ഇന്നു പരിസ്ഥിതിദിനം. ഭാവിയിൽ കേരളം അഭിമുഖീകരിക്കാൻ പോകുന്ന പരിസ്ഥിതി പ്രശ്നങ്ങൾ എന്തൊക്കെ എന്ന അന്വേഷണം.

1. മാലിന്യകേരളം

കേരളം ഒരുദിവസം പുറന്തള്ളുന്നത് ഉദ്ദേശം 10000 ടൺ മാലിന്യം. ഏതെങ്കിലും രീതിയിൽ സംസ്കരിക്കപ്പടുന്നതു പരമാവധി 5000 ടൺ മാത്രം. ബാക്കി 5000 ടൺ മാലിന്യം കേരളത്തിലങ്ങോളമിങ്ങോളം ചിതറിക്കിടക്കുന്നു. ഏതുനിമിഷവും പൊട്ടിപ്പുറപ്പെട്ടേക്കാവുന്ന പകർച്ചവ്യാധികളിലേക്കുള്ള തീക്കൊള്ളികളാണു നാം കവറിൽ കെട്ടി ഇങ്ങനെ വലിച്ചെറിയുന്നത്. കേരളം നേരിടുന്ന ഏറ്റവും ഗുരുതരപ്രതിസന്ധി മാലിന്യമാണെന്നു മാറിവരുന്ന സർക്കാരുകൾ ഏറ്റുപറഞ്ഞിട്ടും മാലിന്യസംസ്കരണത്തിനു ഫലപ്രദമായ മാർഗങ്ങൾ ഇനിയും തുടങ്ങാൻ കഴിഞ്ഞിട്ടില്ല. വികേന്ദ്രീകൃതമാലിന്യസംസ്കരണം ആശാവഹമാണെങ്കിലും ഇതിന്റെ പ്രായോഗികത ഇപ്പോഴും ചോദ്യചിഹ്നം.

2. കാലം തെറ്റുന്ന കാലാവസ്ഥ

കാലാവസ്ഥാ വ്യതിയാനം മൂലം കേരളത്തിലെ ചൂട് 100 വർഷത്തിനുള്ളിൽ 4.5 ഡിഗ്രി സെൽഷ്യസ് കൂടുമെന്നാണു ശാസ്ത്രലോകത്തിന്റെ മുന്നറിയിപ്പ്. മഴ കുറയും, പ്രകൃതിദുരന്തങ്ങളുടെ എണ്ണം കൂടും.എട്ടു വർഷത്തിനിടെ കേരളത്തിൽ നെല്ല് ഉൽപാദനത്തിൽ ആറു ശതമാനവും സുഗന്ധവിളയിൽ 20 ശതമാനവും കുറവുണ്ടായി. നാളികേര ഉൽപാദനം 10% കുറഞ്ഞു.ജനിതകമാറ്റം വന്ന പുതിയതരം വൈറസുകളും രോഗങ്ങളും കാലാവസ്ഥാ മാറ്റത്തിന്റെ മറ്റൊരു ലക്ഷണം. 

3. ശാന്തമല്ല, കടൽ

ആറുമാസം മുൻപ് ഓഖി ചുഴലിക്കാറ്റിൽ 52 പേർ മരിക്കുകയും 91 പേരെ കാണാതാകുകയും ചെയ്തപ്പോൾ ശാസ്ത്രലോകം ഒരു മുന്നറിയിപ്പു തന്നു–അറബിക്കടൽ പഴയ അറബിക്കടലല്ല. ഇനി ചുഴലിക്കാറ്റ് അടിക്കടി ഉണ്ടാകാം. സാഗറും മേകുനുവും കേരളത്തെ കാര്യമായി ബാധിച്ചില്ലെങ്കിലും കരുതിയിരുന്നേ മതിയാകൂ എന്നതിന്റെ സൂചനകളാണിത്.

അറബിക്കടലിൽ താപനില വർധിക്കുന്നതാണു ചുഴലിസാധ്യത കൂട്ടുന്നത്. ശരാശരി 30 ഡിഗ്രി വരെ ചൂടുപിടിച്ചു കിടക്കുന്ന അറബിക്കടലിൽ വൻ നഗരങ്ങളിൽ നിന്നുള്ള കാർബൺ പുറന്തള്ളൽ മൂലം ചൂട് പിന്നെയും കൂടുന്നു. ഓക്‌സിജന്റെ അളവു കുറയുന്നതുമൂലം അറബിക്കടലിന്റെ പല ഭാഗങ്ങളിലും മൃതമേഖല (ഡെഡ്‌ സോൺ) രൂപപ്പെടുന്നുണ്ട്. മൽസ്യങ്ങൾ ചത്തുപൊങ്ങുന്നതിനൊപ്പം ചെറിയ ജീവികളും കടൽസസ്യങ്ങളും പവിഴപ്പുറ്റുകളും നശിക്കും. ആഗോളതപനത്തിനു പുറമെ വൻനഗരങ്ങളിൽ നിന്നുള്ള ഓടജലം, മൽസ്യഫാമുകളിൽ നിന്നുള്ള പുറന്തള്ളൽ തുടങ്ങി പ്ലാസ്‌റ്റിക് വരെയുള്ള മാലിന്യങ്ങൾ കുന്നുകൂടുന്നതാണ് സമുദ്രഘടനയിലെ രാസമാറ്റത്തിനു പിന്നിൽ.

