Review: ‘M.S. Dhoni: The Untold Story’ Recalls a Cricketer’s Ascent

You don’t have to understand cricket to enjoy a good cricket movie. “Lagaan” (2001), whose centerpiece was a rousing match of underdog (Indian) versus overdog (British colonials), got the heart pounding, even if you couldn’t follow all the ins and outs of the game. It was the rare Bollywood movie to reach across the aisle, as it were, attracting moviegoers beyond the faithful.

To warm to the biopic “M. S. Dhoni: The Untold Story,” you probably do have to be a cricket fan, and an indulgent one at that. Long (180 minutes) and languid, it takes you through the life of Mahendra Singh Dhoni , the unflappable captain of the Indian cricket team that won the 2011 World Cup.

Dhoni (Sushant Singh Rajput), as presented here, is a natural athlete — cricket wasn’t even his sport of choice as a boy — a nice guy and, in the end, something like a national hero. He meets setbacks with a pause (a kind of timeout) and a hard-to-read smile. Then he goes on. What makes him tick? That remains the untold story.

The movie, written and directed by Neeraj Pandey, is not hagiographic or overly obvious. Instead, it’s something of a quiet muddle, with too many squandered or dramatically blurry scenes. (Even the song montages are wasted; in one we see three versions of the same action, as if the editor ran out of ideas or footage.)

Mr. Pandey gets a bit of help from his star: Mr. Rajput lends Dhoni a poker-faced charisma and manages to convey some vague determination. But vague determination does not a hero make. I learned more about Mr. Dhoni — his enigmatic character and what marked him as a great captain — by reading about him after watching this movie than I did during three long hours.

“M.S. Dhoni: The Untold Story” is not rated.

Quick take: An authentic personal account of MS Dhoni's life

MS Dhoni: The Untold Story is a biopic that promises to give you never-heard-before details about an Indian sporting hero. The untold story of an Indian cricketing legend, under whom the Indian cricket team ascended from being good to great. The film reserves to contrasting halves for its storytelling effort. The first half establishes Dhoni as a character, a person and a boy who dreams big and hits bigger. The second half portrays him as an achiever and a lover. What the movie doesn't do is get intimate. At least not with the cricketing great. Mahendra Singh Dhoni's personal life has been depicted with detail, even his reported shy and aloof nature has been drawn out on the big screen to good effect. But the film does not touch upon a cricketer, his journey through dressing rooms and pitches and definitely not his conflicts or controversies. But the personal story of MS Dhoni, combined with director Neeraj Pandey's no nonsense approach to filmmaking does give you a decent watch. At 190 minutes (a staggering 3+ hours) the movie does take its time. But it never drops the ball. It always manages to draw you in and that's not such a bad feat.

The story kicks off with MS Dhoni's birth and goes all the way up to his winning six in the 2011 World Cup final. The first half is set in '80s and '90s Ranchi as a bright-eyed Dhoni discovers the trappings of cricket over football. His prodigious talent makes him an instant favourite in the local circles. As he grows up, so does the imminent wait for his big break. His lower middle-class family does everything in their power to make Dhoni an international cricketer. The chances don't come easy and the travails of a small town boy trying to live his dream make the first half of MS Dhoni authentic and genuinely fascinating. In reality, Dhoni is perceived as a simple and humble man, despite his herculean achievement and talents. The film's setup does justice to that fact. It gives you a genuine and insightful peek into the life of an aspiring cricketer. It makes its play on the fact that dreaming big is okay and that achieving dreams doesn't need miracles.

The second half though is an all new ball game. It just breezes through Dhoni's cricketing life keeping focus on his romances and humility rather than his involvement in the politics of cricket. There is a brief mention of his aggressive selection policies, but everything else from his professional life is just conveniently omitted. You never quite get intimate with India's most successful cricket captain. The focus is kept solely on a small town guy hitting it big on a global stage.

While MS Dhoni the film does not have the all-rounder ability of the person it's inspired from, it excels within its limitations. Director Neeraj Pandey crafts an engaging story with Dhoni's life. His efforts, especially with detailed production design and screenplay writing make even the 190 minutes seem balanced and nimble. Mention must also be made of the superb use of CGI in transferring Sushant Singh Rajput's face onto real-life footage of Dhoni. The visual effects quality on offer is top notch all through.

