(Burn The Stage Ep.4)
  • In a Vlive, Jung Kook has stated that he's been studying English very hard; learning and memorizing vocabulary words and how to use them in sentences. He hopes to become fluent in a year's time if he's consistent. He's slowly accomplishing this feat, as he has mentioned that the group had an interview earlier before appearing on SNL. He elaborated by saying that he didn't study much in school, feels that he progresses slower than others and didn't take things very seriously as a kid, he oftentimes regrets it.

  • Jeon Jungkook was born in Busan, South Korea. At just 13 (International age), he received casting offers from 7 entertainment companies, but in the end chose Big Hit Entertainment because of RM, who is now his band mate and leader of BTS. Because he was so young, BTS attended his middle school and high school graduations. Also being the youngest, he is the only Gen Z group member. He is often referred to as 'Golden Maknae' by ARMY, BTS' fan base. The reason for this is because he is good at so many things! 'Maknae' refers to the youngest in a k-pop group. The 'Golden' is because Jungkook is good at pretty almost everything. This includes singing, rapping, dancing, sports, drawing, photography, videography, composing, imitations, acting, bowling, gaming, and more! He even directed their music video 'Life Goes On'. Along with his band mates, they have dominated the charts and broke records left and right. On August 12, 2022, BTS had acquired 26.7 billion views on Youtube, making them the most viewed artist in Youtube history. In 2022, they also set the record for the most 'Group of the Year' wins at the MTS VMAs with their 4th consecutive year. One of their largest though, may be being the first Korean group to be nominated for a Grammy in 2020 or speaking at the United Nations for their UNICEF campaign in 2018. He and his band members have partnered up with artists such as Charlie Puth, Snoop Dogg, Benny Blanco, Halsey, Jason Derulo, Steve Aoki, Charlie XCX, and more. Some personal achievements of Jungkook's were being named the Sexiest International Man in 2020 by People Magazine, his solo 'Euphoria' sold over 4 million copies, making it the highest selling B-Side track by a Korean artist, and another solo song of his, 'My Time' dominated in sales and the World Digital Song Sales chart, and has reached 50M+ Spotify streams. At just 21, Jungkook was the youngest recipient of the distinguished fifth-class Hwagwan Order of Cultural Merit medal, along with his 6 other band mates. - IMDb Mini Biography By: M.S.

Jung Kook Put His Heart (and a Few F-Bombs) Into His Grown-Man Solo Album ‘Golden’

jungkook biography wikipedia

When Jung Kook released his first solo single “Seven” back in July, he went somewhere he’d never gone in his more than decade-long career with South Korean group BTS – he went explicit. The collaboration with rapper Latto builds to a chorus that promises ‘ Night after night, I’ll be fucking you right .’

For Jung Kook , it was a moment of reintroduction. As the youngest member of the record-breaking pop group, a sense of perpetual adolescence has followed him since he was 15 and made his debut on stage. A week after its release, he hopped onto a regular livestream with fans and shut down criticism of the lyrics, saying, “If you think about it, how old am I?”

Jung Kook is now 26, and that livestream was his moment to politely remind fans that he’s grown up, and his new music is going to reflect that. The video has racked up more than eight million views, most of them from people watching in real time. It may sound daunting to have the population of a large city hanging on your every word, but Jung Kook has seen this all before. Over the course of 10 years, BTS set astonishing records. The most streamed group on Spotify. The first South Korean group to top the Billboard charts. They hold over 20 Guinness World Records and their fanbase, known as the ARMY, is its own cultural entity.

Jung Kook Put His Heart Into His GrownMan Solo Album ‘Golden

Jung Kook is the latest member of BTS to head out solo after the group announced a temporary hiatus in 2022 that would allow them time to explore new creative ventures and complete the mandatory military enlistment required of almost all young Korean men. His debut album Golden comes after the release of a handful of pre-release singles, including “Seven” and “3D” with Jack Harlow, and plays on a nickname that’s followed him his entire career—the “golden maknae,” or the youngest member who excels at everything. The record, which is sung entirely in English, is a stimulating mash of genres, covering straight pop, silky R&B, retro ‘70s funk and some good old-fashioned crooning. Despite the title reflecting his status as the band’s youngest brother, it's an album that shows a more grown-up Jung Kook, the kind that sings about sex and partying and being so hooked on someone you can’t see straight.

