The mission of the Masters in Speech-Language Pathology program at USAHS is to graduate clinicians who can identify and manage a full range of communication conditions across the life span. They will be prepared to guide, lead, and influence their profession.
Note: Some states require an additional certification or license in order to work in a school setting. Students should be advised that the USAHS MS-SLP program is designed and intended to prepare graduates for SLP licensure in many states. However, graduates may need to complete additional requirements to be eligible for a license or certificate to work in a school setting or to have the ability to complete practicum in a school setting in his/her particular state of residence or school district, depending on the state and/or school district’s unique requirements. Students should contact the state board of education or his or her school district directly to determine if the USAHS MS-SLP program meets the requirements for state SLP certification or licensure in a school setting.

Speech@NYU is the online SLP master’s program offered by the Department of Communicative Sciences and Disorders. It is designed for aspiring speech-language pathologists who want the flexibility to pursue fulfilling careers in a variety of settings.
The online modality of the SLP master’s program is accredited by the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) and prepares you to work toward speech-language pathology certification. In the speech-language pathology program, you are assigned a dedicated placement specialist who will work with you to find NYU Steinhardt faculty-approved clinical field placement sites in or near your community.
With Speech@NYU, you will receive the in-depth training to provide forward-thinking, culturally competent care to clients of all ages without having to relocate.
As a student, you will complete a five-part sequence of on-campus clinical practicum and clinical field placement experiences at your placement site.

You have the flexibility to pursue your SLP graduate degree full time or part time based on your scheduling needs . You can earn your master’s in speech-language pathology in as few as six or seven terms attending full time, or set a slower pace by attending part time until your field placement begins.

Students complete core leveling (BA-level) courses in Speech, Language and Hearing Sciences (SLHS) in this online, non-degree program. Students complete 8 courses (24 credits) in 4 semesters (summer, fall, spring, summer), enabling them to apply for Speech-Language Pathology Assistant (SLPA) certificate programs and/or Master’s programs in Speech-Language Pathology.

Applicants/Admissions Applicants must hold a Bachelor’s degree, have a minimum 2.8 GPA, and complete all application requirements. Applications must include: 1. SLPP Program application 2. Transcripts (unofficial) from each college or university attended
The application deadline is March 1st for the cohort that begins the following summer. Preference may be given to qualified candidates from rural or high needs areas in Colorado with a letter of support from their district or BOCES Director.
Program Cost The SLPP courses are offered through Continuing Education. The tuition rate is the same for in-state and out-of-state students. The current tuition for each 3-credit course is $1,140 ($380 per credit) so the cost of the entire program is approximately $9,120 for in-state or out-of-state students (without textbooks or potential materials costs). Tuition rates are subject to increase.
Financial Aid Students enrolled in the SLPP program are eligible to apply for the limited federal aid (loans only for a maximum of three semesters in a 12-month period) available to students who are not formally admitted to a degree program. Students from BOCES, high-needs, inner-city and rural districts are encouraged to talk with district personnel about financial support to complete the program.
Prerequisite Requirements Students have used the SLPP coursework to gain entrance to a wide range of programs, both in and out of state. However, students should verify with their intended program of study to ensure that the SLPP courses meet their requirements. Completion of the SLPP program does not guarantee acceptance into CU’s MA-SLP program, which is a competitive process each year.
SLPP Course Alternatives SLPP undergraduate courses are offered at CU, and are available to non-SLHS students through the ACCESS program . In Calvin University’s online Master of Arts in Speech-Language Pathology program, you’ll gain clinical hours with our expert clinical faculty, practice providing care for patients, and study the causes and treatment of communication disorders — all with the supporting framework of the Christian faith.

