Are IGNOU students eligible for M. Phil Clinical Psychology?

Yes, definitely! If you have done your MA/M.Sc. in Psychology through distance learning under IGNOU you can still apply for M.Phil. in Clinical Psychology from a regular college and get licensed by RCI (Rehabilitation Council of India). However, not all universities or institutions provide the same for IGNOU students, but we have prepared a list of institutions and colleges that do. Before jumping to the list, you must first have a little factual knowledge about IGNOU and the M.Phil. program.

Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU)

IGNOU is an open university in India offering distance learning in varied streams of education under recognition by the University Grants Commission (UGC). IGNOU has helped in bringing a higher level of education to the doorstep with an affordable fee structure.

IGNOU vs Regular College: In terms of fee affordability and flexibility IGNOU is leading and is considered a better choice for someone who is in dire need of both the conditions mentioned. However, there cannot be a direct answer to this question as both types of institutes are there to serve different sections of society.

Validity of the degree attained from IGNOU: IGNOU is a recognized institute by the University Grants Commission (UGC) and All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), thus its degree holds an equivalent value to that of a regular college.

IGNOU study material: IGNOU provides all the study material digitally at no additional cost for ease of access to all its students. The study material is widely used and considered helpful by people preparing for other renowned Government exams.

The Master of Philosophy (M.Phil.)

The Master of Philosophy (M.Phil.) in Clinical Psychology is an intensive academic research program regulated by the Rehabilitation Council of India (RCI) and offered at RCI-recognised institutions across the country. It is a two-year full-time course that focuses on theoretical principles of clinical psychology as well as ensures internships and training with patients/clients in clinical setups. It is a job-oriented course. As per the Mental Healthcare Act (MHA, 2017), a clinical psychologist is required to hold an M.Phil. degree to practice as a licensed clinical psychologist at hospitals or private practices in India .

Course Type: Postgraduate

Course Duration: 2 years

Course Eligibility:

Aspirants with a degree in M.A./M.Sc. Psychology with at least an aggregate of 55% marks.
Students in their semester 4 th of M.A./M.Sc. can also appear for the exam.
Candidates are usually shortlisted for admission in an MPhil course based on their performance in an entrance exam followed by a Personal Interview (PI) round.

Almost every school needs a psychologist with M.A. degree to work full time with problem children and also teach psychology for classes XI and XII in the 10+2 schooling. In addition many rehabilitation centres are being established all over India both in the mental health and physical disability areas, and these need immediately qualified psychologists with M.A. Degree in Psychology to man those centres. The M.A.(Psychology) degree programme is being offered by the School of Social Sciences of IGNOU. In the recent past Psychology degree has been in great demand with many schools, hospitals both private and public as well as the voluntary welfare agencies and correctional institutions demanding for psychologists to deal with varied problems of human behaviour. Almost every school needs a psychologist with M.A. degree to work full time with problem children and also teach psychology for classes XI and XII in the 10+2 schooling. In addition many rehabilitation centres are being established all over India both in the mental health and physical disability areas, and these need qualified psychologists with M.A. Degree in Psychology to mange those centres. Further, psychologists also play an important role in industrial set up in terms of selection, training and other human resource functions. Thus the subject has wide application not only in clinical, counselling and industrial set up but also in other areas like sports,defence, education etc.

	The M.Sc. programme in the area of Counselling and Family Therapy is a very important programme in this vital field, which is gaining greater salience in the present times. The contemporary social scenario has resulted in an increased need and demand for support in terms of counselling and family therapy, which is being increasingly recognized as an effective approach both for promoting positives like strengthening family ties, fostering positive parenting, and increasing resilience of individuals in vulnerable situations, as well as for addressing negative aspects such as socio-psychological problems, maladaptive behaviours, declining mental health, and psychosomatic disorders that are being increasingly witnessed in the present times. However, though the need for counselling and family therapy support is being increasingly felt, there is a dearth of such support or a helping hand for promoting positive family processes and helping individual family members in distress in a comprehensive way. As a continuing education programme, this unique programme of study aims to help interested professionals and others enhance and promote the acquisition and fostering of the requisite knowledge, understanding, attitudes and skills in the area of Counselling and Family Therapy. A remarkable feature of this programme of study is its focus on the applied aspect and the thrust on opportunities for hands-on experience for the learner. In fact, almost half the credits of this Master’s Degree Programme are earmarked for application-oriented learning opportunities. In the second year of the programme, the learner has the option to choose Marital and Family Therapy and Counselling, Child and Adolescent Counselling and Family Therapy or Substance Abuse Counselling and Family Therapy. Yet another special feature of the programme is that it has a provision of exit point for learners (after successful completion of the first year courses) in the form of P.G. Diploma in Counselling and Family Therapy (PGDCFT). The programme has theory, supervised practicum, internship, and dissertation as components.
	Bachelor’s degree in any subject from a recognized University. year of MSCCFT: Those who have successfully completed P G Diploma in Counselling and Family Therapy (PGDCFT) from IGNOU, are eligible for lateral entry to the second year of MSCCFT Program. They will be required to study only the second year courses. The minimum and maximum duration of the Programme for students joining through Lateral Entry shall be one year and two years respectively. To join through Lateral Entry, applicants may register on the online admission portal, select MSCCFT Programme, and follow the process. The option for Lateral Entry shall be given at the time of filling qualification details. . A scanned copy of the final marks sheet (Grade Card) of PGDCFT indicating successful completion of the Programme is required to be uploaded, along with other documents as required. After confirmation of admission through Lateral Entry, students are advised to apply for transfer of credits earned in PGDCFT to MSCCFT.
	Rs. 35,000/- for full programme to be paid year wise @Rs. 17,500/- per year plus Registration fee + Development fee as applicable.
