2 Former Top Yankees Prospects Get Designated For Assignment
- Author: Max Goodman
In this story:
Not too long ago, third baseman Miguel Andújar and left-hander Justus Sheffield were two of the biggest names in the Yankees ' farm system, ranked as top-four prospects by MLB Pipeline in 2018.
This week, Andújar and Sheffield were both designated for assignment by their new teams, a pair of transactions that'll make a prospect hugger cringe.
Andújar was designated for assignment by the Pirates on Friday, a corresponding move after Pittsburgh's reunion with outfielder Andrew McCutchen. The Yankees cut ties with Andújar in September of last season, allowing Pittsburgh to claim the right-handed hitter off waivers.
It's been a steep decline for the 27-year-old since he finished second in the race for American League Rookie of the Year Award in 2018. Andújar has missed time with injuries, slipping down the depth chart within New York's organization. Since his spectacular rookie season—a campaign featuring 27 home runs, 47 doubles and a .855 OPS—Andújar has appeared in just 114 big-league games, including nine with the Pirates last fall.
Last summer, Andújar requested a trade from the Yankees . That declaration came after his latest demotion to Triple-A, a request rooted in his frustration over a lack of consistent playing time in pinstripes. Another team looking for a high-upside right-handed bat could take a chance on Andújar, although his numbers over the last few years have clouded the potential he flashed in his rookie year.
Sheffield, meanwhile, was designated for assignment by the Mariners earlier this week. Seattle snagged the southpaw from New York in the James Paxton trade before the 2019 season—he never panned out in Seattle, posting a 5.40 ERA over 45 games (33 starts) across the last four years. He pitched in only six games with the Mariners in 2022.
New York initially acquired Sheffield in the Andrew Miller trade with Cleveland in 2016, also adding outfielder Clint Frazier and righties Ben Heller and J.P. Feyereisen in the deal.
After designating Sheffield for assignment, the Mariners no longer have any players in the organization from the Paxton trade. That four-player swap also included right-handers Erik Swanson and Dom Thompson-Williams. Swanson was dealt from Seattle to Toronto earlier this offseason in exchange for slugger Teoscar Hernández.

The Yankee who went from the American League Rookie of the Year runner-up (lost to Shohei Ohtani) in 2018 to back to the minors over the last three seasons was designated for assignment on Thursday to make room on the 40-man roster for Zack Britton before the series opener against the Red Sox at Yankee Stadium.
“It’s tough. It is. It may end up that he clears (waivers) and I don’t know if anyone has claimed him yet or anything like that. But he’s a great kid, who works really hard. He’s worked really hard at making himself a quality left fielder,” Yankees manager Aaron Boone said after the Yankees 5-4, 10-inning walk-off win over the Red Sox at the Stadium. “He’s still really talented. So you never know when it can really pop and still click for a guy that has shown he can do it at this level too.”
Several scouts who watched Andujar in Triple-A this season said they would be shocked if he wasn’t claimed quickly.
Andujar, who hit 27 home runs and 47 doubles in 2018, played 149 games that season. He came into 2019 as the Yankees starting third baseman, despite the fact that he was not even average defensively. He suffered a season-ending shoulder injury in the opening weekend of the season and was replaced by Gio Urshela. He never made it back as a regular player. Over the next three years, Andujar played in 93 games hitting eight homers and 25 RBI.
Andujar asked for a trade a few times and this year he made it clear he felt he needed to find a new way to the big leagues.
“I enjoy playing baseball,” Andujar said through Yankees interpreter Marlon Abreu back in July. “I’ve been playing this game for a long time now. I want to play at this level. The exact details of the conversation I want to keep private.”
Given his success early on in his career, there will be teams who will give Andujar a chance.
One scout who watched Andujar in Triple-A this year said that Andujar impressed him with “solid,” at-bats and that teams “still see bat value,” in him.
BRITTON BACK
A day after expressing his frustration with the Yankees’ indecision, Zack Britton got his wish and was activated. The lefty reliever last pitched in a big league game a season ago before being shut down to have Tommy John surgery last October. Now, he has 14 games left to prove he can help them in the playoffs.
“That’s the only reason I’m pitching right now,” Britton said. “Otherwise, I would have just shut it down. I feel like if I get enough innings that I can be myself and I can help in the postseason. Like I said, time will tell if that’s gonna be the case, but that’s my goal.”
Britton is in the last year of his contract with the Yankees. He made just 22 appearances last season before he was shut down. Britton has 154 career saves and had a 1.89 ERA in 2020, his last full season.
While the Yankees may not have been counting on Britton, he would have been much needed veteran help for a bullpen that has already been stretched thin by injuries to Chad Green and Michael King. The bullpen has struggled over the last month, showing their issues when they gave up seven runs Tuesday night against the Pirates.
To get Britton on the 28-man roster, the Yankees placed Wandy Peralta on the 15-day injured list with what the team said is left thoracic spine tightness. That involves the middle of the spine from neck to ribs.
“He’s been down in the last couple of days,” Boone said. “Still there today and not getting much improvement there. We don’t think it’s serious. Something that’s popped up a couple times over the last four to six weeks. This time it’s been a few days though. So it just feels like it’s something we want to knock out right now. And hopefully, hopefully a couple more days we start wrapping them up again and he’d be available then through the Texas series.”
