organizations play a vital role in promoting unity among Muslims worldwide. These organizations work tirelessly to bring together Muslims from various backgrounds, cultures, and sects, fostering a sense of unity and cooperation.

Creating Platforms for Dialogue and Collaboration

One of the key ways Muslim organizations promote unity is by providing platforms where Muslims can come together to discuss important issues affecting the Muslim community.

These platforms offer opportunities for individuals to share their experiences, ideas, and perspectives, fostering collaboration on solutions to common challenges.

Promoting Islamic Education and Awareness

In addition to fostering dialogue, Muslim organizations play a crucial role in promoting Islamic education and awareness. They offer a variety of educational programs and resources to help Muslims deepen their understanding of their faith and live according to Islamic principles.

By enhancing Islamic knowledge and appreciation, these organizations help create a sense of unity and shared identity, reinforcing the idea that all Muslims are part of a single Ummah .

Advocating for Social Justice and Human Rights

Many Muslim organizations are also committed to promoting social justice and human rights for both Muslims and non-Muslims. They advocate for the rights of all individuals, striving for peaceful coexistence and understanding across communities.

By championing social justice, these organizations contribute to building a more just and equitable society, fostering unity and cooperation among all human beings.

Strengthening Bonds within the Muslim World

Through their dedicated efforts, Muslim organizations play a pivotal role in strengthening the bonds of unity within the Muslim world. They work to create a cohesive, supportive Islamic community where Muslims feel connected, valued, and empowered.

By promoting unity, education, and justice, Muslim organizations help build a more inclusive and harmonious society, reinforcing the idea that Muslims across the globe are part of a single, united Ummah.

Ways to Foster Unity at School

School is a wonderful place for children to practice unity and experience the joy of teamwork. Here are some practical ways to encourage unity at school:

• Collaborative Projects : Teachers can assign group projects that promote teamwork. By working together, children can appreciate each other’s strengths and work towards common goals. These activities help them realize that they are more successful when they cooperate and support one another.

• Islamic Story Circles : Story circles where children gather to share stories from the Quran or the lives of the prophets can inspire a sense of unity. When children listen to tales of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) and his companions, they learn about kindness, patience, and respect. These story circles are a fun, interactive way for children to understand the basic principles of Islam.

• Celebrating Diversity : Schools can encourage children to share aspects of their own cultures or traditions. This promotes inclusivity and allows children to appreciate each other’s backgrounds. They see that, while they may come from different cultures or even different Muslim sects, they all belong to the same Ummah.

• Classroom Pledge for Unity : Teachers can introduce a classroom pledge focused on unity, respect, and kindness. Reciting this pledge together every morning reminds children of their responsibility to treat everyone with kindness, as brothers and sisters in Islam.

•Community Service Projects : Organizing service projects, like helping the elderly or collecting donations, can teach children about unity beyond the classroom. They learn that unity means supporting everyone in their community, including those in need.

To further encourage unity in schools, Noor Academy offers programs that help children learn Islamic values in a supportive environment. For more resources, visit Noor Academy’s programs .

Encouraging Unity at Home

The home is the first place where children learn about unity and cooperation. Here are some ways parents can foster unity within the family:

Fun Activities and Games that Teach Unit y

Children learn best when they are having fun, so here are some exciting activities that promote unity:

• Treasure Hunts : Set up a treasure hunt where children work in teams to solve clues. This game shows them that by cooperating and listening to each other, they can reach their goal faster.

• Building Projects : Let children work together to build a project, like a LEGO tower or a mini fort. Building something together teaches patience, problem-solving, and the joy of teamwork.

• Role-Playing Islamic Stories : Choose a story from the Quran and let the children act it out. For example, they can role-play the story of Prophet Musa (AS) leading his people with courage and faith. Through role-play, they learn the value of cooperation, leadership, and empathy.

