Buying Guide for Best Work Boots for Golf Course

When it comes to finding the best work boots for golf course maintenance, there are a few key features you’ll want to look for.

When you’re working long hours out on the golf course, comfort is key. Look for a boot with a padded collar and tongue to help prevent blisters and sore spots.

Remember, you’ll be wearing these boots for long hours at a time, so they need to be comfortable enough that you can wear them all day without having any issues.

The golf course requires a lot of walking, so you should wear comfortable and supportive shoes as you’ll be spending long hours on your feet so you shouldn’t experience foot pain at the end of the day.

Make sure the boots you buy should have good traction. This is especially important if you’ll be working in wet or icy conditions. Look for a boot with deep treads that will provide excellent grip and prevent falling.

As in golf courses, you’ll be walking on wet grass and uneven terrain so great traction prevents slipping.

Support and traction are essential for safety on the job, so make sure to choose a boot with a slip-resistant sole.

Waterproofing:

After all, you’ll be spending a lot of time strolling on wet grass – and possibly even in puddles of water. You’ll also want a boot with a waterproof or water-resistant upper to keep your feet dry through all types of weather conditions

A good pair of work boots will also have a moisture-wicking lining to keep your feet dry and comfortable all day long.

Ankle support:

Maintenance workers at golf courses spend time standing and working on uneven terrain, it’s important to have a boot with good support to avoid any injuries.

Since you’ll likely be doing a lot of bending and stooping while performing tasks like mowing and raking, it’s important to find a boot with good ankle support to prevent fatigue. If you have any special foot issues such as plantar fasciitis, be sure to choose a boot that accommodates those problems.

Lastly, you’ll want a boot that is durable and made from high-quality materials that are built to last. After all, when you’re working outdoors, your boots are going to take a beating. They’ll be exposed to mud, water, and all sorts of debris, so you’ll want a boot that can withstand the rigors of the job, as you’ll be working in all weather conditions.

You are not required to wear golf course maintenance shoes, but they will help protect your feet from injury and make you comfortable while working.

Golf course maintenance boots are designed to provide traction and stability while you work. They also help protect your feet from sharp objects and chemicals. They provide good traction on slippery surfaces and can help keep your feet dry in wet conditions.

You should clean your golf course maintenance shoes after every use and store them in a cool, dry place. You may also want to apply a waterproofing treatment to help protect them from the elements.

Final Verdict

Maintaining the golf course is very demanding and requires a lot of time on your feet. It is important to have a pair of work boots that provide comfort and support so you can perform your job effectively.

After testing and reviewing many different types of work boots, we have found that the Merrell Men’s Moab 2 Vent Mid Hiking Boot is the best overall choice for golf workers.

I just got a job at a golf course and will be standing and walking around a lot. I'm looking for something that has good comfort while staying under or around the $100 price point. I'll use these for work and probably range sessions.

I've seen Nike has the Victory G Lite for a discount on the website right now - anyone have experiecne with these?

Any other recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

golf course work shoes

Unless you have very strict budget requirements, I would strongly advise against buying cheap shoes for a job where you're going to be on your feet all day.

That being said... If you are set on a pair of golf shoes then spikeless is the obvious choice for comfort purposes. However, the downside to spikeless shoes is that you'll have to replace them more frequently as the treads wear down (especially if you're doing a lot of walking/standing on hard surfaces like cart paths or inside floors) and can't be replaced like they can with spiked golf shoes.

What type of job? Pro shop attendant, greens crew, cart attendant, caddy, or something else?

That might help us provide better recommendations. Probably even a few people in here who have or have had the same job and can offer suggestions.

I would get a quality sneaker (Sketchers work wear) over wearing golf shoes.  I was looking at shoes this weekend, and didn’t find any I would want to wear for 40-50 hours a week.

I'd recommend a waterproof trail shoe.  I have a pair from Columbia that I wear as my golf shoes, but they are also great for hiking.  You'll want to try on some different styles, as all don't fit the same, but you can definitely get them for well under $100.  Mine are going on a couple years now, and still doing great.

They were inexpensive and light weight.

If you are washing and staging carts, picking and setting up Range balls and general outside staff duties then either a good pair of sneakers or a waterproof trail shoe. I spent a couple years doing just that and never once wanted to wear golf shoes. If you were working inside the shop that would be different.

When I was in the shop I used to wear a pair of FootJoy teaching shoes. They were nice cause they were just like the classics just without spikes. They were waterproof as well.

I would second (or third?) the waterproof trail shoes instead of golf shoes. Check out something like Brooks and their goretex trail line. I know these are above your budget at $160, but this is just the current generation on Brooks’ site, you can easily find prior generations and models all over for much cheaper, just search brooks goretex. Brooks is very well known in the serious running community, they make high quality sneakers that can take a beating and hold up well. I love mine for trail running.

I think some of the responses could be a bit off here. I think it also depends on what type of place it is. If it’s a more upscale CC type place I’d definitely look toward a casual sneaker type shoe.

Peter Millar, Travis Mathew, and ECCO come to mind first. If you’re set on a golf shoe I’d go for a mid range nike or UA spikeless option that I could wear out and buy another pair without breaking the bank. I’d def check out UA.

shoot4par

Truelinkswear shoes are pretty comfy and solid. If you need a pair of waterproof shoes ecco spikeless are great.

Are you working in the shop? We used to wear the spikeless FJ icons

After I retired I worked a couple years in a golf course pro shop.  I always wore a good pair of New Balance "walking" style shoes since I was on my feet a lot.  We did have one of those rubber mats by the register which made life easier on the feet. I was supplied a couple course logo shirts which we had to wear. I purchased a couple more too to add to the rotation. Also we had to wear long pants - no shorts.  The same deal for the starter.  Cart boys had no restrictions other than reasonable (no goofy tee-shirts) clothing.

New Balance 990's or a waterproof hiking/trail shoe.  I have heard good things about Merrell shoes.  I'm partial to New Balance for comfort but I have very wide feet.

Get some Ultraboost running shoes. The older knit ones are crazy comfy, and very breathable. I researched the most comfy shoes several years ago because I have knee problems and wanted something soft and cushy. Once I tried Ulktraboost, I was hooked. I wear them 247 unless I have a formal business meeting or playing golf. I would get a regular shoe, not a golf shoe. Just keep a spare golf shoe in your car.

I second this. My days working at course, we worked shop, range, carts. I always wore spikeless version. Mine were always footjoys at the time. But so many options now. I would prolly go with the true linkswear. I wear my current pair for everyday use.

/content/dam/images/golfdigest/fullset/2022/1/x-br/20220201-SpikelessShoesPromo.jpg

As golf apparel modernizes—as seen in the rise of hoodies, joggers, and athleisure on the course—so does golf footwear. Gone are the days of uncomfortable and bulky spiked shoes that you think about changing out of from the moment you step on the course. Traction is a key component for any golf shoe, but that doesn’t have to impact the comfort and style. Over the past few years tons of spikeless shoes with quality traction have hit the shelves, giving golfers options that function both on and off the course. A good pair of spikeless golf shoes will provide the grip you need to ground you in your swing and transition easily to post-round plans, so you don’t have to pack two pairs of shoes every time you play golf. Whether your post-round plans involve hitting the weight room or the bar, these men’s and women’s spikeless golf shoe options won’t have to hide away in your locker. Key Features

  • Long lifespan
  • Available in numerous variants
  • Excellent outsole design
  • Weather resistant
  • High stability
  • Versatile design

Key Drawback

  • The width could be more in some size variants

The Adidas Tour360 is an excellent premium pick for serious golfers who want good quality spikeless golf shoes.