WALKING WOUNDED
Andrew Benintendi was back with the club on Thursday after missing Wednesday with an illness. The left fielder said the hand is getting better and he is able to physically work out, but not able to do anything with the hand he had surgery on yet. He said the best case scenario for him would be to be able to come back during the postseason.
“That was always the plan,” Benintendi said.
The left fielder had surgery to repair the hook of the hamate bone earlier this month .
DJ LeMahieu hit in a regular batting practice group for the first time on Thursday. He also did some running on the bases after. The infielder is on the IL with right toe inflammation .

Oakland athletics | bill clinton returns to dnc to tear into trump before introduction of tim walz, harris’ vp pick, oakland athletics, oakland athletics | andujar’s first-half revival with oakland a’s features return to rookie approach, miguel andujar returning to form that make him a top prospect with the new york yankees in 2018.
Following a half decade stretch defined by a combination of injuries, underperformance and a lack of opportunity, the 29-year-old Andujar is in the midst of a resurgence and a potential trade target for contending teams at the July 30 deadline.
He’s posting his best numbers since he was a rookie, hitting .305 with a 114 OPS+ heading into Tuesday’s game against the Angels. To A’s manager Mark Kotsay, it’s a glimpse into an alternate timeline of Andujar’s career.
“This is the player he would’ve been, in my opinion, had he not had the significant injuries that he’s gone through for those years in his career,” Kotsay said.
In 2018, Andujar was on a radically different trajectory. He finished second behind Shohei Ohtani in the American League Rookie of the Year race, hitting 27 home runs and amassing 92 RBIs with a .297/.328/.527 slash line. Alongside Aaron Judge, Giancarlo Stanton and Gleyber Torres, Andujar looked the part of a foundational piece in the Bronx.
That future never materialized.
He missed most of 2019 due to right shoulder issues. He struggled in the abbreviated 2020 season, then dealt with a left wrist ailment that sidelined him for most of 2021. Towards the end of 2022, the Yankees designated him for assignment. The Pirates claimed Andujar off waivers, but he spent most of 2023 in the minors and was waived by season’s end.
From 2019 to 2023, Andujar appeared in just 144 major-league games. When he did play, he did not perform, posting a paltry .234 batting average and 69 OPS+. According to Baseball Reference, Andujar was worth -1.7 wins above replacement.
Andujar’s departure from New York was especially tough. Andujar signed with the Yankees at 16 years old as an international free agent in July 2011, spending more than a decade with the franchise before his departure. Given how well he played in his first full season, he envisioned wearing the pinstripes for years to come.
“At the end of the day, you can’t control injuries and stuff like that,” Andujar said. “They want to win. They want the best. I had surgery on my shoulder, and after that, I never played more than 50 games (in a season) in the bigs.”
The A’s took a flier on Andujar this offseason, claiming him off waivers and then signing him to a one-year, $1.7 million deal. Andujar, in turn, is making the most of his opportunity.
The source of Andujar’s revival at the plate dates back to 2023. During spring training, Andujar began working with Frankie Colon, a hitting coach in the Tampa area who was suggested by former Yankees teammate Gary Sánchez.
Colon compiled film of Andujar’s 2018 season, the goal being to get Andujar back to a gap-to-gap approach. While Andujar hit 27 homers as a rookie, he never exhibited that type of power in the minors. Before his first call-up, Andujar hadn’t hit more than 16 homers in a single minor-league season. After producing unexpected power numbers in his first season, Andujar tried to replicate those results rather than sticking to what worked.
“I tried to hit the ball in the air,” Andujar said. “That hurt me because I hit a lot of doubles in 2018, so I tried to hit more homers. I found Colon and he told me the right things.”
With the help of Colon, Andujar finally got back to the approach he exhibited as a rookie. The results followed.
Andujar spent most of last year with the Pirates’ Triple-A affiliate, where he had a .338 batting average and .941 OPS. In 30 games with the Pittsburgh, Andujar had a .250 batting average and .776 OPS. Considering Andujar had a .230 batting average and .581 OPS in the majors from 2019 to 2022, it was a season upon which he could build.
Andujar continued hitting well in the Dominican Winter League (.306 batting average, 19 RBIs), but really turned heads during spring training with the A’s. In 14 games, Andujar hit .357 with five home runs and a 1.110 OPS in Cactus League play before undergoing surgery to repair a torn right meniscus. His injury kept him off the A’s Opening Day roster, but since joining the fold in May, Andujar has just kept on producing.
“Leaving spring training being hurt, this isn’t going to be another full season for him, but hopefully, we’ll have the remainder of the season watching him do special things,” Kotsay said.
The likelihood that Andujar remains in Oakland for the remainder of the season, though, is low. The A’s are currently on pace to lose at least 100 games for a third straight season, and with Andujar being on a cheap one-year deal, he’ll likely be dealt to a contender at the trade deadline.
Regardless of the length of his stay in the Bay, Andujar’s time with the green and gold has provided his career with a second wind.

Miguel andujar’s yankees downfall complete with dfa.
Miguel Andujar was once one of the Yankees’ top prospects and played well enough to finish second to Shohei Ohtani for AL Rookie of the Year Award in 2018.