“If you were able to sense the maturity, then that is good,” says Jung Kook of the album, over a video call from Seoul, via a translator. “I don’t think it was something I did intentionally. I think it has just come out naturally.”

Here, GQ talks to Jung Kook about recording his debut album in English, the track he thinks the ARMY will love the most, and looking for satisfaction over success.

GQ : How did you find recording the album as a solo artist?

Jung Kook: While working on the album by myself, and performing on stage alone, [I noticed] things about myself that I was unaware of – the good points and the areas I’m lacking in. In terms of music, I found myself realizing, “Oh I can do these kinds of things as well, huh?,” or “Ah, this is something I can work on.” I found myself missing the members [of BTS] quite a bit.

I wondered if there were any particular challenges you found in producing a full record in a different language?

Compared to recording a song in Korean, there was definitely [some] exhaustion, yes. But I don’t think fatigue is important [to me]. I have noticed how my pronunciation is getting better, but still, I’m learning a lot from that process, so it’s definitely fun and I want to continue challenging myself.

Was there a song on the album that you struggled to get right, or one that is especially meaningful to you?

The song that I most struggled with and is particularly meaningful to me is "Standing Next to You". The song itself is great, and as soon as I heard the song, I could picture myself on stage performing [it]. The recording process was not easy, so it's particularly memorable, too. It was so tiring that I did feel my soul almost leaving my body, but the process in itself was extremely fun. I think this will also be the one song ARMY are most amazed by.

‘Golden’ is a phrase that’s followed you for years. It’s a term of endearment to describe you being able to do things so well, but you’ve also said in the past that it’s something that can make you feel pressure.

Post Malone’s Savvy Country Reboot

The term “Golden” started with the nickname that Namjoon [RM, leader of BTS] coined. At first, I wasn’t very confident so that term was quite overwhelming for me. But as I grew up and went through so many various changes in terms of personality, thoughts etc., the term “Golden Maknae” became a [source] of pride for me. This album includes the whole journey of my hard work and my passion, starting all the way from my debut days, [from] finding my self-confidence to owning this nickname of “Golden”. On top of that, it also includes all the moments leading up to now. I use this term, “golden moments”. It’s an album that encompasses all these [golden] moments leading up till now.

You’re the youngest member of BTS, but with this album, you get to put yourself forward without that label. Was there a desire to focus on a mature sound?

You make the song guided by your feelings [and] where your heart leads you. By following my heart and my feelings, I think I have been able to mature.

Jung Kook Put His Heart Into His GrownMan Solo Album ‘Golden

You once said in an interview with your BTS bandmate J-Hope that, when it came to your future as an artist, you wanted to make music for characters as a way to span genres. Is Golden about you trying out different personas?

I just wanted to try diverse genres and styles and work on my own sound. As of now, that is still my goal. I want to work on different stories. On the other hand, when the moment comes when I do want to share my story, I do think it’ll be a song with honest lyrics that I want to share [with my fans].

You’ve experienced such monumental success with BTS. What does success look like for you as a solo artist?

I don’t think success is determined by other people’s perspectives. Just experiencing self-satisfaction, being happy, experiencing difficulties, being frustrated—I think in all those moments, “success” is always mixed in with it. For me, instead of chasing success, it’s enough to be satisfied.

Are you satisfied with this album?

I am satisfied. I do have some things I wish I had done, but I did my best. You could think of it like that.

Golden is out now.

Controversies
In 2019, Jungkook got into a minor car accident with a taxi. He was first questioned about the minor collision and prosecuted a few days later. Seoul Yongsan Police Station clarified that Jungkook did not drunk drive, the police said,

In 2020, Jungkook visited the neighborhood of Itaewon in Seoul along with his K-pop idol friends, SEVENTEEN’s Mingyu, NCT’s Jaehyun, and ASTRO’s Cha Eun-woo, whenn Itaewan was seeing a spike in COVID-19 cases. Reportedly, the four friends hung out at a restaurant and two bars in that neighbour of Itaewon where a COVID-19 positive patient visited clubs. Later, the respective agencies of the idols released apology statements and also sharing that all four idols had tested negative for COVID-19.