4. ജലമാലിന്യം

കേരളത്തിലെ 80 ശതമാനം കിണറും മലിനമെന്നാണു സംസ്ഥാന സർക്കാരിന്റെ പരിസ്ഥിതി ധവളപത്രത്തിലെ കണക്ക്. വിസർജ്യ വസ്തുക്കളിൽ കാണുന്ന ബാക്ടീരിയകളാണ് കിണറുകളിൽ നിറഞ്ഞിരിക്കുന്നത്. 

തീരപ്രദേശത്തെ ഭൂഗർഭ ജലത്തിൽ ഉപ്പുരസത്തിന്റെ അളവ് ക്രമാതീതമായി വർധിച്ചു. പാലക്കാട്, ആലപ്പുഴ ജില്ലകളിലെ ഭൂഗർഭ ജലസ്രോതസ്സുകളിൽ അമിതതോതിൽ ഫ്ലൂറൈഡ് കണ്ടെത്തി. വ്യവസായങ്ങൾ മൂലമുള്ള ഭൂഗർഭ ജല മലിനീകരണം എറണാകുളം, കൊല്ലം, കോഴിക്കോട്, പാലക്കാട്, കണ്ണൂർ ജില്ലകളിലുമുണ്ട്. വ്യവസായ മാലിന്യങ്ങളും കീടനാശിനികളും ജലാശയങ്ങളിലേക്ക് ഒഴുകിയിറങ്ങിയതോടെ കുട്ടനാട്ടിലെ തണ്ണീർത്തടങ്ങളിലും വേമ്പനാട്ടു കായലിലും ശുദ്ധജല തടാകങ്ങളിലും ഓക്സിജൻ സാന്നിധ്യം അപകടകരമായ നിലയിൽ കുറയുന്നു.

5. എങ്ങനെ ശ്വസിക്കും?

ഡൽഹിയെ അപേക്ഷിച്ച് നോക്കുമ്പോൾ കേരളം ഭേദമാണ്, വായുമലിനീകരണത്തിന്റെ കാര്യത്തിലെങ്കിലും. എന്നാൽ, കൊച്ചിയും കോഴിക്കോടും ഉൾപ്പെടെയുള്ള നഗരങ്ങളിൽ വായുമലിനീകരണം വർധിച്ചുവരുന്നുവെന്നാണു പുതിയ പഠനങ്ങൾ തെളിയിക്കുന്നത്. വാഹനങ്ങൾ, നിരത്തിലെ പൊടിപടലങ്ങൾ, മാലിന്യങ്ങൾ കത്തിച്ചുള്ള മലിനീകരണം എന്നിവയാണു വായുമലിനീകരണത്തിന്റെ പ്രധാന കാരണം. സംസ്കരണത്തിനുള്ള മാർഗങ്ങൾ ഇല്ലാത്തതുമൂലം പ്ലാസ്റ്റിക് കത്തിക്കുന്നതും കേരളത്തിൽ വ്യാപകമാണ്.

6. മഴക്കുറവ്, ചൂടേറ്റം

സംസ്ഥാനത്തിന്റെ കിഴക്കൻ ഭാഗങ്ങളിൽ മഴ ശരാശരി 38% കുറഞ്ഞു. ഭൂഗർഭ ജലനിരപ്പ് വർഷം തോറും കുറയുന്നു. പത്തോളം താലൂക്കുകൾ സ്ഥായിയായ വരൾച്ചാ ഭീഷണിയിലേക്കു നീങ്ങുന്നു. കേരളത്തിലെ 90% പ്രദേശങ്ങളും വരൾച്ചാസാധ്യത ഭൂപടത്തിലുണ്ട്. കാലാവസ്‌ഥാമാറ്റം മൂലം സമീപഭാവിയിൽ വീണ്ടും കേരളത്തിൽ മഴ കുറയുമെന്നാണു വിദഗ്ധർ നൽകുന്ന മുന്നറിയിപ്പ്.

