How to Write an Essay about Video Games: Presenting Effective Arguments in Papers

hook for video game essay

Gaming on video consoles is becoming more and more common. In actuality, the typical gamer plays for roughly six hours each week. There are many who claim that video games are harmful to one’s health since they promote inactive lifestyles like prolonged sitting and isolation from the outside world. On the other hand, some people say that playing video games is a good way to unwind and relax, and they are not wrong. So, what is the real story of video games? Are they good or bad? The controversy of playing video games presents an opportunity for students to either be proponents or antagonists of the issue through essays. Accordingly, this article discusses how a learner can write an essay about video games.

It would be best to do thorough research before writing an essay about video games

Research is often the most challenging aspect of preparing an essay. While writing your video games essay, you’ll have to employ the information you get from research to define video games, describe different genres, and give relevant examples to support your claims. Students must recognize that the amount of research they conduct totally affects how good their essays turn out. Your video game essay will benefit greatly from your careful attention to detail and thorough investigation. Just keep in mind that you are trying to convince your audience to see things from your point of view. This is why having a great deal of background information is essential. Researching your favorite video game would give you an added advantage. Additionally, to support your claims, you must include relevant examples and research-based data.

You should develop an introduction that captures your reader’s interest

The whole point of the opening paragraph is to capture the interest of the audience. To achieve this, it should pose an intriguing topic or provide a contradiction or paradox. You ought to add a good hook to grab the reader’s attention so they can’t help but keep reading your paper. Given that there are numerous motivations for why individuals engage in video games, the introduction is where you have to specify the reasons. Moreover, it would be best to incorporate your thesis statement in the introduction. A thesis statement is basically the writer’s primary concept, summed up in one or a few sentences. A well-formulated thesis statement expresses the work’s central argument in a way that makes sense in light of the inquiry or issue at hand. It would be the correct response to the question, “What is the primary theme of this essay?” from the instructor. Nonetheless, you should perceive your thesis as an opinion that may be debated at any time, rather than an established fact or objective reality. In other words, now is the time to speak your mind regarding the impact of video games on today’s youth.

You must present your arguments in the body paragraphs

The arguments are what learners utilize to support their thesis. A single contention and one or two examples must each have their own paragraph. It would be best to provide your reasoning for your video game position and be sure to explain why you firmly disagree with the opposing viewpoint. Examples include your own experiences and, where appropriate, references to data from studies, forecasts, and statistics. Students should provide answers to contentious topics like “Do video games promote addiction and violence among players?” The arguments you employ ought to back your main point rather than contradict it.

You may offer vivid illustrations as you write an argumentative essay about video games

Learners should offer evocative examples of the genres and video games under consideration. Instead of stressing about whether the material you discover online or the game’s publishers are legit, dedicate yourself to writing a fun and vibrant paper for the person who reads it. This approach piques the audience’s attention and facilitates their comprehension of the argumentative essay about video games. Additionally, these vivid examples assist you in conveying your ideas in a manner that words can’t. Even if you aren’t convinced that your assignment requires an example, using one might perk up your reader and provide your arguments additional weight.

You should write a conclusion for your essay

The last section is meant to sum up the college essay. You may accomplish this by restating the thesis statement and briefly mentioning the arguments you presented in your body paragraphs. This approach will help the audience understand how you systematically addressed the issue and made conclusions. For instance, suppose you had to respond to the question, “Do games negatively affect us?” A topic like that can’t be satisfactorily answered by psychology, particularly when it involves something as novel as video games. Consequently, it is actually way easier to just pick a side and support your position with some research. In the end, your readers don’t expect the argument to be elaborated upon but rather summarized. No new material should be introduced in the last paragraph.

Identifying the sources you employed would be best

When you are writing an essay about video games, it is essential to cite your sources. That means you got to make a list of every resource you used in your paper. References to diverse books, scientific studies, statistical data, and remarks made by well-known experts are acceptable. It would help to make sure your research is from the past five years.

