Classroom Observation Teaching (COT) is an essential part of quality assurance in the education sectors especially in the Department of Education. This process ensures the competitiveness of our teachers and address the unseen shortcomings in the implementation of the K-12 Basic Education Curriculum. Classroom Observation consists of 3 vital stages, pre-COT conference, actual classroom observation and post-COT conference. At all times, rater and ratee must have clear communication regarding the preparation and implementation of this classroom observation. However, preparing for COT, for some teachers, are not too easy and might need technical assistance. General Guideline for Classroom Observation

All classroom observations for performance evaluation purposes shall be scheduled in advance. The Ratee must be informed of the schedule at least three (3) working days before the classroom observation. See Also: Daily Lesson Log (DLL) for School Year 2023-2024

In case unforeseen circumstances and fortuitous events that are outside the control of the schools (such as natural or man-made calamities or disasters, lockdowns, etc.), concerned schools may be allowed to deviate from the prescribed timeline of conducting classroom observations; provided that requests in relation thereto shall be subject for approval of the Schools Division Superintendent; provided further, that all applicable classroom observation modes are exhausted prior to submitting the request.

The average rating of the classroom observations done across quarters shall constitute the final rating for each COI. Additional classroom observations may be conducted for purposes of technical assistance to teachers to improve their teaching practice. However, classroom observations conducted for technical assistance purposes will not be a factor in the determination of a Ratee’s performance rating. The purpose or objective of the observation shall be clearly stated prior to any scheduled classroom observation.

Grade 1 PowerPoint Presentations – 4th Quarter | Compilation

Teachers have two main methods of presenting knowledge to their students: deductive and inductive. Deductive teaching involves directly presenting fundamental concepts and expert knowledge to students, motivating them to make predictions. On the other hand, inductive teaching encourages students to discover knowledge through reading or experimentation before making predictions . In this article, you will find our compiled Grade 1 PowerPoint Presentations – 4th Quarter.

Research has shown that while both methods can be effective, deductive teaching tends to lead to better exam results, while inductive teaching results in students who are more motivated to learn and have more positive attitudes. When using a deductive approach, teachers can transmit important facts by reading selected passages from a non-fiction book or providing key elements related to the concept being studied on the chalkboard, an overhead transparency, or via PowerPoint.

Interactive lecturing, or a participatory lecture interrupted by questions and brief student debates, is another method that teachers can use to present information deductively. In this method, teachers ask simple and complex questions, instructing students to “Think, Pair, Share” for a brief period before asking for solutions. This approach encourages student engagement and critical thinking.

After presenting material, teachers should follow up with lower and higher-level questions. Lower-level questions test students’ ability to memorize and describe factual information, while higher-level questions challenge them to consider different scenarios and think critically. When there is no clear solution, true thinking occurs.

In conclusion, both deductive and inductive teaching methods have their advantages and can be effective in promoting learning. While deductive teaching may lead to better exam results, inductive teaching can encourage student motivation and positive attitudes towards learning. Interactive lecturing is a useful tool for deductive teaching, as it encourages student engagement and critical thinking. Finally, following up with lower and higher-level questions can help students retain information and develop critical thinking skills.

Annotation:

– To meet indicator 1 in COT –RPMS, the teacher addressed content correctly and its focus is congruent with the topic on his presentation of example and other activities, the teacher motivates his learner to explore the content area to develop their knowledge and satisfy their natural curiosity that can be seen on the part of integration in science subject, the teacher made meaningful connections across the content areas (from Review up to Evaluation and additional activities) and the teacher applied extensive knowledge of the content beyond inquisitiveness his area of specialization that was perceive during the discussion and the activities.

Ppst-aligned rpms: a guide for teachers by teachers.

The Department of Education (DepEd) reaffirmed that the alignment of the Results-Based Performance Management System (RPMS) with the Philippine Professional Standards for Teachers (PPST) is the result of the Focus Group Workshops conducted between March and April 2015 across 17 regions in the country.

The participants in the workshop expressed the need for teachers to focus on teaching, and therefore recommended for the immediate alignment of the RPMS and PPST.

To respond to these demands from the field, the Philippine National Research Center for Teacher Quality (RCTQ), in coordination with the Bureau of Human Resource and Organizational Development (BHROD), National Educators Academy of the Philippines (NEAP), Teacher’s Education Council (TEC) and the Basic Education Sector Transformation (BEST) program, conducted a two-phase project on the development and validation of the RPMS Tools.

This led to the development of the RPMS Manual for Teachers and School Heads that is aligned with PPST. This contains the RPMS Tools and its associated tools –Classroom Observation Tools (COT) and Self-Assessment Tools (SAT) – and performance appraisals forms such as Individual Performance Commitment and Review Form (IPCRF), Midyear Review Form, and Performance Monitoring and Coaching Form.

The Manual provides school heads and other raters a detailed reference to help in the understanding of the tools and the different phases of assessment within the various cycles of RPMS, ensuring that mechanisms are in place to support teacher performance. The Manual also guides the teachers through the basics in preparing, organizing and completing the Portfolio/RPMS documents, and introduces the concept of annotations to guide teachers through critical reflection of their practices for their continuous improvement.

Over 400 teachers, master teachers, principals, supervisors, DepEd regional directors and other educators across all regions in the country were involved in the development and validation of the RPMS Tools and Manual over three years. It can also be noted that the PPST was developed and validated by over 10,000 pre- and in-service teachers, principals, supervisors, regional directors and other educators, and representatives from government agencies and non-government organizations.

PPST-aligned RPMS tools The RPMS tools pertain to the two different teacher performance assessment instruments, one for Teacher I to III (Proficient Teachers) and another for Master Teacher I to IV (Highly Proficient Teachers).

Each tool describes the duties and responsibilities of teachers across career stages, the Key Result Areas (KRAs) for the realization of those duties, and the specific objectives to attain the KRAs. It further presents in detail the various Means of Verification (MOV) that serve as proof of the attainment of specific objectives alongside performance indicators, from outstanding to poor performance.

IPCRF-ready These tools are practical to use, give preference to quality over quantity, ensure teacher effectiveness, and motivate professional growth and development. This set of RPMS tools were made by and for the teachers, resolving the issues of teachers having difficulty coming up with their IPCRF and compiling irrelevant and voluminous MOVs, and ensuring that their performance and practice of teaching are measured through standardized and objective manner.

It is important to note that with the development of these tools, teachers shall no longer craft/develop their own Individual Performance and Commitment Review Form (IPCRF) in view of the developed RPMS tools in the Manual allowing them to focus on teaching.