Firstly, they are available in 5 different color options. You have some choice when it comes to aesthetics. The leather and synthetic construction do not disappoint either. These men’s shoes offer Puremotion outsole. The outsole provides you with excellent flexibility along with proper grip.

Efficient design means walking comfortably on any terrain while wearing these shoes. In addition to that, you get excellent stability as well. The perfect confluence of heavy-duty construction, stability, grip, and flexibility makes these golf shoes a worthy choice.

LEATHER AND SYNTHETIC MATERIAL

The advantage of these shoes is that they contain leather and synthetic material. Both of these materials are highly durable.

The advantage of the synthetic upper is that it has a microfiber construction. The Microfiber construction makes these shoes lightweight. Additionally, microfiber material does not suffer from extensive wear and tear either. All the materials incorporated into the shoes are such that they increase the life span significantly.

EFFICIENT OUTSOLE DESIGN

One of the highlights of these golf shoes is their efficient outsole design. The outsole is responsible for providing grip and flexibility. So, the stability bar incorporated into the shoes’ design allows you to move safely without losing grip. The traction and flexibility which these shoes provide are second to none.

AVAILABLE IN NUMEROUS VARIANTS

If yes, you get to choose between 5 different color variants. Each of those colors is available in different size options. Buying the exact size variant and the color you want is certainly possible.

What more could you ask for?

adidas Men's TOUR360 XT Spikeless Golf Shoe, FTWR White/core Black/Silver Metallic, 7 W US

  • Available in all neutral colors
  • Water-resistant
  • Easy to clean synthetic upper
  • Incredibly comfortable
  • Provides optimal support

Key Disadvantage

  • Not much padding around the ankle

Footjoy has been at the top of the golf shoe world, and their Fuel spikeless golf shoes are no different. Footjoy has included an all-new Stability Bridge, which provides even more support on your feet and control throughout your golf swing. These shoes have a great fit and are very comfortable.

The Footjoy Fuel golf shoes come in five different color variations and many sizes. Footjoy also allows you to choose between a medium and wide width, so there is something for all feet sizes.

Water Resistant

The Footjoy Fuel golf shoes are completely waterproof, meaning you can wear them in all weather conditions. The shoes are also made from a synthetic material that is easy to clean. After wearing the shoes during a wet day, I can confirm that no water could get in, and the shoes easily cleaned off for the next round of golf.

Stability Bridge

Footjoy has added a Power Stabilizer outsole with an all-new Stability Bridge that sits directly under the bridge of the foot. This aims to provide optimal support to your feet and extra control during your round of golf. After trying on these shoes, I can confirm that there is plenty of foot support and control.

Stratolite Foam

Footjoy has engineered these Fuel shoes with Stratolite foam to deliver lightweight shoes that are also incredibly comfortable. The material around the ankle is made from a light synthetic textile. The only downside, in my opinion, is that there should be more padding and support around the ankles.

FootJoy Men's FJ Fuel Golf Shoe, White/Black/Orange, 10.5

  • Contemporary, sneaker-style golf shoe
  • 100% Waterproof
  • 360-degree breathability
  • It provides excellent traction and control
  • Removable Ortholite insole
  • Quite expensive for a golf shoe

When Ecco released the Biom C4 golf shoe, they wanted to mix excellent performance on the golf course with a contemporary sneaker-style golf shoe. The Biom C4 shoes don’t even appear to be golf shoes, but the technology packed into them is excellent.

These shoes include Ecco MTN GRP, three different sections offering optimal traction, control, and support throughout your golf swing. These shoes feature 360-degree breathability and are incredibly comfortable, so I highly recommend checking them out.

Gore-Tex Surround Construction

The Biom C4 golf shoes feature Ecco’s Gore-Tex surround material and their Exhaust Grid technology. The holes on the sides of the shoe scoop up fresh air from the outside and push it inside the shoe towards the sole of your foot to keep it cool. This makes the Biom C4 one of the most breathable golf shoes I have ever tested.

Ecco MTN GRP

When you think of spikeless golf shoes, you sometimes feel the grip and traction may need to be better than a spiked golf shoe. With Ecco, they have included their MTN GRP outsole, three different sections allowing for more stability and control. The grip on these shoes is surprisingly effective, especially in wet conditions.

Removable Ortholite Insole

Another great thing about the Ecco Biom C4 shoes is that the insole is removable. This will work great for golfers with wider feet, as there is still the same amount of comfort and cushioning with the first insole removed. This helps to make the shoe more suitable for a broader range of golfers.

ECCO Men's Biom C4 Gore-TEX Waterproof Golf Shoe, White/Black, 10-10.5

  • Incredibly lightweight
  • Fitfoam cushioning
  • Great traction
  • Regular fit

Key Disadvantages

  • The colors are a little tacky
  • Need more width options

The Adidas Codechaos golf shoe is an excellent pick for golfers looking for a budget golf shoe that also performs on the course. Adidas has always done a great job of offering lightweight shoe options. They included their Fitfoam cushioning to ensure your feet stay comfortable throughout your round.

Adidas also included their Torsion X stability bar on the bottom of the shoe to offer the most support and control. The only downside to these shoes is that they are provided in regular size only. If you have wider feet, you must do better with these shoes.

Fitfoam Cushioning

All Adidas golf shoes include Fitfoam cushioning to provide the most comfort. These golf shoes are very light, which helps keep the strain off your feet during a round of golf. There is also an Insite sock liner and waterproof upper to help keep water out of the shoe.

Torsion X Stability Bar

The Torsion X Stability Bar is located right under the shoe’s midsole, offering excellent foot support. It helps cushion the bridge of your feet and offers excellent control on every swing. Adidas also included a Twist Grip hybrid outsole, a unique grip pattern on the bottom of the shoe. All of this provides the most control and traction.

  • Trendy looking
  • Incredible grip
  • Unique lacing system for added comfort
  • Waterproof protection
  • Limited color options

Under Armour’s newest spikeless golf shoe is the HOVR Tour SL, which is quickly becoming one of the best spikeless golf shoes available. With its unique spikeless outsole, the grip on these shoes is incredible. You almost feel like you are wearing spikes.

These shoes also feature a locked-in heel and a knit upper, providing excellent support and flexibility. The HOVR Tour SL shoes are completely water-resistant, and Under Armour offers a full-year warranty on the water. These shoes look trendy, and I highly recommend trying them out.

TPU Outsole

Under Armour uses a mixture of TPU on the center of the outsole and rubber nubs on the toe and heel to create an incredibly grippy outsole for a spikeless golf shoe. In terms of spikeless golf shoes, these provided the most grip. If you didn’t look, you would think you were wearing spikes on the bottom of the shoe.

Unique Lacing

The HOVR Tour SL golf shoes feature a unique lacing system that helps bring the weight of the overall shoe down. The laces are embedded, and you don’t have to worry about tying them to tighten. Locked-in heel support locks your foot into place and provides excellent support.

Intelliknit Technology

Under Armour uses its Intelliknit technology in the HOVR Tour SL shoes, which helps with the knit upper. The shoe offers excellent flexibility throughout the shoe, all while keeping your feet at a reasonable temperature. A waterproof membrane inside the shoe lets water wick off the material. You can also wipe off any stains easily.

Lightweight and Breathable

Walking in the Roshe G spikeless golf shoes makes you feel like you are walking in a running shoe more than a golf shoe. Instead of having big rubber spikes on the outsole, there are hundreds of small mini spikes, and half the time; you can’t even tell they are there. The shoes are very lightweight and keep your feet dry.