No, the MA in Speech-Language Pathology program is a full-time program. However, the MA can be completed in a 2-year or 3-year track. The 2-year track is accelerated and students generally take 2 didactic courses plus a clinic course in each 8-week block. The 3-year track is still considered full-time, but students only take one didactic course per 8-week block the first year, and one didactic course plus a clinic course per 8-week block in the second year and third years. No, the program does not include any concentrations, specializations, or tracks. Online Baylor CSD students learn from live instructors in the evening and spend their daily hours at placement sites, completing a minimum of 400 clinical hours.
The 45-credit online CSD graduate program can be completed in five trimesters (full time) or seven to 11 trimesters (part time). As part of the program, you will be required to complete three clinical practica and a clinical internship. Upon graduation, you will be prepared to assess, diagnose, and treat communication and swallowing disorders in children and adults with innovative clinical work and evidence-based practice.
The courses that make up the program’s curriculum integrate academic, research, and clinical experiences. As a student in the online CSD graduate program, you will be exposed to current theories, principles, cutting-edge technologies, research methods, and practices. As an online CSD graduate student, you will attend live online classes each week, facilitating face-to-face interactions with your professors and peers.
In addition to the leveling and graduate coursework, you will be required to have passed the four sciences required by ASHA for certification: biology, chemistry or physics, social/behavioral, and statistics. It is recommended that these courses be completed prior to starting the program, if at all possible.
The curriculum includes clinical experiences, providing ongoing, real-world experience and valuable networking opportunities. Students complete at least 400 clinical clock hours across one internship and three practica for nine credit hours in total. Each practicum counts as one credit hour and involves a weekly commitment of 24-36 hours. The internship counts as five credits and involves a weekly commitment of 35-40 hours.
Hold a CSD bachelor’s degree or have completed required post-baccalaureate work in the speech field within the last five years.
Hold a bachelor’s degree in a non-CSD major and have not completed introductory courses in speech, language, and hearing; these applicants must complete leveling courses (available through the Baylor program) before starting graduate coursework.
Robbins College of Health and Human Sciences maintains the same admissions standards for the SLP master’s online as it does for the on-campus program. In order to apply, students must hold a bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited college or university. An undergraduate GPA of 3.4 or higher is preferred. In the UK, the title speech and language therapist is protected, so you must complete a registered, accredited degree-level course to practise as a speech and language therapist. This can be at university or as part of an apprenticeship .
University-based degree level courses can be completed at either undergraduate (BSc hons) level or postgraduate (PGDip or MSc) level.
The main differences and requirements for each are:
Undergraduate courses take between three and four years to complete depending on the university chosen.
Postgraduate courses usually take about two years to complete.
On successful completion, you’ll be able to apply to the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) to register to practise as an SLT in the UK and to use the protected title.

Practice based learning opportunities are an integral part of pre-registration training. Each learner must achieve at least 150 sessions of practice-based learning throughout their course. One session is equivalent to half a day. Placements are either concurrent (you attend for 1-2 days per week over a period of several weeks with the remaining weekdays in university) or block (usually 3-5 days per week over a period of several weeks). Students who have taken out a student loan are able to access another loan to study these courses. This is not the standard postgraduate student loan but the loan accessed by undergraduate students to cover tuition fees and support living costs.
In December 2019, the Government announced that, in addition to existing student support, from September 2020 students studying the nursing, midwifery and allied health subjects will receive a non-repayable and non-means tested grant of at least £5,000 a year.

Individuals who enter the graduate program with all prerequisite coursework can complete the graduate program in five semesters, full-time (Fall, Spring, Summer, Fall, Spring). Individual programs for all students are designed to meet the requirements for certification in speech-language pathology by the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA), Connecticut licensure, and special endorsement in speech-language pathology for Connecticut public schools. The Graduate Program Coordinator will review students’ prior coursework to confirm that all prerequisite courses have been completed and meet with students to plan their program. Students must maintain an overall and departmental GPA of 3.0 to remain in the program. A “B-” or higher must be achieved in all academic courses and clinical practica.

Speech-language pathologists who work in Connecticut public schools must have school certification (Special Endorsement in Speech-Language Pathology). Although not required for admission to the graduate program, prospective students are strongly encouraged to complete the following coursework requirements prior to the beginning of their graduate studies. Once enrolled, the College of Education Certification Officer will review transcripts and communicate which course requirement(s) needs to be completed. The Graduate Program Coordinator can assist in locating courses as indicated by the Certification Office.
As part of the Graduate School at Southern Connecticut State University, the Department of Communication Disorders offers a program leading to the Master of Science Degree in Speech-Language Pathology.
Applicants must meet the admissions requirements of the Graduate School and the Department of Communication Disorders. A cumulative undergraduate degree GPA of 3.0 or higher is required for admission to the Graduate School. In order to be considered for admission, you must have either a Bachelor's Degree in CMD or have completed both ASHA Pre-Requisite Coursework and Pre-Professional Coursework for the SCSU CMD Graduate Program.

In order to apply to our program, you must complete applications in both the Communication Sciences and Disorders Centralized Application (CSDCAS) and Southern Connecticut State University's Graduate Application Portal . It is the responsibility of the applicant to make sure ALL required documents have been received in both CSDCAS and the Graduate Application Portal by the January 15th deadline. Applications not completed by the deadline will not be reviewed by the Admissions Committee.
GRE scores are NOT a requirement of the admissions process. However, standardized test scores (SAT, ACT, GRE, or PraxisCore) must be submitted to the SCSU Graduate Application Portal in order to meet the CT State Department of Education Teacher Certification requirements.

