What are writing scholarships?

Writing scholarships are financial awards given to students based primarily on written work, though other factors are usually taken into consideration as well. Most writing scholarships involve a prompt or series of prompts to which applicants must respond. Some writing scholarships — especially those that award large amounts of money — require applicants to submit past writing samples, or even a full portfolio.

The good news is that, with so many writing scholarships to choose from, you don’t have to apply for any that are “out of your league.” Indeed, though most students have heard of writing scholarships, you may not realize just how many different varieties there are! Here are five of the most common types of writing scholarships, all of which you can find in this directory.

1. Personal essay scholarships

Personal essay scholarships involve writing on a topic related to your own experience. You’ll often see personal essay prompts like, “How have your experiences influenced your choice of major?” and “What are your career aspirations and how do you plan to achieve them?” Other prompts may ask you to write about a role model, a life-changing event, an aspect of your identity, etc. Suggested length is usually about 500-1,000 words, but varies depending on the level of detail requested and how many essay questions are provided.

Just about every scholarship these days has a personal essay component of some kind. This is because personal essay responses both demonstrate writing skills and give the judges a clear sense of each applicant’s goals. No one wants to throw away money on an aimless student — so if you’re applying for a personal essay scholarship, make sure to convey both your writing abilities and your ambitions in your work!

2. Critical essay scholarships

Critical essay scholarships are more in line with what students might consider  “academic” essays. The prompts typically ask applicants to analyze works of literature. However, unlike open-ended English class essays, most critical essay scholarships provide a very specific prompt (e.g. “Examine The Great Gatsby in the context of its World War II-era revival”).

Critical essay scholarships can also involve non-literary subject matter. Some may ask applicants to evaluate a historical event or figure; others may ask them to defend their stance on a political or legal issue. Though the line between critical and personal essays can sometimes blur, for the purposes of this directory, we define critical essays as those that use evidence from an external source to prove a point.

3. Short fiction scholarships

Short fiction scholarships include scholarships for short stories, one-act plays, poetry, and any other form of fiction that isn’t a novel or full-length script. Short fiction scholarships tend to be easier to find than long-form fiction scholarships, since most judging panels don’t have time to read more than a few thousand words per entry. Therefore, if you write fiction and you’re hoping to nab yourself a scholarship, this category is the way to go! (That said, if you’re a hardline novelist, some places will accept a sample chapter or two as short fiction entries.)

4. Journalism scholarships

Journalism scholarships are for students interested in pursuing a career in news, magazine, and/or online journalism. These scholarship applications almost always ask for writing samples to show the candidate’s interest. Depending on the organization, they may prefer topical news reports, informative articles, thinkpieces, or a mix. Some journalism scholarships provide a prompt and ask applicants to write a new article, but the focus is usually on samples. Speaking of which…

5. Portfolio scholarships 

Portfolio scholarships are the most rigorous kind of writing scholarship, requiring a substantial body of work from each applicant — usually 5-10 pieces of writing, if not more. The upside is that awards for portfolio scholarships tend to be pretty sizable, and may even cover your entire tuition!

If you decide to apply to a portfolio scholarship, make sure you have several strong pieces of work in your oeuvre, and consider writing a few new pieces as well. What you shouldn’t do is rush through a dozen new pieces to throw together as a portfolio. If you don’t have samples at the ready from previous assignments or projects, you’ll be better off applying to a less intensive writing scholarship.

Why apply to writing scholarships?

Applying to writing scholarships is a huge undertaking, especially if you’re pursuing multiple scholarships at once. It can sometimes feel like the effort isn’t worth it, or that you have little chance of actually winning any awards. But in truth, submitting to writing scholarships is one of the best investments you can make in your education, your creative writing skills, and your professional life.