• Unity Exercises at Family Gatherings : During family gatherings, organize a group activity that requires everyone’s participation, such as a group art project or a cooking activity. This helps children see that working together as a family brings joy and strengthens bonds.

By making these activities part of daily routines, children learn that practicing unity can be both fun and meaningful.

Challenges and How to Overcome Them

While unity is essential, children may face challenges when learning to embrace it. They may encounter peer pressure, misunderstandings, or even disagreements. Here are some strategies to help children overcome these challenges:

• Teach Patience and Understanding : Unity requires patience and respect for differences. Remind children to listen calmly and respect others’ opinions, even if they disagree. Teach them that unity means choosing peace over arguments.

• Encourage Problem-Solving : When conflicts arise, guide children to find solutions together. Help them express their feelings in a calm way and focus on working things out rather than getting upset.

• Model Unity : Children learn by watching the adults around them. By showing patience, kindness, and empathy, you set an example that they will want to follow.

• Strengthen Their Resilience : Teach children that unity sometimes requires resilience and the ability to handle differences gracefully. Remind them that Allah values their efforts to stay united and encourages them to support each other, even when it’s challenging.

Conclusion:

Unity in Islam is a powerful force that brings Muslims together as one family, or Ummah. When we teach children the importance of unity, we guide them toward becoming compassionate, supportive individuals who contribute positively to their communities. Practicing unity teaches children to value kindness, empathy, and understanding.

Through unity, children find joy in working together, respecting diversity, and growing closer to Allah. May Allah guide us all in raising children who carry the beautiful values of unity and kindness in their hearts.

Islam means mankind’s complete submission to the will of Allah Almighty alone. It is a religion of peace, unity, brotherhood, justice, truth and purity. Being a religion of peace and unity, it has come to unite the world and delivers humanity from exploitation, oppression and injustice. The Holy Quran enjoins unity among Muslims considering all of them one nation.

“And hold fast the rope of Allah and not be divided.” (The Holy Quran)

Muslims achieved glory and success with deep faith in Allah and His last Prophet SAW. The early Muslims spread Islam with love and humanity. They contributed to all the realms of knowledge with unity in their ranks. They because the rulers, the guides, the leaders and the trendsetters. The whole humanity admitted and admired their greatness and glory. With unity in their ranks, they can again make this hollow, derailed and inhumane wasteland in earthly paradise of peace, progress and prosperity.

It is painful to admit that the Muslim Ummah is totally disunited these days. The Muslims lack unity, discipline and harmony in their ranks. They are falling away from Islam. Their pleasure in scholastic quibbles, their negligence to seek knowledge, their denial of free thought, their distrust on reason, sectarian dissensions, racial and tribal allegiances, political instability, disunity and corruption have always contributed to their downfall. Internal troubles external wars and consequences against them intensify their disunity and put them in a quagmire.

The Muslim Ummah, in spite of its rich resources, lags in every walk of life. Muslims posses no veto power. They dance to the tunes of other countries. They seem totally helpless. Other nations are exploiting and humiliating them. They are the victims of so called war against terrorism. They are considered fanatics, fundamentalists and criminals. They are watching Israeli and Indian atrocities on the Muslim as silent spectators. There is no doubt that their honour, character identity, ideology and even survival is at stake due to their disunity.

Unity of the Muslim Unity is essential to maintain its freedom, progress, stability, survival and to regain its past glory and prestige. All obstacles that stand in the way of Muslim unity should be studied and removed. Muslims must have their own financial institutions, defense production units, welfare organizations, charters, etc. Muslims are not directed against any party but they will bring peace, progress and stability in this disturbed world. With unity in their ranks, the Muslims will not only become a great nation but also remove exploitation, injustice, ignorance, cruelty, darkness and hopelessness from the world. Their unity will raise their status in the customs of nations.

“The believers in their mutual love, mercy and compassion, are like one body:

If one organ complained, the rest of the body develops a fever.”   (The Holy Prophet SAW)
