Understanding the Purpose of a Thank You Speech is essential. It’s about acknowledging the audience and connecting the gesture to a bigger picture.
Starting your thank you speech by acknowledging the audience sets a welcoming tone . You show them their presence matters. Say something like, “I’m thrilled to see so many familiar faces here today.” This makes everyone feel included and important right from the start.
You must also recognize the effort people made to attend . Mention, “Your support by just being here is greatly appreciated.” It instantly connects you with your listeners , making your words more impactful.
Acknowledging the audience isn’t just polite; it’s crucial for making your speech memorable and engaging.
When expressing gratitude, connect the gesture of thanks to a bigger purpose or impact . Show how the act of thanking someone is part of a larger cycle of kindness and support in our lives.
By linking the gesture and reward to a wider context , such as the impact on your work, relationships, or community, you create a more meaningful and resonant thank you speech that goes beyond simple words of appreciation.

Another in my series using ready made speech templates to prepare your presentation. This time around we are going to look at giving a “Thank You” speech.
When you are asked to give a “thank you” speech you should clarify whether this is expected to be a speech or a vote of thanks remembering a vote of thanks is usually only used in a formal meeting (this being a meeting where office bearers run the meeting and motions for action are passed by proposers and seconders for example).
They are two different speeches.
Some situations will require a formal thank you often called a “vote of thanks”. This is usually part of a meeting and thus will follow the meeting conventions of proposing and seconding. Your vote of thanks then becomes a motion – “I move a vote of thanks to …………. (name of person) for …………. (activity just completed).” Someone else from your group should be ready to second the motion , then the chairman will ask for a vote.
“THANK YOU FOR……”
When providing thanks for a task well done (whether it’s pledging money for a sponsorship deal or serving dinner) your speech needs to be specific and relevant because all of us are more interested in ourselves than others.
“JUST SAY A FEW WORDS”
Your thank you speech should be more than 2 minutes but not more than 4 minutes. It is an occasion for you to express the gratitude (thanks) of your organization to another individual or organization for the part they have played.
Apart from the actual subject of your speech, the two main issues to consider when you are preparing and practising this speech, are STRUCTURE and TIMING .
Structure Make sure you have a beginning, a middle and an end to your speech. Use the format:
Find out how long you are expected to speak. Write your speech with peak attention and comprehension time in mind – for a 4 minute talk, you will have 3 minutes of peak attention from your audience.
Audiences generally need more time to settle at the start of a speech than at the end.
Here is a ready made template I have prepared for you to use for a thank you speech.
On behalf of all present, I am honoured to be expressing our thanks for ……….We greatly appreciate ………………….In thanking you for …………………….
Now let’s take it apart piece by piece so you can write your thank you speech.
On behalf of all present, I am honoured to be expressing our thanks for ……….
On behalf of all present, I am honoured to be expressing our thanks for your interesting and informative presentation today.
This is a standard thank you speech.
If you are not used to public speaking, this can help you get your speech started and if you are overcome by nerves and forget everything else you were going to say, at least you have thanked someone!
You can offer a degree of respect by showing your feelings. Be specific about the occasion and something from the activity/presentation.
On behalf of all present, I am honoured to be expressing our thanks for your interesting and informative presentation today. I know we have all been given food for thought particularly the issues you brought to our attention about waste in the office.
We greatly appreciate ………….
We greatly appreciate both your knowledge of the subject and the way in which you made it relevant for us today.
In thanking you for ……………….
In thanking you for speaking to us, I ask everyone to join with me in showing their appreciation by acclamation.
Here now is the complete speech:
On behalf of all present, I am honoured to be expressing our thanks for your interesting and informative presentation today. I know we have all been given food for thought particularly the issues you brought to our attention about waste in the office. We greatly appreciate both your knowledge of the subject and the way in which you made it relevant for us today. In thanking you for speaking to us, I ask everyone to join with me in showing their appreciation by acclamation.
Perhaps you would like to write your own speech. Here I have some questions to answer to help with the content of your speech.
ASK CONTENT and OCCASION QUESTIONS
• WHO • WHY • WHAT • WHERE • HOW
Content Questions
WHO IS THE RECIPIENT? WHOM DO I REPRESENT? I know it seems silly, however you don’t want to get a name wrong….
WHY ARE YOU MAKING THE SPEECH? Is it a responsibility of your position, are you speaking on behalf of a group?
WHAT IS THE TOPIC? WHAT WAS THE BEST THING ABOUT THE PRESENTATION or SERVICE?
WHERE ARE YOU MAKING THE SPEECH?Do you know the location well, can you have a practice run, will there be other distractions?
Occasion Questions
WHO IS IN THE AUDIENCE? You must think about the audience so that your speech includes them or they will lose interest
WHY ARE THEY THERE? Are they there by choice? Is there a mix of associates? What are they expecting from this occasion?
WHAT IS THE OCCASION? Is this a once a year occasion ? Is this one of a series of occasions? Is this a formal or intimate occasion?
WHERE ARE YOU MAKING THE SPEECH? Think here about the physical location as well as the “what” of the occasion (look at the previous question again!)
First we read the complete speech out loud to give us a base time. Then we review that time to see how it matches the time we have been allocated. Add more content if you are short, remove some content if you are already over time.
Now we’re ready to start practising your speech for presentation to an audience BECAUSE you haven’t done all this work just to read your speech….you are going to present it.