The biggest contributor to the impact of the film though is its lead Sushant Singh Rajput. His efforts are pitch perfect. With every passing minute all you feel is that you're actually watching Mahendra Singh Dhoni. Not some actor trying to be a cricketer and a confident but restrained man. He lives the part and makes Dhoni come alive. His cricketing shots and his body language are a masterclass. Sushant Singh Rajput's efforts alone make the movie worth a watch. Supporting performances by Anupam Kher, Bhumika Chawla, Rajesh Sharma and Kumud Mishra are perfectly adequate. The heroines Disha Patani and Kiara Advani only come up in the second half and both ladies have marginal roles. Disha Patani though, does stand out with her screen presence.

MS Dhoni: The Untold Story is a long film but it does well to both entertain and engage its audience despite its length. While it may not draw on major insights into Dhoni's cricketing career, it does make for a compelling story through his personal life. If you ever wanted to get up close and personal with MS Dhoni the person, this is the film to watch. Its a solid biopic, one that makes a true hero out of its subject.

MS Dhoni movie review

The challenge with films that tell real-life stories (of public figures) is that the audience already has a broader picture of the narrative. The director’s ability to pull it off then is in the telling. And there are few storytellers in Hindi cinema like Neeraj Pandey. His debut A Wednesday still stays his best work so far. But MS Dhoni – The Untold Story is an ambitious project, bigger than anything he’s helmed before.

MS Dhoni trails the journey of a young passionate boy from Ranchi with big dreams. He won’t settle for a meagre existence, like his father. The film interestingly captures his journey from the school kid who takes keen interest in sports (though not cricket) to a star cricketer loved by millions.

Recommended:  14 Rare, Lesser-Known Facts About Hindi Cinema

It’s an inspiring, moving tale. But what’s endearing about this journey is that it doesn’t change or lessen the person he is. The tremendously talented Sushant Singh Rajput in the role of M.S. Dhoni made sure he brought that out with his near-flawless performance.

The actor adds another great work to his remarkable filmography. He’s achieved much in a short span of time. He along with Neeraj Pandey majorly take home the credit for the success M.S. Dhoni – The Untold Story has turned out to be. The rest of the cast — Anupam Kher, Rajesh Sharma, Kumud Mishra, Bhumika Chawla, Zeeshan (who played young Dhoni) equally well supported the film.

Despite its three-hour runtime, MS Dhoni is a thoroughly engaging film. Watch it!

‘MS Dhoni – The Untold Story’ review: Some thrills and many slog overs

Neeraj Pandey’s seat-warmer of a biopic begins right at the beginning, in a hospital ward where Paan Singh Dhoni (Anupam Kher) is pacing the corridors.

Is it a boy or a girl? There is some confusion on that score. This sequence shows the first of many details about Mahendra Singh Dhoni’s early years that Pandey has dredged up in order to create a supposedly intimate study of one of cricket’s most charismatic figures. The 190-minute MS Dhoni – The Untold Story aims to be to cricket what Richard Attenborough’s Gandhi was to the historical biopic¸ but it is only as intimate as Dhoni and the filmmakers allowed it to be. The movie has been presented by the Rhiti group, which is run by Dhoni’s associate Arun Pandey, who is also one of the movie’s producers. Dhoni was reportedly paid vast sums to approve the project and allowing the considerable magnetism of his brand to rub off on the promotions.

We are shown a dutiful son, an attentive boyfriend and an entirely successful Indian team captain, whose level-headedness and fierce attacking style on the field wins Indian many crucial games, including the World Cup in 2011.

The movie is less a study of psyche than of personality. But within its hagiographic constraints, Pandey and lead actor Sushant Singh Rajput assert themselves admirably.

The most compelling portions that depict the trudge into the spotlight are all in the first 100-odd minutes, tracing Dhoni’s school-level breakthroughs with the guidance of his physical trainer (Rajesh Sharma), and encouragement from a supportive mother and sister and loyal friends. This propels him out of the small orbit of Ranchi into the stratosphere. Pandey perfectly captures the milieu of the small-town government housing complex and public school where Dhoni first displays his ability to smash the ball out of sight. State-subsidised facilities and opportunities are crucial to paving the path of this poster boy of individual achievement.