That seems like a long time ago. Andujar was sidetracked by a shoulder injury the following season and his career went downhill after that.
His career hit a new low on Thursday, when the Yankees designated the 27-year-old for assignment in order to open up a 40-man roster spot for the return of reliever Zack Britton. Andujar had been optioned to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on Wednesday to make room for Luis Severino on the active roster.
Andujar was on the 40-man roster, so the Yankees can’t trade him, because the Aug. 2 trade deadline has come and gone, but he could still clear waivers and return to the Yankees’ system.
Several scouts in attendance at Yankee Stadium on Thursday night believe Andujar would get picked up. But his time with the Yankees appears to be over.
“It’s tough,’’ Aaron Boone said after the Yankees’ 5-4, 10-inning win over Boston . “He’s a great kid who worked really hard to be a quality left fielder. He’s still really talented. You never know when it can still click for a guy.”
Andujar lost his starting job at third base to Gio Urshela following his 2019 injury and tried to come back as a utility player, learning first base and left field.
He never came close to duplicating his 2018 results at the plate, so he couldn’t make up for his defensive shortcomings.
Andujar played 27 games with the Yankees this season and went just 22-for-96 (.229) in 100 plate appearances. Worse, he finished with three extra-base hits, three walks and 22 strikeouts and a .531 OPS, a far cry from the 47 doubles, 27 homers and .855 OPS he compiled in 2018.

Detroit Tigers veteran Gio Urshela designated for assignment as infield prospects arrive
The Detroit Tigers have made some big changes.
Not only did the Tigers promote infield prospects Jace Jung and Trey Sweeney from Triple-A Toledo for their MLB debuts, but the Tigers also designated veteran third baseman Gio Urshela for assignment, thus removing him from the 40-man roster.
The flurry of roster moves became official before Friday's game against the New York Yankees at Comerica Park.
ON THE FARM: Tigers prospect acquired in Jack Flaherty trade already showing how he 'nukes balls'
Urshela, a nine-year MLB veteran, has been placed on waivers.
The Tigers informed Urshela of the decision to place him on waivers after Thursday's 2-1 win over the Seattle Mariners, according to a source with knowledge of the situation.
"That was tough," manager A.J. Hinch said before Friday's game. "I was told when we signed him, by a lot of people in the industry, that he would turn into one of my favorite players, and they were right. He's such a fun pro to be around, but these jobs, they often create situations that you have to make tough decisions."
Urshela, 32, is still owed about $353,000 of his $1.5 million 2024 salary, which he agreed to when he signed a one-year contract with the Tigers at the beginning of spring training. If he is claimed off waivers, the new team will take on his contract.
The Tigers will know by Sunday if Urshela clears waivers or gets claimed. He will not play for the Tigers while awaiting his fate because he has been removed from the 40-man roster, which helps create room for the incoming infield prospects.
SPRING TRAINING: Can newcomer Gio Urshela become everyday third baseman for Tigers in 2024 season?
His remaining salary is affordable, so Urshela is a candidate to be claimed, but he hit just .243 with five home runs, 19 walks and 49 strikeouts in 92 games with the Tigers, posting a .619 OPS. He has been worth minus-5 defensive runs saved at third base.
Urshela didn't generate trade interest from other teams ahead of the July 30 trade deadline , but even a couple of weeks later, he could generate more interest on the waiver wire because other teams don't have to surrender a prospect for him.
If he clears waivers, he would be eligible to sign with a new team for the prorated minimum salary (roughly $174,000) while the Tigers remain responsible for the rest of his contract.
"We have to take a step in a new direction to give opportunities to some young players who have earned it," Hinch said, "and it's going to come at the cost of his spot in our organization, but I will speak highly of Gio and what he's about as a person and as a player, and hopefully, somebody grabs him while they can now."
His most memorable moment as a Tiger occurred July 13, when he hit a walk-off two-run home run to left-center field for an 11-9 win over the Los Angeles Dodgers at Comerica Park, capping an epic comeback . He also had two homers in a three-game stretch in early June against the Boston Red Sox at Fenway Park.
GI-OMG 😱 pic.twitter.com/98a2yYfNCi — Detroit Tigers (@tigers) July 13, 2024
Before the Tigers, Urshela played for five other teams in his 756-game MLB career: the Cleveland Guardians (2015, 2017), Toronto Blue Jays (2018), New York Yankees (2019-21), Minnesota Twins (2022) and Los Angeles Angels (2023). He suffered a season-ending pelvic injury, which didn't require surgery, in mid-June 2023 with the Angels.
He spent three weeks on the injured list in 2024 with a right hamstring strain .
Urshela is a career .273 hitter in the majors.

Dodgers activate Tommy Edman, Max Muncy and recall Hunter Feduccia
LOS ANGELES – The Los Angeles Dodgers activated infielder/outfielder Tommy Edman and infielder Max Muncy from the injured list, recalled catcher Hunter Feduccia, designated infielder Nick Ahmed for assignment, optioned outfielder Andy Pages and placed catcher Austin Barnes on the injured list. In order to make room for Muncy, the Dodgers transferred right-handed pitcher River Ryan to the 60-day injured list.