Scholarships for larger amounts do attract more applicants, but that doesn’t mean they’re impossible to land — only that you have to work a little harder to stand out. And you can definitely sway the odds in your favor by applying to lots of small scholarships ($500 or less) for which you’ll have fewer competitors. Remember that every little bit helps! For example, if you plan on taking out student loans, even a $500 scholarship could save you much more in interest down the line.

Another compelling reason to apply to writing scholarships is that oftentimes, you’ve already done the work, or the work required is minimal. For scholarships that require writing samples, you’ll simply submit what you’ve already written in the past — and even for scholarships with specific prompts, you rarely have to write more than a couple of pages. If you were seriously committed, you could apply to a scholarship every day, spending a single concentrated evening on each application.

Jumping off that thought, as English majors love to say: the more writing scholarships you apply for, the better a writer you’ll become. Writing tons of scholarship essays will make you a much more creative and efficient writer. Not only will this help with your personal writing projects, but it will also be invaluable to your education and even your career! Writing is a crucial skill for every major — you’ll always have to write papers and emails to professors, after all — and even if you don’t plan to pursue a writing-based job, you'll still need writing skills to polish your résumé.

Finally, remember that there’s a writing scholarship out there for everyone, no matter what your interests or intended field. This directory includes plenty of creative writing scholarships, yes; but there are also personal essay scholarships for future doctors, lawyers, salespeople, and so much more. Scholarships for high school students

Scholarships for high school and undergraduate students

• Universities Space Research Association Distinguished Undergraduate Awards :  The USRA offers up to four scholarships per year to full-time undergraduate students who are working toward a Science or Engineering degree with an emphasis on space research, space science education, or aeronautics-related sciences, including Life Sciences and Science Education. Applicants must be attending a four-year accredited college or university and be within two years of earning their BS or BA in the field.  Awards:  $5,000;  Deadline:  August 7
• Future Educator Scholarship : Aspiring teachers should apply for this award sponsored by Mrs. Prindables Gourmet Caramel Apples. Current and incoming college students majoring in Education at US institutions may apply for this award to be used for tuition or other educational expenses. Applicants just have to fill out a short form and tell the committee why they want to be an educator. Award: $1,000; Deadline: August 18
• Platt Family Essay Contest : Sponsored by The Lincoln Forum, this scholarship is open to full-time undergraduate students from any country attending American colleges and universities; high school students are not eligible. An essay between 1,500–5,000 words on why the 1864 Lincoln-McClellan presidential race was the most crucial in American history is required. Prizes are awarded for first, second, and third place. Awards: Up to $1,000; Deadline: August 31

