My Plan For Summer Vacation Essay In 400 Words

Introduction: summer’s spark.

Summer has always been my favourite time of the year. It’s like a long pause from the busy school days, filled with endless possibilities. This year, I’m particularly excited because I’ve planned many adventures that promise to make this summer unforgettable. From reading magical books to exploring the great outdoors, I’m ready to get the spark of summer with endless joy.

My Booklist Adventure

One of the highlights of my summer is going to be my booklist adventure. I’ve carefully selected a variety of books that will take me on journeys to distant lands, past and future.

First on my list is “The Enchanted Wood” by Enid Blyton, where I’ll join Joe, Beth, and Frannie in their magical escapades up the Faraway Tree.

Then, I’ll switch gears with “Diary of a Wimpy Kid” by Jeff Kinney, for some light-hearted laughter and relatable school-day tales.

But it’s not all fiction; I’ve also included “National Geographic Kids Almanac,” filled with fascinating facts about animals, science, and the world. This mix of fantasy, humor, and knowledge is my perfect recipe for a summer.

Snapshot Summer

This summer, I’m starting a “Snapshot Summer.” I’ll use my camera to catch special moments of my vacation. I’ll begin with simple photography tips, like how to set up a shot and use light, using just my phone.

My backyard will be where I start taking pictures. I want to take photos of morning dew on flowers and the detailed designs on leaves. I’m also looking forward to taking pictures of family picnics. I’ll catch real moments of fun and the bright colors of our picnic food.

Art in the Sun

“Art in the Sun” is my plan to take art outside. I’ll make a small art spot on our porch, where the sunlight is just right. I’ll try different art materials – like watercolors for painting sunsets, chalk for the ground, and even leaves and flower petals for making picture collages. I want my art to show the bright colors and fun of summer. I’m really excited to make a big wall picture on paper and have my friends help paint it.

Two Wheels, Endless Adventures: My Cycling Journey

This summer, my bike and I will go on adventures. We’ll ride through my neighborhood, seeing everything with new eyes. It’s not about how far we go but about the fun things we see and feel, like the cool breeze and the sound of birds.

Pedaling Through Summer: Exploring New Trails

I’m excited to take my bike on new paths in parks and beyond. I’ll make sure to be safe, with my helmet and water bottle. Discovering a secret spot or a beautiful view will make every ride special.

Heart & Help: Volunteering

This summer, I’m doing something different by volunteering. It’s a way to help others and make a positive impact. I’ll be at a nearby animal shelter, where I’ll learn how to take care of animals and might even make some animal buddies. It’s more than just helping; it’s about learning and discovering more about myself and the world.

Memory Lane: Scrapbooking

This summer, I’m going to make a scrapbook to keep my memories. I’ll put in photos, tickets, and leaves from my trips. Decorating the pages with colors and stickers will make it fun. This scrapbook will be like a treasure, holding all the great times from my summer.

When summer is over, I’ll think about all the fun I had. I rode bikes, helped others, and made a scrapbook of memories. It was wonderful. I learned new things, made new friends, and enjoyed little things. This summer was more than a break from school. It was a time to explore and find happiness.

Essay on Summer Vacation in 100 words

An incredible time to visit hilly destinations with family are holidays. They give an escape from the same monotonous life schedule. The summer season is an incredible time to have those stress free excursions and get in touch with nature which is nearly impossible in our daily schedules for the whole year. I visited my grandparents last year and stayed with them for two weeks. In contrast with the word summer, the cool thing about summer vacations is discovering new trails, creating new things, etc. During my stay with my grandparents, I also read novels and other books that helped me expand my knowledge of the world. For the remainder of the vacation days, I spent them playing games and cooking my favourite dishes.

Essays on Summer Vacation: 200 Words Sample

Summer is a time to bask in the warmth of the sun, explore new horizons, and create lasting memories.

During this break, I embarked on a journey of relaxation and adventure. I had the opportunity to visit the serene beaches of a coastal town. The soothing sound of waves and the gentle caress of the sea breeze offered a perfect escape from the bustling city life. The sand between my toes and the sun kissing my skin provided a sense of tranquillity.

Holidays are an amazing time for us to visit hill stations with family. The summer season is a great time for us to take stress-free trips and get to trek in nature, which we aren’t able to do in our busy schedules for the entire year. Last year I visited my grandparents and stayed with them for 20 days. The best thing about the summer holidays is creating and discovering new things in the village. While enjoying my stay, I also learned some new things that expanded my knowledge. I spent the rest of the summer holidays playing board and video games and cooking under my mother’s supervision.

As the summer days slowly waned, a sense of nostalgia crept in. The memories and lessons from this summer vacation will continue to shape my journey as I return to the world of academics with renewed vigour and a heart full of gratitude.

Essays on Summer Vacation: 400 Words Sample

Summer vacation, that much-awaited break from the mundane routines of school and study, is a time of rejuvenation, exploration, and personal growth. It offers the perfect opportunity to unwind, reflect, and create lasting memories.

A Journey of Self-Introspection

During this past summer vacation, I embarked on a journey of self-discovery and adventure. The journey began with a sense of anticipation and excitement, as I bid adieu to textbooks and classrooms. My destination was a coastal paradise, where golden sands met the azure sea. The tranquil rhythm of the waves provided a serene backdrop for relaxation, reflection, and renewal.

The break also provided ample time for cultural exploration. I wandered through quaint streets, explored historical sites, and engaged with locals to gain insights into their way of life. Trying local cuisine became a delightful adventure in itself, as I savoured flavours that were a symphony of tradition and innovation.

Amidst exploration, I found time to reconnect with my family. Shared laughter, deep conversations, and moments of camaraderie became the heart of the vacation. We hiked through lush trails, picnicked in meadows, and watched sunsets that painted the sky in hues of orange and pink. These experiences solidified the bonds that make family the cornerstone of our lives.