Proofreading is vital for developing a top-notch paper

Students must make sure that their essays about video games have been edited and proofread prior to submission. So basically, you are going to check your assignment for spelling, punctuation, and grammatical mistakes. Completing an essay that is free of errors increases a learner’s likelihood of academic success. Here are some tips to help you proofread your work:

  • Read the text aloud. This will enable you to detect any mistakes.
  • Take your time proofreading and revising your work. Spend sufficient time on it to ensure you catch any possible oversights.
  • Concentrate on correcting a single mistake at a time. Avoid the hassle of searching for spelling and grammar mistakes at the same time. Prior to checking for punctuation and spelling problems, you may concentrate on grammatical issues.
  • You may also create a list of the most typical errors that students make while writing essays, then review your work for each one.

Using these suggestions will guarantee that your essay is devoid of all types of mistakes that might undermine how persuasive your argument is. Alternatively, you can delegate your “ write my essay ” request to online essay writing services like CustomWritings which may allow you to complete a high-quality paper about video games.

Extra tips for presenting better arguments in essays about video games

Today’s youth often engage in video gaming, and this trend will only spread in the coming years. Composing a paper about video games can help you learn more about the subject while also providing readers with information they can utilize in their lives. Just consider the potential for them to be inspired by and gain new knowledge from your essay about video games. Following this article’s recommendations should take you a step closer to achieving your academic goals.

Persuasive Essay: Video Games

Teenagers today often spend a great deal of time playing video games. These games are fun and engaging and young people often feel like playing games is a great thing to do in their spare time. However, you shouldn’t spend too much time gaming and there are a number of reasons for this: it’s unhealthy, you should spend more time studying, and you need to socialize more.

The primary reason to cut down on gaming time has to be that youths that spend a long time on computers and games consoles are often not getting enough exercise. With high obesity rates, it’s very important for young people to spend as much time being active as possible, especially since studies show that people who are overweight during childhood and adolescence are far more likely to become overweight adults than those of a healthy weight when they’re young. There is just as much, if not more, fun to be had in getting out and about and being active. This doesn’t have to mean going for long runs if that’s not your thing; team sports are both fun and great exercise. Dance or fitness classes are also a good option for those not into sports.

Secondly, getting a good education is that best thing that you can do for your future. If every teenager cut down on their gaming time by 30 minutes per day and used this time to study, the whole of that generation would achieve better results and be more likely to have the career that they want. With education, you get out what you put in, so it’s really up to you to put in the additional effort. If you want to go to a good college, extra study in your own time will be completely vital, but gaming can reduce your concentration span and make this more difficult.

The third main reason that playing video games too often is that it’s no good for your social skills. Some teenagers may argue that because they can now play their games online with friends, they are socializing in their own way. However, you can’t beat face-to-face contact, and if you want to succeed in interviews and build good relationships in later life, you need to develop some proper communication skills. This shouldn’t be a chore, or difficult, because hanging out with friends is far more fun than sitting indoors playing on games all day anyway!

In conclusion, there can be no doubt that spending too much time gaming isn’t good for you. You don’t have to stop all together, but it’s all about moderation. Cut down and allocate your additional free time to doing things that are good for you, and you definitely won’t regret it in later life.

CaliMonk's avatar

Writing an effective essay on video games requires a good understanding of the topic, strong writing skills, and the ability to analyze and present your ideas clearly. Whether you're a passionate gamer exploring your favorite titles or a cultural critic examining the industry's impact, a well-crafted essay can offer valuable insights and engage readers. If you need assistance with essay writing services at Ukwritings , they can help. Ukwritings is an essay writing service that provides professional writing assistance to students on various topics, including video games. Their team of experienced writers can help you craft a compelling and well-researched essay. Here are some tips to help you craft a compelling essay on video games.

Choosing a Focused Topic

The video game industry is vast, covering a wide range of genres, platforms, and themes. Rather than attempting to write about video games in general, narrow your focus to a specific aspect or angle. This will allow you to delve deeper into the topic and provide more meaningful analysis.

For example, you could explore the impact of a particular game or franchise, analyze the representation of certain groups in video games, or examine the evolution of game mechanics over time. A focused topic will help you develop a clear thesis statement and maintain a cohesive structure throughout your essay.

Conducting Thorough Research

Gather information from reliable sources, including books, academic journals, industry reports, and reputable online publications. Look for sources that provide in-depth analysis, historical context, and expert opinions. Avoid relying solely on user reviews or fan sites, as they may lack objectivity or present biased perspectives.

