It was a cloudy day when I took my first step into the compound of my school. I was carrying a new backpack that was filled with notebooks. Though the backpack was a bit heavy, instead of focusing on the weight, I was excited about the beginning of my journey on my first day in school.

My classroom was at the end of the corridor. As I entered my classroom, my class teacher introduced me to the class and made me feel welcome. Activities like reading, solving problems in groups, and sharing our lunch boxes slowly and steadily transformed the new student with a sense of belonging.

The whole day progressed with mixed excitement as well as emotions. As the bell rang, declaring the end of the school day, the school felt like a world of possibilities where the journey was more than textbooks.

It was a sunny day and the sun was shining brightly. With my new and attractive backpack, I was moving through the school gate. It was my first day in school and I was filled with nervousness and excitement. From the tower of the building to the playground everything was bigger than life. The corridor was filled with the echo of students. As I entered the classroom, wearing a mix of curiosity and excitement, my classmates and class teacher welcomed me with a warm smile. My first day in school started by stepping onto the school bus with a bag full of books and a heart full of curiosity. It was like I was starting a new chapter in my life. After travelling a long way back, I stepped at the gate of my school. The school gate welcomed me with open arms and greeted me with a sense of excitement as well as nervousness.

As I entered the classroom, I found many new faces. Arranging my stuff on the seat, I sat next to an unknown, who later on turned into the best friend of my life. At first, I hesitated to interact with the children, but later on, I was a part of a group that invited me to join the table. At lunchtime, I made many new friends and was no longer a stranger. After having delicious food and chit-chatting with friends, we get back to our respective classrooms. Different subjects such as mathematics, science, and English never left the same impact as they did on the first day of school. 

The teacher taught the lessons so interestingly that we learned the chapter with a mix of laughter and learning. At the end of the day, we all went straight to the playground and enjoyed the swings. Moreover, in the playground, I also met many faces who were new to the school and had their first day in school, like me.

While returning home, I realised that my first day was not just about learning new subjects; it was about making new friends, sailing into new vibrant classrooms, and settling myself as a new student. The morning, which was full of uncertainty at the end of the day, came to an end with exciting adventures and endless possibilities. With new experiences, I look forward to new academic and personal growth in the wonderful world of education.

It also has a beautiful garden where students relax and play during recess. Even in games, sports and tournaments, it has made much progress. My school has won many trophies, shields, and medals in many extra-curricular activities. In debates also, the students of my school secure good positions. It is considered to be one of the best schools in my locality.

The school is called the educational institution which is designed to provide learning spaces and create an environment for the children where the teaching of the students is under the direction and guidance of the teachers.

My School is one of the best educational institutions where I get an education and make progress towards the goals of my life and make me capable of achieving them. My school is a government primary school located on the outskirts of the city. Usually, when people think about a government school, they perceive it to be at an isolated location and have poor basic amenities and teaching facilities. But, despite being a government school, my school defies all such speculations. Teachers of my school are not only knowledgeable about the subjects they teach but also are skilled enough to teach through fun activities. For example, our physics teacher explains every concept by stating real-life examples that we could relate to. This way we not only understand the subject better. Moreover, not a moment I remember, when any teacher had ever replied rudely to any of the students. They always patiently listen and provide answers to all the queries posed to them. Learning at my school is fun and it is made possible only because of the teachers.

My school is very important in my life, in a way even more than my family. My family gives me love, care, and affection, and provides for all my other essential needs. But, all of this isn’t enough to make me a good human being and succeed in life.  Favorably, I am lucky enough to be enrolled in a prestigious school, and gaining a wonderful education, looking forward to realizing my dreams one day. The most necessary for success in life is education, and only my school provides it to me. Without my school and the education that it gives, I would be like a confused and wandering soul, almost aimless in life.

My school helps with my educational and overall personality development. It imparts education through classes, tests, and exams to teach me how to conduct myself confidently. It just feels so great to be in my school and be a part of everyday activities, be it lectures, sports, or Something else. While in school, I always feel happy, confident, enthusiastic, and loved. I make friends at school, those whom I will never forget and will always love them. My family supports my materialistic needs, but school is the place where my actual physical, social, and mental development takes place.  I know that every question that crosses my mind will be answered by my teachers. I also know that my school friends will always be at my side whenever I need them to be. As much as the studies, my school also stresses much on These activities as the management thinks that extracurricular activities are very essential for our overall personality development. My school provides dedicated teachers and staff for each extracurricular activity. We have a big sports ground with kits for all the major sports; a covered auditorium for dance and music and a separate basketball court.