On 1 October 2021, Fair Trade Commission (FTC) filed a complaint case against Jungkook for allegedly doing 'under-the-table' promotion for his brother's clothing brand, Six6uys. FTC accused him of doing backdoor advertisement for Six6uys as he was often seen wearing the clothes of the brand. On 27 October 2021, FTC revealed that he did not violate the guidelines for labeling and advertising.

In 2023, after he released his single track 'Seven,' the song faced plagiarism chages for having musical scales and other key componests similar to the 1999 song 'Time of Mask' by the South Korean girl group Fin.K.L; however, Jungkook and his agency, Big Hit Music, denied all the allegation by saying the copyright claim regarding the song 'Seven' is not true.

Our first practice room was in the basement, and now there was a restaurant on the ground floor, and the aunt there took very good care of us. She sometimes grilled us meat, and at that time, we didn’t get much pocket money anymore, so we only had one or three cups of ramen a day. It was a time that passed for a while, but I’m really thankful.” [57] Hindustan Times jQuery('#footnote_plugin_tooltip_559783_1_57').tooltip({ tip: '#footnote_plugin_tooltip_text_559783_1_57', tipClass: 'footnote_tooltip', effect: 'fade', predelay: 0, fadeInSpeed: 200, delay: 400, fadeOutSpeed: 200, position: 'top right', relative: true, offset: [10, 10], });
I was so scared when I first came up to Seoul. I missed my parents and I cried. I was the youngest. I had to wait for the others to fall asleep before I could shower. I used the top bunk and I had to be really careful not to make noise. I think that all the difficulties and scoldings that I went through made me who I am today. That’s why I’m grateful to the other members. ” [58] Hindustan Times jQuery('#footnote_plugin_tooltip_559783_1_58').tooltip({ tip: '#footnote_plugin_tooltip_text_559783_1_58', tipClass: 'footnote_tooltip', effect: 'fade', predelay: 0, fadeInSpeed: 200, delay: 400, fadeOutSpeed: 200, position: 'top right', relative: true, offset: [10, 10], });
Jungkook actually couldn’t sing at all when I asked him to. He was so shy and kept on twisting his body for 15 minutes. Our agency even judged that it was impossible for him to debut because he didn’t have talent but now he has become a playful member.” [59] Allkpop jQuery('#footnote_plugin_tooltip_559783_1_59').tooltip({ tip: '#footnote_plugin_tooltip_text_559783_1_59', tipClass: 'footnote_tooltip', effect: 'fade', predelay: 0, fadeInSpeed: 200, delay: 400, fadeOutSpeed: 200, position: 'top right', relative: true, offset: [10, 10], });
  • He considers G-Dragon, a rapper from the South Korean boy band Big Bang, as his role model.

Ah.. it’s been more than 10 years now, my memories are a bit sketchy but I would say we were not that cool. Of course, at the time the other members looked cool to me, but honestly, I still can’t watch the footage from when we first debuted, or even from a few years later, it makes me feel cringe and embarrassed.” [69] Hindustan Times jQuery('#footnote_plugin_tooltip_559783_1_69').tooltip({ tip: '#footnote_plugin_tooltip_text_559783_1_69', tipClass: 'footnote_tooltip', effect: 'fade', predelay: 0, fadeInSpeed: 200, delay: 400, fadeOutSpeed: 200, position: 'top right', relative: true, offset: [10, 10], });

Recent News

BTS , South Korean K-pop (Korean pop music) band that shot to international stardom in the late 2010s. Its seven members were Jin (byname of Kim Seok-Jin; b. December 4, 1992, Anyang, South Korea), Suga (original name Min Yoon-Gi; b. March 9, 1993, Buk-gu), J-Hope (byname of Jung Ho-Seok; b. February 18, 1994, Kwangju), RM (also called Rap Monster; original name Kim Nam-Joon; b. September 12, 1994, Ilsan), Jimin (byname of Park Ji-Min; b. October 13, 1995, Pusan), V (original name Kim Tae-Hyung; b. December 30, 1995, Taegu), and Jungkook (byname of Jeon Jeong-Guk; b. September 1, 1997, Pusan). BTS had a devoted following (fans called themselves ARMY [“Adorable Representative MC for Youth”]) and was popular on social media . The band broke numerous records on YouTube —namely, for the most views of a music video within 24 hours of its release, for such singles as “Boy with Luv” (2019), “Dynamite” (2020), and “Butter” (2021).