Beyond leisure, the vacation allowed for personal growth. I pursued hobbies I had set aside during the academic year, from painting to playing musical instruments. I also volunteered with a local community organization, an experience that not only gave me a sense of purpose but also introduced me to remarkable individuals and stories.

As the vacation drew to a close, a sense of nostalgia settled in. The days had flown by, leaving behind memories etched in the sands of time. The journey, both physical and introspective, had transformed me. I returned with a newfound appreciation for the beauty of the world, the importance of relationships, and the significance of taking breaks to recharge.

In Conclusion

A summer vacation is more than just a break from school; it’s a transformative experience that encompasses relaxation, exploration, and growth. It’s a canvas upon which we paint our memories, our passions, and our connections. As I stepped back into the world of academics, I carried with me the lessons and experiences of this summer, poised to embrace the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead.

How to Write a Summer Vacation Essay

Summer break is a great time to kick back, relax and enjoy yourself and, if you’re lucky, to go on an awesome trip! But how can you translate your amazing vacation into a narrative essay for English class or work it to fit a common application prompt? Here’s some tips to help you out:

Save Mementos From Your Summer

Even if you’re not the sentimental type, make sure to document your summer travels. Take pictures, write diary entries, save train stubs. This is the best way to ensure that you’ll remember your summer well enough to look back and write about it later.

Write an Outline Before Writing Your Essay

Regardless of whether you spent your summer break in Madison, Wisconsin or Madrid, Spain, you should plan out what you’re going to write before diving in. Make a list of what you’ve done over the summer so that you can later narrow down a focus for the essay itself. Keep in mind that the best essay topics aren’t always on the most exciting activities an essay about getting stuck in traffic on the way to the airport on the way to Denver could work better than an essay on hiking the Grand Canyon and looking out at the incredible view.

Be Specific

Since you’re going to keep a record of your trip and come up with an outline before writing your essay, you should be able to put some detail into your essay. Be as specific as possible when it comes to your word choice. If you’re talking about some gelato that you ate in Italy, don’t say that it was “delicious.” Instead, say that it was “creamy and chocolatey, with a note of vanilla.”

Focus on Feelings About Your Trip, Not What You Did

If you spent the summer on the beach in Cape Cod, you shouldn’t write about what you did. You should write instead about how you felt while there. An essay that reads “I went to beach, then had lobster for dinner” is not quite as exciting as one that goes, “As I went for a walk on the beach, I thought about how lucky I was to be able to enjoy nature.” Feelings translate better into text than events, and you should try to place those feelings into context.

Stick to Writing About a Small Moment

With any essay you write especially a short one it’s important to focus a narrow moment in time. Don’t write about your entire week in Paris. Instead, write about the moment you got lost in the city at midnight and fumbled your way home in the dark. You don’t have to pick a particularly glamorous moment from your trip, but you should pick one that meant something to you.

Edit Your Essay Carefully

The shorter the essay, the more important precision is. Regardless of length, make sure to carefully read over what you’ve written to make sure every sentence conveys the message you most want displayed. The editing process matters just as much as the writing process, even if it seems less so.

A Long Essay  on “How I Spend My Summer Vacation”

Summer vacation is one of my favorite times of the year as almost every year me and my family make plans for long vacations. Summer is an ideal time for us to go on stress-free trips and get closer to nature, something we are unable to do throughout the rest of the year due to our hectic schedules.

We generally go to meet our grandparents or go on a trip with family and friends. This year, I went on a trip to the hill stations of Ooty along with my parents, grandparents and cousins. The most important thing about these vacations is the time spent with family during these vacations we make life-long memories.

We started the vacation by going to the native village of our grandparents, which is around 100 km away from the city in which we reside. My cousins and our extended family also joined us in our ancestral home. We then took a train to Ooty.

The train ride was filled with laughter and songs, and I greatly enjoyed the ride. We got to see the beautiful landscapes of India on our way to the destination. We reached our Ooty in the evening. It is a small hill station with beautiful natural scenery and vegetation.

I started the next day with an early morning walk with my grandparents and cousins. I then ate my breakfast after which the whole family traveled around the town. I learnt about the birds and trees of the hill stations. During nights I and my cousins would hear stories from my grandparents. I thoroughly enjoyed these stories. At the end of my trip, we went shopping to take some mementoes to my hometown.

Despite the fact that my summer vacation was longer, the trip was by far the most memorable experience I had at that time. I am very grateful for the time I spent with my family. During the vacation, I not only learnt new things about the natural and cultural heritage of the place but also had a great time with my family. I like summer vacations and have the satisfaction of knowing that I have utilized my time productively.

How I Spend My Summer Vacation Paragraph for Kids

Summer vacations are the most fun time of the year as I get to enjoy my time with my family and friends. I start planning my summer vacations as soon as the final exams end. Our family usually goes together for a vacation during the holidays. We also visit our grandparents during the summer vacations.

This summer vacation we traveled to the hill station of Ooty, along with our grandparents and cousins. I had a great time watching the scenery around the hill station and being in nature. We learnt about the different types of vegetation and the cultural heritage of the place. My grandparents helped me in learning the names of different trees.

We went bird watching with the whole family. I learnt about the different birds that are found only in the Ooty. We would start the day with an early morning walk with my cousins and then we would play and travel through the city for the day. Towards the end of the trip, we also went shopping to take souvenirs of the place. I am very grateful for the love of my family, and I had the best time during this summer vacation. It was one of the most memorable vacations.

Plans for my Summer

By Ray Bogle

Rising 4 th grade, Belle Hall Elementary

I just can’t wait until summer. With all of those plans to do, it’s really going to be fun! I’ll tell you my awesome plans.