Admissions decisions are made on a competitive basis. By April 1, letters are mailed to applicants indicating that they have been accepted, wait-listed or denied acceptance to the program. Accepted students have two weeks to reply before their admission status will be revoked. Letters of acceptance or rejection will then be mailed to wait-listed applicants.
All students accepted to the Communication Disorders Program must subsequently be formally admitted by the Office of Graduate Admissions and the School of Education upon final review of transcripts and application materials in order to finalize the admissions process. Admitted students will meet with the Graduate Program Director at the time of program planning during the spring or summer following acceptance into the program. Accepted students begin their studies in the fall semester.
Do I need to have an undergraduate degree in Communication Disorders in order to apply to the Master's Program? You must either have an undergraduate degree in Communication Disorders or have completed both ASHA Pre-Requisite Coursework and Pre-Professional Coursework listed on for the SCSU CMD graduate program outlined here . Please note: Federal financial aid may not be awarded for undergraduate courses taken while enrolled as a graduate student.
Do I need to submit GRE scores as part of the application process? No, GRE scores are not required, however, submission of standardized test scores is necessary for the Connecticut State Department of Education requirements for school certification. In order to meet this requirement for admission, standardized scores from the GRE, PRAXIS Core, ACT, or SAT must be submitted as part of the application process to the Graduate School Application. Scores do not have an expiration date for this requirement.
Do I need to submit the PRAXIS® Core, formerly PRAXIS® I, SAT or ACT scores? No, however, submission of standardized test scores is necessary for the Connecticut State Department of Education requirements for Special Services Endorsement. All students complete clinical placements in a public school system, so all students must meet the University's requirements for school certification. Standardized scores from the GRE, PRAXIS Core, ACT, or SAT are acceptable. Scores do not have an expiration date for this requirement.
Is there a minimum undergraduate GPA required in order to be considered in the admissions process? The minimum undergraduate cumulative GPA to be considered is 3.0, however, the average cumulative GPA of the incoming class is often higher than 3.5.
Is the Master’s Program in Speech Pathology a full-time program? The Graduate Program in the SCSU Department of Communication Disorders is a full-time program and requires students to take a minimum of 9 – 12 credits per semester to successfully complete all 63 – 66 required credits within 5 semesters. Students enrolling in our program will want to be aware of the time and effort required to successfully engage in the academic and clinical experiences. Yes. We travel to school districts, universities, and conferences almost monthly presenting tailored speech pathology courses. These presentations can be half day, full day, in person, or via zoom. When are ceu courses reported to asha will i receive credit for the correct date that i took the course.
Reporting is done monthly. ASHA CE Providers have up to 45 days from the course’s end date to report your course completion. Once ASHA CE receives the reporting, processing time usually takes one week. During periods of heavy volume, processing time on their end may be longer.
Therefore, you may not see your course on the ASHA transcript immediately after completion. Your completion certificate accurately shows the date that you completed the course.
Although the courses are reported quarterly, the CEU credit on your transcript will reflect the month in which you took the course.
I took a course before but have lost the certificate, can I get another one?
Yes, records are kept for three years. Contact us directly and provide your name, the name of the course and the date that you took the course. We will produce a new certificate for you and email it for free.
This is super confusing for most of us but here’s how it works. Within a 3 year cycle an SLP needs 30 hours of continuing education or basically 10 aSHA CEUs per year. So one hour equals .1 CEU. Your certificate needs to say the correct decimal amount but it is easier to convert ASHA CEUs to hours for your records to know where you stand.

How to Calculate the number of ASHA CEUs
ASHA approved CE providers must meet stringent standards set by ASHA’s Continuing Education Board. Only activities offering ASHA CEUs can be posted on your registry transcript. There are other types of Speech Pathology CEUs and credits in the marketplace. For example, some states offer speech therapy CEUs which meet their requirements but they have not submitted to meet ASHA CEUs requirements for maintaining your CCCs .
ASHA only regulates ASHA approved CEU courses and does not regulate other types of credit. We advise you to contact your state licensing board to see what other types of credit are acceptable toward your licensure requirements.
If your state recognizes ASHA CEUs (which, to our knowledge, all of them do) then our courses can be used for maintenance of state licensure.