It is at the much-derided state-level selection camps that Dhoni catches the eye of a Coal India officer (Kumud Mishra) and later an Indian Railways official (Kali Prasad Mukherjee), and both encourage him by giving him employment and a wide berth to train himself into a run-generating machine.

This public sector undertaking baby finally takes his step towards adulthood – but at the interval point, he is still a long-haired Railway ticket collector waiting patiently for his big break. Pandey stretches out Dhoni’s formative years since the rest amounts to little more than an advertisement for Dhoni’s brilliance.

Clunkily packed into the rest of the movie are his relationships with two women (Disha Patani and Kiara Advani), his stewardship of the Indian cricket team, and his final match-winning performance at the World Cup in 2011. Pandey’s interest in Dhoni’s captaincy – a colourful and complex phase in his life – doesn’t extend beyond the winning knocks. For the real untold story about Dhoni’s controversial association with the Indian Premier League team Chennai Super Kings, for instance, we have to wait for an unauthorised biography from the likes of the Bhatt brothers.

ms dhoni movie review writing

Rajput works admirably within the limits and displays a dogged determination in wrapping his head around a character whose inner life remains out of bounds. By depicting Dhoni as a loner within a crowd rather than as a gregarious person, the actor perhaps inadvertently gets to the movie’s core.

When Dhoni has to cry from disappointment or heartbreak, he hides in a corner. When he exults, it is with the preternatural calm that we known Dhoni for. “He made leadership seem such light work that when he won the World T20 in 2007, he didn’t seem like Atlas, shouldering some great burden, he came across as a karmayogi in blue: his superpower was unflappability,” Mukul Kesavan wrote in his lovely tribute in 2015.

There is a test-match quality to the efforts taken to highlight every bump and curve on the way of the journey of a quick scorer. Yet, Dhoni remains an enigma. When and how did a young man from Ranchi grow out his hair, develop a love for motorcycles and evolve into the flamboyant genre-breaking cricketer with the gum-baring grin and the irresistible insouciance? Even Dhoni cannot figure that one out.

Film review: M.S. Dhoni: The Untold Story

Neeraj pandey's film tells us all about m.s. dhoni's struggle but has little insight into the man.

The downside of calling your film M.S. Dhoni: The Untold Story is that it’s easy for someone to point out after it’s done that a lot of the story is still untold. Let me be that person. This is a film for acolytes—people who want to see some kind of Superdhoni on their screens instead of the inscrutable iceberg who also happened to be one of the most significant cricketers of his generation.

Right from the start, this is a fairy tale disguised as an underdog story. This is not to say that the film isn’t faithful to the broader details of Dhoni’s life and career. It’s the treatment: the way things fall into place the way they rarely do in real life. When, as a young football enthusiast, he’s first handed wicket-keeping gloves, he drops the first few catches, then latches on to everything after that. Batting in the nets for the first time, he hits the first ball back over the bowler’s head. Throughout the film, there are only a few instances of Dhoni being dismissed; getting out, apparently, is for mortals.

Working with co-writer Dilip Jha, writer-director Neeraj Pandey uses the intermission to divide the Dhoni saga (from childhood till the 2011 World Cup) into two halves that could have been titled “persistence” and “payoff”. We’re shown how Dhoni’s hitting makes him a legend in his school, then in his hometown of Ranchi; how he misses his chance to play for the U-19 team; how he takes a job as a ticket collector in the hope of representing Railways in the Ranji Trophy. Played by Sushant Singh Rajput, the Dhoni we see on screen is always quietly confident, with the beatific smile of someone who knows things will work out. It’s as if the makers are afraid the audience might think less of the character if he betrayed a few nerves.

As Dhoni’s career seems to grind to a halt—like the trains he’s supposed to keep tabs on—the film stalls as well. But intermissions (and their effect on screenplays) are strange things. When the film resumes, Dhoni is quickly elevated to the India A team, then to the national side. Suddenly, we’re not only watching cricket, but watching Indians watch cricket, which is just as entertaining. We see his sceptical father, his supportive mother and sister, friends who’ve supported him since his schooldays, his first coach, yell at the TV, advise him on how to play, blame everyone but him for his dismissal. For once, instead of being told how special Dhoni is, we see his greatness reflected in their reactions.