• SBB Research Group STEM Scholarship : With 12 scholarships awarded throughout the year, this opportunity is for full-time students who are pursuing STEM fields. Applicants must have a minimum 3.5 GPA and write a short essay about their most significant STEM experiences. This scholarship is open to students worldwide and there are no age restrictions. If chosen, you must accept the award by email within one week of being notified.  Award:  $2,500;  Deadline:  None; applications accepted on a rolling basis
• Chuan Ai Lu Engstrom Memorial Scholarship : Sponsored by PCB Solutions in honor of a former employee who passed away from uterine cancer, this award is open to any full-time student attending a college or university in the US with a minimum 2.5 GPA. There are no age restrictions for this biannual scholarship. Applicants must submit an essay on their vision of electronic design, engineering, and manufacturing in the global economy.  Award:  $1,000;  Deadline:  August 1 (and December 1)
• MarvelOptics National Scholarship Contest :  Current full-time two- or four-year students at accredited colleges and universities are welcome to apply for this biannual scholarship; there are no age or major requirements. Students must write a 300-word essay or film a one-minute video response to the following prompt:  Helen Keller said, “The only thing worse than being blind is having sight but no vision.” What does that mean to you?  Writers may post their responses on a personal blog, and those choosing to make a video may post it to Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, or YouTube.  Award:  $1,500;  Deadline:  August 15 (and January 5)
• Carlile Law Firm Scholarship : This scholarship is awarded to at least one student each fall, though multiple awards may become available based on the number and quality of applicants. Undergraduate and law school students (including incoming first-years) focusing on Pre-law or related fields at accredited colleges or universities in the US are all eligible to apply. Applicants must have US citizenship or authorization to work in the United States and a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 at the undergraduate level. A typed, single-spaced, 12-point-font essay of 500–1,000 words on a topic related to the practice of law is required. Award: $1,000; Deadline: August 15
• Scholarships 4 Moms : Moms deserve educational support too! This award is for US citizens ages 18 and older who are mothers or expectant mothers. Applicants must be enrolled or soon to be enrolled at a college or university in the United States to enter this sweepstakes drawing.  Award:  $10,000;  Deadline:  August 15
• The Turco Munoz Domestic Violence Survivor Scholarship : Available for undergraduate, graduate, and law school students who’ve been advocates for survivors of domestic violence, this renewable scholarship honors academic performance, employment, volunteer experience, financial need, and plans after graduation. Applicants must have a genuine intention to serve survivors of domestic violence after graduation.  Award:  $1,000;  Deadline: August 19
• Bumblebee Linens Scholarship : This essay-based scholarship is open to current undergraduate and graduate students who are 18 years or older. Applicants must be legal residents of the United States or hold a valid student visa. There are no GPA requirements or application forms; you just need to submit a 1,000-word essay on a meaningful event that changed your life. Award: $500; Deadline: August 22
• Boomer Benefits Scholarship : This scholarship is offered to adult students who’ve returned to school to complete their degrees. Applicants must be US citizens or permanent residents ages 50 or older who are currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program, including community college, with a GPA of 3.0 or higher. A letter describing career goals and community service involvement is also required, and two recipients will be chosen.  Awards:  $2,500;  Deadline: August 27
• Achieve Today Scholarship : This scholarship is open to current college students who are at least 18 years old. Applicants must submit a video or audio recording of three to five minutes or write an essay of at least 800 words on one of four principles of personal development.  Award:  $1,000;  Deadline: August 31 (and December 31)
• Brigadier General Albin F. Irzyk Veteran Scholarship : If you’re a college student as well as a veteran, this scholarship is for you. Applicants may be pursuing any major or area of study but must be US citizens who are matriculating to a university accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB International).  Award:  $2,000;  Deadline: August 31
• Hometown Pride Scholarship : Incoming first-years, undergraduates, and graduate students who are passionate about their town or state should apply for this scholarship. Applicants may be pursuing any major but must be US citizens currently attending an accredited college or university within the United States and have a 3.0 minimum GPA. A 750–1,000-word essay on why you are proud to be from your hometown or state and what makes it special to you is required. Award: $1,000; Deadline: August 31
• Danny Russell Law Firm Scholarship : Students pursuing undergraduate degrees in Pre-law Studies or entering law school this fall should apply for this award for tuition or other related expenses. Applicants must be accepted into a program at any US school and have a GPA of 3.0 or higher. A one-to-three-page essay on a topic of your choice related to an area of law that interests you is required. Award: $500; Deadline: August 31
• Griffin Law Office Scholarship : Here is a similar scholarship opportunity sponsored by a criminal defense attorney out of San Diego. Applicants must be pursuing undergraduate degrees in Pre-law Studies or entering law school this fall, with the same GPA and essay requirements. Award: $500; Deadline: August 31
• Whitmarsh Family Law Scholarship : Here’s one more opportunity for Pre-law undergraduates and first-year Law students. Applicants must be US citizens or authorized to work in the US, accepted and attending school this fall, and have at least a 3.0 GPA. A 250–500-word essay on why you are drawn to the study and practice of law is required, among other application materials. Award: $1,500; Deadline: August 31
• Clubs of America Scholarship : This scholarship is open to current college students pursuing any academic major with a minimum 3.0 GPA. Applicants must submit an essay of 600 words or fewer or a YouTube video no longer than five minutes on their career aspirations and how their current studies will help them achieve success.  Award:  $1,000;  Deadline: August 31
• 1st Financial Bank Financial Goals Scholarship :  This is a monthly scholarship open to US residents who are 18 or older and planning to enroll or are currently enrolled in a college degree program. This is a random drawing, but it does require you to submit a short essay of 500 words or fewer.  Award:  $2,000;  Deadline:  August 31 (last day of every month)