There are many ways to show someone that you appreciate them. You can buy them a gift. You can write them a thank-you note. And in some cases, you can give a speech in their honor. There are plenty of occasions when you may find yourself in a position to give an appreciation speech.
If you’re graduating from high school or college, you might give a speech thanking friends and family members for their support.
If you own a business, you might tell your employees “ thank you for your support ” as part of a speech. Speeches can also be a great way to say “ I appreciate you ” to the people in your life who support you.
Here, we break down the steps that go into crafting an excellent appreciation speech. We also include excerpts of speeches from an assortment of occasions and audiences to draw inspiration from.
Your speech will depend on a variety of factors. But the most important ones to consider are the setting and the crowd. If your speech is a casual toast between friends over a bottle of wine, it will be a lot more casual.
You can rely on personal anecdotes and the language you use will be more personal. If you’re giving a formal speech in front of colleagues though, your tone will be very different. Your speech will be a lot more structured and concise.
Whether your appreciation speech is long or short, it’s always a good idea to craft an outline ahead of time. This will help you make sure you don’t forget to mention anything you want to cover. Overall, most speeches will break down like the following:
Start with a strong opening line. In a more formal speech, a quote about gratitude can be an excellent way to set the tone. In a more casual speech, you can avoid a quote. However, you should still stick with the theme of gratitude.
In casual and formal speeches alike, you should feel free to be specific. If you’re giving a speech in honor of one person, you can list all of the things they do that deserve appreciation. If you’re thanking other people for their support, you can list the ways they helped you.
Personal anecdotes are a lot more engaging for listeners. They will also help you feel more connected to your material. The more connected you feel, the more confident you’ll be in speaking. These personal anecdotes can be funny, poignant, or a blend of the two. Again, this will largely be dictated by your audience and the setting of your speech.
For a casual speech like an appreciation toast, you can probably get away with speaking off the cuff. But any kind of pre-planned appreciation speech definitely benefits from repeated practice.
The more comfortable you are with the speech, the easier it will be for you to deliver it. If you don’t know your speech inside and out, there’s a good chance that you can be tripped up by certain words or turns of phrase.
When you’re practicing your speech, you should also be timing yourself. This means you should have a stopwatch going while you read your speech aloud. Speeches can be deceptive.
A few pages don’t seem like they should take that long to read. If you only read them over in your head, that can reinforce the notion that your speech isn’t that long. But it takes a lot longer to read something aloud than it does reading it to yourself.
If you don’t practice it out loud ahead of time, you may panic in the middle of your actual delivery. If you fear your speech is taking too long, you might start to read faster and faster, which could make the speech incomprehensible. Practicing it out loud can help you hit your ideal time target without having to rush.
Even if you’ve practiced your speech until it’s practically etched into your brain, you always want to keep notes or an outline with you. No matter how much you practice, you may find yourself freezing up in the moment. If you don’t have notes handy, you might flounder. On the other hand though, you also shouldn’t keep your whole speech with you.
If you do, you might find yourself relying on it like a security blanket. You may end up just reading the whole speech straight from the paper without engaging with your audience at all. Both ends of the spectrum are too extreme, so it’s best to find a happy medium. Some people just keep their outline with them.
Other people write out the first sentence of each paragraph to jog their memory and help them orient themselves. As you practice, you’ll find the method that works best for you.
Practicing for a speech on your own is important. But once you feel more comfortable with the speech, you should practice in front of someone. Ideally, you’ll rehearse it in front of people several times until you can keep your nervous responses in check.
This means delivering the speech without your heart racing and your speech speeding up to match.
Every time you practice your speech, you should be refining it until you can’t improve it any further. One of the big things you should be looking out for is your usage of filler words or speech disfluencies.
Speech disfluencies encompass those little noises like “um”, “er”, and “uh” that we tend to use when we aren’t confident. These can make people tune out because your discomfort makes them feel awkward in turn.
As you practice, pay attention to places where you’re inserting those disfluencies. Keep practicing them until you become comfortable enough to leave them out. Or, rewrite those sections so they come to you more naturally.
Above all else, remember that this speech is intended to be a positive thing. An appreciation speech should make someone’s day .
Remember to end the speech by reaffirming specifically why you are showing appreciation.
Now that we’ve gone into what makes a good appreciation speech, let’s see some examples. These are just excerpts from longer speeches, but they may help demonstrate the sort of content you might be looking for.
“As I look around at all my classmates, I realize how much I appreciate you all. Many of us have relied on each other to make it through school and to our graduation day. We supported each other during tough times. We used each other’s examples to fuel us towards getting better grades. When someone was in danger of not graduating, we pulled together to get everyone to the finish line. We all owe a lot to our families for their support. But we should also be sure to appreciate ourselves.”
“I’d like to take a moment to raise a glass in appreciation for Bethany. Everyone here has one thing in common — Bethany’s friendship. She has always had an uncanny knack for finding people in need of a community and bringing us together. From there, we’ve been able to find the other things that connect us. But if it weren’t for Bethany, most of us would have missed out on enriching, life-changing friendships. Bethany — here’s to you!”
“As the year draws to an end, I’m proud to announce that it’s the company’s strongest year yet. We have grown by leaps and bounds and still managed to maintain profitability. Our client satisfaction scores have never been higher. And each and every one of you has played a role in our success.
"I want to thank our sales division for going above and beyond in meeting our clients’ needs. I want to thank our marketing department for creating materials that are very transparent about our mission. I want to thank the managers for leading their divisions by example. I could stand up here and tell you a half dozen things I appreciate about every person in this room, but I’m sure you’re all ready to hit the buffet line. So I’ll conclude by saying that I appreciate all of your contributions, and am so proud to be on a team with each and every one of you.”