Consult a variety of sources to gain a well-rounded understanding of your topic. Take notes, highlight key points, and organize your research in a way that will help you support your arguments and provide strong evidence.

Developing a Clear Thesis Statement

Your thesis statement should be a concise and focused statement that outlines the main argument or perspective you will explore in your essay. It should be specific, debatable, and supported by evidence from your research. A strong thesis statement will guide the development of your essay and help you maintain focus throughout the writing process. For example, instead of a broad statement like "Video games are influential," you could propose a more specific thesis, such as "The open-world design of the Grand Theft Auto series has significantly influenced the gaming industry's approach to storytelling and player agency." Crafting a clear and compelling thesis is crucial, especially if you're writing the essay for college admissions or scholarship applications, where college essay services can provide valuable guidance to help you stand out.

A strong thesis statement will guide the development of your essay and help you maintain focus throughout the writing process. For example, instead of a broad statement like "Video games are influential," you could propose a more specific thesis, such as "The open-world design of the Grand Theft Auto series has significantly influenced the gaming industry's approach to storytelling and player agency."

Organizing Your Ideas Effectively

Structure your essay in a logical and coherent manner. Begin with an engaging introduction that captures the reader's attention and provides context for your topic. Use body paragraphs to present your main points, supporting each one with relevant examples, facts, and analysis. Finally, conclude your essay with a strong summary that reinforces your thesis and leaves a lasting impression on the reader.

Consider using subheadings to organize your essay into distinct sections, making it easier for readers to follow your line of thought and navigate the content.

Analyzing and Critiquing

An effective essay should go beyond simply describing or summarizing information. Analyze and critique various aspects of your topic, such as game design, narrative elements, societal impact, or cultural representation. Offer your own insights and opinions, but support them with evidence from your research and careful analysis.

Encourage critical thinking by examining different perspectives, identifying strengths and weaknesses, and exploring the broader implications or consequences of the subject you're discussing.

Considering Multiple Perspectives

Video games can be viewed from various angles, including artistic, cultural, technological, and psychological perspectives. Acknowledging and exploring different viewpoints will add depth and complexity to your essay, demonstrating your understanding of the topic's nuances.

For example, when discussing the representation of women in video games, you could examine the issue from a feminist perspective, exploring how certain games perpetuate harmful stereotypes or objectification. However, you could also consider the perspective of game developers, who may face challenges in creating diverse and authentic female characters while appealing to a broad audience.

Using Examples and Evidence

Strengthen your arguments by providing specific examples and evidence from video games themselves. Describe key scenes, gameplay mechanics, or design choices that support your points. You can also use quotes from developers, critics, or industry experts to bolster your analysis.

Concrete examples and evidence make your essay more engaging and help readers better understand the points you're making. They also lend credibility to your arguments and demonstrate your familiarity with the subject matter.

Maintaining Objectivity

While it's important to express your opinions and insights, aim to maintain objectivity and avoid biased or overly subjective language. Present different viewpoints fairly, and acknowledge potential counter-arguments or limitations to your arguments.

By maintaining a balanced perspective, you demonstrate your ability to think critically and consider multiple sides of an issue. This approach also makes your essay more persuasive and credible, as readers are more likely to trust an objective analysis.

Editing and Proofreading

After completing your initial draft, take the time to review and revise your essay. Check for clarity, coherence, and logical flow. Ensure that your arguments are well-supported and that your writing is free from grammatical errors, typos, and inconsistencies.

Consider having someone else read your essay and provide feedback. A fresh pair of eyes can help identify areas that need improvement or clarification.

By following these tips, you can craft an effective and engaging essay on video games that showcases your knowledge, analytical skills, and writing abilities. Remember, the key is to provide insightful analysis, use concrete examples, and present your ideas in a clear and organized manner. With dedication and attention to detail, you can create a compelling essay that contributes to the ongoing discussion around this influential medium.

hook for video game essay

So You Are Writing About Video Games for Your Eng 101 Paper (Part 1)

Using rhetoric, purpose and audience.