കേരളത്തിന്റെ അന്തരീക്ഷ താപനില ഓരോവർഷവും 0.01 ഡിഗ്രി വീതം കൂടുന്നതായാണു കാലാവസ്ഥാ വകുപ്പിന്റെ കണക്ക്. ആറു പതിറ്റാണ്ടിനിടെ 0.99 ഡിഗ്രി ശരാശരി താപനില ഉയർന്നു. 

ഇടുക്കി ജില്ലയിലെ രാമക്കൽമേട്, കമ്പംമെട്ട്, ബോഡിമെട്ട് എന്നീ സ്ഥലങ്ങളിലെ 450 ചതുരശ്രയടി ഭൂമി കള്ളിമുൾച്ചെടി മാത്രം വളരുന്ന തരിശുനിലമായി. 

7. കടലാക്രമണം,  തീരശോഷണം

ഈ നൂറ്റാണ്ടിന്റെ അവസാനത്തോടെ കേരളത്തിന്റെ പകുതിഭാഗം കടൽ വിഴുങ്ങുമെന്നാണു വിദഗ്ധരുടെ മുന്നറിയിപ്പ്. ഈ നൂറ്റാണ്ട് അവസാനിക്കുന്നതോടെ ആഗോള താപനത്തിന്റെ ഫലമായി സമുദ്രനിരപ്പ് ഇപ്പോഴുള്ളതിനേക്കാൾ 50 സെന്റീമീറ്റർ വരെ ഉയർന്നേക്കും. സമുദ്രനിരപ്പിൽനിന്ന് ഒരുമീറ്റർ ശരാശരി ഉയരത്തിലാണു കേരളത്തിന്റെ തീരം. 40 സെന്റിമീറ്റർ സമുദ്രനിരപ്പ് ഉയർന്നാൽ കുട്ടനാടും മൺറോ തുരുത്തും ഉൾപ്പെടെ താഴ്ന്ന മേഖലകൾ സമുദ്രത്തിനടിയിലാകും.

കേരളത്തിലെ 590 കിലോമീറ്റർ കടൽത്തീരത്തെ 215.5 കിലോമീറ്റർ (36.6%) രൂക്ഷമായ കടലാക്രമണസാധ്യതാ മേഖല. 10 വർഷത്തിനിടെ കടലാക്രമണം മൂലം നഷ്ടമായതു 493 ഹെക്ടർ കരഭൂമി.

8. കണ്ണീരായി തണ്ണീർത്തടങ്ങൾ

കേരളത്തിൽ വയലുകളുടെ വിസ്തൃതി കഴിഞ്ഞ 40 വർഷം കൊണ്ട് 7.54 ലക്ഷം ഹെക്ടറിൽനിന്ന്് 1.9 ലക്ഷം ഹെക്ടറായി. അതിലോല ആവാസ വ്യവസ്ഥകളിൽ ഒന്നായ തണ്ണീർത്തടങ്ങളിൽ 49 ശതമാനത്തിന്റെ കുറവുണ്ടായി. കണ്ടൽക്കാടുകളുടെ ആകെ വിസ്തീർണം 700 ചതുരശ്ര കിലോമീറ്ററിൽ നിന്നു വെറും ഒൻപതു ചതുരശ്ര കിലോമീറ്ററായി ചുരുങ്ങി.

9. കാടെവിടെ മക്കളെ?

രേഖകൾ പ്രകാരം കേരളത്തിൽ കാടിന്റെ വിസ്തൃതി വർധിക്കുന്നുണ്ടെങ്കിലും വനനാശം വ്യാപകമാകുന്നുവെന്ന് വിദഗ്ധർ. പ്രതിവർഷം ശരാശരി 3000 ഹെക്ടർ കാട് കാട്ടുതീമൂലം നശിക്കുന്നു. 2009 മുതൽ 2014 വരെ നശിച്ചതു 18,170 ഹെക്ടർ. കാടുവിട്ട് വന്യജീവികൾ വെള്ളവും പച്ചത്തീറ്റയും തേടി മനുഷ്യവാസ കേന്ദ്രങ്ങളിലേക്കിറങ്ങുന്നത് വ്യാപകമായി.

കേരളത്തിന്റെ ആവാസവ്യവസ്ഥ സംരക്ഷിക്കുന്നതിൽ നിർണായകപങ്കു വഹിക്കുന്ന പശ്ചിമഘട്ടം നേരിടുന്ന പ്രധാന ഭീഷണികളിലൊന്ന് അനധികൃത ക്വാറികളാണ്. പാറയും മണ്ണുമൊക്കെ കടത്തുമ്പോൾ വലിയൊരു പാരിസ്ഥിതിക ഭീഷണി കൂടിയാണ് നാം സൃഷ്ടിക്കുന്നത്. കേരളത്തിൽ 5924 കരിങ്കൽ ക്വാറികൾ പ്രവർത്തിക്കുന്നുണ്ടെന്നും ഇതിൽ 354 എണ്ണം ഭൂകമ്പമേഖലയുടെ ഒരുകിലോമീറ്റർ പരിധിക്കകത്താണെന്നും കേരള വനഗവേഷണ കേന്ദ്രം മുന്നറിയിപ്പു നൽകുന്നു. 3000 ക്വാറികൾ പ്രവർത്തിക്കുന്നത് അനുമതിയില്ലെതായാണെന്നു നിയമസഭ പരിസ്ഥിതി സമിതി റിപ്പോർട്ടിലുണ്ട്.