Apart from a brilliantly cast Herry Tangiri as a young Yuvraj Singh, the film avoids having actors play the Indian team of the time. Instead, it inserts Rajput as Dhoni into actual match footage. It’s the film’s one big gamble. On the one hand, the makers no longer have to run the risk of looking silly while recreating moments that cricket fans know by heart. Yet, this approach also results in a lack of immediacy. We never feel the heat of the moment, never hear the crowd’s chants as Dhoni would have heard them. We’re removed from the action—twice removed, in fact.

The film runs through the major signposts in Dhoni’s career, but we never get a sense of how victory and defeat affected the man or altered his game or personality. The 2007 World Cup loss, after which his effigy was burnt outside his home in Ranchi, is widely regarded as a turning point in his life. Here, it just comes and goes—a little detail in the inexorable rise of Dhoni. Same with the 2007 World Twenty20 win, the origin of the Dhoni-as-leader legend. Other Bollywood sports films such as Bhaag Milkha Bhaag, Mary Kom, even Sultan, have been able to link events in their protagonists’ lives to their athletic performance. Yet, even that doesn’t happen here. We see the tragic end of one of his relationships. Did this make him a more guarded person? The film isn’t saying.

Anyone expecting M.S. Dhoni to be even mildly controversial probably doesn’t know that one of the producers is Arun Pandey, the cricketer’s friend and business partner. The closest the film comes to ruffling feathers is when Dhoni, speaking as captain to the selection committee, asks for three senior players be dropped from the ODI team. However, the players aren’t identified, which renders the conversation slightly ridiculous (people around me started muttering “Sehwag?”, “Laxman?”). From the start, it was always likely that the film would end up a hagiography. Yet, even a glorified account of Dhoni’s career might have found ways to say insightful, non-contentious things about cricket in this country. There are a couple of scattered moments that’ll appeal to fans—when he hits a match-winning six in a school game, Dhoni does the same bat twirl that followed his sealing of the 2011 World Cup—but, considering this is a three-hour film, there should have been more.

For someone who doesn’t look particularly like Dhoni, Rajput does a remarkable job breaking down and reassembling the visible aspects of the man: that quick, confident walk, the clipped nature of his speech in English, those strange strokes. If Rajput can’t give us an idea of what Dhoni is like beneath the surface, it’s probably because the film is unwilling to delve deeper. A series of talented bit players come and go, enlivening scenes that would have otherwise fallen flat: Rajesh Sharma as Dhoni’s first coach; Kumud Mishra as an early benefactor; Brijendra Kala and Mukesh Bhatt as comic relief commentators.

M.S. Dhoni is a blandly professional piece of work. This might be enough for fans of the man, but for anyone who’d hoped that the first ever film about a still-active Indian cricketer might have traces of insight or daring, this will likely be a disappointment. The film ends with the World Cup win and Rajput’s face, followed by the director credit—a moment greeted with indifference by the audience I saw the film with. Only when the real Dhoni appeared on screen for a few seconds was some applause heard. The message seemed clear: Dhoni still strikes a chord, M.S. Dhoni not so much.

M.S. Dhoni: The Untold Story Review

ms dhoni movie review writing

Star Cast:  Sushant Singh Rajput, Anupam Kher, Kiara Advani, Disha Patani, Rajesh Sharma

Director:  Neeraj Pandey

M.S. Dhoni: The Untold Story Poster

What’s Good: Sushant Singh Rajput ably pulls off his act as Mahendra Singh Dhoni. Neeraj Pandey promises to suck you into Dhoni’s world from the word go!

What’s Bad: A languid pace of the first half is a problem. Also, a 3 hour run-time could have been avoided by cutting down on the whole love angle.

Loo Break: Strictly interval!

Watch or Not?: Definitely watch! For all Dhoni fans, this film will be a treat.

Mahendra Singh Dhoni. Today he is a big name that will go down in history for he is the second Indian captain to have achieved the feat of winning the World Cup for Indian Cricket team.

The film which is a biopic on his life, traces back his journey from being a Ranchi boy who is strong willed on getting a chance to hold a bat instead of wicket-keeping to becoming one of India’s most successful captains ever.