Flexible Support

The Roshe G golf shoes have rounded heel support which helps keep your feet in place throughout your round. You will not find yourself slipping, which is precisely what you want from a spikeless golf shoe. The foam cushioning also provides soft support, which helps keep your feet from feeling strained.

The G/Fore MG4X2 golf shoes are unique-looking sneakers hoping to mix performance on the golf course with a stylish spin. At first glance, you might not even realize these are golf shoes. They are engineered with a water and stain-resistant material that includes a waterproof liner.

There is a 360-degree molded heel cup that helps prevent any heel-slipping during your swing. These golf shoes are very comfortable and offer excellent traction. They are also completely waterproof, and the insoles are removable and washable.

One-Piece Waterproof Upper

The MG4X2 golf shoes are engineered with a one-piece dry knit upper that helps keep the shoes 100% waterproof and stain-resistant. There is also an internal waterproof liner to help keep moisture away from the inside of the shoe.

Molded Heel Cup

G/Fore has created a 360-degree molded heel cup on the shoe’s interior. This locks your feet in place and ensures no slipping during your swing. This provides incredible traction and support and is also very comfortable. The insole is also removable and can be washed, which is great for the shoes’ longevity.

Sawtooth Traction

The outsole of these golf shoes is wholly made from rubber and has G/Fore’s sawtooth traction design. This design is hand-made to ensure the most flexibility out of the shoes and the best grip. For a spikeless golf shoe, there was a ton of grip on the bottom of the shoes.

  • Highly durable

KEY DISADVANTAGE

  • Packaging needs improvement

The best feature of these Men’s spikeless  golf shoes  is the water-resistant and lightweight design. The lightweight design allows you to move on the golf course safely. Combine that with the synthetic material, and you can easily understand why these are comfortable and versatile golf shoes you can opt for.

Sketchers golf shoes are easy on your wallet and have features you must pay more for from other brands.

The advantage of synthetic material is that it is lightweight but durable. At the same time, synthetic material does not undergo significant wear and tear. The long lifespan helps you avoid searching for a replacement.

EXCELLENT TRACTION

As stated above, the sole consists of synthetic material. However, that’s not all!

The molded rubber grip of the sole provides excellent traction on any terrain. This feature can come in handy when dealing with only one terrain on the golf course.

golf course work shoes

The ultimate compliment you can bestow on a pair of golf shoes is that you forgot you were wearing them. After walking 4 or 5 miles up, down and over grass, sand and dirt, you never slipped, you felt secure when you made your swing, and, most importantly, your feet stayed dry and comfortable.

None of those things will be possible, however, if your golf shoes are not well made or don’t fit your feet properly. Poorly made shoes can irritate your feel, encourage blisters to form and increase the chances that you will slip on tee shots. They can transform a gorgeous walk around a venue like Bandon Dunes into a miserable hike that you can’t wait to end.

To find the perfect pair of golf shoes, you need to look past the aesthetics and concentrate on fit and performance. To teach you more about things like traction, waterproof materials and cushioning, Golfweek spoke to three leaders in the golf footwear game: Masun Denison, Adidas Golf’s global footwear director; Justin Tucker, Puma Golf’s design director; and Keith Duffy, FootJoy’s principal of advanced concepts. Below are their answers to common questions, along with a list of some of the best golf footwear on the market today.

Some answers were edited for clarity and length .

What is the most crucial thing to consider when purchasing new golf shoes?

2024 Arnold Palmer Invitational

“I would say how you want to use the product or how do you approach the game. If you’re someone who’s casual, and golf is something you do mostly at par-3 type courses, or scores are not important, you really want to have it be versatile. But if you are someone who is a low-handicap player and saying, ‘I’m going to buy one shoe, and I want to be able to use it in any conditions, including tournaments which are going to be important to me, right away, you’re going into the more performance footwear.” – Masun Denison, Adidas

“I think it’s all about comfort, because you’re out there four to five hours when you’re playing. It’s got to be step-in comfort. I’m obsessed with designing the ultimate walking shoe. I want be able to go play 36 holes and have my feet not hurt afterwards. Traction is very, very important, but I think comfort is the most important.” – Justin Tucker, Puma Golf

“If there’s one thing that takes precedence over anything else and influences performance, it would be fit. I think most people can relate to when we’re growing up as kids, Mom and Dad always bought us shoes that were too big for us so we had time to grow into them, right? They wanted those shoes as long possible. When our shoes were starting to fit a little bit tighter, that was our cue to ask for a new pair of shoes. Our research shows that 70 percent of golfers are wearing the wrong size shoe. Most often, a shoe that’s too big. You don’t want a lot of movement inside your golf shoe.” – Keith Duffy, FootJoy

Anatomically, women’s feet are different than men’s feet. How do you make women’s shoes specifically for women’s feet?

FootJoy Pro SLX Women's shoes

Women’s feet are typically wider in the forefoot and narrower in the heel than men’s feet. (FootJoy)

“We have a robust testing program, which are very proud of, and we test evenly across our men’s and women’s footwear testing pool. We get feedback on every model that we make.” – Masun Denison, Adidas

“We really try to limit the amount of, ‘Pink it and shrink it.’ There’s a bunch of really good, low-handicap golfers in our office that tests a lot of our products and we get a lot of great feedback.” – Justin Tucker, Puma Golf

“We have women-specific lasts (shoe forms) based off of years of scans and and taking measurements of women’s feet. Our women’s line is distinct in that we utilize a separate group of lasts. And then, when we are doing testing, we do mechanical testing and then biomechanical testing. We also do psychophysical testing, which is mechanical. With psychophysical, we’re trying to quantify how the performance or the fit of a certain golf you makes the player feel.” – Keith Duffy, FootJoy

Everyone has bought shoes that felt a little snug or tight, but we say to ourselves, ‘Oh, it will stretch after I wear it a few times.’ For golf shoes, is that ever true?

2024 Genesis Invitational

A detailed view of the shoes worn by Tiger Woods of the United States on the third green during the first round of The Genesis Invitational at Riviera Country Club on February 15, 2024 in Pacific Palisades, California. (Photo by Michael Owens/Getty Images)

“We tested a bunch of products out there, including some competitive products, and there’s definitely something to that. I wore a pair for a full round, straight out of the box, and my feet were absolutely killing me afterwards. And that was the shoe that I really admire. I think it looks beautiful on the shelf, and it’s considered the top of the class. So, it’s hard because a lot of time, they don’t really break in. Natural leather will break in, but a TPU (thermoplastic polyurethane) never really stretches or breaks in.” – Justin Tucker, Puma Golf

“It’s very material dependent, and the market is very diverse in its offerings. Today’s golf shoes are made with a lot of different materials that make up the ‘upper’ portion of the shoe or the part that your foot goes inside of. FootJoy, and other leading brands, use leather, synthetic leather with and without a microfiber backing, textiles and coated textiles.  While it is easy to identify a textile or a coated textile, it can be more difficult for consumers to differentiate between leather and synthetic leather.  All materials have varying levels of stretch, but natural leathers have more of a tendency to relax over time. That said, an open-mesh textile has a greater ability to relax over time when compared to a coated mesh or textile.” – Keith Duffy, FootJoy

“That’s inherently based on the upper materials of a shoe. A true leather that’s beautiful and rich, if we don’t put a stretch-resistant backer material with it, it is naturally going to slowly get a little bit more roomy over time. Natural materials stretch a little bit more than man-made materials, so a microfiber or textile with a film over it that is not a natural material, that’s not stretch over time as much.” – Masun Denison, Adidas

Who is a candidate for golf shoes that have replaceable spikes?