“Hello everyone! I’d like to thank all of you for coming here today in celebration of Grandma Joy and Grandpa Bill’s 50th wedding anniversary. As most of you know, I’ve never had a relationship last more than a year. Fifty years is an absolutely mind-boggling level of commitment to someone like me.
"There are so many reasons to love and appreciate Joy and Bill. There’s all the basic grandparent stuff. Joy taught me how to make amazing cookies and Bill taught me how to change a tire. But they also took me in when my home life was less than ideal. And when they realized some of my friends also had difficult lives at home, they opened up their den as a safe space. On any given day, you could find at least two or three misfit teenagers sleeping on their fold-out couch.
"Grandma and Grandpa, I’ll never be able to let you know how much I appreciate you. I know you probably don’t think you even did anything special. But you have made so many lives worth living thanks to your compassion and generosity. Thank you for always being there for others, just like you’ve been there for each other for five decades.”
There are many ways to show gratitude . An appreciation speech is just one of them. Whether you’re giving a short toast or a lengthy speech, you can communicate your gratitude for someone.
These steps and examples should help you craft an excellent speech. Ultimately though, just remember to be sincere and personal. That’s the real key to successfully showing appreciation.

Writing a thank you speech can be intimidating. It is challenging to remember all of the people who have helped you along the way. If you recently reached a personal, spiritual or career milestone, you may be wondering how to compose a ‘thank you’ speech. A ‘thank you’ speech needs to identify all of the people you are thankful for, as well as the specific things you are thankful for and their personal or professional meaning to you. While ‘thank you’ speeches are relatively straightforward, they can be tricky to write, especially if the list of people to thank is very large or very small.
Writing a thank you speech can seem intimidating, but if you make a list of the people you’re grateful to first, it should be relatively simple. Make a note of anyone who has helped you get to where you are now, whether professionally, supporting you emotionally, or giving you valuable advice. Order the list by how grateful you are to each person. When you write your speech, give the top few people more time and add a few details about how they helped you. Then, you can list the people further down the list together. For example, say, “And I also want to thank my colleagues, Peter, Ann, Zoe, and John.” Practice saying your speech out loud so you can keep it within the time limit. “Hello everyone, I am genuinely grateful to have this moment with you all, Today, I’m here to express my heartfelt thanks for the incredible support that I have been fortunate enough to receive. First and foremost, I want to recognize each one of you here. Your support has been a cornerstone in my journey. I would like to extend special thanks to my family, particularly my parents and my sister, for their unwavering guidance, encouragement, and resources that have paved the way for my achievements. My appreciation also goes out to my teachers and friends, whose collective support has been nothing short of amazing. Allow me to share a brief story that beautifully illustrates the impact your support has had on me. There was a time when I was overwhelmed with the demands of school projects and personal challenges. It was the encouragement I received from my mentor, Mr. Thompson, and the practical help from classmates that enabled me to not only complete my projects but also to excel in them. This experience was a testament to the power of community and the strength we draw from each other. Support comes in many forms, from a listening ear to a helping hand, and I’ve been blessed to experience this diversity through you all. The emotional and practical assistance I’ve received has not just aided me in challenging times but has also been a source of continuous inspiration. Together, we’ve overcome obstacles, turning each challenge into an opportunity for growth and learning. In closing, I reiterate my deepest and most sincere gratitude to each of you. Write a thank you speech for teachers at the end of the school year
Compose a thank you speech for volunteers who helped during the school festival.
Do you ever find yourself in a position where you need to deliver a thank you speech? Perhaps you've been asked to speak at an awards ceremony, a retirement party, or a wedding reception. Whatever the occasion, expressing gratitude is an important part of our interpersonal relationships. However, crafting an effective thank you speech can be challenging. In this article, we'll provide you with a step-by-step guide on how to write a short thank you speech that will leave a lasting impact on your audience.
Before we dive into the nitty-gritty of writing a thank you speech, it’s important to understand why they are essential. Expressing gratitude is at the heart of all human relationships, and a thank you speech is one way to show appreciation. Let's take a look at the three main purposes of a thank you speech:
The primary purpose of a thank you speech is to express gratitude. Whether you're thanking a group of people, an individual or an organisation, a thank you speech is an opportunity to express your sincere appreciation. It is important to note that expressing gratitude is not only beneficial to the person receiving it, but also to the person giving it. Studies have shown that expressing gratitude can improve mental health, increase happiness and improve relationships.
When expressing gratitude in a thank you speech, it is important to be specific. Mention the actions or contributions that the person or group has made that you are grateful for. This not only shows that you have taken the time to reflect on their efforts, but also makes the thank you speech more meaningful and personal.
Another purpose of a thank you speech is to acknowledge achievements. You might be thanking someone for their hard work, dedication, or contribution to a particular project or organisation. A thank you speech gives you the opportunity to highlight specific accomplishments and recognise the efforts of others.
Acknowledging achievements in a thank you speech not only shows appreciation, but also motivates the person or group to continue their hard work and dedication. It is important to note that acknowledging achievements does not have to be limited to professional accomplishments. Personal achievements such as overcoming a challenge or reaching a personal goal can also be acknowledged in a thank you speech.
Finally, a thank you speech can be used to celebrate a milestone. Perhaps you're thanking people for helping to organise a successful event or celebrating a particular milestone, such as an anniversary or a retirement. Whatever the occasion, a thank you speech can help you commemorate a special moment.