Scholarships for graduate students

• TYLENOL ® Future Cares Scholarship : This opportunity is open to current Medical, Nursing, and Pharmacy graduate students with at least one year of school left. Applicants must be residents of the United States, Puerto Rico, or the District of Columbia and attending a graduate program in the US, PR, or DC. Recipients are chosen based on college GPA, academic records in graduate school, community involvement/volunteer service, and essay content, with a total of 35 scholarships available.  Awards: Up to $10,000; Deadline: August 1
• AKA-EAF Graduate Scholarships : Two scholarships sponsored by the Education Advancement Foundation are available for full-time graduate students at accredited degree-granting institutions who demonstrate community service and involvement. The merit award requires applicants to have a minimum 3.0 GPA, while the financial need award requires a minimum of 2.5. Documentation of a project, research, or other scholarly pursuit is required.  Awards:  Amounts not disclosed;  Deadline:  August 15

• ADHDAdvisor’s Mental Health Advocate Scholarship : This scholarship is open to high school seniors as well as current undergraduate and graduate students who are committed to helping others with emotional and mental health support. To apply, just explain how you have assisted others with their mental health and your plans to use your education and future career to continue helping those around you (no word count). Award: $1,000; Deadline: August 1
• Michael Moody Fitness Scholarship : High school seniors, undergraduates, and graduate students pursuing careers in Athletic Training, Psychology, Biology, Kinesiology, Nursing, General Medicine, Dentistry, Behavioral Sciences, Personal Training, Physical Education Teaching & Coaching, Health & Physical Fitness, Exercise Science, Sports & Recreation Management, Health Sciences, Physical Therapist, or another health-related field are eligible for this award. Applicants must be legal residents of the US or Puerto Rico and demonstrate ambition and academic achievement.  Award:  $1,500;  Deadline:  August 1
• Patsy Takemoto Mink Education Support Awards :  This opportunity for low-income families offers awards to women 17 years and older who are mothers with minor children. Applicants must be pursuing their first degree (including vocational, associate, bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral) at an accredited nonprofit higher education institution in the US. Five scholarships will be awarded.  Awards:  Up to $5,000;  Deadline:  August 1
• Race to Inspire Scholarship : If you’re a runner, you could win this award by submitting a 1,000­–2,000-word essay on what inspires you to run, the challenges you’ve faced, and what you’ve learned through your running experience. Applicants must show proof of enrollment at an accredited US college or university for the fall semester. (Try watching some track & field Olympic events to get even more inspired!) Award:  $500;  Deadline:  August 15
• Rodeo Ticket Student Scholarship :  This scholarship is open to rodeo enthusiasts of all backgrounds, whether you grew up going to rodeos or just attended your first one. An essay explaining what inspired you to attend and what you learned through the experience is required. Applicants must be able to verify their enrollment at an accredited college or university for the fall semester to receive the check.  Award:  $500;  Deadline:  August 15
• Innovation in Education Scholarship : This monthly scholarship is open to high school and college students who write an essay on an innovative project they’ve designed that makes a difference in the lives of others. Applicants must have a minimum 3.0 GPA and be a US or Canadian citizen.  Award:  $500;  Deadline:  August 20 (same date every month)
• Lawnpreneur Scholarship : Sponsored by LawnStarter, this scholarship supports students starting or planning to start a lawn care business. Recently graduated high school students as well as current two-year, four-year, and graduate students are eligible, and all academic majors are welcome. Applicants must submit an essay on why they’re passionate about building a business in 500–700 words.  Award:  $1,000;  Deadline:  August 20 (and December 31)
• Castagra Roofing Scholarship :  Students passionate about innovation or sustainability should apply for this award. Applicants must be from the US or Canada and pursuing a college or vocational program in roofing or a similar field such as construction, waterproofing, etc. An essay of 1,000 words or fewer on your educational and career goals is required. Those not planning to attend college may still be eligible if they meet a separate set of requirements. A runner-up prize will also be awarded, and applicants may reapply to the program each year that they meet eligibility requirements.  Awards:  Up to $1,500;  Deadline:  August 30
• Leaders Save Lives Scholarship Program :  This opportunity from the American Red Cross is more of a challenge and is open to high school and college students, including those enrolled at trade schools or community colleges. Applicants must organize a blood drive during designated time frames, and depending on how many pints you collect, you’ll earn varying gift card awards and entries into scholarship drawings. Awards: Up to $200 (gift cards) and $2,500 (scholarship drawings); Drive time frames: June 1–August 31 (and December 15–January 15)
• MyMozaic Monthly Scholarship Contest :  This monthly scholarship sweepstakes is open to US citizens 13 years and older. All you have to do is provide your email to apply. Selection is based on the quality of your MyMozaic profile, including documents, photos, videos, and followers.  Award:  $1,000;  Deadline:  August 31 (last day of every month)
• Chaffin Luhana Foundation Anti-Distracted Driving Scholarship Essay Contest :  This scholarship is open to students under the age of 25 who are currently registered at an accredited high school, college, or university in the Greater Pittsburgh area, including Western Pennsylvania, Eastern Ohio, and Northern West Virginia. An essay is required, and the scholarship money must be used toward student housing, books, or tuition.  Award:  $2,500;  Deadline:  August 31
• $2,000 Sally Mae Scholarship Sweepstakes : Sallie Mae offers an easy scholarship contest that both students and parents can enter each month. It’s open to legal residents of the 50 United States, the District of Columbia, or any US Territory who are age 17 or older at the time of entry. • US Figure Skating Scholarships : Multiple awards are available for high school seniors, undergraduates, and graduate students who have competed in official US Figure Skating events. • Make Me Laugh Scholarship : Why so serious? If you have an embarrassing but funny story to share, you have to enter this scholarship contest. 20 No Essay Scholarships You Should Apply For