This summer I’m going to Michigan! When school gets out were going there. Along the way we might make some stops. First we will leave South Carolina and go to North Carolina and stay there a day. We will go through these states: Virginia, West Virginia, Ohio and Michigan. One of the Sundays in Michigan will be the most fun because we’re going too a live baseball game. Its the Detroit Tiger vs. Cleveland Indians baseball game. After that, I might go swimming with my Dad’s friend’s daughter who is the same age as me and likes baseball like I do.

When we leave Michigan we will go down a different trail and it’s Indiana, Kentucky, Tennessee, and back to South Carolina.

When we come back I will play baseball mostly. Since the summer gets really hot I will enjoy getting wet at the beach. I may fish there, too. I hope I catch a fish to eat. When I go to the water park I will run through the water and get wet. I could always take my water gun and spray myself, too. My Dad and I might have a water balloon fight. We’ll see who will win.

If I get too hot, I will cool down by watching some TV or I will read.

There’s just so much fun stuff to do in the summer.

My Summer Plans

By Marshall Whitmer

Rising 5 th grade, Belle Hall Elementary

What summer means to me….. Well, it’s hard to say. It’s hard to think about it when there’s so much to say. Summer means, no school, no homework, and no schedule! You can sleep in, go to the beach and pool, and just have plain fun! All you really do in summer is play with your friends in the hot sun!!!!!

The plans for our family are to drive up to Boston, Massachusetts and probably go to a Red Sox game because I LOVE baseball. Then we’ll drive down to UCONN and my mom will show us all the fun things to do, because my mom went to college there. Then we may drive to Rochester, NY and see my grandma.

What I normally like to do in Charleston is go to the beach. I like Isle of Palms, but I like Sullivan’s Island WAY better. The beach at Sullivan’s is bigger, has bigger waves, and is less crowded. IOP is smaller, has fewer waves, and is SO crowded. My brother and I sometimes invite friends to the beach and always have fun!!!!! We’ve never had a bad time (unless you count weather)!!!! We always play soccer, wiffle ball, and play in the ocean. In the summer I have memories that go all the way back to before I went to preschool. I love summer so much I miss summer when school comes around.

But the best thing about summer is WATERPARKS!!!!!! I love water parks because the slides are awesome. I love them because I feel like I’m walking on air. I go with my friends to all the water parks in Charleston County. My favorite water park is Whirlin’ Waters in North Charleston. I love it because the water slides are so BIG! I’ve only been there twice but it gives me enough experience to love the park! This is all the stuff I like to do in the summer. 🙂

My Summer Vacation

By Lila Richardson

Rising 6 th grade, Laing Middle School

This summer, I will be going to Eleuthera, a beautiful tropical island in the Bahamas. My family, grandparents and best friends of ours will be traveling together. Before I go, I will have a lot of packing to do. I will be staying for one week. We will explore the island and do a variety of exciting activities. The only electronic we will use out there is probably our camera. I plan to take a bunch of cool pictures.

While we are there we will go cliff jumping, surfing, snorkeling, and more active activities. I will collect a lot of shells that my sister and I plan to make jewelry with. We will find colorful sea glass and all sorts of seashells. There are many beaches on the island for us to explore.

When I went last year, we caught fish and crab for our meals. It was fun to cook and eat all that we caught ourselves. Some nights we went out to eat dinner though. We also rode a ferry over to another island called Harbour Island, where we got to go to a variety of shops, and I bought a skirt and a bracelet. This year, I will be looking forward to doing much more shopping. When we are on the island it will be exciting to ride around in a golf cart for our transportation instead of a normal car.

The house we have chosen to stay in is beautiful. It is three stories high, and it has a walkway right to the beach. It also has an infinity pool and a pool house. We will have tons of water toys to play with while we are there. We will have a huge water trampoline. There will be kayaks, paddleboards, surfboards and a sailboat provided for us. Fourteen people are going, so it is good that we chose a big house to stay in. I am very excited about our vacation and spending time with my family for a week. This will be a trip I will always remember!

My Summer Fun!

By Kinsey von Lehe

I love summer! It’s the time where we can go to the pool or beach and be with our family, But I do have favorite parts!

One of my favorite parts is MY BIRTHDAY! It’s going to be great because I’ll be with my friends. My birthday is on June 20, 2013. I am going to have a pool party/slumber party. At the pool, we’re going to play lots of games like… Star. It’s where you think of a movie star, a book, or even a television show/movie. Then you start giving hints. The first one who figures it out the answer has to swim to the other side, tag their hand, and say out loud what that person might be thinking. After the pool party we will go to my house and watch movies and have snacks.

Another thing I’m doing this summer is going to Bethany Beach, DE. This will be my 2 nd time going. Every year we go with my mom’s friend’s family. We go to the beach every day. When my mom’s friends and their kids go with my mom my sister and I to the beach we play soccer and crash into the huge waves. Some nights we go eat at our friend’s house in Bethany.

Once we’re done with Bethany, we’re heading to D.C., where my mom’s friend lives. I have been to D.C. one time but I was 2 so I can’t really remember anything. My mom has been there so many times this year and she told me so many things like there is this restaurant where the whole floor is made out of pennies because the restaurant is named after Abraham Lincoln. While we are in D.C. we’re going to see where Abraham was assassinated in the theater. We’re also going to see the Declaration of Independence written by Thomas Jefferson the 3 rd president of the U.S. Another thing we’re going to see is the Constitution. After all that excitement we’re going home.

As you can see I am going to have a wonderful summer and I hope you have a good one too.

By Anna Brennan

I’m looking forward to summer vacation.

After school is out, and when summer begins I have to go to a SAIL (Students Actively Involved in Learning) camp. I didn’t get to choose if I wanted to go or not because my parents make me go to it. It is going to last for three weeks! I got to choose some other camps though. I have always wanted to go horseback riding, so my parents found me a horseback riding camp. YAY! I might go to a tennis camp, too.