Adidas Tour360 24 shoes

Adidas Tour360 24 shoes (Adidas)

“One of the benefits of having a shoe with replaceable traction elements is that you’ve got the ability to refresh or enhance your traction. If you go on the range at PGA Tour events, they might be using four cleats in the heel that are entirely different than the five cleats in the forefoot.” – Keith Duffy, FootJoy

“It seems like it’s really hard to get low-handicappers out of spiked shoes. Good, solid, recreational players, low-handicappers, those guys are just built on thinking that that’s what they have to wear.” – Justin Tucker, Puma Golf

“If you’re someone that plays a lot, is a lower-handicap golfer and has a decent swing speed, and you play in an area where it’s going to be wet at times, it’s hard for me not to say spikes would be good for you. If you are only going to have one pair of golf shoes and you never want them to let you down in any conditions, spiked shoes are a really good option because our spike footwear today is more comfortable than it was five or 10 years ago.” – Masun Denison, Adidas

All other things being equal, how much traction do you lose going from spiked shoes to spikeless?

Puma Phantomcat golf shoes

The Phantomcat does not have replaceable spikes, but utilizes unique traction elements to help golfers avoid slipping and shifting as they swing. (Puma Golf)

“I think based on the way traction systems are developed, spikeless shoes can provide a tremendous amount of traction on the golf course during the full swing. On and around the green, they can also keep the golf course in good shape. In most cases, the majority golfer in the marketplace is going to get more than adequate traction support during the golf swing from a spikeless shoe.” – Keith Duffy, FootJoy

“We’ve done a lot of research and put a lot of time into trying to do some like really innovative stuff with when it comes to traction. There is a little bit of a difference, but I think we’re making some really good spikeless shoes at the moment and that’s still a bigger part of our our business. ” – Justin Tucker, Puma Golf

“It’s the closest the gaps ever been, but one thing that’s really hard to overcome is with replaceable spikes you can regularly keep that grip level at the same height. A lot of people don’t change their spikes, so if you look at a bottom of some players’ shoes after a year it’s like, ‘Oh my gosh, they’re due for a change.’ Over time, the spikeless shoe, as it wears down, is going to lose a little bit of that high level of friction it had when it was new.” – Masun Denison, Adidas

We understand what it means for a shoe to be waterproof, but there are also water-resistant shoes. What should golfers expect from a water-resistant shoe?

Morning dew at Augusta National

Some water-resistant shoes can allow water, like morning few, make your feet wet. (Rob Schumacher-USA TODAY Network)

“If you’re playing in a mesh shoe and you play early in the morning, your toes will get a little wet, but our testing is stringent. We have one shoe with micro-perforated stripes on the side, and we couldn’t consider the shoe waterproof because of that, so we had to label it water-resistant. No droplet is getting in that hole, and that doesn’t even punch all the way through the shoe. So, for us, when we say stuff’s water-resistant, it’s damn near waterproof.” – Justin Tucker, Puma Golf

“We don’t label our golf shoes as water-resistant, so I don’t think I can accurately answer that question. We have three levels of waterproofing in our line:, two-year, one-year and no waterproof. Footwear like the Flex would fall into our non-waterproof area. It has a mesh upper with no membrane, so water, without any treatment, would get in. Now, we’ll use a topical treatment that will keep water out, but if you use those shoes a lot, that treatment will wear off over time and water will be more likely to get in.” – Keith Duffy, FootJoy

“There’s some brands that say water-resistant, which is a generic term because it just means that at some part of the shoe it resists some part of water coming in. We try to put ourselves in the consumers’ shoes, and there’s nothing more annoying than walking down the first fairway and having your foot get wet on a sunny day because you stepped in grass that is barely above the midsole. We try to have on the lower half of our shoes, even the ones that are breathable, made with solid materials and materials that resist water, so it’s not soaking all the way up the upper and it’s not coming in just above the midsole.” – Masun Denison, Adidas

Nike Air Max 270 G Golf Shoes on the golf course

Nike Air Max 270 G Golf Shoes

Our expert review:

Specifications

Reasons to buy, reasons to avoid.

The Air Max 270 G shoe is a sporty and stylish option that can be worn both on and off the course. It comes in three different colorways with each delivering a clean and crisp aesthetic. The shoe certainly appeals to a younger audience, but there is no mistaking that it is great for those looking for more comfort too. It does fit fairly snug so you may want to order a size up if you want a non-restrictive fit. It is extremely breathable and offers up plenty of ventilation thanks to the mesh covering around the upper, which is water-resistant and easy to clean.

Akin to many of the  best spikeless golf shoes  out there, the Air Max 270 delivers plenty of traction on the turf thanks to the rubber ridges and bumps on the sole of the shoe. We felt pretty stable in damp conditions and that also adds to the versatility of the shoe, which we felt could be worn in almost any situation, from the course to the shops.

The stunning white Cole Haan GrandPro AM Golf Shoes on the golf course

Cole Haan GrandPro AM Golf Shoes

As Cole Haan are one of the lesser-known brands in the market, we've had many playing partners asking us what these shoes are when we've been wearing them out on the course. That's how visually stunning these shoes are, and if you're the type of player who likes to wear golf gear that's a little less well known. These are perhaps some of the best golf sneakers in the game, simply for their versatility and stunning aesthetics. We felt really comfortable wearing these both on and off the golf course and they also kept our feet both warm and dry thanks to their 100 percent waterproof construction.

Equally we think they are one of the best spikeless golf shoes in the game, offering up ample traction and support on wet ground, thanks to the many rubber lugs that line this shoe's sole. We also really loved how comfortable they were to wear with the padded and thick sole being a great addition and support to your feet during a long day on the golf course. The GrandPro AM comes in three color options, and all three look fantastic.

G/FORE G.112 Golf Shoes resting on the golf course

G/FORE G.112 Golf Shoes

The G/FORE G.112 shoes are a versatile addition to this list that we think you'll really enjoy wearing both on and off the golf course. They come with an innovative design that delivers a premium aesthetic thanks to high quality leather upper. That twins nicely with the raised and supportive midsole, to deliver a look and profile that we really enjoyed.

The highlight of this shoe was the comfort it offered, which is up there with many of the best golf shoes in the game. The padded interior wrapped around our feet nicely during our testing sessions, delivering comfort. The insoles come with the raised nubs that we've come to know and love in G/FORE golf shoes, and while they might feel a bit odd at first, they work very well to massage your feet during your round.

The grip on the G.112s was also good too. The traction offered by the spiked rubber sole worked really nicely in both dry and wet conditions. While we'd perhaps steer clear of wearing these on a really wet day on the course, opting instead for one of the best waterproof golf shoes , if you do find yourself caught in a downpour, you'll be reassured in the knowledge that these shoes are 100 percent waterproof too!

Under Armour Charged Phantom SL Golf Shoe Review

Under Armour Charged Phantom SL Golf Shoe

We don't exaggerate when we say that these shoes can be used anywhere - on the course, at home, at the gym, off the course and so on and so forth. Arguably with the Charged phantom SL, Under Armour have created the perfect crossover shoe.

We enjoyed the sleek athletic style, with the upper really offering breathability and comfort all day. The Storm Flat Knit Collar around the ankle provides a locked-in feel while also being extremely comfortable.

