You are a reporter for a newspaper. You have interviewed a student who got lost in the jungle during the three-day outdoor activity camp and you have to write a report on it. Use the notes below to write out the report.

• boys scouts – went camping trip
• set up camp
• went jungle trekking
• saw deer – wandered off
• suddenly realized lost
• spent night in the jungle alone – afraid
• next morning – walked – no way out
• heard noises – frightened
• slept on a tree
• second day – found river – walked to small village
• got help from villagers
• returned home

When writing the newspaper report you should remember to include the following :

• use the correct format : headline, etc.
• use all the points given
• use names and quotations
• write in paragraphs

QUESTION 2:

There are a few matters in your community health which could be improved. As a resident of the area, you wish to draw the attention of the authorities by writing a report for the city council.

Use the following notes to write your report.

SAMPLE ANSWER QUESTION 2:

Improvements Needed for a Healthy Life

I live in Taman Murni, a township that used to be quiet and beautiful. However, many things have changed with more buildings being developed here and I wish to draw the attention of the authorities to the lack of cleanliness in our area. The place has become busier, dirtier and more unpleasant to live in, much to the dismay of the residents. People seem to forget the basic principles of living together and are not civic- minded any more. Litter is thrown along the roads and dumpsites are created everywhere. It is very disgusting to see these ugly sights as they bring many problems like flies and rats. There is a bad stench as we pass the dumpsites. People should be fined for throwing rubbish everywhere. The restaurants in our area are also dirty and seem to harbour rats. We can see rats running around in the restaurants while we are eating! There are also cockroaches near the sinks. This is unhygienic and may lead to diseases being transmitted among the people. People should not patronize these restaurants until they clean up and authorities should make frequent checks on them. There should be more sweepers and cleaners in our areas to clean up the roads and drains. Of course we think that the residents too should take charge of the cleanliness of the houses and surrounding areas. More rubbish bins should placed at street corners for easy disposal of rubbish. A co-operative move between the residents and the authorities will work to everyone’s favour. It will help if the authorities planted more trees and flowering plants to make our area look beautiful and cool. Please help us make our area a comfortable and pleasant place to live in. We hope the authorities will consider our suggestions and take action accordingly.