I am going to have a “Wet and Wacky” summer. I am going to go to the beach a lot. I am also going to go to the pool and do lots of awesome jumps. Splash! When I go on my parents’ boat this summer I will get splashed a ton. I hope I will go fishing on the boat. It gets so hot in the summer that along with the boat, beach, and pool, my sister and I have a water fight. We get out our water guns. We also get out plastic buckets. We turn on the hose and the sprinkler. We use the hose to fill the buckets with water and then pour it on each other’s head.

In my free time, I will read, read, and read. I will also practice my hoola hoop tricks. I hope I can learn some origami during the summer. I will also do some spying. I will stay up late and get all my spy gear and then spy on everybody. Watch Out! I could be spying on you.

My family is going on a trip in the middle of the summer. (I forgot where we are going.)

The bad thing is that I will have to leave my teacher.

I hope you and I both have a “wet and wacky” summer vacation.

Hello Summer!

By Mac Ketchin

Summer is a time to relax and have fun.

During my summer vacation I plan to do a lot of different thigns. I think I will start out with going to the pool. Because it will start to get very hot, and I would need a place to cool off.

The second thing I would like to do would be going to a water park called Splash Island. At Splash Island I could swim, play, and slide all I want.

The third thing I want to do is go to Myrtle Beach with my family. It will be the most fun part of my summer. The next thing I plan to do is go diving. I would like to see a sea turtle while I’m diving.

I would want to go to bed at 9:30 every night and have a spend the night every week.

I would love to go to Chuck E. Cheese. I would want 50 tokens.

I plan to play a lot of baseball

I think my summer will be really fun. I’ll see you at the pool.

By Brady Quick

My favorite thing to do in the summer is sleep in and not have to worry about school. You can have long fun days and you can go to the pool. Summer makes me feel relaxed and free.

One of my favorite things to do is go to the beach. At the beach you can boogie board and surf board. You can also build sand castles and fly kits. At the beach I like to play football with my dad or friends. I also like to collect lots of shells. When we go to the beach we usually bring lunch. Sometimes we will bring a shovel and dig until we find water.

This year I am also going to travel. I am going to New York and maybe Chicago. In New York there are many things to do. I can go to the Hershey’s Chocolate Factory, I can go to the huge Toys R Us, and my mom can go to Macy’s. When I go to Chicago I can go to Lincoln Park Zoo. Also there is a skate park under a bridge by where I am staying I can go to. I am excited about these trips.

This year I am also going to go jet skiing with my dad. I have never been jet skiing before but I have always wanted to. I am going to some summer camps as well. I am going to a Palmetto Park camp and a few others. I might go play paint ball when I have time. I also might go fishing and roller skating. I am going to do summer reading too. I will read Charlie Joe Jackson’s Guide to Extra Credit , Middle School, the Worst Years of My Life , and many more books. The ice cream truck comes by a lot too. My favorite ice cream is the cookie and ice cream sandwich. Summer is the best time of year. 🙂

I love summer! Summer means not waking up in the morning for school and no work!

Summer is my favorite season! It’s when my birthday is! For my Birthday, I am going to have a hip hop party! My Hip Hop teacher is going to host it! I’m inviting all my friends! Then, my grandma is coming to visit! She is going to take me on a shopping spree! I am so excited! We are going to have so much fun! Next, the WHOLE Ouellette family is going to Coco Beach, Florida! We are going to have a family reunion. I am so excited to see all my family! We haven’t seen each other in a VERY long time! After that, my family is planning to go to Michigan. We have a lot of family there! That’s where I was born! We will go to a Detroit Tigers baseball game! After that, we will go to Lake Kiwi! My friend, Lucy is coming with us! We will go on boat rides, go swimming, and tubing. Lake Kiwi is SO much fun! Then, we might go to Hilton Head! My Grandma and Grandpa Ouellette live there! My grandma owns a golf club.

She is going to have a Grandma and Grand-Daughter fashion show! My baby cousin and I are going to be in it! My cousin’s name is Caylee. She is one years old! We hopefully will be very pretty! My grandma said the we also be able to have a little birthday for me because my grandma will not be able to come to my family birthday party! When I get home I will get together with friends and probably go to the pool! Diving into the pool is like going upside on a roller coaster in the winter. Because it’s so fun and also cold! We will go to water parks and eat hotdog, hamburgers, and definitely have some nice, cold ice cream! Summer is AWESOME! I never, ever want my summer to end! Now we will go to fifth grade! Oh no all that work! I love summer!

During the summer I like to go shopping with my mom and dad. We pick up snacks and frozen food to eat for dinner and before we leave out of the store we always pick up freeze pops and then when we get home we freeze them and eat them all in 1 day. During summer I also like to cook with my mom. We usually bake breakfast for my family. Around 4:00pm to 5:00pm we bake cupcakes and go to the pool.

I like to travel during the summer because you don’t have to worry about cold air, the breeze, or heat. That’s why I like travel during the summer. I like to go to Atlanta, Ga. Because they have pretty houses and I also get to go to the pool. We usually go to Atlanta to visit my aunt and my little cousin. I like to go to the zoo and learn about many animals like lions and tigers. During the summer I like to watch my baby sister and my little brother. I like to go to the beach and play in the sand with my cousins, making sand castles and beach houses.