With the rising cost of higher education, it’s important to secure as much financial aid for school as possible. You may not realize it, but you probably already qualify for dozens of scholarships.  You may be a competitor for awards because of your strong GPA, academic area of interest, hobbies, or even because you graduated high school in a particular county.

While there are many scholarships that require you to submit a long list of supporting documentation, not all applications are so taxing. The list below offers information on 20 scholarships that do not require you to write a personal essay or statement of academic goals. 

These no essay scholarships save you time and energy and could result in you garnering hundreds or thousands of dollars in free money for school.

Tips When Applying To These Scholarships

Here are a couple of things to consider while compiling your no essay scholarship applications. Bear in mind that even no essay scholarships will require you to submit at least a few important documents. Be sure that you meet all of the submission requirements for each scholarship, as each one will ask for specific information. If you don’t submit all of the required documents, they may toss out your application. 

Secondly, in addition to searching for scholarship opportunities at the local level and students in your county, state, or region, do not overlook scholarships that offer smaller awards. No matter the size of the scholarship, all of the money you receive means taking on less debt through loans or paying out of pocket.

1. Richard J. Seif Technical Sales and Marketing Scholarship

This $3,000 award is reserved for learners pursuing a bachelor’s degree in business or engineering with a concentration in marketing or sales. Applicants should possess a 2.5 or higher GPA and be U.S. or Canadian citizens. This one is closed for the year but will reopen again in early 2024 so mark your calendars!