Coming from a middle-class family, Dhoni is forced to take up a job in railway and put his Cricketing dream on the sideline. After working as a ticket checker, how Dhoni decides to risk it all and give a full shot towards playing Cricket full time is how the first half establishes. Further on, the second half tackles his love life, his captaincy and his rise in International cricket.

You have to watch it to believe it!

M.S. Dhoni: The Untold Story Review: Script Analysis

First of all, one has to appreciate the fact that Neeraj Pandey not being a fan of Dhoni, comes up with a genuine script regarding a personality.

The film takes off brilliantly with Dhoni making a striking decision during the World Cup final. Further, we are taken into a flashback where we meet Dhoni’s middle-class family. The effortless representation of the town’s flavor and the family life is easy to connect for everyone. Moments such as Dhoni’s dad forcing him to concentrate on studying over sport, the school coach and his wife buying fish in the market are cleverly written scenes.

Dialogues such as Dhoni confidently saying, “Hume Bhi Ek Chance Dijiye Na” or even “Naukri ke liye out thodi honge” are enough to show us how brilliantly, the writers have cracked the persona.

First half is slightly languid as it takes us through Mahi’s struggle from shuttling his studies and game to later choosing his game over a government job. Quite early on, the makers convince us that time and again, Dhoni has faced challenges in life and these tough times are reason behind his calm demeanor.

The interesting story takes a detour with his love life. At first, his love affair with Priyanka (Disha Patani) that comes to a sad end and further his meeting with Sakshi (Kiara Advani), his wife.

What many may complain is that Pandey chooses to stay away from the rumored problems between Dhoni and his senior colleagues and also Chennai Superkings and the whole spot fixing debacle.

Although I’d be in Pandey’s support for not getting there and showing any heroic image of the player. The film is a literal tell all and at no point event puts Dhoni on a pedestal as someone great.

M.S. Dhoni: The Untold Story Review: Star Performance

Sushant Singh Rajput gives his career best performance. He is not only convincing as the player with his body language but also with his amazing batting skills. The actor has clearly put in immense efforts for this role and I’d say they will definitely be paid off as he is set to get noticed for it.

Anupam Kher does a great job as Pan Singh Dhoni, the father. He emotes brilliantly in the scenes where he is full of pride for his son.

Bhumika Chawla plays Dhoni’s sister. She does a fairly good job and quite true to her simplistic character.

Kumud Mishra’s character is the one that holds importance in giving Dhoni the big break. He is as usual a perfect fit for his role.

Kiara Advani and Disha Patani look pretty and do what’s exactly expected from them.

Supporting actors like Rajesh Sharma and  give this film the required impact.

A special mention to Herry Tangri, who portrayed Yuvraj Singh in the film. Loved his bits thanks to the exact body language.

M.S. Dhoni: The Untold Story Review: Direction, Music

Neeraj Pandey is better known for his thriller films Baby, Special 26 etc. With Dhoni, Pandey makes his point as a director, the fact that he can pull off any film.

Pandey’s observation is surely brilliant and hence his lead actor gets the right under the skin of the character.

There are ample of scenes in the film that make you glee, be it the amazing  camaraderie between Sushant and his friends or his uncomfortable shoots for brand endorsements, the situational comical nature in them is a winner.

Music of the film has been widely appreciated and Besabriyaan surely sounds lovely in the theaters.

One of the major issue with the film is that it adds on to its run-time thanks to two love songs that could have been chopped out. We certainly wish the exotic honeymoon bit was left out of the film.

First half is long but is forms the base for the story. The second half is not gripping until the climax that takes us back to the World cup win.

Don’t be surprised if you find yourself cheering for all the footages of Indian tournaments, included for representation of the iconic moments in Dhoni’s life.

M.S. Dhoni: The Untold Story Review: The Last Word

M.S.Dhoni -The Untold Story is certainly a must-watch if you’re a fan of Indian cricket. Get to know the man behind the composed, confident, match-finisher of Indian cricket team. A 3.5/5 for this one.

Ms dhoni: the untold story review: journey of a small-town boy with big dreams.