David Scheier

David Scheier

BEYOND THE PIXELATED MIRROR

Y ou are a student riding on the wide waves of academia, or maybe you’re floating by, hoping a life raft comes to your rescue. Some of you don’t want to be saved, you’d rather sink to the depths of the metaphorical sea — and it’s a metaphor so it’s not the end of the world. I hope that this essay (along with its 2nd part ) on writing about video games may serve, not as a life raft, but something more of a life jacket. This may not be the thing that helps make or break a paper, or your grade, but it could keep you afloat until you figure things out.

Regardless of your studying, you’ll probably have to do a research paper and for many students, researching a topic that you know and love is a way to go. I know this because that’s a predictable outcome, but I was also a student not too long ago and more so, I’ve been teaching at the college level for almost half a decade in both a four-year university and at a community college. I teach English composition, rhetoric, literature and all that jazz. I’ve seen a few trends emerge upon my student’s laptops bright LED screens with the topics they love and one of those topics I see from time and time is video games.

While this is catered to college-level students, I think anyone writing about video games could find use for these tips and suggestions. Additionally, these tips and suggestions could be used for most academic writing — not just video games. Finally, while the second section (So You Are Writing About Video Games for Your Eng 101 Paper (Part 2) is about what not to write, it’s subjective and not based on any studies or data but personal observations and discussions with peers.

What I present here are a few companion essays to help you, dear student. Maybe you have to do an exploratory, argumentative, research-based paper or some other expository writing. I’ve broken up this first essay based on tips and suggestions for the following themes: discussing purpose, rhetoric and audience and the second part is a list the essays you shouldn’t write and why, with discussion of some topics related to video games that are both controversial, argumentative and much less common.

Table of Contents:

Ethos, Pathos and Logos Telos and Kairos Audience Purpose Check Out Part 2: So You Are Writing About Video Games for Your Eng 101 Paper (Part 2): Avoid These Essays on Video Games

Ethos, Pathos and Logos

Y ou’re probably familiar with ethos, pathos, and logos. These are rhetorical devices. Logos is to appeal to one’s logic by using data, studies, graphs, facts, and things that can be tested with similar results. Pathos is an appeal to emotion. Any argument that’s trying to persuade you to do something based on anger, sadness and the like are common examples. A lot of anecdotal evidence usually sways to the place of pathos. An appeal to emotion can also be the appeal to drives like sexual attraction and food. For instance, something using sex appeal would also be pathos. Finally, there’s ethos which is an appeal towards one’s values, beliefs, ethics, ideology, and so on. A lot of these intermix too. For instance, often one’s values will also shape the emotional argument.

It’s common for people to mix these up but there are a few tricks to remember them. One easy way I remember these is the following:

Logos = Logic Ethos = Ethics Pathos = Pathetic (which is emotion)

I associate the root word with the more modern word. I’m sure there are other ways, but this is what’s helped me.

But wait, there’s more!

Telos and Kairos

Two parts of rhetorical devices that are often not discussed are Telos and Kairos. Telos is your purpose. Your paper’s claim will explicitly or implicitly state what your reader should be gaining from the piece. Kairos is about setting and time, it’s the right moment to discuss something. The literal translation is the opportune moment . While Kairos will be sorta naturally just be part of most strong arguments, you’ll find very obvious examples in court cases where a lawyer may have one shot to discuss evidence or convince a judge or jury; additionally you’ll find this in sports like a sportswriter or broadcaster who will write a story during the actual sporting event, not ten years later. There are retrospective pieces and historical analyses, but those will have a different Kairos than works that are very much about that moment. It may be helpful to think of Kairos as both the relevancy of a topic and the setting. Ask yourself, is it the right place and time to discuss this? That’s Kairos. This is also why it’s important to use current, relevant data for research.

Why is this important?

Knowing Telos and Kairos may help with creating a draft because once you have a purpose, then you can think about your audience and how to appeal to them. These two aspects of rhetoric should come naturally, but you can certainly formulate an essay to meet these. After that, decide on the rhetorical device you’d like to use by understanding your audience. Are you writing to those who straight up disagree with you? If so what are their beliefs and values (ethos), you might also use nostalgia, something to tear them up (pathos). Luckily video games are plastic arts, meaning they are mass-produced. Games will be around for a long time, but the issues and cultural phenomena around games will change, so if you are going to write about video games and do something more than reviews and critiques, you need to understand Kairos and Telos, or what’s the point?