My favorite thing to do the most is SLEEP!!!! I think that sleeping is the best because you don’t’ have to worry about getting up for school all the time and being late for school and doing homework but… the sad part is you wouldn’t be able to see your friends like Lucy, Grace, and Hannah. That’s the one thing why I still want to be in school. But I don’t think this will be a regular summer because I am use to my school schedule that I have to get use to waking up at that time because I will go sleepy throughout the day. But that’s how I love my summer!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

By Thomas Sexton

To me summer means that there is no homework, no teachers and no assignments. It also means that we have freedom. With that freedom we can go to the pool or the beach and be stress free. One thing I like to do on a hot summer day is got to the pool and stay all day. We can throw the football or bounce the ball across the water. If we go to the beach we could play bocce or try to find sand dollars.

This summer is not going to be spent in my house the whole time. This summer my family and I are going to my grandma’s house in North Carolina. We usually go on the weekend and can only stay for one and a half days before school starts on Monday. But, since its summer, we might be able to stay for a week! She lives next to the woods so we could go hunting or fishing if we wanted to. If we get lucky we could come home with a fish and she could cook something delicious with just that fish. Since summer last for two and one half months, summer runs through July. On July 4 th there are fire-works and explosions of light. Usually my family launches some rockets that are really loud and watches the fireworks.

For the last month of summer I want to spend every day like it is my last day alive. We usually do a lot of fun things like fishing in our pond next door. We also go to our Nana’s house in Mt. Pleasant. This year my parents are going to St. Thomas so my brother and I have to stay there for a week! We might even go to the water park. When we get home we usually do something like watch a movie or play a board game. Since we can’t travel because it’s to close to the end of the summer we just lay back and have fun. That’s how I spend my summer.

Key Points to Remember When Writing An Essay on Summer Vacation for Lower Primary Classes

10 lines on summer vacation in english, short paragraph on summer vacation, long paragraph on summer vacation for kids, what will your child learn while writing an essay on summer vacation.

Summer vacations are every students’ favourite time of the year. Children eagerly wait for months for their summer vacation to start and do all the fun things they have planned with their friends, siblings and families. It is the longest vacation of the year during the school term, so students enjoy a good break from their daily routine. They can sleep late, spend more time playing with their friends, go on holidays with their family or use the time to learn something new. While they get a break from the regular classes, students get homework from their teachers to be completed during the holidays. A commonly assigned holiday homework is to write an essay on summer holidays. While older kids may find it easy to write on this subject, younger children of class 1, 2 and 3 may find it tricky to express themselves on pen and paper.

Here are some sample essays on “How I Spent My Summer Vacation” that will help young kids write this essay independently.

Before children start writing about their summer vacation, they should know what to include in the essay. Here are some ideas that will help them in the assignment:

  • Describe what summer vacation means for you.
  • List the reasons why you like it.
  • Write about the activities you did in your summer vacation.
  • Write about the places you visited during your summer break.
  • Write about the people you met during your summer vacation.

Younger children may find it easier to compose an essay by breaking it up into simple sentences. They can start by writing their ideas in individual sentences and then sequentially arranging them to form a complete paragraph. Here is an example of a few simple lines for an essay on summer vacation for class 1 and class 2 kids:

  • Summer vacations are my favourite time of the year as I can do all the things I enjoy during these days.
  • During these holidays, I get a chance to learn new hobbies like painting, dancing or gardening and spend more time with my friends.
  • During my summer vacations, I visit my grandparents, who live in a village.
  • All my cousins visit my grandparents during the summer holidays and together, we have a lot of fun!
  • My grandparents have a beautiful garden, and they teach us gardening.
  • My grandmother is an excellent cook and makes lots of delicious dishes for us every day.
  • In the evening, all of us cousins listen to stories from our grandmother.
  • We play many games like carrom, hide-and-seek and ludo.
  • We also paint, draw and do our summer homework during the afternoons.
  • Every year I enjoy my summer holidays with my cousins and grandparents.

Writing a short paragraph about summer vacations can be daunting for students of lower primary classes. They are still learning to form sentences, so expressing their views in a paragraph may be difficult for them. This short essay sample will help them through the assignment:

Summer vacations are my favourite time of year because I get to do all the activities I enjoy. During these vacations, I also get the opportunity to learn new things and spend more time with my friends. I visit my grandparents during my summer vacations, who live in a far-off village. During the summer holidays, all of my cousins visit my grandparents, and we have a lot of fun together. My grandparents have a lovely garden, and they teach us how to plant saplings and water the plants. My grandma is a fantastic cook who prepares various delectable dishes for us daily. All of us cousins gather to listen to our grandmother’s stories in the evenings. During the day, we play games like carrom, hide-and-seek, and ludo. All this fun makes summer vacation my most enjoyable time of the year.

Students of grade 3 are adept at writing sentences. However, they may still find it challenging to write a descriptive essay on their summer vacation. Here is a sample essay on summer vacation class 3 students:

Summer vacations are the happiest time for all students. During this time, they get freedom from getting up early for school and doing homework. They also get to sleep late and wake up late with no classes to attend in the morning. Summer vacation starts just after commencing a new grade or after the final exams, making it the perfect time for students to relax after loads of studying. So, it’s no wonder every student anticipates summer vacations every year.

Most of us have elaborate plans on how we will spend our vacations. Some kids plan to go on holidays with their families, while some take up new hobbies or visit their grandparents or relatives they can’t meet during school days. And some kids get to do all of these things during their summer vacations.

I am one such lucky kid as my parents take me to visit my grandparents’ house in the village every summer vacation. There, I get to meet my cousins, uncles and aunts. Together we all spend a few days enjoying relaxed village life.

During the day, I play many games with my cousins, and we complete our school holiday homework. In the evenings, we help our grandfather in the garden. We water the plants and learn to plant new saplings. At night, my grandmother tells us interesting stories. She is also an excellent cook. We all get to enjoy her delicious dishes daily. My aunt is a good painter. Every year, she teaches drawing and painting to all of us kids. We also go to a nearby dance school to learn dancing.