Celebrating milestones in a thank you speech not only shows appreciation for the people who helped make the milestone possible, but also allows everyone to reflect on the journey that led to the milestone. It can be a time to share stories, memories and experiences that brought everyone together to achieve the milestone.
In conclusion, a thank you speech is an important way to express gratitude, acknowledge achievements and celebrate milestones. Taking the time to write and deliver a heartfelt thank you speech can have a positive impact on both the person giving it and the person or group receiving it.
Now that you understand the purpose of a thank you speech, let's move on to the preparation phase. Here are three essential steps you should follow when preparing your thank you speech:
Before you start writing your speech, you need to consider your audience. Think about who you will be speaking to and what their expectations might be. Are they colleagues, friends, or family members? What is the occasion, and what is the tone of the event? Understanding your audience will help you tailor your message to their needs and expectations.
Next, make a list of the key points you want to include in your speech. Think about the purpose of your speech and what you want to say. Make a list of important people you want to thank, particular achievements or milestones to celebrate, and any other relevant information that you want to share.
Finally, consider the tone of your speech. Do you want it to be formal or informal? Do you want to use humour or keep it serious? Think about the occasion and your audience, and choose a tone that is appropriate.
Now that you have prepared the groundwork for your speech, it's time to start structuring it. Here are three essential steps to structure your thank you speech:
The opening of your speech sets the tone for the rest of your message. Start with a strong opening that grabs your audience’s attention and sets the tone for the rest of your speech. You can use a quote, anecdote, or a personal story to capture their interest.
Next, organise your main points. You want to structure your speech in a way that is easy to follow and understand. Start with the most important points and work your way down. You can use chronological order, a logical sequence or a thematic structure to help convey your message.
Finally, end your speech with impact. The conclusion should be memorable and leave a lasting impression on your audience. Restate your main points, thank your audience for their attention and conclude with a call to action or a memorable quote.
Now that you have the structure of your speech in place, here are three essential tips to help you write an effective thank you speech:
A short thank you speech is often the most effective. Keep your message concise, clear and to the point. You don't want to bore your audience with lengthy speeches, so keep it short and sweet.
Be sure to personalise your message. Use the names of people who have had an impact on your life and speak from the heart. This will make your message more memorable and help you connect with your audience on a deeper level.
Finally, use anecdotes and examples to illustrate your message. This will help your audience relate to your speech and make it more engaging. Stories are one of the most powerful ways to communicate your message, so use them to make your speech come alive.

A thank you speech is a heartfelt expression of gratitude that leaves a long-lasting impression on the audience. Whether you’re receiving an award, thanking your colleagues, or appreciating a loved one, a well-crafted thank you speech can make all the difference. This article will guide you through the process of writing an impactful thank you speech.
1. Understand your audience:
Before diving into the writing process, consider the audience you’ll be addressing. Knowing who will be listening will help tailor your message and ensure you make appropriate references that resonate with them.
2. Establish your purpose:
Determine the primary goal of your speech and what message you want to convey to your listeners. Are you thanking people for their support, acknowledging hard work, or expressing gratitude for a particular event? Clarifying your objective will provide direction for your speech.
3. Brainstorm and list key points:
Take some time to brainstorm and jot down all the crucial points you want to cover in your speech. These may include specific accomplishments, memorable moments, challenges overcome, or individuals who played significant roles in your success.
4. Organize the content:
With all your key points listed, start organizing them into a coherent structure. Sequence them logically and divide them into sections like introduction, body, and conclusion for optimal clarity.
5. Make it personal:
Personal stories are often the most memorable part of any speech. Include anecdotes that highlight particular individuals’ contributions or share how their support impacted you personally.
6. Express genuine gratitude:
Be sincere in expressing your appreciation and ensure that every word comes from the heart. Demonstrate your gratitude by acknowledging everyone’s unique contribution to your success.
7. Keep it concise:
Thank you speeches should ideally be brief and direct, lasting no more than a few minutes. Stick to the essential information without meandering or going off on tangents.
8. Add some humor (if appropriate):
Adding a touch of humor to your speech can make it more engaging and memorable. However, ensure that this humor is appropriate for the occasion and considerate of the audience you’re addressing.
9. Rehearse your speech:
Practice your speech multiple times before the actual event. This will help build your confidence and troubleshoot any potential issues in your delivery, such as pacing, tone, and emphasis.
10. Conclude with a strong closing statement:
End your thank you speech on a high note with an impactful closing statement. This could be a quote or personal sentiment that reinforces your message and leaves a lasting impression on the audience.
Remember, a well-crafted thank you speech showcases gratitude while making everyone in attendance feel appreciated for their support. By following these steps, not only will you compose an effective speech, but you’ll also strengthen relationships and leave an indelible mark on those who’ve helped you along the way.

Lastly, I would like to thank my family without whom none of this would have been possible.

Thank you, everyone, for taking out some time and being present on my 25 th birthday. I don’t mean to be a buzz killer, therefore, I’ll keep it short and simple. Birthdays make me realize how grateful I am to each and every one of you, who have played such an immense part in my life. I would like to thank all my friends, with whom I’ve shared innumerate memorable moments. My colleagues from work deserve a special thanks for teaching me so much in such a short time span. I would also like to thank my boss who has allowed me to take a day off on my special day and made time to grace this occasion. Lastly, I would like to thank my parents for their unconditional support and making this life possible for me.