In the companion essay to this, I discuss essays on video games you should avoid and one of those is not-to-dos is about the causation of violence from video games. If you choose this topic, you’ll find it’s been done a lot so why write about it now? Unless there’s a new study, or a new issue in politics, or maybe it’s causing game ratings to change which will cause game sales to change or accessibility to change, there’s no real strong current Kairos for this topic and the reader may question the Telos and say, “What’s the point of this?” This is subjective of course, I’m sure there are relevant reasons to continue this familiar debate. However, if you are writing to a very specific group of people, like an audience that already agrees with you and you’d like to show them evidence that supports one side over the other, that is Telos and Kairos, but be aware of your own confirmation bias and the role you are presenting by contribution to confirmation bias.

With that stated, before you begin to write, think about who your audience is and why they are your audience. If you are a college student you might think, oh my audience is my instructor, done –but no — you are not done.

Avoid writing an academic paper with the mindset that the audience is your instructor. A paper to that one person is too narrow. You don’t know your instructor personally, probably, and to write to one specific person means you need to understand their side of an issue. Luckily we live in a digital renaissance of information and voiced opinions, so you can go out there pick a counter argument or imagine a potential audience for your essay. I’d recommend looking at how online publications or even people on YouTube cater to an audience. Purpose and audience go hand-in-hand. Usually if you have a good sense of a purpose or audience, the other will follow.

Are you writing to a group of people that already agree with you, if so, why? What new information are you providing? Are you trying to persuade a group of people to consider your stance or to take action for or against something?

As an example, two YouTubers discuss video games and I think whether you’d agree with their views or not, they know their audiences and they provide a clear purpose for each of their respective videos.

The first example is the channel, Feminist Frequency . This channel that was started and led by Anita Sarkeesian is very large with several hosts and people behind the scenes, but it started with humble roots with just a single host and creator. Also, this channel discusses much more than video games, but games make up a lot of their content. The audience is clear, there’s huge context clues in the title of the channel: feminist . But it’s more than that, Feminist Frequency discusses the representation of women, race and the LGTBQ+ community in pop culture, and in that, there’s a lot of video games. You may not think that focusing on pop culture is relevant to an audience as important, but it is.

We often identify our so-called in-groups and out-groups by our aesthetic and our awareness, interaction, and alliance to pop culture create that relevancy. They have videos on movies and books like Star Wars and The Hunger Games , hip hop, advertisements and theme-driven analysis of video games like Tropes vs Women which examines the portrayal of non-male characters in games and the social constructs that surround them.

Another more implicit direction related to the audience is that the hosts are typically in their 20s and 30s, millennials. This probably is not something that they are consciously building on, it’s most likely circumstance, but one certainly can cater to an age group or two by creating a voice or image that appeals to the majority of that group. Some of these factors are created to material towards an audience while other aspects are just factors that allow access but are probably as I mentioned, unintentional.

Thus, for Feminist Frequency’s audience, we have people who play video games, people who identify as feminists or at least do not uphold the patriarchal influences that fester in our popular media as potential audiences, and Feminist Frequency is very aware of that. Here is a list of potential audiences for Feminist Frequency, both intentional and maybe even unintentional: millennials, gen-z and probably the younger Gen-Xers: while most of this audience is due to the type of content, the fact that millennials are the second largest population along side baby boomers, and all three of these age groups are likely to be in touch with the current pop culture. Then there’s the age, someone in their 20s and 30s could be seen as a role model for younger audiences while people the same age may relate more to the hosts if they are peers. All the inside jokes and cultural phenomena will be more digested by people in that same (or near that) generation. There are also people involved in geek culture, non gender conforming, the LGBTQ+ community, instructors and students because much of the analyses and critiques are either literary analyses or a commentary on sociology.

Another YouTuber who very much knows his audience is the persona and channel, the Angry Video Game Nerd by James Rolfe. Rolfe is also behind Cinemassacre . Cinemassacre is has several people behind it at this point. Both of these media-driven outlets tend to target a particular audience and you can see this with Youtubers who’ve been inspired by Rolf like the Happy Console Gamer and those related elements are retro games, films and nostalgia. One of the targeted audiences is those who want to rehash old games, especially games that are not so good.