MS Dhoni: The Untold Story

Director: Neeraj Pandey

Cast: Sushant Singh Rajput, Anupam Kher, Rajesh Sharma, Bhumika Chawla, Kumud Mishra, Disha Patani, Kiara Advani, Harry Tangri

MS Dhoni: The Untold Story is like a calendar of events from the life of India’s most successful cricket captain. This happened, that happened, this person helped him, that person encouraged him, he won this match, he fell in love with that girl. It’s really a hagiography. Never an insightful character study of a fascinating and largely impenetrable personality. If you’ve always wondered what lies beneath Dhoni’s calm veneer, or what’s going on in his head when the chips are down, be warned this film doesn’t answer those questions.

Which is not to say that it doesn’t work. Special 26 director Neeraj Pandey’s film is a rousing drama. Mostly because our protagonist’s journey from a small-town boy with big dreams to India’s star wicketkeeper-batsman is an inspiring one.

Pandey’s recreation of life in small-town India feels authentic, as do his characters. The early portions, in particular, are pure gold. A young Mahi is ‘discovered’ on the school football field by the cricket coach (Rajesh Sharma), who spots his potential. His father (Anupam Kher) insists that he focus on his studies, because a job will help him more than sports. Yet, he finds supporters in his mother and sister, and a bunch of loyal friends who believe in him. Before long, “Mahi maar raha hai" becomes a common refrain in his native Ranchi as he repeatedly whacks the ball out of sight, enthralling the growing crowd, and graduating to bigger things.

Sushant Singh Rajput is riveting as Dhoni; he’s got the body language and the cricket down pat. He makes the character’s frustration palpable, as you watch him trapped in a job as a railway ticket collector in Kharagpur. He makes you root for him as he pursues his goal single-mindedly, refusing to be swept away by small successes or discouraged by obstacles and failures.

It’s a terrific performance and the key to staying invested in the film even when it trudges down a frankly boring and predictable path in its second half. There are two romances and they come in quick succession (one with Disha Patani’s Priyanka, the other with Kiara Advani’s Saakshi), but these relationships offer little by way of a glimpse under Dhoni’s inscrutable surface. Neither do we get a sense of his strategy as Team India’s captain, or his relationships with the other players. It’s a shame Pandey never really addresses the controversies associated with Dhoni (barring a fleeting mention of two), or any of the brickbats that came his way, choosing instead to stick to a wholly reverential portrait.

Clocking in at nearly 3 hours and 10 minutes, the film is overlong and far from perfect. But climaxing with Dhoni’s incredible performance in the 2011 World Cup, Pandey pushes all the right buttons and leaves you, your chest swelling with pride.

So even though your head knows this is far from a no-holds-barred, warts-and-all biopic, your heart is happy to settle. Much of the credit for that must go to the finely executed cricket scenes, and to the film’s terrific ensemble of actors led by Sushant Singh Rajput who does some of his best work here.

I’m going with three out of five for MS Dhoni: The Untold Story.

Rating: 3 / 5

MS Dhoni The Untold Story: Almost everything you see in the film happened in Dhoni's life

Arun pandey, dhoni's friend and business partner, speaks about his passion project - the cricketer's biopic and the struggles of putting it together..

Listen to Story

A poster of MS Dhoni: The Untold Story

Arun Pandey, who has been long-time friend and business partner for MS Dhoni, is entreprising. You can here it in his voice, how dedicated he is to his passion project releasing on September 30. The project is none other than a Bollywood film based on the life of Dhoni, India's most successful captain. He emphasises more than a few times that the film was made purely to motivate youngsters in India and around the world.

4. When did Fox Star come into the picture?

So there was Dilip (Jha, the writer) who was writing about the various incidents in Dhoni's life. He used to go everyday, meet him and hear his stories and wrote that down. After Neeraj came on board, he started reviewing Dilip's work and he started asking questions and started piecing together a narrative for the film. After that it took close to 10 months to find the right studio who will help us tell the story like it should be told. Vijay Singhji (CEO, Foxstar) was a visionary enough to see the potential in the story and after that we began shooting.

5. A film like this can be risky, it requires scale to look convincing, were there dark days when you thought you couldn't pull this off?

I didn't doubt myself for a single second, since I decided to start work on making this biopic. The kind of love and affection MS gets from people all over India, never doubted the project for a single second. And Fox backed us completely, whatever was the requirement for the movie from my side, from Neeraj's side was fulfilled without question.