We felt very stable even when swinging hard in the Charged Phantom SL however we should say that whilst the shoe performed really well in dry to damp conditions, we would recommend a spiked model if you play more golf in wetter conditions. Finally style wise we enjoyed the blue color we tested above, but there are three other colors to choose from as well, each of which really look great.

PUMA GS-Fast Golf Shoes

Puma GS-Fast Golf Shoes

Puma have always been a front runner when pushing the boundaries to design trendy yet functional golf shoes and the GS-Fast, an update on their much talked about RS-G Golf Shoes , certainly continues that trend. Admittedly these shoes will not be everyone's cup of tea but they are a statement shoe that many will like.

Our testing procedures showed us that Puma put an awful lot of technology into these shoes, making them one of the most comfortable spikeless golf shoes on the market. The chunky sole provides exceptional cushioning, while the mesh sock-liner prevents the risk of blisters arising on your feet.

The GS-Fast comes with a wide rubber outsole that is littered with a ton of small rubber studs. That means these shoes are better used as a summer golf shoe but still performed very well in slightly soft autumnal conditions with their grippy outsole providing solid traction on the turf. They are also completely waterproof and are very easy to wipe down after your round.

True Linkswear FS-01 Golf Shoe Review

True Linkswear FS-01 Golf Shoe

The True Linkswear FS-01 golf shoe can be worn on and off the course, with the classic look oozing class and style. Ranked as one of the best casual golf shoes on the market, we think it won't look out of place in any environment and can be worn with any golf outfit and casual outfit alike.

So, how did it perform out on the course? Well, considering it is a low-profile silhouette it does have good support around the heel and extra padding around the Achilles. However, because of this profile, you do lose a little support here.

One thing that did impress us though is the overall feel of the product, which is soft to the touch and has the same pebbled finish that you'd expect of a genuine leather product. What's more, the upper is very easy to maintain and is really durable, even claiming to be scratchproof (so far, so good in our testing) allowing you to keep them in sparkling condition for much longer.

Adidas Ultraboost Golf Shoe Review

Adidas Ultraboost Golf Shoe

With a silhouette so similar to that of the Ultraboost running shoe, the golf version here can blend into pretty much any environment. We’ve worn them to work, to the gym and then straight to the golf course. Alongside the  Cole Haan ZeroGrand Overtake ,  True Linkswear FS-01  and  Air Jordan 1 Low G , they are the most versatile golf shoes we’ve ever worn.

The shoe uses a Primeknit mesh upper - which is breathable and water resistant - as well as the sock-like material around the tongue of the shoe. There is plenty of padding around the ankle and there have also been some reinforcements around the toe area. This, along with the softness and cushioning underfoot, makes the comfort of these shoes off the charts.

Although not fully waterproof, it is water resistant, the Ultraboost has incredible breathability so your feet won't feel overly hot wherever you are in these shoes.

The Nike Air Jordan 1 Low golf shoe pictured on a tee box

Nike Golf Air Jordan 1 Low G Golf Shoes

The Air Jordan Low G Golf Shoes are built from genuine leather to deliver extreme comfort on the course. Their classic look pays tribute to the original Air Jordans, first released in the early 80s.

But these have been re-designed for golf and feature encapsulated air in the heel cushions that make every step a joy. While these shoes are designed for use in warmer conditions, they do also come with a 1 year waterproof warranty, which is a great addition as you can never predict when the heavens will open on the course. Now admittedly the grip and stability of these shoes can be beaten by pretty much any spiked model for example, but the plus point of these shoes is the versatility. They look like regular, casual sneakers and have the comfort to match.

How we test golf shoes

Our golf shoe testing methodology revolves around putting models to the test over a number of rounds and in different conditions. This is so we can gain a better idea of overall performance in terms of factors like grip comfort, grip, stability, waterproofing and how they actually look on the golf course. Each of the shoes listed above has been personally used by a member of the Golf Monthly team.

This is the best way of testing a golf shoe as using it in the real world over a number of weeks allows us to see how they perform when variables change like weather, ground conditions, different stances and lies, and so on.

We think this also gives us information on the little details as well like which brands come up small or large, which models start to rub a bit too much after 36 holes, which designs can be used off the golf course and for the drive home?  We are very comprehensive in our tests to the point where we will regularly attend product launches and meet with the manufacturer’s R&D experts to understand the new technology. That isn't to say manufacturers can buy a good review though, as all our reviews are made by golfers, for golfers.

How to choose golf shoes

Once you know the right size to go for, comfort is the next factor to be aware of. If a shoe isn't comfortable, you aren't going to wear it so we recommend trying on different models before you buy.

When you are trying shoes on, listen for a 'whoosh' sound which should indicate air leaving the shoe which usually suggests a good fit. Walk around in the shoes too so you can feel any pinching and whether your feet are moving around inside them. A correctly fitted shoe should so neither of these things. This is important because if your feet slide around inside, or you get rubbing and blisters, you won't wear them again and they could damage your feet and performance.

Spiked or spikeless?

Next up is to decide between spiked and spikeless. There is a mix of styles above but you should know that they have pros and cons.

Spiked golf shoes offer better grip and stability but don't sit as low to the ground as spikeless models. Spikeless golf shoes offer off-course versatility but might not offer as much traction. Have a think about which factor is most important to you here.

As you have seen in this guide, most of the best casual golf shoes are spikeless, so check out our best spiked golf shoes guide for a comprehensive look at some spiked options.

Waterproofing

Waterproofing is always important in a good golf shoe. Us golfers are outside all day sometimes and that means the occasional bit of rain is inevitable, and your shoes need to be able to deal with this. Therefore always check if a model is waterproof.  Some shoes are 'water-resistant' where they will survive in a short shower but will struggle to keep the water out in significant rain.

Finally be aware of your budget because you can find a casual golf shoe at any price point.

Can golf shoes be worn casually?

Absolutely yes. As you've seen in this guide, the styling of golf shoes has become significantly more casual in the last few years. Many we've listed here are styled on street shoes and the low profile outsole that provides plenty of grip on course isn't at all intrusive when walking on harder surfaces.

Why do I need to wear golf shoes?

Golf shoes are designed to provide ample grip whilst out on the golf course, as well as comfort and style. You don't want shoes which will be slipping all over the place, neither do you want shoes that will give you blisters

Henry Foster Image

Golfers sometimes underestimate the importance of a comfortable pair of golf shoes. When your feet are in your shoes for five or more hours at a time, the shoes need to be comfortable.

In addition to the length of time that your feet are in the shoes, you will also cover quite a bit of ground with your golf shoes on. If you are walking the course, you may walk up to six miles.

As a PGA Professional, I can tell you that there is a very large difference between a comfortable golf shoe and an uncomfortable one.

To keep your game in great shape, you must back it up with the proper equipment for your feet. Here are some of the most comfortable golf shoes on the market .

  • Comfortable yet high performing shoes for walking
  • It comes in a few different colors
  • Mesh material keeps your feet cool
  • Not a waterproof golf shoe

At the top of our list of the most comfortable golf shoes are the FootJoy Men’s FJ Flex Golf Shoes .

FootJoy is well known for making some of the most high performing shoes on the market, yet not all of them are incredibly comfortable. The Flex ranks among the best when it comes to comfort.

The flex is a shoe made from a performance mesh material that is lightweight and breathable . Playing with the mesh material type golf shoe will make sure that your foot stays cool the entire time you are on the golf course.

In addition to comfort, the FJ Flex is known for the support that they provide as well. There is a soft midsole with plenty of cushioning, and it helps to make sure that your foot is stable and comfortable the entire time you are on the course.