After spending a few days with my grandparents and cousins, my parents take me on holiday. Every year we visit a different tourist place, and this year we plan to go to Gwalior and spend a few days enjoying the forts and other attractions of the city. We usually return home a few days before the summer vacation ends. I use that time to complete my school work and prepare my books for the school reopening. I also spend time playing with my neighbourhood friends in the evening. We all enjoy playing cricket in the colony playground. Summer vacations are always the most enjoyable time for me as I get to do all the things I love- meeting my cousins and grandparents, touring different tourist places and playing with my friends.

While writing an essay on summer vacation, your child will improve their English vocabulary and grammar. To express their views and write about their activities during holidays, they will have to learn new words and improve their sentence construction. Once they write their essay, they will grasp how to write about related activities, giving them the confidence to write compositions more easily.

Summer holidays are the favourite time for most kids. So writing an essay on summer vacation is both enjoyable and educational for them.

Essay 1 (250 Words) – This Summer I decided to Learn Dance

Introduction

I have been waiting for the summer vacation to begin ever since the new session started. I have plans to learn a particular skill of my choice, this vacation. Skill improvement is something that will help me in my future and also improve my personality.

Learning Dance

I love dancing. I also love to watch dance performances, either by professional or an immature dancer. I don’t lose an opportunity to dance; though I lack professionalism and my dance is immature. Therefore, I have decided to join a dance class during my vacation. I will join a class that has a good dance instructor and offers a convenient time.

Dance unwinds and refreshes your mind and it is also a skill that you will never forget. Once you have learned to turn your emotions into steps, you would never be depressed and unhappy; at least that is what I feel.

Learning Musical Instrument

My other infatuation after the dance is music. I have decided that I will learn a musical instrument too this summer vacation. I have still to choose between the guitar and keyboard, but I think I will go with the guitar. The sound of a guitar is enthralling and distressing if played professionally. I will learn guitar and consequently improve my skills thereon.

In my opinion, the time of summer vacation must not be wasted. One should always utilize the time for learning new things and improving skills. Skills thus learned will be there with you for the lifetime.

Essay 2 (400 Words) – This Summer I Would be Visiting my Grandparents

I have been longing for summer vacation to start. Once the exams get over and I am free from academic obligations, for a few months at least; I have already planned how I will spend my vacations. I am really excited about it and more than glad to share my plans with you.

Visiting my Grandparents

The first thing on the list in this summer vacation is visiting my grandparents. My grandparents stay in my ancestral village, where my grandfather looks after the cultivation and selling of the products. On a personal note, I am very close to my grandparents and long for their company and advice.

This vacation, on day one, I will start for my ancestral village to spend a couple of weeks with my grandparents. I had been able to visit them only during the summer vacations before and never get bored with the idea to visit again.

There is something fascinating about a village stay, that too in the company of lovely grandparents, showering you with love. The weather, the food, everything seems to improve in comparison to a city.

Meeting Old Friends

Another thing that I am excited about this summer vacation is that I would be meeting some old friends in my native village. I have plans for reviving a friendship that has been developed over years of companionship. Moreover, my friends in the village are very truthful and loyal. I will meet them, spend time with them, visit the fields, go to their home and meet their parents and whatnot.

Playing Traditional Games

Another plan that I have for this summer vacation is to play traditional village games with my village friends. Outdoor village games are more fun than pale or rather costly board games. Games like kho-kho, gilli-danda, and hide and seek have been entertaining the village children of India for centuries. I am more than excited to play these games with my friends in the village. I almost loose sense of time and could play these simple traditional games for hours. They not only make you happier but are also good for health.

My plan for this summer vacation is centered on my ancestral village, my grandparents and my village friends. I have decided that I would be spending the vacation reviving bonds of love, relationship, and friendship in my village. There is no other way to spend the summer vacation that will have me happy and more content in the end.

Essay on My Plans for Summer Vacation

Essay 3 (600 Words) – Visiting a Wildlife Reserve is My Aim This Summer

Summer vacations are the most awaited time of the year in a student’s life. After a long and laborious year, we get a couple of months of free time, when we can do whatever we want. The essay below discusses my plans for summer vacation and how I long to achieve those.

Visiting a Wildlife Reserve

As a kid, I have always been fascinated by animals and not to mention the forests. There is something so elusive about a forest that has always caught my attention. Whether it is the silence or the sound of jungle lore, I have always found that the forest enthralls me to massive proportions.

Therefore, I have decided that this summer vacation, I will visit a wildlife reserve in India. There are hundreds of wildlife reserves in India and I will discuss the options with my parents. I think we will choose a reserve that is well connected with rail and road transport. Distance doesn’t actually matter, as I love journeys.

I have so many plans in mind, once we reach the reserve. Firstly, we will choose a cottage in a resort that gives us a full view of the forest around. Sitting comfortably on a porch and staring at the open forest is a feeling that can’t be expressed in words. Next, I have plans to go on a jungle safari with my parents and click pictures of the animals we encounter. This is something that I have been longing for years.

Learning En Route the Train Journey

I love train journeys. The reasons are many; however, I will try to list the important ones. For me journey on a train is more than a journey – it is an exploration, an expedition of the kid which teaches you as well as surprises you. The longer the journey is, the more you get to learn. Let me explain – Our country is immensely diverse in terms of culture, religion, clothing habits, irrigation, etc. It is said that in India, water changes every 2 miles and on every 8 miles, the language changes as well.

Therefore, for me, train journeys are an opportunity to learn about new places, people and their life. Train passes through different villages giving you an insight into how people live, how their houses look, what they wear and what crops they cultivate in summer. There is always so much to learn, even on a train journey, if you only have the zeal and enthusiasm. I have decided that this summer vacation I will transform my train journey into a learning expedition.