Edman, 29, was acquired on July 29 in a three-team trade with the Chicago White Sox and St. Louis Cardinals. He has been out all season with offseason wrist surgery. He made six rehab appearances with the Oklahoma City ball club, hitting .294 with one homer and four RBI. The switch-hitting utility player has been in the Majors five seasons, slashing .265/.319/.408 with 53 homers, 222 RBI and 106 stolen bases. He has seen time at six different positions on the field, winning the Rawlings Gold Glove in 2021 at second base after posting a .990 fielding percentage in 508 chances. He was originally selected by the St. Louis Cardinals in the sixth round of the 2016 First Year Player Draft out of Stanford University.
Muncy, 33, has been on the injured list since May 17 with a right oblique strain. He is hitting .223 on the season with nine homers and 28 RBI. During his rehab with Triple-A Oklahoma City, he batted .286 with one homer and four RBI. The Texas native has been with the Dodgers seven seasons, slashing .230/.354/.486 with 184 homers and 500 RBI in 791 games. He began his Major League career in 2015 with the Oakland Athletics and has clubbed 189 homers in 887 career Major League games. He was originally drafted by the Oakland Athletics in the fifth round of the 2012 First Year Player Draft out of Baylor University.
Feduccia, 27, returns for his second stint with the team after going 0-for-1 in his lone plate appearance. He appeared in 73 games for Oklahoma City, batting .282 with six homers and 46 RBI. He has been with the organization six seasons, batting .267 with 46 homers and 252 RBI in 438 minor league games. The backstop was drafted in the 12 th round of the 2018 First Year Player Draft out of Louisiana State University.
Ahmed, 34, played in 17 games for the Dodgers, hitting .229 with a homer and two RBI. Prior to joining the Dodgers, he played 52 games for San Francisco, hitting .232 with one homer, six doubles and 15 RBI. He has been in the Major Leagues parts of 11 seasons with Arizona (2014-23), San Francisco (2024) and Los Angeles (2024), hitting .234 with 72 homers and 339 RBI in 957 games. He won the Rawlings Gold Glove in back-to-back seasons from 2018-19, making a total of 22 errors in 1,238 chances with 177 double plays. He was originally drafted by the Atlanta Braves in the second round of the 2011 First Year Player Draft out of the University of Connecticut.
Pages, 24, has played in 98 games for the Dodgers this season, hitting .246 with nine home runs and 36 RBI. He joined the Dodgers on April 16 after hitting .371 with five homers and 15 RBI in 15 games with Oklahoma City. In 2023, he played in 34 games between Double-A Tulsa and Triple-A Oklahoma City, recording a .907 OPS with 12 doubles and three homers before having to miss the rest of the season with left shoulder surgery. He has amassed 94 homers and 299 RBI in 416 minor league games with a .908 OPS. He was originally signed by the Dodgers as an international free agent on May 1, 2018 out of Havana, Cuba.
Barnes, 34, was added to the injured list with a left great toe fracture. He has played in 34 games for the Dodgers this season, hitting .241 with one homer and eight RBI. He has been with the team parts of 10 seasons, hitting 35 homers and driving in 157 runs in 589 career games. He was originally drafted by the Miami Marlins in the ninth round of the 2011 First Year Player Draft out of Arizona State University.

Dodgers Designate Nick Ahmed For Assignment
By Anthony Franco | August 19, 2024 at 7:10pm CDT
The Dodgers designated shortstop Nick Ahmed for assignment and optioned rookie outfielder Andy Pages to Triple-A Oklahoma City this evening. The move opened spots on the major league roster for Max Muncy and Tommy Edman , both of whom have returned from the 60-day injured list. Ahmed’s DFA opened one spot on the 40-man roster, while the Dodgers transferred River Ryan to the 60-day IL to create an additional spot. Ryan underwent Tommy John surgery and is done for the season. Los Angeles also recalled catcher Hunter Feduccia and placed veteran backup Austin Barnes on the 10-day injured list with a toe fracture.
Ahmed signed with the Dodgers a month ago. With Mookie Betts and Miguel Rojas out at the time, Los Angeles added Ahmed directly onto the major league roster. The defensive stalwart started 14 games at shortstop. He continued to provide defensive value but didn’t produce much offensively. While Ahmed hit a go-ahead home run to help beat the Giants (his former team) early in his Dodger tenure, he ultimately hit just .229/.245/.292 in 49 trips to the plate.
Between San Francisco and L.A., Ahmed carries a .232/.271/.300 batting line through 221 plate appearances. While he has never been a huge offensive threat, Ahmed has particularly struggled at the dish over the last two seasons. The two-time Gold Glove winner remains a strong defender, but the lack of firepower at the plate has squeezed him off a trio of rosters within the past two seasons. The Dodgers have welcomed Betts and Rojas back in recent weeks. Even with Betts returning to the outfield, they were comfortable enough with their infield depth to waive deadline pickup Amed Rosario after five games.
Los Angeles now adds two more infield-capable players in Muncy and Edman. The former should return to his everyday work at third base, moving Enrique Hernández back into a utility role. Muncy has been out for three months after suffering an oblique strain that proved more significant than the team initially expected. The power-hitting infielder was out to a .223/.323/.475 start to the season.