When it comes to traction, the FootJoy brand does a great job of making sure you won’t slip or slide while you are making your way around the golf course.

The traction zones are specifically designed to help give rotational support . It’s hard to find a disappointing pair of Foojoy golf shoes; they truly know what a player needs.

Runner Up 1: Skechers GO GOLF Men’s Mojo Waterproof Golf Shoes

golf course work shoes

  • Waterproof design
  • Comfortable golf shoes for walking
  • Spikeless shoe
  • High quality leather design
  • Limited color selection

Skechers makes some of the more comfortable sneakers on the market, yet they also make comfortable golf shoes.

The Skechers Go Golf Shoes are made from 100 percent leather . Inside the shoe, you will find an ultra flight foam material . This foam is lightweight to make it easier to walk the course, yet also keep your feet comfortable.

One of the great benefits of the Skechers Go Golf is that in addition to the comfort of the shoe, you will also find that they are entirely waterproof . This is a good option for those that like to play golf in the morning or in wet conditions.

The Skechers Go Golf is a spikeless shoe that makes it great for going from the golf course to work and vice versa. When it comes to shoes for walking, you will enjoy the performance benefits of the Go Golf.

Runner Up 2: FootJoy Men’s Hyperflex Boa Golf Shoes

golf course work shoes

  • Good for wet conditions and dry conditions
  • Underfoot cushioning
  • High quality
  • Great walking shoes
  • Works well for wide feet
  • A new release is a bit more expensive than other options

It should come as no surprise that Footjoy makes the list of most comfortable golf shoes again. The Hyperflex Boa Golf Shoe is a brand new design, and it is built for lightweight performance .

This is a mesh shoe, but it is also waterproof . You won’t often find that feature with golf shoes available in the mesh material.

When you first take a look at the Hyperflex, you will notice that it looks a bit more modern than some of the other Footjoy choices on the market. This modern look has everything to do with making the shoe more comfortable yet durable .

There is a proprietary foam compound in the underfoot area that helps to make sure your feet get less tired as you play. If you are someone that approaches the 18th hole and feels like your feet need a break, the Hyperflex may be able to help.

The only downside to this new technology that it is a bit expensive. If you play a lot of golf and are serious about the time you spend on the course, the Hyperflex is an option that should be considered.

ECCO Men’s Biom Cool Pro Gore-Tex Golf Shoe

Premium Most Comfortable Golf Shoes

golf course work shoes

  • Gore tex surround
  • More specific to golfers than athletic shoes
  • Works well in wet conditions
  • Highly engineered traction system
  • Priced high for a pair of comfortable shoes

The Ecco golf shoes are some of the most high end shoes on the market. The Ecco Biom series is built for incredible comfort and performance .

The entire concept of this shoe is to get the player closer to the ground and have them feel more connected as they play their shot. The Ecco Biom Cool Pro is also going to help make sure that your foot stays dry regardless of the conditions you are playing in.

The Yak leather upper of the Ecco shoe is one of the things that sets it apart from the crowd. This material is unique, and it will work quite well in all weather conditions. There is also a Gore-Tex Surround on this shoe that is 100% waterproof .

When your feet are wet on the golf course, it is very uncomfortable, and the Ecco Biom cool premium leather and Gore-Tex construction will make sure this doesn’t happen.

The only complaint that anyone has about the Ecco golf shoes is that they are usually priced higher than most other shoes on the market. These shoes will last for a very long time and support you in every step of your golf swing.

Best Value Comfortable Golf Shoes: Adidas Men’s Tech Response Golf Shoes

golf course work shoes

  • Lightweight and breathable
  • Feels very stable
  • Lightweight shoe
  • Long lasting and affordable shoe
  • It looks more like an athletic shoe than a golf shoe for the real traditional golfer

Perhaps more than any other golf shoe brand, the Adidas shoes are known for their comfort.

If you are looking for some of the most comfortable golf shoes in the game but would also like to keep your budget in mind, the Adidas Men’s Tech Response is a great choice.

The Tech Response is one of the best selling golf shoes in the game. It is a lightweight and breathable model, and it is offered at a very fair price. The durable outsole is made with the idea of holding up over time and allowing for plenty of traction.

One of the things you won’t have to worry about when wearing an Adidas golf shoe is the balance and stability that you will have as you are swinging your club or walking the course.

These are some of the best golf shoes to allow you to go after the golf ball with ease.

Tech Response golf shoes come in a few color options, and they also have a lightweight cloudfoam sock liner . The sock liner adds yet another level of comfort to the Adidas shoe.

Adidas Men’s S2g Golf Shoes

Most Comfortable Spikeless Golf Shoes

golf course work shoes

  • Spikeless golf shoe
  • Comfortable textile material
  • Comfortable shoes for those with wide feet
  • Will not keep your feet dry in bad weather

If you want the comfort of an Adidas golf shoe but you are looking for something that has a spikeless bottom, the Adidas Men’s S2g is a perfect choice.

This is a lightweight shoe made from a breathable and comfortable textile type fabric. When you walk the golf course with the Adidas S2g on, it will feel like you are wearing a comfortable sneaker.

Golfers that have a wide foot or pain in their feet find that the S2g is a very good match for their game.

The bottom of the shoe has the V-Traxion lugs that are designed to feel like you are using a spiked golf shoe even though these are spikeless shoes. If you have ever had a comfortable Adidas running shoe, the S2g will be very similar.

As you walk the golf course, you will notice that there is plenty of comfort under the center of your foot. Adidas calls this the Flexible Bounce midsole and it feels like a cushion each time you step.

For a comfortable shoe that is low profile, affordable, and spikeless, the S2g is a perfect choice.

Adidas Women’s Adipure Sport Golf Shoes

Most Comfortable Golf Shoes For Women

golf course work shoes

  • Spikeless shoes for women golfers
  • Lots of stability
  • Great shoes for walking
  • Fair value for the money
  • No real waterproofing technology

Women golfers need comfortable golf shoes just like the men. The great news is that most of the shoes on the market are built with plenty of comfortable technology and performance for women.

The Adidas Women’s Adipure Sport Golf Shoes are spikeless shoes that are flexible and provide a ton of traction.

The Adipure Sport Golf Shoe tends to have a bit more of a rounded toe , and that is helping to increase both comfort and stability in the shoe. Inside the Adipure, you will find a sock liner that adds yet another level of comfort to the shoes.

You won’t have to worry about the traction that the Adidas Women’s golf shoes provide. Even if you have a fast golf swing, you will be able to feel as though you can go after the ball with these shoes on.

Under Armour Men’s HOVR Drive Woven Golf Shoes

Best For Stability

golf course work shoes

  • Comfortable golf shoe with stability
  • Storm technology keeps your feet dry
  • Provides very strong traction
  • An integrated lacing system helps you feel locked in
  • New lower profile design
  • Not available in sizes for wide feet

Although you have seen there are many comfortable golf shoes on the market, golfers with fast swing speeds worry about the stability of many of these models.

If you are worried about swinging at full capacity while still keeping your foot comfortable, the Under Armour Men’s HOVR Drive Woven golf shoe is a perfect choice.

This is a high end golf shoe with a two year waterproof warranty . If you play quite a bit of golf in the poor weather, the technology on this shoe is going to be something that you will appreciate. The UA Storm technology is some of the best waterproof comforts in the market.

One of the things that we like about the Under Armour HOVR drive is that it has a lot of rotational support. This support combined with the Tornado spikes helps to make sure that you stay connected to the ground horizontally and vertically.