Savouring Delicacies

I also love food; we all do it! It is also an important part of my summer vacation plans. Wherever I go, whether on a train or in the resort, I have decided to try something different that’s offered on the platter. I love to savor delicacies that are local to a place and reflect its food culture.

I have also planned to try new snacks on the train journey. I don’t know how many of you know that the train’s pantry serves the food that is exquisite to the destination. For example, if you are traveling to southern India, you would be served idli and dosa. Let’s see what luck holds for me this summer vacation.

Summer vacation is a long time that is my own. I have the liberty of spending it, the way I want. I have planned to spend it, in a way to make myself closer to nature, observe its beauty in landscapes and creatures. I have also decided that I will learn a new thing at every opportunity that arises.

What Are Your Plans This Summer?

What are you looking forward to when the school year ends?

essay my plans for summer

By Nicole Daniels

Note: This is our last Student Opinion question for the 2021-22 school year.

Do you have plans for this summer? Vacations? Summer camps? Hanging out with friends? Starting new projects? Does this summer mark any big transitions for you, such as moving up to high school or college or starting a summer job?

In “ Summer in the City Is Back (Again!) ,” Julia Carmel shares some recommendations for ways to spend the next few months in New York City. Even if you live somewhere else in the country — or the world — you can probably find many similar activities in your community. Here are a few things on the list:

Visit a farmers’ market. If you’re feeling adventurous, buy something you’ve never tried before. I’m planning to try a new flavor of goat cheese from Lynnhaven farm at the Grand Army Plaza Greenmarket at my next picnic in Prospect Park. If prepared food is more your speed, Korsha likes the doubles, the quintessential Trinidadian street food of flatbread and saucy stewed chickpeas, at A & A Bake and Roti Shop and at Ali’s Roti Shop in Crown Heights, as well as the jerk chicken at Peppa’s in Flatbush. Visit a new museum. I’m hoping to check out the retrospective of Raphael Montañez Ortiz at El Museo del Barrio , and the upcoming Duke Riley and Virgil Abloh exhibits at the Brooklyn Museum . Spend an afternoon finding something new. Last summer, after a trip to Chicago was canceled by inclement weather, I visited Au Cheval and learned that there is half of a squished silver bean (much like the famed one, officially known as “Cloud Gate,” by the British artist Anish Kapoor, in Chicago) nearing completion on Leonard Street in Lower Manhattan. Catch a few live music shows. Celebrate Brooklyn , Lincoln Center and the Parks Department (can you tell I love public parks?) all have their calendars up for this summer. Sports! Frankly, I do not understand baseball but Nick Bogel-Burroughs, who works on the National desk, got me into going to Brooklyn Cyclones games. I was won over: There are sometimes fireworks! There are always frozen drinks! And did I mention they celebrate Weenie Wednesdays with two-for-one hot dogs? Learn about what lives in our public parks. There are plenty of birding events , and Dodai Stewart, our Times colleague and New Yorker extraordinaire, has even signed up to work with horseshoe crabs . My mom also loves going on fungi walks led by the New York Mycological Society . Try a new hobby. There are free kayaking lessons on the Hudson River, shuffleboard courts in Gowanus and lots of free dance and workout classes scattered around the city’s parks. (I’ve always wanted to try glass blowing , as well, but I might save that for a colder season.)

Does summer break ever bring up negative emotions for you? Do you ever feel overwhelmed by the amount of unstructured time off? Or get anxious about the school year ahead? How do you cope with those feelings?

While I can't provide specific sample essays, I can give you some general tips and guidance on how to approach your summer program essay. Your essay should focus on demonstrating your passion, motivation, and fit for the program. Here are some steps to help you get started:

1. Research the program: Thoroughly familiarize yourself with the summer program to which you are applying. Make note of specific details, such as the program's goals, core values, and unique features. By understanding what the program offers and values, you can tailor your essay to show that you have a genuine interest and are the right fit.

2. Reflect on your experiences: Consider the experiences, accomplishments, and interests that make you a strong candidate for the summer program. Think about how those experiences align with the program's aims. Be prepared to provide concrete examples of your achievements, whether it's serving in a leadership role, volunteering, or participating in relevant extracurricular activities.

3. Tell your story: Write a compelling narrative that showcases who you are and what you bring to the table. "Boring" Summer Plans

By: Christopher-James Llego '17

Last night, as I was eating my salad bowl of spinach and baby carrots (and loathing my friends who were on their cheat days), a thought went through my mind: my summer plans stink. I hadn’t really thought much about my summer plans—and if I did, it usually wasn’t in such a negative way—but after hearing about Friend A’s internship in New York City, Friend B’s plans to backpack through Europe, and Friend C’s plane tickets to XYZ LOCATION (I kind of zoned out at this point), I really got to thinking about how utterly boring my summer would end up being. To be fair, I might just be exaggerating, though Cornell students seem to have a peculiar habit of “doing the most.” So here’s my attempt at trying to look on the bright side: this summer, I’ll be conducting research for my honors thesis on Global Horror Cinema and Transnational Feminism, studying for the Graduate Record Exam (GRE) and contemplating graduate programs in Comparative Literature or Asian Studies or English (so many options!) and fulfilling an Arts & Sciences distribution requirement.

Within Arts & Sciences, seniors on the honors track (i.e. those with a high enough in-major and overall GPA) have the opportunity to write a ~50 page thesis on any topic that interests them. I have a weird obsession with cult classic horror films, foreign languages, film and media theory, and feminism, so I decided to combine my eccentricities and start a project examining the “Final Girl” Teen Slasher trope and its various permutations, as well as its variations across foreign film movements like the New French Extremity, Giallo all’italiana, and Tagalog Aswang films. Nifty, huh? I like it. In fact, I like it enough to have spent my past year watching and re-watching over 300 horror films—and will spend this summer and all of next year watching hundreds more.