There were some thank you speech samples for various occasions like wedding, birthday, retirement and many more. Hope these words give you an idea for your next remarkable speech.

A handwritten note is so much more meaningful than a generic store-bought card.
Thank you messages for wedding presents, birthday thank you messages, graduation thank you messages, thank you messages for help given.
Saying "thank you" in person is a great way to show your appreciation, but taking the time to sit down and write a thoughtful handwritten "thank you" note can express your gratitude in a more meaningful way.
While the etiquette is clear on the necessity of thank you cards, what goes inside can be a bit trickier. Sure, you can always buy a pre-written card at any store, with the sentiment still being very sweet, but a personalized "thank you" message really goes the extra mile to show someone you cherish their effort, time and ultimately, their sweet gesture.
While the best message to write in any kind of card is always a personalized one, we all need a little inspiration sometimes. Start with some of these sentiments, and then add an element that makes it your own.
Maybe that's a memory you share from the party where you received a gift, an inside joke from a vacation you went on together, or how you plan to use a monetary gift. Whatever it is, don't forget to seal it with love. And while it's best to send thank-you cards as soon as you can after a birthday, wedding, special event or meaningful favor, there's no expiration date on gratitude. Whenever you get to it, they'll appreciate the thought.

Ambassador Linda Thomas-Greenfield U.S. Representative to the United Nations New York, New York August 15, 2024 AS DELIVERED Thank you, Mr. President. And thank you, Special Envoy Grundberg and OCHA Director Doughten, for your informative briefings. Colleagues, last year, there was hope for a breakthrough in the long-stalled diplomatic efforts to bring an end to the conflict in Yemen. This was a moment of optimism – after years and years of war, after so much devastation and suffering. Unfortunately, peace has, thus far, proven elusive, and the Yemeni people continue to pay a heavy, heavy price. Today, I want to focus on three ways the Houthis are undermining peace and security in Yemen and across the region and the world. First, the Houthis continue to unjustly detain humanitarian and diplomatic personnel. Just a few weeks ago, a chorus of Council members demanded the immediate and safe release of these detainees, including in your statements today. A hundred thirty Yemeni staff, from approximately 29 different organizations, who were working to bring lifesaving assistance to the Yemeni people at the time of their detention. But the Houthis have not freed these detainees and, in fact, have only ramped up attacks on humanitarians, as we heard today from both of our briefers. Houthi rebels raided the headquarters of the UN’s Human Rights Office in Sana’a. This must be roundly condemned. There is absolutely no justification for targeting UN workers and detaining persons for carrying out their lawful humanitarian and diplomatic work in this conflict and in any conflict. And in fact, it is important that we here in the Council not give justification for the situation in Yemen because things are happening elsewhere in the world. Colleagues, we have also received credible reports that the Houthis continue to seriously abuse and mistreat the detainees, including U.S. diplomatic staff members that have been held since 2021. Reports also indicate that Houthi officials have warned families of the detained against speaking out publicly, so the actual number of detainees may be significantly higher. Today, I want to recognize the brave voices of Yemeni civil society organizations that are advocating for the immediate and unconditional release of all unjustly detained persons. This Council must lend our support to those efforts. We must speak with one voice to condemn the Houthis’ detention of the UN and other personnel and demand their immediate, unconditional release. The second issue I want to raise is the dire humanitarian crisis in Yemen, which has been exacerbated by the Houthis’ obstruction of critical aid and failed record of governance. As just one example, the Houthis are standing in the way of efforts to combat the spread of cholera in Yemen. The Houthis’ denial of basic medical care has killed hundreds of people since October. This was a preventable tragedy. These are preventable deaths. Collaboration between the Republic of Yemen government and international organizations on vaccination campaigns contrasts sharply with Houthi obstruction and, in some instances, outright prohibition of ongoing vaccination efforts, which has led to a spike in polio and other preventable diseases in Houthi-controlled areas. Our message to the Houthis is simple: Stop obstructing aid and stop hindering humanitarian efforts. Lives hang in the balance. Colleagues, the Houthis are deliberately trying to distract from their failed record by focusing on other events in the region. We should not allow them – allow ourselves to fall into this trap. But the Yemeni people know better. And members of this Council should stop making excuses for the Houthis. The United States again calls on all Council members to unequivocally condemn the Houthis’ continued, escalatory attacks in the Red Sea, Gulf of Aden, and surrounding waterways. These attacks continue despite this Council’s demand in Resolution 2722 for the Houthis to quote “cease all such attacks.” These escalatory actions are a grave threat to international navigational freedoms, as well as regional peace and security, and they have driven up prices and caused delays in the delivery of critical humanitarian items, such as food and medicine, to Yemenis. And make no mistake: Iran has directly enabled these attacks. The Houthis’ use of an Iranian Samad-3 drone in the July 19 attack on Israel was yet another example of Iranian-supplied weapons enabling deadly terrorist attacks in the region. The Houthis have expanded their ties to other Iranian-backed terrorist organizations in the region in an effort to further sow chaos in Yemen and across the Middle East. We emphasized this last month and let me repeat it now: The only appropriate response is to condemn these attacks and demand that they stop. Immediately and without preconditions. Additionally, it is high time this Council did something about Houthi attacks and activities. To start, we should take steps to deny them the weapons and supplies, particularly the critical materiel they have long received from Iran in contravention of the UN arms embargo established in Resolution 2216. Recently, the Yemeni Permanent Representative requested additional support in enforcing Resolution 2216. We should heed this call. Let’s be clear: Member States that stand in the way of holding the Houthis and Iran to account are complicit in undermining the credibility of this Council’s resolutions. As for our part, the United States will continue to support Israel’s right to self-defense in the face of these unprecedented attacks. Colleagues, just because peace has proven elusive, and just because this moment is marked by Houthi escalation, does not mean we can give in to cynicism, or worse, let this conflict slide down the Council’s agenda. That would be a grave injustice to the Yemeni people and to our mandate to maintain international peace and security. And so, we must continue to call out the escalatory actions of the Houthis. And we must continue to call on all parties to work towards peace. Thank you, Mr. President. ###

Creating an encouragement speech that resonates and motivates requires more than just a message. It demands an understanding of your audience, the right tone, and impactful delivery.