One of the things Video Game Nerd does is to demystify nostalgia for games, like replaying a game that is mechanically, narratively and aesthetically bad, but that may have held some good feels from the past, and therefore the anger that comes from such a frustrating experience by playing a game that seems to be broken or boring –but that’s an interpretation.

Regardless of the theme, any viewer who remembers those games (whether it was good or bad) is a candidate to be an audience of the Angry Video Game Nerd. It’s very uncommon to see a review of a more modern game.

I’ve found myself to be nostalgic for games I’ve never played but I’d seen in magazines or recall from past television ads. The nostalgic audience is something that’s very prominent right now. THanks to the social media, Amazon and ebay, nostalgia based videos and blogs it’s very eassy to channel back those past times.

Another audience might simply be those who are curious about past games and they too might fit into the retro game scene as an audience. Another more implied target audience is once again the age of the host(s) and the games that they choose to discuss. Much of the games are from the late 80s, 90s and early 2000s –which is the time frame Rolfe would have been a kid and teen. Much of the audience is probably going to be people who were also kids/teens in those overlapping decades and that will include younger Gen-Xers, Millennials and some of the older Gen-Z population. To be fair though, these three generational demographics make up the majority of Youtube.

Much like Feminist Frequency, this probably isn’t too intentional, though I’m sure since Rolfe has been doing Youtube for a long time, he probably knows this from data that Youtube produces for him and meeting fans in real life. There’s also a lot of influence from shows like Mystery Science Theater. People who like this formula might also be considered an audience.

There’s also the humor aspect which will cater to audiences not too familiar with the games per se, but they are probably still gamers and that’s the key audience here that all of these connect to, the rest falls into the type of gamer and focus of the channel. There’s also the signifier of being a nerd which goes back to geek culture and in this case, also has satire and all the other audiences you might think of.

Youtube is nice because you can visit the comments section and get a good sense of the audience — both for the content creator but also for the content itself. You can certainly apply more audiences to a particular creator, there’s no one audience here. But as you can see the audience is not everybody. My 54-year-old mother who can count the number of times she’s played a video game on one hand, who doesn’t have the same nostalgic memories tied to video games and does not appreciate rant-style reviews like me, is probably not the targeted audience. Ofthen when I ask a student who their audience is and they respond with, “Everyone, duh.” The purpose of the essay is usually very weak. This brings me to my final point.

After you’ve developed an audience, I’d suggest thinking about your purpose. Can you do this the other way around? You can, but identifying your audience first will narrow down your topics and what sort of evidence you’ll need. Is your purpose to inform, persuade, discuss, or explore and question why?

Say you are doing an argumentative essay, you might think of a specific reason. In video games, maybe you want to discuss the benefits of playing puzzle-based games. Has your audience never played a puzzle game? Maybe they only play first-person shooters and you want to persuade them to branch out, but still, why? I don’t answer anything here, but what I’m doing is generating questions to help develop a tentative thesis, potential topics and what to research –if necessary. To add to this, consider pathos, logos, and ethos. What does your audience believe and value? What makes them upset or sad? You may also think of the rhetoric of your opposing viewpoint. I’d encourage that last suggesting very much.

Depending on your age, geographic location and personal interest, you may recall that temporarily in the US, Toys “R” Us closed down very recently – I guess they are back now though . For a few people, it was just another large commercial enterprise that fell victim to online stores, but to a lot of people who had strong associations and memories of Toys “R” Us, it was sad if not an angering affair. People petitioned and complained and the articles catered to that audience with headlines like, “ Toys R’ Us Bids America a Sad Farewell ”. An article like this knows their audience and they don’t have to do too much to strike at that audience’s pathos. If you grew up with Toys “R” Us and already felt sad about its closure, then the title alone might sting since there is already a feeling there.

Now that you have your purpose and audience you may want to look at my list of game-related articles you might want to avoid and some alternatives.

How To Write an Essay About Video Games

Introduction to the world of video games.

