My last birthday was the most memorable birthday till date. It was 18 th August 2013, when I was going to be 19 years old.

That was a very special day as it was my birthday. I woke up early at 6:30 am because my family sang a special song for me & they gave me some gifts. Also I was hugged by all of them.

We do it for every member of our house. Then my cousins Sheena & Arun arrived to my house to surprise me. Their presence made my day more special because it was my first birthday when my cousins managed to come and wish me early in the morning. They gifted me a big box full of chocolates & CD of my favourite singer.

All of us had breakfast together. Mom made my favourite breakfast called “upma” because it was my birthday. Dad bought a big cake for me. I cut the cake. Then I started receiving calls from relatives and friends. They made me realize that now I am a big girl.

I am 18 years old now. I can drive, vote etc. It made my day more exciting. Suddenly I realized that Henna my best friend forgot to wish me on my birthday. It made me sad. But I decided not to remind her let’s see when she calls up.

At 6 pm I was out with my family to celebrate the occasion. I received a message on my mobile. That was Heena. Finally she wished me and told me that she has a surprise for me on my birthday. I told her that I thought that she has forgotten to wish me on my birthday. She said that she knew it was my birthday but she was busy planning the surprise. Henna wanted me to come to her house. She told me that she is going to pick me up at 8:30 pm. I asked my parents. They said ok. Henna came after 1 and ½ hour to pick me up in a beautiful car. When I reached her house she opened the door. As soon as we entered all my friends were inside with many ballons, flowers.

They all shouted loud in a chorus- “Happy Birthday Vere”. All hugged me one by one and gave me gifts and roses. Then all of them sang my favorite song. I cut the cake which they bought. We danced, had food that Heena arranged for all of us and enjoyed a lot. I can never forget that birthday because it was the best birthday of my life and my friends and family made me realized that I am a big girl of 18 now.

COMPOSITION: My Last Birthday

Every person was born on a day. A person’s birthday comes only once in a year. I was born on 1 st of January, 2000 and usually celebrate my birthday every January. Last year was not different. My parents supported me with all I needed for the day and arranged a party for my friends.

Before the day, my father helped me to make invitation cards and also filled them with my friend’s names. A day to my day, my mother took me to the market and bought balloons, ribbons, masks, caps, etc. to decorate the house with. We ordered the cake and bought wrapping paper. When we returned home we sat down to work. We got the venue decorated for the day.

On my birthday, mother woke up very early. She started cooking. She prepared jollof rice and chicken for all my friends.

My father was also busy arranging musical gadgets and chairs. He also arranged some games like follow the leader, Dumb Charades, Passing the Parcel and so on. At 2 o’clock in the afternoon as planned, my friends started arriving. They all enjoyed themselves.

My friends are very kind – hearted, they presented me several gifts. I was drowned in gifts after they had all left. I went to bed that day satisfied and very happy. It was the best birthday pasrty I have ever had!

I will never forget my last birthday. It was on February 2 2013, when I was going to be 13 years old. That day was very special and the best birthday that I have had, because there were many things that made my last birthday important for me.

That day I woke up at 6:00 am, because my parents sang me a special song and they gave me some presents, also my siblings and my parents gave me many hugs, then my cousin Diane arrived to my house and she gave me a box of chocolates and a CD of my favorite rapper, it was the most beautiful present and for this reason I was very happy that morning.

Well in the afternoon many of my friends called me and told me “CONGRATULATIONS! You are old, now you can go out, have fun and you can do many things that before you could not do”. These words made me very happy, because now I could go out with my friends and I could arrive late to my house. But I was a little sad, because my best friend did not call me and I thought that she had forgotten my birthday.

After at 6:00 pm I was with my parents when I received a message, that was from my best friend Siani and she told me “I have a surprise for you, I want to know if you can come to my house”, and I told her “of course, I thought that you had forgotten my birthday”, and she said “Did you believe it?, How? If you know that you are my best friend and for this reason I want that you come to my house”, I told her “yes, I will go, at what time? And she told me “at 8:00 pm I will pick you up, see you!, and I said “ok bye”.

My last birthday

Birthday is a funny occasion with everybody. It has many ways to celebrate our birthday. We can hold party, go out with friends or family. I had 19 birthdays beside my friends and my family. I often hold small, simple and warm parties. I remember them because they are best memories in my life. Until now, the birthday that make me fell unforgetable is my 19th birthday. It was held last May. It was a special birthday because it was the first birthday that I live far from my family. In that afternoon, I went out with my best classmates. We ate ice-cream, "xèo" cake, and some delecious food. We chatted togerther about many interesting things. We laughed a lot. Ofcourse, we took many photos to make memory. They are really good friends. I am so lucky when I meet them, study with them and become friend with them. Although they are all my new friends at university, they are so kind and friendly. I remembered that they gave me a beautiful T-shirt and a card. I love them. Besides, I was received many wonderful wishes from my parents and other friends. My dad texted a phone message to me. He said congratulation and hoped I am always heathy, beautiful and study well. Then my mom phoned to me. She said the same my dad and asked me how I hold my birthday. I thanked my parents and I wished they can come there with me. It was more meaningful. I felt so moved and happy at that moment. In the evening, I had a small party with my friends in my dorm. They sang birthday'song very loudly. We also ate food, drank Fansta and listened to music. That was all our favourite songs. My room was so excited and noisy. We chatted until midnight. We cleaned the room and the party finished. Although I felt a bit homesick, it didn't matter. I always have my family and my friends by my side. It's enough. That was really a meaningful birthday and I was so greatful.

I remember how cold it was on my last birthday. All my friends had come over and we had a large gathering. We played many games like ‘passing the parcel’ and ‘musical chairs’. Mohit played two songs on his guitar. I received many nice gifts on that day.

It was a different world when Alexa Chung rose to sartorial power.

She wore high-neck blouses with flat pointy shoes. She wore black tights under denim shorts. In paparazzi photos, holding hands with her indie rock boyfriend, she wore peacoats over minidresses. So we — women around her age, give or take five years — wore peacoats over minidresses, too.

The year was 2009, and “influencer” and “creator” were not yet jobs. Ms. Chung, then 26, was an MTV host during the final era of that being the coolest job on the planet.

On a sticky afternoon this summer, inside a dark bar on Avenue B in Manhattan, I asked Ms. Chung, now 40, how she defined her job these days.

“It’s so hard, isn’t it?” Ms. Chung said. “I guess designer.”

She had recently asked the 12-year-old daughter of her partner (the actor Tom Sturridge) what she thought she did. “You’re a writer,” the girl replied. That’s also true enough; Ms. Chung contributes sporadic essays to The Financial Times. In 2013, she released a pink coffee-table book, “It,” during a particularly active time in her social life.

“My editor at the time had to come to the East Village and literally trap me in the apartment to finish it,” she said. Friends buzzing at her door were turned away. Parts of the book were drafted on bar napkins. “I had a panic attack at the book launch because I was like, ‘I don’t even know if this really represents me, and I feel really weird about it.’”