BTS was formed by Bang Si-Hyuk, a successful songwriter and music producer who established his own studio, Big Hit Entertainment, in 2005. In 2010 he began to assemble talent for a group he was calling the Bangtan Sonyeondan (“Bulletproof Boy Scouts”), which would later become better known as BTS. The members—the first of whom was RM, an underground rapper in Seoul—were selected for their singing, rapping, and dancing skills. The band’s first releases were three EP (extended play) records in the School series, including  2 Cool 4 Skool  (2013),  O!RUL8,2?  (2013), and  Skool Luv Affair  (2014). BTS’s first full-length album,  Dark & Wild , appeared in 2014. The group wrote its own lyrics, commenting on social issues and concentrating on such themes as self-love, individuality, and empowerment. The band’s popularity grew with each recording, and, after releasing  The Most Beautiful Moment in Life, Part 1  and  Part 2  (both 2015), BTS began its first world tour. With momentum from the tour,  Life, Part 2  rose to number one on six international music charts. The album  Wings  (2016) continued that success, becoming the first of the group’s albums to debut on both the Canadian Hot 100 and the  Billboard  200 charts. BTS later rereleased the songs from  Wings  with four additional singles under the title  You Never Walk Alone  (2017).

At the Billboard Music Awards presentation in 2017, BTS won the Top Social Artist Award, which had been voted on by fans. The band then won the award each year through 2021, beating such performers as  Ariana Grande  and  Justin Bieber . Meanwhile, the group released another EP,  Love Yourself: Her , in 2017. The recording debuted on the  Billboard  200 chart at number seven, becoming the first K-pop album to appear on the chart’s top 10. BTS’s third full-length album debuted in 2018. Titled  Love Yourself: Tear , it reached the top of the  Billboard  200.  Love Yourself: Answer  (2018) included material from both previous  Love Yourself  recordings along with a few new songs.

The group delivered the EP  Map of the Soul: Persona  in 2019. The music video for the lead single, “ Boy with Luv,” drew 74.6 million views on YouTube within 24 hours of its release, breaking records on the platform. BTS followed that success with the full-length album  Map of the Soul: 7  (2020). The recording won wide acclaim and debuted at number one on the  Billboard  200 chart. Later in 2020 the group released the disco-pop single “Dynamite,” its first English-language song. The single debuted at the top of the  Billboard  Hot 100 chart, and the music video amassed an unprecedented 101.1 million views on YouTube in 24 hours. BTS was nominated for a  Grammy Award  for best pop duo or group performance for the song and performed it at the 2021 awards show. The single was included on the album  Be (2020). Meanwhile, BTS also made several Japanese studio albums, including  Wake Up  (2014),  Face Yourself  (2018), and  Map of the Soul: 7—The Journey  (2020). In 2021 BTS released their second English-language single, “Butter,” which debuted on the Billboard Hot 100. Its accompanying video once again beat the band’s previous record, reaching approximately 113 million views on YouTube in one day. BTS performed “Butter” at the 2022  Grammy Awards , where the song was nominated for best pop duo or group performance.

In 2018 BTS released a YouTube documentary series, Burn the Stage , about its 2017 world tour. An extended movie version (2018) later appeared in various countries. Other documentaries of BTS tours included  Bring the Soul: The Movie  (2019) and  Break the Silence: The Movie  (2020). In 2019 BTS became the first South Korean musical group to perform on the American comedy and variety television show  Saturday Night Live . Later that year a BTS-themed game,  BTS World , was released for mobile devices, along with an album of the game’s soundtrack.

Also in 2022 BTS released Proof , an anthology album that included the new single “Yet to Come (The Most Beautiful Moment).” Shortly afterward the band announced a hiatus , suggesting that they planned to pursue solo projects. A couple of months later, their label stated that members of the group were enlisting in South Korea’s military, which by law requires all able-bodied men to enroll by the time they reach age 28 to serve for about two years (a bill passed in 2020 allowed pop stars and other cultural icons to delay conscription until the age of 30). The announcement said members planned to reconvene in 2025 after completing their service.