Writing an essay about video games requires an appreciation of the medium as both an entertainment form and a cultural phenomenon. Begin by introducing the broad world of video games, covering their evolution from simple pixelated adventures to complex, narrative-driven experiences. Highlight the diversity in genres, from action and adventure to strategy and simulation, and acknowledge the vast demographic that video games appeal to. This introduction should provide a general background that sets the stage for a deeper exploration of specific aspects of video gaming, such as their impact on culture, psychological effects, or the gaming industry’s evolution.

Analyzing Specific Aspects of Video Gaming

The body of your essay should delve into the particular aspect of video gaming that you wish to explore. If you're focusing on the cultural impact, discuss how video games have influenced and been influenced by popular culture. For a more psychological approach, explore how gaming affects cognitive skills, behavior, and social interactions. If your angle is industry-focused, consider discussing the evolution of game design, breakthrough technologies in gaming, or economic aspects like the esports industry. Use specific examples and case studies to support your analysis, demonstrating a deep understanding of the chosen focus area.

Debating Controversies and Ethical Considerations

An essential part of writing about video games is addressing the controversies and ethical considerations surrounding them. This may include the debate over video game violence and its impact on players, the portrayal of gender and minorities in games, or issues related to gaming addiction and mental health. Present various perspectives on these debates, offering a balanced view that considers both the concerns raised by critics and the arguments put forth by proponents of video gaming. This section should engage critically with these topics, showing an awareness of the ongoing discussions in the world of video gaming.

Concluding with a Personal or Predictive Touch

Conclude your essay by summarizing your main points and offering either a personal reflection or a prediction about the future of video games. If you choose to reflect personally, share how your understanding of the topic has evolved or why it holds significance for you. Alternatively, offer predictions about how video games might continue to evolve and impact society. This could include advancements in technology, shifts in societal perception, or potential new areas for growth in the industry. A strong conclusion will not only tie together your essay but also leave the reader with a lasting impression of the depth and complexity of video gaming as a subject.

How To Write an Essay on Video Games in The Best Way?

How To Write an Essay on Video Games in The Best Way?

It is often the case that students have a lot of different hobbies to spend time on during their college or high school period. It is something that circles their youth and represents an inevitable part of it. Through that stage, people usually like to explore more and learn as much as possible new things. One that has particularly been interesting to students in the last decade, especially, is playing video games. Since they started to appear in the world of hundreds of possibilities, the fun, joy, and entertainment they bring to their users have been easily detected. Today, we can witness many video games that are popular and adaptable to multiple platforms like PCs, laptops, mobile phones, Xbox, or Sony PlayStation. With that in mind, it is a call that can’t be neglected for the students who like spending thrilling moments on such activities. As writing essays are commonly part of students’ lives, questions about how to combine it with playing video games frequently come to mind. If you have the same issues, we are here to provide you with the best ways on how you should write essays about this topic.

State Definition of Video Games

If you are planning to write essays on video games, one of the first things you should do is to state a definition of it. According to the Globenewswire , this activity represents one of the most used ways for students to relax and have some fun. As this website offers plenty of useful information about multimedia content, it is often being visited by them. And, if we know that video games belong to multimedia, perhaps you should be writing about that theme first. It would be beneficial if you start researching data about multimedia in general and find out some additional information that can help you in writing your essay. The more you know, the better the outcome will be. So, do your own exploration and don’t hesitate to visit websites that offer such info. Multimedia can sometimes be misunderstood by the students, especially by the ones that are not specifically interested in this field. However, that doesn’t stop them from playing video games, right? After all, what can persuade them not to play some PES, FIFA, or Counter-Strike with their friends?

Collect The Data About Genres of The Games

As the use of technology and its features increases by each day, it usually implies bigger amounts of video games on the market. As every year often comes up with some new game or exciting update of the ones that already exist, something that your essay should cover are the genres of it. Every individual has their own preferences. Some people like to play adventure-based games while others like sports, for example. It is all-natural. But if you want your essay to be top-notch, you must get knowledge about genres of video games. It wouldn’t be necessary to write about every single one of them though. In the sea of genres like RPG (role-playing games), first-person shooter, horror adventures, survivals, and many others, you can select a few of the most popular ones and focus on them. Write about them in general. What is their purpose? What do they bring to the players? How have they been founded? Make sure to provide brief answers to those questions.