2. Honeywell Scholarship

Offered by the Society of Women Engineers (SWE), this award is for students in a graduate or undergraduate program preparing for a career in computer science , engineering , or engineering technology. Awards range from $1,000-$15,000. Applicants must identify as women and be enrolled in an ABET-accredited program. Applications will be open in December and February and are due in February or May, depending on the applicant’s grade level.

3. Reisher Scholars Program

The Reisher Scholars Program offers both merit- and need-based scholarships for sophomores and transfer students in Colorado. Awards range from $4,000-$11,000, with the average being $7,984. Applicants should be full-time students at one of the seven Reisher partner universities 3.0 or higher GPA. Application due dates vary depending on the student’s institution.

4. Alwin B. Newton Scholarship

The $5,000, one-year Newton Scholarship requires applicants to possess a 3.0 or higher or be in the top 30% of their class. Applications must include three letters of recommendation and documents that demonstrate the student’s financial need. Applications are due on December 1 for awards granted the following fall semester.

5. Welder Training Scholarship

This $2,500 award is reserved for students studying welding engineering. Applicants must be at least 18 years old with a 3.0 or higher GPA and enrolled in a four-year undergraduate welding engineering technology program. Applicants must include two letters of recommendation and be submitted by November 30, 2023. 

6. Tang Scholarship

Established by Edward C. Tang, this scholarship is designed to help Asian and Pacific Islander students who identify as part of the LGBTQIA+ community . Up to four awards are given each year, with each award being up to $15,000. Applicants must have graduated from a high school located in one of the nine Bay Area counties with a 3.0 or higher GPA. This application is closed for the 2023-2024 academic year, but should reopen in early 2024. Applications are due in April.

7. Western Digital Scholarship Program

This award is reserved for any undergraduate student who is a biological dependent of a Western Digital employee. Applicants must be enrolled, or plan on enrolling, in a four-year college or university program as a full-time student. Competitive applicants possess a 3.0 or higher GPA. Awards range from $2,000-$5,000. The application opens in January and is usually due at the beginning of April.

8. Cathay Bank Foundation Scholarship Program

The foundation offers up to 20 scholarships of $1,000 to outstanding high school seniors each year. Applicants must reside in California, Illinois, Maryland, Massachusetts, Nevada, New Jersey, New York, Texas, or Washington. The need-based award is for learners who plan on attending a four-year program in one of the states previously listed and possess a 3.0 or higher cumulative high school GPA. Applications are due at the beginning of April each year.

9. James R. Bullock Scholarship

Reserved for students residing in North Carolina, South Carolina, or Georgia, the Bullock Scholarship is a one-year award for undergraduates in architectural or mechanical engineering worth up to $5,000. Applicants should possess a 3.0 or higher GPA or be in the top 30% of their class. Applications are due by December 1, 2023.

10. Project Grant

Offered by the Connecticut Space Grant Consortium, the Project Grant is worth up to $1,000. The award is designed to offset the cost of materials for students completing their senior capstone projects or undergraduate research projects. Applicants need a 3.0 or higher GPA and must be enrolled at a Consortium Member Institution. Applications are open in January for spring scholarships, and in September for fall scholarships. 

11. Coca-Cola Scholars Program

Prospective recipients must be current high school students in one of the 50 states or Puerto Rico with a 3.0 or higher GPA. Applicants must have plans to attend a degree-granting, accredited college or university in the U.S. Up to 150 scholars are chosen each year for this $20,000 award. Applications will be open from August 1-October 2, 2023 for students who will graduate during the 2023-2024 academic year.

12. ASHRAE General Scholarship

The ASHRAE General Scholarship award is worth $5,000. Applicants must be full-time undergraduate engineering or pre-engineering students with a 3.0 or higher GPA at an ABET-accredited institution. Applications must include official academic transcripts and three signed letters of recommendation. Applications are due by December 1, 2023.