The role my school plays in my personality development is fantastic. It not only imparts education in me but also teaches me how to conduct myself and how to behave decently and properly. I get trained in all the other necessary skills of life, like how to keep calm in challenging situations and help others as well. My school teaches me to be a good and evolved human being, to stay composed and progressive always. It also teaches me to be kind and generous to others and not differentiate them based on their caste, religion, ethnicity, or other divisions. These are some of the most essential personality traits that my school imparts to me, something that I will always be thankful for. Every time I think of my school, I think of it as a temple of education. A temple, where my soul meets education, making my life more meaningful and useful to society and the nation as well. It is a place where my aspirations get a wing and I get the strength and confidence to realize them. No other place in the entire world could replace my school and the role that it plays in my life. I will always be thankful to my friends, teachers, and the staff of my school, for making it such a comfortable and Educational place of learning.

I didn’t know how to react. I have seen my sister going to school daily, sometimes she was happy about it, but sometimes she was very reluctant to go and made silly excuses to avoid school. My parents had also brought a very cute school uniform. I liked it and was excited to wear it. But I still had no idea about how the first day of school was going to be.

How My First Day At School Started

The next morning, I dressed up very early in excitement. I ate my breakfast and Mummy packed a small tiffin box for me. At 8 o'clock, I went to the school in my father’s red car.

When I Reached My School

The school building was huge. It was painted with cartoons. I got happy when I saw my favourite cartoon characters, Tom & Jerry painted on the walls too. My father left me at the school gate to a peon after instructing him about my class. The peon picked me up very gently and started walking through the endless corridors. I could see the huge playground in the middle of the school building. It had all kinds of swings in it. For a moment, I wanted to run away to my favourite Merry-Go-Round, but I dropped that temptation and was dropped in front of my class by the peon.

My Classroom

The class had 15 chairs, all painted with cartoon characters. The wall had ABCs and numbers painted on it. It was a very cheerful and colourful environment. My eyes immediately glanced through the students already sitting there. They all were lost in their world. Some were sobering, while some were making drawings with crayons.

After a few minutes, our teacher came. She asked each of us our names and hobbies, and then she introduced herself to us. Then, she asked everyone to name the animals and birds painted on a picture board. We all begin singing the names. It was very fun. She was impressed with us and gave us candies at the end of the lesson.

After 2 hours, a bell rang for lunch. I took out my tiffin and started feasting on my sandwiches. A boy came to me, and said that sandwiches are his favourite. I knew his name by now, Ansh. I quickly offered him one and he was very happy. We soon became friends and chatted endlessly about Spider-Man, Iron Man and Tom and Jerry.

After learning that his favourite cartoon was also Tom and Jerry , I instantly knew I got my first school friend. 14 years forward, Ansh is still my best friend, and I am always thankful to him for making my first day at school a very fond memory.

A New Experience

My first day at school was a completely new experience for me. It is because the atmosphere completely changes for any child. You always stay in the comfort and safety of your own home.

However, your first day at school opens door to unknown experiences and opportunities. Much like any other child, I was also scared on my first day. I remember clearly not letting go of my mother’s hand, hesitant to go in the classroom.

On my first day, I got up excited and put on my uniform for the first time. The feeling it gave me was so memorable, I can never forget it. As it was my first day, both my parents went to drop me off.

I remember seeing the classroom full of little children. Some crying while the others playing with others. I looked at my mother and gave her the look that I didn’t want them to leave. They had to go so I kept crying but eventually, my teacher consoled me.

Once I settled in the class, I talked with the other kids and started playing with them. The colourful walls of the classroom fascinated me a lot. We got many toys to play with so it all the other kids also got distracted and stopped crying.

My Sister My Saviour

My advantage was that my sister was also studying in the same school. She is 3 years older than me so she was my senior. During recess, I was starting to miss my parents so I got teary-eyed.

But, then my sister came to meet me and I feel she was no less than a saviour for me that day. She took permission from the teacher to take me out and I went with her to the playground.

We were swinging throughout recess. All my worries went away because I had a known face with me. After eating and swinging together, the bell rang to mark the end of the recess . So, she dropped me back to my class.

Before leaving, she gave me a kiss and patted my head. It was enough for me to go through the rest of the day without crying. Thus, it made me feel extremely blessed that I had my sister there for me.

Sometimes she tells us stories as well. On any special occasion, she gives us cakes and chocolates. We also bring a cake for ma’am on our birthdays. Last year we celebrated her birthday also. I gifted her a drawing of mine. She was really happy. We feel very lucky being taught by Anitama’am. We are proud of our class teacher. A lot of her students are quite successful today. We also wish to be her successful students in the future.

I think the best teacher is a gift of God to us. We always thank God for blessing us with a good teacher like Anita ma’am.