Don’t Forget to Mention Games’ History

It is well-known that in the modern world students like to hire professional writers online that will do the job for them. Pre-written essays for sale are becoming more and more wanted. But do you wonder how those writers are able to offer their services with such confidence? Despite their probable education level or experience, they always make sure to dig out all information available about the topic they will write about. If we take video games, for example, something they definitely wouldn’t skip to search is their history. So, you should do exactly the same. Make sure to reach the deepest places on the Internet and sites that are displayed even on the 5th or 6th page in the Google search bar. If the website is not well advertised or shown on the 1st page, it doesn’t mean that it doesn’t contain useful data. You can always find valuable info only if you research it in-depth. Don’t forget to mention different eras of video games and how they have developed throughout history. From the beginning of the 2000s and Console Wars, across the Network Games Era in the 2010s, all the way to currently present ESports and VR games in the 2020s.

Use Colorful Examples

Something that is constantly present in today’s world is a sense of fear and doubt in the credibility of things online. As you know, writing services are legal , the same as many well-rated websites on the Internet. So, instead of having doubts about games’ reliability or their publishers, focus on including some colorful examples in your essay. It will make your work much easier to understand and boost its authentication. Providing information through examples is never the wrong way to express your thoughts. Make sure to illustrate interesting parts from the games that need such a presentation. If they don’t need it, it will surely increase the readers’ mood and make them able to see the actual gameplay. What more can they ask for?

Playing video games is an activity that will be present for many future generations. Writing essays about them will not only increase your knowledge about this topic but also provide others with useful data. Just think about how your work can inspire them and allow them to learn something new. Cool feeling, isn’t it?

Video games are interactive electronic entertainment forms that involve player participation through the use of digital interfaces, such as gaming consoles, computers, or mobile devices. They encompass a wide range of virtual experiences that combine elements of storytelling, competition, and problem-solving. Video games often feature dynamic visuals, immersive audio, and engaging gameplay mechanics, allowing players to control and navigate virtual environments, characters, or objects.

The origin of video games can be traced back to the mid-20th century when scientists and engineers began exploring the possibilities of interactive electronic entertainment. One of the earliest examples is "Tennis for Two," created by physicist William Higinbotham in 1958, which simulated a game of tennis on an oscilloscope. However, it was in the 1970s and 1980s that video games gained significant popularity and commercial success. The release of the arcade game "Pong" in 1972 by Atari marked a turning point in the history of video games. It sparked the arcade gaming phenomenon and laid the foundation for the industry's growth. The subsequent release of home consoles like the Atari 2600 and the introduction of personal computers further expanded the accessibility and reach of video games. The 1980s and 1990s witnessed the emergence of iconic video game franchises such as Super Mario Bros., The Legend of Zelda, and Sonic the Hedgehog. Rapid advancements in technology led to improved graphics, sound, and gameplay mechanics. The introduction of CDs and CD-ROMs in the 1990s allowed for more complex and immersive gaming experiences. In recent years, video games have become an integral part of mainstream culture and a booming industry, surpassing the film and music industries in terms of revenue.

Shigeru Miyamoto: Known as the "Father of Modern Video Games," Miyamoto is the creator of iconic franchises such as Super Mario, The Legend of Zelda, and Donkey Kong. Gabe Newell: As the co-founder of Valve Corporation and creator of the Steam platform, Newell has played a significant role in the digital distribution of games. Steam revolutionized the way games are purchased, downloaded, and played, greatly influencing the PC gaming market. Markus Persson (Notch): Persson is the creator of Minecraft, one of the best-selling video games of all time. Minecraft's sandbox-style gameplay and open-ended world have captured the imagination of millions of players worldwide.

Some people view video games as a form of entertainment that offers immersive experiences, interactive storytelling, and social interaction. They appreciate the creativity, artistry, and technological advancements within the industry. Supporters argue that video games can enhance cognitive skills, problem-solving abilities, and even have therapeutic benefits. On the other hand, there are concerns raised by critics regarding the potential negative effects of video games. Some individuals argue that excessive gaming can lead to addiction, social isolation, and a sedentary lifestyle. Others raise concerns about the violent content in certain games and its potential impact on aggression or desensitization. Public opinion is often influenced by media coverage, personal experiences, and cultural biases.
