Enter your date of birth, about essay event.

Shri Ram Chandra Mission is a non-profit educational and spiritual service organization. It has been promoting heart-based living through meditation as a means to universal peace and harmony for over 75 years since its inception in 1945. It is one of 1600 NGOs associated with the United Nations Department of Public Information. The All India Essay Writing Event had been the flagship event of The Shri Ram Chandra Mission (SRCM) for over three decades and was organized in partnership with United Nations Information Centre for India and Bhutan (UNIC) for several years since 2005 reaching out to over 25,000 institutions in India. The event was renamed the HEARTFULNESS ESSAY EVENT in 2019 and was launched globally for the first time in 2020 in collaboration with UNESCO MGIEP (Mahatma Gandhi Institute of Education for Peace and Sustainable Development).

The Event this year is being organized in collaboration with THE COMMONWEALTH. This year marks the thirty-second successive year of the Event.

The Heartfulness Education Trust (HET) has designed a variety of programs for youth including The Heartfulness Way Curriculum for junior school students aimed at developing in them an understanding and acceptance of core human values (as recommended in the report submitted to UNESCO by the International Commission on Education for the Twenty First Century), Brighter Minds for development of cognitive and intuitive faculties, a life skills program called HELP for senior school students and an initiative called Heartful Campus for University students. A program for teachers called INSPIRE has also been running for several years. Details of these programs are available at : www.heartfulness.org/education

An Invitation to the Youth

Youth is a time of great possibilities. It is a period in life filled with opportunities waiting to be realized, provided you are mindful of them and are willing to strive heartfully for your holistic growth. While education helps us to develop our physical and intellectual capabilities to their optimum extent and prepares us to thrive in a competitive world, there is one aspect of our development that does not often receive due attention– the development of our inner Being. Without the synchronous development of body, mind, and heart our evolution as human beings remains incomplete. It is therefore balance, in addition to excellence, that you must strive for - the balance between mind and heart, the outer and the inner, and, between thinking and feeling. Through the Heartfulness Essay Event, we invite you to tap into your inner space, tune in to the soft voice of the heart that never fails to guide and inspire, and express in words your experience related to the theme of this year’s Event. We encourage you thus to begin the practice of referring to the heart more and more.

Children of India are the future of this great nation. They are the crucial building blocks of the nation that we seek to build. It is important that you dream and set up goals for yourselves and then work towards those goals with dedication, integrity and commitment. Always remain positive and never let failures deter you.

quote

..the ignited mind of the youth is the most powerful resource on the earth, above the earth & under the earth. India's real heart & soul is her rural population. My dream like many children is to see a corruption-free India by 2020 & one of the best ways it can be achieved is to use 'love'. It is the greatest tool that all of us have, to teach people to be honest in the way they do things & conduct themselves. We need to start at home & if the children can start that themselves, then it will be a big beginning in itself.

Guide to Writing an Essay

Selecting a Topic

Research

Essay Structure

Drafting

Writing Style

Accuracy

Source References

Conclusion

Revision

About the 2024 International Student Essay Competition “How can nature help us achieve the UN SDGs in my community?”

Nature provides us with everything we need to survive and thrive – clean air and water, food, materials for shelter, medicines and so much more. Many people believe that nature can help us tackle major global challenges such as climate change, food and water security, biodiversity loss and disaster risk reduction, as well as improving human health, societal wellbeing and developing sustainable economies.

We want to hear students’ own views on how they feel that nature can support the achievement of the SDGs in their own communities. Students are invited to approach the topic however they wish. They can choose to focus on one SDG, or multiple SDGs that they feel are a key issue within their communities and explore how nature could help to improve the situation. They are strongly encouraged to include their own personal views, perspectives and experiences to help bring their thoughts and visions alive.

The judges are looking for  originality  and  creativity  in all formats – and the potential to contribute to constructive  national or international debate . Unique and well-argued perspectives score highly.

Essay Writing Competition in English, Hindi and Marathi

31 october 2018 • 10 min read, category - career guide | posted by : language services bureau, highlighting the importance of indian language competence with: essay writing competition.

“Language is the road map of a culture. It tells you where its people come from and where they are going”

It is a well-known fact that language is much more than a means of communication. It helps express our feelings and desires, no doubt! But language also has a fundamental relationship with culture and communities. There are roughly 6,500 languages in the world, although English is poised to become the lingua franca. India is a diverse country and is widely multi-lingual. People across the nation speak in various languages and dialects. However, it is still considered as an English-speaking country, when the bitter truth is that only about 10-15% of its population knows English well.

With the mobile revolution reaching nooks and corners of the Indian sub-continent, people are connected and online as never before. In the next 5 years, 75% of internet users in India will be non-English speakers. According to a KPMG study, a consumer is more likely to buy a product/service when communicated in his/her own language. It is clearly a myth to believe that English will be all-pervasive or Hindi will help in communicating with target customers from all over India. This study clearly states that internet users in India consider local language content more reliable than English language content and that user engagement is enhanced when content is available in one’s own language.

The common man has a strong affinity towards his own tongue and since the majority of India’s population is not well-versed in English, the future for these languages is bright. Therefore it is an asset if one knows how to read, write, and converse well in one’s own mother tongue.

Many studies have found that children should be given a strong foundation in their native language as it leads to the growth of the mind and thought and makes it more creative and logical. Investing in the development of regional languages would preserve our country’s multiculturalism, apart from being able to revive some dying languages.

Businesses today need to communicate with their target customers in local Indian languages and there is an utter paucity of Indian language experts. This is a multi-dimensional problem since changes need to be made right at the educational, policy framing, and investment levels.

We at Language Services Bureau have been in the language business for 4 decades and feel that we have an important role to play in this situation, as we have always recognized the dearth of quality translators and content writers while working on projects to reach the vast non-English speaking population of India. We feel it’s the need of the day to create awareness about the increasing paradox of Indian Languages – where there is high demand of language professionals but very little supply. As part of our 40th year celebrations, we have organized an essay competition in English, Hindi and Marathi, for school kids as well as college and university students. We aim at contributing a little towards resolving this problem by highlighting the importance of Indian Languages.

Winners of the school category will be provided free counselling about Careers in Languages and from the College, University and open category will stand a chance to win our Orientation Course in Translation. Topics for the same are as below:

Categories:

  • School level (8th – 10th) – 250 words