10. വംശനാശ ഭീഷണിയിൽ 205 ജീവികൾ

കേരളത്തിൽ 205 കശേരുക ജീവികൾ (നട്ടെല്ലുള്ളവ) വംശനാശ ഭീഷണിയിലാണ്. കേരളത്തിലും സംസ്ഥാനാതിർത്തിയിൽ പശ്ചിമഘട്ടത്തിലുമായി കാണുന്ന 1847 കശേരുക ജീവികളുടെ 11% വരും ഇത്. ഇവയിൽ 148 ഇനം കേരളത്തിലും പശ്ചിമ ഘട്ടത്തിലും മാത്രം കാണുന്നവ. വംശനാശം സംഭവിച്ചാൽ ഈ ഭൂമുഖത്തുനിന്നു തന്നെ ഇവ തുടച്ചുനീക്കപ്പെടും. ഇവയിൽ 23 ഇനങ്ങൾ അതീവ വംശനാശ ഭീഷണി നേരിടുന്നെങ്കിൽ 90 ഇനം വംശനാശ ഭീഷണി നേരിടുന്നവയും 92 ഇനം വംശനാശ ഭീഷണിയുള്ളവയുമാണ്.

പാരിസ്ഥിതിക മാറ്റങ്ങൾ ദുരന്തങ്ങളല്ല. അവയെ ഫലപ്രദമായി നേരിടാൻ കഴിയാതിരിക്കുമ്പോഴാണു ദുരന്തമായി മാറുന്നത്. കേരളം ഭാവിയിൽ നേരിടാൻ പോകുന്ന പരിസ്ഥിതി പ്രശ്നങ്ങളെയോ അവയെ നേരിടേണ്ട മാർഗങ്ങളെയോ കുറിച്ച് സംസ്ഥാന സർക്കാർ ഇതുവരെ ശാസ്ത്രീയ പഠനങ്ങളൊന്നും നടത്തിയിട്ടില്ല. പരിസ്ഥിതിദിനാചരണം അത്തരം ചിന്തകൾക്കുള്ള വേദികൂടിയായാണ് മാറേണ്ടത്.

How Air Gets Polluted?

The fossil fuel , firewood, and other things that we burn produce oxides of carbons which got released into the atmosphere. Earlier there happens to be a large number of trees which can easily filter the air we breathe in. But with the increase in demand for land, the people started cutting down of trees which caused deforestation. That ultimately reduced the filtering capacity of the tree.

Moreover, during the last few decades, the numbers of fossil fuel burning vehicle increased rapidly which increased the number of pollutants in the air .

Causes Of Air Pollution

Its causes include burning of fossil fuel and firewood, smoke released from factories , volcanic eruptions, forest fires, bombardment, asteroids, CFCs (Chlorofluorocarbons), carbon oxides and many more.

Besides, there are some other air pollutants like industrial waste, agricultural waste, power plants, thermal nuclear plants, etc.

The greenhouse effect is also the cause of air pollution because air pollution produces the gases that greenhouse involves. Besides, it increases the temperature of earth surface so much that the polar caps are melting and most of the UV rays are easily penetrating the surface of the earth.

Ways To Reduce Air Pollution

Although the level of air pollution has reached a critical point. But, there are still ways by which we can reduce the number of air pollutants from the air.

Reforestation- The quality of air can be improved by planting more and more trees as they clean and filter the air.

Policy for industries- Strict policy for industries related to the filter of gases should be introduced in the countries. So, we can minimize the toxins released from factories.

Use of eco-friendly fuel-  We have to adopt the usage of Eco-friendly fuels such as LPG (Liquefied Petroleum Gas), CNG (Compressed Natural Gas), bio-gas, and other eco-friendly fuels. So, we can reduce the amount of harmful toxic gases.

To sum it up, we can say that the air we breathe is getting more and more polluted day by day. The biggest contribution to the increase in air pollution is of fossil fuels which produce nitric and sulphuric oxides. But, humans have taken this problem seriously and are devotedly working to eradicate the problem that they have created.

The Earth and its environment are facing a serious threat by the increasing pollution of the air, water, and soil—the vital life support systems of the Earth.