She explains the chapter in simple language so that all students can understand the lesson very easily. Every student in my class waits for her period excitedly. She also teaches us and guides us on good things and good manners. Though she is strict regarding the classwork and homework she is a very lovely teacher. During the time of Christmas or on special occasions she always brings chocolate for us.

Every teacher is a great belonging to our nation. That is why on 5 September of every year we celebrate “Teacher’s Day” to give thanks to our teachers for teaching us different sides of life.  I am feeling lucky to be taught by Ms Reena.

The citation of trustworthy and course-relevant sources is a cornerstone of a well-written essay that is grounded in proven facts. Establish the credibility of authoritative books written by scholars, the latest research journals, and websites that your information can be sourced from. Confirm the sources you use are current and focus on what you are writing about. 

Craft a Persuasive Conclusion

Titling the conclusion is a must when you want your audience to remember it for the future. undefined

Restate thesis. Remind readers of your main point by summarizing your initial argument.

Summarize key points. Quickly recapitulate the main points presented in the article.

Final thoughts. Highlight your insights or give an indication about your topic.

Closing statement. Conclude by summarizing your main idea and leaving the last thought that would be memorable.

Revise and Edit for Clarity and Coherence

When you do your draft, it’s most effective to edit it again for precision and rightness of details. You may want to go over each paragraph to make your text consistent and organize the information smoothly. Make sure you eliminate inconsistencies and gaps in your own argument by introducing the relevant corrections in your essay to expound on your viewpoint. Highlight clarity by making sentences less complicated and replacing jargon or repetition with what is not mandatory. 

Proofread for Grammar and Spelling Errors

After writing an essay and checking the content and structure, the next logical step is to carefully proofread your essay to eliminate any mistakes in grammar or spelling. Search for typical errors, which can include erroneous verb tenses, punctuation mistakes, and misspelled words, among others. Pay attention to every detail, such as the agreement between subject and verb and the proper use of apostrophes. 

Bottom Line

The essay prompt should be understood before starting the discussion. Otherwise, it is difficult to have a proper discussion. Extensive study helps to back up your claims with empirical evidence that is substantial and reliable. A carefully formulated thesis statement and a well-arranged outline will lay out a good framework on which you can develop your essay. 

An effective opening catches and keeps the attention of your audience, and engaging body paragraphs along with credible sources constitute your main argument. A strong conclusion summarizes your key messages and leaves a big impact. Finally, you need to go through it again for clarification and to proofread grammar and spelling mistakes to polish your paper to perfection.

How Did You Grow and Change This School Year?

In this forum, we invite both students and teachers to reflect on their challenges and successes — and to consider how to build on them for next year.

The 2023-24 academic year is coming to a close, and we have a post describing 10 ways to reflect on these last months and learn from them. But the 10 ways aren’t just for students — we also hope teachers can benefit from them. In fact, we would be delighted if teachers and students did some of the exercises together and told us what happened!

We invite you to post a comment reflecting on any aspect of this school year that you would like to make public, and we have provided some questions below to get you started.

We hope, too, that you will not only post your own reflections but also comment on the thoughts of others. As always, our staff will moderate comments , and we can’t wait to learn from you.

School plays a very important role in a child’s life. Besides studies, a school also helps a child build up personality and character. A child spends a large amount of time in their formative years at school. Here’s a short paragraph on the topic:

My school is one of the most well-known schools in town. The name of my school is ABC , located in XYZ . We have a big white school building. Every time our bus enters the school, I see colourful flowers in the long gardens on both sides. The sight makes me happy every day. We have big classrooms. We can see mountains through the windows of our classrooms. We gather in the school auditorium and have a prayer assembly every morning. Our teachers are very helpful and polite, and they take care of us. We have two short breaks and one lunch break. We have a big playground where we have a lot of fun. Our school also has a park where we have a see-saw, swings, slides, climbers, and tubes. We also have a separate games class where we only play games. I love that class. During tiffin breaks, I love sharing my tiffin with my friends. I love the fact that I get to go to school every day.

We also have big classrooms with big windows, and through the windows, we love seeing the mountains far away. On a sunny day, we can see the snow-capped mountain top.

Our teachers are very loving, polite, and caring. We have a separate class for extracurricular activities like singing, dancing, and crafts. I enjoy those classes very much. We also have a games period. We go to the playground and play different games during the games period. We also play in the park, which is made for small children like us. I also have many good friends in school with whom I play and share my pencils and erasers. I also share my tiffin with them. We have a school canteen where we get yummy dumplings, dosas, idlis, sandwiches, chips, and so much more. Once a week, my mother gives me money to go and buy food from the canteen. I share the food I buy with my friends. I love my friends and my teachers.