13. Tennessee HOPE Scholarship

Funded by the proceeds from the Tennessee State Lottery, this award is for new college freshmen enrolling in one of 16 eligible colleges or universities in the state. The award is for $1,500-$2,250 per semester, depending on whether the student is attending a two- or four-year school. Students with a 3.0 or higher GPA planning to pursue a bachelor’s or associate degree are eligible to apply. Standardized test scores may be required. Applications are due by September 1 each year.

14. Children of Veterans Tuition Grant

Applicants must be biological or adopted 16-26-year-old children of veterans living in Michigan. Their veteran parents must have passed away or become disabled as a result of their military service. Applicants should have a 2.25 or higher GPA and be enrolled at least half-time at a participating institution in Michigan. Full-time students can receive up to $2,800 per academic year. The application deadline varies per year.

15. Florida Bright Futures Scholarship Program

Applicants must be Florida residents and a U.S. or eligible citizen to apply. Prospective recipients must have graduated from a Florida high school with a 3.0 or higher GPA. Applications must include documentation of at least 75 hours of community service. Competitive ACT or SAT scores are also required. This award is worth up to $212.71 per credit hour. Applications are due by August 31 after high school graduation.

16. The Scott McClean Love Scholarship

This award is for undergraduate learners with a 2.0 or higher GPA who are children of former U.S. Army personnel. Eligible students have graduated high school, currently attending a college or university, and are 24 years old or younger. Awards range from $500-$2,000 per year. Applications open every January and close in April.

17. Robert W. White, Sr. Scholarship

The Robert W. White, Sr. Scholarship is for full-time students who are juniors or seniors in a four-year welding engineering degree program. Applicants must be at least 18 years old with a 3.2 or higher GPA. This need-based scholarship requires proof of financial need and is renewable for up to two years. The $2,500 award may be used for tuition and fees only. Applications are due by March 1 each year. 

18. Pearl Scholarship

The Pearl Scholarship is for students in Oregon who have lived or remain in foster care and want to attend a public college or university in the state . The award is for those interested in studying health sciences. Applicants should be 26 years old or younger and plan to enroll at least half-time in school. The amount awarded varies per year. Applications are open from November - March for the upcoming academic year. 

19. General Mills Internship and Scholarship

This program is open to graduate students enrolled in a food science program who want to take on a paid summer research and development internship. The scholarship portion of the award is worth $4,800 for one academic year. Prospective recipients should have a 3.0 or higher GPA and must be enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program for fall 2022 to be eligible. Applications are due by September 30. 

20. Scholarship America Dream Award

Applicants for the American Dream Award must be 17 years of age or older with at least one year of college completed. Prospective recipients must be currently enrolled as a full-time student in an associate or bachelor’s degree program with a 3.0 or higher GPA. These awards are need-based and worth between $5,000-$15,000. The application will reopen February 2024.

Short essay

24 Cagayan Valley students get scholarships

The Gregorio P. Uy & Lee Peng Scholarship Foundation (GPULP Scholarship Foundation) named on Friday its latest batch of scholars.

The foundation identified the scholars as Jhon Ace De Vera, Cassandra Bacani, Clarisel Baccay, Ma. Clarisse Neri Cuaresma, Danny Dela Cruz, Edgar Daiz Jr., Krishelle Radine Ebreo, Ronalyn Languido, Aristotle Lee Maramag, Jeftee Obena, Janelle Keith Pascua, Irish Santos, Angelito Soriano, Angeli Villamar, Jolina Villanueva, Daryl Albano, Dominic Francisco, King Marion Apil, Jhanelle Creyzha Arteta, Daryl Jay Molina, Kristine Joy Onnagan, Mark Vincent Parinas, Lebron James Romero and Adrean Faith Viernes.

They study at the Philippine Normal University-North, Isabela State University and Cagayan State University.

Founded by businessmen and siblings Gregorio Uy Jr. and Samuel Uy, have granted scholarships a number of talented students in Isabela and Cagayan.