This post will guide you through crafting speeches that not only uplift but also connect on a personal level. You’ll learn how to weave storytelling into your narrative for greater relatability, choose words that empower, and employ techniques to emotionally engage with listeners. Additionally, we dive into the significance of body language in enhancing your speech’s effectiveness.
We also offer strategies for tailoring your message across different contexts and overcoming common hurdles such as nervousness or lack of engagement. Finally, we stress the importance of feedback in refining your approach to ensure every word counts towards uplifting others.
It’s not just about what you say but how you say it. When it comes to giving an encouragement speech, it’s important to know how to do both.
Stories are the heart and soul of any encouragement speech. They transform abstract concepts into relatable experiences. Think back to a time when someone’s personal anecdote lifted your spirits or motivated you to push through a challenge. That’s the power you want to harness. By weaving in stories from your own life or those around you, you create a connection with your audience that facts alone cannot achieve.
To make storytelling effective, focus on moments of overcoming obstacles or achieving something against the odds. Narratives like these illustrate resilience and possibility.
The words we choose can build up or tear down. In crafting your encouragement speech, opt for language that empowers and uplifts. Phrases like “you can,” “you will,” and “believe in yourself” aren’t clichés—they’re battle cries for those needing a boost.
Avoid negativities even when discussing challenges. Instead, frame these challenges as opportunities rather than roadblocks. This approach doesn’t deny difficulties but reframes them as part of the journey toward success.
Rhetorical devices such as repetition emphasize key points while questions prompt self-reflection among listeners. Use these tools sparingly but effectively to punctuate crucial ideas within your message. Such techniques not only grab attention but also ensure they linger long after you’ve concluded speaking. Tamsen Webster , for instance, details strategies speakers can use to maintain engagement throughout their presentation.
Varying tone, pitch, and pace help convey passion which is contagious. Your enthusiasm becomes theirs, motivating action beyond mere contemplation.

Think about the last time a story really grabbed you. It wasn’t just the words, but how they made you feel, right? That’s the magic we’re aiming for in encouragement speeches.
We’ve all been there—sitting through a speech that feels more like a lecture than an inspiring talk. But then comes a story, and suddenly everyone perks up. Why? Because stories are relatable. They let us see ourselves in others’ shoes, making their victories feel possible for us too.
This isn’t just fluff; it’s backed by science. When we hear stories, our brains light up—not only processing language but also feeling emotions and visualizing scenes. This makes messages stick with us longer and encourages action.
To harness this power in your speeches, start with personal anecdotes. Your own journey can be incredibly powerful because it’s authentic—you lived it. Share challenges you’ve faced and how you overcame them to inspire your audience to do the same.
But remember: authenticity is key here. If your story doesn’t ring true or seems exaggerated, it loses its impact and—worse yet—it could damage trust with your audience.
Your personal anecdote might not resonate with everyone on every level—that’s okay. The goal is to find universal themes within your story that anyone can connect with: perseverance against odds; finding joy amidst struggles; embracing change as growth opportunities. These themes speak to shared human experiences and create deeper connections between speaker and listener.
The words you pick in your encouragement speech can make or break the impact. It’s important to choose just the right words so that you can leave your audience energized and inspired.
Selecting positive, empowering language is crucial. Words have power—they can lift people up or weigh them down. To motivate someone, use language that sparks hope and enthusiasm. Instead of saying “Don’t give up,” try “Keep pushing forward.” It’s about framing challenges as opportunities rather than obstacles.
This approach not only helps listeners see the glass half full but also encourages them to take action towards their goals. A study by the University of Pennsylvania showed that positive language significantly influences motivation levels in individuals facing challenges.
To really connect with your audience, sprinkle some rhetorical devices into your speech like metaphors or analogies. They help simplify complex ideas and make messages stick.
Anaphora—the repetition of a word at the beginning of successive clauses—can be particularly powerful when used sparingly for emphasis on key points during your speech. Consider how Martin Luther King, Jr.’s famous “I Have a Dream” speech uses anaphora to unforgettable effect.
Emotion is the secret sauce that makes messages stick. But how do you bottle this elusive ingredient in your encouragement speeches? Let’s explore some tried and true techniques.
To hit the emotional chord, understanding your audience is key. Are they seeking motivation, comfort, or a rally to action? This insight shapes everything from your tone to your stories. Start by setting a clear goal for what emotion you want to evoke—be it hope, courage, or determination.
Tone matters more than you think. It’s not just what you say; it’s how you say it. A warm and sincere tone can turn even simple words into powerful motivational tools.
The structure of your message also plays a crucial role in its impact. Begin with an attention-grabbing opening that speaks directly to the heart of the audience’s concerns or aspirations before leading them on a journey towards empowerment and resolution.