And why am I doing all of that, you ask? To fulfill a deep-seated desire to validate my obsessions, to find the feminism in a misunderstood cinematic genre, and to practice for what will most likely be several more years of research. Yes, graduate school! This summer, I’ll be self-studying for the GRE. Locked away in a small apartment sublet with blank walls and piles of GRE prep books and card sets, I’ll be cramming for an exam that will decide my FUTURE (sounds familiar, doesn’t it?). Such a scary thought. Will I get into graduate school? Which field will I pursue? What will I do with my life? Well, the answer sort of depends on whether or not I can graduate first. And so, we come to the last part of my summer: an online course on Human Evolution. Arts & Sciences has a few distribution requirements, which allow students to choose courses in fields that they normally wouldn’t pursue. I discovered my Gender Studies major through the Cultural Analysis requirement and Comparative Literature through both the Foreign Language and Literature & the Arts requirements. Unfortunately for me, I have a knack for procrastinating and have avoided any math or science courses these past three years. So now, I’m finding ways to fulfill these requirements during my breaks.

Cornell is awesome in that it offers Physical & Biological Sciences courses that aren’t as intensive as, say, Organic Chemistry. In other words: non-science-minded students need not be afraid of the distribution requirements! Also, pro tip: don’t wait until the last minute (senior year) to start taking these courses! So yes, I may not be backpacking through Europe, but at least I’ll get to do something that I love: conduct research. And hey, thanks to Cornell’s dedication to providing students with online courses, I’ll get to spend my summer blasting my A.C. and avoiding the blistering heat that I’m so unaccustomed to as a Cornellian.

5 Last-Minute Summer Plans That Will Impress Ivy League Admissions Officers

As summer approaches, high school students may find themselves scrambling to find ways to make the most of their time off of school. Whether they were not accepted into their top choice programs, their internships fell through, or they simply haven’t yet made a plan, it’s imperative that students find enriching ways to spend their summers. Colleges look to students’ summer activities as a means of better understanding their passions and interests, and determining the kind of community members they will be outside of the classroom.

For those with Ivy League dreams, the pressure to maximize summers to stand out in the college admissions process can feel particularly daunting. While the deadlines for prestigious academic summer programs have passed, it’s not too late to engage in meaningful summer activities that will impress Ivy League admissions officers. While many students assume that admissions committees at top schools only care about intellectual pursuits, students can convey important elements of their candidacy through a plethora of summer plans, whether academic or non-academic.

If you are still unsure of how you’ll be spending the summer months, here are five last-minute summer plans that can help you demonstrate your passion, initiative, and commitment to personal and academic growth:

1. Secure an internship.

While securing a summer internship can be challenging, it can pave the way for the rest of a student’s professional and academic journey. If you have connections with local professionals, leveraging your network to find an internship opportunity can enhance your resume, help to build your professional network, and demonstrate initiative to colleges on your list. If you choose to intern during the summer months, you can maximize your time by demonstrating your willingness to go above and beyond; take the initiative to expand your skill set and explore areas outside of your designated responsibilities. You may find a new passion or outlet for your interests in the process.

2. Get a summer job.

While many students assume colleges are uninterested in their summer jobs, with the proper strategy, thoughtfulness, and hard work, students can leverage their summer jobs to stand out to Ivy League admissions officers. Whether you’re working as a lifeguard, camp counselor, dog walker, or administrative assistant at a law office, every job offers the opportunity to demonstrate self-motivation and leadership. Stepping up in the workplace not only allows students to develop critical life skills that will carry them into their college careers, but it can also highlight students’ willingness to contribute to their communities.

For students seeking a job or internship, sites such as LinkedIn , AngelList , and Idealist are fantastic online resources for sourcing opportunities in their interest area, location, and schedule constraints.

3. Take an online course.

Enrolling in an online course or certification program allows students to enrich their knowledge, skills, and expertise in a specific area of interest—whether it's computer science, finance, environmental science, or creative writing, among others. Platforms such as Coursera , edX , and Udemy offer a wide range of courses taught by leading experts and institutions from around the world. Select courses that align with your academic interests, intended major, or core passion, and dedicate yourself to mastering the material. Completing an online course or earning a certification demonstrates self-motivation, intellectual curiosity, and a commitment to lifelong learning—qualities highly valued by Ivy League admissions officers.

4. Volunteer in your community.

Ivy League admissions committees seek to identify students who are plugged in to issues in their community and willing to mobilize their passions to make positive change. One of the best ways to demonstrate this quality is to use your free time during the summer to volunteer. For example, you could consider volunteering at a local soup kitchen, homeless shelter, or food bank to help address food insecurity and support vulnerable populations in your community. While any type of volunteering will be beneficial for both your growth and those in need around you, it is best to identify a volunteering opportunity that aligns with your skills and interests and that you can engage with long-term throughout your high school career. By volunteering your time and energy to support those in need, you can make a tangible impact on your community while developing empathy, compassion, and a sense of social responsibility.

5. Develop your passion project.

Perhaps the most beneficial use of the summer months is brainstorming and building a dynamic passion project, a student-led initiative that puts passion into practice. Whether environmental conservation, mental health awareness, animal welfare, or technological literacy, students should be intentional about identifying their guiding interest and developing an independent project to more deeply engage with their subject or cause of choice. This could involve organizing a fundraising event, creating educational materials, or launching a social media campaign to raise awareness and mobilize support. By channeling your interests and talents into a passion project, you can make a meaningful contribution to your community while gaining greater insight into your core passions and interests.

Whatever students choose to do with their summer, they should keep in mind that all of their activities should work in tandem to tell a cohesive story through their college applications. Whether completing an internship, working a summer job, or taking a summer course, put your best foot forward and approach the process with self-reflection, motivation, and intentionality.