First, please check your SPAM folder. The CEU certificate is generated as a .pdf file and some mail servers first treat it as spam. Additionally, your progress is always saved on your My Account page which you can access from the top menu and reprint your speech CEUs certificate at any time.
If you still cannot find your certificate, please email [email protected] with your name, course title, date you took the course and we will be happy to send it to you.
Upon completion of a course, the certificate of completion can immediately be downloaded and is also emailed to you as a .pdf document.
You must provide your ASHA number in order to receive credit for any courses taken. You can check to make sure your ASHA number is correct and entered on your My Account page on the top menu.

The field of speech therapy focusses on the assessment and treatment of speech and language disorders. It is a valued and highly rewarding career path that involves a lot of client communication, creating personalised treatment plans and implementing therapeutic interventions. The role often involves collaborating with other healthcare professionals, educators and family members and the results have a huge impact on the client’s wellbeing, as well as the wellbeing of their families.
There are 16 universities in the UK which offer this course and 21 different courses among them. This is due to the various specialisms available at master’s degree level, such as forensic speed science, developmental psychology and language and acquired communication disorders. An upper second-class honours undergraduate degree is usually required to gain entry to a course.
A speech therapy master’s degree covers areas such as phonetics, language development, language pathology and bilingualism. Other areas of specialism include developmental and acquired speech, language and communication disorders, fluency disorders, aphasia, dementia and autism spectrum disorders. Expect a considerable amount of clinical practice, allowing you to build relationships with clients and build their confidence. Treatment is often a gradual process and consistency is important. Assessment methods can include supervised clinical placements, examinations and written essays on subjects of your choosing.

The MSc in Speech and Language Therapy (Professional Qualification) is offered over two years full-time as a route to qualification for professional practice for applicants who have already attained an honours degree.
The MSc in SLT (professional qualification) programme is approved by CORU, the healthcare regulatory body of Ireland. The MSc in SLT (professional qualification) programme is accredited by the Irish Association of Speech and Language Therapists, the professional body for SLTs in Ireland.
Programme Specific Frequently Asked Questions
The Master of Science degree is undertaken through an intensive programme of full-time study involving academic and placement modules over two years including summer study periods. Placement components form a cornerstone of studies in Speech and Language Therapy.

Minimum of a second class honours primary degree (2.2) (Level 8 National Qualifications Authority of Ireland) or a postgraduate degree (Level 9 National Qualifications Authority of Ireland). The type of previous undergraduate degree awarded is not a limiting factor in terms of eligibility.
Candidates may apply to this programme in the final semester of an undergraduate programme and must produce evidence that all requirements for postgraduate study are met by the end of June in the year that the programme commences.
For candidates who meet this requirement, the HPAT (Health Professions Admission Test-Ireland) will be used as the sole instrument to select students for this programme.
Candidates applying to the MSc (Professional Qualification) In Speech and Language Therapy in UL must register for HPAT-Ireland + Written Component (Registration fee €160). This exam will take place on one date only in a number of different centres around Ireland.

The Masters in Science in speech and language therapy requires higher level English proficiency standards as set by the regulatory body CORU. The requirements include: IELTS Academic Overall score 8.0 (no element below 7.5), or Minimum of Grade C (Minimum Score of 185) on the Cambridge CEFR C1 Test, or Occupational English Test OET (Speech Pathology) A minimum of grade A (400) in three components and B (350) in one component (listening, reading, writing and speaking).

As a speech-language therapist you’ll facilitate independence in individuals. You’ll assess children, young people and adults with a variety of communication and swallowing disorders and work with them to improve their ability to participate in school, work and other daily activities. You may work with children who have speech and/or language disorders, or adults living with a traumatic brain injury or stroke.

To enter the Bachelor of Speech and Language Therapy you will have achieved an IELTS of 7.0 with no band less than 7.0 within the preceding two years if English is not your first language. You must attach a verified copy of your results to your application.
Personal supporting statement.
In standard written English, explain why you chose this programme of study. List any personal characteristics you have that might strengthen your application.
We require two people who can act as referees for you and who are able to provide informed responses on your personal suitability for the programme. A referee should be someone who has known you for one year or more in the capacity of employer, educator, work colleague or person of community standing, ie kaumātua, minister or similar. Your referee should not be a friend, flatmate, relative or someone who has not known you for at least a year. The information your referee supplies is confidential to those involved in the selection process.
Please provide a full employment history, as appropriate for your life situation, please include brief details on recent formal and/or informal experiences and/or involvement in the following areas:
Once you have accepted the offer of a place in the selected entry programme, you will be enrolled for the first year of study as outlined in the Letter of Offer. Once you have been granted entrance and admission to the University your enrolment will be confirmed.
If you complete this qualification within the stated time limit, you will normally be able to graduate with a class of Honours.