Stories are empathy machines—they let us walk in another’s shoes without taking off our own. Integrating personal anecdotes makes your speech relatable and memorable because we’re hardwired to remember stories better than facts alone. As we at The Speaker Lab know, a well-chosen story acts as an emotional anchor that listeners can hold onto long after they’ve forgotten other parts of your speech.
Selecting empowering language injects energy into your encouragement speech like nothing else. Words have power so choose those that inspire resilience and confidence. Avoid negative phrasing that might deflate spirits. Instead, opt for positive affirmations that uplift and motivate.
When it comes to delivering an encouragement speech, the words you choose are crucial. But there’s another player in the game that often flies under the radar: body language . This silent partner can make or break your connection with the audience.
Your posture, gestures, and facial expressions do a lot more than just add flair to your delivery. They’re key components of how audiences interpret your message. Standing tall conveys confidence, while maintaining eye contact builds trust. On the other hand, crossed arms might suggest you’re closed off or defensive—even if that’s not what you feel.
A smile can be a powerful tool as well . It not only makes you appear more approachable but also has been shown to positively affect listener perception, making them more receptive to your message.
Mirroring—the subtle art of matching someone else’s body language—can create a sense of empathy and understanding between speaker and listener. When done correctly during an encouragement speech, mirror neurons fire up, letting your audience know “I’m with you.”
This doesn’t mean mimicking every move someone makes—that would be weird. Instead, focus on capturing the general vibe of their energy level and enthusiasm through similar gestures and vocal tones.
Different cultures have different norms when it comes to non-verbal communication. What’s considered respectful eye contact in one culture may be seen as challenging or rude in another. Educating yourself about these differences is essential for ensuring your message is received as intended across diverse groups. Becoming aware of cultural variations not only helps avoid misunderstandings but also strengthens global connections—one gesture at a time.
When you’re tasked with giving an encouragement speech, the setting can range from a high-stakes corporate boardroom to a lively sports team locker room. The secret sauce? Knowing how to adapt your message to fit these diverse environments seamlessly.
First off, understanding your audience is crucial. A pep talk for a sales team chasing their quarterly targets will differ vastly from motivating volunteers at a charity event. It’s about hitting the right notes that resonate with your listeners’ current experiences and aspirations.
Setting the tone comes next. For instance, in a corporate environment, weaving in success stories relevant to business growth can inspire action. Contrast this with addressing athletes where tales of resilience and teamwork often strike deeper chords.
The structure of your message also needs careful consideration. An effective approach might involve starting with acknowledging challenges faced by the audience, followed by inspirational anecdotes or data supporting why they can overcome these hurdles, and concluding with a clear call-to-action.
Incorporating personal stories or anecdotes not only makes your speech relatable but also memorable. This technique proves especially powerful when adapted correctly for different contexts—whether it’s sharing success stories within similar industries during corporate talks or highlighting individual achievements in sports team pep talks.
Nervousness, authenticity, and keeping the audience engaged are big hurdles in delivering an encouragement speech. But they’re not insurmountable! Here’s how you can leap over these obstacles with grace.
Facing a sea of faces can make your palms sweat and heart race. Remember, it’s okay to be nervous; it means you care about delivering value to your audience. One way to ease those jitters is by practicing your speech multiple times beforehand. You might also try deep breathing exercises or visualization techniques to calm down right before taking the stage.
Another trick is to focus on why you’re there—to help and inspire others. This mindset shift can reduce pressure because you’re not focusing solely on yourself anymore.
Your audience can spot a fake from miles away, so don’t even think about being someone you’re not up there. Sharing personal stories or anecdotes that connect with the core message of your speech makes you more relatable and trustworthy.
If sharing doesn’t come naturally, start small by incorporating bits of personal experiences relevant to your topic until it feels more comfortable for you.
To keep everyone hanging onto every word, use dynamic language and involve them through questions or callouts if possible. This approach turns passive listeners into active participants.
Varying your tone and pace throughout also helps maintain interest. It’s like adding different spices as you cook; too much of one thing gets boring quickly.

In some cases it’s possible to get feedback on one’s encouragement speech. Should the opportunity present itself to you, take it. Not matter their expertise, speakers can always use audience reactions and critiques to refine their speeches. But where do you start? Let’s dive into the specifics.
First off, embracing constructive criticism is key. It might sting at first, but think of it as an investment in your future performances. Ask fellow speakers or mentors who have been in the trenches what they think. Their insights can be goldmines for improvement.
Moreover, consider anonymous surveys from your audience. Tools like SurveyMonkey let you gather honest opinions without putting anyone on the spot.
Now that you’ve gathered all this valuable feedback, what next? Start by identifying common themes—these are areas needing immediate attention. If multiple people point out that your opening lacks punch or your message gets lost mid-way, there’s a pattern emerging that needs fixing.
Create a plan of action for each piece of consistent feedback received. If it’s about improving engagement, research techniques used by successful speakers to keep audiences hooked from start to finish.
Remember: improvement doesn’t happen overnight. Practice these adjustments during smaller gatherings before taking them onto bigger stages again.
To really measure how far you’ve come, set specific goals directly related to some of the critiques you originally received. After subsequent speaking engagements, reassess using the same criteria. This continuous loop ensures not just temporary fixes but long term growth in your speaking skills.
How do you motivate someone in a speech.
Connect deeply, share stories that resonate, and show them the path from where they are to where they could be.
The “I Have A Dream” by Martin Luther King, Jr. stands out for its powerful vision and timeless call to action.