Your child will learn to think about different aspects of the school they study in. It will develop their observation and thought process, especially physical aspects like the colour of the school building, the ground, etc. They will also learn the important role of teachers. Besides respecting the teachers, your child will also learn to appreciate people’s work, like the gardener or the janitor. The child will learn the importance of their friends with whom they share things, along with discipline and honesty. They will also learn the value of serving others and the value of truthfulness and love.

When kids in Class 3 write essays, it plays a major role in developing their mental ability. Their observation skills improve as they think about everything they see and pen their thoughts down on paper. Their thought process improves along with their vocabulary and creative thinking. Writing such essays also often leave an impact on building kids’ characters and personalities. Therefore, kids must always be encouraged to write essays.

I Invited My Students to Be the Principal for a Day. Here’s What I Learned

There is tired and then there’s “educator tired.”

More meetings, more conflicts to mediate, more data to collect and analysis overload, and more staffing decisions—the to-do list is exhausting. By springtime, most of us are operating on empty tanks while battling a seasonal-affective slump carried over from the winter.

With some degree of consistency, we can predict the times of the year when staff morale is highest, as well as the months when you can expect teachers to be crawling toward the finish line of upcoming school breaks. I heard a person once say, “If we can predict it, then we can influence it.”

In this biweekly column , principals and other authorities on school leadership—including researchers, education professors, district administrators, and assistant principals—offer timely and timeless advice for their peers.

Like many principals, I’m an optimistic person by nature. But in mid-February, I felt myself struggling to change my heartache of stress into heartfelt joy.

When I analyzed why I was feeling this way, it became clear that I wasn’t living my “why” for working in public education. I was drowning in meetings that discussed adult issues instead of being focused on student learning and the experience of being a student at my school.

After consulting with a colleague, I decided to change how I was spending my time at work. That small change had a huge impact on my ability to refocus and feel fulfilled.

Several years ago, I participated in a principal challenge for which I shadowed a student for a day. It was an amazing experience that allowed me to better understand my school from a student’s perspective.

As I reflected on how to reenergize several months ago, I decided to try this activity once again at my new school—but with a twist. I wanted to help bridge the divide between students and adults. This time, I offered my students the opportunity to be principal for the day by following me as I made my rounds with classroom visits and staff member meetings.

My request of the students who joined me was simple: 1) Get parent permission, 2) be responsible for the work you missed in class, 3) communicate with your teachers that you would be with me for the day, and 4) write up a one-page summary of the events of the day and your reflections.

To my surprise, I was flooded with student requests. Just the idea of having a shared experience with the students we serve was uplifting. I marveled at the idea that students would want to know what my job entailed. It was a great way to connect and build kinship between students and the leaders that serve them.

What I imagined would be one day with one student shadowing me evolved into three days of multiple students per day participating in this activity.

Here are some of the lessons from the students who joined me:

• Students and staff have a right to speak up, even if they are the only dissenting voice.
• Keep an open mind when people bring concerns to you. The importance of growing from mistakes was highlighted.
• Treat everyone with respect, no matter their position.
• Communication should be two ways, not a monologue.
• Make time to help others.

They enjoyed seeing the authentic and positive relationships that occur between administration and students and staff, but I was just as happy to learn from the students. They shared that they were surprised to see how well staff got along with each other behind the scenes, as well as with students in the hallways and classrooms. Our first shadow-the-principal day was March 14 (aka Pi Day in the math world), so the students had a chance to eat pie while talking with teachers in the math workroom.

My “apprentices” also enjoyed hearing a student share his idea for completing his Eagle Scout project that provided diabetic kits for students in need. He and I brainstormed various ways to complete the project, as well as how to market and sustain it in the years to come. The students later commented that they were surprised to observe an administrator working alongside their peers, generating ideas together.

Besides circulating throughout the school and speaking with a number of students and staff, the apprentices and I discussed ways that artificial intelligence could be used to facilitate teaching and learning in a positive way. I always find it enlightening to hear students’ technology ideas, including for AI use—for example, to assist with study tips or to organize their notes—were as innovative as I had heard from any presenters.

Finally, we ended the day by taking a stroll around the track at our football stadium. I shared that I like to go outside as much as I can to exercise and gather my thoughts. I try to do that once per week as part of my self-care routine. The students shared that they were pleasantly surprised to hear me prioritize that type of activity and that they thought their peers would benefit from such an activity as well.

I’m proud of my students for taking a chance on being a leader for the day. Students in 2024 have so many pressures facing them, so accepting one more thing can be a daunting task.

Here’s a challenge for everyone reading this article: Make time to prioritize your own “why.” This is especially important as we enter the final marking period of the year, when emotions tend to run high and stamina tends to wane.

Fill your tank with the kind of energy that inspired you to enter our profession. Look for the moments in your school on a daily basis when you can be kind, learn something new, build a new relationship, and spend time with those that brought you into a career in education—your students!