If you have a fast swing speed, you want to be able to use it fully while swinging the club; the HOVR Drive allows for that.

Inside the shoe, you will notice lots of cushioning and support to make sure that your foot feels supported and comforted throughout the entire round.

Even with all of the impressive features this shoe has, it is still surprisingly breathable. This is an option that is worth considering for the serious player.

FootJoy Men’s Sneaker

Best Golf Shoes For Walking and Comfort

golf course work shoes

  • Lightweight cushioning
  • Enhanced traction and gripping
  • Full rounded toe
  • Premium full-grain leather
  • Doesn’t look like a professional golf shoe

When you decide to walk 18 holes of golf, you will want the most comfy golf shoes you can find. Most golf courses require about five miles of walking, and that can make it pretty uncomfortable if you don’t have good walking shoes. The FootJoy Men’s Sneaker is a great solution as it is incredibly comfortable and feels like you are walking in regular sneakers.

The FootJoy Men’s Sneaker features an EVA lightweight cushioning, and it will stay in place for the life of the shoe. Don’t expect the shoe to flatten out over time; it is impressive the way it holds ups.

Another great feature of the FootJoy Men’s Sneaker is that it is waterproof and comes with a two year waterproof warranty.

Sqairz Speed Golf Shoes

Best Comfortable Golf Shoes For Traction

golf course work shoes

  • Plenty of stability and extra speed
  • 2 Year waterproof guarantee
  • Impressive ratings and reviews
  • Color selection is limited compared to other brands

The Sqairz Speed Golf Shoes are comfortable yet provide plenty of traction for golfers. These shoes have been continually getting higher rankings through the years and have impressive overall results for 2022. The Sqairz shoes are known for having plenty of cushion but also more impressive stability.

When a golf shoe is more stable, players will have an easier time getting distance. In some studies that Sqairz has done, players are getting up to 8 yards more distance with their shoes in place.

In addition, these are 100% waterproof golf shoes that ensure your feet stay dry as well. If you are worried about torque, swing speed, and maximum performance on the course, don’t be afraid to try this newer brand.

The only thing that stands out as being significantly different about the Sqairz Speed is the toe, and most players find it is even more comfortable than a standard, more pointed golf shoe.

Ecco Men’s Biom G3 Waterproof

Comfiest Golf Shoes For Winter Golf

golf course work shoes

  • Help keep players close to the ground, more grounded
  • 100% waterproof technology
  • Breathable yet warm
  • Higher priced golf shoes

Not only do you need to look for warm cushioning in the winter, but it’s also important to consider comfort. The Ecco Men’s Biom G3 is a waterproof golf shoe that has a ton of impressive technology packed in.

The Biom Natural Motion technology allows players to feel more connected to the ground and ensure better stability. Inside the shoe, there is a removable and washable Ortholite. The inlay sole is very comfortable, and it will stay that way for the length of the shoe.

In addition, golfers are impressed with the extra warmth that you will find in this shoe. Not only is it capable of keeping your foot warm, but the X-Tensa Invisible Technology also ensures that the laces are pulled together tightly to keep the wind out.

Ecco golf shoes require a bit more of an initial investment, but in the end, you will find this to be well worth the price you pay.

Puma Men’s Grip Fusion Sport

Most Comfortable Summer Golf Shoes

golf course work shoes

  • Performance mesh material
  • Plenty of foam built-in
  • Traction pattern to help stay more balanced
  • Fair pricing
  • Not the best choice for fasters wing speeds
  • These are not waterproof golf shoes

During the summer months, the most comfortable golf shoes are those that have flexibility and breathability. There is nothing worse than feeling like your foot is entirely locked into something and sweaty while you are out on the golf course. With the Puma Men’s Grip Fusion Sport , that won’t be a concern.

The shoe is made with 50% cotton and 50% polyester. The performance mesh material found throughout the shoe is breathable and easy to keep clean. I wouldn’t recommend wearing these on rainy days as they are certainly not the best for wet weather.

As far as traction is concerned, it’s essential to have good traction even with spineless golf shoes. The pattern on the bottom of the Puma Men’s Fusion Sport does a great job for the mid swing speed players.

Really fast swing speed golfers may want to look at something with actual spikes as it could be easier to stay more grounded and centered. The soft foam in the Puma shoe makes this one of our favorite options for a comfortable summer golf shoe.

Most Comfortable Golf Shoes Buying Guide

Golfers today are lucky that the world of golf shoe manufacturing has adapted to the modern player. In years past, the golf shoes on the market were uncomfortable and made you enjoy getting them off your feet at the end of the round.

Today’s shoes are so comfortable they are worn both on and off the course. Now that you have a better idea as to which golf shoes are the most comfortable in the game, it’s time to understand which would be the best for your golf game. When looking at golf shoes, you want to compare things such as weight, flexibility, pricing, materials, and more.

Weight

Most golfers find that lightweight golf shoe is more comfortable. Not only does it feel good on your foot, but you can also spend most of the day without it on and not feel fatigued. Look for lightweight materials that allow you to walk without extra weight.

Flexibility

The most comfortable golf shoes are often really flexible. This means you can move your foot around in them with ease. Years ago, golf shoes were made with hard rubber, and they were stiffer than the shoes on the market today; look for flexibility if you plan on playing a lot of golf.

Front-Middle-Back Approach

When analyzing the comfort level of a golf shoe, make sure to look at the front, middle, and back of the shoe. The comfort in the middle of the shoe needs to be where you find the cushion and support. You may also find that the center of the shoe has an inlay or orthodic that can be used to help improve comfort and feel.

Pricing

The price of a comfortable golf shoe can range from around $75 to more than $250. The more expensive shoes are those that are waterproof and made with leather. Affordable golf shoes tend to be more of a mesh design. Both options can be good, but you have to consider the playing conditions you are often exposed to.

Materials

The materials inside the golf shoe can improve overall comfort. Most golfers like something that has a bit of foam cushioning in the center of the shoe. When you look at the materials, make sure to consider how long the inlay will last.

Some will get more packed down through the years and cause the shoe to become more uncomfortable.

Last but not least, make sure to consider why you want a more comfortable shoe. Are you walking the golf course? Are you not playing with waterproof shoes, and your feet are wet?

Think about how often you play and your strengths and weaknesses, and you will end up finding the shoe that most closely matches your needs. There are lots of different choices out there.

Are Spikeless Golf Shoes More Comfortable?

Spikeless golf shoes are becoming more and more popular. Golfers love the versatility they get with a shoe like this.

You can wear your shoes from your office directly to the first tee of the course. When you are finished with your round, there is no need to change your shoes.

Spikeless golf shoes can feel a bit more like wearing an athletic shoe or a sneaker, yet they still offer traction patterns designed for a golfer.

Some golfers have had trouble with the spike causing them discomfort as they make their way around the course.

Most players would agree that the majority of spikeless golf shoes are very comfortable.

What Makes A Golf Shoe Comfortable?

The most important thing to look for in a comfortable golf shoe is the materials that were used in its construction. The more foam, mesh, and cushioning that is used, the better the chance that it is going to be comfortable.

You also must ensure that you get a proper fit with your golf shoe choice. If the shoe is tight or narrow around your toe, you may have a hard time considering it comfortable.

Another factor to look for in comfort is the waterproof capabilities of a shoe . If you are a person that plays a lot of golf in story or wet weather, then you know how uncomfortable it is to play golf with wet feet.

You can avoid this inconvenience by choosing a shoe that is waterproof and water-resistant.

