Minimalist latex template for academic presentations.

This repository contains a LaTeX template to create an academic presentation. The template uses the Beamer class . The template carefully follows typographical best practices and has a minimalist design. The template is particularly well suited for research presentations. It is designed to convey scientific arguments and results effectively.

• Clone the repository to your local machine.
• Start editing the LaTeX file presentation.tex to replace the boilerplate content with the content of your presentation.
• Replace the figures in the PDF file figures.pdf with the figures that will be included in the presentation. There should be one figure per page.
• Compile presentation.tex with pdfTeX. This will generate a new PDF file named presentation.pdf .
• The LaTeX style file presentation.sty collects all the commands to format the presentation. The file must be included in the same folder as presentation.tex . It can be modified to alter the presentation's format.
• The file presentation.pdf is not required to use the template. It only illustrate the output of the template, and will be overridden once presentation.tex is compiled.

The template was developed, tested, and validated on a Mac with the MacTeX-2023 distribution.

While the template should also work on other operating systems and with other LaTeX distributions, compatibility cannot be guaranteed. Users on Windows or Linux systems, or those using different LaTeX distributions, may need to make minor adjustments. Please report any compatibility issues or bugs you encounter to help improve cross-platform support.

Presentations

Presentations, otherwise known as seminars, talks or lectures, are given to an audience with the purpose of sharing information with a group of people. This may be at an academic conference, a business meeting or even a project progress update. Since LaTeX produces PDFs, you simply need to open the presentation PDF in full screen mode in your PDF viewer to give the presentation.

Beamer Presentation

This presentation template uses the well-known beamer class and shows how effortless making presentations using LaTeX can be. The template contains extensive commenting which lets you customize your presentation easily, be it to change the layout theme, colors, fonts, font size, text alignment or more. It also features many example slides for virtually any presentation element you may need.

Focus Presentation

This template creates modern presentation slides using the beamer class. The minimalist design lets you quickly enter your content and spend time honing your message rather than wasting time in presentation software. The template includes examples of many slide types which should cover most use cases as well as different ways of putting in your content no matter what it is and how you want to emphasize it.

Fancyslides Presentation

This presentation template uses the Fancyslides class which builds on top of the well-known beamer class to give it a modern and concise design. The template is very minimalist with large font sizes and little space for text and would thus be suited for popular presentations by confident speakers. It makes extensive use of background images for slides to provide a strong visual counterpart to the verbal presentation. Content within the presentation is housed within translucent colored circles or rectangles. The former are used for main points or section delineations while the latter are used for larger blocks of text or data slides. Several predefined color options are present within the template and you can also define your own.

Example presentations using Beamer

Beamer is a LaTeX class to produce presentations. It behaves similarly to other LaTeX packages like Prosper, but has the advantage that it works together directly with pdflatex and with dvips.

The beamer class has several useful features: You don't need any external programs to use it other than pdflatex or dvips. You can easily and intuitively create sophisticated overlays. Finally, you can easily change the whole slide theme or only parts of it. (You can readily experiment with and on any given Beamer document.)

Welcome! This is the homepage of Beamer2Thesis , a Thesis theme for Beamer . You can find the documentation realized, of course, as presentation in two languages: the english guide and the italian guide . The documentation is also available with other theme options, for example in this english guide three logos are present in the titlepage, while in this italian guide the titlepage shows how multi-candidate, multi-supervisor and multi-assistant supervisor are handled. Beamer2Thesis is distributed under TeXLive and MiKTeX and it is part of the Comprehensive TeX Archive Network - CTAN .

The first example

This is a minimal example in which all default options are used.

The two frames that are produced are:

In this second example, some options are shown: the default color is set to green, the language is italian, the bullet shape is square and there are more advisors and candidates.

As result, the following two frames are produced:

Use a different language than english or italian

Beamer2Thesis from the first version only provided support for english and italian languages. From the version 2.2 , also other languages are supported. Here is an example with spanish.

Inbuilt themes in beamer

A theme in beamer can be set using the command \ usetheme{themeName} . Here is a 27 inbuilt themes in Beamer:

It should be noted that these themes apply changes to the global structure of the presentation.

1. Default theme

To use the default theme \usetheme {default} command should be added to the preamble. However, if no theme is specified then beamer will apply the default theme to all the frames.

Default frame is preferred when the user wants to customize the frames according to his/her purpose. It is easy to make local changes (color and font) in local structure in the default theme. Compiling the above code with default theme, we get the following:

Templates for written Theses and Presentation Slides

Here you can download the Chair's Theses template based on the TUD script . To use it you will need a latex distribution as well as an an editor. On Linux these are usually included by default (e.g. tetex and kile), on Windows we recommend the use of MikTex and TeXnicCenter. The latex template can be configured in German or English for all kinds of documents like Diploma, Beleg, Bachelor's or Master's Thesis as well as for articles and reports. The tutorial document may help you with the configuration of the file.

Please use our PowerPoint template for the presentation slides of your defense. It is available in 4:3 and 16:9.

I have to write a presentation for my thesis. I am using beamer. Here is the code:

What is going wrong in the other code and why? And is there a smarter way than random \hspaces to get the desired result?

And PS, trying a tabular gives more or less the same error, which is why this is tagged columns too.

I only just realized that the logo is too wide, so I resized it with [width=1.5cm] . Anyway you do not have the image, so just use \rule{5cm}{3cm} instead of the \includegraphics .

And PS I am asking this to avoid ruling the spacing by hand, so I refused my friend's \quad \qquad\qquad … solution and would like a solution without spacing commands. Apparently switching to \twocolumns , \begin{multicols}{2} , \begin{columns} or using a tabular does not work as seen above.

Use a box to insert the authors. Inside this box, you may use minipage s or tabular s or native columns and \column etc. I have used minipage s.