6. There is a tendency to sugar-coat biopics, has Neeraj Pandey attempted to take on the grey areas of Dhoni's life?

The definition of grey area tends to differ from person to person. And as far as clarifications related to conflict of interest has already been given, it's all there out in the open. There was no glamourisation of anything, in fact I can tell you positively that 98 percent of the what happens in the movie, is based on Dhoni's real life. Ask Neeraj, when he came on board and how difficult he found to find the grey areas in Dhoni's life. He was surprised that there was hardly any negativity in his life. He was appalled that he had to work so hard, talk to so many people, and he still couldn't find any grey areas in MS Dhoni's life.

7. When was the decision taken about dubbing the movie into Marathi, Tamil and Telugu?

It was always on the cards, even before the trailer was released. Dhoni has a pan-India appeal and we thought it would be a good idea to reach out to people in the other regions as well who will be equally eager to hear Dhoni's story. Even better if it is in their local language.

8. Raj Thackeray's MNS objected to the Marathi-dubbed version. Are you going to go ahead and release it in Marathi or is that on hold?

I have to speak to the people at Fox about that, I've not really been in the loop about that. I'll have to check up on it, it slipped my mind.

9. How comfortable was Dhoni opening up on the details of his love-stories? Which are two from the movie?

Whatever happened in real life, he sat down and spoke to Neeraj. And that's been included in the movie.

10. Has Dhoni seen the movie yet? What was his reaction?

Of course, he got emotional. It was a little awkward too for him, but he hardly ever expresses. He was a little overwhelmed seeing his life story adapted to the big screen. Published By: AtMigration Published On: Sep 11, 2016 --- ENDS ---

Thalapathy Vijay’s film GOAT arrives in theatres but fans feel MS Dhoni’s ‘greatest of all time’ cameo steals the show

Ms dhoni’s special appearance has emerged as the biggest highlight of thalapathy vijay’s film goat. check out fan reactions.

The cameo trend is huge in the Indian film industry at the moment, where actors who make a special appearance end up garnering more love than the lead stars. A good example of this was Vijay Deverakonda’s entry as Arjuna in Amitabh Bachchan, Prabhas and Deepika Padukone’s Kalki 2898 AD . Or Shah Rukh Khan’s epic cameo in Ranbir Kapoor and Alia Bhatt-starrer national award winning film Brahmāstra: Part One – Shiva (2022). Recently Katrina Kaif’s poster appearance in Vicky Kaushal’s film Bad Newz also received a lot of attention. Well, the same seems to have happened with Thalapathy Vijay’s Tamil film GOAT . (Also Read – Call Me Bae review: Ananya Panday is pitch-perfect in her unapologetically breezy, decidedly sanitised series debut )

MS Dhoni’s special appearance in Thalapathy Vijay’s film GOAT

The Greatest of All Time (GOAT) , directed by Venkat Prabhu, stars Vijay in dual roles as a Special Anti-Terrorism Squad officer and his son, alongside Prashanth, Prabhu Deva, Ajmal Ameer and Sneha. The science fiction action film arrived in theatres today and received mixed reviews, with some lauding Vijay’s swag and others calling it a disaster. But one segment that has been loved collectively by all netizens is a scene where cricket legend Mahendra Singh Dhoni plays for IPL. We are talking about his archival footage from the stadium used in GOAT .

Gushing over MS Dhoni and his mind-blowing appearance, one social media user gushed, “The way @vp_offl has brought in the #CSK flavor to the film, #Dhoni reference and especially the shot when #Thaladhoni looks at the sky is quite outstanding. Requires special mention and a lot of creativity has gone into it 💪”, whereas another netizen tweeted: “You know what, It is purely MS Dhoni who makes us sit in the climax of #GOAT not @actorvijay. Few glimpses of him making theaters electrifying! Especially this original cricket scene used in the movie was ultra goosebumps material 💥.” A third fan shared, “Masterstroke from #VenkatPrabhu to add #MSDhoni and #ChennaiSuperKings reference in the climax scenes of #TheGoat movie. Thala Dhoni and Thala Vijay are Greatest of all time!!”

Well, if you are a Dhoni fan, go book your tickets now!