Are Golf Shoes or Sneakers Better for Walking The Course?

Years ago, with the golf shoe options that were on the market, it sometimes made more sense to wear sneakers as opposed to golf shoes to walk the course. This is because the golf shoes at the time were heavy leather construction, and they were not always known for being the most comfortable.

Today things have shifted almost entirely in the golf shoe world. Almost all brands are offering shoes that are built for more comfort. One of the major reasons behind this is that people are starting to walk the golf course more and more.

Walking the golf course is starting to become one of the more popular ways to play. There are health benefits to walking, as well as benefits to your golf game.

Luckily the golf shoe choices on our list above are all great options for walking the golf course .

If you are not sure if walking is for you, start the first time by playing nine holes. Chances are you are going to find that golf shoes are a better option than sneakers because of the traction and stability.

The men’s FJ Flex golf shoes have taken the top spot on our list. With the comfort of running shoes or leisure shoes but a golf shoe’s performance, it’s hard to beat the FJ Flex .

Golfers will find that the material is breathable, and their feet stay cool and dry inside the FJ Flex. This is a comfortable golf shoe to consider this year.

How do I care for my new boots?

Golf shoes are designed to withstand the wear and tear that comes with playing on a golf course, so it’s important to take good care of them. Here are a few tips:

– Avoid getting the shoes wet if possible. If they do get wet, stuff them with newspaper and let them air dry.

– Store the shoes in a cool, dry place.

– Use a shoe polish or cream specifically designed for golf shoes to keep them looking their best.

What makes a good golf shoe?

There are a few things to look for in a good golf shoe:

– Support: Golf shoes should provide good support to the foot and ankle, especially during the backswing.

This helps you maintain proper form and prevent injury.

– Traction: Golf shoes should have good traction on the golf course, both on wet and dry surfaces. Look for shoes with sturdy lugs and soles that provide good grip.

– Comfort: A good golf shoe should be comfortable to wear, even during long rounds. Look for shoes with padded tongues and collars, as well as cushioned insoles.

Are these boots safe for golfers?

Most golf shoes are designed to be safe for golfers, but it’s always a good idea to check with your doctor before starting a new exercise or activity. These boots are likely to be fine for golfers, as they provide the support and traction needed on the golf course. They are also made with breathable, durable materials that will keep your feet comfortable and dry all day long. So if you’re looking for a reliable pair of golf shoes, these boots are definitely worth considering.

What’s the difference between golf shoes and running shoes?

The main difference between golf shoes and running shoes is the amount of support and cushioning they provide. Golf shoes are designed to provide more support and stability to the foot and ankle, while running shoes are designed for comfort and shock absorption. Golf shoes also have spiked soles for traction on the golf course, while running shoes have flat soles for traction on the road. So if you’re looking for a shoe to wear on the golf course, you’ll want to choose a golf shoe. But if you’re just looking for a comfortable, everyday shoe, a running shoe might be a better option.

Do golf shoes matter? We ask an expert

Do golf shoes actually make a difference to your game?

a photo of someone playing golf wearing golf shoes

If you’re just starting to play golf, you might be asking yourself: "Do I have to buy golf shoes?"

The short answer to that is no, of course not. But you can't play in your street shoes at most courses, either. Most require some sort of flat-bottomed athletic shoe at the very least, but those will probably not help you to play better. You might be comfortable walking the course in some cross-trainers, but there are drawbacks to going down that route. The best golf shoes really do make a difference.

"Professional golfers refer to their shoes as 'equipment’,'" says Patrick Trubiano, Senior Product Line Manager for FootJoy Footwear, which has owned the lion's share of the golf shoe market for the past half-century. "Golf is no different from any other sport. There are features of the golf shoe that work with the game of the golfer, their swings, and their foot movement."

These days, most golf shoes are pretty comfortable, too, even the inexpensive ones. But there is no one golf shoe that's right for everyone. Here, we explore the different types of shoes and some of the technology that's built into them.

The benefits of golf shoes

While you won't find golf shoes with metal spikes sold in stores anymore (most courses forbid them because they tear up the greens), modern golf shoes still provide plenty of traction, with or without plastic spikes. Luckily, the traction in these shoes is every bit as good (or better) as those metal-spiked shoes of yesteryear.

Most golf shoes are waterproof, while most sneakers are not. So that right there is a good reason to wear golf shoes — there's nothing like getting your feet wet on the first hole and playing the next four hours with waterlogged feet.

Golf shoes are also designed to help walkers make it through 18 holes. Some companies even design energy return in their in-sole foam technology. Plus, even if you don't walk, golf shoes provide the necessary stability to make swings. In fact SQAIRZ , a newer shoe manufacturer that six-time major champion Nick Faldo has invested in, claims that its shoes will result in increased distance because of its incredible stability and "ground connection." According to Faldo, when he tested a pair of SQAIRZ on a range, he hit drives "an average of seven yards farther" than another brand he tested. While we don't cast doubt on Faldo's claim, the point is that golf shoes can certainly make a difference.

Do beginners need golf shoes?

Some instructors actually like the idea of players practicing in sneakers so they don't try to swing too hard. Without much traction — which is the case when a golfer plays in sneakers — good tempo, balance and swinging within one's self are all required to hit a decent shot. But overall all golfers, including beginners, should invest in a pair of specialist shoes.

Indeed, even beginners are handicapping themselves by not playing in golf shoes. (Here's how to calculate your golf handicap ). Granted, if you only play once a year you probably don't want to invest in a pair, but if you're taking up the game it's necessary equipment. Plus, the technology in modern golf shoes has come a long way. You can now find mesh uppers and outsoles that move with your foot, soft leathers, and incredible styling that's sure to please every golfer.

a photo of someone playing golf wearing spiked golf shoes

What are the differences between spikes and spikeless shoes?

If you're thinking you absolutely have to have shoes with seven or more sets of spikes in each sole to have traction, you're mistaken. Thanks to today’s technology and modern TPU (thermoplastic urethane) materials, it’s possible to choose spikeless outsoles with designs that nevertheless still very much grab the ground.

One of the advantages of playing in spikeless shoes is that they are easy to wear both on and off the course. A golfer can play 18 holes, then just make sure the shoes are clean and wear them into the clubhouse for dinner at many clubs.

Most serious golfers, however, have more than one pair of shoes, and may have both spikeless and spiked golf shoes depending on conditions. Spiked shoes may be a better choice for a hilly or wet course, while spikeless might be more comfortable if you're walking in dry conditions.

Because the technology is so good, spikeless shoe sales have soared in the last few years. While less than a quarter of tour players wear spikeless shoes, consumers are split down the middle according to Trubiano. Interestingly, for women golfers, the market is nearly 80 percent spikeless. A bestseller over the past few years has been FootJoy's Pro SL models, a range of spikeless shoes worn by avid golfers and tour players alike that performs as well as just about anything on the market.

How often do you need to buy golf shoes?

Golf shoes today are so well built that they last remarkably long. If you play once a week you can probably get through a couple of seasons or more with one pair of golf shoes. But if you have more than one pair, it's a good idea to rotate them to get more life out of them. Cleaning your golf shoes can also help them last longer.

In general, though, it depends on how serious a player you are. Many golfers get a new pair every year, not only for performance, but for fashion as well. That's right, let's not forget that in addition to golf shoes being equipment, they are also apparel, an important part of your overall look. So even if you're not a great player, golf shoes will help you look the part! In fact, some golfers like to have a lot of different colors to go with different outfits, and there's nothing wrong with that.