A talk that uplifts spirits, sparks hope, and encourages folks to chase their dreams with relentless optimism.
Talk about overcoming obstacles and taking concrete steps towards achieving one’s goals. Make it personal and inspiring.
Giving an encouragement speech is about connecting, inspiring, and moving your audience to action. To engage your audience, try telling stories that make your message stick. As for the words you use, choose positive phrasing and aim to uplift with every sentence. Non-verbal cues are your silent cheerleaders; use them wisely to add depth beyond words.
Tailor your message to match your audience. After all, context matters as much as content. Tweak your speech to touch hearts in any setting.
Nervous? Everyone is at first. Authenticity beats anxiety every time, so be real, be you. Feedback will fuel your growth, so listen, learn, then lead stronger than before. Improvement never stops in crafting a compelling encouragement speech that truly transforms lives.

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — Homelessness continues to be an issue many are trying to solve in Grand Rapids. A new report, though, shows a solution. One person says it's saving lives, including his own.
"I can't thank them enough," Community Rebuilders consumer Patrick Burnett said.
For three years, Burnett and his partner were homeless. He explained that he had been going from couch to couch for some time. Then, he was on the streets for about a year.
"I was always the one that carried everything, like the blankets and my stuff and sometimes her stuff," Burnett said.
One night around Monroe Center, he got a message that initially gave him skepticism but later turned to hope.
"We were sleeping one day, and we were... he heard, 'Hey, do you want a house or an apartment?'" Burnett added.
That voice was a worker with Community Rebuilders.
"We are primarily housing focused," Community Rebuilders Executive Director Vera Beech said.
She tells FOX 17 they have a program that helps get people off the streets quickly.
"Then we use that housing as a foundation and the supportive services that they may need or want during their transition into housing to really help them maintain that housing long term," Beech added.
Their organization's new report, "The streets of Kent County were never meant to be homes," shows success. The program "Geographically Targeted Housing Outreach" gets people into stabilized housing anywhere from two weeks to a month.
Their report gave a snapshot of the work that they do. Anywhere from "Bridge Housing" to "Rapid Housing," Community Rebuilders helped 62 people get into stabilized housing in a year.
"Once we're able to house the folks in that area, it stays pretty clear. So the idea is that you target the specific areas, and then you move on to another area," Beech.
Their first program focused on the Monroe Center area. Beech says they're expanding to Veterans Park.
"One contact with a person on the street by a housing-focused outreach worker, one contact is enough to get that person to engage with us and develop a housing plan," Beech said.
Thanks to Community Rebuilders, Burnett is now entering his second year in his new home.
"I've been working. I'm trying to get another job on top of what I'm doing now," Burnett said.
Community Rebuilders add you don't have to be chronically homeless to use their help.

For those whom you want to mention but don't have enough time to make individual acknowledgments consider grouping them according to function. Example: "To Alex, Mary, Judy and Sam, thank you for making me remember to laugh. You helped me keep my sanity and perspective when the going was tough." 3.
Practice makes perfect. Practicing your thank you speech helps build confidence and improves delivery. Use a mirror, record yourself, or rehearse in the actual setting to get comfortable. Be genuine and specific when expressing gratitude. Mentioning specific examples of how someone helped you makes your speech more impactful and meaningful.
A thank you speech is a short talk where you express your gratitude towards people or organizations for their support, help, or contribution to a particular event, achievement, or occasion. It's a way to acknowledge and appreciate the efforts and kindness of others, often highlighting specific examples of how they've assisted or influenced you.
Example: "Since applying your advice, I have noticed improved collaboration within my team and our productivity has greatly increased.". Closing statement: End your thank you email with a simple closing statement that reiterates your appreciation. Example: "Once again, thank you so much for your invaluable support.".
1. Start with an expression of gratitude. Right off the bat, you can start by saying thank you for the award or honor you're receiving. An acknowledgment of why you're giving the speech is the most natural way to start. Your expression of gratitude will set the tone for the rest of your speech.
When providing thanks for a task well done (whether it's pledging money for a sponsorship deal or serving dinner) your speech needs to be specific and relevant because all of us are more interested in ourselves than others. "JUST SAY A FEW WORDS". Your thank you speech should be more than 2 minutes but not more than 4 minutes.
Step 3: Grab People's Attention with Gratitude. Start with a strong opening line. In a more formal speech, a quote about gratitude can be an excellent way to set the tone. In a more casual speech, you can avoid a quote. However, you should still stick with the theme of gratitude.
8. Finish composing the body of your speech. Once you have written about the people at the top of your 'thank you' list, write a few paragraphs devoted to people who have served particular roles or functions in your life. If this doesn't work, you could also try organizing the list by keywords such as job categories.
Conclusion: Reiterating Thanks: "In closing, I reiterate my deepest and most sincere gratitude to each of you.". Future Outlook: "With your ongoing support, I am confident in facing future challenges and embracing new opportunities.". Final Greeting: "Thank you once again for your unwavering support.
Listing key points to include. Next, make a list of the key points you want to include in your speech. Think about the purpose of your speech and what you want to say. Make a list of important people you want to thank, particular achievements or milestones to celebrate, and any other relevant information that you want to share.
24. With you in my life, I don't lack the support I need to chase my dreams every day of my life. You are always there for me. Thank you for your support and encouragement. 25. You are the greatest leader that I know. I don't have a leader like you in my life who supports me as much as you do. Thank you so much.

9. Rehearse your speech: Practice your speech multiple times before the actual event.