Edman is a versatile defender who can play essentially anywhere aside from catcher. He has spent the entire 2024 campaign on the injured list. Edman underwent postseason surgery on his right wrist while he was a member of the Cardinals. St. Louis hoped he’d be ready around Opening Day, yet a much slower recovery process kept him from even going on a rehab assignment until mid-July. The Dodgers nevertheless acquired Edman alongside Michael Kopech in a three-team trade that was one of the biggest moves of deadline season. St. Louis landed Erick Fedde and Tommy Pham from Chicago, who centered their return around Miguel Vargas from Los Angeles.
The Stanford product is now set for his Dodger debut. Manager Dave Roberts told reporters last week that Edman will get the bulk of his work in center field ( X link via Fabian Ardaya of the Athletic). A middle infielder by trade, Edman had never started a major league game in center until last season. The Cards gave him 310 2/3 innings there and were rewarded with strong defensive grades — which has been a theme for Edman no matter where he’s played — in that relatively limited sample.
Plugging Edman into the outfield squeezes Pages off the MLB roster for now. The 23-year-old has had a decent if unexceptional rookie season, hitting .246/.305/.388 across 394 trips to the plate. Kevin Kiermaier should move into a fourth outfield capacity while Pages gets everyday playing time for a couple weeks in OKC. Reporter Francys Romero tweets that the Dodgers are likely to recall the Cuban-born outfielder once active rosters expand to 28 players on September 1.
Jack Harris of the Los Angeles Times first observed that Pages and Ahmed were being sent out.

Watch padres snatch up Ahmed if Kim misses time
Has anyone ever played for 3 divisional teams during one season?
You’re aware there is standings pecking order to waiver claims, right?
There’s actually a good chance all 30 teams pass on Ahmed
Why mojo dojo. Who do you see claiming ahmed
perhaps the Seibu Lions
You’re aware there is standings pecking order to waiver claims, right?
I hope Kim is not badly hurt. But if you need him, I hope you get Ahmed. Happy now?
Tyler Wade is a better option for short term. X moves back if long term – or Tatis come back in 2 weeks and goes to SS? Peralta isn’t hurting SD in RF.
He actually has and cost the game yesterday, js
Low – a 9 inning ballgame where everyone made outs instead of hitting home runs is not the place to say 1 player in 1 play “cost the game”.
Not like a QB throwing 4 ints.
No player in a baseball game ever costs their team the game. That’s just not how baseball works
Bro, I agree. That is why is posted what I did to counter what Low had posted.
I read your post to me as if you weren’t aware of what and why I said what j said.
Fernando back at SS would hurt the padres but would still be cool
Machado or profar back at SS would be an even cooler throwback
Tatis won’t be back in two weeks, but if he does make it back, RF is where he most improves the team
Brew – I’m hopeful Tstos will be back in 2 ish weeks. Also hopeful Kim isn’t out that long!
I agree RF is the desired spot but if Kim is out (might as well start figuring out SS now) then creativity will be the key. It’s probably Bog which can get Solano’s bat back in the lineup – defense drops some but offense might improve.
Eguy get a call up if Kim goes on IL? Rather see Tirso but positional wise – although Tirso is getting some 1b time at AAA now.
I wish they could free up more ABs for Solano. But the UT reported this morning that the team is apparently considering Cronenworth at SS if Kim is out long term, as they don’t want to move Bogey off of 2B.
But yeah, if Kim goes on IL I wonder who gets the call up – I think you’re right it will probably be Eguy
Brew – if the plan is to keep Bogey at 2b going forward, I’m actually fine with Cro being the guy for however long Kim is out. It makes sense to keep him acclimated at 2b. Cro might even be better when given 25-30 games than Bogey at this point!
I have to believe teams and players have some side conversations about the future – Kim declines and we want to keep you – or not – type things. Maybe the player, ala Soto, makes it abundantly clear, I’m testing waters, etc.
Kim has regressed offensively but would still want him there in 2025. The problem, if he wants a 4-5 year deal (and should), why do they with DeVries being 2 years out? You can’t extend / sign everyone for the next 10 years! Hopefully,
I can’t wait for Tatis to come back and ruin the Padres chemistry
Tara, chemistry is real for sure and SD seems to have a great chemistry right now.
That said, a generational talent gets heathy then he helps the team.
Also, you are surely aware that Tatis has been in the dugout for every inning since he went on IL, right? He is seen cheerleading during the games. He was also on the field for 1/2 the season and wasn’t a problem.
Begs the question, what makes you think he will ruin the chemistry? Just hoping or hating on Tatis for hate sake?
In 2014 Kelly Johnson played for the Yankees, Red Sox and Orioles. And that was after spending the previous two seasons playing for the Blue Jays and Rays
In ’77 Dave Kingman played in all 4 divisions and homered for each team. The more you know.
What is a “go around home run”? An inside the park home run?
think he means “go-ahead” homer
Or, what goes around comes around.
Home run that nets the team a lead after previously trailing
These roster moves throughout MLB have to be held to a number. It’s gotten ridiculous.
Ahmed lasted a month. Rosario less than that. The average fan can’t follow this. FO’s playing Rotisserie League for real.