There are maximum time limits to complete some undergraduate and all postgraduate qualifications. If you do not complete within the maximum time, you may be required to re-apply for the qualification if you wish to continue your studies.

The Bachelor of Speech and Language Therapy is a parts-based qualification. That means you must complete the first part, before moving to the second etc.
If you study full-time, you’ll take 120 credits per year or 60 credits per semester.
For progression to Part 4 of Bachelor of Speech Language Therapy with Honours, you must have maintained at least a B+ grade average in the Part 3 courses.
If you do not meet the progression criteria, or do not wish to study the Part 4 Honours courses, you will be able to enrol in an alternative Part 4. Upon completion, you will graduate with the Bachelor of Speech Language Therapy – without Honours. Whether you complete the degree with or without honours, graduates from the programme are eligible for New Zealand Speech-language Therapists' Association registration.
A part-time option is available for this programme with the requirement of completion in a maximum of 8 years. Consult with the programme team to ensure your part-time plan meets the programme progression needs.
The BSLT(Hons) is taught via distance learning.
You must show a satisfactory level of performance in clinical practica and achieve the level of competency required for practicing as a speech-language therapist in New Zealand. You will be required to complete work integrated learning experiences within the community. You are responsible for all of the costs associated with being on clinical placements (eg travel, accommodation, required health screening).

Your placements
We adopt a mixed placement model, which means that you'll have the opportunity to experience ongoing and block placements. An ongoing placement means that you are on placement one day per week, whilst in university the remaining days. On a block placement, you’ll spend all week on placement, with no lectures during these periods. You’ll be required to travel to placements independently and these will be located throughout the Yorkshire and Humberside region.
You'll undertake ongoing and block work placements in all three years of your course. You'll also be able to make the most of course-related opportunities such as campaigning and raising awareness of people with communication difficulties, getting involved in the speech and language therapy society and volunteering in the UK and abroad. You’ll gain a wide range of clinical experiences with both children and adults.

We will evaluate your personal statement in relation to your research into the SLT profession, experience relating to relevant client groups and evidence of interpersonal and teamwork skills. You may wish to include information such as how you have researched the SLT profession and a career in SLT, examples of how you have worked with relevant client groups or in related settings, how you have gained insight into the course (e.g. open days), your personal qualities which you feel are related to SLT, including what motivates you to choose SLT as a career.

Independent study is a crucial part of learning at university and you will be required to undertake many hours of self-directed research and reading, and preparation and writing of assessments. Your course is delivered through a number of modules, which will help you to plan your time and establish a study routine. Outside of your lectures, workshops and tutorials, a range of support is available to assist with your independent study. In many cases, costs associated with your course will be included in your course fee. However, in some cases there are ‘essential’ additional costs (those that you will be required to meet in addition to your course fee), and/or ‘optional’ additional costs (costs that are not required, but that you might choose to pay). Other study-related expenses to consider: materials that you will need to complete your course such as books (whilst the library provides access to readings recommended for your modules, you may wish to purchase your own copies of some books); you can also make suggestions for books to be added to Library stock; placement costs (these may include travel expenses and living costs); student visas (international students only); printing, photocopying and stationery (you may need to pay for multiple copies of your dissertation or final project to be printed and bound); events associated with your course such as field trips; study abroad opportunities (travel costs and accommodation, visas and immunisations). As well as your mobile phone, you will also need access to a desktop computer and/or laptop to complete assignments and access university online services such as MyBeckett, your virtual learning environment. You can book and borrow AV equipment through the media equipment service accessed online via the student hub and located in the library at each campus. Equipment includes: 360 Cameras, iPads, GoPros, MacBooks, portable data projectors, portable projection screens, flipchart stands, remote presenters, digital cameras and camcorders, SLR cameras, speakers, microphones, headphones, headsets, tripods, digital audio recorders and PC/laptops (a laptop loans service is provided on campus in the library on both campuses). Student laptops are also available from the laptop lockers located in the libraries.

The strong clinical focus of the course will help you make the transition to clinical practice. Indeed, the majority of our students find work in either speech and language therapy or a related field within 12 months of graduating. As a newly qualified speech and language therapist, you might be employed by the NHS and may work in a range of settings including hospitals, community clinics or education. Some therapists also work in the criminal justice system and others are in private practice.