Enough already.
well some fans are smarter than others.
“Enough already”..I get your point. 5+ years ago I knew the names and profiles of 90% of MLB players. These days I know about 50%(at best)of player names and profiles. MLB has done a MAJOR operating SHIFT in that(good)players no longer spend 4+ yrs in the minors. I’d estimate that 5+ yrs ago 80% of Major Leaguers were experienced players who’d already spent years honing the finer points of their craft in the minors. And today, the pace of Major League initial debuts is so dizzying that I don’t even bother trying to keep up. Major League baseball has clearly shifted from an experienced player model to a young, inexperienced(cheap) player model, which has lowered the level of play substantially in my honest opinion.
I’m sorry you can’t keep up. But can we ask a question, what exactly would you like to change? Pretty sure the Dodgers would have preferred to not have a team of all stars on the IL for half the season,.
But yeah, let’s limit the roster moves so you can keep up. Terribly sorry.
single syllables please Miles
You guys don’t get my point……
You think I’m stupid? OK. Please who me what gains the Dodgers made with all these little moves.
Are the Dodgers even a team? Can we talk about their infield the way we talked about Garvey, Lopes, Russell, Cey? If a fan doesn’t follow Dodger news everyday on their smart phone they don’t even know who is on the team.
I worked in offices with a group of people that participated in Rotisserie Leagues. Every day – “Should I play player X tonight”. “Whatdaya think if I trade player Y for player Z?”. Every GD day. It was ridiculous. Warren Buffett didn’t become the most successful investor of 2-1/2 generations by buying and sell stocks each day because he thought he found something better. – Your “team” claimed a so-so SS for a month, then jettisoned him and claimed a different so-so SS? Wow! How exciting!!
I used to admire Andrew Friedman. Now it’s become clear that his success is based on having his pitchers overuse parts of their arm, shoulder, forearm, hand, fingers to get an edge, and when they get injured find a way to “fix” another guy looking for Andy Warhol’s: “15 Minutes of Fame” – which is about your concentration level so you can check the exciting news to find who is on the Dodgers roster today because someone else got used up.
Well you said it yourself. “The average fan can’t follow this.” So I understand your plight.
“You think I’m stupid? ”
I don’t think your rant here is very intelligent.
“Are the Dodgers even a team? ”
Yes. Definitely.
“Can we talk about their infield the way we talked about Garvey, Lopes, Russell, Cey?”
What does that have to do with anything?
“I worked in offices with a group of people that participated in Rotisserie Leagues. Every day – “Should I play player X tonight”. “Whatdaya think if I trade player Y for player Z?”. Every GD day. It was ridiculous. Warren Buffett didn’t become the most successful investor of 2-1/2 generations by buying and sell stocks each day because he thought he found something better.”
What does this have to do with anything?
“Your “team” claimed a so-so SS for a month, then jettisoned him and claimed a different so-so SS? Wow! How exciting!!”
What two SSs are you talking about? Also a transaction doesn’t have to be “exciting” to make sense.
“which is about your concentration level so you can check the exciting news to find who is on the Dodgers roster today because someone else got used up.”
Seems like you’re contradicting yourself
Is it that it it takes too much concentration to keep up with the Dodgers’ transactions or is it that some undefined entity doesn’t have enough concentration to follow the Dodgers.
Your rant is all over the place. 3/10
We dont think you’re stupid Samuel, we know you’re stupid. Shut up about rotisserie leagues, it’s played out, you sound dumb
In Samuel’s defense the Dodgers have made some head scratching moves this season as it seems they reached the limit off the great depth they’ve displayed in years past. Getting rid of Yarbrough, who was a rubber arm out of the bullpen, and now getting rid of Honeywell, who has also pitched pretty well. Sending Pages down but keeping Kiermaier. The revolving door of castoffs from other team’s as they’ve tried to piece together a roster (Biggio, Ahmed, Rosario, Trammell) all seem very Un-Dodgers like.
No. There is no defense for Samuel. He’s a turd demon with little intelligence. That is all.
And why is everyone acting like Honeywell pitched well? AAA and majors looks like dump
“the Dodgers have made some head scratching moves this season as it seems they reached the limit off the great depth they’ve displayed in years past. Getting rid of Yarbrough, who was a rubber arm out of the bullpen, and now getting rid of Honeywell, who has also pitched pretty well. ”
Honeywell wasn’t pitching well. He had a low ERA, but ERA isn’t a good stat for measuring pitcher performance.
Yarborough, wasn’t really pitching well either – largely because he wasn’t being used in the roll he’s best suited for – long reliever going through the order more than once
Keirmaier is a elite defender, Pages isn’t really a CFer. If they option Pages, they can keep him in the organization and call him up later. They can’t necessarily do that with Keirmaier – at least it’s a more complicated transaction.
Yes, the depth has been tested. They’ve had a ton of pitching injuries and a few key injuries to hitters. They brought in replacements as needed.
3/10 is generous
Yarbrough has a 6.10 ERA since June and the Dodgers needed someone who could play CF, as Andy Pages clearly cannot.
Honeywell started well and then had a 1.88 WHIP in his last 4 appearances prior to being let go.
You can’t buy chemistry
flaherty and kopech beg to differ
You mean like Tracy and Hepburn? Tell me more!
But you can buy the Yeasayer album, Amen and Goodbye which includes the song ‘I Am Chemistry’. Which is just as good.
But you can buy chemicals
Not too shabby: DH: Shohei Ohtani RF: Mookie Betts 1B: Freddie Freeman LF: Teoscar Hernández 2B: Gavin Lux C: Will Smith 3B: Max Muncy SS: Miguel Rojas CF: Tommy Edman
Unfortunately they can’t pitch
said the fan of the 25th ranked pitching staff about the 7th ranked staff.
Dude our whole staff was out worst then yours. Still right behind you in the standings which is hilarious and pitiful on the dodgers part
Yeah let’s play “who had more injuries. ” What a sad argumenet. Get real. Buehler, Sheehan, Hurt, Graterol, Treinen, Brasier, Brogdon, Miller, Heyward, Phillips, Muncy, Betts, Kelly, Taylor, Rojas, Grove, Yamamoto, Glasnow, Barnes. And you’re not right behind the Dodgers.. You’re behind the Padres.
I would probably take Gallen, Kelly and either Pfaadt or ERod in a short series over whatever the Dodgers might throw
To be fair, spending $175m less than The dodgers, we’ve had Gallen, Kelly, Erod, Monty, Marte, walker, perdomo, Moreno, Nelson, and others all out this year with walker Marte and gabby out right now. To only be 3-4 back of the dodgers is nuts especially spending so much less. Having less to trade with, less to buy with and less to buy international prospects with. Yes the dodgers are probably the most injured team in baseball but the dbacks are probably second to that. But they’re still right behind… just saying man..
Ok you win. Your argument is just so strong.
Pads, Snakes and Dodgers are three good teams. I think the competition is great. You parse it out however it makes you feel better.
Not trying to win, I’m saying that both teams are right next to each other and both injured severely. One team spend twice as much and has the availability to get whoever they want but they’re still right next to each other lol.
Actually the 2024 team total payrolls are LAD 238 mill AZ 175 mill SD 167 mill
So enjoy that.
Are you counting active and injured? Last I checked was $325m dodgers and $165m dbacks. Could be wrong but I checked post trade deadline on Spotrac. Also to note, gotta tac on another $70m just for ohtani, that $2m a year doesn’t count hahaha. Or at least average it out over 20 Y to $35m per year on top.
yes. here you can look it all over yourself…
spotrac.com/mlb/payroll/_/year/2024/sort/cap_total…
Fair enough! Love this tight race! Makes for great baseball
Zack: That I can heartily agree with.
ate you looking at the dbacks team now. marte walker moreno out as well! Seawald was out as well. You should be 10 games up with your payroll. miller buheler are just trash now. Injuries have nothing to do with it. Dodgers are awful. your always om here looking to defend your awful team to anyone who says a negative thing about them. They suck and never win. Just accept this and you will feel better
Taker: You start out by saying “Dude our whole staff was out worst than (sic) yours.” And now come back with “Injuries have nothing to do with it.” Make up your mind. I hope it makes a long warm cozy winter for you gnashing your teeth about how the rich kids took advantage of you. Might be easier for you if you simply enjoyed the division race.
We have a team of 7 posters who are each paid $25,000 for the regular season to use this screen name to combat poor saps like you. They each will get an additional $10,000 for the playoffs when we will add another 5 posters to the team. We concentrate only on Dbacks posters. Padres posters seem to be more sane and significantly more intelligent than the Snakes contingent.
Is this a private fight or can anybody join?
“Dodgers are awful. your always om here looking to defend your awful team to anyone who says a negative thing about them. They suck and never win. Just accept this and you will feel better”
No interesting baseball discussion seems likely to come from you
but he does provide comic relief Bro.
Between you and the idiot who muted your mad. Your team blows. If I say anything your Ultra sensitive like a woman. You come and reply on most of my comments. all I said is they can’t pitch and you complain
stupid AND misogynistic. every time you open your mouth you embarrass yourself. I didn’t complain. I pointed out your staff is near the bottom of MLB and LAD is in the top ten. I should let your misinformation pass? You’re here for the attention. I provide it. Be happy. Oh wait. That’s beyond you isn’t it?
God I would love to see what you look like! You are the most annoying person.Go look at your comments to when anyone states the dodgers are underperforming. Dbacks kicked their a$$. If you win the chip your supposed to win so no one cares! If you don’t your team is a bust like usual! Get a life!
a classy and thoughtful response as usual.
Lmao classy? You start all this.if you can’t take criticism of your team them you shouldn’t be on here. I love my team but I’m not stupid. We have faults. my manager is annoying. Makes dumb moves. Part of sports man. Just cause you love the dodgers don’t mean reality doesn’t exist
If you would take the time to read the exchanges I have with other Snakes fans you’ll find compliments from me on what a strong team the Snakes have, statements about looking forward to the final weeks of the division race and civil discussions about baseball topics. It’s you who makes hyperbolic statements about how your opponents –at least LAD–“suck” and are “an awful team” etc etc. I’m sure you know that is all BS. You respond to every one of my posts and at the same time castigate me for responding to yours. Try raising the level of your discourse and we will all be better for it. Or STFU. There are three very good teams in the West race, none of them perfect, but all of them very competitive. You want to stay hung up on the big market versus small market thing, knock yourself out. But it’s boring. If your team had the same money they’d spend it. In any case the Snakes have put together an excellent squad. If your team wins, more power to you. I will be the first to say congrats.
Bro cut the crap You STFU. I have all the comments. You come find me on all my statements. I never reply to you but once! Couldn’t care less about you or the dodgers. I see all your comments to people who don’t like the dodgers. Your a sore loser and can’t take any negative comments. How is me saying the hitting lineup cant pitch a bad thing? Since your staff is struggling? You take everything to the heart. Dude we can do this. You stop commenting on me and when I make statement on the dodgers leave it alone.
“Couldn’t care less about you or the dodgers.” Obviously.
When children get this cranky their parents make them take a nap.
I get this but I still like it the other way.
RF: Mookie Betts DH: Shohei Ohtani 1B: Freddie Freeman LF: Teoscar Hernandez 2B: Gavin Lux C: Will Smith 3B: Max Muncy SS: Miguel Rojas/Kike Hernandez CF: Tommy Edman
me too with Mookie. But I will grin and bear it.
and let’s not forget Shohei has stolen 37 bags and counting.
40/40 is pretty much in the bag. Another baseball achievement for Shohei.
I think Ohtani SB numbers are inflated and I think this pitch clock timer is the cause. I’m convinced this move to increase offense has created a weird ripple when it comes to SBs and I don’t like it. We are now going to have multiple 50sb players after year where we had a 40-70 player. It’s stupid and it happened so quickly after years where stolen bases stagnated.
The Pitch clock coupled with the two disengagements per AB has led to an increase in Stolen Bases. That said i don’t mind it. The Red Sox have their first set of teammates with 30+ steals in the same season since 1910
Agreed Rsox.
Polls say most fans find more SB’s add excitement to the game.
The fact the stat lasted for over 110 years then was repeated 1 year after the rule change shows a heavy hand in correction.
Mojo you can’t say you aren’t biased.
Bauer– Of course I am biased. I bleed Dodger blue. But apart from that exactly to what do you refer?
The stolen base was neutralized by analytics. Before the analytics era, 100 bag seasons were not uncommon. MLB did what they saw was necessary to bring back the running game. I’m not thrilled by the rule changes but I’m even less thrilled by the ways analytics changed the game in the first place.
“Now witness the power of this fully armed and operational battle station!”
A team for the ages……
Or maybe until this coming weekend.
P.S. Both the Padres and DBacks play better baseball. I watch the games. That’s why the Dodgers wash out come the playoffs every year.
It’s the weekend after next, but we’re all looking forward to it. Should be fun.
” the Dodgers wash out come the playoffs every year.”
You mean the way the Snakes lost the big one last fall? Well done.
They lost but meanwhile didn’t even make it ♂️♂️ I’d be crying too if another team beat me so bad that I had to spend one billion dollars in the off-season just to become better.
I’m not as smart as you, obviously. Who is supposed to be crying in your scenario? And you are aware that the billion bux you refer to is spread over 10 years, are you not? And you’re aware that the two highest priced players –Ohtani & Yamamoto–were sought after by multiple teams who made similar offers, or do we have to go over all of that again slowly for you?
Exactly never seen such a sore loser!
Doesn’t matter if its spread out. A billion is a billion, do I need to say that again slowly for you? Or is the salt from your tears still too much that you can’t read properly?
A billion is a billion and a putz is a shmuck.
Oh you set the rules of math. Did you not finish high school?
Since you’re a Dodger fan, it’s probably safe to say you didn’t. When are you getting your GED?
now there is snappy and creative comeback. I’m out. You’re too easy.
Easy like your team in playoffs. It’s okay to admit defeat buddy.
Welcome to Atlanta, Nick
Won’t accept a Ring. Don’t even offer it.
With all of these roster moves I thought they’d call up rushing…
But their outfield is stacked enough to block rushing so I don’t think he sees action until 2025
We hated to lose Edman. Not a super star but a grinder who will play anywhere with steller defense and grind out ABs. Great speed with some pop. If healthy a very good pickup
On the flip side I haven’t heard any cardinals fans saying that they hate acquiring fedde and Pham
hopefully that trade works well for all 3 teams
11 hours ago
Unless the Braves pull off a miracle with all their injuries, there’s a realistic chance 4 teams from the NL West make the playoffs. And I’m not sure that’s happened since playoff expansion where a division had 4 teams in.
Hard to picture the Giants playing well enough down the stretch to beat both the Braves or the Mets to the punch. A long shot, but as you say, it’s possible. Even if it does I don’t suppose we will ever hear the end of the trash talking of the NLW.
Yeah, maybe a longshot, but I think it would be fun to have NL playoffs full of teams that play games when Passan et. al. are sound asleep.
Dodgers probably aren’t done yet. Chris Taylor is on a rehab assignment and is about a week away. If he’s back before the rosters expand there will have to be another DFA. It won’t be Kike’ and Kiermaier is getting more playing time than Heyward.
JHey should have just hurt his back again. dude hasn’t done squat for quite a while and Pages just started hitting.
